(00:00):
Well, welcome to our non headlinenews extended edition. What do we got
today, Scotty. I'm excited. We'll do a little overtime sharing some stories
that maybe we did on our radioshow and the Triad, maybe something you
haven't heard, but we get totalk a little more in depth like this.
Okay, kids love Halloween, Yes, adults love Halloween. Who doesn't.

(00:21):
It's a dating at candy. Yeah, but it seems like more adults
are really investing in Halloween now,and especially when it comes to those giant
figures that are in yards, thebig like twelve foot tall skeletons. Yes,
there's six foot tall skeleton and onetwelve foot version of it is at
home depot. These are selling outon Amazon and all stores right now.

(00:44):
And they also are selling something calledan electronic weeping willow tree. What.
Okay, this sounds cool? Iwon't. I don't have a yard.
What are we going to do withthe tree? But tell me more because
it sounds really cool. Well, that's pretty much it. It lights up
and then it I guess it weepsand does things. Tall is it?
It doesn't say, but I willtell you this. It sounds like something
from Harry Potter, you know thatkind of Yes, the tree that they

(01:07):
drive the car into. Yeah, that one. Thanks. I wonder if
I could put it on my dip. They also sell this, and this
is what I want to put.I want to buy this, put it
in my bathroom. And it isa bath mat and when you step on
it with wet feet, it lookslike blood, didn't you imagine? So
that is something that if we hadit, and I don't know if you
know this, Frank, my boyfriendis a massive Halloween nut, like he

(01:30):
went all out. Our house isdecorated for Halloween the way you love Christmas.
He loves Halloween. Yes, Andif we had this bath mat,
it would be a year round thing, like it would never go away.
Well, that's the thing is youshould note it to your partner before you
just will let them walk out andthink they're bleeding. But you know,
surprises, you know, keeping thingslively in the relationship. All right,

(01:53):
Well, let's talk about being avegan. There are three things, according
to a dietician, that you needto know that are just not true.
Carbs make you fat. No,that is not true. It's over eating
carbs that can make you fat.But in small portions. Carbs like whole
grains give you energy and burn calories. Number two vegan is healthy. Well,

(02:16):
not always. There are benefits. But while avocados and bananas are vegan,
oreos and doritos are too. Soit's funny you bring that up.
I have someone who's gone on thishealth journey. It's been a whole thing.
I hate that. Oh it's vegan, it's health It's not like it
just because it doesn't have meat ordairy in it does not mean it's necessarily

(02:38):
the best for you. The otherword, the buzzword that people love is
organic. That's not necessarily healthy alwayseither. An organic label can be put
on a food that's only partly organic. If you look on Amazon, you'll
find organic cheese its and pop tarts. Right. Did I ever tell you
about the time I decided I wasgoing to become a vegetarian? Oh?

(02:58):
No, okay. I was incall all right, sophomore you're of college.
Okay, so you weren't doing thisto your parents as it? No?
No, no, no no no. I just for some reason thought
this was a genius idea. Idon't even know how it popped into my
head. It lasted about a weekand it ended with me on a Saturday
afternoon going to an Herbert and Gerbertsubshop, which is like a Jimmy John's
subway, if you will. Andthey had this sandwich that had literally every

(03:21):
type of deli meat on it possible, every kind you could imagine, salami,
roast, beef, turkey, ham. I'm like, I'll have one
of those, please, And Igot the biggest one and just and that
was the end of my vegetarian Youwent out in style. Yes, I'm
like, I can't handle this anymore. And I snapped you didn't ease back
into the meat community. I dovewrite it. I was like, welcome

(03:43):
back. Did you get the meatsweats? Do you remember? It was
the summer in Cargo, North Dakota. It was very hot seats all right.
Poison ivy apparently is a huge issue, and I know it's whereas the
weather starts to cool down, it'llbe nice to see this get remedied by
nature. But apparently it's thriving inthe warmer temperatures and rising carbon dioxide levels.

(04:05):
So poison ivy is growing faster andbigger and more toxic. Oh,
so be careful if you're if you'rea nature enthusiast, if you're a hiker,
a gardener, a landscaper, anythingit takes you outdoors, Especially if
you're a hiker and you think you'regoing to use nature as toilet paper.
You always hear those horror stories oflike I got poison ivy and you're like

(04:28):
where, and it's in your netherregions? Right, because they went to
the bathroom in the woods. Well, now we know why those bears in
the commercial are using Sharman. Right. A woman took her car to a
Fort Wayne, Indiana car wash, and she she knew she hit a bird
and it was in her grill,so she asked for help and they were
removing the bird, they heard anoise. Now was it from the bird?

(04:51):
Oh? It was from a groundhog? What The ground had gotten into
the bumper and somehow just was positionedup been there And they ended up taking
the car from the car wash nextdoor to a Jiffy loop place. They
remove the bumper, outcomes Ponksitani Philor whatever runs to the back, jumps

(05:11):
up in the back of under thetire. They had suspension issues. Anyway,
they finally got the thing out headfor the little guy and Mike the
groundhog did survive. They said hewas cute but definitely mad that we were
trying to take him from his warmhome, and they ended up rescuing Mike

(05:31):
the groundhog. What kind of sounddoes a groundhog make? Like a hiss?
I would imagine it's some sort ofgrowl. Oh, you know,
kind of badgerish. Maybe, Scotty, we have a higher power on our
side, keep talking about Google. What does a groundhog sound like? Okay,

(05:53):
well we're at the last story,so we'll use that sound right at
the end, so you can lookforward to that. A Michigan woman rescued
when she got stuck in a publicouthouse. The woman was heard yelling for
help, told first responder she haddropped her Apple Watch in the toilet.

(06:14):
She then lowered herself inside the toiletto retrieve said apple watch. Part with
it, sweethearts. This is wherewe asked Scotty and Hannah with another one
of life's hard hitting questions. Wouldyou or wouldn't you? All right?
Apple watch in a public outhouse? That was God's way of telling me I

(06:38):
no longer needed the apple Watch. That is what that was. You know
what's weird about this story because youthink about as a dude anyway, I
think tools. I'm like, whatis around? Is there a stick in
the woods? Is there something Icould I could use a fishing rod and
reel and just drop something down andsnag it. I don't know, there's
some other answer besides climbing in there. Oh so, can I tell it?

(06:59):
My friend did once she was ata football game, right college football
game, and she went into theporta potti, and she dropped her sunglasses
in the in the hole, andshe was like, oh man, they
were really expensive, designer sunglasses. But she decided she parted with it.
Okay, She goes to the game. Hours later, she comes back uses
the same porta potti, only tosee that the sunglasses have risen to the

(07:20):
top. She reached and took themout, took them home, washed them
in her dishwasher, and continued wearingthem. Oh boy, if it falls
in your own toilet, that's onething, right, really well, it
came out of me, But strangersmatter. I think maybe this is why

(07:40):
when you look on Facebook marketplace andyou find things marked way down. If
it's too good to be true,it has poop on it, It was
probably rescued from like that. Okay, we've promised the folks. Do you
have the sound of a groundhog?I have the sound of the groundhog.

(08:01):
Oh so it's a chirping sound.Yeah, okay, it's like a bird.
That's kind of what I was whoathat groundhog? Do you know that
a groundhog is part of the sameanimal kingdom as the squirrels. They're known
as observing mammals, so I guessthey all kind of come from like the
same kingdom species. And squeezing thatgroundhog a minute ago, what's going on?

(08:26):
It sounded like Alvin and the chipmunk. I know it's a groundhog blow
in a whistle? Wow, Ohthank you for that. I feel like
today was worthwhile. We did learnsomething today. We did. We learned
together, don't we. And that'sgoing to wrap it up for this edition
of Non Headline News Extended addition,We'll see you next time.
