Speaker 3 (00:20):
It was another strong defensive effort for the Seattle Cracking
on Tuesday against Columbus. However, they ran into a hot
goalie for the second game in a row. Ryan Winterton
scored his second of the season and the rest of
his four f line led the way with the majority
of the great A scoring chances, but Jack Greeves was
stellar for the Jackets, protecting their.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Two to one win. Tonight, Seattle continues it's.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Three game homestam against the Winnipeg Jets, looking for a
repeat of the last time these two teams met, when
they pitched aight three nothing shutouts in one of the
toughest places to play in the entire National Hockey League.
Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen, welcome inside of Climate Player
Arena alongside Al Koniski. I am Everet FITZI. This is
Seattle Kraganaki on the Global Credit Union Cracking Audio Network.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Light two's Chill All the Kraken dropping a two to
one shootout decision on Tuesday against Columbus, the fourth line,
Ty Cart Shave, Ben Myers, Ryan Winterton leading the way
with the bulk.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Of the offensive chances and the lone goal.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
The Kraken got some good shots in overtime as well,
but at the end of the day for the third
time and their last four outings, only one goal to
show for it.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Yeah, you're right, that fourth line played fantastic first goal
the game. Always important Winterton gets that goal hit. Their
line had five shots on goal of the twenty four
in the game, so a good job by them.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
Hits.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
They had four of the hits on a fifteen so
fourth line doing exactly what they're supposed to do. Unfortunately,
there wasn't much more going offensively for the Crack and
offensively Laye Lambert talking this morning, a number of the players.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Talking as well about how they need to simplify things
a little bit. Also, Lane feeling this team needs to
be a little bit more selfish still a bit too
selective looking for that perfect pass rather than just taking.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
The shot on that.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Absolutely, and you know that's a shot preference, shot choice sometimes.
But Matt Murray had another great game as well, and
now he's gotten two in a row where we see
Philip Groupbauer tonight, and it puts a little pressure on
Philip Grubauer to have a great game tonight. He's his
counterpart has had a couple in a row where he's
played well enough to give his team a chance to win.
(02:32):
Philip Grupauer's got to do that. Here.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
On the other side of the red line, the Winnipeg Jets,
after starting nine and three, are one to three to
zero in their last four games, having been outscored twelve
to seven, two for fifteen on the power play, including
a four game power play goal drought that was snapped
last game. You've seen this a lot with some of
the top teams in the NHL. Now is when that
(02:54):
cooling off period starts in Winnipeg going through a bit
of a lull in their.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Schedule right now.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Absolutely, And you know, from what I can tell this
Jets team, they're twenty five zero to zero when scoring
four goals or more on the road that plays right
into the Krack and ten and that to the Krack
and have to keep bucks in their net. They do
with their defensive style. If they can keep this a
low event game from the Winnipeg Jets standpoint, it puts
them in the game to win it.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
A little bit of lineup shuffling today for the Seattle
Krack and Mason Marchmint being bumped up to the top
line with Matty Veneers and Jordan Eberley. Mason Marchmint only
one assists in his last ten games. Trying to get
him as well as the rest of that top nine
a forward group going here this evening. Mike Ben's in
back on the course, light Landing Section twenty standing by.

Mike Betton, with you back for the course. Light landing
in section twenty here at Climate Pledge Arena with a
Kraken facing a pretty stiff challenge this evening in Winnipeg
up to the go start. Yet so far their record
has seven to four and five nineteen points on the campaign,
standing first play or four points out of first place
in this right now, marking game two of their three
(07:15):
game homestand Winnipeg comes in ten and six twenty points
on the year, and then during a lengthy road trip
right now, game five of six on that trip, they
stand third place in the Central Division, three points back
of Dallas. The Kraken trying to improve on a three
six and four head to head record here against Winnipeg
and also the streak in the series. Looking to build
(07:36):
on that and win back to back games and get
their first home win in the series since December eighteenth
of twenty twenty two. Well, as far as this evening
is concerned, can the Kraken come out on the winning
end in low event fashion, because likely that's gotta be
the recipe here for a.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Game like this.
Speaker 11 (07:54):
In facing Winnipeg, they're looking to duplicate a lot of
elements which led to that three to nothing win they
had back their first matchup, also scoring two empty goals
and what was a pretty tight one with the Kracking
coming out on top. But against Winnipeg that's a high challenge.
These games are as close as they come. Nine times
for these matchups they've gone down to the one goal
(08:14):
variety and for the Crack, and that's tied with Calgary
for the most one goal games out of any opponent.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
As well, the Krack.
Speaker 11 (08:21):
Is also going to be doing this year without Jared
McCann and Freddie Gudreau, and that's a combined forty goals
from last season out of their lineup together, missing eleven games,
and the Kraken feeling those effects so far. Goals per
game thirty first in the league, two point five per
game five on five goals in the basement of the NHL,
they've had just twenty three so far. But defense wise,
(08:42):
that's a brighter picture. The Kraken goals against per game
eight best in the league, two point seven per game
five on five goals allowed second best just twenty five.
Plus they've also only given up one five on five
goal over the course of the last two games, and
also pairing that with gold attending that's kept the Kraken
in games or won them flat out because they've had
(09:04):
no enjoy to cord since last Wednesday, the Matt Murray
stepping up nine two six say percent engine four games,
and Philip Grubauer, who starts this evening more on that
in a bit. He beat Saint Louis sixteen saves last
weekend as well. For the Kraken, coming off a two
to one shootout loss to Columbus on Tuesday, where Matt
Murray simply played really as good as you can get
(09:26):
without getting a victory. Also, Ryan Winterton the only Kraken
goal scorers, scoring in his second straight home game, but
the turning point and that one Columbus scoring a five
on three goal late in period two, which made special
teams a big difference here, the Kraken coming up empty
on two power play chances and Columbus going one of four,
giving Jet Greeves a win in net twenty two saves
(09:48):
on twenty three shots, despite Murray's best efforts where he
turned in a thirty three save effort. So the Kraken
trying to bounce back this evening. Our storyline's opening up
with generating Moore Sean soon and as Zeby written now
talked about head coach Lane Lambert said he wants a
team to play with a little more of a selfish
approach and don't pass up shots because as of right now,
the Crack in twenty eighth in the league at twenty
(10:11):
five per game. In essence, again, it's just all about
getting more pucks on net. Here's Brandon Montor, who had
nine shot attempts on Tuesday on that part of the
game plan In my.
Speaker 13 (10:22):
Mindset, I think I'm shoot first regardless, you know, if
there's an open guy wide open. But it's I mean again,
from the blue line. It's tough. You know, necessarily you
just want traffic to the net. So I think our ability,
you know, we need traffic. A lot of goals are
scored in those those little areas close to the nets.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
So I think you just.
Speaker 13 (10:40):
Taken example of wins Carts and Misi last game. They
played well, they created a lot, but they're taking it
to the net, and we obviously don't have much of
that lately. But we've got to kind of hard to
kind of follow that. And you know, you gotta it's
it's gonna hurt. It's gonna be hard, but you know
it's gotta be a rewarding So.
Speaker 11 (10:59):
The krack and have to embrace the hurt and embrace
how hard it's gonna be. They're also gonna go with
Philip Grubauer and net our second story line and the
big question here, can he follow suit from Matt murray
strong effort and now grab back to back wins. His
last game sixteen saves out of nineteen at Saint Louis
four to three, overtime win and against the Jets all
time three five and one in nine games. Our third
(11:22):
story line, Matty Beniers is line getting a shuffle, Mason
Marshmint new line May on the left wing, Jordan Neberley
back with him on the right wing. First time all
year those three paired together as a trio. So can
this light a spark? But here's looking for to build
on what's been a dry spell of no goals in
one point last four games. May some marsh Mint no
goals since opening night and Jordan Neberley just one point
(11:45):
over the last four games. Let's do more from the
Kraken side and looking for more offense doesn't mean that
you abandoned defense. And just ask them and Brandon Montur
said today where the defense is coming from right here?
Speaker 13 (11:57):
Yeah, big time saves obviously when you needed. You know,
we're playing solid defensively. It's the five man group that
plays tight, doesn't give much, you know, us the rush
end zone, you keep them to the outside, and I
feel like we try to make it as easy as
possible for the goalies to see pucks. And you know,
I think we're doing a good group, good job as
(12:18):
a group.
Speaker 11 (12:19):
Shane rites a natural center, but he'll play on the
right wing again with Berkeley Catton in the middle, and
still a new territory here for right who said the
move helps them in new areas be a.
Speaker 14 (12:29):
Little more free offensively obviously a little less responsibility in
the d zoning. He'll really just kind of a push
pace offensively. Really, you'll push to make plays, and you'll
transition offense a little quicker, and uh, you'll play more
World War free there.
Speaker 11 (12:44):
Freddie Goodrow, Jared McCann still on IR. Joey to Core

The line with Winnipeg at minus one forty five heading

(15:16):
back at Climbing Pledgerina and time now for a look
at Winnipeg. And we said three points back, they're now
five points back of Dallas who beat Montreal seven to nothing.
But still for the Jets, same old song and dance
with their personnel. They make you battle for every inch
on the ice. They get a lead and they don't
let go forty three percent of the time they have
let in games this season. Only Colorado and Carolina are better.
(15:40):
There's no regression based on at least those talks from
this past season. Potentially ten and six record underhead coach
Scott ar'neil and defensively, they have been dialed in two
point six goals alap per game, six best in the league,
fifth best, penalty kill eighty six percent, and they block
a ton of shots sixteen per game, second in the NHL. Offensively,
(16:02):
Mark Scheifflee leads to charge twenty one points on the campaign.
Goals wise, he's got nine, tied with Kyle Connor and
Connor as well one of the game's most underrated forwards.
You could argue points wise nineteen second on the Jets. Already,
he's got two shorthanded goals. Jonathan Taves solid start in
New Digs eight points in sixteen games, and Connor Hellibuck
(16:23):
owning the fourth best say percentage in the league. The
Jets their road trip, it's.
Speaker 17 (16:27):
A long one.
Speaker 11 (16:28):
In six games they are one to three. They had
struggled to score previously before Tuesday just two goals in
three games, but erupted last game out five to three
to their win over the Vancouver Canucks, breaking a three
game skit. Your Jet story lines first up again with
returns in their lineup. Defenseman Dilvan Samberg. He's back from
a broken wrist. This is going to be a season debut.
(16:50):
Fifth year coming up as well. He had twenty points
in sixty games last year as a usual shutdown defenseman.
Also Gustav Nyquist, previously out on disclosed ailment. He's aiming
for his first goal of the season and back in
there as well. Second storyline, Connor Hellibucks starting a net
last game against the Kraken. Very strong, twenty five saves
(17:10):
on twenty six shots, and he has been very hard
to handle here in this matchup seven games, owning a
four and two record nine to one, six a percentage.
Let's hear more from Winnipeg and here's Samberg, who is
finally out of a yellow non contact jersey and a
big guy at six foot four, mind you, and he
shared more on what he's been looking forward to.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
I'm sick called big bird out there, so yeah, no,
it's going to get a regular jersey in there and
get back to regular reps. Honestly, just keep it simple,
especially in that first period communicate obviously leading my partner
a little bit. Just get back into the rhythm of
things and just get the timing down and hopefully from.
Speaker 11 (17:49):
There locals, Well what a sound by Samberg's defensive partner
is Neil Peonk and said, how they react together is
kind of like second nature.
Speaker 18 (17:58):
Yeah, it's just a national chemistphy. Like I said, it's
it's uh reading off each other. You know, he knows
where I'm going, I know where he's going for the
most part, and uh, you know we have that, we
have that natural chemistry between passes, between reads on des
on coverage.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
And stuff like that.
Speaker 18 (18:11):
It's uh so I think that'll will help each other
out for both days.

Game two of this three game homestand win a peg
in town for their second of three meetings on the season,
following a two to one loss at a shootout to
Columbus SUO. Actually right now, partner, twelve minutes left in
the third period, Columbus five to two at home over Edmonton.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
So they're playing some good hockey right now, and the
Oilers oil Country maybe sounding the alarm here in a
little bit.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Crack it one goal four and three of their last
four games. Try to generate similar offense defensively, I don't
think you can play much better than they've been playing
in their.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Last week or so.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
What do they have to do here tonight to shut
down a potent offense just like they did in their
building about two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Well, first, you need a first class start.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
The Jets are dangerous when they get comfy early, so
the krackt need to make them miserable right from the gate,
hit hound and harassed. Turn that first period into a
middle seat between two crying babies. Secondly, win the blue
paint battle. Both teams crash the cage hard, but this
one's about who owns the real estate in front of
that net. The Kraken have to plant their flag, block
(21:37):
out the sun and make Winnipeg's goal they wished he
called in six sick. And then third, four line fury
depth is the Kraken's edge. Roll all four lines, keep
the Jets chasing, and don't let them breathe. By the
third period, they should look like they just ran the
TSA gauntlet late for a flight in full gear. To
clip the Jets' wings, the Kraken need to come out
(21:58):
like snakes on a plane.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
No comfort, no snacks, and absolutely.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
No smooth sailing. It's gonna take grit, grind in a
bit of turbulence, but that's how you ground a team
from the peg. By the end of this one, expect
the Jets to be big for an early boarding pass home.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
They're so vivid.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
I picture every single one of them, the big the
elephant in the room.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
We discussed it earlier, the offense.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
John Forsland joining Mike Betton earlier today on Cracking this morning,
and I think he offered a really interesting perspective in
that defensively, this team is fine. We knew coming in
you were gonna have this type of year. You yourself
have even said, once you get McCann and Freddye gatroll back,
that's forty goals from last year back in the lineup,
should we be pushing that panic button offensively? Or as
(22:45):
long as your defense continues to be in the top
eight in the NHL, things are fun.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I mean if you said to me eighty two games
this season and the majority of them, we're gonna keep
opposing teams to two goals or less. But you gotta
do your part of the other end. Sometimes it's scoring
more than two in regulation. Sometimes it's taking it to
overtime where you end up with at least a point.
I like those odds. I like those odds rather than hey,
it could be wide open one night and you're gonna
have to score five to win five to four. You know.
(23:12):
So this defense first structure that this team has, it
can be frustrating to fans at times, but if you
just hold on and understand that when the scoring opportunities come,
they're gonna take advantage of them. If that means that
they only get single digital shots on goal in the
first second or the third period.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
What do you make of Laye Lambert the other day
saying that he wants this team to be a little
bit more selfish. It's okay to maybe not look to
pass first, but if you have that lane going to
the net again, maybe that load of high play get
bucks on net.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Yeah. I like that.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
I like the thought process of getting pucks on net
when there's traffic there. You're not gonna typically score against
a goaltender who can see your shot from the point,
but when there's traffic there, get it on net. As
far as taking pucks to the net, well, we saw
Ben Myers do that last game. He did it once,
got a great shot on goal. He did a second
time and got a penalty upon it. To both Ben
Myers about it, as well as asked Lean Lambert about
(24:03):
it in a scrum the other day. Leon Lambert said,
I don't like offensive penalties two hundred feet from our nett,
but I'll kill that one off all all night because
he's taking the puck to the net. He's causing havoc.
And I talked to Ben Myers about it and wanted
to know, Hey, what did the coaches say, he said,
you're okay with it.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Ben Myers arguably the best skater for the Kraken on
Tuesday night in that loss to Columbus. You know who's

to Lane Lambert right now standing by with ever it
fits you.
Speaker 20 (26:54):
Thank you, Michael Lane cracking falling to one the other
night to the Blue Jackets in the game in which,
once again defensively, the structure was there. You said in
your postgame press conference that you'd like to see more
offense generated. Just take us through another strong defensive performance
that ultimately ended up in one point against the Jackets.
Speaker 24 (27:16):
Yeah. Yeah, it was a good hockey game. You know.
We we did generate some things. We generated a lot
of shot attempts and have the last three games.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
You know.
Speaker 24 (27:29):
But the one thing that we're you know, one thing
we're not doing, or the one thing we're noticing, is
we're you know, and I say fraction to the facts,
and I really do mean that, you know, tenth of
a second or you know, twentieth of a second, and
all of a sudden, you know they get a stick
on the buck and we've had the attempts, but I
think you know, in the last three games we probably
(27:50):
had forty eight percent of those shot attempts actually reached
the nets. So you certainly decrease your chances of scoring
a goal if the buck go on. My dad told
me when I was five years old, son hit the net.
Speaker 20 (28:05):
One word that's kind of been thrown around the last
few days in the locker room, AMNKST players has just
been simplifying, whether that's simplifying their individual game, simplifying the
offensive approof.
Speaker 11 (28:15):
