Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome and thanks for tuning in for Talk of the
Rock public affairs, community events, and public services for Central
Arkansas from the iHeartRadio studios in Little Rock. Here's your host,
DJ Taylor.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
And thank you for joining us. I'm DJ Taylor. I'm
joined by Shuri with Arkansas Health and Wellness SEXPO and
am Better. Now. For those that don't know, and Better
is big on helping our Kansons in the health insurance community.
Tell me a little bit about what y'all do.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Well. First of all, thank you for having me, chirst Yeah, absolutely,
I would love to tell you what we do. We
are a affordable health insurance marketplace plan, and so we
like to make sure our members have the tools they
need to take charge of their health. Okay, and members,
our and Better members have a variety of benefits offered
(00:47):
to them that support that. Some of the ones that
are more popular, like are my Health Page program, which
is a rewards program that you earn points and which
turns into cash for things you're likely already doing.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Oh wow, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, like getting your annual exams for instance. Okay, So
we have a variety of benefits for our members. We
have a twenty four our nurses line, we have things
for expected mothers.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
So yeah, and then and then of course you guys
do like the mail order pharmacy stuff you do the
digital ID cards. Those are that's important because I am
always forgetting where I put my wallet. I'm all, yeah,
losing track of that sort of thing. So definitely a
big help there. Now, what about this. You said that
(01:36):
there's a lot of benefits for pregnant moms. Can you
tell me a little bit about that.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yes, that's our One of the programs we have is
to start Smart for Baby Awesome, and so members who
are in that program will have like a case manager,
like a nurse working with them throughout from their pregnancy
throughout the first year of life with their infant okay, yeah,
helping them seek services they meet they may need, coordinate
any medical care things of that nature.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Well, I'll tell you, as a dad of three, I
know for a fact little ones don't come with an
instruction book. That is so true, and for somebody to
step up and help out, especially in that first year,
because that first year is so tough. They're not sleeping
at night. There's all kinds of questions, especially for new parents.
So great to see somebody stepping up and really taking
(02:22):
care of that. And I love the fact that Anne
Better is taking care of the community here in Arkansas.
Wanting to make sure that everybody has the best healthcare possible,
want to make sure that everybody takes care of their
health as well, and that's why you've got a huge
event that is coming up on the fourteenth. Tell me
about the Arkansas Health and Wellness Fair that's coming up.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I would love to. It is, like you said, at Saturday,
September fourteenth, it is here in Little Rock at the
West Central Community Center on Colonel Glenn. That's eight six
one sixth Colonel Glynn. And so we're going to have
several community partners, So we'll have local partners, but then
we'll also have some that'll come from around the state.
(03:05):
We'll have when we think about health, we think holistically,
so we'll have health screenings like blood pressure, glucose a
one C BMI, that type of thing. But we'll also
have educational resources that you may benefit from mental health providers.
They're providing information and doing some screenings. Nutrition is very
(03:26):
important for your health as well, so we've partnered with
well Fed Arkansas I don't know if you're familiar with that.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I know well fed Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, they're great, and so they've been partnering with us
this year at our events, and actually this is the
second year. They were with us last year as well,
and they're going to set up a mobile market. So
we're going to have fresh fruits and vegetables and grains
available and each family will leave with a bag of
groceries free of charge.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
That is fantastic. And of course all of these services
free to the public.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
That is correct. Everything is free to the public. And
we want to just not only provide information and the screenings,
but like for instance, for members who come and their
blood pressure is high while supplies last, we'll have some
blood pressure kits, so we'll make sure they leave with
a whole little package of information that includes the blood
pressure kit and how to better monitor that and share
(04:18):
that information like a blood pressure journal is in there,
and information about healthy nutrition.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
So that is fantastic. Now this is coming up, like
you said, September fourteenth at the West Central Community Center.
It's eighty six sixteen, Colonel Glenn right here in Little Rock.
You plug that in your phone, it'll take you right
to the spot. Now, if if somebody can't attend because
you know, maybe they've got plans, or maybe they can't
get out that day, maybe they don't have transportation, what
(04:45):
are some other ways that they can get involved with
the healthfare?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
That is a great question. Well, the healthfare. We have
four healthfairs a year. Okay, this is our fourth one
for twenty twenty four, So after this healthfare will be
we're planning soon though we'll get twenty twenty five. Often
run in here before you know it. But as far
as getting more information about us and other resources that
we have on our website, there's a ton of health
(05:11):
resources on our and Better website. They can go to
Andbetter dot a r health Wellness dot com. Okay, they
can also find us on Facebook. We share a lot
of health information there as well and Better Health. And
then they can call our customer, Caroline if they have
more specific questions about becoming a member, or if they're
already a member and they have questions. That is the
(05:33):
eight seven seven six one seven zero three nine.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Zero fantastic and t T y as well. Eight seven
seven six one seven zero three nine to two. Yes,
thank you for sharing that so lots of great information
available to you there, and of course all of those
great programs through and better. The my Health Pays thing
that is just really cool to me because I mean,
you get points on everything else. You get points when
(05:57):
you go to the store, you get points, when you
go here, you go there, you get a hotel. So
why not with your health insurance too.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
It's a great incentive and you can use that to
pay you know, various bills and yeah, I love it,
and our members seem to love it as well.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Fantastic. Yeah it works. I mean, especially these days with
pharmacy costs and things like that. My wife on insulin,
you know, that is a huge thing for a lot
of folks here in Arkansas. So definitely helps out. And
then of course, if you want to find out more
about Ambetter, that website again Ambetter dot Arhealth Wellness dot com.
(06:34):
And of course the big health and Wellness community health
Fare coming up September fourteenth, West Central Community Center. That
is eighty six sixteen Colonel Glenn here in Little Rock
and it's Saturday, September fourteenth from twelve to three, So
mark your calendar, set the alarm on your phone, whatever
it takes just make sure that you're there because it
(06:55):
is important to keep an eye on your health.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
It is, It absolutely is.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
And especially with blood pressure, with your A one C,
with things like that, something that sometimes people don't get
a chance to really check that, they don't really get
a chance to monitor that like they want to or
like they should. And this is a great way to
get that conversation started, especially with all the extra stuff
that comes with some of those packets. That's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Absolutely, And actually one of the benefits that I didn't mention,
which we're really excited about this year, is the maternal
health and issue. You know, in Arkansas, we're as a whole,
so many of our community partners are looking at the
needs of our expected mothers. Yes, and what we've done
is partner with farm Box RX and so for those
pregnant members, they can receive up to four farm boxes
(07:45):
delivered to their house. They can customize them, they can
do you know, there's a variety of packages based on
if you want pre cooked things, or you want more
can goods or fresh fruits and vegetables, because we know
nutrition is very important for expecting mothers especially.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Absolutely it is. You know, I read a statistic not
too long ago when my wife was pregnant with our youngest,
that a mom during pregnancy has the same cardiovascular strain
as somebody training for an ultra marathon.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I can believe the one hundred miler types stuff. I
can definitely believe it. As someone who's carried two kiddos.
It is something.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Oh absolutely, yeah, no kidding. So every little bit helps.
And like you were saying about the first year program
for Expectant Marsmart for babies, yeah, that is fantastic, and
details about that on the website. And also if you're
on Facebook and Better Health a great page. It's updated
a lot, so that's fantastic. There's lots of information there.
(08:42):
Definitely want to check it out, and I'm sure most
of those things will be on display and for discussion
at the health fare.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah, we'll have information about all of those things there for.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
You, all right, So if you'd like to know more
about am better or if you want to find out
just general health screenings, demonstrations, all kinds of stuff, even
some giveaways, yes, going on there.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
We'll have some giveaways. We always have door prizes, We
have great door prices. We bring door prices, but also
our vendors who come, they'll be giving away door prizes
at their tables, and a couple other screenings that we
didn't talk about that think are great to mention. Sure,
you'll have some STD and HIV screenings. We'll have some
prostate cancer screening. That's another you know, important healthy get check. Yes,
(09:26):
yes we don't. And we'll have someone there doing some
physical health demonstration. Oh good, okay, like plates, we'll have
someone doing posture checks with from a from a chiropractic office.
And please bring the kids with you. Don't feel like
you have to find a place or get a babysitter
because we will have family entertainment there as well. We'll
have face painter, we'll have some yard games out so
(09:48):
the kids can, you know, play and have a good
time while you're walking around getting that great information.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Fantastic and it's never too early to start teaching your
kids about better health and about health respect, onsibility, taking
care of yourself, making sure that you eat healthy, you exercise,
that you check these things like blood pressure and sugar
on a regular basis, so that if something were to
develop later, they would know immediately, yes, that it needed
(10:15):
to be looked at. By a health professional. So because
what is they'll saying a ounce of prevention is worth
a pound of cure. Yes, so, I mean you definitely
want to make sure that you're on top of it,
and no better place to start than the Health and
Wellness Fair coming up on September fourteenth, West Central Community
Center on Colonel Glenn with Ambetter and Shuri. Thank you
(10:36):
so much for coming in today talking about this, sharing
it with us, and looking forward to seeing you on
the fourteenth.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, thank you for giving me an opportunity to do so,
and Little Rock, we can't wait to see you September fourteenth,
twelve to three.
