Cocko cocko in the corner. Try the center, just on
the reach love fence. Done and there is your final horn.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
The Krack in earning a split in back to back
games on the road improving, Sometimes you play well enough
to win and just get goalid. That was one of
those instances on Sunday when the Kraken failed to Dallas
two to one, all the offense coming in period one
when Jayden Schwartz his game opening goal was answered by
back to back Dallas goals from Wayan Johnston and Tyler Sagan.
(05:06):
Matt Murray, aiming for his first win in a Crack
in Jersey, was terrific twenty two saves on twenty four shots,
but out duel by Casey de Smith and net, earning
first Star honors admittedly deserved for him thirty saves out
of thirty one shots as well, with a krake in
coming away out shooting Dallas thirty one twenty four while
getting a solid performance in net from goaltender Matt Murray,
(05:29):
who unfortunately fell just short of his first career win
with the krack in. Here's the reaction from Jayden Schwartz
after the game beginning on Murray, who kept the Kraken
in the game all night long.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
Made it two to one, and then he's made some
big saves to keep it two to one, keep us
in the game. So he's very happy for him. He's
been working hard. Both him and Ruby have been you know,
dialed in, and both played really well, battled hard and
need some big saves.
Speaker 7 (05:55):
I know it's not in your position, but how hard
is it not to see shots for two to three
weeks and then play a game tonight.
Speaker 8 (06:01):
Yeah, I mean credit to them.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
They've been working hard and staying dialed in and doing
what they need to do, and it's not easy when
you're you know, not not in game one, I guess.
So they did a great job. You're happy for both
of them. They played excellent.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
No consolation, But you guys want to be in close games,
right You want to make sure you have a chance
to go way out and you don't get it tonight.
But at the same time, you're you don't go down.
You got to go in with the second period, you
stay in the game.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Yeah, I mean we played good, a lot of chances.
It was a tight checking game, was fast. You know,
it's a battle every time you play these guys. So
we had our looks, had our chances.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
You know.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Our goalie and their goalie both played good.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
All right, Moving ahead here to what's up next to
the seating the Crack and take on the Columbus Blue
Jackets for the first matchup of the season, home stand
opening up as well, joining us Dylan Tyer, our friend
here of Cracking this morning, also radio host for the
Blue Jackets ninety seven point one FM. The fan in
Columbus is where you can hear him and the rest. Dylan,
(07:06):
thank you again for doing this. We're getting into the
colder months. Has the first snowfall reached Columbus.
Speaker 9 (07:12):
Yeah, we actually just got our first snowfall a night ago.
So I woke up and it was all white outside,
So it was pretty funny to see that. I was
actually up in Cleveland over the weekend, so we were
driving back in a little bit of a snowstorm back
to Columbus. But yes, we are here. Winter has arrived.
Speaker 8 (07:30):
Yes, Ohio, no longer is it. Winter is coming.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I certainly understand that I can empathize where I was
born nearly in a snowstorm in Cleveland, Ohio, on a
way to the hospital, so I can.
Speaker 8 (07:39):
Certainly relate on that note.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Here the first big stretcher for the Blue Jackets coming
up Dylan nine of twelve games on the road. How
much does this stretch have the potential to impact their season?
Speaker 9 (07:52):
Oh, I mean, I think it's huge. You just look
at the Blue Jackets last year and they fell just
short of making the playoffs. And I think you can
look at what they did on the road last season.
I mean a lot of that is the reason they
fell short. The Blue Jackets were not very good away
from Nationwide Arena last year. They're hoping to change that
(08:12):
this year. The Blue Jackets started really, really nice on
the road this season. They've been playing good hockey. Faltered
a little bit on the start of their current road trip,
but they of course want to get back on track.
It's a tough schedule the rest of this month. Frankly,
all season long. It's going to be tough just because
of the Olympics and the way that everything is compacted,
(08:32):
but everybody has to deal with that. It's not just
the Blue Jacket. The way that I talked about it
though at the beginning of this road trip is the
Blue Jackets need to come away with points this month
in particular because just look at how tightly things are
packed right now in the Eastern Conference. The league across
the board is just so competitive right now, which is good.
The parody is awesome, but you've got to come away
(08:55):
with points because it is a sprint. Everybody's thinking, oh,
it's an eighty two game season, it's a marathon. I
kind of call it a sprinting marathon, like you got
to be on your p's and q's from the start.
The Blue Jackets know that they've been very, very motivated
from the start of the season because they don't want
to be in the position they were in last year
on the outside looking in when it comes down to it.
(09:18):
So you know, the sense of urgency is high right now.
This is a pivotal, pivotal stretch in their season.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Yeah, I mean it's early, but you're starting to see
some top end teams make their move, especially in the
metro with Carolina, New Jersey, Pittsburgh. How they're hanging around
is a million dollar question here at this point. On
top of that, but you're also looking here at what
Dean Evson can do. What's the read on how he's
handled things here with this group in his second season.
Speaker 9 (09:43):
Well, I mean there's a there's a good mutual respect,
I would say, between coach and players, and players and coach.
He's an interesting guy in that, you know, I would
call him a players coach in some regards, but he's
also he's also demanding and tough on these guys. I
think a big thing for the Blue Jackets coming into
(10:03):
training camp and going into the regular season really is that, Yeah,
it is year two with Dean Edison. The Blue Jackets
have had lots of turnover when it comes to the
head coach for the past few seasons, so the fact
that they've got continuity with the coaching staff. Also, not
very many changes to the Blue Jackets loster this offseason,
so a lot of the same guys back. It's just
(10:26):
more comfortability. And Emerson talked about it a lot throughout
training camps that there's not as much coaching or teaching
going on. Necessarily, it's a lot of let's get better
at the stuff that we did last season. When it
comes to the systems and things like that. For the
new guys, it's a reliance on the guys that were
here last year. You know, it's not necessarily teaching from
(10:48):
the coaching staff. It's instead, hey, I'm going to ask
Zach Warnsky what I need to do, or hey, Boon
Jenner is going to help me out and he's going
to guide the way. So I think he really likes
that that the team can kind of handle it, delf.
But when it comes down to it, you know, Dean
is the man in charge as well, and early this
season he's been doing some tinkering. You know, the Blue
Jackets they could stand a four more goals, so he's
(11:10):
been tinkering with the lines a bit. But I think
they've got a good thing going on right now at
the coaching staff and the team.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Seattle is going to going to look at Kreil Marchenko
twenty one goals for us cy young numbers he had
three years ago at the thirty goal plateau last season
and that pretty much showed that he has arrived, and
he may hit that again here for this year, Dylan,
how much more are the Blue Jackets asking out of
Marchenko in his fourth NHL season.
Speaker 9 (11:35):
Well, I don't know how much it is that they're
asking from Marchenko, because if you saw the roster last
year and the way that it statistically broke down, the
Blue Jackets got contributions from up and down their lineup.
They had the most fifteen goal scorers of any team
in the NHL, so pretty good depth. I think the
hope is that there's more of the same for the
Blue Jackets this year. But early on it has been
(11:58):
Carol Marchenko carrying a load to Matri Verronkov has been
part of that too, and of course zak Larensky on
the Blue Jackets blue line. I will say, though you
look at some of the underlying numbers for Peral Marchenko analytically,
I think he's a top fifteen, top twenty player in
the NHL, and he certainly looks like that on a
night to night basis that, I'm not sure how underrated
(12:18):
Marchenko it still is, because he did break out last
year with the thirty goals and seventy plus points, but
it seems like there's still more in the tank for
the guy. He's very, very talented. He affects the game
whenever he's on the ice, so I've really enjoyed watching him,
and I think a lot of that has to do
with the battles and his compete. He's not necessarily a
(12:40):
physical player in the sense that he's gonna kill guys
out there, but if you watch him, he wins lots
of battles and he makes it difficult to play again.
So he has the puck a lot of course to
his playmaking and the shot terrific.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Dylan Tyer joining us here on Kracken this morning ahead
of the Crack and the Columbus Bluejackets a climbate pledge arena.
We'll get to Zachrensky here in a bid Dylan, of course,
he's a hot topic on that blue line, but more
uprunt Adam Fantili and Matty Beniers will be linked in
their careers as the guys who just narrowly missed each
other at Michigan and Fantilly picked third overall in the
(13:13):
twenty twenty three draft. By the time that ben Hear
has already had established himself here with the Crack, and roster.
Fantilly hit thirty one goals last season, and by most
accounts yet he's been snaking for much of this season.
So what's the challenge for him to get back to
where he needs to get to.
Speaker 9 (13:29):
I just think for Fantilly it's not a matter of
necessarily scoring goals, because that's going to come. If you
recall last year, he started a little bit slow in
the first half and then completely exploded when it came
to the production and the goal scoring in the second
half last year. I think for Adam the challenge is
positively affecting the game that he's on the ice. Every
(13:50):
time he's on the ice, right, you want to have
an impact out there, and you want to be not
necessarily just contributing, but when it comes to the I
test and the analytics behind that, you want to prove
and you want to show that you were affecting the
hockey game when you were on the ice. So I
think just more meaningful shifts for Adam Fantilly is going
to start that and the points will come. And of course,
(14:12):
like I talked about in incidet Dean Edison is tinkered
with the lines a little bit. We've seen Adam Fantilly
get an opportunity to play in between Kerl Marshenko and
Dimitri Barankov, and when he did that, he looked good.
He looked better. So we'll see what the Blue Jackets
do going forward with where they play Fantilly and who
they play him with. But I think that is the
number one thing, is just positively affecting the hockey game
(14:35):
when you were on the ice, whether that defensively, whether
that's contributing in the offensive end. But I think that
goal scoring is going to come. He's too good of
a player, and he showed that he was too good
of a player last season to keep being staked fit
in the way that he's did.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Zach Wrensky time talk about him. He's got a great
shot to make Team US, say for the Olympics.
Speaker 8 (14:56):
This winner.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
His numbers just absolutely exploded this last season.
Speaker 8 (15:00):
Villain.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
If there was anything that you saw what may be
surprised you the most about his game and the next
level that he found.
Speaker 9 (15:08):
Man, it's tough for me to be surprised, given that
I've watched Zach Warenski's entire career here in Columbus. Maybe
the one thing that I would say though, is just
the year that he reached last season without necessarily seeming tired.
You know, Zach played the most minutes in the NHL
per game last year. He's right up there again this season.
(15:29):
And a guy just doesn't seem to get tired. He's
always got something extra in the tank. And remember last
year he didn't get a break when it came to
the Floor Nations face off. He was te USA's leading
scorer at the Floor Nations face off. So this is
a guy that for some reason and somehow he's just
able to keep digging and keep finding energy. He really
(15:51):
credits it to the way that he trains in the
off season, and Adam Vantilly actually started to train with
Zach Warenski. So I'm curious to see what he looks
like too as the season goes on. But you know,
Zach has put in a lot of work. He's dealt
with injury in the past in his career, and last
season he stayed mostly healthy and you know, obviously, so far,
so good this year. But I would say that's just
(16:14):
if I had to take one thing that surprises me
about Zach Warenski that he somehow continues to find more
when you know, he has proven that he's one of
the best defense in the NHL, and last season we
saw that he was, you know, a top three, top
five defense in the NHL, and he hasn't really slowed
down this season. So he is a very underrated and
(16:34):
fun player to watch.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Twenty three goals, eighty two points last season on that
blue line.
Speaker 8 (16:39):
He's a special talent.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
The Blue Jackets a plenty of those also in the
youthful category, and they're coming.
Speaker 8 (16:45):
Here for the second of back to back. Dylan, Hey,
appreciate this, Thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
I know it's going to be a bit late for
you on the Eastern time zone part of this. So
whether it's coffee, a cup of tea, diet soda, whatever
it is, I raised you a coup Hey for the
broadcast to saving Thank you man.
Speaker 9 (16:59):
All right, thank you, Mike, I appreciate it. That's the
left for the crack in this season.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
All right.
Speaker 8 (17:03):
That's Dill and Tyra joining us. Dill and thank you
very much.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Wishing you a great show here for this evening, ending
back to back on your side, the Kraken trying to
get matters going this evening on a winning note against
the Blue Jackets. Where the Cracking have been terrific on
home ice this season, with a record of four to
one and two, allowing just eighteen goals in seven home
games this season. That amids top ten defensively in the NHL.
For this campaign, want to again invite you to be
