Speaker 1 (00:00):
Morning on the March, we bring you chamber Chat, brought
you by our good friends at Glenn Smiths Chevrolet GMC.
Will they get ready?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's time for Opahlikahs chamber Chat, presented every Monday morning
at this time by Glenn Smith Chevrolet GMC and opah Laika.
Get ready to smile.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Allie Row is the president of the Oplaka Chamber of
Commerce and she's live in the old Pete Clint studio.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Good morning, Ali, good morning, Glad.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
To be here, Glad to have you here. Howu's liberty?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
First, she is doing great. Tell you what you know.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
It's so hard getting a puppy and then forgetting when
you had an old man and then you get a puppy. Oh,
it's just pray for us, That's what I ask. We
just pray for patience. We pray for it every night
before dinner. She is a joy, but also a bit exhausting.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
I bet so, I bet after having one com for
so long and then all of a sudden, as you said,
having a man.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
And also check the freedom of like, oh, let's you know,
I'm gonna sit on my couch and enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Well, no, you don't do that with a puppy.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
No, that's not life, and so.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
You gotta have a full gamut. It's a baby, isn't it.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
It is very very very much just being a you know,
head on a swivel, trying to like we went for
a very long walk last night and then we came
back to the yard and I still threw the tennis
ball for another forty five minutes and she was still
not tired. And so but it is no. She is
another you know, which is the same kind of forest
(01:34):
ones yet but she happens to be a red one.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
So Forrest was black and she is red.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
So she looks a lot like a fox, which is
really cute. I mean, she's honestly absurdly cute. If you're
on Instagram, you can follow her at Chasing Lady Liberty
with a period between each word.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
But she's adorable. We love her.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I actually just checked my little We have a furboke camera.
One of the beautiful things of when you are well. Yeah,
I can watch my dog at any point in time.
She's in her kennel right now and she's just sleeping.
But because we bought so much stuff for our first dog,
we have all of it, like it had been in
just a tote and now I'm ploying. Now we've got
(02:19):
all we need, so that's nice. But things with Liberty
are great and we're really I'm looking forward to this
week because I asked specifically about Tuesday because it is
one of the biggest days of the year for the
Oplaca Chamber team. It is the golf tournament out at
Robert Trent Jones. We are set for a couple hundred
golfers having a great time and we'll take.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
That beautiful weather.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
I'll take it just right. Two flights, two flights to
a morning flight, afternoon flight. Super grateful for Glensmiths Chevrolet
GMC for being our presenting sponsor for many, many years
of our golf tournament. And of course this is our
annual member golf tournament, so only members of the Oplaga
Chamber can play. And I think we're gonna have close
(03:03):
to two hundred golfers.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Hear.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
This is a big deal for yall. Joe told me,
I knock it out.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
We we we have an awesome term. I will tell
you like it's It is in the top five best
days of the year for my whole team.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
They just love it.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
But a big part of that is because Joe and
will and the and the team at Robert trans Johnes
to do an amazing job.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Like we are.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
We do a lot of work in terms of we
sell the teams and we get people on holes and
we you know, we do fun things like the Heckel Hole.
So Crawford Willis Group is the sponsor of the Heckel Hole.
So essentially what that means is you walk up to
you know, Whole seven or whatever, and you get to
choose your level of heckl. Last year they didn't let
people choose. They just heckled full flood, full flood. But
(03:49):
this year you get to choose between a tame heckle
or a full fledged heckle.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
And if it's a full fledged heckle, they are going
before no. Well no, So the.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Crawford Rull is paid to be that whole sponsor, but
it's a part of it. And so you know, you
essentially you get to say whether or not you you know,
how thick is your skin? And they they will have
a good They can be brutal, they can be very brutal,
but it's also hilarious. What we found was that when
guys were getting heckled on the greens. They were actually
(04:26):
hitting better because you know, they were having to hyper focus.
And so we do a lot of fun stuff. Yeah,
we've got I think Texas Roadhouse out there serving maybe
Margarita's and Nacho Bar, and we've got lots of We
just we do an awesome job.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Our members are the absolute best. They have a great time.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
But Joe and will really take care of us and
make sure that really you know that they've got everything
delivered and signs up and all the stuff. So it's
not a lot of heavy lifting on my team, and
we love it.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
They're good people, as.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Good as they that he sure is.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Yeah, So big Chamber tournament tomorrow. It's already booked for
no reason to get in it. No, we'll be out
there all day.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Sorry guys, but if you want to be in it
next year, just know tickets or teams go on sale
in September, so you don't want to miss out there.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
You go, all right? What else we got on Chamber chat, miss.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Ally, you know, we have a couple ribbon cuttings.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
So this Friday, the Curtis House Greenhouse Project, which is
our twenty under forty class. They have a ribbon cutting
scheduled for Friday at eleven am out of the Curtis House.
And when I tell you that this twenty under forty class,
so this is a leadership class that we have twenty
young professionals who are under the age of forty that
live in Oblika that go through it every year.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
And in addition to learning all.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
About Oblaika, they also do a service project. And we
thought with certainty that there was no way last year's
project was going to get topped. Last year twenty under
forty's class raised i think over twenty thousand dollars for
the Oblaca Learning Center and it's an outdoor classroom for them,
and it was just phenomenal. Well, I guess we just
(06:03):
have a lot of competitive people in this year's class,
because they were like, well, you know, let us prove
that we can do even better.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
And so they have built an.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Entire greenhouse kind of an educational gardening shop out at
the Curtis House and so it's incredible. They just keep
raising money, they just keep doing work for it. So
I'm very very impressed and ready for to celebrate not
only their ribbon cutting, but they're soon to graduate as well.
So they'll be graduating and we are currently accepting applications
(06:33):
for the next class of twenty under forty.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
So if there are any.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Businesses in the area who have some folks who live
in Opalikeen are under the age of forty who you know,
maybe they're just trying to figure out how to get
involved or maybe just looking for that next level of
leadership development.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Twenty hundred forty is a great option for them.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
There you go, hand the rester with op Black Chamber cup.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
That's right, oh black Chamber dot com.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
All right.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
So we also just looking ahead to next week.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
We've got a couple of great ribbon cuttings that I
want to get on everybody's radar as well. Our friends
at auburnople Like a Tourism have moved into a new office.
So May fourteenth, at four pm on Gay Street, auburnople
Like a Tourism will be celebrating their new location. Really
encourage anybody to come check it out. They've decided to
put showcase local artists on the world on the walls
(07:18):
and you can actually go buy a painting in their location.
So I'm excited to go check that out. And then
on the fifteenth bou Lingerie is a French bakery that
is already in downtown Auburn and is now opening up
a second location in downtown Opelika. And on the fifteenth
at ten am, is there ribbon cutting and then glazed
(07:38):
Paint your Own Pottery is a really cool pottery shop
on Opelika Road near Deank and Volley, Pickleball and Chickens
Our chick and they are celebrating with a grand opening
and ribbon cutting on the sixteenth at ten am. So fourteen, fifteenth, sixteenth,
We're going to keep you busy next week.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
There you go in a big golf term. Next me tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.
What's usually the winner? Do you remember?
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Under no Eric, Canada usually win. Yeah. We do another
fun thing called Flip the Bird, which is just a
fun fundraiser option for the chamber. So essentially, any player
can flip the bird on a fellow player and add
a stroke to their team for twenty bucks. And so
(08:26):
you know Eric, Eric likes to win, he's competitive.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
So he flips the bird on.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Well, he doesn't like to flip the bird on other
people because he doesn't want to draw attention to himself.
But we do offer people the option of protecting themselves.
So we don't tell anybody whether or not a team
has protection. So you might flip the bird on d
Mark and he might have already about protection.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
So really that's just twenty bucks.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
In the in the coffer for the chamber to help
support us from a fund. Second protection, Yeah, well it's
more than twenty bucks, but.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yes, protection, either protection or whatever whatever.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Do you buy the protection and then everybody else slips
the bird.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
And so if I about protection, it don't matter.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
But that's the fun part is that you might get
like six strokes added to your score.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
And then nobody knows that you've got protection. I'm sure
it's pretty tir a lot. Yeah, we typically it's a
it's a tight race.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
But we did have the winner decided i think two
years ago by flipping the bird because they didn't protect
themselves and they had two or three strokes outed to them.
So because you can also look and you can see
who's got the handicap, and it's fun, it's it's all
in good fun and it's really just a fantastic fundraiser
for the up like a chamber that allows us to
do the amazing work that we do as the Champions
(09:43):
for Business.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
It's I think it's I think it's real good.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
We have a good time.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
I know you do all right. Anything else you'd like
to say.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Before we go, I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
I think we're well doing good. I think I'm I'm
sending some friends in my place. Next week, we got
to talk about Joel Alvarados. So you know Joel, but
he's going to bring Joshua Saheb with him, who is
a instructor at Auburn University of Entrepreneurship, and he is
going to be the instructor for our Opelaca Business boot
Camp that's starting later this month. That will go for
(10:15):
six weeks from I think it's May twenty to June
twenty fourth on Tuesday nights at the Oplaga Chamber. So
we're doing a deep dive training seminar for all things
kind of getting your business started. And so they're going
to come in and talk a little bit more about
the boot camp next week.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Okay, and doctor Cary Hunt said about a year and
a half, maybe you would calm.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Down, thanks doctor Hunt.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
We did take her in on Friday and he was like,
whoa she grew and I.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Was like, yeah, she did.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And trust me. He takes care of Kujo, so I
trust him.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
I know, we love Gary and Angela.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Jay they are they are and he's been good to me.
But go ahead, I don't want to run her up
to you.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
No.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
We were super grateful for doctor and I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
I've got a year and a half in me.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
You got a year and a half, he said.
Speaker 3 (11:06):

Speaker 1 (11:07):

Speaker 2 (11:12):
