Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are alive on the mark.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Good morning, how are you'll find?
Speaker 1 (00:04):
I'm sorry the distinguished gentleman from not to Suggle not
to sug Counselman Lank for knocked you off the radio.
So that ain't good getting on me about my New
York Football Giants and then saying the HSA is gonna
move their headquarters to Oxford. Don't make a comment about that.
Good morning, Coach Moore.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
You all right, buddy, I'm good, I'm good. How are
y'all this morning? Good good?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Thank you for calling and I appreciate you accepting the
callback when we didn't answer, and we didn't answer, Coach,
I know it was a tough night for you, but
but and I know you've made that clear that there
are more no moral victories at OPLAKA. And you expected
to win the football game, and I applaud you for that.
I really enjoyed the game, coach from a spectator, And
and I know you wanted to win that football game.
(00:51):
But I hated for you and your guys, but you
played so hard, Coach, your team did.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, for for for the most part,
we have some guys that you know, have to raise
their level as far as effort. But you know, I
was pleased with you know, our I guess, you know,
mental toughness and resilience and all that kind of stuff.
But it takes so much more than just playing hard
at this level, Like you got to play well, and
(01:17):
we didn't do that, and uh, you know that's really
all phases. I mean we uh special teams. I didn't
think had a great night. We did not return the
ball very well on kick off return. We started inside
the twenty. Uh, and that can't happen. Johnny Sussina, our
kicker kind of had a little hit pointer pre game
off a kick. So Ree Beasley was our kicker, so
(01:39):
we had a little bit of a deal there. Weren't
able to kick at the end zone. Reese had a
great night, but but again it was a little bit
of a to the side of our game playing there.
And then I thought, you know, defensively, we gave up
too many big plays. I mean we talked about that
about you know, the post route that they get two
(01:59):
of them for touchdown, and so I was I was
not pleased at all with that. I did, you know again,
you know, going in the fourth quarter, drive it down
and score on a short field after a great punt
by Zion, you know, was was huge, But then they
respond with a seventy seven yard pass down to our
three yard line. That just can't happen. And so, you know,
(02:21):
again my my message to the kids was, yeah, I mean,
it's it's great to play hard and you know, be
in ball games and have a chance to win, but
we don't have to do that here. You know, I
just to be honest with our community. I'm frustrated with
the fact that I haven't taught them to win yet
and and it's going to happen. But I thought we
had a great opportunity to win the game Friday night,
(02:42):
and and everything that happened was our fault. I mean
every you know, the two throws that they had at
the end. Uh you know, we were about two inches
from tipping that ball away on the big post that
they threw, but we got to make that play. And
uh so, you know, I and up until that point, honestly,
in the third quarter, we had played really well defensively.
We had a few three and outs there in a
(03:03):
row where we were winning the field position battle, and eventually,
like I said, pushed ahead. But ultimately it's my job
to get us to where we can finish, and that's
what we're working on right now.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
We're talking with OPLAKA football coach Brian Moore. After the
twenty eight twenty one lost to Auburn Friday night up
Central Stadium, coach Brody Jones made a heck of a
catch down there in the m zone. I ain't gonna
lie about it.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
What a play man, what to play? Just you know,
really I thought Kobe should have run the ball in. Uh,
first off, that coach, you know, I thought he was
Then he threw the ball. I did too, and uh,
you know I'm yelling run it. You know, of course
he can't hear a word I'm saying, but you know
I'm yelling run it. And then all of a sudden
he puts one up. Now, Brody went and just wheeled
(03:47):
his way to get that football, then went on and
brought it down and uh, just an incredible play. And
then Brody had another play where we ran a little
reverse and we're gonna throw it back to the quarterback
and had him down the sideline and mishandled it, which
is always a risk with plays like that, and uh,
and Brody just went into the pilot came out with
(04:07):
that football. I don't know how that coach, I don't know.
You know, he's about the only kid that could do
something like that. But Brody is a kid that he's
gonna end up being one of my all time favorites
just because of the way that he plays and uh,
his toughness and the way that he blocks and uh,
he just is a special player. And I'll be honest
(04:28):
with you guys, we need more guys that are playing
and at the level of buying of Brodie gong that
that's that's what it looks like. He is a true
dog and from every you know, every measure, and we've
got to figure out how to get more kids on
that level. So and we have some, but Brody is
a is a winner, and that game meant the world
(04:48):
to him, and probably more than the game, I thought
was his response Saturday, he texted me and was it
was just a great you know, we had a pretty
you know, I was pretty short on the radio after
the game because I wanted to get to my kids
and because I sent him in the locker room and
I was the only coach allowed in that locker room
with them, and I thought it was important to get
(05:09):
to my kids during that raw of motion and to
talk about you know, I just walked in and said,
I don't know what you're crying about. I mean, you know,
this is our fault. Like you should be angry, you
should be frustrated with us, And like I said, that
starts with me. And Brody just text me Saturday and said,
you know, we just appreciate, you know, the response from you,
(05:30):
and and I just I think the world of him
and the job he's doing. And like I said, we
just got to get more kids on his level. And
I think they're understanding what that takes and what that
looks like based on his leadership. And there you go.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
When that ball hit the ground, Coach, I was right
there on the sideline that Auburn player had it first.
And he goes in there, and Mayor Anders and I
were sitting there. I said, Albn got the ball. And
when he came out with that football, we looked at
each other like, how in the but he got in there. Coach,
I have to give him all that credit. Now, you're
right about that. He would not be He was like,
(06:04):
this is my football. So and that was a that
was a big play. Now he had to. I mean
that that was a big play. So, you know, take
away from the game, coach, you got a lot of
football left.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Well. I mean, I think, first off, Auburn is everything
that I thought they would be. So first that, I
think Auburn is a This is a not a good team.
It's a great football team. Coach Ethurch has a great team.
And he's got a great quarterback. He's got a great
running back, he's got really really fast receivers. He's got
everything to be a you know, to be another state
(06:38):
champion contender. I mean, I think he's a top two
or three football team in the state. But I think
we are too. And I think that my takeaway again,
you can take that as a moral victory if you
want to, but the truth is is that you know, we,
in my opinion, should have won the football game and
finished against a team that's that that good on the road,
(06:59):
and so you know that it's just a play off
and we've got to figure out how to finish that
and and we're going to and I think and I'm
and I stand by what I said post game too.
I think there's going to be an opportunity for us
to play Auburn again. I really do. I think that,
you know, for us, that's that's what we hope to
get to. Now. The likelihood of that being at Auburn
(07:20):
again is pretty high, you know. And again, yeah, of
course there's a lot of football left and all that,
but we we we hope that we have an opportunity,
you know, to rise to that occasion and and and
kind of run that game back and and and you know,
try again. And I think that you know, for us,
you know, we're we're as good as anybody. I believe that,
(07:41):
you know. There were a couple of things that we
would do a little bit differently, specifically in the special
teams game, but I was really encouraged by the fight
of our team. I'm so thankful for our community. It
was an incredible spot, you know, by our people, by
our parents and and for them to uplift our kids
and to know that we just went to war and
(08:02):
got to learn to finish that deal. So I just
appreciate the community. But again, as I said, it starts
with me. My job is I was brought here to
win these games, and that's what we plan to do.
We plan to make it right. I know, if if
Sunday is any indicator. When we came up and lifted
and watched film, our kids were as hungry and driven
as ever, maybe more. And how you respond to a
(08:23):
game like that can define you first as a program,
but also it's just people in general. You know when
you get when you when when you don't have the
result that you want. So I'm encouraged. I really am,
probably more so than even before the game, which is
kind of weird to say, but that the fact that
we're on that level, uh, and the fact that we
went over there against like I said, one of the
(08:44):
probably in my head coaching career, that's the best team
I've ever played.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
And and I think that this is the best football
team I've ever coached as well. So I'm excited to
see where we go from here. We need to respond
well this week and get back on the winning track. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
There you go, Brian More with said football coaching up
likealking about Friday Night's game as a as a guy
who's been around his whole life, went's goood o plaka
and have the living that I do to make a living.
I was proud of the way the two programs responded
as far as acting right, coach, and that's important. We
talk about that. But your football team and Coach Ether's
football team was classy on the football field. There was
(09:19):
one little incident at the end, one little, one little segment, Coach.
I was proud of that too, and you know that's important.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Well, you know, we we've seen some some bad moments
in that game. You know, been around long enough to
have seen some things that are that are tough, you know,
to where you know we were. It was an embarrassing moment.
But you know, for us, we were really disciplined. You know,
we have very few penalties in the game. We didn't
(09:45):
have any sort of personal foul or anything like that.
I was really really pleased with that, you know, And
so yes, I am proud of our kids for that.
That's a huge step for us. You know, something that
when the emotions are really high in a game like that,
you know, you worry about something like that. And I
was proud of the way that we played if the
game was played clean. And you know, like I've said before,
(10:06):
I think a lot of coach Ethards and the job
he's doing. I think a lot of their players and
I think they feel the same way about us. So, yeah,
I was proud of that. But again, the discipline piece
has got to be better as far as you know,
not losing guys in coverage and and like I mentioned
several times, finishing the ball game its end.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, good point, coach. Moving forward, Okay, I you know.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Heck, there's a lot of football, as we know, left
to play.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
You got to get you guys back down on the ground,
moving forward, get past that tough game. How do you
do that? And talk a little bit about moving forward
this week.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Playing Jag Well, first off, we started before the game,
you know, really all week last week about you know,
winning and losing and what that meant to the season.
You know, I've seen you know, like even if you
win that game Friday, it can't be the super Bowl,
you know, because you have you have seven football games
left including I don't know how many how many I
(10:59):
think y'all about it on the radio, Like five of
our teams are in the top ten in our region. Like,
so you don't get to like think that, well we've
arrived because we won the game or or whatever. You
couldn't have something like that even if we were successful.
So we talked a lot about that leading up to
that game, and so I think our kids handled that great.
You know, as far as knowing that, hey, we've got
(11:21):
to back to back region games and we don't have
a buy until the last week. So you know, we've
got a lot of football left to play right now,
and that will make or break our season. And you know,
I know it's cliche, but really and truly, all the
goals that we've set are still in front of us.
There's there's, like I said, what six region games left.
You've got to play really really well in this region
(11:43):
against again top five and top ten teams almost every week,
and so we'll I think we're gonna respond really good.
I'm encouraged bond on what I've seen so far.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
There you go, coach any JV this week, ninth grade out.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Play double edit tonight against all at home. Our ninth
grade will start at five and our JV will start
at six point thirty. I've mentioned before, you know, we
were really hard on you know, the the what the
JV and ninth grade games look like. You know, like
we you know, Eddie is going to be our PA guy,
and you know we've got the Lions clubs doing our
(12:18):
concessions and we wanted to look as close to a
Friday night as we can because, like you said last week, Mark,
those kids deserve it, you know, to have a game
day atmosphere like that, and we expect to play well. Uh.
We did not play very well against Central last week
in ninth grade. We were very frustrated by the outcome.
We had a really good week. I'm I'm really involved
with the ninth grade as well, uh and obviously the
(12:41):
JV and so we expect to play to play well tonight,
so uh, you know, because that game matters, and and
finding ways to win in our developmental phases, just like
we did last week. Seven of the eighth grade beat
Ben Russell handily, both of them, and uh, you know
that those games matter too. So we're excited about tonight
and expect to get back on.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
When when track All right, good deal and if you
get Thursday, we got your lunch. Talk about it, coach
at First Baptist open to the public.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, I hope, I hope people will come. We had
over sixty people there this past week and we hope
to have one hundred this week. We will talk about
the Auburn game. We'll show the highlights and low lights.
You know, we we're gonna show the reality and of
the game and kind of show the things that you know,
we didn't do well and you know, and hope to
(13:28):
fix those. So I hope people will come out this week.
We're gonna bring Calvin Hugley with us to the Quarterback
Club and his coach, Ben Landers. They're gonna come with me.
And Calvin is off to an incredible start. Seventy five
yards Russian.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
He is just on fire right now. And to me,
he's running like a Power five running back right now.
And so you know, we'll get him and he'll the
people will get to meet Calvin and he'll talk about
some of the things that he sees and clips and
so just coming from a different angle each week. So
we're excited to Thursday, and I hope people will come out.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
You know what, I'm in sitting here talking about the
game and all your ability to run the football is
onureal Friday night, I even talked about that, Wow, coach,
that's that was?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
That was?
Speaker 1 (14:09):
That was pretty nifty, my man, pretty nifty.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Well, yeah, I thought our offensive line played well. There's
still some things out there they didn't do better, but
you know, we were pleasing the way we ran it.
Could we continue to need to open it up more
with Kolbe, but we were pleased with get. We were
two hundred and seventy plus Russian UH and our big fullback,
Blake Johnson ran it well as well, so calvan An
Blake had big nights, so you know those guys will
(14:33):
be a one two punch. And Jordan Wait's in there
as well, so we were encouraged by them.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Good deal, Madison, john Mark and Georgia. Seeing you, coach,
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Buddy, sir. Good to see your family.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
All right, buddy, have a great week, coach.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Thank you, Thank you guys,
