You were listening to Sports on Deckwith Dave Gasper. Welcome to Sports on
Deck with Dave Gasper here on thirteenten WIBA. I am Dave Gasper.
You can follow me on Twitter atde Gasper twenty four Lots to get to
on the show today. The Brewershaving a wild week here on their homestand

(00:31):
they brought the Cubs into town forfour games. They took three of four,
which he absolutely loved to see forthe Brewers. And now they get
the Chicago White Sox for the weekendhere before they go back out on the
road where they're going to take onPhiladelphia Phillies. But more on that later
and who the Brewers might be gettingback for that series later on here in
the show. First, though, the big story really of the entire week

(00:57):
has been Craig Council and just whathe what he received from Brewers fans in
his return to American Family Field, which is what we all expected. It
was booing. It was loud, continuous booing of Craig Counsel. Every single
time we talked about this before,He's gonna get booed regularly, mercilessly,

(01:22):
and sure enough it came to pass. The energy, especially a Memorial Day
when you had a sellout crowd, the energy was incredible. Everyone was ready
to boo. Everyone came in.I was looking around. I saw a
shirts that said Craig Clounseil saw ashirt that said We'll never forget you Greg,

(01:44):
all these other things. One thatsaid count sellout. Lots of different
shirts and signs. I saw onesign comparing him to Judas Brutus and Benedict
Arnold, putting Counsel in that categoryof people the most famous traders in human
history. So yeah, you couldsay Brewers fans were a little upset about

(02:08):
Craig Council and how things went. And really the interesting part of that whole
situation there on Memorial Day, withthe pregame stuff, pregame situation, the
tribute video before the game, youkind of figured, Okay, are they

(02:28):
going to do a tribute video? Are they not? Maybe they shouldn't because
you know of how things went. There's bad blood here and the Brewers fans
and Brewers don't really seem to likehim very much after what he did,
So are they actually going to doa tribute video? And they did?
They did, all right, Sothey do a little thirty seconds tribute video,

(02:50):
couple of Craig Council highlights and whatnotand a little thank you Craig thing,
and immediately after that starts rolling. The booze come in from the crowd
immediately, and look, we allknew this was going to happen. Okay,
we did, and I think theBrewers knew this was going to happen
too. They knew we're going toplay a tribute video for Council and it's

(03:14):
going to be booed heavily. Weknow this, and we're gonna do it
anyways, we're gonna invite it.And was it out of class? Was
it classiness that caused the Brewers tobe like, you know what, we're
still going to do a tribute videofor the one playoff series that Craig Council
helped us win during his nine yeartenure. Is that why they did it?

(03:36):
Or did the Brewers play this tributevideo want to kind of, you
know, show to the independent observers. Okay, a little bit of class
there, but two and more importantly, to give Brewers fans the opportunity to
boo their hearts out at Craig Councilfor an extended period of time. Maybe

(03:57):
that's part of the thinking too, because how many chances do you get to
boo a manager during game. It'snot like he's coming up to the plate
a couple of times every single everysingle game where you get to boo him
for the entire at bat. It'snot like he's going out to the field
every time a ball comes towards him. You get to boo him every single
time he touches the ball. It'snot like that when he's the manager.

(04:24):
Now, when Manny Machada was gettingbooed regularly, you could do that because,
okay, look he's gonna come upto bat, you're gonna boo him
the entire at bat every time aball goes his way. You're gonna boo
him during that. Like you getyour opportunities to boo him regularly. For
a manager, you could go awhole game and council could never step out
of the dugout outside of you know, the national anthem. You can make

(04:47):
those pitching changes between innings. Youdon't have to do it mid inning.
He doesn't have to step out forthat. Of course, he did a
couple of times in this series. He doesn't have to step out to our
argue with umpires. He doesn't haveto step out and ask for challenges.
You could go a whole game andthe manager never steps out of the dugout.
So what chance do you have toget your boos in and make your

(05:10):
feelings known towards Council? The threeseconds during lineup intros when they announced and
the Cubs are managed by Craig Council, and that's it, that's your only
chance to boo him potentially. SoI think the Brews played that tribute video
as a chance to give the fansthat extended chance to boo and basically say

(05:35):
what they were feeling there towards Gregand make their feelings don't and get it
out and give them that kind ofsatisfaction. Because everyone came into that stadium,
even if you weren't, you know, one of the heavy booers,
even if you were appreciative of whatCouncil did during his time in Milwaukee,

(05:55):
everyone wanted that boo. Everyone wantedthe chance to boo him for that,
and everyone really wanted to win.So I think what you do is,
yeah, you play that tribute video. You give them that chance because they're
not booing the Brewers for playing thetribute video. They're booing, Craig.
The upset feelings are not at theBrewers for playing the video. That's not

(06:15):
what it is. It's a council. It's all directed at council. Then
he's then he's talking postgame about howhis tribute video was short, and you
know he's he's telling fans it's like, look, I don't care what you
what you do, cheer, boowhatever, man, just have fun at
the game. He doesn't care.He doesn't care at all. But then

(06:38):
you know, you still have thosethose little kinds of shots. You know,
it's being like, oh, thattribute video wasn't very long. You
want it longer, Craig. Trywinning more than one playoff series. Try
not going one to nine in yourlast ten playoff games. That's how you
get a longer tribute video. Trynot going to the Cubs. That's how

(07:01):
you get a longer tribute video. If you went to the New York Mets,
no one would cared. You wouldhave gotten cheered when you came to
town. Be like okay, yeah, okay, yeah, I took the
money, went to New York Metback up with Sterns. Fine, whatever.
But when you go to the Cubs, they're compared to Judas and Brutus

(07:23):
and Benedict Arnold. That's how it'sgonna go. And look, you know,
even all those posts and failures aside, I mean this is not to
say that Council's a bad manager. You know, he's made some bad decisions
from time to time, every manager, really does, you know, he
still was a good manager. He'smade some tough bullpen decisions here though,

(07:45):
especially during this series, goes tothe bullpen immediately bullpen gets rocked after his
starters were you know, throwing shutouts, seven shoutout innings from him. Then
all of a sudden goes to thebullpen and what do you know, the
Brewers offense comes to life. Crazyhow that happens, right, Just crazy?

(08:05):
And I Managa gets lit up onWednesday. That was also beautiful to
see. But if I'm Craig Counsel, I think I'm definitely reevaluating this whole
situation because Counsel maybe thought it wasit was fine, it wasn't gonna be
as big of a deal. Youknow, he's like cheer boo whatever.
Very optimistic of you to think thatanyone is going to cheer, very optimistic,

(08:31):
can still claim you're the hometown guyand you know you're still from here,
still live here. Whatever. Andlook, Pat Murphy too, when
he was talking about this, wastalking about how, you know, Counsel
is a good guy. I've seenthe others. I've seen a different side
of them than you guys have. And you know he loves this, this
community, this states all this kindof nice stuff. Murphy's going to be

(08:52):
saying all sorts of nice things abouthim. He doesn't have any animosity towards
Counsel, especially since Council's leaving finallygot him a manager job. But for
Murphy, for Council, they're kindof looking at it as as just kind
of another game. I mean, they knew the media hype and they knew
what the reaction was going to be. And the players fed off of that

(09:15):
too. I mean, William Domaswas saying that, you know, like
the like the fans brought it alittle extra for this just because of Council,
and we love that. The playersloved it. Players loved that kind
of energy, that kind of atmosphere. They feed off of it. A
Domis fed off of it with hishome run there in the eighth inning to

(09:35):
really put the Brewers way out infront of the Cubs. Maybe that game
an instant classic, by the way, instant classic. But a damis coming
through, William Contreras coming through. Finally, get into that Cubs bullpen.
You force counsel to come out, make a pitching change. Guess what,

(09:56):
he gets booed again. Also,we got to give some flowers here to
Robert Gasser. Robert Gasser absolutely phenomenalin a huge game, at the fourth
start of his career. He ispitching in the biggest game, the biggest
atmosphere that he has ever pitched it. You got to sell out crowd a
Memorial Day with an entire crowd thathates your opponent, especially your opponent's manager.

(10:22):
They desperately want to win this game. Out of all one hundred and
sixty two games this season, Brewisfans wanted that one the most. Even
if the Brews went one and onehundred and sixty one this season, if
they only won one game all year, if they won that game, the
Council reunion game of an orthit,I don't know about worth it, but

(10:46):
still it would have felt good.It would have felt really good to win
just that one. There's one gamehe had to win all year and maybe
the whole series, you know, maybe, you know, just winning that
whole series all year. Bruce tookthree of four, so they get a
series win. They could have hada sweep. And if it wasn't for
a robbed home run there by CodyBellinger on Tuesday and a comebacker hitting Trevor

(11:13):
McGill right in the arm, couldhave changed things, really could have changed
things. But still Brews won theseries. They get to that kind of
satisfaction over Craig Council. They pushedthe Cubs down in the third place in
the NL Central. That's another lovelysite to see. The unfortunate site to
see is that that means the Sat. Louis Cardinals are not moved up into

(11:35):
second place. Cardinals have been ona hot stretch, and I'm not not
exactly a huge fan of the Cardinalscoming up and being in second, but
look, if the Cubs aren't goingto be in second, someone's got to
be. The Pirates sure as hellaren't going to be getting there. Cincinnati
Reds have been playing like crap. They're not getting there, So I guess
it ends up being the Cardinals.Coming up, we'll get more into to

(12:00):
the Brewers and some of the injuriesthat they got and some guys that are
gonna be coming back as well. You're listening to Sports on Deck with Dave
Gasper here in thirteen ten, WIBA. Welcome back to Sports on Deck with

(12:28):
Dave Gasper here on thirteen ten,WIBA. I am, of course Dave
Gasper. Let's get to on theshow here still including coming up studs and
duds for the month of May forthe Milwaukee Brewers. That it's gonna be
a lot of fun, like todo that every single month, and that's
gonna be coming up lots of studsfor Milwaukee. The Brewers have been continuing

(12:50):
to play well as they've opened upa massive lead in the National League Central
here at the two month mark. But before we get into stuff uds and
duds, we got to talk abouta couple other guys that have been,
you know, in the news, starting with Reee Hoskins. So, Reee
Hoskins's been on the injured list fora couple of weeks hamstring strain, all

(13:15):
right, So when when that happened, Everyone's like, oh no, what's
what's it? Gonna be. Butwasn't that bad just a couple of weeks,
about two to four weeks, andyou know, he's gonna be coming
back around the three ish week markfor for Hoskins. And he's been doing
some running. He's been doing somebase running and doing drills and hitting and
fielding and doing all the stuff theyneeds to and it's looking like he is

(13:39):
going to come back, if notat some point this weekend, it's going
to be early next week when theseries against Philadelphia starts. And that is
important to Reese Hoskins to be backfor that. It's important to Philadelphia to
be back with that because as youknow, as most of us baseball fans,

(14:03):
no, Reee Hoskins was with thePhillies to start his career. They
let him go in free agency andthe Brewers picked him up. So this
is his homecoming sort of, youknow, this is his reunion with Philadelphia,
And unlike Craig Council, Reese Hoskinsis going to get cheered when he

(14:24):
goes back there because Hoskins is absolutelybeloved in Philly. Philly didn't really want
to let him go. The fansdidn't want to let him go. They
understood why though the team did notmake him a qualifying offer, they announced,
hey, we are moving Bryce Harperto first base, So Reese Hoskins

(14:48):
is no longer in our plans. He tore his ACL last year, missed
the entire season. That was,you know, an unfortunate way for his
Phillies' tenure to end, but theyended on good terms. Philly loved him,
He loved Philly, and he's goingto go back there and he is
going to get a standing ovation. He is going to tip his cap and

(15:11):
it is going to be a warmreception where you just want to hug yourself.
You just want to hug yourself. It's it's so heartwarming. That's what
Reese Hoskins is going to have whenhe gets back there. So that's his
plan to be back in time forPhilly for that series. Now, whether

(15:31):
he needs rehab assignment, which wouldprobably only be like a game or so
this weekend, you know as ofnow that that hasn't really been determined.
But for Hoskins, he doesn't reallywant to go on a rehabit signment.
He kind of wants to just comestraight on back. So I could see
him coming back if not this weekend. If he's not activated this weekend,

(15:52):
he's going to be activated ahead ofthat Philly series and he's going to be
out there on the field for thethose games, and he is going to
get the warm homecoming that he's beenlooking forward to and that Philly fans have
been looking forward to because a lotof Philly fans bought tickets for that series

(16:14):
because Hoskins is coming back and theywanted to see him, and they want
to cheer him on and let himknow that they love them. It is
the city of brotherly love. Phillydoes tend to boo people a lot,
though they do. They booed SantaClaus in Philadelphia, so they're not shy
of booing anybody. But they loveHoskins, they do. He is not

(16:37):
one who is going to get booedthere. It wasn't really his choice to
leave, you know, he didn'thave any animosity towards them. So Hoskins
is going to get his nice, warm homecoming, and yeah, it's gonna
be great, he really is.I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking
forward to getting Hoskins back in thislineup. Now. I'm curious to see
if Hoskins hits a home run. What are Phillies fans gonna do. Are

(16:59):
they going to cheering me like, hey, Hoskins overt Oh wait, that's
actually not good for us anymore. And then are they gonna boo him?
Are they gonna go, oh no, now he's gone yard off of us?
Come on, Reese. I don'tknow. We'll see either way,
it's gonna be a lot of funfor all those guys involved. So Hoskins
and you know, with him comingback, you know he can continue his

(17:21):
his hitting ways and he can tryto get paid this offseason, because that's
the thing, because he was comingoff that ACL tear last year. He
signs a modified Pillow contract with theBurgers. You know, it's a two
year deal with a mutual option fora third, but an opt out after
the first. So really it's aone year deal. If Hoskins plays well,

(17:41):
as long as he doesn't, youknow, miss most of the season
with injury, he is going toopt out and he is going to try
and find a bigger long term contracton the market once again. This offseason
and the way that he's been playing, he's certainly trending that way. So
Hoskins, you're looking at it ata one year thing here and a Damis.

(18:03):
Williadamas is also in his last yearnow, he's in arbitration. The
Dominas is earning twelve twelve and aquarter million this year, final year of
arbitration. He's gonna be hitting thefree agent market this winner, provided he's
not traded first. But either way, he's gonna be hitting the market this
winner, and a Damis is gonnaget paid. Man, he's gonna get

(18:27):
paid. And it's not gonna beby the Brewers. I hope you know
that if you're holding out hope thatyou know, hey, maybe the Brewers
could actually you know, swing somethingand they'll they'll extend expend for Williadamas.
He's having a good walk year rightnow. You know. It's hitting like
two sixty something his ops, hisbackground eight hundred, he's hitting homers,

(18:48):
he's getting on base, he's doingall these things that when the Brewers first
got him back in twenty twenty one, maybe the Brewers will actually pony up
the money and extend him. No, no, it's not happening. He's
not coming back. Willia Domas isnot gonna be on this team next year.
That much is I can practically guaranteeyou. I can bet every dollar

(19:12):
I got that Willie Domas is notgonna be in a Brewers uniform in twenty
twenty five. He will not be. You have replacements on the roster.
You have Bryce Terrang, you havejoe Yortez. They are young, they
are pre arbitration, so they arecheap, and they are good. Or

(19:34):
Teas has been good, Terrang hasbeen good. Both of them can play
a mean defensive shortstop. They canplay just as good a defensive shortstop as
a Domis. That's gonna be theroute that the Brewers go. They're gonna
let a Domis go. They'll givehim a qualifying offer, they'll get a
draft pick him return when he signsfor more than fifty million dollars elsewhere,

(19:57):
because he's gonna get more than fiftymillion do. You may have your complaints
about his strikeouts or his low battingaverages the last couple of years. You
can complain about that all you want, But the bottom line is a Damas
is an above average defender and anabove average hitter at a premium position.
You don't have too many guys whoare above average both offensively and defensively.

(20:21):
At shortstop. A Damis is aproven borderline elite shortstop defensively and an above
average offensive presence at the position. Can give you around an eight hundred something
ops. He can give you power. He's got the most power of any
shortstop in the league. So Adamisis going to get paid. He is

(20:47):
going to get well in excess ofone hundred million dollars. He's going to
get maybe around one hundred and fiftymillion dollars on the free agent market.
He's getting paid, and the Brewersare not going to be the ones to
do it. Absolutely not. You'regonna hear no rumblings of the Brewers trying
to have any sort of talks withthe Damas at all. It's not happening.
They're not going to go that route. Plus another thing helping a Damas,

(21:15):
who are the other elite shortstops onthe market right now, who's going
to be an elite free agent shortstopthis year outside of a Damas who nobody
Tim Anderson was going to be wasset to be the other big name to
be on the market this year.He got non tendered last offseason. He's

(21:36):
signed a one year, five milliondollar deal with the Miami Marlins, and
he's awful. His stats have gotteneven worse this year somehow. So Tim
Anderson's a non factor in the shortstopmarket. The only other potential starting option
at shortstop is Hassan and Kim ofthe Padres. But he's also spent a

(22:00):
lot of time at second base,at third base, you know, as
well as shortstop. Someone he canreally kind of play all over. He's
not settled into being that starting everydayshortstop. Plus he doesn't have the offensive
prowess that a Damis can have,so hasan. Kim is more of a
backup option, a plan B ifa team can't afford a Damis, or

(22:23):
is unwilling to afford a Domins,or they just simply lose out on him
in the sweepstakes. So Adamis isyour top shortstop on the free agent market.
The Brewers ain't signing them. Someteams they could right now if I'm
looking at it, the two teamsthat stick out to me are the Dodgers

(22:47):
and the Giants. The Dodgers haveenough money that they could buy France.
I mean, they could buy whateverthey wanted with it with as much money
as they got. They already prettymuch did that when when they got Otani
for seven hundred million dollars. Thenthey got Yamamoto for another three hundred sums,
so the Dodgers can certainly afford it. Right now, they got Mookiy
Betts at shortstop. I mean,Mookie Betts is a superstar player, but

(23:15):
him at shortstop is kind of anemergency thing because they don't have anyone else
Corey Seeger left and they don't reallyhave an adequate replacement at shortstop. Bets
has been an outfielder for most ofhis career, then he moved back to
second base. Now he's being movedback over to shortstop. And I mean,
I think the Dodgers would prefer tohave Bets elsewhere, maybe either back
in the outfield or back at secondbase. And you can get a truly

(23:37):
elite defender at shortstop in Willie Domas, and they could offer him the money
easily, and Adamas would still bea positive in their lineup. Now he
wouldn't be, you know, athree four hitter in their lineup, because
I mean they're pretty stacked over there. But still he could give you an
eight hundred ops and be an elitedefender at shortstop and they got the money

(23:59):
to give it to him. SoRos are one team I'm looking at,
and the San Francisco Giants are another. Right now. They got a mess
at shortstop as well. They gotMarco Luciano, a top prospect, he's
not doing much. They got BrettWisely or some dude, some wise guy,
I don't know what his name evenis. As they're starting shortstop right

(24:19):
now. They have an opening atshort and they have money to burn.
They have been trying to get somebig stars to sign there the last couple
of years, and no one wantsto. They can't get a deal done
with anyone. They finish in secondplace for every free agent they pursue.

(24:41):
They could land it. They havethe money to land a Damas. Now
does a Damas want to go toa place where it basically sucks for hitters?
Yeah? Maybe not, but theycould offer him money. And they
have a need at shortstop and whereelse are they going to find their fix
at short Domas is the top guyin the free agent market. They've been

(25:03):
trying to get top guys the pastseveral years. Domas makes a lot of
sense for the Giants, makes alot of sense for the Dodgers too.
So those are the two teams thathave the money, that have the need
that I'm looking for in the AdamisSweepstakes because he's gonna get paid. It's
not gonna be by Milwaukee next year. It's gonna between Terraang and Ortiz for

(25:23):
that starting shortstop job. Coming up, Studs and duds for the Brewers in
the month of May. That's comingup right here on Sports on Deck with
Dave Gasper on thirteen ten wib A. Welcome back to Sports on Deck with

(25:51):
Dave Gasper here on thirteen ten wib A. I am Dave Gasper.
It is that time. We havereached the end of May and now the
beginning of June, and that meanswe have to give our studs and duds
for the month of May for theMilwaukee Brewers. And you know, it's

(26:11):
been a pretty good month for forMilwaukee. I'm just gonna say they're still
in first place. They are upby five games in the NL Central.
They're keeping steady from their pace thatthey set in March and April with their
winning ways and staying up on topin the division. Run differential way up.

(26:40):
You love to see so that meansthere have been a lot of guys
that are playing like studs, andthat is what studs and duds is all
about. I mean, there area couple of guys that have been duds,
not too many. We got acouple more studs than we have duds
this month. But let's get intoit with Stud number one for the month

(27:03):
of May. Stud number one isJoey Ortez, the Brewer's News starting third
baseman for the month of May orOver the last thirty days here, Joey
Ortiz has been hitting two ninety sixwith a nine to fifty five ops,

(27:23):
six doubles, four homers, atriple, eleven RBIs, eight walks.
Joey Ortiz has been phenomenal. Hehas taken over the starting third base job
from four of the Milwaukee burs.It was really kind of up for grabs
coming into spring. The Brewers getOrtez in the Corbyn Burns trade and okay,

(27:45):
now he joins a mix with OliverDunn with salth Frielich at the time
with Andrewmina stereo with Tyler Black andOrtez ends up winning the job here and
a fantastic month of May for him. He is Stud number one. It
really has just been incredible to watchhim perform because he's a guy I mean,

(28:07):
defensively he's great. The book onhim defensively has not changed. Absolutely
fantastic defender. Could be shortstop,as we were just talking about in the
last segment, he could be thestarting shortstop next year. He's a shortstop
by trade once the Domins has gone, or Teas could be that next guy,
so you have a shortstop essentially atthird base in or tease. The

(28:27):
question was always his bat. Canhe hit enough? Is there enough there
offensively? And we're seeing him hitfor average and hit for some power here.
I mean he's got eleven extra basehits. Eleven of his twenty one
hits here over the last thirty dayshave been for extra bases. That is

(28:48):
huge for a guy who wasn't reallyknown as a power guy coming in.
His bat really kind of took astep forward last year in the minor leagues,
and now it's continuing to take astep forward this year. And he
is the best hitter for the Brewersin the month of May, which is
incredible because the Brewers have had alot of great hitters in this last month.
William Contreras included, but Joey Ortizis Stud number one for the month

(29:12):
of May, but that means comingup next year is dud number one.
Dud number one is Oliver Dune.Oliver Dunn was kind of in the mix
with Joey Ortiz for that third basejob. But when Joey Ortiz becomes a
Stud, and Oliver Dunn becomes aDud, well that that whole playing time

(29:37):
mix over there at third base getsshifted a little bit. Oliver Dunn got
optioned down to the minor leagues fora little bit. He gets called back
up, but still He's played ineleven games for the Brewers this month,
hitting just two thirty one six thirtytwo. Ohps. It has not been
good Oliver Dunn. He's got elevenstrikeouts in these twenty six at bats.

(29:57):
It's just it's it's not it's notcoming together for him offensively. It just
hasn't quite been there. He hada hot stretch to start the season,
but since then it's really kind ofbeen downhill. So done he gets optioned
whenever he is in there, he'snot able to come through just one RBI
for the months it hasn't been there. It just hasn't been there for Oliver

(30:21):
Dunn and he is not doing anythingto prove that he deserves more playing time.
Meanwhile, Joey Ortez is showing hedeserves more playing time. So our
teas is now your everyday third baseman. Done is limited now to a bench
bat and really he I think shouldbe down in Tripaa to try and get
some more seasoning down there. SoOliver Dunn is dud number one here on

(30:47):
the month of May. Now movingback to the studs, our next stud
comes from the pitching staff for theBirds, and that is none other than
another rookie, Robert Gasser. RobertGasser has been phenomenal since being called up
this month. He has made fourstarts a one point nine to six ERA,

(31:12):
gone twenty three innings, giving upjust five earned runs, no homers,
just one walk, just one walkin these twenty three innings and thirteen
strikeouts. Now strikeout totals aren't veryhigh. He had to start there against
the Marlins where he didn't strike outanyone. Then he sets a career high
in strikeouts against the Cubs there onMonday. He has a phenomenal game,

(31:37):
but the Burs are four and Oher. In Robert Gasser's starts, this starting
rotation has lost so many guys. They've lost a whole rotations worth of guys
two injury. They have lost BrandonWoodruff, they have lost Wade Miley,
they have lost Jacob Junis, theyhave lost Jill Ross, they have lost
dl Hull. That's five guys rightthere. That's a rotation right there.

(32:00):
Pretty good rotation actually that they havelost to the injured list, and so
they needed Robert Gasser to come upnow that he was finally healthy. He
was dealing with some bone spurs inthe month of April. So now he's
ready. He comes up and hehas just been electric. The Bruers are
undefeated in his starts. He isgiving them length, he is keeping runners

(32:23):
off base, he is keeping theother team off the board, and he's
given the brus a great chance towin and they have won every single one
of his games. He's been betterstatistically than Paul Skeens. Paul Skens has
given up a couple of home runs, a couple more walks, a couple
more runs. In general, Gasser'sbeen better. Now. Granted, Skeens

(32:45):
has way more strikeouts, but stillGasser has been better. Gasser's let up
fewer runs, he has given upfewer walks. So Robert Gasser an absolute
stud. I don't know if he'sgoing to continue on this, you know,
one point ninety six ERA trajectory, but he's good man. He is

(33:09):
the centerpiece of the return for JoshHader. Okay, so you're expecting something
out of this guy, and nowfinally two years later, we're seeing the
results of that and why the Bruswanted him so bad and what this kid
is going to do for this team. They've needed someone to help stabilize that
rotation, and Gasser has been it. So he earns himself a stud nomination

(33:31):
here for the month of May,in his first month in the big league.
So congratulations to him. Now movingback to another dud. This dud
just recently hit the unemployment line becausehe was a little bit too much of
a dud. That would be MitchWhite. Mitch White zero to one with

(33:54):
a six forty eight ERA and sixappearances, went eight and a third,
gave eight runs, four walks, got six k's, but just overall he
was a mop up man and hewasn't exactly that great and mopping up now
he seems like a nice guy.He does when he got the chance to
meet him, But he just simplywas not pitching well. And I was

(34:15):
honestly surprised he lasted as long ashe did. The Brewers picked him up,
you know, a way earlier inthe month here, I thought he
was gonna be, you know, one appearance and done kind of guy.
I really didn't think he was gonnalast very long. He lasted a little
bit longer than I thought, buteventually the roster churn came for him.
Gives up another couple of runs andmop up duty the other day, and

(34:37):
Mitch White gets designated for assignment. So he is done as a Milwaukee Brewer.
Now, maybe he could get outrighted. Maybe no one picks him up
and the Brewers can send him atriple A. He doesn't have any minor
league options, but maybe they couldstash him down there and get him off
the foury man roster. But eitherway, the Mitch White era is done

(34:58):
in Milwaukee for now. And itwas just it was not great. A
mop up guy that wasn't really ableto mop up that well. And you
know, luckily the Brewers had somebig leads there but even a couple of
close games that he came in,you're giving up runs. It's it's not
it's not going well for Mitch White. So he ends up earning a dud

(35:19):
for the month of May. Butback on the positive side of things,
we got a couple more studs totalk about. So our next stud,
just to kind of keep with thepitching staff here, even though his last
outing didn't go all that well,is Brian Hudson. Brian Hudson gets a

(35:40):
stud for the month of May,ends up with a one eighty four ERA.
It was much lower before he gaveup those three runs there against the
Chicago Cubs to tie the game acouple of times. But fourteen and two
thirds, just two walks eighteen strikeouts. Those three runs all came in that
one outing for Hudson in the month. In his nine appearances, Hudson has

(36:04):
been electric out of the bullpen allseason. I suppose he could say he
was due for a stinker at somepoint. I don't want to dwell too
much on his last outing, Butreally, Brian Hudson for what the Brewers
got him, for the fact thathe was designated for assignment and the Birds
picked him up for you know,a relatively low price. I guess with
the way that he's performed, it'sbeen it's been great. Brian Hudson has

(36:29):
become one of the most trusted relieversout of that bullpen for Pat Murphy.
He's been an absolute stud the entiretime this season, the last outing notwithstanding.
So he earns himself a stud forthe month of May, and that
leaves us with just one stud remaining. So this next stud is none other

(36:55):
than Gary Sanchez. Gary Sanchez earnsa stud here for the month. Well
he's not, you know, afully everyday player. He does catch when
when William Contreras is dhing, andhe does dh sometimes himself. But Sanchez
has had himself quite the month here, hitting two fifty with a seven ninety
six ops and four home runs inthe month. He is tied with Joey

(37:20):
Ortiz leading the team in home runsthe last thirty days. And you know,
really for for Sanchez, you know, he started off slowly this season
and you know now he's kind offinally starting to heat up, and he's
brought in really for his power, and that's that's what he's here for.
He's not gonna hit for a highaverage. He's gonna back up Contreras.

(37:43):
You know he's gonna give it,maybe something solid defensively ish, but Contrara's
is better defensively. Sanchez, youget him for the pop in the bat,
and that's exactly what he's provided, including a clutch, huge home run
over the over the Cubs in theeighth inning on that series finale to lead
the Brewers to victory in that game. That was huge. The Brewers needed

(38:06):
that one and Sanchez was able toprovide it. So Sanchez earns himself a
stud for the month of May.So congratulations to all of our studs,
and maybe some sad trombones to ourduds for the month. I mean,

(38:27):
maybe you could also include Owen Milleramong the duds. I mean, he's
only played in a small handful ofgames. It's been optioned down to the
minor leagues for a little bit.But even when he's in there, he's
not exactly delivering either, which hasbeen a problem. So maybe you can
include Owen Miller in that group aswell. But overall, a positive month

(38:51):
for the Brewers as they continue toextend their lead in the NL Central.
They got some great performances from guysthat they weren't really you know, maybe
expecting things from Joey Ortiz, Robertgass Er, Brian Hudson. Our studs
there. They're all rookies too.If you notice that they're all in their
first full year in the big leagues. Gary Sanchez, he's been around a
while, but still still. Imean, it's it's quite the grip that

(39:14):
the Brewers have here that has beenplaying well, and that's exactly what you
love to see for a first placeteam. Coming up, we'll wrap things
up. You're listening to Sports onDeck with Dave gasper here on thirteen ten

(39:40):
gasper Here on thirteen ten wi bA, and mister misunderstood. I'm playing
that for a reason here. I'mnot sure if you saw this, but
over in New York, former Brewerspitcher Jorge Lopez, he was, you
know, interviewed after a game wherehe threw his glove into the stands and
u it sounded like to everyone thathe was saying that I'm on the worst

(40:04):
team in Major League Baseball, andeveryone has kind of took that and ran
with it. But it turns outhe was saying that I've been the worst
teammate in all of MLB. Wasnot criticizing the team, not saying that
this team is awful, not criticizinghis employer like that, But it didn't
matter. The media made everything worse. And when the New York media just

(40:28):
kind of ran with it, andhe ended up getting designated for assignment shortly
after his post game outburst. Andyou feel for the guy, you really
do, because he was misunderstood,he was misquoted. And then it also
comes out, I mean, he'sdealing with so many life things right now
with his son being ill and waitingfor a transplant. You know, that

(40:50):
comes out the day after, youknow, and that that wears on you
as it's almost impossible to imagine whathe's going through dealing with that, what
watching his son go through that, waiting for a transplant, dealing with the
issues that he's dealing with, andthen to have those kinds of issues at
work, and it all just kindof bubbles up and it feel for the
guy. But he's definitely misunderstood, and now he's designated for assignment, So

(41:16):
that does it for me. Heye, to end, I'm kind of a
down note there, but uh that'lldo it for me. Thank you for
listening. This has been sports ondec Dave gasper here on thirteen ten Wiba re
