Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome and thanks for tuning in for Talk of the
Rock public affairs, community events, and public services for Central
Arkansas from the iHeartRadio Studios in Little Rock. Here's your host,
DJ Taylor.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
And thank you for joining us. DJ Taylor joined by
Peggy McCall from Miracle League in the band Midnight South.
It's a party going on in the studio. How's everybody
doing great good? Got a big event coming up, the
big doubleheader for Miracle League on September twenty sixth. So
much going on to help out the Miracle League, Peggy.
For those that don't know, the Miracle League is a

(00:34):
fantastic organization, nonprofit that helps folks with disabilities to enjoy
America's favorite pastime.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
It's right.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Yeah, we started at age four and go up. I
would never tell anyone know that they can come play baseball.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
And it is a fantastic time out there, whether you're
just sitting in the bleachers watching the game or if
you get a chance to be a buddy. I know
that's always been a big experience for me.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
And yeah, you've been out there.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, just getting getting to hang out with these kids,
kids and just getting to experience the game through their eyes,
through their emotions, through their through their parents' emotions.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Well, yes, because they get to sit in the stands
because people come out and volunteer. Absolutely, so that was
my goal and it's it takes five hundred volunteer hours
a game day for Northwest Arkansas and Little Rock to
execute our.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Games and a lot of fun memories that get to
be made there. Everybody gets to just go out and
have a great time and enjoy themselves. And if you'd
like to be a volunteer, by the way, super easy
to do that. There's there's a sign up on the website.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Yes, go to meracleagayr dot com in Northwest Arkansas. Click
on that tab Little Rock. Click on that one. Little
Rock feels up real quick. So if you didn't get
in this time, check because people fall out, you know,
life happens and they have to miss and so just
watch a website. But yeah, we'd love to love you
to come out. It is an experience. You'll walk away
different in a good way.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
You really do.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
It's it's not anything you can describe, really, that's true.
And there is a big old blanket of grace all
over that place because we have so many near misses.
So anyway, it's a great time. The kids are found,
the parents are so grateful. They love what we do,
and so come out and see us.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
And the fall season underway. Now that go us until.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
When October nineteenth.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Okay, so a few weeks left on schedule there and
it's every weekend.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yes, every Saturday and Friday. And this past Saturday or
past Sunday, we had our first home run derby, which
was killer awesome, and so many people who have never
been out there and seeing our players go, yeah, why
to home run derby. We got some folks that crush it,
I mean over the warehouse, hit the building, you know,

(02:46):
into the parking lot. So we can dispel a whole
lot of preconceived ideas about a person who's disabled in
a real quick heartbeat.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
So it's a good place.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
And guys, I got to tell you one of the
coolest things I've ever seen in my life. They have
a few visually impaired players that get up to bat
and they still get to swing at a ball that
is being thrown for them. How you explain that exactly?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
So we have a ball that beeps so they see
it with their ears.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Wow, it is it is really fun.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, it is, and it's and it's so impressive to
watch a person who is you know, blind to you know,
whatever degree, because there's no way I could trust like
they trust and we all know every other instinct you know,
peeks up. But still, I mean, I can zigzag across
the field and they track that ball perfectly.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
It's amazing. It's really cool.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
We have another cool machine that for people that have
cerebral palsy or and they're tight and they can't extend
their hands and arms and hold anything. It has a
big red button and it also beeps and we talk
a bat back, set the ball on the tee and
all they have to do is hit that button. You

(04:10):
should see Jacqueline when she does that. I mean it
is as if she hit a home run. I mean,
because she had control she did it, and she's just
so thrilled and happy every time she does.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, it is fantastic. And that's just some of the
moments in life, some of the memories created through the
Miracle League. And that's why we're talking about the big
fundraiser that's coming up on the twenty six the double
header for Miracle League. And this is gonna be a
full night. I mean, we're going to get to talk
to some of the players, some of the coaches, some
of the some of the big fans here in town.

(04:44):
Not to mention, there's gonna be a great dinner.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Yeah, so the bar, so we got all the components.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
And speaking of music, we have a player that is
going to be playing some music.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Hot himself how to play.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
He now writes lyric and music, and so that will
be really fun during dinner. He'll be up there on
his little keyboard, you.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Know, music going on for the dinner.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
But it's really fun to see our players just change
the mind of people.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
You know, they're such great teachers, they.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Really really are. And then of course you know you
got the dinner following that, you got Midnight South gonna
be taking the stage that evening. Guys, it is so
good to have you all back here in town and
in the studio. I know y'all have been super busy.
You opened over in well Down on the Beach this summer,
and last year it was Gulf Coast Jam, right.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Yes, Golf Coast Jam. This year we were on the
bill with Parker McCollum was the headliner that night. We
had a blast, great time. We've been fortunate enough to
be able to travel again this year and play some
cool places.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, a bunch of Arkansas boys getting up there on stage.
You've opened folks like Kenny Chesney for Parker McCollum. You've
got shows right now. You're on the road with Sister Hazel.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, that was another beat show we did a couple
of weeks ago. We played down in Destin with them.
It was an awesome show, a lot of fun. Tomorrow
morning we head out for Birmingham. Oh, we'll play there
tomorrow night and then back because we're getting to play
a wedding on Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Nice. So you got a lot of stuff going on
with that, and of course a lot of new music
going on with you guys. As a matter of fact,
at the time of this airing, you guys will have
a brand new song out, just releasing this weekend. You
wanna tell me a little bit about that one.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
I'm sure you want to take that one, Darren, I
do not.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
I'm gonna let cheremy do it.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
So we've been back and forth to Nashville pretty consistently,
probably the past three or four months, working with our
producer Aaron Gillespie and our new producer, Adam Hamburg. This
specific song is called Piece of Me and it's featuring
another rock Ridge artist, Aaron Gibney. He's phenomenal. We've done
a couple of shows with her here in Arkansas. We

(07:03):
played with her in Nashville, and when we met her
we started writing this song. We knew that her vocals
on it was kind of what it needed to kind
of be just taking over the top, kind of get
the excitement in. So that comes out tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
We're stoked about that.

Speaker 7 (07:16):
We have new music coming out in October song called
Villain's New Music. In November, we've got another Christmas two
and coming out. So our goal is for the next
six months to have a new release every month. So
we're super pumped, super grateful and ready for y'all to
hear it.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Absolutely, we going to hear any of the new music
on the twenty six. You guys going to play some
of the new stuff for us, give us kind of
a sneak preview.

Speaker 5 (07:38):
Yeah, we will. There's not want to talk today. Yeah,
we'll definitely be throwing in some of our new music
for sure. Give a little taste of it and see
what people.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Think fantastic, And then I understand you guys also have
some items that are going to be going in for
the auction that is coming up on the twenty six
to help out Miracle League.

Speaker 6 (08:00):
To prove Matt wrong. I'm gonna take this picked my moments,
pick them wisely. So we've we've got some some cool stuff. Gosh,
hats teacher, just a lot of band merch, right, so
a lot of things like that, and I did want
to bring this up. We get to play with one
of our heroes, Aaron Tippin wowing a few weeks ago,
so right, and Aaron Tippin told us we sounded great,

(08:22):
so that is we can die happy now We're good.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (08:25):
But yeah, we're super excited about Miracle League and super
excited about this event, so we we had to throw
in some merch and some swags.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
So if you've got a guitar for you guys to sign,
and yes, we forgot.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
About the guitar, which is weird because it's sitting right
behind you. Yeah, so I think we're all going to
sign it, and that'll be a really cool item.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Fantastic looking forward to it. Some great music from a
bunch of Arkansas guys, and of course the dinner and
this there will be a silent auction and a live auction,
isn't I right? Okay, so cool? You want to you
want to do some name dropping on that, and I've
got a lot of stuff you're excited about this year.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Well, we do Sissy's log cabinets. Come on board with us,
so gentlemen, you can get your Christmas shopping done early.
We have a Costa Rica trip for seven days. And
what's great about it is there's two locations and you
can use them both or you can just stay in
want one's on the beach and one's.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
In the mountains.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
So it's super cool, and it's seven days, which is
unusual for trips. You guys are baseball fans, and we've
got a spring training trip out in Arizona with the
d Bags. Brandon the picture that was in the All
Star Game thought is going to be the host of
that and so that'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
So yeah, sounds pretty fantastic. And now let's talk tickets
because if you want to get a ticket, I know
this thing is going to fill up. Okay, there's going
to be a huge crowd. It's going to be a
whole lot of fun. If somebody wants to get tickets,
what's the price range.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
It's one hundred for a single, one hundred and fifty
for a couple. Okay, so yeah, go to Miracle League
ar dot com, click on the doubleheader and get you tickets.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
We're sponsorship.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I was gonna ask about that. If somebody wants to sponsor,
like a table, if they want to maybe a community
group or maybe a work group. Yeah, you know, boss,
you want to take the take the guys out for
dinner and enjoy this great show. Uh, tables are still
available as.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Well, Yes, all right, you can always find room.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
And then and then this show is going to be
at the hall, right, so this is going to be
a fantastic place. You've never been to the Hall. It's
an amazing venue. That stage is awesome, the sound system
is great. Uh. And are you gonna have You're gonna
do tables like on the floor and on the balcony too.
You're gonna have them up on the fantastic we'll put yes, Yeah,

dinner at seven. We're gonna have some mood music, got.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
So it's going to be great. Darnell's one of our
players and he's a great musician that has taught himself.
So people will be have fun with that, no doubt
about it.

Speaker 6 (11:12):
We might be replacing Jeremy with him.

Speaker 7 (11:16):
Maybe an audition that means I get to go out
and eat during that time.

Speaker 3 (11:20):

with the auction a little bit. A lot of great
live auction items they're going to be up for grabs
as well as we help out the Miracle League and
their cause. And I do want to encourage you. Oh

(11:43):
I need to mention this too. If you have someone
with a disability of some type that would like to
be a part of the team, it is not too
late to register.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Right, Yeah, we never.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
I mean, if you find out about us the week,
beat our last game, show up the ball and you're
gonna play.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
I won't turn it one way, can't do it.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
That is fantastic. So you can make sure that you
check the schedule. It is on the website there. What's
that address.

a good group.

Absolutely, yeah, we want to thank Peggy just your passion
in the work you do for involving us. That means
a lot. We love baseball, we love our community, so
we jump at the opportunity to give back. So we
appreciate you including us in this. It's gonna be a
good night, every buddy.
