Speaker 1 (00:00):
Black ladies and gentlemen all day long, all day we
do as we do Monday, but today is Tuesday because
we were off yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's time now for Opa Lanka's Chamber Chat, presented every
Monday morning at this time by Glenn Smith Chevrolet GMC
and Opah Laika. Get Ready to smile And.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
That's exactly where I get ready to smile ally rap
with the Oplaco Chamber of Commerce President CEO. This segment
brought to you by Glenn Smith Chevrolet GMC, where they
do make you smile. Good morning, Alli, I was everything
Everything's great.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
We are, everything is great, we are you know, this
is a week where we're kind of doing a bit
of a strategic reset planning week, so the team will
be in the office getting a lot of work done
and planning for the next quarter. And but we're very
much looking forward to the rest of this month. Our
Reach campaign kicks off this year or this month, and

(00:51):
so for those that don't know what the Reach campaign is,
it is our once a year volunteer led campaign that
is genuinely the most exciting, energetic, engaged eight weeks of
the year for the oplack A Chamber. And so we've
got Shaye Knight as our chair of the campaign, and
he has recruited just some incredible vice chairs including Eric Canada,

(01:17):
Kate Larkin, Eddie Smith, todd Sjacket and Carlton Hunley. And
so those five vice chairs have also done an incredible
job recruiting some amazing team captains and now those team
captains are in the process of recruiting volunteers. And so
what that means for the business community, if you are
listening over the next couple of weeks, you will start
to hear more about the Reach campaign and you will

(01:40):
start to get contacted to find ways that you can
really market to your target audience and your customers through
the Chamber programming.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
There you go and you said, I believe this is
an important party the revenue for the Chamber, right it is.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
It's actually the most important part of our revenue stream
because you know, the way that we've been able to
grow and do the more things that we're doing is
because over the last four years we have grown this
campaign from I mean one hundred and eighty five thousand
dollars to four hundred and twelve thousand dollars and all
of that comes into our operating budget, but also goes

(02:16):
straight back into the events that we put on when
we purchase items from members or have vendors or anything
like that. It's really you know, we aren't a money
making machine at the Chamber. We are very much a
break even philosophy. So I think our budget this year
is scheduled to beat budget by one hundred and sixty
eight dollars. Like that's the net positive that we're supposed

(02:37):
to end this year. And so you know, all that
money that comes in for the Reach campaign really is
all about helping promote our businesses and pouring that right
back into the community.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
There you got a block of Chamber Commerce.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
National Champion, Chamber of Commerce National Champion. It's in case
you need a reminder there. This week, well, this week
we are very much in the clear. Not a lot happening.
Next week we've got a few OYP events there. On
Tuesday night there's an OYP event at the Marriott at
Grand National. They're doing a pickaball night for our Sports
and Recreation crew. And then on Thursday they are doing

(03:11):
a community service crew and they're going out to the
Creek Line Trail. So next week's all about OYP and
then really I want to look ahead though to at
the end of the month, September twenty sixth is our
Valor Awards and so yeah, so the Valor Awards are
our annual public Safety awards, and so at this event,

(03:33):
it is a black tie type gala, so people can come.
We say dress your best. So if you like to
dress up, then great, throw on a gown or throw
on a suit. But if you don't, that's okay. We'll
have all all sorts at the event. We're hosting it
at the Southerly this year, which we're very excited about.
And so our Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of

(03:55):
the Year are ems, our emt Our Dispatcher of the Year,
Sheriff's Department of the Deputy of the Year, all of
those awards are passed out at this event. But we
actually kick it off with a keynote speaker and I
am so excited to share that we will be hosting
Noah Galloway and he is you might recognize the name.

(04:16):
He is a beloved Dancing with the Stars alum and
he is from Birmingham and he's an amputee from Birmingham,
and so he was wounded in the War in Iraq
and just has an incredible story of perseverance and we
cannot wait to welcome him to Opalaika.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
There you go, that's an interesting story. I was thinking
I did hear his name in reference to that? So
always a lot going on.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yes, I was a big fan of him when he
was on Dancing with the Stars and of course that's
how I got to know his story. But then to
find out that he lives in Birmingham or outside of Birmingham.
Him and Todd have the same doctor at the VA.
So it's just kind of crazy, crazy.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Small world.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
But we're thrilled to welcome him. And if anyone is
interested in either supporting this cause or attending and actually
hearing Noah speak, tickets are on sale now on our website.
This event is free to first responders, so any of
them can log on and register now and they get
to attend free of charge thanks to our incredible sponsors.

(05:15):
And then, and I think our our leading sponsor for
this is also Glenn Sminster forlegh GMC, because they're amazing sponsors. Yeah,
they're just great people and they believe in this cause.
And you know, Glenn was there last year and we
had a nine to eleven survivor and it was just amazing.
And so but those tickets are on sale. I think
we're selling tickets this year for one hundred dollars and

(05:37):
that includes your meal, that includes I think it includes
a cocktail and then you know, to enjoy the evening.
But you also have the option of gifting a ticket
to a first responder so that they can go and
attend the event free of charge.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
There you go. And also I think we've got ribbon
cutting on the fifth right, Oh, thank you please.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Toy Bank in Trust. Yes, correct, that's right. On this Thursday,
we do have a ribbon cutting followed by business after hours.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
There you go. Anything else, Sally, I don't think so.
Who's gonna win the game?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Broddy, I'm gonna go with the dogs?

Speaker 1 (06:09):
There you go. You're gonna pick a school right here
on front o.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
I'm gonna say it's going to be close, close, but
they win, but they win, they pull out the w
