Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome and thanks for tuning in for Talk of the
Rock public affairs, community events, and public services for Central
Arkansas from the iHeartRadio Studios in Little Rock. Here's your host,
DJ Taylor.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
And thank you for joining us. I'm DJ Taylor, joined
by Peggy McCall. How are you, Miracle League lady.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
I'm doing well. I'm ready for the seat to break
so we can play some ball. You are not kidding.
And of course, team registration going on right now for
the fall season of Miracle League.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Tell me about that.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah, we start playing September sixth and seventh, but we
need registrations in now because we've got to get the jerseys,
get them ordered, get their names on them. And there's
a lot to it, more than people realize. So it's time.
Go to Miracle League aar dot com and register your player.
And we have a few slots left if you want
to come out and volunteer and buddy side by side.
(00:50):
It's a barrel of fun, it really will. You will
be glad you did. And those are always on Saturdays, yes,
and that is.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Always a great way to spend your time. Don't let
the idea of what it is get in the way
or hinder you from signing up, because I mean it
just it warms your heart. It really does.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
When you get to be a buddy and you have
this idea of what it's going to be like when
you're registering and stuff, and then when you hit the ballpark.
Most people tell me it's really different than they expected
because it's not about the disability. It's about the kid
and the player. And some are young adults and just fun.
(01:28):
You know. I know they've got a disability, I know
what they are. I don't study that. That's not important
their kid. We want parents to have memories and let's
get out and play.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's all about going out and having fun. And for
those that don't know, Miracle League is a baseball organization
for those that may have mental or physical disabilities. Correct
a non traditional ball game is what I like to
see because we all win at this game. Absolutely, we do.
Lots of cheer, even the buddies, and the buddies win
big time. And if you've never seen it, the ball
(01:57):
that makes noise, yeah, is got to be one of
the coolest things I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Right, And it's even cooler to watch the players that
use that ball navigate the field, so we have a
ball that beats for those that are blind or impaired,
and so it is fascinating. I am still fascinated after
eighteen years of how they will track that ball when
I move it across the field and not miss a lick.
It's so much fun. It's amazing, truly amazing.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It really is a sight to see and it really
is just a fantastic time out there at the ballpark.
And the ballpark is made especially for these players so
that everyone is safe in addition to having fun, and
there's a lot that goes into that too.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, there is. We have a new turfield that we
only play have played a season on. It's terrific. It
is soft enough, you know, if someone was to fall
to protect a giant's head injury and stuff like that,
but anyway, yeah, it's soft. It's like it's a big
time field. You know. We used to have tile and
now we have turf. And the kids were the first
(03:05):
game in, they're like, what did you do to our
film is taking? I was like, well I fixed it
and they're like, oh, I don't know. You know, someone
weren't sure about it. So everyone's getting used to it's beautiful.
But then once they get going, it is it is
all about it. And one of the things that I
love about this this is not a for profit type event.
(03:26):
This is all about the players and all about making
sure everybody has fun. And Miracle League of Arkansas got
a big fundraiser coming up to help with the costs
associated with the field and with everything else that's going on.
The Miracle League double Header, this is coming up on
September twenty sixth at the Hall. Tell me about this.
The boots, the bats, the home runs, the whole thing
(03:47):
and a big fun night is all I got to say.
The band is going to be off the heck yeah
and in our group Yeah, Midnight South, and tell them
about the opening. You know you didn't know more about
that and.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
The Midnight South. I love these guys. They're very talented,
they're very friendly, some good pokes and Midnight South. You know.
They've opened for Kenny Chesney, They've opened for Morgan Wallin,
They've opened shows across the country. They're constantly on the road.
They were a Vocal Group of the Year at thecma's
this year, so as great seeing them get the hardware.
They're going to be performing at the Hall on September
(04:24):
twenty sixth, So a great night not only live music,
but you also have a live and a silent auction.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yes we did coming up that night. Tell me a
little bit about what people can expect there. So we'll
have dinner and beverage. Of course, the doors open at
six point thirty, so you can get in there. Seven
o'clock is dinner. You can start pruising the auction items.
We're going to do it all mobile and online so
that you can keep on raising that mid when you're
having a conversation. But we have got this seven day
(04:53):
Costa Rica trip, which is everybody that I've heard that
have gone to We've got a board member that went
said it was literally off the hi. It sounds off
the hook because you have two houses. One is in
the mountains, one is on the beach, Costa Rica style,
so you've got some open air stuff going on, and
it's five bedrooms five baths at both places. So imagine
(05:17):
wanting to take your family someplace, but not wanting to
be with him the whole time. You go to the
mountains for three days, we'll go to the beach and
you swap and you can do that, or if you're
an executive and want to really do something great for
your employees, make them day in the middle the planning retreat,
you know, and you have except both houses or the
(05:40):
folks that I know. They went with five couples and
they had an absolute blast. So that is a super trip.
Ran into one of my volunteers, ran into a guy
named Kendall Horton. Now he have you if you've ever
met him, I'm sure you would never forget him. He
was on Shark Tank. Guys have talked to him before
for he makes custom cowboy hats and off the hook.
(06:04):
He can do anything. You sent me some pictures. I
look forward to meeting him. Another big live auction item
we have this year is a spring training trip. So
we have some friends in the MLB, the Mira co
League does and so they're going to put together a
spring training trip and that I've always wanted to do
(06:28):
that because it's just so different. It's like old school,
small town great baseball, you know, it's and then you
get to see all the great players getting ready for
the season. So it's going to be a terrific trip. Also,
private dinner, We've got a great private dinner. Chef comes in,
brings everything. All you do is open up your house
(06:48):
and he does it all here. It's terrific. So we'll
have lots of restaurants and other things midnight South We've
got going to do something with them for our auction.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
So it'll be a great night, fantastic and of course
all the proceeds helping to benefit the Miracle League of
Arkansas and just a lot of fun for everybody.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
