Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's a woman out there that says her family birthday
tradition is starting to feel more like a debt collection service.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's Joanna and Sean right here on Sunny One. It
was six point five, and what began as a fun
way to make birthday special has now left one particular
family member feeling like the tradition has gotten out of
control and feels like it's.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Just a money grab.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Now, well, I'm trying to figure out what about a
birthday celebration is leading to a feeling like debt collecting.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah, so there's a family Birthday Club, that's what they
call this, and every time somebody has a birthday, they
all cough up twenty five bucks.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
So it's a pretty big family.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
The birthday person ends up getting roughly six hundred and
twenty five dollars when it's their birthday. But they do
this for every single person. That's a lot of birthdays,
and that's a lot of giving money that you're eventually
just going to get back anyway.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah, it isn't fun anymore.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I get that.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
I feel like it does feel like it defeats the
purpose a little bit. And then if you have a
big family you're constantly digging around in your pockets, right, yeah, you're.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Chasing payments instead of celebrating the actual birthday.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
You're losing sight of the celebration.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
In my opinion, absolutely, TERA's on the line here, Tarah.
Could you have a family tradition that you wish would
come to an end.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
I hate the fact that we have to have three
Thanksgivings every year. I literally have to have Thanksgiving with
one side of my family on Thanksgiving Day, and I
have to have Thanksgiving with the other side of my
family the next day, and then on Saturday, we're still
having Thanksgiving with my husband's side of the family. And

(01:32):
literally no one serves anything different except for turkey and dressing.
And I feel like I'm going to die by the
end of all of its.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
People, please go to overdose on cranberry sauce at that.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Point for real.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
You got to do the fast thing for like two
weeks before that.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Oh man, that's a good one.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
And hopefully that tradition will end in the near future
for you, Tara.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Not this year, unfortunately, is already in the Happy Thanksgiving guys,
Thank you you.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Too, Sony six point.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Family tradition should be fun and festive and of course
all about family. Good morning gets you try and Sean
right here on the study one A six point five.
But sometimes traditions cross the line just don't become fun anymore.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, we heard about one woman's viral birthday celebration that
has her wishing that would completely end. We just talked
to Tara, who wants no more three Thanksgivings in her house.
And let's get someone else on the line here, Stephan
you good morning. Is there a family tradition you wish
would end?

Speaker 6 (02:41):
Yeah, every Thanksgiving we do. We always say like five
things that were grateful for and like I really feel
like it's a competition at this point.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
With all my family members.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
Yeah, okay, and also like well I'm going to say,
you know, my faith, my family and whatever I'm and
here I am. I'm like, I'm grateful for having a job.
I'm grateful for my boyfriend. I'm grateful for my dog,
you know, like those.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Like little things that means that mean the most to me.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
And everyone just looks at me and they're like, ill,
like you're grateful for that? Like you're not grateful for
your family and your safe thank God and everything.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
And I'm like, gratitude is gratitude. Blessings their blessings.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
People can consider whatever they want as those things, and people,
especially your family, shouldn't judge those things.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, what's the most out of pocket thing someone has
said they were thankful for your at good Thanksgiving table
that you were like, that's out of line.

Speaker 6 (03:37):
Oh my brother love him to death, but he is
in college. He's just entering law school. But he was
a senior last year in college and he said he
was very grateful that a classmate got sick because then
he was able to get the highest point on the test.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Oh no, help him.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
Get the four point zero GPA that he needed to
graduate and in law school. And I'm like, I'm like, dude,
that is horrible.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Okay, that's that's awkward. I was expecting something way different.
It's like bragging about being thankful for a car. Wow,
that is that is a special kind of wrong right there.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, man, that's a good tradition to maybe break with
this upcoming Thanksgiving. Thank you Stephanie for the call this morning.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
You're listening to Sunny Mornings with Joanna and Sean on
Sonny One.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Oh six point five.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
It's Joanna and Sean on Sunny Window six point five.
Las Vegas is official Christmas music station. Now, Joanna, I'm
going to ask you to put on your detective hat here.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
First, sir, I'm pretty good at this.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
So a girlfriend of my wife and I she went
on what she said was an amazing date, ended up
going home with this guy. However, after that, the day after,
she saw a TikTok video which makes her think that
she got taken advantage.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Of by this guy.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
Oh what say?

Speaker 4 (04:54):
It was a pickup artist tactic.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Now, I'm going to tell you what she told us
about this date, and then you tell me if you
can spot where you think the tactic.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Was that was used on her.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Okay, let's hear it.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
So they went out to a wine bar first, right,
had just some chit chat, nice talk.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
It was going well.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
After the wine bar, and he said, why don't we
go get dinner someplace it's going well. So they went
and got dinner. Dinner was like a couple of hours,
much more deep chat. They got to know each other,
and then after that they went to another place. They
went for like a romantic walk in like the Arts district. Right, Okay,
So after that she ended up going home with the guy,
but she was scrolling Instagram and saw what she thought

(05:30):
was the tactic used. Can you pick up what it
was based on that short story?

Speaker 6 (05:35):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Uh, multiple locations to lead the girl on to think
there's longevity.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yes, yes, it is dangn smart.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
So it's meant to make it feel like you went
on three separate dates. So pick up artists are using
this tactic to quote unquote like speed up the dating
process and make things happen faster for themselves. So yeah,
it was three different locations in one night led her
to build that emotional bond and that trust in a

(06:08):
much quicker fashion than she otherwise would have.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Sneaky, sneaky, But I mean, that's all I kept thinking
when you were telling this tray.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
I'm like, oh, another spot, another spot, another spot. I'm like,
that's not common. So I think I've.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Been out of the dating world a very long time,
but I would think that that is not necessarily the
norm these days. I'll let you now, trying to scam
a woman to go up with you. Wow, right, that's
a good heads up, right there, Sunny. Sunny would have
six point five good morning.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
It's Joanna and it's Sean and now it's time.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
For your daily devise of positivity with your sunny story
of the day. So this holiday season, a local Tech
two shop owner is proving that ink isn't the only
way that they are giving out and back this season,
they're spreading love and generosity in the in the market
for a tattoo shot.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
I am can I tell you I think you are
tattoo shops.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Tattoo tattooers get judged that think based on their appearance,
but oftentimes the most generous people you'll ever meet.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I love that so true.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Now, the owner of Legacy Tattoo Lounge, his name is
Chris Garcia. He also owns nine other tattoo shops in town,
is on a mission to make the holidays brighter for foster.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Children here in our community.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Now he does this through his annual holiday gift drive.
So that means his tattoo lounges are collecting toys, clothes,
and essentials to support kids in the foster care system, which,
of course we always like to shine a light on.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
What a great move on his part. Love that.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Now, what started out as a very small effort has
grown into a community wide movement where locals are dropping
off donations and even volunteering to help wrap gifts. Now,
Chris says, it's all about giving these kids a sense
of hope and reminding them that they're not forgotten, which.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Is just a powerful thing to say.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Now, what they are doing, too, is they are offering
free fifty dollars flash tattoos.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
I don't know what that means. Free fifty dollars, but
whether it.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Would normally charge fifty.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Bucks for you get there, you go right flash to
and I don't even know fully what that means.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Quick tattoos, little tattoos.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Yeah, your stuff they already have in a book ready
to go.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Look at that.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Look at this guy over here with all this ink
knowledge this morning. So you can get that for free
if you bring in at least thirty dollars worth of
new toys, clothes, pajamas or other items to make you know,
Foster Children's Christmas that much better.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Love that.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
It's not that awesome.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
And of course they are continuing to prove that kindness
is really all over in our community.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Just have to look for it. So that's your sunny
story of the day.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
We're gonna put all these details right now at Sunny
Window six five dot com. Just click on Sunny Mornings. Now, Teresa,
let's keep the holiday spirit up. Tell us something good
that happened to you recently. Okay, so don't be mad
at me, but I finished all my Christmas shopping and
we're not.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Even into Thanksgiving territory.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
And I'm so happy about it.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
I haven't put away all my Halloween stuff yet. Are
you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Do you even have a single present left to buy?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
No?

Speaker 6 (09:00):
No, I already did it, and I did so.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Much money, all right, Teresa, Now you're just bragging.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Okay, she's on top of it.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
She's saved money, and I'm sure you're a whole lot less.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Stressed, right, No stress for me. Nice, nice, Well, good
for you, Teresa.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Motivating all of us this morning, wake up with Sunny
Mornings with Joanna and Sean.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
I'm Sunny one. I was six point five.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
We all love our.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
In laws, right, but let's be honest, sometimes there's a
limit to their holiday stays. Good morning, It's Joanna and
Sean right here on Sunny when I was six point five,
and we got to talk about this because right now Sean,
your in laws are currently staying with you before the holidays.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Yes, we've actually had quite a bit of stint, quite
a stint of company visiting for the last like several weeks.
But yes, my in laws are currently in town. I
think that how long they stay, Honestly, I think it
depends a lot on your in laws, right which in
laws we're talking about?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Sure, And there's a new survey out there that pinpoints
the exact amount.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Of time where it starts to feel like they are
maybe overstaying.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
They're welcome.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I want to take a guess at what the majority
of America feels is too long for in laws to
stay over?

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Ten days? Maybe?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Ah, Okay, you're very generous.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
According to this new survey, it says six days is
long enough for most people when their in laws are
staying over during the holidays.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
I think a lot of that has to do with
quantity too, right, Like if you're having a Griswold family
Christmas and you've got like fifteen other people in your house,
I might jump off the roof after three days, right,
But I think under normal circumstances, I am I think
two weeks pra I might be a little more generous
than most people.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
You are very generous now. They say around that six
day mark, that's when you know you start to really
drop the hints that it's time to go, which can
be the most awkward thing ever. Yeah, have you ever
had to drop in hints to get like family members
to leave?

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Not family, I mean a guy living on my couch
for like three months and I can throw them out.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
That's a true story. We'll say for another day.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
But I think, like most people when it comes to family,
I'm going to grin through the pain and bear it exactly.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
I say, like most of the time, when people are
over and it's like too much time, they're like, Okay,
I gotta go to sleep. But if they're sleeping over,
they're just staying over anyway.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
You can't use that.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Excuse, right, No, No, So I guess we're on the
hunt for the perfect excuse this morning, right.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
But either that, you've got to set those boundaries wan
advance absolutely.

Speaker 2 (11:16):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
