Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome and thanks for tuning in for Talk of the
Rock public affairs, community events, and public services for Central
Arkansas from the iHeartRadio Studios in Little Rock. Here's your host,
DJ Taylor, and.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thank you for joining us for a special edition to
Talk of the Rock. DJ Taylor in the studio and
I'm joined by Dustin Moseley, tech Star, Canon Native. And
if you're a fan of MLB at all, you have
seen this man throw a few pitches. It's great to
have you here. I'm honored to have you in the studio.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Thanks for having me absolutely.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Now, we got something very special. It's coming up on Sunday.
This will be September the eighth, and it's going on
at Junior Deputy Park and we're going to have a
great time skills and drills, getting to meet baseball stars
and it's all to benefit the friends of ours over
at Miracle League. Now, first of all, how did you
get in touch with Peggy? How long have you been
(00:51):
a part of the Miracle League family.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, so two thousand and six, my agent, Derek Bronker
introduced me to Peggy as well as all the other guys,
and he really kind of just motivated us to become
part of it. Help with the first camps that we did,
and we did our first doubleheader, which was a camp.
In the morning, we did a Dicky Stevens and then
at night we had a big fundraiser and that's where
it all started. And then as the years went we were playing,
(01:14):
it kind of fell off on the camp piece of it.
They were still doing some fundraisers. And then when I
started performing Sports Academy, we had kind of have conversations
through the years, and I guess it was three years
ago I said, hey, let us get this camp going again.
We could really make this high level camp. Kids could
learn a ton. So we got everybody engaged, got Peggy
(01:34):
convinced of allowing us to kind of bring it back
and host it for him. And last year we had
a great turnout. We had major league players, we had
a ton of Arkansas Razorbacks, minor league guys, and we're
going to have the same thing. I think I've got
a total of sixteen guys that either formerly played professionally
or collegiately, or currently playing professionally or collegiately.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
That is fantastic And of course for those who don't
know performance here in little rock that's been around for
a few years. A lot of great training facility to
offer up there as well.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yes, sir, yeah, a little over ten years we've been open.
We've had hundreds of professional athletes come through, probably thousands
of collegiate players by now. We have some of the
best staff in the country, best facility in the country.
We have every bit of technology you can imagine. We
have twenty four thousand square feet. We've got recovery room,
(02:26):
hit tracks, we've got track man, we've got you name it.
We've got radar guns and led boards all over the facility.
So we've invested a lot into this and the kids
that are really serious about baseball, as we always say,
not good will help you get good. But if you're
serious about the game, you're passionate about the game, performances
spot for you.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Absolutely, and of course a lot of those tips and
tricks that be shared out this weekend. If you've got
a ballplayer at home, ages seven to fourteen, Now this
is boys and girls, right.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yes, sir, it is going to be baseball, but boys
and girls are welcome. You know, there's a lot of
little girls that we train that are still playing baseball
and hope continue to play baseball. But yes, everyone is welcome.
We're going to have a ton again. College players, Arkansas
Razorback players are coming down. We've got ULR Trojan players
coming in as well as minor league players that are
(03:15):
going to come and be a part of this. So
the first ninety minutes of this camp, the kids will
learn a lot. They're going to get a lot of information,
get to hang out with the guys. These guys will
all be running the different fields, and then when we
finished up, they'll be able to get their autographs, hang
out with them. Parents can talk to them, ask them questions,
kind of the process, and then we'll flow over to
the Miracle field.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Very cool, and of course a game going on with that,
hot dogs and things like that going on as well,
So everybody gets to learn a little bit, get a
little bit of lunch, catch a game, and then like
you were saying, scooting over to the Miracle League field
and getting to watch a home run derby with those kids. Now,
I don't know about you. I've had the chance to
be a buddy YEP at Miracle League a few times
and it really is just a heartwarming experience to see
(03:58):
these kids get out and enjoy America's favorite pastime.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
For sure. For sure, the fact that you know this
organization and Peggy's done such a good job of creating
the opportunity for these kids to be able to participate
in the greatest game on Earth, in my opinion, and
then for us to be involved with it. I tell
the guys all the time, and I get a little
emotional when i'm telling it because you go out there,
especially when you first get into it, and you think,
(04:22):
all right, I'm giving this is going to be great.
Me me, me, right, there's this this idea, and you're
also kind of a little bit like, well, I haven't
been around these kids. I don't know. I don't want
to say something, I don't want to offend, I don't
want to do anything. Then you get out there and
you leave and you go, dude, I can't wait to
go back. I got more out of that then I
gave to those kids. And it's just a beautiful cause,
beautiful thing. And see the parents get to sit in
(04:44):
the stands and watch their babies play. It's amazing. You
can hear my voice. I'm passionate about it.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Oh yeah, it absolutely is. And of course Miracle League
AR dot com. You can go by and find out
about volunteer opportunities or if you have a child that's
interested in being a part of Merria the League, there's
details on that now. As far as the camp going
on this Sunday, it will be skills and drills ages
seven to fourteen, have the game, go for the home
(05:09):
run derby thereafter, and if you want to get tickets,
they are still available at the website their PROFORMANCELR dot com.
So tell us a little bit about.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
That, Yes, sir, if you just go to our website,
you click on the camp's link, there's a little tab
at the top. Click on that, you go in, you'll
enter your athlete's name. It's seventy five dollars. It'll all
punch through. We have all that information and all you
have to do is show up. We're asking everyone to
show up at twelve thirty, get everybody checked in, get
(05:40):
them moved to the fields appropriate for their age. So
we'll have seven and eight's together, nine and tens together,
eleven and twelves and then thirteen and fourteen, so they'll
have their separate fields. We'll get them over there and
that way when they play they're not nine year olds,
won't have to play against fourteen year olds.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Sure, yeah, yeah, no kidding, that's yeah, that's a fantastic
way to get it set up. Seventy five bucks for
the mission for that, and then of course you're a
baseball player, going to get some amazing tips and tricks
and a lot of learning involved as they move forward
with the game of baseball. And then of course knowing
that you're helping out the Miracle League and those amazing
(06:13):
kids that play there. They're kicking off the season this
weekend as a matter of fact.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
So opening weekend, man, we'll be out there Saturday. We've
got ten buddies, so we're going to go coach from
twelve to fifteen to two fifteen with my performance staff
and then we'll have a little get together that night
with all the guys coming into town. But it is great,
you know, we're just trying to create as much awareness
as possible. If you're a fan of baseball and you
haven't seen Miracle League or been a part of it,
just come out and watch a game. They're playing every
(06:39):
Friday and Saturday, and will I think for the next
two or three months, and if you guys, if you
come out, I promise you you'll you'll have a great time.
It'll make your Friday or Saturday worthwhile.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Absolutely, I mean it is. It is heartwarming, whether you're
in the stands or whether you're a buddy out there
on the field helping somebody out. It is just fantastic.
So wait any preconceived notions you have about what it
might be like for these kids, because I guarantee you
they are having the time of their life out there.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
They are. And there's some kids out there that are
incredibly competitive.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
And if you don't have your glove up and you're
out there, buddy, and you're gonna wear one off your forehead. Yeah,
So there's some dudes out there that can play.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Oh yeah, absolutely. And what really gets me, And let
me know what you think about this as well, because
I bring it up to Peggy every single time there
are a couple of visually impaired players out there with
Miracle League. And to see that ball, the beeping ball
that comes out, it's just unreal. These kids that I mean,
you could say they're visually impaired. There's a child out
(07:43):
there genuinely blind and just getting to play the game
of baseball. You can see the look on their face
when they make contact. That is I mean, yeah, I'm
getting all choked up here just thinking about it. But
it is a fantastic site. It really is.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
It is It is just a feel of the bat
to the ball, you know, the balling to the glove.
I mean, those are those little things century wise that
because we do have sight, sure we don't pay attention
too much, but you know, that's sometimes the crack of
the bat, the feel right, the receiving, the throwing is
just such such a huge part of the game that
we will probably take for granted, you know. And so
(08:19):
it's fun to see these kids get an opportunity to
get to participate in baseball.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
And a smile on their face the second they hear
that sound. It is just it makes everything worthwhile, all right.
So the camp is coming up with this Sunday proformance
lr dot com Hit the Camps tab. Admission is seventy
five dollars. It's ages seven to fourteenth. All the details
there on the website. Dustin Mosley, thank you so much
for being here and helping out with Miracle League. Man.
(08:44):
It's such a treat.
