Speaker 1 (00:00):
In the year. But since the region's changed in the
two teams split classifications, things have changed. So this game
will be Friday night. We're going to the Hamilton top
line to talk about Friday night's game. We're also going
to talk about op likeness last week's game against Callaway.
We're going to that Hamilton's hotline. Hamilton says two locations
to serve you on Magnolia and Ogle Tree. We bring
(00:20):
in opl like a football coach, Brian Moore Live, Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Coach, Good morning. How are you were?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Good man? Congrats on the win Friday night two and
oh good.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Job, appreciate it. Yeah, glad. You know, I thought we
played better that week one to week two. Improvement I
think was evident and started really fast. We kicked off
and and still actually led the game in the first
six minutes twenty one and nothing. So we created two
turnovers early, had some sudden change opportunities offensively that we
(00:51):
haven't had. We didn't have that against Ben Russell, and
so it was nice to get some takeaways and get
it back with short fields to our offense. And then
you know what we talked about the week before, with
some penalty issues. We really cleaned that up. We were
we weren't perfect, but we were better and so it
gave us some opportunities to stay ahead of the chains.
And uh and please that. And then I thought we
(01:12):
started the second half really fast. Ja Mary returned once
with a touchdown on kickoff and it put us up
thirty five to seven, and we really never looked back.
So uh, proud of that, Proud of you know, the
first game in Bulldog Stadium for our seniors, first home
game for them this year, and so they were excited
to get in front of a home crowd and I
thought they played.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Well, yeah good. How was it like coaching for you
coming back being at Bulldog Stadium on that side?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
You know, I don't think about it a whole lot,
I know, but I know pregame, I you know, I
sort of walk out kind of out of the way
in hopes that nobody even sees me walk out there
and sort of slid out there. And uh, but with
about five minutes to go before we kicked it, and
I did try to take it in. I try to
be a little bit more present, you know nowadays, and uh,
it was it was a great moment, you know, and
(01:57):
so excited and thankful, uh you know, you know, for
our for our kids, and thankful for all that's been
done to make it special because it was a really
great night and the stadium look amazing, and you know,
we have put a lot of work into the things
around the program, you know, not just the game itself,
but also all the things to accommodate our support staff
people and our officials and uh, you know, our jumbo
(02:21):
tron intro video and all that kind of stuff. It
was really cool. And then all the light show stuff
was really neat. So uh it was great to play
well too with all that going on. So just just
again happy and proud for our kids and grateful for
the opportunity to lead this program.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
There you go, Brian Moore with a soap black a
football coach. You're on the mark seven minutes past the hour.
Jeff James Demark here and with Kujo and with pe
d Clinton Studio coach. I don't think people realized what
all you did last week. We have have accomplished since
you've taken over one day. One thing you mentioned right
there is the Friday game day experience and making sure
everybody had proper everybody in the stadium had their proper stuff,
(02:57):
whether it was a chain crew, press box crew, And
I applaud you for that because that's all a part
of that process. You got to make sure you volunteers
are taking care of your ticket takers, your press spots crew,
your chain crew, your PA, your city officials, your boosters.
You did a great job with that, coach a great.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Job well, and I appreciate the help mark from you,
and uh, you know a lot of the people in
the community, just because it's it's hard to know, like
I mentioned, I think maybe the van you know, I
don't really when the ball games going on, I don't
see any of the things that go around outside of
that one hundred.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Yards not supposed to coach, you know.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
And and and that's purposeful, you know, to make sure
that that I keep my mind where it needs to be.
And so I don't see all that stuff. And so
I've had a lot of help, you know, with Jason
Lee and Fan and a lot of guys that have
sort of and of course you, you know, sort of helping me,
you know, make sure that we accommodate everybody. And so
I appreciate that, but I thought it was good. And
then even really yesterday we played a it was about
(03:55):
one hundred degrees on the turf. But yesterday we played
a JV game in the middle of the day because
we practiced yesterday morning. I'm being a holiday and so
we played Pike Road in Boodog Stadium and we had
a starting lineup and we had the jumbo trying, did
concessions and of course we wore game jerseys and hearing
a lot of stuff about that, which want to make
(04:16):
sure the experience is where it needs to be.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
You know what good for you it needs to be that.
That's just as important middle school games. It's the whole picture.
I agree, all right, coach open like Auburn week Wow,
it's a big week two. I mean in the this
to say Week three you going to the duck talk
about Auburn coach Keith Ethers to talk about the Tigers.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Well, first off, I have a ton of respect for them.
This will be my night experience playing in this game,
you know, or competing with them as a coach. And
you know, I think it's been an incredible rivalry over
the years, you know, especially you know, back to playing
them in the playoffs even and playing them twice in
a year in twenty twelve, and just a lot of
great moments and a lot of heartbreak in that game
(04:59):
as well. Is what rivalries really are. And uh, I
think we'll have two really good things going Friday. I think,
you know, I really feel like our team has really
improved and you know, obviously has to play extremely well.
But coach Etheridge is a state champion coach and a
great person first off, and just does an incredible job
with their program. And you know, my best friend Brandon
(05:21):
Johnson coaches their receivers there, and uh so we we
know each other quite well. That's a little different, you know,
Uh when you think about it, you know, you think
about you know, your play calls and your names and
you're signaling and all that stuff goes into it. So
we put a lot of work into making sure that,
you know, we cover up some of those things because
there's a lot of knowledge between the two programs. So,
(05:43):
you know, I think that they've got a great team.
Their quarterbacks back, they look completely different than they did
a year ago. You know, a year ago it was
heavy run, you know, two up backs and uh, you know,
direct snap type stuff. And I think they had a
baseball player that was playing quarterback that had just kind
of come on the scenes for them, and the kilgool
kid got hurt. And then so it's gonna look different
(06:04):
than a year ago. That was a heartbreaking game, you know,
thirty one thirty over like a lead I think two
scores late in that game. And so they again are
different than they looked a year ago. And they've got
a great football team and we'll have to play extremely well.
And but the deal is that we've got to be
super disciplined, like that's what that game's about. The game
is about, like not to get too deep, but mental stillness,
(06:26):
like just relaxing and playing and not doing things that
are out of character. I think that's been a little
bit of an achilles heel for us over the years
as we go, especially on the road, to where we
do things that we don't normally do and that's not
what we're going to do. We talked about that Sunday
in our meeting. I talked about it with our staff.
This is another football game. Obviously, it's massive. It's massive
because it's the rivalry and we want to win, you know,
(06:49):
so badly, But we can't do things that take us
out of our game. We've got to be ourselves and
play extremely hard within the whistles and not do anything
crazy and not let our emotions run hot, you know,
because that happens as well when you look at all
the stuff that goes on off the field, you know,
between the two schools, because we're so close, you know,
and our kids all know each other. So we just
(07:10):
got to do a great job of being ourselves and
play really hard and stay in the ball game and
give ourselves a chance to win at the end.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
There you go, Black a football coach Bryan wore with
as I didn't realize this, coach, I did know this.
Auburn's won four in a row, six out of the
last seven. Very interesting, as I remember coach Furlough saying
the night that coach mccracker retired, it's not a rival
unless you win win one or two. This is your
first one. I know so, but you're right. Thirty one
thirty last year, twenty nine to fifty one, sixteen, fourteen,
(07:39):
thirty seventeen, twenty one, thirteen, fifteen, twenty two, thirteen seventeen.
It's been some one point games coaching, and it's been
spread out.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
So yeah, you know, I think, you know, the last
few years had opportunities. You know, obviously two years ago
not as much, but right it looks as though those
opportunities have been there. But once again, it's about fen
and it's about understanding the game scenario. It's about you know,
if it's third and eight late and you're on defense,
you've got to get stop man. I mean, you know
(08:07):
that's what has to happen. You know, you've got to
be able to pick up that first down that they
couldn't pick up a year ago, you know, to ice
that game that that just didn't happen. And so you know,
it's got a little bit of that Auburn Alabama field
to be honest with you, Yeah, you know, Auburn University
can quite get over the hump in those two games
that were in Jordan. Here it's been that way a
little bit for a palaika. So you know, they got
to do an incredible job, you know again of finishing
(08:29):
and making sure we understand what's going on in the
ball game and making sure that you know, our kids
are disciplined late and and that sort of thing. So again,
you know, for us, it's about ourselves and about playing
really well and understanding those scenarios that inevitably happen in
these type of games.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Coach, I have not seen your football team in person
this year. Okay, I've seen tape. I've you know, obviously
been to your lunches, and I've seen video your quarterbacks
a sophomore, Kobe Key obviously played last year as a
freshman at another school. He did a great job. He's
going to the duck. I've been in many of these
football games, coach, as you know a lot of them,
(09:05):
not not coaching a lot of them on the radio.
But you know, all watching this is a This game
right here is an up and down roller coaster from
start to finish. You can't get too high and you
can't get too low. How do you how do you
manage that, coach with all the emotion because one side
is going to be happy one minute, the other side
is going to be sad, the other side is going
to be happy. Uh, you know it's up and down
(09:26):
that you hope it's up and down anyway, coach, if
you know what I mean, or maybe you hope it
all one way? Give me your thoughts on that.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Well, yeah, you're absolutely right. I mean, you know there's
huge momentum swings. I think about all the way back
to fourteen. You know, we jumped up twenty to us
at halftime in that game, and Auburn roared back. You know,
we had to win it, you know, at the end,
and we did. But it is emotional and their crowd
is incredible, and so they can really get in it,
you know, and influence the game a little bit. It ultimately,
it starts with the coaches that are on that sideline.
(09:53):
I mean, it starts with us not panicking, me not panicking,
you know, and in the big moments, like for me,
you know, you have to be the calmist, you know,
and you have to keep your cause your kids are
going to react off of you, you know, whether it's
an official like a penalty or you know whatever, or
a momentum swing just generally in the ballgame. You have
to stay calm and stay in the fight because you
(10:15):
can run your kids mentally out of that ball game
pretty quickly. And so I've challenged all of our coaches
to do that. You're right, there are going to be
ebbs and flows in this ball game, and we've got
to handle those momentum swings that are going to come and,
you know, and and find a way to make plays. Now,
the good thing is and the encouraging thing, you know,
is that we've made those plays. You know, if you
look at Ben Russell, you know they had Obviously it's
(10:37):
not that big of a game as it will be
this Friday, but we had two times we had to
come back and score when we were backed up against
the wall a little bit, and we did that, you know,
And so I I have a lot of confidence in that.
As far as Kobe's concerned. You know, Kobe's a gamer.
I mean Kobe right now. Obviously he's not seen a
defense like this one, you know, but he's eighteen of
twenty on the year with a drop in five touchdowns.
(10:58):
Kobe has been incredibly efficient. Again, we've sort of held
the reins on him to keep him, you know, comfortable
and and confident. You know, we're not putting him in
bad spots right now. But he's gonna have to make
plays in this game. And but we've got guys around
him that we hope will help him do that. So
I've been really pleased with Kobe. He obviously is originally
from Auburn, and so that weighs into it, same as
(11:21):
it does with Ty Hudson, you know, And so we've
talked to those guys about that, about you know, just
not letting it become emotional and not letting it become
too big for them. Just play the game. You know.
It's the cliche is is just another opponent. We all
know that's not really true, you know, But what we've
got to do a great job of keeping ourselves calm
and making sure we're there for Kobe within the game.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
You mentioned Hudson, boy, he played well in the first game.
Hadn't seen his stats in game two. Uh, he's been
a he's been a good part of your defense. He's
played well.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Coach, it appears, Yeah, he's a you know, he's a
he's a great player. And uh, you know, I think
he you know, he's really played well in both games.
He's a leader for us and has just done a
great job, you know, for our team of just really
you know, leading and running and tackling. And he didn't
have a lot have a lot of production this past game,
(12:10):
but that's because our d line made so many plays
you know, the game before it gets been rusty in
thirteen tackles in the game, and he'll end up leading
us in tackles, I'm sure on the year. And uh,
he's just a great player and we're really thankful to having.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Yeah, obviously is it Miller coach just played real well,
maybe is that the right one?
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Who's that back? Or yeah? Jamari? Yeah? So slot receiver, yea.
He well, he's played all over really return kicks and
punts and uh, he had three touchdowns Friday. Very dynamic player. Uh.
You know, he's got an opportunity to to have an
incredible year. Uh, and our guys are doing a really
(12:47):
good job of getting it to him different ways. And honestly,
up until this point we've been very conservative with him.
He's gonna need to do even more playing Auburn. So
but they've got their own version, you know, with him
and Patrick Plott and and he's an incredible player as well.
So uh, you know again that it'll be fun to
see those those two kids that are very similar in
the way they played with Yester Mar's had a great
(13:09):
start coach.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
There special for a reason. Special teams. Auburn has always
had a good special teams. They got a young man
starting over at ALBN right now, I'm glad he's over there. Okay,
I'm letting my grad come out him. Tell me about
your special teams.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Versus Auburn, Yeah, you know he is. You know, obviously,
they they've been great over the years. I can remember
every year they seem to have a kicker, and every
year all their specialists are at a high level. I
do think this year that we can match them from
a specialist standpoint. I think, you know, we Zion did
not have to punt this past riety. You know, I
hope that's the case this Friday. I don't foresee that,
(13:45):
but I hope it's the case. But Zion Henderson has
a big leg for us. Donny Cecina has a big leg.
I think pick four touchbacks this past friety, which obviously
the game changer in high school football, not being able
to bring those things out of the end zone. And
then you know, we've been really good system on our
pat field goal this year. Johnny's missed one field goal,
(14:05):
but it was from forty seven and had plenty of leg.
We just looked at it a little bit. So again,
I do think that Auburn's always been incredible in the
special team space. Obviously, the kid that's kicking it all
from university was a different breed and uh, but you
know this year they've got another great kicker that is
really developing. I mean he was I think in a
kicking battle this spring and has really come along and
(14:26):
won that job. So I think he kicked four or
five touchbacks this past week against Ostavia. So you know,
they've got a great plan there. Obviously, spend a bunch
of time on it like we do. But you know
that's the factor in the game. Mark, like you mentioned
that people don't really notice that that can really impact
the game.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Yeah, every little play, Jeff, Coop anything, No, I'm looking
forward to fry. Yeah, I am too. It ought to
be a goodie coopiet anything. No, I hat. I'm just listening.
All right, there you go, all right, plans for the
rest of the week. Take us through your team if
you will.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah, you know, we we had a good Yeah, we
had a good day yesterday on a holiday. You know,
we went in the morning, which was a long, long
Sunday because normally we have the day Monday to prepare
for Monday aftering practice, but we didn't have that opportunity,
so Sunday night was a late night for our coaches
to get prepared for Monday. But I thought we had
a really good day. I thought our looks are getting better.
(15:18):
You know, Monday's a big scout day for us. Tuesday
today will be more more competition with our with good
versus good and kind of sharpen ourselves. Uh, it'll be
a long practice this afternoon and then uh and actually
our flag football team plays tonight, so we'll get to
stay and see them, and then uh, tomorrow morning we'll practice,
and Thursday morning we'll practice and uh, you know when
(15:41):
we'll eat a female Thursday afternoon and Friday morning we'll
have walkthroughs and meetings and breakfast together and you know,
get ready to go. We're lucky that it's a short drive,
you know, a short trip over there. We'll jump on
those charter buses and head over there and you know,
and hopefully play really well. But I like our plan.
I like where our kids are. We're healthy, and uh,
we feel good about you know, we feel good about
(16:03):
the week. But again, it's gonna take up an incredible
effort and it's gonna take us playing extremely well to
have a chance to win and get to.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
One to know in the region, all right, coach, appreciate
your time this morning, Appreciate the stats. Have a great week.
I'll see you Wednesday night at MOS.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
All right, Thank you, guys, and go dogs
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Go dolls, coach Brian Moore, the OPLACA bulldog head for
