Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh yeah, and Oval three. The head coach of the
OAPLAC of Bulldogs, Brian Moore, is live. Good morning, coach, more.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good morning, d Mark. How are y'all this morning?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
We're good, man, We're good. How are you good?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good? About to brave this rain here in about thirty minutes,
so we're practicing this morning. Uh. You know, it would
be a good opportunity for us to kind of go
through a little wet mall here.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Okay, gonna get into rain this week. Okay, I like
that you got the open week, but as business as
usuals for them dogs.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Huh yeah, definitely early in the week. You know, we'll
practice today and tomorrow and we'll have actually got our
youth league wreck Ball championships tonight at Bulldog Stadium. Uh,
so we'll be we'll practice this morning and then our
JV guys will scrimmage after school, uh and then our

(00:49):
our youth group come in five point thirty and we
finish up those leagues. That was our agreement with Parks
and wreck is that we would play our games at
Floriad Park and then got to the championship, we played
in Bodog Stadium, So pake two of them Saturday morning
and played two more this seed and so we're excited
about that. And then we'll practice tomorrow after school and

(01:10):
and then we'll have a team event Wednesday and be
off Thursday and Friday. And boy do we need it,
you know, to be able to heal and get ourselves
healthy for the playoffs. Yeah. I like that. I like that.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
I plucked Coach brown Moore with us talking about his
dog was this week making the playoffs last week with
the win over Carver, congratulations coach.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
That was big. I appreciate the kids played well, played,
you know, wasn't perfect by any means, and you know,
injuries got us again, you know, with Cooper went down
in the first quarter. He'll be back for the playoffs.
But Fuller stepped in and did a great job. And
our defense played, like I mean, just played extremely well.

(01:48):
Coach Massey's group, you know, had it going on. Brandon
Howard made a huge air septain. We were down fourteen seven.
He intercepted the past ran it back for a touchdown
to tie it up, and then we actually got a
we they thanked a punt in their own territory and
we got him on the ground, which was a tall
task because their quarterback was the punter and so he's
he's an elite player. I think everybody in Goldagh stadiums

(02:10):
all that Friday night and for us to get him
on the ground and then Reese knocked through a big
field goal put us up seventeen fourteen, and we got
another four and out stop and Blake Johnson kind of
put the finishing touches on it full back dive and
scored and finished made it twenty four to fourteen. So
I just just really proud for our seniors, you know,

(02:32):
and you know, every time, you know, consecutively you make
these playoffs and then you know, hopefully make a little
run in the playoffs. I mean, it just breeds whinning,
you know, it breeds buy in and you know, our
kids believe in what we're doing, and you know, and
for us to win a game after two losses, it
was really I mean especial three with the schedule we play,

(02:55):
was really special. And just proud for our players.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, he did did a good coach, had a lot
of players step up for you. Sounds like A J.
Johnson really cared the ball the other night for a
good bit.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Ran ran well, you know, played well and Jordan Waite's
took a bunch of snaps. Actually, uh, our situation, you know,
kind of scenario, you know, and so so c j
and Jordan played played really well. And you know, like
I said, Blake, Blake showed up again, had two touchdowns
and so, you know, for us just been kind of

(03:27):
the recipe. It's not pretty by any means. You know,
obviously we'd like to be able to throw the ball
around the Bennett Andre and Jay wa Wash and those guys,
but we, uh, you know, we've got to do what
we got to do to win. And I'll tell you this,
for for those receivers to continue to block and you know,
and and when being selfless, you know, not having the
chances you know that we kind of thought we would

(03:49):
early in the year. But protecting our defense and you know,
just running the football and controlling the clock is kind
of our recipe. And uh it was against Pike Road,
it was against Othan and then now you know obviously
against Carver as well. So uh, you know, just appreciate
those guys and proud of their you know, mentality and
selflessness just to find ways to win and make it

(04:09):
about opal like over me Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yeah, you're into playoffs that you play, you at trust well,
so take us through what you do the next two weeks.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah. So this week, you know, like I mentioned, we'll
practice twice, you know, and we'll focus, we'll have we'll
clean up some things that we didn't do well, like
again that starts this morning. But but you know, I
had to go back and reevaluate kind of the bye week.
You know, I've done this, you know, eleven times now
as a head coach. So going and looking at you know,
what we've done over the years, We've always practiced twice.

(04:40):
With younger teams, we've had a third practice and especially
when we're healthy. But you know, for the most part,
we've practiced twice and and uh, you know, I went
back and evaluated last year's by week, and we were
really healthy going into that week, so we were able
to get after it a little bit more. But it's
just the situation right now, Dean Mark, where I mean,
the most important thing is to get the horses to

(05:00):
the race, you know, and and we've got to take
care of each other. We we need it's got to
be a great balance of competition. But knowing how to
practice and you know, stay off the ground and prevent
those injuries from happening. Because to go and to go
to Birmingham, as we all know, and and compete with
people like you know, Hoover and Trustful and obviously Thompson

(05:21):
and those guys, you know, you're gonna have to be
healthy and uh so you know that's kind of been
our focus and also on our young kids, you know.
For me, I mean, obviously going to the playoffs is
what we do at Opalaka, So it was really important
to continue the tradition that we you know, all the
way back to all those great coaches you know, and
uh but also to get extra practices. I mean, I

(05:42):
think that's something that people you know have to understand
is you know, not only do you get to go
and compete, you know, but you also are able to
you know, we pulled up like eighteen ninth graders that
are now practicing with the varsity now that their season's over,
and so for them to get extra weeks of practice
to watch how we operate. I would I would say
it's a lot like de mark up full practice you

(06:04):
know for for college time. Yeah, it's what it feels
like to me, you know, And Obviously we're not gonna
go celebrate and go you know, to six Flags or anything.
Right here. We're gonna go with plan to win the game.
But but we but also it gives us an opportunity
to scrimmage those guys and start to evaluate what our
depth looks like for the next year, and started to

(06:24):
give those guys a lot of reps you know, in
different spots. So it's really big, and it's on so
many levels, just big for the morale of our school.
We've talked about on your show before. You know, the
the mentality of your school, in my opinion, is set
by your false sports. Uh. You know, volleyball just went
and played in regionals. Our football team went to see them,

(06:45):
and you know, coach Roberts and the job she's done.
Just really proud of our girls. And you know, when
I got back De Mark, we hadn't wanted a whole lot,
you know, we we not a lot of playoffs, firsts
or any of that kind of stuff. And I just
that's not the way we left, you know. And in
twenty fifteen, I just we were winning you know, region championships,
area championships and everything, and and we've got to get

(07:08):
back to that, and that starts with again our fall
sports and and and our our kids. You know, understanding
that we expect to be in the postseason every year
in every sport. And we have an athletic director that
knows that, and that's Craig Montaile's expectation. We've got a
principal to understand that, and Kelly Fisheer and and and
you know, obviously doctor Davis now are superintendent, you know,

(07:29):
coming from a place like muscle shows, I understand that
as well. So we've got to we've got to do
a great job of continuing this success. But I'm really
proud of the start for our school year. Uh. And
we just hope to play you know, all the way
through December.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
There you go, all right, Uh, it all to be interesting.
Coach Andrew was how do you how do you how
you you know, I know we talked about how you
shaping up?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Well, you know, we Bennett was banged up again. It's
just been a whole career of that for Benning Young,
but he's going to be fine and actually finished the game.
We mentioned on the show Friday that you know, we
had some guys coming back and that was really good
to see, you know, guys like Josh Davis and obviously
the Keetrick Berts who made some major tackles in the game,

(08:15):
some one on one tackles that you know, frankly, we
hadn't had another guy that has done that. We've got
some guys you know, obviously step up, but he's a
difference maker in there at linebacker, and Josh Davis and
Carson Riddle and a lot of our guys that you
know gave us some veteran present. We're back, and we
obviously played a lot better defensively. I mean to hold

(08:36):
them to fourteen points. You know, they scored on their
first drive as well, from like seventy yards and uh,
for our defense to rise up and do that was
really special. And again a lot of it had to
do with, you know, with those guys returning. So we're
pretty healthy, you know, and and hopefully in two weeks
we'll we'll be full go. And you know, as long
as the five week and then the week of practice

(08:58):
next week goes well, we will have have all hands
on deck.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Okay, good deal anything else, coach, I just.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Appreciate you guys, you know, excited that we're continuing to
talk football and again. The bye week could not come
at a better time, I can tell you that, so
we're excited about that as well.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Enjoy your week, coach. Congrats, you got them into the playoffs.
That's what you're supposed to do. You promised us that
they'd played better Friday. You told us that a week
ago on the road, and you were right. So good job.
Keep up with good work, my friend.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Thank you, appreciate it. Thanks Deve mar I appreciate you, guys.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yes, Sir, Ryan Moore, the head coach of the OAP
like a dog this morning.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
