The Seattle Kracket returned home for a three game homestand
following a hard fought back to back in the Central Division.
After a four to three overtime win in Saint Louis
on Saturday, the Kracket, We're in Dallas twenty four hours
later and we're in the fight early against the Stars.
Three forty five in. James Schwartz put the Cracking up
one nothing. However, back to back goals for the Stars

(00:44):
gave them a two to one lead, and the Kraken
pushed relentlessly in the second and third, but that score
held up throughout the remainder of the game, despite Seattle
registering thirty one shots on goal. Tonight, Seattle welcomes in
the Columbus Blue Jackets, who were coming off a disappointing
loss last night in Edmonton and looking to snap a
four game skin. Good evening. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome inside

Out Over the weekend, the Kraken get a hard fought
split four to three overtime win in Saint Louis a

(01:36):
two to one loss in Dallas on Sunday. But the
theme of the weekend was that structure, was that discipline
that we've seen so often from this team this year.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
Yeah, there was nothing easy about those two games. Put
themselves behind in the Saint Louis game and find a
way to battle back. It took. It took fifty nine
minutes and fifty nine and a half seconds to get
it done there, to get to overtime, and then and
then obviously win an overtime, huge and else game playing
well enough to get something out of it. Unfortunately, not
getting anything out of it was probably frustrating this team.

(02:06):
But I've got to believe they're bringing that work ethic
into this game tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Back to back games in which the Kraken having goaltenders
on essentially two and a half weeks rest, with Philip
Grubauer going in Saint Louis, Matt Murray going in Dallas.
Matt Murray gonna get the start here at to nine is.
We still are unsure of the status of Joey Decord,
but I feel like those two had to have been
on top of maybe Chandler Stevenson's goal of point five

(02:30):
leven in regulation, those two had to be the MVPs.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
Of the weekend. Yeah, I mean absolutely, Matt Murray stopping
twenty two of twenty four in that Dallas game, and
you know, the two goals that went in, a power
play goal and a breakaway not exactly goals that are
easy to stop. But I like the way Lane Lambert
put it today. Yeah, you said two and a half
weeks of rust, Yeah, rest, And he's right, because when
you take that much time off as a goaltender, it's
hard to just turn it on.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
On the other side of the red line. This is
a very interesting Columbus Blue Jackets team. They are er
three and one in their last games. They were six
one and zero in their previous seven. Coming off of
a fine four overtime loss last night in Edmonton where
they led four to in the third period, there's a
flu bud going through their locker room, So Jet Greeves
will get the start for the second game in a row.

(03:15):
I think the Blue Jackets they've got high hopes for
a playoff spot this season, but they've really cooled off
in the last week.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Yeah, the thing about illness is you never know who's
got it unless they can't go, and who's about to
get it and will be in the lineup tonight. But
Sean Monahan, Matthew Olivier, Zach Austin Reese, Isaac LUNs From
have all been affected by whatever this bug is, And
like I said, you don't know if it's done yet
or if the next guys are coming through from this
game tonight.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
And as a result, every crack and player on the
ice will be wearing masks. Yes, a full massot and
they will not be doing that, but Mike Bentions standing

Glad You're with Us, Mike betting again with you Back
by the Corse Light, landing in section twenty where the
Crack can open a three game home stand. With a
record right now of seven four and four eighteen points
on the season, they are tied for second in the
Pacific Division and Columbus coming in right now floating around

(07:18):
five hundred seven, seven and one fifteen points, and they
are near in the end of what has been a
gauntlet in more ways than one of a five game
road trip. The Crack and trying to improve on a
five to one and two head to head record against
Columbus and also snap back to back losses had to
head here in this series. Well against Columbus is saving

(07:40):
the overall themous Can the Crack and make big gains
on home ice, The odds, you could say, maybe are
in their favor. Their record at home against Columbus three
to zero to one and against the Blue Jackets best
points percentage against anybody in the NHL not name the
Buffalo sabers zat clockson at seven fifty have five to
one and two. But the crack and facing Columbus team

(08:00):
this evening that is going through some bumps in the
road literally. First off, the Blue Jackets zero three and one.
Of the five game road trip, they've allowed seventeen goals.
Their power play has gone through a four game draft
at zero of ten. They have allowed thirty one goals
on the road, tied for six worse in the league.
Butt As Everett Now hinted earlier, they're also going through
a bit of a flu bug here, which could affect

(08:22):
their energy for this evening, coming off the end of
back to back after they lost a heartbreaker last night
five to four in overtime against Edmondton. The Kraken, coming
off a back to back of their own, and right
here against Dallas, showed signs that they were in this
thing all the way to the very end.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Based off left size, Seattle wins it. Swartz to the
line done, dear signed Adam Larson shots ten scoress. Adam
Larson from the right side, ripped it toward the goal,
hit something or someone in front.

Speaker 10 (08:58):
Jayden Schwartz will lead the handshake line.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
It's a one nothing.

Speaker 11 (09:02):
See I don't cracking lead.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Well, it starts with a face off winning the offensive
end of the ice. Matty Benieer is getting that puck back.
It goes over to Adam larsening to this head up,
hard rest shot on the ice that Jaen Schwartz gets
a piece of beats Casey the Smith top shelf glove
side one nothing cracking.

Speaker 9 (09:18):
Good signs early on when Jaden Schwarz scoring that goal. Unfortunately,
it was the only Kraken goal of the night, a
Z fell to one of the Dallas Stars. Very good
as well in shot suppression, the Kraken allowing just fourteen
shots over the course of period two. In period three
for the first period and special teams, the biggest difference
in that game where in mark the fourteen time in

(09:38):
fifteen games the Kraken couldn't get out a period one
with a lead. Additionally, the Kracking coming up empty on
three power play chances, Dallas going one for three on
their end despite Matt Murray putting forth a pretty big
effort two goals allowed twenty four shots. Casey to Smith,
you could argue you stole that game for Dallas. Thirty

(10:00):
or thirty saves out of thirty one shots well despite
the loss. Captain Jordan Everly is saying earlier today, the
Kraken feel good about where they're at coming home.

Speaker 12 (10:10):
Yeah, I mean we had an important home stentd here
obviously coming off the loss, you know, I think we've
been pretty good at home as a late. This is
a team that was played last night, but we watched them.
They're they're a really good team, the fastest skilled. You know,
they can score playoffense. The biggest thing for us is
try to, you know, get to our game which is defended,
and try and create off of that. So, you know,
I think we're probably gripping the stick a little bit

(10:32):
from how the game went last time, but we created
a lot. I think we've got to try and put
that in. Just try and execute within the chances to come.

Speaker 9 (10:37):
So it's a new day and can the Kraken capitalize
on that? Here from the get go our cracking story lines.
First off, open up here with a lineup shuffle. Berkeley
Canton will be in the middle with guests who won
his right wing. That's Shane Wright moved off the center position.
He'll go over to more of a shooter's position as well.
So Canton's your third line center right on the right wing.

(10:58):
Coming tonight after well a conversation with him and he
told me that it opens up more chances here to shoot.
You go back and think his overtime goal against Saint Louis.
It was a beauty right over the shoulder of Joelhoffer.
Can the crack and unlock more of that? But also
Ellie Tolbnan on the left wing. Can they unlock more
of this game offensively? He's shown hints of that where

(11:19):
he's now had a point per game total here in November,
that being five points in five games. Second storyline, Matt
Murray gets to start once again. Can he follow up
with more of a big effort like in the Dallas
game against Columbus? All time the number is very very good,
nine to two and one in twelve games, nine one
four say percentage. However, it's his first time facing Columbus

(11:42):
in six years. Last time that happened to course October
fifth of twenty nineteen when he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
But he has won seven of his last eight matchups
where this evening he is also searching for his first
win in a Crack in Jersey or third storyline special
teams here for this evening and power play with goals
in four of their last six games, but also want

(12:03):
to improve on a twenty third rank right now at
home in the NHL, and they're facing a Columbus team
that's playing with confidence on the penalty kill clean sheet
they have in six in the last seven games. But
Columbus also second worst power play in the NHL five
for thirty six here to begin in the season, So
if the Kraken can win that battle, it would definitely
help them out. That's more on the crack inside, and

(12:25):
Jordan Nebery said the power play won't guarantee results, but
he likes where they're headed right now.

Speaker 12 (12:31):
No, I mean, I think the power player, with the
exception of maybe the same asday game has been good.
We've created momentum, we've created chances. Obviously we want a
couple more goals here. But you know, even in the
third period against Alas, we had a chance to tie
the game and I think we had two minutes and
probably six seven shots. I mean, we's that's that's the
stuff you want to do. I mean, it's not going

(12:51):
to go in every night, but if you're creating, you
know each other night. You're putting pressure on your winning battles.
You're making loose fuck plays. I mean you're going to eventually,
you know, Pot two three games, So you're gonna have
games where you don't he games we do. So as
long as, like I said, it's there, we're puck movement's there,
the intensity is at, the battle levels there, you know,
I like the where the power pots at.

Speaker 9 (13:10):
Eberly has helped out plenty of young players in his
career and Berkeley Catton here is certainly no exception where
Eberly said he's seen the youngster do a lot of
right things early on.

Speaker 12 (13:20):
More games he plays, the more he's gonna, you know,
feel more confident, and the more he's gonna you know,
even from day one, I thought he was, you know,
doing the things he needed to do. He's using his
skating and you know the quickness that he has and
to vate players and creating new chances. I mean, you
can see the skills all there. He's got to continue
to just you know, get some confidence and build and
I mean it's Skuy's a limb for him. He's got

(13:42):
all the tools.

Light Jews Chill. Time Now for a look at Columbus
where they come in still sputtering with their record, but
plenty of offensive firepower. And it begins with Caill Marshenko
up to a hot start. Eight goals in fifteen games
last season, hitting thirty one goals for a career high
to Meetri Varankov not too far behind second right now

(17:05):
in the Blue Jackets thirteen points and seven goals plus
on their back end. Zach Warensky, a big shot to
make Team USA at the Olympics last year, hitting eighty
one points in eighty two games, and since the beginning
of last season, leads the NHL in most ice time
per game. The Jackets all going through a tough stretch
where they've been beaten up on this road trip three

(17:27):
to one through four games. They've given up seventeen goals
on the trip, also battling a flu bug going through
their room, and they lost last night five to four
in Edmonton in overtime where they had three to one
and four to two leads, spoiled on two goals each
by Connor McDavid and Jake Wallman. And they're ending this
five game road trip here, also in a stretch of

(17:49):
nine to twelve on the road. But despite the tough
road trip, head coach Dan Emison doubled down last night
on where his team is heading after the ot loss
in Edmonton.

Speaker 13 (18:00):
We don't talk a lot after games. Well, yeah, we
did shut this after this game. That that you got
to get your heads up, and we play again tomorrow, right,
so you know this game's gone. We'll learn from some
stuff obviously, some of those mistakes I just mentioned, but
we competed our asses off and that's what we want
from the from the guys, and we did that tonight.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
We'll do it again.

Speaker 9 (18:22):

this team to go in this finale of their road
trip leading us here to our Blue Jacket story lines,
the kracking, trying to cool off, kill mar Shenko eight
game points streak for him, he'll be on the right wing.
It looks like with Dimitri Varan Cobb and Adam Van
Tilly and Jed Greed. Second story line, he'll go in
that once again, which means he'll play him back to

(18:43):
back games. First time the Blue Jackets breaking that platoon system.
It's his first career game against the Kraken and last
night five goals allowed on twenty four shots at Edmonton
out of the Kraken. Answer, Columbus Everett, now have your

Shotgun Cracking back home for a three game homestand beginning
tonight against Columbus. It was a hard fought two games
on the road last weekend or over the weekend for
Seattle partner trying to get back in the win column
here tonight.

Speaker 5 (21:29):
How can they get that done?

Speaker 14 (21:31):
Well?

Speaker 5 (21:31):
We talked a lot about shots on goal over the weekend,
and I'm gonna start with shoot like you meet it,
no more polite. After you serve passing plays around the perimeter,
pucks to the net, bodies to the net, and make
sure their goalie feels like he's trying to catch Hale
with a salad bowl. Ugly goals count the same as
pretty ones, so let's get ugly. Secondly, win the board battles.

(21:52):
Columbus loves to grind along the walls, so the Cracking
need to show them who owns the walls tonight. Finish checks,
win pucks, and keep their wingers on permanent shoulder watching duty.
These boards are whole ice property, no trespassing, and then third,
protect the house. Keep the slot clean like it's Grandma's
living room with plastic on the furniture. No free looks,

(22:13):
no backdoor gifts, no slot muffins. If they want to
score it, they need to fill it a request form,
get two signatures and come back in four to six weeks.
Get into the cracking net. Needs to be a hurricanean
task tonight, and then in short shoot First, win the
grime battles and defend your crease like someone's trying to
steal your last beer from the fridge. Make these jackets
earn every inch of ice. If the cracking can play

(22:35):
with that mentality, Columbus will spend the night feeling like
they're trapped in the Nikeia with lots of effort, lots
of confusion, and nothing fits where it's supposed to. I
can I can see you've built ikea furniture. You know
what that's like?

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Like I can see the last my grandmother's Yeah, I
can smell it.

Speaker 16 (22:55):
Plastic kracking got.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Two really strong before its en goal from Matt Murray
and Philip Gribauer over the weekend. Matt Murray gonna go
here tonight again for Seattle against the Blue Jackets, who
were in Edmonton last night. They lost a tough one
for them. How important is a good start for Seattle
to take them out of this early?

Speaker 5 (23:17):
I mean, when you're facing a team that struggled like
this Blue Jackets team has, they're fighting some sickness, some allness,
it's really easy for excuses to creep in early in
the game, and no better way to make them start
to think about those excuses than putting one up early.
I say, the first five minutes of the game you
start to go, uh oh, here we go another night.
So that first goal is not only important, but you

(23:38):
want to get it as early as possible.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
A little lineup change tonight for Seattle. Berkeley Catton back
in the middle, Shane Wright moves over to the right
wing in along with Ellie Tolvenan on the other side
the left wing, so Blayne Lambert playing with a few
different combinations. The defenseman will stay the same here tonight
for Seattle, but another opportunity for Berkeley Catton, who now
goes in the game eleven and to really see what

(24:02):
he can do back at that center spot.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
Yeah, I mean we talked about it, but in the
crack of Weekly podcast. I like the way that Berkeley
Catten's been playing. I think that this team's just trying
to figure out where he slots best for his development.
But more than Berkeley Catten, I like Ellie Tolvenan's game lately.
He's I think he's averaging a point a game in November.
Right now, he's finally got off the schneid with a goal.
He's playing power play. But he was on fourth line

(24:25):
last game. So that tells you all the confidence that
the coaching staff has you.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Thanks Mike. It was a very hard fought split over
the weekend in Saint Louis in Dallas to get the
overtime win Saturday, come up just short Sunday down in Texas.
Just take us through this weekend and your thoughts and
the performances.

Speaker 18 (27:38):
Yeah, I thought we played well, you know, I said
after the Saint Louis game, what a difference a half
a second makes, you know, turned a potential loss into
a victory. And then you know, from the other end
of it, thought we could have had better. I guess
if you could it, you would have should.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Have kind of thing.

Speaker 18 (27:57):
But you know, we played very well in both of
those games, and you know, that's the consistency and the
effort that we're looking for. So pleased with that.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
In the Dallas game, at least from a press box
view for myself and Al, it seems like your team
did everything right except score that second goal in the game.
What did you make of what appeared to be a
probably the best defensive effort that we've seen the season.

Speaker 18 (28:24):
Yeah, well, I thought both games on the weekend were
really good defensively. You know, I think we kept shot
totals and we kept shot attempts down and we did
a really good job of that offensively. You're not wrong.
I mean, you know you're going to have You're going
to have nights I guess when you just can't solve

(28:45):
you know, the other goaltender, I thought he played well.
I thought our goalies both played well in both of
the games. And so you know, it was just one
of those things like we had enough opportunities to tie
the game. We certainly had enough opportunities to win the game.
It didn't work out. Sometimes those things are going to happen.
But my whole point to that is that if you
put yourself in that position every night, you'll come out

(29:07):
on the right end of the stick more often than
you won't. So you know, that's the message moving forward
for our hockey.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
