You were listening to Sports on Deckwith Dave Gasper. Welcome to Sports on
Deck with Dave Gasper here on thirteenten Wiba. I am, of course
Dave Gasper. You can follow meon Twitter at d Gasper twenty four or
X or whatever it is that youcalled. It's technically X, but I

(00:30):
still call it Twitter. It's justa force, a habit. I'm not
changing it. I'm not changing itnow, not going to ever. It
is still forever in always going tobe Twitter to me. Hi doing there?
New time, new time slot here? If you're Neil, We're now
at a in the four o'clock hours. I previously was at noon here on

(00:50):
Sports on Deck and now move toyour afternoons here on your Saturday. So
coming in a lot to get toif you're unfamiliar with me or what is
this guy doing here? We liketo talk sports here on Sports on DAK.
As the name would imply, I'mDave gasperger I am the editor of
reviewing Thebrew dot com, among manyother things over here at the station.

(01:14):
So lots to get to really withthe show here. Because the trade deadline
is coming up, coming up onTuesday afternoon and the Brewers have a lot
of work to do because they havejust lost Christian Yelich for quite a bit.
His back has flared up on himagain. He thought about surgery.

(01:36):
He went to see a spine specialistand ultimately Yelich decided against getting surgery for
now. He will try to restand rehab his way back and make it
back this season. But surgery inthe offseason is a possibility. So you
lose your biggest bat in the lineupwith Yelich. He've been performing well.

(01:59):
It's leading the league and batting average. All of a sudden, the back
flares up again. And look,it's brutal for Yelich, it's brutal for
the team. Uh, there's nobodythat wins with this, and it puts
the Burs in a very difficult spot. Now. It helps them in the
short term because they wanted to bringback Gary Sanchez, but Eric has has
also been playing well, and youonly got room for so many catchers right

(02:21):
now, the Birds are carrying threecatchers. Yeah, William Contreras Sanchez and
has contrerasys Your every day started therebehind the plate, So you got two
guys battling for backup duty. Thevery limited bench. Obviously, you're gonna
see one of those guys dhing agood chunk of the time, especially now
with Yelich out, because Yelich wastaking up a lot of those dh at

(02:42):
bats. So it evens thinks outof it there. But they're not keeping
has and Sanchez forever. Those guysaren't staying the rest of the season.
One of them's got to go.Which one it is, I don't know,
but it's trade deadline coming up here. Someone somewhere, in all likelihood

(03:06):
is looking for catching. They're lookingfor some backup catching help, in which
case has or Sanchez would be veryattractive trade option. So I could see
a move happening there. I couldsee the Birds selling one of their backup
catchers. Now this isn't to saythat the Birds are going to be sellers.

(03:27):
Now. We have seen reports,we have seen rumors that the Birds
are going to be buying and sellingat the trade deadline here. It's not
going to be anything like Josh Hatera couple of years ago. Okay,
remember back to that. That waswhen they were doing buying and selling.
They're trying to do both. They'retrying to get cute with it and it
did not work because all the movesthat they had lined up after the Hater

(03:51):
trade fell through, so they endedup with nothing. Essentially, they got
Matt Bush and an injured reliever inTrevor Rosen. It's all who never ended
up actually pitching for him. Itwas dumb. It was really dumb,
but whatever. But they're not goingto be doing anything like that again.
So before you grab your torches andpitchforks and start heading from Att Arnold offis

(04:16):
or heading for me, if we'retelling you here, it's not gonna be
anything like that. It is goingto be fringe roster guys. It is
gonna be your backup catcher battle maybea back end reliever or two. That's
just kind of barely hanging on toa roster spot because you have other pictures
coming back here. You got dalHull coming back. You've already got Junie

(04:38):
and Bryce Wilson back. There isas long relievers. You got Joe Ross
it's going to be coming back. You only got so many rotation spots.
You got Devin Williams coming back too, so that's gonna add another one to
the bullpen. Plus you're looking forstarting pitching. So you're gonna be bringing
in another picture from outside most likely, so you're gonna have to clear some

(05:01):
roster space. So odds are oneof these bullpen guys may go too.
We saw that last year with PeterStrezleki getting traded for Andrew Chafin. That's
Trezeleki. I believe it had alreadybeen optioned at the time, but still
they shipped them out, So wecould be looking at something similar for the

(05:23):
Brewers, they're looking to move someof the guys from their big league rosters.
They kind of shuffle things and tweakthings, but we know that they
are looking for starting pitching because mygoodness, do they need another starter that
they can trust and rely on.And now they're looking for a left handed
bat following Christian Yelch's injury. Buthere's my question, what if they don't

(05:46):
get that left handed bat. Whatif they don't what if they don't get
the starting pitching that they want. They already got Aaron Savally. I mean,
it's a very crowded market. Alot of teams that are buying,
not a lot of teams sell, and everyone wants starting pitching. There's simply
not enough starting pitching to go around. The Brewers could very easily be left

(06:10):
out of that feeding frenzy. Theycould. It's realistic, it's possible.
I still think the Bruers will dosomething, but we need to talk about
the chance here that they don't,that they don't do something meaningful, that
they don't go out and get oneof these top guys that everyone's looking at.
We can talk about the Eric Fetti'sand the Tyler Anderson's and the Yusai

(06:32):
Kakuchies and the Jack Flaherty's all thatwe want. There's a real chance that
the brus get none of them, there is, So what do they do?
They rely on what they have Internally, how reassuring is that going to

(06:54):
be? To rely on what theyhave? It sounds not very reassuring at
all, But actually it's not abad situation for what they're looking for now
that they're looking for a left handedbat here in the wake of Yelich being
hurt for a while, you've alreadygot a couple already, and one that

(07:17):
you're really going to need to stepup as a left hand hitter is Garrett
Mitchell. Garrett Mitchell came back frommissing the first three months and he's been
he's been getting better, he's beenimproving steadily as he gets back into the
swing of things. Literally, GarrettMitchell someone who's going to have to step
up and be that star player andbe that spark plug that the Brewers envisioned

(07:42):
when they first drafted him and whenthey first brought him up to the big
leagues, and what he's shown hecan be when he's healthy. We haven't
seen enough of Garrett Mitchell being healthy. But now with Yelich out, there's
a lot more playing time in theoutfield to go around for Mitchell and Freelich
and j Centurion O Blake Perkins. But Mitchell of that group is the only

(08:07):
one who is left handed with powerpotential, if you get what I'm saying,
because south Frelick's also left handed,Blake Perkins is a switch hitter,
Cherio's a righty power type of bat. But south Frielick does not have power,
which is fine, he doesn't haveto. I mean that that's just

(08:28):
not his game. South Freelick isnot gonna be a twenty home run a
season type of hitter. He's justnot. Garrett Mitchell, though can be.
He has the strength to do it. He has the power to do
it. It's only got one homerun so far since he's returned from injury,
but it's gonna it's gonna be alot on Garret Mitchell's shoulders. They

(08:52):
need him to be the guy tobe that left handed bat in the outfield
to supply some power, because that'swhat Yelich was. Now, I'm not
saying Garrett Mitchell has to be Yelichbecause trying to expect that and trying to
put those kinds of lofty expectations onhim, it's not gonna help. It's
not gonna help him play to thatlevel. You need Garrett Mitchell to be

(09:16):
Garrett Mitchell. You don't need himto be Christian Yelich. You need him
to be Garrett Mitchell. And GarrettMitchell, the healthy version is a really
damn good player. He's a playerwho can hit for average and hit for
power. He's going to need tostart getting into it. This is his

(09:37):
chance to really step up and provehe deserves to be a long term piece
in this outfield, because like itor not, Yelich is going to be
a long term piece in this outfieldno matter what happens with his injury.
As long as he's able to play, Yelich is going to be a piece
out there. Jackson Curio also hasthe contract extension. He is going to

(09:58):
be piece of this outfield going forward. That leaves one starting spot for Mitchell,
Freelick, Perkins, Joey Weimer, and whoever else you want to possibly
add in. If Garrett Mitchell isgoing to prove that he should be the
everyday guy out there over someone likeSal Freelick, he is going to have

(10:22):
to tap into his power potential. He is going to have to be getting
on base and going to have tobe stealing bases and being the menace and
the spark plug out there that weknow that he can be. He's going
to have to stay healthy to doall of this. But that is what
the Brewers are going to have torely on if they stay internal here,
and even if they don't, evenif they do get some other left handed

(10:45):
bat and we all go get gayover him, it's like, oh,
here's another hitter. He's coming in. He's going to save us. This
offense is gonna be so great. Now you still need Mitchell to be that
guy. You still need Mitchell tostep up because with this lineup too.
As it's constructed, there is nota ton of room to add a starting

(11:09):
player. We've just gone over theoutfield, guys. Looking at the infield.
Adamis isn't going anywhere, Terrang isn'tgoing anywhere. Joey Ortiz isn't going
anywhere. Reyes Hoskins is getting paidseventeen million dollars a season. He's not
going anywhere. They're gonna run himout there until hopefully he starts hitting.
He's been in a bit of aslump. The power is starting to come
back a little bit. But Hoskins, you're not gonna be able to replace

(11:33):
him. William Contraroz, You're nottaking him out. So where do you
have room? At DH a littlebit, you can maybe add another outfielder,
just because you currently have three catchersand four outfielders, so you don't

(11:56):
necessarily have to get that left handedbat. But you do need someone to
step up in the wake of Yellowch'sabsence, and that's someone is going to
have to be Garrett Mitchell. Comingup, we'll get into more of a
trade deadline talk. As we closein on the deadline, we'll get into

(12:18):
that. Coming up. You're listeningto Sports on Deck with Dave gasper here
on thirteen ten, Wiba, andwelcome back to Sports on Deck with Dave

(12:39):
gasper Here on thirteen ten Wiba,I am Dave gasp We're talking trade deadline
here. Things can move pretty fastin the baseball world. As trades come
in hot and heavy. We've seenthem start to get kicked off already.
AJ Puck going from the Marlins tothe Diamondbacks. Randy or Rosa Rain,

(13:01):
an all star outfielder going from theTampa Bay Rays to the Seattle Mariners.
Raisin Mariners make a bunch of tradestogether all the time. It's just it's
weird how they do that. Butthe Brewers also make a ton of trades
with Tampa Bay. The Brewers madeone a couple of weeks ago with Aaron
Savali. So let me ask youthis, who do you want to see

(13:22):
the Brewers go out and get atthe trade deadline? Because we always have
these guys in our minds. Youlook around the league like, oh,
yeah, this guy would be great, this guy would be would be awesome.
I'd like to get him put himin a Brewer's uniform. Who do
you want to see who do youwant to see Matt Arnold go get for
Milwaukee down the stretch. I've gota couple guys in mind that i'd really

(13:48):
like. I feel like most ofthe time, whenever I sit here and
it's be like, oh yeah, this guy would be perfect because of this
reason and that reason or whatever else, it always just ends up with the
Brewers do the exact opposite. Theyget somebody else. They never get like
the guy that I pick out.So, you know, perhaps my guesses
are just bad luck. You know, whoever I say here can just be

(14:11):
like they'll be like, oh well, we we are not going to do
that guy. Then I don't know, maybe the price will be too high.
Not sure, But a couple ofguys that make sense to me that
they were seeing kind of connected quitea bit here. Number one I think
is Jack Clarity. Jack Clarity's arental. He was really good against the

(14:35):
Brewers for a number of years whenhe was with the Cardinals, having a
great season with Detroit. Brewers couldget him, wouldn't cost him a ton.
You know, there'd still be abunch of teams interested in Flarity,
but it still wouldn't cost him aton because he's a rental starter. The
Tigers are just looking for something betterthan the draft pick compensation they would receive

(14:56):
should he stay with them and reachfree agency. That's what they're looking for.
That's really kind of the question, which act Flaherty and the Brewers certainly
have the ability to offer that. Now, whether they want to offer that
is going to be a completely differentstory because the Brewers generally don't like to
pay high prices for guys, butthey've got the prospect capital to do it.

(15:22):
They do. They've got a loadedfarm system, a ton of great
prospects, and I'd be open totrading just about any of them, to
be honest, like that. They'reredundant at so many positions in the minor
league. Said they could trade oneof these, one of these guys and
still be fine at that spot. Now, I am a prospect hugger in

(15:46):
general, and I don't like tosee them traded, and I'd like to,
you know, especially keep those topguys. But Flarity's not going to
cost you a top guy. Flarity'snot going to cost you a Jacob Mezowski
or Tyler Black or anything like that. He's not sendy of those lower down
guys. I can like them allthat I want, but I'd be fine
trading any single one of them inorder to get flerity to help out this

(16:08):
team down stretch because they need helpin this rotation. They need it.
They made it through the other daywith the bullpen game of Zastrisney, Bryce
Wilson, and Jacob Junas all combiningtogether. But man, that is not
gonna be sustainable. After all,you can't always be facing the last place

(16:29):
Chicago Cubs. You're gonna be facingsome good teams eventually when that turn comes
around. So you need to getsomeone Jack Flarty I think would be great.
You say, Kakuchi and the TorontoBlue Jays I think also would be
amazing for the Burgers to get,so they got guys that there are guys
out there, perhaps even Friday nights. Starting pitcher Trevor Rodgers. He's someone

(16:56):
who always felt like a Brewers typeof guy to me, just with his
stuff, his ability. Miami hasn'tbeen able to get the best out of
him in the past couple of years. I think he would benefit from a
change of scenery. I think theBrewers would be that would be a great
place for that change. Of sceneryfor Rogers, similar to Aaron Savali.
Savally was really good in Cleveland. He goes to Tampa Bay, he's terrible.

(17:21):
The Brewers get him in a changeof scenery, hoping that they can
turn things around for him. Somaybe we'll see that happen too. So
there are guys out there that Ilike that the Brewers should be looking at.
They're looking everywhere. I would saythey should look at him. Trust

(17:45):
me, they are looking at allthese guys. They are being aware of
every single scenario in situation. However, they may not always determine that the
risk is worth it or the proceis worth it. Because like they're in
the conversations with these other teams aboutthese trades, they know what the prices

(18:07):
are and what they're asking for andthey're trying to negotiate it down. Some
of those prices may be way toohigh, and the word's gonna be like,
absolutely not. The risk here isjust not worth it. That could
also very well be part of it. There could be medical things, There
could be who knows what. Maybethey'll look at them and be like,

(18:29):
you know, his stuff, whateverelse. I don't think we really want
them, or we're not going togive up anything more than this super low
price to get them. Right,Like, when you're looking at, you
know, buying something from I don'tknow, either from goodwill or you know,
go to a garage sale or whateverelse and like to try and ask
for a ridiculously high price and it'slike, oh, there's a crack in

(18:52):
it. You got this issue withit, it's missing this, it's it
doesn't have that. It's like, well, I'm not going to pay you
however much for it, Like likeyou're asking twenty bucks for this thing,
Like I wouldn't give you more thanfive for it because you got this wrong
with it and this wrong with it. Okay, five bucks then and if

(19:14):
they stick or you know, theystick to their price twenty bucks, it's
like, well then no, I'mnot getting it. I may like it,
but certainly not worth twenty bucks. Is that how garage sales work?
I'm tirely sure. I haven't reallygone to too many of them, to
be honest, but you know whatI mean, right, Like, it's
sometimes the interest just isn't there, and sometimes the price is just ridiculously too

(19:38):
high. It's like, no,we're not going to pay that, so
that's a possibility. But Jack Flarity, you say Kakuchi. Those are two
names that I'm looking at. I'dlove to see the Brewers get. Now,
another name that's kind of new tothe market here is Read Debt Meers
of the Los Angeles Angels. TheBrewers are one of several teams that have

(20:03):
inquired about Reid Debtmers. So theAngels are sellers again. Finally, they
tried to buy last year in theirlast year with Otani, and it failed
horribly. They've been bad for yearsbecause they're horribly run. But everyone's asking
about Reid Debtmers. Not so muchTyler Anderson, but Read Debtmers. Okay,

(20:29):
left handed pitcher, left handan's starter. I think he'd be fantastic for
the Brewers. Now, the pricemay be a bit higher for someone like
Detmers because he is young, andhe is controllable for the next several years.
You know, he's got another threeand a half years of team control.

(20:52):
He's first going to be arbitration eligiblethis offseason. Now. The thing
with Debtmers, though he's really struggledhere era over six and sixty three innings,
got demoted to Triple A. Doesn'tsound great. But a lot of
teams, a lot of contenders partedlyhave interest in Debtmers, the Brewers,

(21:15):
the Dodgers, the Guardians, allteams who know a whole bunch about developing
pitching. I think the talent isdefinitely there with Debtmers, and I think
the Brewers and other teams are seeingthis as an opportunity to buy low on
a very talented arm because right nowReadebtmers is not worth that much. But
if you can get him into yourpitching lab, especially you know the Burgers,

(21:36):
get him in the Brewers' pitching lab, fix him up, put him
back out there. I mean,he's got enough talent. I mean he
can really be a solid mid rotationstarter for you down the stretch, not
only this year, but for thenext three years after that. So Debt
Mares would be a fantastic bi loowoption if the Angels are willing to trade
him. Having those years of teamcontrol may make him a little bit more

(21:57):
expensive then you would like for aguy with a six something ERA this year
in the Majors, But you'd stillbe buying way low on a guy considering
what he is supposed to be andwhat what his trade value was supposed to
be at this stage. You don'tfind too many controllable starters out there that

(22:18):
are available. And if Demvers isavailable again, it's a large part because
he hasn't been good this year, but is he ever going to be good
with the Angels. He could probablyget to being really good and reach his
potential if he gets out of LosAngeles. The Burgers know how to develop
pitching. They can take him in. So that's another contender that we do

(22:45):
have a hard, concrete rumor thatthey have inquired about this guy. Now.
The Brewers call about just about everyone. They call on him, you
know, just kind of see whatthe price is that they inquire, the
check things out. But still they'relooking at Dept. Maers as a possibility.
They looked at Savali as a byLoo option because Savally used to cost

(23:08):
a top one hundred prospect when theRays got them last year at the deadline.
It cost him Kyle Manzardo their topprospect. When the Brewers got him
a year later, cost him GregoryBarrios or twenty somethings prospect. Good player,
but it cost them a whole lotless than what it cost me a

(23:30):
year ago. They bought low onSavali, and they could look to do
the same here with debt Mars oranyone else that they want to look at
here at the trade deadline. Sothat's what I'd be looking at for the
Brewers. Here. Your your typicalkind of stock market advice. Buy low,
sell high right, sell high onsome of your prospects that maybe their

(23:52):
value is higher right now than youthink they're actually going to bethern than what
their actual asset is. If theirvalue higher than that, sell them,
sell them while you can sell themfor guys that you're buying low on.
If you want to kill two birdswith one stone, you get them both
done at the same time. Buyinglow and selling high. That is how

(24:15):
you do it, how you win. Speaking of buying and money, Jordan
Love and his contract a lot totalk about there. We'll get into that
coming up here on Sports on Deckwith Dave Gasper. You're listening on thirteen
ten WIBA. Welcome back to Sportson Deck with Dave Gasper. Here on

(24:53):
thirteen ten WIBA. I'm Dave Gasper. Be sure to follow me on Twitter
at de gasp for twenty four Alllots of great stuff going up there all
the time, especially now, duringthis busy time of the year with the
trade deadline, draft signings from theMLB Draft, and of course Packers' training

(25:14):
camp now getting underway. F hadthe first week of Packers' training camp and
Jordan Love has not been on thepractice field. He is there, he
is in the building, he isin meetings, he is standing on the
practice field, standing by, buthe is not putting the jerseys on,
he's not putting the pads on.He's standing there. He's not taking a
single snap. He's not doing anythinguntil he gets his contract. So it's

(25:41):
sort of a holdout, but notreally a holdout because he's there. He's
participating in everything except for actually doinganything on the field, and they're working
on getting things done. Now itsounds like they are making progress. Love
and Guda Kunst they're making progress ona deal. It hasn't quite been done,

(26:03):
but Jordan Love is not going topractice until he gets it. And
I don't blame him one bit,not at all. I don't even think
Gooda cons blames him. We've seenguys get hurt in practice before. Even
though he's a quarterback, he isas protected as can be during practice.

(26:23):
He's got the Red Jersey on.No one can touch him. No one's
actually going to be sacking him oranything else. But we've seen it happen.
Before you take one bad turn, your knee gives acl goes. We've
seen it happen to Teddy Bridgewater suffereda devastating knee injury in practice, no

(26:45):
contact, just poop down he wentand his career was forever changed because of
that. So it's very smart onJordan Love's part to be like, I
am not taking a single snap.I'm not taking a single drop back nothing
until I get the bag secured, and hopefully it'll be done soon. Right,

(27:10):
it's just the first week of trainingcamp. You're he's not missing too
much. Obviously you'd like to havehim out there and be part of things,
but hopefully they can get it donesoon. They should have potentially had
this done before training camp started. If they knew that he wasn't going to
practice until he got the contract, they should have tried to make a bit

(27:33):
more progress here before training camp gotunderway. Maybe they knew that, maybe
they didn't. I think they knewthat he certainly wouldn't be playing in any
sort of games until he got thecontract done. They had to have at
least figured that the Packers are notstupid. Brian Goodi Kunst is not stupid.

(27:56):
They had to know that at thevery least Love is next in line
to get the big contract as aquarterback. I think they're trying to find
some sort of way to protect themselves. We'll also get giving Love the security
that he needs because you're going offof half a season essentially of starts.

(28:18):
The first half was not great. The second half was really good. And
that's why you're looking at making himone of the highest paid players in the
league with this extension. The trackrecord is only there so much, but
everyone's like, oh, do youpay him? Do you not? How
much? It's kind of tough withthe way that the market is for quarterbacks,
how it just keeps on going upand up and up, and when

(28:41):
you have a good one and youknow you do, you got to pay
to keep them. That's that's therisk you gotta run. And the Packers
that they're gonna be paying Love herefor what they're expecting him to do over
the next couple of years. It'snot necessarily based on what he has done.

(29:02):
It's what they're expecting him to do. They drafted him in the first
round. They shoved Aaron Rodgers outfor this kid, and then he shows
you the good things, and youknow, shows you he can be a
capable starting quarterback, lead you tothe playoffs, lead you to win a
playoff game. So he's shown youenough that you should pay him, and

(29:26):
they're going to pay him. Buthow much, right, how much would
you pay Jordan Love based on whatyou've seen He's been in the league for
four years now, You've seen himas a starter for one and he was
really only good for about half ofthat season. How much would you pay

(29:48):
him? Forty five million a year? Because I got to be honest with
you, forty five million a yearat this point, I don't think it's
going to be enough to get himto sign. I think you might have
to break fifty million. Is hegoing to be the top paid quarterback over
guys who have a longer track record. I don't know. We'll find out

(30:11):
those details when they get it done. I think that's what Love is certainly
angling for. But either way,it's going to be a huge deal that
the Packers are getting Love on here. Look at Daniel Jones in New York.
The Giants paid him forty million ayear and he's not even good.

(30:37):
He's not even good. They wantto get out from under that contract so
bad. And I think this isalso where the Packers are trying to protect
themselves here, because the last thingyou want to do is pay a guy
too early and then all of asudden he regresses and it's like, oh,
he actually wasn't that good. That'swhat the Giants did with Daniel Jones.

(31:03):
They paid him way too much money, way too early, and all
of a sudden everything goes sideways onhim. Same kind of thing with Kyler
Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Theypaid him a lot of money. How
has that gone? Not super well? So I think that's where the Packers

(31:25):
are trying to be like, Okay, we'll try and you know, work
something, work something out here.Maybe that's why it's taking so long.
That's what I would envision, becauselast year, when they had to make
the decision on the fifth year optionon his rookie deal because he was the
first round pick, they instead signedhim to a short term extension that guaranteed

(31:47):
less money than the fifty year optionbut gave him the potential to earn more
money than it based on incentives, because it's hard to pick him up on
a fifty year option at that pricewhen you've never seen him as the starting
quarterback before. It's very hard todo that. So they protected themselves and

(32:12):
they also gave Love some security here. It's like, Okay, the guarantees
are less, but if you playreally well, you'll earn more money than
if we had just picked up theoption. So it's kind of a win
win. But now now you're gonnahave to pay him. Love has something
on his resume and he's got theleverage and he's using it and we're not

(32:37):
going to see him on the practicefield until that thing gets done. So
what would you pay him? Howhigh would you be willing to go?
Fifty million, fifty one, fiftytwo, fifty three, would you go
to fifty five? Would you goto fifty six? Obviously, the salary

(33:00):
cap keeps on going up and upand up, so you have the ability
to pay quarterbacks a little bit more. You know, back in the day,
it wasn't that long ago, whenyou know, a quarterback earning thirty
million a year was just absolutely absurd, Like you're the highest paid player in
the league thirty million a season.Never saw that the inflation of quarterback prices

(33:24):
has been absurd. Inflation in generalacross the country has been absurd these last
few years. Maybe that's playing apart in it. Two, just all
the general inflation. But you know, at least Lace the wages are going
up for the quarterbacks. I don'tknow about the rest of us, but
any who, that's beside the point. Jordan Love is going to get paid

(33:45):
here at some point soon, andthe pack the Packers need to get this
done because now you're losing practice timewith him and he's still essentially second year
starting quarterback. That's you need himout there, You need him practicing,
he needs the reps. You gottaget this done. They probably should have

(34:10):
got gotten it done at some pointin the off season here, but now
we're into camp. Now it's costingany practice time. They're getting close,
that's what the rumors are. They'regetting close. It's just that kind of
time of year, whether it's baseballseason, all this trade is close now

(34:35):
Football contracts time, no contracts close. We're working on it. We're at
the one yard line. Well, gotta get it across the goal line,
do a little QB sneak. Getit over there. Let's jump over the
line. That money. That moneyis going to talk for Jordan Love and

(35:00):
the Green Bay Packers, and we'llsee just how invested in Jordan Love the
Packers are coming up. We'll wrapthings up here. You're listening to Sports
on Deck with Dave Gasper here onthirteen ten WIBA, Welcome back to Sports

(35:31):
on Deck here with Dave Gasper.Just a few more minutes left with you
on your Saturday as we wrap thingsup. You know, there's something that
I've seen from some people, someother talk show guys and sports guys about

(35:51):
what the Brewer should do following ChristianYelich's injury, and one of them that
I've seen is we'll just trade WillieThomas Hunt on the season, trade him,
trade Hoskins, get a whole bunchof other guys back, get what
you can, and just load upfor next year. Pack it in.
It is so absolutely absurd to thinkabout packing it in, trading away Willie

(36:16):
Adamas right now, just because Yelichhad a backflare up again. He's not
even out for the season yet, might do surgery in the offseason. But
he's gonna try and rehab his wayback in a couple of weeks. This
whole trade of Domis thing is soridiculous to me. I don't understand it.

(36:44):
Yes, he is a free agentat the end of the season.
Yes, the Brewers are going towatch him walk. They are not going
to be resigning him to a longterm deal. Everybody knows that. The
Brewers know that a Damis knows that. Everyone knows he's not staying. But
you think, oh, well, because they did this with Hater where they

(37:05):
just traded him early, they canjust do the same with the Domas.
No, they're not going to bedoing that. They went into the season
with them trading him now for justtwo months as a rental, Like,
you're not gonna get anywhere near enoughvalue back for what you're going to do
to the clubhouse. Willia Domas istoo important to that clubhouse to trade him

(37:28):
away right now, far far tooimportant. Josh Hater, Well, an
important part of the twenty twenty twoclub was nowhere near as important to that
locker room as Willia Domas is nowherenear. You are up six games on

(37:51):
Saint Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. You are up by six games,
you'll lose Yelich and all of asudden you're talking about punting the season.
Why why you are in fantastic position. The Cubs are nothing, The Reds
are nothing. The Pirates are thePirates, which is essentially nothing. The

(38:15):
Cardinals, I mean they're hanging aroundsort of, but they're six games back.
You're not just going to punt andthen just give the division to them
and just stop trying because Yelch gothurt. When you're up by six games,
you have a great chance. You'resitting in a great spot to make

(38:36):
the playoffs this year. And ifyou make the playoffs, if you get
into the dance, you can winthe dance. Is it going to be
harder if Yelch is not one hundredpercent? Yes? Does it make it
impossible? No? But if youif you trade a Damis away, even

(38:57):
though his numbers aren't you know, the greatest, But if you trade him
away, the message that sends tothe team and what you lose there,
it is going to make it impossiblefor this team. You're hamstringing him if
you do that. So, no, he's not going anywhere. You're not

(39:22):
trading any core pieces away, andlike it or not, Willia Domas is
a core piece? Is he goingto have to step up down the stretch
now with Yelich out? Yes,absolutely, he's not going to be a
core piece next year. Make therun with him, give him a qualifying
offer and free agency and let himwalk because you know he's going to collect

(39:47):
the draft pick for next year andmove on. But you are not trading
him now when you are a contender, when you are six games up in
first place. It's just it's ridiculous, all right. I am out of
time for sure. To follow meagain on Twitter at degasper twenty four and
