Speaker 1 (00:01):
Thank you, Mike Lane. A very rare one nothing shootout
loss for the Crack and on Sunday to wrap up
that road trip. Overall, you get five of eight points,
you have a couple of come from behind victories, a
lot of positives on that four game.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Trek out east.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Just take us through your thoughts on the last eight
days for Seattle and your your breakdown and assessment of
that road trip.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, I mean, it didn't start off the way we
wanted to in Detroit, you know, and and I thought
from there we did a good job of regrouping, you know,
coming back with a couple of comeback wins in the
third period, and you know, both Chicago and Pittsburgh, and
then like you said, you know, the the Islander game was.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
It was that back to back. It was a short
turnaround for us.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
I thought our goaltender played it excellent, deserved the shutout,
got the shout out. You know, they don't take away
a shutout if you get scored on in a shootout.
But certainly I thought, you know, for the most part,
I thought we played pretty good. There's certainly some areas
we can clean up. I thought the Islanders had too
many rush chances.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Honest.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
The other night, at the quarter pole of the season,
where Seattle is now tied for second in the division,
what would you make of this team? What's your assessment
of where you guys are based on your expectations coming
into the year and where you see this team moving forward?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, for me anyway, personally, expectations are always high.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
If you set the bar low, you will go low.
And you know our bar said high right from the
get go.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I've always said there's a way to win every game,
and there is, you know, I think our guys have
done a real good job of being.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Dialed in for the most part.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
We've had a couple of I guess what you could
call stinker games, but those happen. You know, you don't
want them to happen, but it's just sometimes there's just
no getting around it. You know, you can probably take
a handful of games over the course of the year
before the season starts and going, man, we're not going
to be very good in about five of them, just
because you know, and it's just the way it is.
It's a long season. So I think we've done a
(02:14):
pretty good job of embracing you know what.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Kind of an end do we want.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
And you know, we've done a pretty good job of
being in every game and battling through every game and
understanding the importance of each each second of a game.
And I think that's valuable moving forward for not only
for our team, but also for you know, the young
players and the development of them. You know a lot
of times that's a mentality development as well, and having
(02:42):
to understand and realize how difficult every game and every
second of every game is super important for me from
their standpoint of development. So I think we've made some
decent progress. Again, it's only a quarter point, and you
know the next next month is going to be critical,
and really, you know, December January is going to be
I just think it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Tied all the way through.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Defense continues to be one of this team's calling cards.
You look at your last ten games, you've allowed two
or fewer goals, and six you've allowed three or fewer goals,
and eight. We talk a lot about how we can
get more offense going, but do you take any solace
in the fact is it comforting to know that, even
if the offense isn't coming as much as we would like,
we're still second ranked in goals against, and we still
(03:25):
are able to limit a lot of what teams are doing.
Does it give you any any solace in that fact?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well, this is why we have the record we have,
because we've committed to that area, you know, and eventually,
you know, once once the offense sort of piggybacks off
it a little bit more. I'm not saying it hasn't.
We're our record's pretty good right now. You know, you
can win games to one. We're proving that they'll still
(03:50):
go up in the W column. And you know, again,
there's a lot of benefits to playing those types of
games too, playoff type games. So you know, I think
that we take a lot of solace in the fact
that where we are defensively in the league.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Dallas last night a big eight three win in Edmonton.
They're on the second half of the back to back.
I'm assuming starting on time and getting off to a
good start going to be big for your group here tonight.
But also, what else do you feel Seattle needs to
do here tonight? It was a heartbreaking two to one
loss in their building two weeks ago, whatever it was.
How can the Kraken get some revenge from that and
(04:28):
capitalize on the fact that maybe the Stars team might
be a little bit tired coming off that back to back.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Well, you know what if you look at the minutes
that they played last night, and that's one of the
bonuses I guess of you know, being up five to
nothing or six nothing or whatever it was, and you know,
ending eight three. None of their players got taxed last night.
The minutes were very low for everybody. You know, this
isn't I guess, in my opinion, it is a back
(04:56):
to back for them because they came in and they
got in late, but they weren't taxed by the Edmonton
Oilers last night, you know, in terms of their minutes.
So you know, it's maybe not your quote unquote true
back to back for them. You know, our game plan
doesn't change anyway. We do have to have a good start.
I think we have to have a better start that
we had on you know, on the road, and I
(05:17):
think that, you know, we have to continue with our theme.
They've got some players that can hurt you. They've got
a power play that's number two in the league. It
was three for four last night in Edmonton. Rant in
his back. You know, ice can in you know, they've
got Sagan, They've just got a ton of weapons there. Offensively,
we've got to make sure that we do our best
(05:38):
to shut those guys down and you know, attack offensively
for us. Let's let's play in their zone and you know,
be hard to play against in their zone as well
as being hard to play against in our own zone.
