Speaker 1 (00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam talking your teams.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A team?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
A should I use my Vince McMahon voice to say
what hasn't even been confirmed yet? Day's back?
Speaker 3 (00:23):
That's right?
Speaker 4 (00:23):
Can a stadium arena full of tens of thousands of
people waiting for the pop and the entrance that they
don't even know is coming or not.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
That's wand tact times. That's Sunday.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Nyed suggested earlier this week there might have been some
gamesmanship from the Texans. I would suggest there was, considering
they opened up the practice window for Nico Collins today.
Nico Collins was at practice today, like practiced on a Friday,
inside the stadium as per usual, on top of the
(00:58):
newly painted turf, red end zone and all sorts of
red accents around the stadium you will see on Sunday
night football for the Texans in their candy red and
their red chrome helmets. He was wearing his today, but
the injury report has not arrived. He's not even on
the active roster yet. But they don't play today or Saturday,
(01:21):
and they don't travel, so they don't play Sunday at
noon either. Yeah, the opportunity to make all those logistical
things happen while the road and path to that has
been opened up. That's a great possibility that he's out there.
Another practice missed for Will Anderson Junior. Couldn't even let
you have it for more than three minutes. Likelihood of
him playing this week and is very slim. We had
(01:43):
our guest from Detroit on yesterday, justin Rodgers, and it
was just a few minutes actually after the Lions have
put their injury report out for Thursday, and their starting
left tackle was a surprise addition to it. Not gonna
practice today either, according to Dan Campbell, And they said,
I got to see how the next forty eight hours
go to see if he will be available for Sunday
(02:04):
night football, and certainly if he is, I would suggest
he's not at one hundred percent extent of the injury.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Really don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Even the media there was a little unsure of it.
Today was the first day they had a chance to
ask him about it. He's been their starter since he
was drafted there, and we talked about how they built
their offensive line, but clearly the Texans can do different
things with Nico Collins on the field the first four
games of the season. They got three wins in those
four games with Nico Collins out there. The fifth game
(02:32):
that he played, they also won. They won it in
the same manner with Nico, kind of the way you
won the first game that Aaron Rodgers started as a
New York Jets quarterback. He was one to zero as
a starter during his first season with the Jets, because
he did start the game and even had a few plays.
(02:52):
Nico Collins played nine snaps in that fifth game of
the season. Now granted one of the nine. The last
of the nine resulted in a very long, beautiful touchdown pass,
So he certainly impacted their win over the Buffalo Bills.
But he missed nearly all of their win over the
Buffalo Bills, and the team has won two of their
four games since, lost two of the three sins.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
And we'll see the injury report.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I would imagine he'll be listed as a limited participant,
and I don't believe I think he will be listed
as questionable, as have previous players they've had that aren't
yet on the active roster. Kurt Highness was in that
situation earlier this year, Dylan Horton. Similarly, they opened up
their practice windows, they went through light practices, and they
(03:36):
were listed as questionable and then ultimately made their return.
Jerry Hughes and Jeff Akuda probably be listed as the
same and know a little bit more about it, probably
during the day Sunday and certainly ninety minutes before kickoff
on Sunday night.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Well, by the.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Way, have you checked in on the line, just as
far as since he knows even put on there.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Here's the rule.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
If Nicocollins, Von Diggs, Will Anderson, JJ Watt, Andre Johnson,
and Arian Foster were all activated for this game at
their current ages, their line probably possibly would move a
half a point, possibly, but not even definitely. The return
of Nico Collins is not very likely to impact the line,
(04:20):
certainly not by four thirty it should. He hasn't returned yet, yeah,
but if he does, let's say he's made active, which
is when Vegas would find out whatever the line is
at that time. Unless again, they will obviously react to news,
they will react more quickly or more noticeably to money.
I don't think anyone is going to lay wagers large
(04:42):
enough attacks.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
This guy was leading the league in receiving, Like two
weeks after he had gone on IR still like he's
not just a receiver they're getting back. He's one of
the top five best in the game. I'm familiar with him,
I've met him. I get it. You can't get it
to it doesn't matter. That's all I've said for weeks.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
What if I told you, in addition to what I
don't think is gonna happen to the line, what if
I told you he's gonna have five catches for one
hundred and seventeen yards in a touchdown. I don't know
that they won the game. I don't know that they
scored twenty four points. I don't know that they scored
forty points. I think if he plays, he's going to
impact the game. I think if he plays, he's going
to have his usual I'm a tough cover, I'm a
(05:23):
valuable outlet for CJ. And they will be able to
get him in the ball. But it's not necessarily going
to flip what's going to happen in the game.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
In my opinion, I know that the timing is different,
but for example, just as like a parallel, and I'm
not saying he has this big of an impact on
his team as this guy does on his.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
But when Christian.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Mccaffery's activated, you would think that that would change some
sort of gambling parameters to a game that he's involved in.
You would think he would, but I guess he does
more for their team.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
We also have to factor what have they been without him?
The record tells you one thing, but not necessarily what
they've acted been able to do without him. You know
what their offense is like, what their running game is like.
Playing all these games without them, the Niners are fifth
in total yards, They're third in the NFC in rushing
(06:12):
yards per game.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
It feels like they're doing all right. They're fourth in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Now, he clearly does more than that, and Jordan Mason
has also been hurt, so you have to factor that in.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
He changes what they do.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Granted any elite player does, but it doesn't necessarily mean, well,
they couldn't win before, now they will. They couldn't come
within three and a half points and now, which the
line should be even.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
It just it's that just doesn't work that way.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
I recognize the difference it makes, and I am equally
as excited.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
I just don't have a Vince McMahon voice. So here's
the deal.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I don't think and this is a good rule of thumb,
and I'm dead serious when I say this. It is
a good rule of thumb that if the team is
putting the player on their Instagram account, for example, saying
that they're at practice in the candy red helmet, he's playing,
they're not gonna do all this and then we're gonna
keep out. Yes, I totally he's playing. Yes, we just
got been talking about how they haven't activated him. Well,
(07:03):
there's no reason to until you have to, which is
what's the latest they can Well, usually it's a Saturday before.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Again, I don't know this specific time on Saturday. I
think it's related to when your kickoff is on Sunday.
You know, players that don't travel when you're on the road,
if they don't travel, and you have to make note
of that league wide. Obviously you have to change their
status for the game. If they were questionable and they
did not get on the team playing, you downgrade them
to out. And from a roster standpoint, if you're going
(07:32):
to elevate players, that has to be done in advance
on the day before, by whatever that time is, and similarly,
I think to be able to have him on the
roster active for the game, I think the same would apply.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Okay, I'm trying to again.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
I'll go back to how they handled it with Highness
and Horton for verification.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
I do feel better about this game already.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I know I've been just you must have run out
of Kleenex by Friday.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Well, I wouldn't crying.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I mean, if you want to say I was moderately whiny,
and I guess I would, Okay that.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I mean you probably if you sniffled enough and looked
up high enough in the air, you probably allowed the
watering to not actually drip down your face.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah, probably right. Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
I don't think it was that bad. I just didn't.
I didn't feel good about it. Look, I know this
Stefon Diggs was brought in. You throw up a little
in your mouth at least.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
I I look, it was crazy to me when we
would sit here and we would look at those two
guys as numbers side by side before Digs got hurt,
and I guess technically before Nico got hurt, even though
those kind of overlapped. But I truly thought that when
I did that, I would look and see that, you know,
(08:40):
Nico was just head and shoulders above him in production,
and it turned out they were like almost identical. It
was a little bit better for Nico, but it was
in fewer games too, I believe. When we looked at
those numbers, and I think this was like two weeks ago,
I want to say, uh, I'm not really catches yards touched.
(09:00):
Nico Collins is still seventy one yards ahead of him.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
Yeah, I know, but that's what I'm getting at here.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
This is even though they went and got Stefan Diggs
in the offseason, and that's gonna buy out for all
intents and purposes, it's going to wind up being a dud.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Well.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I bring it up then because we kind of moved
into some other things, but I definitely think it's a
worthwhile topic at some point.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
It doesn't have much.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Bearing on the game or anything else, but so much
discussion about the team, their moves, Casario addressing every single
possible area on the team except.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
For one one that needed it.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
I didn't even I mean, I could probably do this
specialist solid. He actually changed their three specialists this offseason
and so far not for the better with Tommy Townsend
replacing Cam Johnston. Presumably Johnston wouldn't have blown out his
knee and been lost for the season in Week one
as he was with the Steelers. But those types of
moves that most teams every couple of years, unless they're
(09:51):
dead set on keeping that prelayer forever, they do make
those moves. But we were talking about the offensive line
in Caserio when we had Jonathan Alexander on earlier this
he described that move as unsuccessful. The addition of Stefan Diggs,
the trade for him, what was given up, the restructure
of the contract, and what ultimately played out. You got
eight games of Stefan Diggs in a seventeen game season
(10:15):
and a season you expect to win the division in
a season you expected to go to the playoffs with
or without him, and now it'll be without him. After
you got the half almost half a season with him.
I described it as a success. And then you look
at the big picture the offense. The offense is definitely
not better than it was last year, even though they've
run the ball tremendously well with Joe Mixon, but it
(10:39):
hasn't been better and it's totally unfair to say, yeah,
bringing Digs in here made the offense less successful. It
lowered the effectiveness of the passing game. What a dumb move,
because we clearly know why, but I'm not sure what
the individual expectations were outside the organization, ours and everybody else's,
you know, digs numbers at the end of the season
would have been exactly what I thought they would be,
(11:01):
hovering around one thousand yards, hovering around ninety ninety five,
maybe one hundred catches, and you kind of look back
at some of the over unders on those things that
was right in that neighborhood. Catches were a little bit
lower than that because he wasn't coming here to repeat
his role that he'd played for about eight years, his
last four years and one stop and all four years
in the other he was the guy.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
He was the number one. He was going to get
one hundred.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
And sixty targets, he was going to catch one hundred
and fifteen passes. It was never going to be like
that in Houston unless he was playing week after week
after week without Nico Collins. He played two plus games
or three basically total games without him, his numbers didn't
really even change they happened to coincide with when the
offense played its worst. His three games without him in
(11:47):
full till he got hurt were the last three weeks
where the pressure rate against CJ.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Stroud has been massive.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
So a topic we can address upon the return of
Nico Collins and basically the return of last year's offense
plus Joe Mixon, who got some news today of his
own which he was happy to share with everybody. Is
so were we and we'll do that as we continue
here Friday Edition. Lots coming your way, Stone Cold Locks
at four point thirty and everything else on the fun
ride to the weekend.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Here on the eighteen The Aight on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Ninety, The Third Coast, the only time where being third
is actually right where we want to be.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Back to our home grown.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Adams, The ae on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
How about our two currently in action teams competing with
each other with uh, you know, just I'll take the
Nico Collins factor out of it, and I'll just talk
about looking apparel. Since both the Texans and the Rockets
were dropping, you know, basically we know what the we
knew what the Texans battle red uniforms were going to
(13:09):
look like, and we had a pretty good idea of
what the stadium would look like, but still it was
cool to see it on social media. And I think
that was just after the Rockets dropped their City Connect officially.
We already had kind of seen some leaks, at least
I had, and those are They're better than I initially
thought they were going to be.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
This year.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
I'm just still gung ho about.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
The Dunkster not I think that was just spectacular last year,
hence whin I'm wearing some of it today. But yeah,
that was, like I think, within a couple of hours
of each other, if not less that both teams dropping
some gear, some new gear. The Rockets City Connect jerseys,
and they'll be in action tonight in Oklahoma City, by
the way, they will they'll be for sale coming up
(13:50):
on the fourteenth, and they'll wear them for the first
time in case you're wondering about that on the twentieth.
I think the Pacers are in town for that game,
but I'm not sure about the details on the court.
One year they did the uniforms, the Baylor looking ones,
the San Diego ones, but they didn't.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Have a court to go with them.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Baylor.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
That's what they looked like. They guests who had them.
They were their own jerseys. They weren't taking somebody else's
they had, they wore those jerseys.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Baylor war San Diego. Is that what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
No, Baylor's older than the San Diego Rockets. Their colors
are older than the San Diego Rockets. I'm just saying
they look like their own. They look like Baylor jerseys
out there. Oh good, we're gonna be Baylor for this season.
I imagine in the late sixties when the NBA awarded the
franchise and they went to their focus groups and said,
what do you guys think of this? Why'd y'all take
(14:37):
Baylor's uniforms all those San Diegans that they brought in
for their focus group on the jersey look, they're like,
people are gonna say, you look like that team from Waco, Texas.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Well, how about the fact that they called them the
Rockets in San Diego.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 5 (14:51):
They're the anti Jazz, They're the anti Actually.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
They moved to a city where it made it made
more sense to call them the Rockets. They moved to
Space City, were NASA it was located you don't. They
Jazz moved from New Orleans to Salt Lake City, where
nobody even listens the jazz.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
There's no space program connections.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
To the state that's on the coast on the west
of the United States at all, not at all, just
like there's none on the the little toe that's sticking
out of America on the other coast.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
There is there.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Oh okay, there's also the Johnson Space Center. Actually, I
don't know if it's called that. I think that might
be here. I always get a mixed up because that's
where they launched the shuttle or they did.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Did SpaceX get shot off of the United States of
America back in October like a week ago.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Two weeks of Austin, of course, where Elon has moved
to believe it.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Was southern California. My sources was from California. That's going
to fall into the ocean soon.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Anyways. We already established that earlier this week on another show.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
You might as well take care of it while you can,
before it's gone before Nevada's coastline.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
I love California too.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
I just want to tell you, yeah, I uh, I
don't know. I liked I liked them more after I
saw them today talking about the Rockets. One.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Yeah, if you haven't seen him there on our social media,
posted a video on my Instagram and they had their
models that they chose to use as part of this push.
Everybody has one, but tari Alprin, Dylan freddie Vee and
Jalen Green, all wearing jerseys were across their chest.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
It says, h town, you see the jackets that the
older old timers were wearing.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
The older former players, all three of them, Rudy t Clyde,
Drexler and Kim Olajuan. Yes, they were wearing what appear
to be very very sweet jackets. As Ac said, were
just a few days out from the merchandise dropping and
being available, and it is a Pacers game that they
will wear them for the first time. The only trip
in town for the Indiana Pacers Rockets will wear those
(16:41):
jerseys one of these stretches of the season where they
knock out a host of Eastern Conference games. After Oklahoma City,
five of the rockets next seven games are against Eastern
Conference teams. The only thing that breaks it up is
the loan trip to Houston for James Harden and the
LA Clippers.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
It's provided he's health.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Way, I think he'll be all right. The Clippers and
the Sixers are competing to see who can have more
of their big names out for the most time this year.
But uh, like Tyrese Maxy just went down, like seriously,
Like Daryl Morey's got to be like an absolute hell.
He was thinking he was gonna have an Eastern Conference
contender this year, and now like they just got Paul
(17:22):
George back, Joelle Embiid somehow managed to get suspended before
he got healthy, and now Tyrese Max he's out with
I think it's a hamstring issue.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
So good luck Philly.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Yeah, they're bad team without Embiid is going to be badter.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
They're only saving grace. Milwaukee is one in six.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Uh, they got another win?
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Oh do they win last night?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (17:42):
They played Utah, So.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Now they're two and six because they played the worst
team in the NBA. They only one that Wimby's good against.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
He wasn't.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Yeah, he was good against them. They played San Antonio
played last night. They played Portland, very Utah esque.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Caliber team, and how did Wimby do? He was not
very good, but they won. He's not very good.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
He has had did you.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
I said this late in our discussion and probably you
lost it, and you're probably already I.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Already know he stinks.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Yeah, he's been bad in twenty twenty four. Did this season?
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I heard that?
Speaker 4 (18:10):
I heard that part all he has blocked the same
number of shots roughly as he did in his first
season and everywhere else bad basketball. He was a bad
three point shooter last year. This year he's he's shooting more,
much worse. I'm not not shooting much more, but he's
making them much less. He's making two pointers less. He's
shooting the shots he should be taking less, he's rebounding less.
Everything is has been down all while. They added some
(18:34):
structure with Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul. From a veteran standpoint,
now they're about to get their second best player back,
Devin Vassell, and that is one thing we didn't add
to the man. That's a lot of games against the
Spurs already. Yeah, all three of them without Devin Vassell.
Rockets didn't even win all three, but they certainly caught
at least some break with him not being out there.
(18:55):
Trey Jones missed two of the games also, But I
don't think it makes a huge difference. But he is
a they can't shoot threes. Their whole thing's awful. Vessel's
probably from a volume save. If he's gonna shoot a
lot of threes, he'll probably make a decent enough percentage.
And that's definitely something they were missing, if you that's
why the Rockets had no trouble with him. The Spurs
(19:15):
coming out of halftime, they were getting clobbered. I guarantee you.
Their interim coach Mitch Johnson said, Look, the only way
we can get back in this.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Game is we need to shoot some threes.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
And nine of their first twelve shots in the third
quarter threeze most of them clanked the Yeah, they made
I think they made six of their full game lotman
in that third quarter didn't make any difference at all
because they kept turning the ball over and the Rockets
didn't stop scoring.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Yeah, I don't feel bad for there.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
And by the way, how did I miss this since
we're on the topic of the Rockets and the Spurs
in this exact moment in time. Yeah, we're trying to
get everybody ready for the game on February twenty sixth. Yeah,
Jeremy Sohan really you're gonna do that on your social
media post with your broken thumb, letting everybody know that
you're okay, and also saying f Hugh Houston before the game,
(20:01):
and then afterwards you look even dumber when they pelted
your team by twenty seven.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Well, he does not like the Rockets.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
If the Lions are passing around shirts today from one
of their players who used the middle finger on each
of his hands towards the referees last week, they printed
those up, handed them out in the locker room today
before they get on a flight tomorrow. For Houston has
nothing to do with Houston. I'm just kind of saying
sounds like Sohan wants a T shirt company in San
Antonio to help him out.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Again.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
I'm not advocating for it, but to say it once
and he said it, it wasn't completely ingest when he
said it the first time saying it. He didn't say
it again here. He just wrote it well on his
surgery went well post or surgery going to go well post.
I think that I guess you're kind of taking a
liberties with it. It says still four asterisks Houston. I
(20:51):
don't know what that is. I do what is it.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
How do you know?
Speaker 5 (20:54):
I can't say it. You can't say it.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
But if you were typing that on a post, because
you would never say it, would you not include at
least one of the four letters just to be sure?
Speaker 5 (21:04):
Depends.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
I've seen it both ways. I've seen people use Okay,
how do you spell yay with an H on the end? No,
he does, That's what it says. Still yay Houston? Why ah?
Four asterisks? I think that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
That's not what it is.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
I love still love Houston.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
I guess when I was watching the games, because there
was two different games where they had scraps with each other.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Correct, h Well, two different players scrapped with him this year.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
But remember after this last game, Tarry Easton was like,
I just don't like the Spurs. Yes, no, it was
the Warriors that you said that about getting. Now I'm
getting my scraps maxed up.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
You're putting putting words in his mouth.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
But it's just I guess I didn't realize the level
and maybe it's one sided. I don't think the Rockets
particularly are concerned with the Spurs because they're just they
don't matter.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
One member of the Rockets probably feels okay at least
about one member of the Warriors. I imagine a lot
of you that have been crawling around social media seen
and heard some of Fred van Vliet's visit with Draymond
Green on his podcast. Among the things that Fred discussed
was his love, love, love for the city of Houston,
for his desire to have this be likely his final
(22:16):
stop in the NBA.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
Again, by the way, that's not the first time he
said this.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yep, he will likely need some sort of new contract
after this year's deal doesn't expire, but the team option
likely means something different will be done in the future.
He understands his role, He understands why he was brought here.
He understands what each new year brings for his particular role.
Because his role this year is you can see changing
a little bit, but he's still playing great.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Over the last two games.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
The last two games, he has been unbelievable shooting the basketball.
He's sixteen of eighteen inside the three point line, scoring
better than twenty points per game. Probably needs something like that.
When they get the Thunder tonight in Oklahoma City no
longer the undefeated Thunder as they fell to the Denver
Nuggets the other night. First seven games for OKAC, they
be their opponents by twelve or more points. They have
(23:02):
been pretty awesome and the addition of Caruso made them
even better than they were a year ago. We got
it for you tonight seven o'clock tip coverage starts at
six with Rockets launch Pad, then Rockets Countdown.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
You'll have that, and then un MT with the OKC
call Ram.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
Sure it's his way in on the whole T shirt thing,
he says, not it?
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Yeah, I wasn't suggest Again, I wasn't even going that
far to suggest such a thing. We'll dive back into
the opportunity. I haven't talked about that yet. It's been
all doom and gloom and well tears about the Lions
Texans game. How about an opportunity, an opportunity to get
to seven and three and really cement where you belong
(23:43):
in the NFL hierarchy for the Houston Texans.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
We'll talk about that next.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Hey as coach Udoka.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
Here every Rockets game on Sports Talk seven ninety and
on the iHeartRadio app Home of your Rockets.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
All right, So back to the Texans.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
Here's where I go.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
It is the eight team Sports Talk seven ninety. I
didn't say what I usually say. That's wex. I may
see Welly every once in.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
A while over the four hours we're here with you,
as those of you who are not yet aware. Two
to six each and every weekday afternoon is when you
catch us here on the A team. The show that
precedes us also one of four hours, you got the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross and of course right before
they get going six to ten am, the Sean Salisbury
Show each and every weekday right here on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
Those three shows, those twelve.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
Hours, and many times it heads right into game coverage,
whether it's on the hardwood for the Rockets and the
college teams we have both here and on KPRC nine fifty.
Now the college basketball has opened up, and obviously over
the weekends, plenty of activity this week and again with
the Horns, LSU, etc. U. H has the weekend off
(25:05):
in advance of their trip to Arizona, off of their
win over top fifteen ranked Kansas State last weekend over
at TDECU Stadium. Had a bunch of my winners in
the bud Light backyard for that the covered bud light
backyard was rainy afternoon over TDCU as the Cougars reigned
all over the Kansas State Wildcats, a pretty big upset
(25:26):
win for them. We were talking about Jared Goff and
his perfection. He had an eighteen for eighteen passing performance
earlier this year. Cougar quarterback Xeon Chris had a perfect
passing performance in that game, the best perfect passing performance
in University of Houston Cougar history. Eleven passes, eleven receptions.
He even had a reception in the game, nearly a
(25:49):
reception for a touchdown, and he also had the go
ahead score in his own forty one yard scamper. Again,
they're off. We will get into those other two matchups,
the sec tilts for the Longhorns at home for Florida
in early kick the early slot at eleven, later slot
under the lights in the dark at Death Valley with
(26:09):
Alabama and LSU. That is our college football game of
the week. Our Stone Cold locks about two hours from
now at four point thirty. A recap of last week.
One of the three of us didn't miss any of
their five picks, not me, and where we stand some
ten Vera.
Speaker 5 (26:25):
Somebody not named Wex or Dan got all their picks right.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
There's not enough. Somebody got all of their picks right.
That person is somebody not named Dan, not named Ross,
not named Matt, not named Sean Salisbury, not named Brian, Lilma,
something like.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
That, Rob, Danny Fizzle. It's all the cast of characters.
That's a super inside baseball.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
I'll not be fitting of someone who calls himself a
sports director.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Oh no, be a grown man and do your job.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Seriously, Bonnie Blair lots to get into here.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Back on the football side.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
You guys don't know how funny that is. I'm just
I can't explain it. I'll never be able to explain it.
If you run into me in person, I'll explain it
to you.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
I was actually looking over an email from one of
the Calligula local sids send out releases all the time,
what's going on with their respective seasons golf team, volleyball, soccer, basketball, whatever,
And a lot of the people you just referenced were
still on the distribution list.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
I mean, all right, let's let's talk about that for
just thirty seconds.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Okay, clock starting now.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
How often have you had you had to and you
like this kind of stuff, unlike me, how often you
have you had to either send it to spam or
trash or block somebody because they keep bombarding your email
inbox with a teams or a athletic departments or a
soccer teams, ongoing never stuff I don't care about never,
(27:47):
So you just let it go to your inbox?
Speaker 5 (27:49):
Yes, then I read it.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
Yeah, I make sure there's nothing in it I don't need.
If it's a team I'm not usually covering.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Or whatever, I'm might do a PSA right now, see
you Rice, you of h I get them all.
Speaker 5 (27:58):
I'm gonna do it for everybody there.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
If you're not the Rockets, the Texans or the Astros,
I'll make some exceptions for maybe some I don't care.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
Right well, both of us were doing different things different
send me two emails.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
If they started doing that to me as well, don't.
I don't miss them anymore.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
Yeah, but how do you fix that?
Speaker 4 (28:19):
You probably just let them know you worry? Afraid still
a delete button? Well, I'm afraid to tell Omar hey,
if can you take me off? Because then I'm afraid
I won't get either one of them.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
That's the correct move. Your thirty seconds are up, all right?
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Right? So this is how about the positive side? How
about for me to bring you to the positive side.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
What if at two o'clock on Monday, you cultivate and
open which is based off of your good morning video
that you had to make, because the Texans beat the Lions,
because the Texans are seven and three, because the Texans
have three more wins and the tiebreaker over the Indianapolis Colts.
Because the Texans have still the second most wins in
(28:57):
the AFC, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs. Ask you here,
and there's are a couple of things that are outside
of the Texans control. It would actually both of those
things that I just said can't happen because it would
have required a Colts loss and a Bills loss.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
But they play each other.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
But you get my drift, Well, the Colt can do
you solid I would actually be calling for that.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
The Bills are playing the Colts. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
If the Colts went right, go ahead, you see the
Bills go ahead and move back into the Texans will
be number two in the AFC after they beat the
Lines on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
If the Colts went a home game, and you'll already
know what's happened if going into your game.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Yeah, if the.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Colts went a home game against the Bills, and if
the Commanders won a home game against the Steelers takes,
it would have been even easier to look at the
AFC playoff picture being jumbled if Cincinnati didn't keep finding
ways to lose, which they did again last night. Although
like earlier in the week, I would have applauded Todd
Bowles for going for two, which he chose not to
(29:53):
and ultimately kicked off in overtime and lost. I did
applaud Zach Taylor for going for two. I don't really
applaud a plod how the play was officiated or the
play they chose to execute. I think there was a
little bit better way to go about it. But I
did notice one other thing is we slide that conversation
back into the Texans.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
The people calling the game.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
The analysts around the game and in their studios today
had one very similar topic to discuss for that particular play,
and really how the Bengals have been playing all season
long as they watched Joe Burrow drop back fifty plus
times again and complete thirty plus passes.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Again, Well, it's not like he has Joe Mixon a
hand to Bingo.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
They were all noting how things have changed. Their running
game is short passes to Chase Brown. Yeah, it's not
give the ball to Joe Mixon. I said one really
positive thing about Joe Mixon before he arrived here, because
I can't lie to you because the receipts are all there.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
I did not think what has happened was going to happen.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
I did not think seven years of all those carries
in Cincinnati with far less results, fewer better results than
we already in Houston. I wasn't over the moon with
that move. No you weren't, I remember, but I knew
he'd be good in the passing game. And the one
thing I'm pointing out is I knew he'd be good
in the red zone, especially inside the ten yard line.
(31:13):
That had been shown over and over and over again
in Cincinnati. And some guys kind of have it, and
other guys are just running backs and maybe they score,
maybe they don't. Arion Foster, in my lifetime of seriously
covering football, covering the game, he's been the best in
the NFL that has ever done it. If you gave
him the ball inside the five yard line. You didn't
(31:34):
need a hole, you didn't need much of anything. He
was going to figure out a way to get in
the end zone. And before him, clearly I was still
watching football at the time, it wasn't yet covering the game.
Marcus Allen, same thing. He was always going to find
a way. He had some of the most spectacular ways
of doing it because he was always the guy leaping
over the pile Walter Payton, etc. But some guys just
know how to worm their way into the end zone.
(31:55):
This cut is the one that's gonna get me to
the edge, or this cut's gonna slide me by the
edge rusher that has gotten containment here figure out a way,
and the Bengals don't have that. I'm not saying they
would have called a run play on the two point conversion,
but having him on the field for it after a
game where maybe he'd run for one hundred and fifteen
yards that probably changes what the other team is expecting.
(32:16):
All those things being said, man Joe Burrow is having
an awesome season for a team that can't win. It's incredible,
and again, their opportunity to get back in the race
was last night, truly beating Baltimore, a team they almost
never beat. They had a two touchdown lead in the
second half and could not stop Lamar Jackson in that
offense four straight touchdown possessions. One of the big reasons
(32:38):
why Zach Taylor went for two to end or hope
to end the game.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
There.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
It's an opportunity for them for their record. The opportunity
for the Texans is to kind of get people back.
People are I know they're six and three, but I
know they got this. But it's nothing but butts about
the six and three Texans, And there's just gonna be
even more of it if most people get what they
think they're gonna get, which is a not win.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
On Sunday, We've got Cindy Lauper tickets, I've got a
preview of potential aftermath of a Texans win. And I
need to make one quick fantasy note and has nothing
to do with me.
Speaker 5 (33:14):
It's trust me. It's insane. Tell you about that all
when we get back.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
The A on Sports Talk seven ninety, Adam and Adam
are so Houston that they also have scars from ice
skating at the Galleria, not on their knees, but they're
rejected little hearts.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
You go away.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
No couples skate for these two.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (33:52):
Is this your favorite Cindy Lapper song?
Speaker 3 (33:54):
Wex Or?
Speaker 5 (33:57):
Is it true? Colors? They're There are a few that.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
I would put together with a chalkboard and nails. This
is not one of them.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
You like this one?
Speaker 4 (34:07):
No, I'm just saying I don't need the chalkboarder or
the fingernails for it. Time after Time is one of
those fingernails.
Speaker 5 (34:13):
And chalkboard you don't like.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Time after Time.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
And whatever song you mentioned before that the colors that
were truthful?
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Yeah, I smell like that one either.
Speaker 7 (34:22):
Do you?
Speaker 5 (34:22):
Are you aware of them?
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Understand their place? They have been used so many times
over the last.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
This is how WrestleMania. This is actually I don't know
about that.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
I think they used, uh, the beginning of Easy Lover
by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey, which is an absolute
certified banger to this day. It's it's still it's I
wonder how it happened, How did she get attached in
any way?
Speaker 5 (34:48):
At any point?
Speaker 2 (34:50):
They're friends with who was the guy that had the
hooks in his face, Captain Lou Albano.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
She was friends with him in real life.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Off, of course, she was, well, I mean, like you
mean her dad in the video.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Well, I mean, if you want to do that route,
just just just here tickets.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Seriously, this is I'm so tired of artists saying, well,
this is our farewell tour because they're going to come
back for another tour that's not their last one done
so I mean Motley Cruz done it like fifty times.
But anyway, well, that's their coming back from the dead tour. Well,
Mick Mars has already been dead, That's what I mean
several times. A pair of tickets to see that artist
(35:27):
that's not nails on a chalkboard.
Speaker 5 (35:29):
If you're a fan. Oh that was kind of that.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
That's that's kind of intuitive, counterproductive.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
It's counterproductive. I'm like, hey, man, can you hear what
we're doing here. We're trying to give tickets away and
listen to you, listen to you, That's all right?
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Uh, Sendy Lauper live on the girls just want to
have fun.
Speaker 5 (35:45):
I wonder where she got that name.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Farewell Tour November sixteenth, at toyotas and that's eight days
away at the house that Steve Francis built brick by brick.
Tickets on sale now at Live nation dot com. Yes,
that's the end of the song. Do you think she
sings this in the encore?
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yes, you'll get to hear the songs you want to hear,
including the ones that I might have mentioned that are really, really,
really good, super popular and chart toppers.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
You are the worst, this is like, so you're saying
it's gonna be the opposite of the Stevie Wonder concert
we all went to where he didn't sing any songs
anyone knew I and Ross was the only one that
enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
Never seen Stevie wondering.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Well you didn't go that night that I'm not.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
We the rest of the staff basically did at the time. Okay,
So anyways, Para, take us to see Cindy Laupper live
on this tour seven one, three two, seven ninety If
you know the answer to this question, what was the
theme song used for the show? Open today? And you
(36:54):
know there's no name for it, but what was it from?
This is where my wrestling fans are gonna come in
And I'm already giving you a hint by saying that
it's actually fairly easy. Now that I've said that, I
did a show open to day. I put it together
with Nico Collins highlights, and there was a music bed
underneath it. Just tell me which wrestling event that song
was used for, not too far after they used this
(37:17):
song in the original of that event. It's so easy,
and you'll be going seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety And we have other tickets to give away
later on in the show. Okay, question for you, WEX
serious question. You mentioned it, and it got me to
thinking if the Texans you know, behind Nico Collins and such,
(37:41):
are able to pull off the upset at home over
the Troit Lions, like exactly when you take into account
what's happened this week from a cultural standpoint, exactly how
insufferable of a good morning video could this actually be?
Speaker 4 (37:57):
It would be nicer if this team from a d standpoint,
if this particular team was seven and one and blowing
through the league, but was a rival, but was an
AFC team, but was a team whose fans you would
want to anger.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
You might have next week.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Well, I think this is accurate during the season, either
this year or last year when they played the Tigers
and you posted an Astros good Morning video after a
win over the Tigers. They're fans who are so far
removed from Orioles. It was the Orioles. They had no
idea of your your your ploy. You is this guy
talking about what would happen with the Lions fans if
(38:34):
any of them happened to not understand it.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
They wouldn't understand it.
Speaker 4 (38:38):
So it would be a little bit better if this
was happening against the Colts or Chiefs or Bills or
somebody like that. But I'm not doubting your abilities to degreciate.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
So you've got musical selections galore of of you know what,
there's lots of different genres even Yeah, I'm looking forward
to your kid rock eminem mashup.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
That should be fun. Don't leave out Motown Town.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
That's kind of like what if Gladys Knight and the
Pips went away in Uh, I'm gonna guess this.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
This what I'm about to say is akin to people
winning that work for the Super Bowl team's equipment department,
winning a Super Bowl prop bet on what color the
gatorade will be. Because I'm putting it out there now,
I don't expect to hear Gladys Knight and the Pips.
So if you want me to be wrong, you can
do it and I would look dumb.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
You know, it's funny. Well, that's actually a fun idea.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
You were asking me last week if I did the
Halloween themed one for the Sunday win over the Colts
prior to the Halloween night game over the Jets, and
you asked if I did that intentionally in case they
lost that game, And I hadn't really thought about that scenario.
But I'm glad because I wouldn't have gotten to do anything.
So I hope that this happens now because there are
some ideas, you know, just swimming around in my head.
(39:51):
The other thing I wanted to get to just before
we break for the top of the hour, we buried
the lead last segment when you were talking about the
prolific pass in just.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Overall game of Joe Burrow. What if you had Joe Burrow.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
And Jamar Chase on your fantasy team last night? Do
you think you had a good night.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
Well, I did, look around.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
I am in three fantasy leagues, and in two of
the three leagues, those two players are on the same team.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Dan had both of those guys, and so it's one
game into the week he's got better than ninety points.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
I hate you, Dan.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
I wasn't playing against either one of them in those leagues,
and in this league, luckily, I wasn't playing against him
this week. The three of us combined in this league
of twelve teams, Uh huh, not faring very well. Suck,
but maybe things are about to change.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
But it's yeah, like most of the teams are only
separated by like two games, and really a lot of
the teams are separated by one game. You just flip
flop the record by one game, and you've got the
situation where you have like an eight way tie. C. J.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
Stroud is fifth in the AFC and touchdown passes. Each
of the quarterbacks last night has more than twice as
many as he does.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Well, they both have twenty four. He has eleven. When
you say it like that, it sounds a lot worse
than it is. That's the Joe Mixon effect too, You
know that, right?
Speaker 8 (41:09):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (41:10):
I guess all right, we'll discuss when we start the
TV side of things when we come back.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
It's a Friday edition of the A Team Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Ninety two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your
Team series. Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
A straight up three o'clock here in Houston, Texas. It
is our number two of four here on the A
Team and now simulcast on Space City Home Network. Sports
Talk seven nineties afternoon drive show taking you until six
o'clock tonight. Wex and Ac with you on a Friday
edition of the program. A lot, and I mean a
(41:55):
lot of Texans conversation in that first hour, namely because.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Well, is he is he not?
Speaker 2 (42:02):
It's not set in stone, but it's about as set
in stone as it can be without the team actually
come out and saying it. And when you post a
picture of Nico Collins in the candy painted red helmets
at the A Texans are going to be wearing on
Sunday night against the Detroit Lions and you say, hey,
he was a practice today, kind of alludes to the
fact that he'll probably be available for the first time
(42:24):
in five contests after his four game stint on the
IR It's crazy the thing that hurt him was a
hamstring strain on a long, long touchdown. That's kind of
like his It's almost like his mo now it's his trademark,
if you will.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
He does that a lot.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
So as you continue to prepare yourself for what again
I keep saying, I think is the best team in
the NFL coming in here on Sunday night, You're going
to have potentially a monster weapon on your side.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Now, can you get the ball to him?
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Well, that's going to be a different story because the
offensive line as they go, so goes the Texans offense
go CJ. Stroud obviously, And we were talking a little
bit about that in the first hour, and I was
talking about the Joe Mixon effect and as like, you
know the reason, what was a stat He basically is
off the pace by how much or he's gonna he's
(43:14):
top five or he's the fifth in the AFC and
touchdown passes, but he's way off the pace.
Speaker 4 (43:20):
If he had twenty three touchdown passes last Year's got
eleven through nine games, So he's just slightly underneath that.
Speaker 5 (43:24):
Okay, But I said, that's the Joe Mixon effect.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
And what I meant by that is It's a good
thing because it just means your your offense is, if
not more dynamic than at least multifaceted compared to last
year when you had a running back that was not
I mean not terrible.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
They have a better running game, yeah, that's it, But
he's there. Their offense is not more dynamic. They're not
more capable of scoring points. And unfortunately, we all know
the reasons why they could be, and I think we
all believe they should be, and even without Stefan Diggs,
I think they absolutely can be because Nico Collins can
help them do that. There's no reason you should be
(44:03):
running the ball the way that they are and it's
not overwhelming, and it's not the best in the NFL.
And he still gets TFLs. That's the only thing we
got always add in there.
Speaker 8 (44:11):
Well.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (44:12):
Stroud's getting sacked fourteen times over the last three games.
They're also the other team's defense is living in the
backfield ten plus TFLs three straight games. Many of those
carries are Joe Mixon carries, so they aren't lighting teams
up with the run game. They're not running for two
hundred yards and obliterating them like they did in the opener,
(44:32):
but you should have one should help the other, Nico
Collins being on the field and Joe Mixon running the
ball the way he has, which hasn't been every game
because of the injury to both. That should alleviate some
of what they've been up against by being unable to
keep the rush off of them.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
And it just had virtually no impact. Even you know,
at the beginning of the season.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
The numbers were better, they weren't awesome. They should be
better than that, and again, the players have to make
that happen. And that's the other part of our conversation
that's littered our first four shows of the week and
has been absent here today because we don't have any
additional information. But I've been telling you for a couple
of days, and I still fully expect we will see
beyond the obvious. The Kenyan Green absence, and that was
(45:13):
another move made by the Texans today. He did a
finally officially get placed on injured reserve and he will
not be returning this season. They're gonna have a different
offensive line group for sure because of that, and I
think they're actually gonna have a shift on the offensive line.
In addition, to that with the possibility that Jew Scruggs
is no longer the guy snapping the football to CJ,
but rather the person to his immediate left playing left guard,
(45:36):
with Jared Patterson handling the center duties and the calls
that go with it.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
And whatever happens, good or bad for either team, it's
gonna happen under the Texas sky.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:48):
Probably, No, it's happening scheduled to be open. No, guaranteed, it's.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
Not gonna rain. And if it doesn't rain, do you
think it's gonna rain today? Actually?
Speaker 5 (45:58):
Well rain where I was. Yeah, I part of Houston.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
I actually asked my wife, I said, hey, did it rain,
because I don't know. I'm trying to get him out
the door right now. I'm like, sorry, good morning to
you two. Hey, the missus make it easy. Yeah, man,
that's why I said, that's how you were doing right, Well,
that was her. That wasn't my impression. That was just
how it hurt. That's how it sounded in my head.
Speaker 5 (46:18):
As expected.
Speaker 4 (46:20):
Two of the Texans players that have not practiced this
week are officially listed as out.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
Not Nico Collins, well.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
He wasn't.
Speaker 5 (46:28):
He wasn't absent all week.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Well today as of taking so he would not have
fit into that category.
Speaker 4 (46:34):
Who will Anderson is not playing this week? Is out
and it was like we tried to let you know
that that was where it was trending. Damian Pierce didn't
practice this week. He is out. Six players listed as questionable.
Each of the three players that are still on injured
reserve but have returned to practice designated to return and
have returned. Two of them, Jerry Hughes and Jeff Lekouda,
(46:55):
practiced all week this week, listed in each case as
full participate and today listed as questionable. Allows them to
not necessarily put them on the roster if they don't
want him to be active, but more than likely it's
trending cords them being active for this game. Certainly Jeff
Okuda if he's at full health. And the third, obviously
now that he practiced, is Nico Collins. He's listed as
(47:18):
questionable and he's not currently on the roster. A newcomer
to the injury report today. There are actually two of them.
One of them is not of great concern. Denico Autry
did not practice today because they were arresting him. He
has no injury designated is it in parentheses. They don't
(47:39):
use those anymore. He will be playing on Sunday. He
will be active. But the other is of a little
bit larger consequence. A back injury had Tank dell As
limited and thus listed for his game status as questionable.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
Get him a massage, make sure it's not at Carlos
Kreis therapist, and he's.
Speaker 5 (47:56):
Good to go.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
Shaq Mason, who had some issues ractice again full at
times this week, practice in full today, so he has
no injury designation attached to him. No practice yesterday or
the day before, or should be yesterday or today. For
Jake Hansen, same for Foley Photoicazi. They're both listed as questionable,
and I think there's a chance that there's In Jake
(48:18):
Hanson's case, I would imagine he's not gonna play because
as he's al Shaier full practice, no designation, he's going
to return to the lineup and as a starter. They're actually,
I guess, even without Christian Harris perfectly set at linebacker.
Al Shayer and Totoa started every game and played every
(48:38):
snap before they each got hurt. I believe that's exactly
what they'll go back to in this game. But they
now have the option of bringing in Devin White in
certain situations. Devin White will not have to do anything
like he did against Indianapolis, where occasionally they wanted him
to spy Anthony Richardson. That is not required against the
statue that is Jared Goff usually his over under on
(48:58):
rushing yards each week zero point five and taking the
under is usually the advisable path. But they have both
he and Neville Hewitt, who've gotten a lot of playing
time the last couple of weeks. White's gonna be much
more familiar with their defense. I bet you they regard
him as a better blitzer from that linebacking spot, and
I think you'll probably see some spots for each of them.
(49:19):
But that's where the injury situation sits for the Texans,
and unfortunately, for the first time this season, Will Anderson
will be on the sidelines for the Texans. He has
been an equally effective pass rusher to Daniel Hunter. Hunter
is fewer sacks, more pressures. We'll see how it impacts
what the Lions are going to do with them. Because
(49:40):
Derek Barnett's gonna play. He was listed on the injury
report earlier this week, but has no injury designation with
him with his shoulder injury, presumably he starts opposite him.
Dylan Horton's available if they want him active, Jerry Hughes
available to be active, Denico Autry can line up outside,
heck Daniel Hunter can line up inside, and as I
mentioned in the open hour of the show first segment,
(50:02):
Taylor Decker is not going to practice today and he
barely practiced yesterday. That's the starting left tackle for the Lions.
It's a very very good offensive line that possibly could
be without one of their players.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Well, and I know I'm all about the return of
Nico Collins that has still not been made official. I
might be as excited for as I's al shaier to
get back out there. When you're trying to stop a
team and you have question marks on your own offense,
so you don't need any you don't need any more
uphill battles than you already have.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
Big against this duo in the backfield, for sure, they
need some speed and he's still in my opinion, I'm
sure the stats are behind it. He's the best at
going sideline to sideline that they have. He can chase
down quarterbacks and he's going to be tasked with chasing
down both David Montgomery and Jamior Gibbs, and at times,
I'm sure Sam Laporta hasn't been super productive this year
(50:57):
just because they haven't needed to lean on him, so
to speak. He is a very tough matchup. He has
a big part of their passing game when necessary, and
I think that it's just one of their fifteen matchup
nightmares they can throw at you with the personnel groupings
that they have have.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
He and Jimmy Ward missed the same amount of games
they left the Yes, they have, they left the same Okay, Yeah,
so that's another that's more depth to me.
Speaker 2 (51:21):
I guess well, he's probably going to start right, but
not where he was because they play three safeties.
Speaker 4 (51:28):
One of them essentially is your slot corner. That's Jalen Peatrie,
and then you play Eric Murray. Kaylen Bullock. Kaylen Bullock.
You remember the first game of the year when they
played the Colts and the Colts threw over the Texans
defense multiple times. Yeah, that's Jimmy Ward spot the back end,
last line of defense safety. That's Kaylen Bullock's position, as
(51:49):
it should be case closed. So Jimmy Ward's new position
is splitting time in whatever percentages that Matt Burke and
Debiko Ryans decide, and Dino and coach a at the
other safety spot. They're both healthy, they'll both play Jimmy
Ward probably more than Murray, I would guess.
Speaker 5 (52:08):
But Kelen Bullock should not be moved from where he is. No, no,
I mean he is.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
That again, it goes back to why it's so infuriating,
because you want to get mad at Nick Cassario for not,
you know, drafting a stud offensive lineman, but gosh, man,
some of the picks he made in later rounds two, yeah,
and great.
Speaker 4 (52:26):
Ultimately you get mad at him for missing on an
offensive lineman and the method in which they did.
Speaker 3 (52:31):
It's three years ago.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
Now it's three drafts ago with Kenyon Green but taking
him in the top half of the first round barely
number fifteen, trading back to do it and watching people
were watching last night when the Baltimore defense got a
lot worse when Kyle Hamilton got hurt. That was one
of the players drafted in those two spots. The others
Jordan Davis, how bad is it?
Speaker 3 (52:50):
I mean?
Speaker 4 (52:51):
Coach Harbass said he didn't think it was awful. But
he did not return to the game and it certainly
impacted was past Christmas.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
I mean, it's an ankle indro. I'm gonna say, I
hope not.
Speaker 5 (53:02):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (53:02):
I don't think so so optimistic. It's a little over
a month away. I know what you're getting at. But yeah,
just you missed. I mean, that's that's where they are
with Kenya Green unfortunately. So those are some of the
things that should get you set up for Sunday night
football Texans Lions the a.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
T on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Let's talk about Mo Carum injury law. Look, you have
got to have a team on your side if you
have been in any sort of collision. They've got trial attorneys.
They don't actually they're hoping they don't have to go
to that route, but they are. They're there for you
if you need them. And if you want a team
that is going to be on your side. That's not
a typical law firm, and it's going to step in
(53:43):
and take care of all the problems that come with
suffering an auto accident if you're injured, especially Calmo Karum
injury law two eight one two two two twenty two
twenty two available twenty four to seven. They can meet
with you in their office, at your home, even bedside
in the hospital. They'll help get you the medical at
tension you need, when you need it. Collisions not a
(54:03):
lot of fun, but unfortunately here in the city of Houston,
they are possible a whole lot more because of the
amount of vehicles and drivers we have on the road.
So get a team on your side that can get
you what you need. Don't wait, Your consultation is free
two eight one two two two two.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler the eighty.
Speaker 4 (54:30):
Continuing on via simulcast on Space City Home Network, and
of course right here you're home for Astros Rockets Sports
Talk seven to ninety same as you can get on
Space City Home Network. Wex and Ac here with you
on a Friday. Little ways from now, we'll get into
our stone cold locks give you an update on the
Texans injury situation.
Speaker 5 (54:48):
Can do the same for the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 4 (54:51):
Taylor Decker starting left tackle for the Detroit Lions would
be an inaccurate statement for Sunday Night football.
Speaker 5 (54:57):
He is out out.
Speaker 4 (54:59):
It was a surprise yesterday to Justin Rodgers, who covers
the team when he was on with us that he
was even listed on the injury report, and Dan Campbell
said earlier today he was not likely to practice. He
actually said, we'll see where he is over the next
forty eight hours, and he didn't mean what they wouldn't
know of his whereabouts.
Speaker 5 (55:15):
They meant how he is health wise.
Speaker 4 (55:17):
But today, unless sead of listing him as questionable, they've
just listed him as out. Jalen Reeves Maybon, Malcolm Rodriguez
also out Rodriguez among their linebackers, and maybe's Reeben or
Reeves Mabon. You may recognize he played here in Houston.
He is a special team's ace. Zarias Smith listed as questionable,
the new acquisition on the defensive line at the edge,
(55:39):
did not practice this week. I did practice, I should
say today for the first time as a full participant.
Speaker 5 (55:48):
He's listed as questionable.
Speaker 4 (55:49):
But from everything they've said and his excitement when meeting
with the media today, he'll be playing. The good news
is there's no real chip on his shoulder for this game.
He was really excited that he could see their Lions
schedule and how many games remain on the schedule for
teams in the North. His division again that he wants
(56:10):
to face again. The former Packers fired up for that,
so hopefully he'll save all his true juice for opponents
later on in the season.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
Am I crazy in thinking that as we look at
some of these additions and subtractions on both sides going
into this game, it's suddenly feeling more like not an
even matchup, Like I can't get past the offensive line.
I get that, that's what we're all talking about, what
we're all concerned about. Now it's a factor on the
(56:42):
other side a little bit.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
I feel better well at games.
Speaker 4 (56:45):
I mean, clearly, losing a starter at left tackle for
your right handed quarterback is notable significant.
Speaker 5 (56:52):
Yeah, no, for sure, But I just I don't know.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
I didn't expect the combination, I guess, is what I'm
getting at of all these Still feel like the Lions
are gonna win this game. Still feel like they're the
best team in football, and that's the main and probably
top five reasons why they would win this game before
you get to anything Texans related, But there are some
things that have happened going into this game here on
(57:15):
Friday afternoon that make me think.
Speaker 5 (57:16):
Okay, maybe I take a second look at it. And
how this whole plays out.
Speaker 4 (57:20):
Yeah, the only thing that really to me has changed
is the games that the Texans played.
Speaker 5 (57:25):
Everything was pointing to Nico Collins returning.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
This guy next to me was announcing his return all week,
so he probably.
Speaker 5 (57:32):
He probably will.
Speaker 4 (57:32):
They haven't announced it, and AC continues to believe it
will happen, and I do too, So that's really not
There are signs Will Anderson not playing in this game, unfortunately,
once Wednesday hit, and he wasn't even there when Thursday hit,
and he didn't practice on the day they actually really
get after it. That was your indicator he was going
to unfortunately miss this game. That was made official today
that he is out. But the Decker situation really kind
(57:55):
of came up out of nowhere for the Lions.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
So that is a little bit different. The fact that
this was all so trade.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Deadline week when we didn't know they'd be adding somebody
of great consequence a couple of days before that in
Zadaria Smith that that's a pretty big factor. It was
already an area of concern if they were playing John Smith,
Ron Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and whoever else three no names
(58:21):
plus another on the defensive line. It hasn't mattered. The
Texans aren't losing upfront because they're playing the best players
in the NFL weekend and week out. They're playing NFL
players week in and week out, and upfront they have
been handled by whomever those players are, some of them
better than others. Grover Stewart's a very tough matchup. Some
of what the Packers would throw at you a very
(58:41):
tough matchup. But it really hasn't been about that. It's
been more about getting out schemed, having too many miscommunications,
and just flat out getting physically beaten, especially on the interior.
Their tackles haven't been physically beaten any more regularly the
last three weeks than the occasional time it has happened
all throughout the season, happens every tackle, but Titus Howard
(59:03):
and Laramie Tunzell's issues as a part of their unit
the last three weeks have been more about They've had
some communications, some slide issues, some picking up on twist issues,
just like anybody else on this line. It's not a
rest solely on the guys on the interior. It's just
been much more noticeable in their play has been much
more noticeably worse in the interior.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (59:24):
And the other thing about Joe Mixon being a thing.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
The reason I say that is because he wasn't last
year and he has been when he's out there, an
absolute game changer, and not just from the standpoint of, oh,
we have a reliable running back that we can hand
the ball to. If you're the Texans, did the ball control?
The fact that you can keep their offense off the field,
as rudimentary as fundamental as it sounds, that's going to
(59:50):
go a long way towards determining if the Texans have
a chance to win this thing. If he's having a
successful night, his over under on yards rushing is eighty
and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:00:01):
I believe eighty two and a half somewhere in there.
I'm gonna take the over.
Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
By the way, that's coming up in Stone Cold Locks,
there's a spoiler alert.
Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
I just think that that is.
Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
I said this going into the Green Bay game and
it it held. I said, if they're gonna have a
chance to win that game, he's gonna have a big game.
He did his part and they lost on a last
second field goal. But I did you view him as
a game changer in that game? Knowing how unable they
were to.
Speaker 5 (01:00:26):
Throw the football.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
No, well, what I thought that would be complimentary to
what I thought would at least be somewhat of a
better passing game.
Speaker 5 (01:00:32):
I knew it was gonna be difficult. I didn't know
it was gonna be anemic.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
But still, you know, time of possession is something that
I believe more often than not, if you look up
at the final tally in any given Texans game this year,
that they not only win, they dominate in that category
more often than not. I would say, I'm just assuming
I don't have in front of me, I have it
in front of me.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
Well, how did I do well?
Speaker 4 (01:00:54):
Their first game of the year, they had forty I
don't know how what the total, somewhere in the sixtiest range.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
They had the ball forty plus minutes on the nose.
Nice job, Colts.
Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
The game against the Bears, they did not hold the
time of possession advantage.
Speaker 5 (01:01:08):
Every other game they did.
Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
So, just like you said, yeah, I was confident. Well,
I believe there's still number one in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
Yeah, But I mean, don't you think a big part
of that. And I know he's missed a lot of games,
but Joe Mixon's gonna lend himself to that with what
he brings to the table.
Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
Yeah, that's again the equation, as the kids say, the
math ain't mathon good running game, taking pressure off your
passing game, creating better opportunities in play action pass, those
things are supposed to all go together, and they just haven't.
His production has been there, his big gains have been there.
He has actually been able to kind of carry them
(01:01:47):
into and out of a game looking for a win.
Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
He got it for him, and then that's what happened
in the Colts game.
Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
He still needed some of the passing game, but the
way the passing game worked that first game against the
Colts was largely because they had to gear up to
try to stop Joe and it was so unsuccessful that
it made life a little bit easier on your quarterback.
And over the course of the game since he's returned
because he was hurt in the second game, his production
literally the last three weeks is carbon copy. He's got
four touchdowns, one game had two, the others. He had
(01:02:13):
won just over one hundred yards in all three games,
twenty four to twenty five carries in all three games.
Speaker 5 (01:02:17):
He's done this.
Speaker 4 (01:02:18):
He has performed extremely similarly three straight weeks, and the
Texans passing game and offense in general clearly has not.
Or you could say the Colts game where CJ threw
for almost three hundred yards was the anomaly, and the
other two games, yeah, Joe Mixon very good. Texans can
run the ball and game gain first downs running the football,
and their passing game was trash. It shouldn't be like that,
(01:02:41):
and it has been twice in the last three weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:02:43):
And I do look, I don't know what the offensive
line's gonna look like. Maybe the fact that green red,
I know what they're gonna be wearing.
Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
Red pants, Yeah, red jerseys and red red helmets.
Speaker 5 (01:02:57):
I think we'll see a lot of red cleats and socks.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
I just feel like maybe now, like sometimes this is
gonna be a super around the block comparison. But I
need you to follow me because it does make sense.
Whenever the Astros finally whatever was gonna happen finally happen,
(01:03:21):
like a finality to the Jose of Brau.
Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
Situation, it's about the time they took off.
Speaker 2 (01:03:27):
Now, I'm not saying either of those guys were They
clearly aren't clubhouse cancers, but he didn't look especially happy
when he was benched earlier this year.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
He's not a factor anymore. So far, so good. I'm
with you.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
What if what if the Texans like do something stupid
and blow out the Lions on Sunday night and the
line looks good? I mean, you've got to think to yourself,
what happened? I am I'm still thinking that to myself,
what did happen? Well, the NFL's funny like that. Sometimes
those things do happen that way.
Speaker 4 (01:03:58):
You asked me to go with you on this, and
the only thing I can think of from a comparable
to Jose Abreu being unavailable to the Astros, and I
don't think this is where you're going, like they.
Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
Don't played their best balling and wasn't out there. Well,
they don't have Joe Mixon anymore. I mean, excuse me,
Stefan Diggs anymore? That that that's that's the only thing
I can think of talking about. Oh, it makes more sense,
it makes a lot more. I guess I didn't translate that. Yeah, well,
I'm thinking of the offensive line. Okay, See you said
stay with me.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
He's clearly not.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
That's fine. Now that you've got it. It's we can
move forward. Uh, he's not a guy that you know
is a bad dude. I don't think anybody in the
locker room is like, oh, he's a cancer. From a
personality stand.
Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
There's one more sizeable comparison to add to it. Jose
A Brew was not the only problem. The only player
paying playing badly was not a bray you alone. That's
definitely true about Kenyon Green, and the offensive line is
not the only ones. It's not all on his shoulders,
it's not even close to all on his shoulders. Well
(01:05:08):
now it won't be on his shoulders at all, but
rather other members of the line.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
The ad on Sports Talk seven ninety, where's your testosterone level?
Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
Do you even know?
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
Do you know that you have the testosterone level you
need to be the man you're supposed to be. I'm
talking to the men out there, and I'm talking to
any of you who have not given it a thought,
and you've just gone through life sluggish and not able

free iHeartRadio app Sports Talk seven night, Home of your Rockets.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
Wow, a team rolling along here on Sports Talk seven
ninety we had a wardrobe change during the break, both
of us did. We are supporting the Rockets as time
we always do. I like the Rockets as much to
(01:06:45):
the next guy. I'm just trying to stay warm.
Speaker 5 (01:06:48):
It is good.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
People ask me, why do you wear so many jackets
because it's cold in here? Well, can't you fix the
ac have to be?
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
But why would I want to do that?
Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:06:56):
We have a very finicky thermostat in the room.
Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
I feel like one push of the button in either
direction is like twenty degrees.
Speaker 4 (01:07:04):
Yeah, if it's seventy when we walk in, that's too hot.
And we place it one number down and it gets very,
very cold, which is much more workable.
Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
I can't we can't work when it's warm.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
No, we can work when it's cold, drowsy, it's just uncomfortable. Well,
you know what I've noticed too, back in the day
when we first Matt and Ross, it's like a.
Speaker 5 (01:07:26):
Try not to be offensive as to say this.
Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
Well, I mean, you can make it more offensive by
directing it the only one of them that was here today. Oh,
I know, because one of you're making a studio temperature comment.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Obviously would have been the only one affected. There you go,
because he's the only one that showed up that was
on the show. Yeah, but you know it's more effective
when you say it that way.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Matt is in Oklahoma City, absolute just booming metropolis.
Speaker 5 (01:07:51):
Have you been there? I have been there.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
I conducted interviews with both Jordan Lyles and Kobe Clemens
one day.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
Along you you went there for bait.
Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
We hopped in an RV complements of Sports Talk seven
ninety and made our way around a couple of different places.
Oklahoma City was one of our scheduled stops to visit
the then Astros affiliate located in Oklahoma City, where those
were two of their top prospects.
Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
That the Woodpeckers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
No, that's Kansas, that's Faete Bill, totally brand new created franchise.
I don't know where Oklahoma City still has minor league baseball.
There's not part of the Astros organization.
Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
Tulsa has.
Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
The Drillers still went to Saint Louis for Astros Cardinals
on this same trip.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
New or old Bush Stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Believe it was new Okay, so not the This was
the house that Theols built. The fans were pretty awesome.
I've heard they're good fans.
Speaker 5 (01:08:46):
Yeah they were.
Speaker 7 (01:08:46):
They were.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
I mean, I shouldn't say kind of that way, but
you know, there's that was the closer to the height
of the rivalry.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
It was back when the Astros were a National League team.
How many did the Cardinals have? How many championships? I
think they're third? Right, find the Dodgers and that sounds
for that other team.
Speaker 5 (01:09:04):
Well, that's what I was gonna say.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Yea, Cardinals fans are what Yankees fans think the rest
of baseball thinks they are. But that's but they're not.
They're the exact opposite. They're the dregs of society. They're
terrible people.
Speaker 5 (01:09:17):
Would I give the Dodgers way too much love?
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Dodgers have eight, the Athletics have nine, Sure they do,
which is tied with the Red Sox who also have nine.
And one and two are the Yankees one, the Cardinals two.
Speaker 5 (01:09:31):
That's what I thought. Eleven for the Cardinals. That was
gonna be my guest.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
That's a pretty good guest. That's dead on It's correct,
all right. So yeah, yeah, I've heard nothing but good things.
I've actually been to Saint Louis and been up in
the Arch, but I never went to a baseball game
while I was there, then up to the through the
Arch as well.
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
Not great if you're claustrophobic, No, probably not, but those
are pretty easy to avoid if.
Speaker 5 (01:09:52):
You are, and if you don't like heights. Also not
a good idea.
Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
I believe at the time, their former broadcaster had a
local watering hole that had his name on it. That's
where we went after the game, not that one, Mike Shannon,
Oh okay, and that was a good time.
Speaker 5 (01:10:07):
We had a good time. Did a couple of drinks.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
Did Saint Louis have like the worst crime rate in
America for like several years?
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Run? Now, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
You don't look those things up before you go into
major metropoliss not when this happened, and I still wouldn't
do it. Now, I think I've got people for that.
Speaker 5 (01:10:23):
You've got people for that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
The people who plan that vacation was not planned by
my wife or kids.
Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
I didn't have some of them at the time.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
Have you ever been on a vacation with your family
that wasn't planned by a plant you?
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
I use.
Speaker 4 (01:10:37):
I'll make one or two suggestions. If we're going to
a place.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
That has sports, how many right, Maybe we can mix
in a game here.
Speaker 3 (01:10:44):
Maybe we could go to.
Speaker 5 (01:10:45):
This game there if we happened to be there.
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
Hey, let's vacation in this area of the country where
a Houston team might happen to be playing.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
So we're thinking about a July vacation. Well, you know,
the Astros will be in blank at blank time in July.
Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
I really, and I've said this, and I think I've
told you this. I really want to go. Well, there's
two different places I want to for a summer Astros situation.
And I think they play well. I think they played
there last year. Maybe I'm not sure it was ironic
because I feel like it was out of the country.
I want to go to a game in Toronto. Well Toronto, Yes,
I feel like they were there on July fourth in
(01:11:17):
recent seasons. This past was yeah, that past year because
they were at home the year before and Jordan had
a walk off against the Kansas City Royals.
Speaker 5 (01:11:24):
I don't know why I remember that, but I do.
Speaker 4 (01:11:26):
July fourth of twenty twenty five will be spent away
from Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Twenty six You mean you said twenty five the Astros
twenty twenty five season.
Speaker 4 (01:11:39):
Oh yeah, yeah, will be spent away from twenty four
on July fourth, and they'll be They will be Probably
the fans that go to those games will probably want
to take a look at the brand new World Series
Championship trophy right there at Dodger Stadium.
Speaker 5 (01:11:56):
They're going to be in Dodger Stadium on the fourth
of July July.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Fourth, fifth, and sixth yes, July fourth is a Friday, man.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
See.
Speaker 5 (01:12:05):
The problem with that is that you'd have to go to.
Speaker 4 (01:12:07):
La See we've already done that trip, so that's out.
If we go later in July, we could catch a
Mariners game.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
That's the other place the Astros. See, here's the problem.
This is where we're gonna part ways. After the game,
I'm gonna get on a cruise ship and go to Alaska. Yeah,
they're all under some sort of consideration. In the middle
of July and Houston. I cannot think of a better
place I'd rather be than Alaska, the polar opposite of
what's happening.
Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
In Texas with the heat and everything else going on. Understandably,
so all.
Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
Right, well, good to know.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
I will start making my vacation plans right away and
not telling my wife about it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
Good for you.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
You and I are never going on a cruise together, okay,
unless it's sponsored by the station and fans and that
kind of thing.
Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
Are going along the Sports Talk seven to ninety cruise
brought to you by the eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
Seriously, the eighteen cruise would be legit. Yeah, it would
be awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
I don't know the value and credibility of some of
the Lions fans that have quote, tweeted and reacted to
the Lion's injury report.
Speaker 5 (01:13:06):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
With Taylor Decker being out, most likely that means Dan
Skipper is in. You know, the receiver they were trying
to throw passes to against the Cowboys. Yeah, the guy
who often reports eligible. And sometimes the referees recognize that,
and sometimes the referees don't. Yeah, someone says Dan Skipper
facing this Texans pass rush, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Out, Look, that's the thing. And I know see.
Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
Danil Hunter versus Dan Skipper.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
No thanks, but they're they're missing, they're losing sight of
the fact that Will Anderson is I mean, just it's
not Hutchinson, but it's close as far as a loss.
Speaker 4 (01:13:42):
No, there's one of the best pass rushers, and and
the way that things work out, I mean, it wasn't
identical because they use them all over the line. But
think back to when the Texans were throwing Genevian Clowning
and JJ Watt at teams. They were even more difficult
to handle because of how many different places they lined
up These two for the most part, Daniel's lined up
inside just a little bit this year, and it just
(01:14:04):
recently happened, but the two of them on each edge,
and they don't always stay on the same side. It's
been nightmarish for offensive lines and for teams in general.
And I don't see any reason why that would change
until one of them isn't there.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
And that's what's gonna happen this week.
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
And there's no telling with an ankle injury like this
if it's an extended period of time.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
Hopefully it isn't. I feel bad about this.
Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
I don't feel awful about it, but I'm not anticipating
necessarily returning super fast.
Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
Well, I mean one thing.
Speaker 4 (01:14:33):
One aspect of this game we have talked about a
ton is Jared Goff and having time to throw and
being at the top of the list and historical numbers
being posted in terms of completion percentage his last six
games best anybody in the NFL's ever seen. He's now
facing the number one defense in the NFL to combat
that they're allowing the lowest completion percentage in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (01:14:56):
Will Anderson's the reason.
Speaker 4 (01:14:58):
He's the only reason here. Come to tears again. You're
back on your tears game, can't win. Why bother you?
Guys don't need to go see the opener of Texans
Can't Win, signed Adam Clinton.
Speaker 1 (01:15:10):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:15:14):
However, if you decide to defy that and enjoy the
game and enjoy your tailgate, you can do so with
an ice cold, refreshing bud Light. Make sure that cooler
is full of those as you get set for Texans
football this weekend. Right inside not only those bud lights,
but the special edition Houston Texans cans from your friend's
over at bud Light.
Speaker 5 (01:15:31):
You've seen them in stores.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
I'd like to see them in that cooler, and I'd
like to see you enjoy your bud light just like
I do, safely and responsibly. This Sunday and any day
you might be enjoying your football and your bud light.
Speaker 5 (01:15:42):
Easy to Sunday, easy to enjoy. That's bud Light. Hey,
it's Blumber.
Speaker 9 (01:15:48):
The eighteen continues with Adam Clinton and Adam wexlerby there's.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
More asses on this show than a certain mix a
lot video And like your mother would not be proud.
Right now, baby's got those hot takes.
Speaker 2 (01:16:11):
He doesn't know it, but I'm thinking of reaching out
the Blumber because you've got a off day coming up
here sooner rather than later, I believe. Yeah, Thursday of
next week, be en route to Tucson in Arizona. I
think I'm gonna have him in here and make him
do all four hours. He doesn't know it yet.
Speaker 5 (01:16:28):
It'll be spectacular.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
I haven't reached out. We'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
Plus it's on TV, so you know he's gonna have
to like get dressed or whatever, not that he doesn't. Normally,
we are simulcast as per usual on Space City Home Network.
It is the A team Sports Talk seven to ninety
winding down the three o'clock hour, got two more to
go after that, as we take you up until six
o'clock tonight, and then I would say the biggest test
(01:16:53):
of the season for the Rockets as they take on
the Thunder. I know the Warriors came into town and
ran up to score to thirty one point lead, but
then the Rockets came all the way back and Steph
Curry didn't play that nice. I don't really count that one.
Although the Warriors are another team that only has one
loss on the year, and the Thunder just got theirs
I think the other night. In fact, Rockets are the
(01:17:14):
four seed right now this is all so so early.
I left not quite eighty one seventy four. Yeah, it's
very very early, But I mean, nobody's gonna apologize for
having one of the top four records in the West
at any given time.
Speaker 4 (01:17:30):
And yeah, five and three is the same record shared
by the Rockets and the Mavericks and the Timberwolves and
the Kings and the Nuggets. So I guess via tiebreaker
the Astro the Rockets have the number four seed. One
thing that actually I do think stands out already at
this point in the season.
Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
The Cavs are nine to zero. The Celtics are seven
and two.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
I just gave you the entire list of teams in
the Eastern Conference.
Speaker 4 (01:17:53):
That are over five hundred. Yeah, they suck, and I
don't really think that's gonna change much. I think the
Knicks willis over five hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
I'm done, sacky Bucks, and the Sixers will at least
be five hundred when they get healthy. How far under
five hundred are they going to be when they get there?
Speaker 4 (01:18:12):
Six Ers of the last seed right now, like fifteen
out of fifteen, they're about to start winning game.
Speaker 5 (01:18:19):
Three best players have been out?
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
Any commentators best player Tyrese Maxie just went down. Who's
their third best player? Oh, Paul George?
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
Okay, yeah, yeah, I know Maxis Maxi is their second
best player and Embiid is their best best player. I
had forgotten about Paul George because he'd played with you.
Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
I don't know if we really even got into Embiid's
suspension like we probably should have. I tried two things
to note about it. It's a suspension without pay, and
was it more than he Well, first of all, when
it's suspended without pay, meaning he's losing money based on
his contract or what his contract is for Alix to
(01:19:00):
this season, which is a lot of money. Y, it's
again how it's actually calculated, isn't strictly for well, he
signed a three or one hundred and ninety two million
dollar deals, So divided by three and then divide that
by eighty two and then multiply that by three. It's
actually a little bit less than that based on what
they're working off of. But for being upset like one
hundred percent of us would have been, and for getting
(01:19:22):
in a verbal discussion heated with the reporter or columnists
that wrote it, and then shoving him in the locker
room as it escalated.
Speaker 5 (01:19:30):
He's going to lose more than one.
Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
Million dollars, not quite two, and I'm not sure on
the exact figure, but it's in between one and two
million dollars for shoving a reporter who, by all accounts,
I would assume the PA for the NBA and management
and his team and many other members of the media
all agree way out of line. His behavior might have
(01:19:55):
also been out of line, but the column was way
out of line. I think it's not about equal punishment
or am not saying, well, Hayes isn't being punished for this,
and the newspaper's not doing that. They can do whatever
it is they feel necessary to do. I just wondered
did the league actually punish him too much? I think
as a deterrent, I totally get it. You can't have
(01:20:15):
it should never happen one time, and if it does,
which it has, you don't want it to happen a
second time. You don't ever want to open the door
for players to think, well, I'm not even gonna get
punished for doing something I think I should be doing.
And I'm not saying they're about to. But I get
it from the deterrent standpoint, But when you realize what
this cost him, literally that's an awful lot of money.
Speaker 2 (01:20:35):
I think you were doing something on the show when
I was talking about this early.
Speaker 5 (01:20:40):
I just I don't think I really because it just happens.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
I brought it.
Speaker 4 (01:20:43):
I only realized the you said he was suspended. I
maybe never heard the words if they were said without
pay the other guy, I should assume that it's without pay.
Speaker 5 (01:20:52):
Well, not that part was not brought up.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
But what I'm talking about is what you're saying here
at the end, which is that nothing happened to this reporter.
Speaker 5 (01:20:58):
He's not having any credential revoked.
Speaker 3 (01:21:00):
He's not.
Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
I mean, maybe he didn't work that beat for a week.
Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:21:05):
But like for Joel Embiid, who again did make the
physical contact, but he didn't just wake up that morning
and decide to go shove him, there was a reason
for it. I mean, like it's I'm believe me, in
this day and age, especially at this time of where
we're at in our society, far be it from me
to try and censor somebody's opinion or in that kind
of stuff, or try to cancel somebody that's not what
(01:21:27):
I'm getting at.
Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
But you can't.
Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
You can't be a journalist who's credentialed to go into
a locker room right about a team or you know whatever,
an individual player and you know, go there and not
expect something to come of it. And if it's a
player that gets physical with you, while it's not right
for the player to do that, what did you expect
(01:21:49):
to happen? Like, I don't what what what would be
better for Joel Embiid to do?
Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
Right, considering it never happened before, right, maybe you didn't
expect it to happen now, But how many other columns
that you knew were this incendiary and out of line?
Speaker 5 (01:22:03):
Had you ever penned or heard of some other reporter?
Speaker 4 (01:22:06):
And this columnist is not new to the beat, new
to the team, new to the city, new to covering
pro sports, very otherwise beyond this had been you know,
perfectly thought of in a perfectly normal way.
Speaker 2 (01:22:21):
Yeah, it's so, I do think it was too.
Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
There are limits from a PA standpoint, the union obviously
on what an individual player if they wanted to assess
a numerical fine, But the idea that it can be
almost unlimited, well, yeah, we're just suspending him for a
few games without pay. Well, if it's Joe l Embiid's
locker made who's a two way player, it's one thing.
If it's Joel Embiid, it's another. I don't I don't
(01:22:47):
think the amount of money he was fined matches what
has happened here. And I think in an effort to
make sure it doesn't happen again, they went further than
maybe they should have.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
The Well, yeah, and I feel like this happens so
much in sports, where the punishments for whatever, quote unquote crime,
you know, not literal at times, but other times it
is literal, and then it's degrees of that, like this
guy has been suspended how many games for smoking weed?
When this guy beat up his girlfriend and got less
time whatever we're talking about here, Like this kind of
stuff happens all the time, And I think it's because
(01:23:19):
and look, I think a lot of these like Joe
Dumars is the one that came down and announced this
because that's his rule.
Speaker 5 (01:23:26):
But I don't I don't think.
Speaker 2 (01:23:28):
That these guys just sit down willy nilly and say,
all right, we're just gonna arbitrarily throw out this number
of games or this number of fine, but like you
do kind of have to take all that into account,
and I do you know, it's funny you say, if
a two player, two way player, this happened too, that
would be a big deal too.
Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
Is there not making any money?
Speaker 5 (01:23:45):
Yes, it would be.
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
So that is what happened in that situation, healthy enough
to get ready to start serving that suspension. Rockets at
five and three, Thunder at seven and one. Their point
differential this year is plus fifteen, which is incredible. The Rockets,
by the way, they're in the top eight in offensive rating,
defensive rating, and net rating where they're fifth in the league.
Those are some of the things that if those remain
(01:24:08):
in that area, they're definitely going to be in that
top So.
Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
They're a top five rebounding team, they're a top five
I think defensive everything's good right now, believe it or not.
And a man Thompson and Tari Easton need to be
starting like yesterday. There's something to be said for where
they're using them. They're getting a little bit of extra juicy,
oftentimes against that second unit where it's even more pronounced
what they can do. So I think it's something to
(01:24:31):
consider obviously, we got that game coming for you up
in a couple hours from Oklahoma City, two hours in
two hours to go here on the A Team, The.
Speaker 1 (01:24:41):
A Team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
Two.
Speaker 1 (01:24:48):
Lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam talking your teams. Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.
Speaker 9 (01:25:00):
Eighty second half is underway here on Sports Talk seven
ninety It is the A Team Hour number three of
four wex and Ac with you taking up until six
o'clock to night.
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
As you heard last segment if you were tuned in,
then we'll make way for Rockets basketball against the OKC Thunder.
In the meantime, most of the conversation today has been
about Nico Collins because.
Speaker 3 (01:25:24):
He's back, baby, just not officially.
Speaker 4 (01:25:26):
Yeah, it's not official because he's not active. He's not
a part of their roster.
Speaker 5 (01:25:31):
Yet. You have some.
Speaker 4 (01:25:33):
Roster leniency with players that are on IR. You just
designate them for return and they have three weeks to
show that they are health. You usually don't bring them
into that window unless they're close. But we have seen
a couple other players. Adam Thielen comes to mind. He
was designated for a return a couple of weeks ago,
and each week has remained there and has not been
active for Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers, even with
(01:25:56):
them saying goodbye to other receivers Deontay Johnson, who could
not get out of bounds last night at the end
of the first half, nor did he decide to run
the ball to the line of scrimmage, which you should
do because this just in NFL wide receivers faster than
NFL officials cost him a couple of seconds, which is
really all they needed to get a spike and potentially
(01:26:18):
one more play. Also Jonathan Mingo at some point soon,
I'm sure we'll make a tremendous debut with Cooper Rush
and the Cowboys. But three Texans players this week had
their practice window of twenty one days opened as they've
been designated for return. They have all returned to practice.
It happened for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday's practice for Jeff
(01:26:39):
Akuda at corner and Jerry Hughes, one of their edge rushers.
Both of them practiced throughout the week varying levels of
participation and are listed as questionable. Nico Collins did not
have his window open until today. Before this morning's practice,
a late morning practice. You've seen that he was on
the field. You saw it in our show tweak today.
(01:27:00):
He was dancing and I make sure you got a
chance to see that. He immediately then hopped his way
into the team huddle, which they normally do after stretching,
and then get into their light Friday walkthrough practice.
Speaker 5 (01:27:13):
But he's listeners questionable.
Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
Also a limited participant today and again technically not on
the active roster yet none of those three players are
so roster manipulation would need to be made in if
either or any of those players are going to play,
they potentially have already done some of that. One roster
spot reopened today with Kenyon Green officially going to IR
(01:27:35):
the claim they put in on the offensive lineman Thomas
claimed the spot that was opened up by Khalil Davis.
Speaker 5 (01:27:42):
Davis, the defensive tackle who was sent.
Speaker 4 (01:27:44):
To San Francisco as Nick Cassario's move to save the
Niner season was made. Then I asked at the beginning
of the show via our show tweet or post on
the x platform, since Stamiko Ryan said it the other day,
different and much more able to stomach words, there's no
savior coming in on trade deadline day? We don't need
(01:28:06):
somebody to come in and save this team. That's not
usually how it works anyway. But I ask you, of
all people, president of the Nico Collins Fan Club, maybe
is Nico Collins the Texans savior at the trade deadline?
Much like we heard Dana Brown talking about it all season?
We're getting these guys back at the trade deadline. It's
(01:28:28):
like adding a player, and more often than not in baseball,
it absolutely is. Is that number twelve for the Texans
starting Sunday night against the Lions well savior for the offense,
saving them from their first place in the division season?
Speaker 2 (01:28:43):
What player that was acquired at the deadline would you
rank ahead of him based on what they provide for
any given team they went.
Speaker 4 (01:28:51):
To acquired if the deadline was a smart way to
say that considering just just moments ago.
Speaker 7 (01:28:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:28:59):
The San Francisco forty nine ers head coach noted that
Christian McCaffrey will be listed as questionable.
Speaker 5 (01:29:06):
He's playing, but he's good to go. He's playing.
Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
Had you asked it a different way, he would have
been my answer. Uh, Marcus Marshaun Latimore is not going
to play this week for the Commanders, he would rate
very highly on a game changing type of addition. Well,
but Darius Smith, all indications are he will be playing
with callin Sunday night.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
The Texans didn't go out and get anybody too, so
that's why this is key. I don't did the forty
nine ers make a trade? Yeah, they got Khalil Davis,
that's right. But on the offensive side, now, let's say.
Speaker 4 (01:29:37):
Deebo Samuel's a little bit healthier, Jawan Jennings a little
bit healthier, obviously, McCaffrey, even Mason, Jordan Mason, his reserve
has been banged up, banged up and getting the week
off and coming into this.
Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
It's a guy who spelled him very well, and he
was healthy.
Speaker 4 (01:29:50):
He's been in the top five in the NFC and
rushing throughout the season, even with some of his miss times.
So yeah, of players that happened to be returning from injury,
those two are are it. And I think because of
what Aaron Wilson's been reporting the last several weeks, we
brought it up a couple times that there weren't any setbacks.
Everything's testing out wells he is ready to go. You
(01:30:12):
want to be careful I do think they probably will
have him at a lower snap count, but I don't
think it's really going to impact his production. What could
impact his production is the offensive line and the defensive
secondary of the Lions.
Speaker 8 (01:30:29):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
Stroud is going to throw them the ball. If he's
on the field and he's running routes, he's going to
throw them the ball. If I set the targets for
an over under for him, that might be interesting.
Speaker 5 (01:30:39):
I think it's six and a half.
Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
I mean that has a pretty big number for a
wide receiver just returning from injury, playing in an offense
that's had two games in their last three where they've
only completed ten or eleven passes though two games. But
he's throwing thirty times. He threw thirty five times in
the games he's getting zero targets, and you just came
off of a game where two players got fifty plus
(01:31:02):
snaps and totaled five targets with no receptions. In talking
about Xavier Hutchinson and John Metchi. Somebody's gonna have to
catch the ball if we see completions this week, and
we're going to see targets no matter what, because that's
what this offense has to do in order to get
the ball down the field. They're not Joe Mixon's hundred
yards are great. Now, I'm not discounting what they mean,
(01:31:24):
but that's not what's moving them up and down the field.
They're not running for two hundred yards. The Ravens get
one hundred yards from Derrick Henry and then another one
hundred yards from Justice Hill and Lamar Jackson. They are
going up and down the field running the football at times.
Last night they did it through the air because the
Bengals eate tackling almost as much as the Ravens hated tackling.
The number of big play receptions and last night's Thursday
(01:31:46):
Night game, which now I have to bring up, what
an awful, awful, awful trash Thursday night matchup.
Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
The NFL served us up last time. All right, so
they get one right once a year. I mean that that.
Speaker 4 (01:32:01):
But you know what, it was one of the most
fun NFL games of the entire season.
Speaker 3 (01:32:04):
But you had.
Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
Had playing the schedule before the season, and you picked
those two teams, barring injuries galore, that was going.
Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
To be that we were gonna trip and have a
good game.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
T Higgins wasn't there well, when you scheduled Panthers and
the Jags on Thursday night, you also know that you're
giving the the the public a dog lick matchup that
is the antithesis of dog lick that you did last night.
Speaker 3 (01:32:32):
Come on, thirty five, thirty four.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
Are you down for the next game of the weekend?
Speaker 5 (01:32:36):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (01:32:37):
Let's we have Sunday morning football because Germany is hosting
the NFL at Alliance Arena in Munich.
Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
Well, of course, where else would they play?
Speaker 4 (01:32:46):
Listed as the home team, Bryce Young's crew listed as
the road team, Daniel Jones Crew.
Speaker 5 (01:32:53):
Yeah, I would not if somebody paid me a million
dollars to get out of bed to watch that.
Speaker 4 (01:32:59):
Dollar But of course, like there is a zero point
zero percent chance I will not be awake and watching
that game, of course, will.
Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
Be zero point zero percent chance I will watch a
second of that game.
Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
I have no desire to do that.
Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
And as a matter of fact, I will be coming
up here by halftime of the early slat of games
because the Rockets will be playing Detroit. But it doesn't
matter because I'm not going to miss a lick of
the Texans game that night against the Lions. And I
mean Josh C and I will keep an eye on
all things NFL and the other monitor in the room.
But did you see what the Texans just did? Speaking
(01:33:32):
of the Lions Texans matchup on social media now earlier today,
they planted the seed with the Nico Collins practice footage,
and by practice footage, I mean him dancing a little
bit and then running into a huddle for like twenty seconds.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
The Texans few minutes ago, like as we were starting
the four o'clock hour, had a video they posted on
their Twitter account, and I'm assuming they did this across
all platforms.
Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
That's just the way I saw it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
And the caption reads, we still see nothing wrong with
this touchdown and it's a video of way back on
Thanksgiving twenty twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:34:08):
I believe you've seen it, and now you've described it
very beautifully. I remember for set eighty ish yard, I
think it was a seventy eight yard touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
He was down.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Yeah, no, it's more the line of scrimmage is than nineteen. Okay,
so it's an eighty one yard touchdown run and he
was absolutely down. But I don't care because in dominic
and Sue stepped on Matt Shab in that same game.
Speaker 5 (01:34:30):
I believe didn't he.
Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
Uh maybe, I don't know if it's the same game,
but maybe that was when he was stepping on people.
He did the same thing Aaron Rodgers as a packer,
he did a lot of dirty things. Yeah, that was
a and they were down twenty four to fourteen when
he was gifted that upheld score that had never been
a score.
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
Only played the lines five times, they haven't lost the
Lions here in Houston. The team usually trots back into
the history banks for some of those things, like if
if JJ Watt and or pass the line of scrimmage
and runs it in for a touchdown against the Lions,
they would have probably posted that this week, which they did.
Speaker 5 (01:35:06):
Yeah, it's not the only team he did that against.
Speaker 4 (01:35:09):
Uh No, he did it against three different teams, I believe,
Buffalo and Cincinnati being the others.
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
And he did in Cincinnati against Cincinnati here in the playoffs.
So yeah, that was I do remember that game being
electric in a very kind of like an uphill battle
for the Texans because of that deficit they faced.
Speaker 3 (01:35:25):
But man, those are the good old days.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
Matt Schob before he went, you know, Matt Shob Richard
Sherman and company making him go mentally south. But uh yeah,
we'll see if this is another classic. That one obviously
happening in Detroit, this one happening ire in Houston. And
as we mentioned earlier in case you missed it or
you haven't seen, the roof will be open. I'm sure
it's gonna be nice and muggy and not feel like
(01:35:52):
mid November at all by the time they kicked that
thing off in an open air stadium.
Speaker 5 (01:35:56):
But you know what, that's just fine.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
It could be worse.
Speaker 5 (01:35:59):
I suppose We've got.
Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
Plenty more, including our Stone Cold Locks coming up here
in the four o'clock hour on Sports Talk seven ninety

Speaker 10 (01:36:48):
Ninety Can I go back to back five and zero?
Speaker 2 (01:37:02):
That's what really people care about here on the eight
team Sports Talk seven nineteen. Well, they're being asked politely
by me to not care about it for another thirteen
minutes until we get to the segment. I'm not saying
we're doing this segment. I'm teasing ahead so that people
know that when it comes down to a segment, it's
called stone cold Locks. I'm the one to listen to,
(01:37:22):
not these other two yahoo's on this show.
Speaker 5 (01:37:25):
But we'll get to it when we get to it.
Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
Who's in the lead you? Okay, so it's not just
for once?
Speaker 5 (01:37:30):
Yeah? Now, Well, like I said, we'll get to it
when we get to it.
Speaker 3 (01:37:33):
I like, how diehard competitive you are?
Speaker 2 (01:37:34):
You so competitive that you didn't even update the very
last win I had until like days later this week.
Speaker 5 (01:37:40):
Okay, you were bitter, no, aren't you?
Speaker 3 (01:37:42):
Probably?
Speaker 5 (01:37:43):
And it kept you up nights, didn't it. What was
the last game? Not Sunday? It was Monday? Yeah, So
that's why it got updated later in the week.
Speaker 2 (01:37:50):
When it was played, you could have hit the over
like by halftime, it was like off the charts and
the charts off the charts. Well, it's because Pat Mahomes
finally played like Pat Mahome.
Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
Yeah, because d Hopp is in the house.
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
That is crazy, because I didn't just pick him up
on the waivers. I drafted that guy this year in
the late rounds.
Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
And based on your the progress of your team, you
were probably starting him each week when he was trying
to catch passes from Will Levis, who thanks for sending
us to the news. Will Levis is going to start
this week for the first time in weeks for the
Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
Great, you know what that's like, Hey, should I drown
or burn to death? That's their quarterback situation. This is
not a lie and it's not said for effect. This
is a fact.
Speaker 5 (01:38:31):
He gives them a better chance to All.
Speaker 4 (01:38:32):
Four AFC South teams are playing on Sunday m HM.
The AFC South starting quarterbacks this weekend in the NFL
in games that count in the standings.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
CJ.
Speaker 4 (01:38:42):
Stroud is going to make the start for the Texans.
Will Levis is going to make the start for the Titans,
Mac Jones is going to make the start for the
Jacksonville Jaguars, and Joe Flacco.
Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
Is going to make the start for the Indianapolis Colts.
Speaker 4 (01:38:54):
This is how the other three teams in the division
are chasing down the text with Joe Flacco, Will Levis
and Mac Jones.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
Well, see that's where when you say chasing down, I
don't believe you.
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
The threat of being caught by these three teams, led
by those three players. The Texans are so scared right now,
so scared, frightened.
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
Now Will I don't know, worried about what's in their
immediate future because of what has just happened to the NFL.
Speaker 4 (01:39:23):
A week ago, things weren't like this, but like this week,
it's new. And two weeks ago it really wasn't like this.
But something has happened inside our division that has changed
things dramatically. Three weeks ago, I could have told you
one of those teams is starting the former number one
overall pick in the NFL draft, and another one of
those teams is starting very highly touted prospect, a top
(01:39:45):
four pick himself, Anthony Richardson. But then something major happened
inside this division that has changed the outlook for much,
well basically much of America. Because now it's Mac Jones,
Joe Flacco, and Will Levis up again, someone who's trying
to make the Texans great again.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
C J Stroud.
Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
CJ Stroud a wonderful quarterback. The other three it's like
comparing Prime RIBB to lunch meet. Here's the deal. I
don't like what you're doing right now, and I'll tell
you why you are like it. No, because what you're doing,
you're it's you're it's like a karmic thing. You're saying
this stuff as CJ's about to go up against the Lions,
(01:40:25):
and you're talking about these three other quarterbacks starting this week.
When you need to be worried about your quarterback finishing
this week, You'll.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
Finish this week.
Speaker 4 (01:40:34):
This is absolutely what I brought up about four weeks ago.
This is Tom Brady or now it's Pat Mahomes or
Josh Allen. Forget it, man, I mean the Texans have
to do so little, like if we just protect him
a little bit, that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:40:48):
But they haven't been a divisions your yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:40:52):
First time, oh my gosh, how many times?
Speaker 4 (01:40:56):
Under on eight sacks tomorrow or Sunday night. I'll take
the under. I won't, Yeah, you will against the Lions.
Do you think he's getting sacked nine times? What are
you the principal at Ferris Bueller School?
Speaker 5 (01:41:05):
Nine times?
Speaker 2 (01:41:06):
It's it's probably not likely to happen, but if it did,
you wouldn't be shocked.
Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
I would be shocked.
Speaker 4 (01:41:11):
Why he's not gonna get sacked nine times? Shocked? Thought
I'd threaten to leave the show for the second day
in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
That door, just through a wall, something like that. I mean,
how demonstrative is this going to be? He's not getting
sacked nine times?
Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
If he gets sacked more than eight times, do you
know what I'm gonna do on Monday?
Speaker 4 (01:41:30):
What if he has eight sacks and he decides to
slide down behind the line of scrimmage for sack number nine?
Speaker 8 (01:41:37):
What is he.
Speaker 5 (01:41:37):
Brett Farv and there's Michael Strahan bearing down on him.
Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
He just starts to slide too soon, and it's technically
a sack. I'm not too worried. I mean, I'm worried
about the game and we're sacked numbers again. It's all
about the hits and the plays that get blown up
and the inability to complete passes. That's that's still probably there.
I don't want people to think that the Lions have
a great front. I just unfortunately know that they need
to realize they're playing against the Texans front offensive front,
(01:42:02):
and it's unfortunately been a different pronunciation of that word.
It's been offensive. What they've been unable to put together
these last three games. We'll find out Sunday around five
forty five, maybe a little bit earlier than that on
the inactive well, we'll find out at that time the inactives.
But as the Texans hit the field for their first
set of kind of walk through warm ups, the position
(01:42:23):
groups go out there kind of one by one, and
then the offensive line is going to line up and
start taking snaps and going through their routine, and we
will see what their five man alignment will be for
this game, which I'm sure will be more successful than
the last one. The last game that for as many
times as CJ. Stroud said, you know, sometimes you need
to be punched in the mouth, and maybe you need
it more than once, maybe you need a.
Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
Wake up call.
Speaker 4 (01:42:43):
For as many times he said it, truly that game
had to be It could you manage your way through
a four sack game with nine hits. Could you manage
your way around a two sack game with another eight hits?
You don't want it, but could you manage your way
around it?
Speaker 3 (01:42:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:42:57):
Maybe eight sacks, many of which are on third down
drive killers, point scoring killers, out of field goal range killers. No,
cannot survive that, And the physical part of it is
also in question.
Speaker 5 (01:43:09):
Every time.
Speaker 4 (01:43:10):
He has gotten hit plenty and far too often in
his two years as Texans quarterback. The result of one
of those hits had him with a concussion and had
him missing two games and unfortunately started him early in
year one. I mean by the fact that it happened
in year one with concussion number one as an NFL quarterback.
That was documented in the last couple of games. This
(01:43:30):
last game more than the other two before it, there
were a lot more post play slow to get ups
for CJ. Stroud, hip legs, shoulders, all of which could
have been banged up on any particular hit or sack
or both got to be cut down significantly.
Speaker 5 (01:43:51):
Well, all of that said, it could be worse.
Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
You could be up the road in Dallas where this
is not going to come as a surprise because we
kind of knew it was coming, but it hadn't really
been and it's not official, but it is because Stephen
Jones just went on the radio and set.
Speaker 4 (01:44:07):
Yeah, the paperwork hasn't been turned right because much like
the general manager here, the general manager, there's like ah
more paperwork.
Speaker 2 (01:44:13):
Injured reserve for Dak Prescott. But the thing is that's
just a minimum of four weeks, as we know all
too well because of Nico Collins, but multiple sources saying
he's looking at six to eight.
Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Weeks of recovery.
Speaker 2 (01:44:27):
That pretty much puts a bow on the either really
really good or really really bad season. I predicted him
for the Dallas Cowboys. I just sure they've still got
some talent and it's almost certainly going to be Cooper
Rush next week on Monday Night against the Texans, unless
it's Trey Lance. But man, that is about as bad
(01:44:49):
a scenario if you're a Cowboys fan as you could
have ever seen coming with the contract situation, with everything
that happened going into this season, and now you know,
in light of this again, Texans have business in front
of them obviously, but that was supposed to be a
just colossal matchup on Monday Night Football, and it's just
(01:45:10):
gotten the win.
Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
Taken out of the sales of it as far as
that goes.
Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Because I mean, come on, CJ is going to be
there and the Texans are going to be probably awesome,
and even if Micah Parsons is there, I Cooper Rush,
that's not.
Speaker 4 (01:45:23):
Always gonna You know, you got a longer way to
go in the season before you're out of, say a
wild card race. But they're essentially out of the division race.
They're in third still right well, they're in third, but
they're three games back of Philly, who they play. They're
four or three and a half games back of the Commanders,
who play the Steelers, and then two weeks from now
they play the Cowboys. Haven't seen the Cowboys yet this year,
(01:45:44):
I mean seeing is that you have two games each
against both of them. You're not out of the division race,
but because you're not good, you're out of the division race.
Speaker 5 (01:45:54):
You're three and six.
Speaker 2 (01:45:55):
If you lose the Eagles this week, they're probably going
to lose the Eagles this week, you're.
Speaker 5 (01:45:59):
Three and seven.
Speaker 4 (01:45:59):
If the Texans seven loss teams can get to ten wins,
but seven lost teams with the talent of the Cowboys
starting Cooper Rush or Trey Lance cannot So yeah, I
think their season will likely essentially end in the next
two weeks and there wouldn't be any reason for Dak
Prescott to play football this year off of that injury,
and this season will so.
Speaker 5 (01:46:19):
Six to eight weeks really just means he's done for
the year.
Speaker 4 (01:46:21):
They would they would have to be in the race,
in my opinion, like not eliminated an eight weeks or
six to eight weeks from now. They literally could be
actually fit you literally mathematically eliminated the chase.
Speaker 5 (01:46:30):
Yeah, I think they will.
Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
I know they have a lot of talents, and it
makes me wonder Michael Parsons is playing this week.
Speaker 5 (01:46:36):
Correct every indications he is ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:46:39):
Yes, So.
Speaker 5 (01:46:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
I mean we had talked about that, Well, will we
play against either Dak Prescott or their defense? Is that
what you're getting at? No, because he doesn't screw the
game up, I don't think. I mean, what's when's the
last time Michael Parsons made it a boneheaded play that
cost them a game.
Speaker 5 (01:46:55):
Dak does that all the time.
Speaker 4 (01:46:56):
He saved that for the offseason with his commentary alongside
CJ Strout all off season when CJ had to keep
calling him out.
Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
You're just looking at one, Yeah, sitting on the couch
with one exactly. We'll see if that boy CJ's saying
that and not knowing that his offensive line was going
to be porus is gonna probably make for an interesting subplot.
Not a quarterback driven one though, because you can't really
talk about that matchup anymore after this news. But first
things first, you got the Detroit Lions in town this
(01:47:24):
Sunday night. That is one of the picks we will
make as our stone cold locks are right around the corner.
Speaker 3 (01:47:32):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:47:37):
I think it's football season. This just in pop the
top on an ice cold, refreshing bud like, enjoy your
football any night. They play every night, and you got
a bunch of college games this weekend where you can
get your tailgate on. Of course, you got the home
game over at the stadium with your Texans where you
can enjoy your Houston Texans. Special edition bud Light cans
(01:47:57):
that new H logo and blazoned right on it.
Speaker 5 (01:48:00):
Beer tastes the same fantastic easy.
Speaker 4 (01:48:02):
To Sunday, easy to enjoy, enjoy it safely and responsibly,
just like I do your bud light.
Speaker 11 (01:48:10):
This is Cambigmore here every Rockets game, Sports Talk seven
nine and streaming on the iHeartRadio app Home of your Rockets.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
Remember that magic eight ball A nice little shaken.
Speaker 3 (01:48:27):
Look at this I'm getting laid tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
Could make an answer, guys giving it to you. You
can trust whatever it said, or you could trust these
two guys named Adam.
Speaker 3 (01:48:37):
It's a crap shoot either way. But these are your
Stone Cold.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
Locks because Stone Cold said so, I missed that guy
on the intro.
Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
I really do.
Speaker 5 (01:48:51):
He's around. You're just not part of it anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:48:54):
You have been waiting for this for a while in
light of the fact that you performed.
Speaker 5 (01:48:57):
By a week ago.
Speaker 4 (01:49:00):
For our Stone Cold Locks, we make five selections each week.
One has to be on the Texans game, another has
to be a prop another has to be our college
football game of the weekend. Usually, at the opening of
the segment, we take a look back and see how
we performed. I actually not only did I not update
the document that we keep internal to track this, I
(01:49:21):
also neglected to update Monday's version of the week ten results.
As you can see when we take a look at
the week ten results, it actually says you went four
and oh last week, but in fact you went five
and oh unbelievable. All of your games are right there
in white. There's no you missed three games like I did.
There's no you missed one game like Dan did. So
(01:49:43):
if you were listening to the smart people last week,
and it changes every week, who those people are.
Speaker 5 (01:49:47):
Last week it was Dan and you.
Speaker 4 (01:49:49):
You guys got nine out of ten selections correct, I
got two right two?
Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
Wait to bring us down, Dan.
Speaker 4 (01:49:55):
I brought us down three losses for me if you're
one mistake now, Xans did okay for us in light
of the fact that both of you thought the game
would go under, and it went under.
Speaker 3 (01:50:05):
Oh so U.
Speaker 5 (01:50:06):
It was right there for everyone to see.
Speaker 3 (01:50:08):
Halftime.
Speaker 4 (01:50:08):
I was like, lock, yes, Ohio State, Dan, and I
believing that they would manage to beat Penn State by
three or more points.
Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
I thought was rather easy. But of course you won
that all.
Speaker 4 (01:50:18):
So looking ahead to this week, as we make our
selections and run through what things look like for our
must selects Alabama and LSU.
Speaker 5 (01:50:27):
That is the night game tomorrow night in the.
Speaker 4 (01:50:29):
SEC that has everybody excited about it, even are now
absent usual Friday four PM guest Chris Gordy.
Speaker 5 (01:50:36):
It would have been here the last two segments.
Speaker 4 (01:50:38):
Actually he would have been, but instead he's chosen to
enjoy college football in person. He'll be there tomorrow night
for that game. Alabama is a two and a half
point road favorite at LSU. The over under at fifty
eight and a half. The Texans are a home dog
just like LSU sits at three and a half points.
The over under is at forty nine. Dan, you could
(01:51:00):
take the lead on this and run through all of your.
Speaker 5 (01:51:04):
Picks, but the Texans game, please.
Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
All right? So I'm gonna start prop. I'm gonna go.
Speaker 8 (01:51:09):
I'm n ross Saint Brown over sixty nine and a
half receiving yards nice two wild cards. I'm gonna go
South Carolina on the road at Vanderbilt as a six
and a half point favorite. Falcons at the Saints. I'm
gonna go three and a half for the Birds over
the Florida Lees and Bama LSU. I'm going the AC route.
I'm going the over fifty eight in the hook.
Speaker 5 (01:51:30):
It's a special.
Speaker 9 (01:51:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:51:31):
The AC route is to look only at the total yes,
but unlike what happens regularly here when we fitch the
pick the college game or the Texans game are both obviously,
I don't think it's happened even one time all season
until today, where all of our picks are different on
(01:51:53):
those six combined. Oh, we've all taken something different on
the college game of the week. We've all taken something
different on the Texans, which.
Speaker 5 (01:52:01):
We'll get to.
Speaker 4 (01:52:01):
Somebody's gonna die momentarily. Let's hear your four picks. Do
not give us the Texans pick just yet.
Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
Well, I will start with my prop because it does
involve the Texans game, So without giving away what I
think about the game itself, Joe Mixon eighty and a
half rushing yards is the number.
Speaker 4 (01:52:19):
Yeah, he's not giving it away to our listeners. It's
been given away in full view to our viewers on
Space City Home Network thanks to the graphic.
Speaker 2 (01:52:26):
Absolutely, that's an over. Anytime he plays he gets one
hundred yards.
Speaker 3 (01:52:32):
Yeah, barring in in game injury, I.
Speaker 4 (01:52:34):
Think that's for that time. It's a big number. I mean,
any running back getting a number in that neighborhood. There
are only three running backs averaging at the clip. He
is this year, he's more comfortable.
Speaker 5 (01:52:44):
It was a sixty. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:52:45):
Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, and Joe Mixon, all new additions
to their respective teams, are one two three in average
yards rushing per game, and it is well over eighty
even with the game that he played in, which drags
it down because it counts as a game played and
he clearly didn't run for many yards.
Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
And I just feel like if the Texans are going
to be successful, much like that Packers game, he's going
to have to be successful.
Speaker 3 (01:53:09):
Hence they're going to be giving him the ball at
the time.
Speaker 4 (01:53:11):
News undiscussed by us, yet we'll give that to from
him at five o'clock. Newly elected team captain Joe Mixon
will have the sea on his red jersey for Sunday
night's game. He talked a little bit about that this
is another newcomer anointed with the captain's jersey. There are
several captains. If you remember at the beginning of the year,
(01:53:32):
one of those captains a newcomer, Stefan Dicks, many times
a captain in his previous stops, was again here upon arrival.
And now Joe Mixon voted a new team captain. He's
humbled by it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:44):
Yeah, well, obviously we'll let him tell you about she
really enjoys it here then taking them off. He sure
sounds like it. Yeah, all right to the BAM at
LSU game. I know that it kind of bucks the
trend of this season saying this can be a defensive
matchup because it's the SEC. But I just do feel
like that more often than not, the defenses in the
SEC are upper echelon and in that vein, I can't
(01:54:04):
go over fifty eight and a half, so I'll take
the under on that game.
Speaker 4 (01:54:08):
Let me ask Dan a quick question about that game
in light of the fact is you took the under?
Speaker 5 (01:54:13):
Okay, he took the over.
Speaker 4 (01:54:14):
I'm gonna set a random over under from that game,
and I think it'll help describe why each of you
took what you took. If I set the over under
at zero point five non offensive touchdowns scored in that game, Dan,
what would you take under?
Speaker 5 (01:54:28):
You're taking the under?
Speaker 8 (01:54:29):
Yeah, these are two defenses that give up a lot
of yards and a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
Wow, so there is not gonna be a non offensive touchdown.
Speaker 3 (01:54:37):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:54:37):
I feel like Will Ferrell in.
Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
The other guys did that go out. You thought it
was going to that, did not.
Speaker 4 (01:54:44):
Know how I thought it was going to go I
thought in now I know these offenses do exactly what
you said they did.
Speaker 5 (01:54:51):
That is absolutely on point.
Speaker 4 (01:54:52):
But one of those types of scores is what is
going to make Dan correct and you incorrect in going
over Dan fifty eight and a half and you're taking
the under.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
All right, the rest of.
Speaker 5 (01:55:04):
Your picks Broncos at Chiefs, wife, you're kidding me, right, seriously?
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
What is going on?
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:55:12):
Are you guys messing with me? Even Mendez?
Speaker 5 (01:55:15):
Anyway? Over forty two. I feel like that's a division game.
Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
The Chiefs are rounding into form offensively, There's gonna be
some points in that one. Broncos killer defense, oh Nicks,
huge offensive.
Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
Guys to run the ball.
Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
Yeah, okay, take me, I'll take it, take the over.
Speaker 2 (01:55:31):
I'm taking the over forty two and Steelers and Commanders
on the strength of the most dynamic rookie in the
NFL this year, thinking of some other ones, Nope, he's
the one. So I'll take the over on that game too.
The forty five is the number on the Steelers commander's games.
Speaker 5 (01:55:46):
Yeah, something of note.
Speaker 4 (01:55:46):
I think we need to discuss next segment about their
quarterback and we will do that. Let me give you
my picks, and I'll include the Texans and we'll hit
you guys on the other side to get them. I'll
take LSU to cover at home, considering their dogs, I'll
take the Viking to handle the opposition this week and
their quarterback troubles.
Speaker 5 (01:56:03):
Six and a half point favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
I'm taking the over in the Will Levis Justin Herbert matchup,
which is very, very surprising, but I'm doing it anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:56:12):
Josh Downs. With Michael Pittman out for the Colts, I'll
take him at over sixty five and a half rushing yards.
And my pick that is unlike your picks on the Texans,
I'm taking the over Texans Lions at home. Lions are
the number one scoring team in the NFL. But facing
a good defense, your pick obviously, what's you're over under
(01:56:33):
on the Texans game? That's gonna be a under that
leaves you to take the line. What would you like
Texans plus three and a half?
Speaker 8 (01:56:42):
Dan, When you go to Texans three and a half
Nico Collins, they're four and one with.
Speaker 5 (01:56:45):
Them, there are four and one with him.
Speaker 4 (01:56:48):
This would make them five in one, although technically yes,
if they win, they would they would cover.
Speaker 3 (01:56:53):
And there you have it.
Speaker 4 (01:56:55):
The week eleven, we're eleven weeks in crazy to these
Stone Cold Locks.
Speaker 5 (01:56:59):
A note about c J.
Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
Stroud and the Commander's quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:57:03):
Next the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:57:10):
He's technical.
Speaker 5 (01:57:12):
How do you know that? Because he's freaking.
Speaker 3 (01:57:13):
Awesome and well he's a spectacle.
Speaker 2 (01:57:17):
I have taken this segment and just flung it out
this window.
Speaker 1 (01:57:21):
Adam Wexler, Adam Clinton, The A team continues on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:57:31):
Ran through our Stone Cold Locks last segment. We'll hit
football at five coming up in our next segment, and
I noted something that you brought up regarding the Commanders.
They've got the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend. A matchup between
Russell Wilson and Jade Daniels. Jade and Daniels burst on
the college football scene last year and wrote it all
the way to dominating the Circuit Award winning season for
(01:57:53):
him and the lead up to this draft where some
regard him as the best prospect out there and most
others regarded that to be Caleb Williams and a few
other young first year quarterbacks are obviously on the field.
Drake may is playing. We will get to see some
others over the course of the season. Probably bo Nix
is playing. He and those two three I should say,
(01:58:13):
excuse me, three of those four have all started from
the beginning of the season and all the way leading
up to the season. I pushed back really, really hard
against all of the narrative of who's gonna be an
X CJ Stroud? We just watched CJ Stroud do it.
Who's gonna be the next CJ Stroud? Nobody said it
two years ago, like, man, one of these quarterbacks, Bryce
(01:58:34):
or CJ or Somebody's gonna have this unbelievable, never seen before,
best ever rookie season by a quarterback. And in light
of the fact we had never seen it and then
CJ delivered it. I wanted to this offseason looking at
this draft class and saying, yeah, just like any draft class,
there's some really good prospects in it, but why would
I think one of them is about to do what
we've never seen before?
Speaker 5 (01:58:53):
Again, And I kept saying it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (01:58:56):
These people that keep making this a story and trying
to tell you which one of these guys.
Speaker 5 (01:59:01):
It's gonna be somebody, is it? Caleb Williams.
Speaker 4 (01:59:03):
You look at what he did and he's a Heisman
Trophy winner and candidate, and he's gonna come in here
and he's got all the tools, he's got all the skills. Yeah,
he's gonna have that kind of season. Or if you
don't think that, maybe it's Jayden Daniels, maybe it's Drake May.
No man, nobody's gonna do that. Yeah, Jaden Daniels is
doing that. There's no way around it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:21):
At this point.
Speaker 4 (01:59:21):
It's probably four or five weeks overdue, make winning plays
and you're having a season like CJ. They're definitely doing
it differently. He's not asked to throw the ball nearly
as much because they've really found a way to move
the ball up and down the field with their assortment
of runners and looks like this week it's another week
without Brian Robinson Junior. He's finally gotten back the elite status.
(01:59:46):
I think for Terry McLaurin, maybe number one in the
NFL right now in most underrated wide receiver. Talking about
Terry McLaurin, they clearly changed head coaches, They clearly changed
offensive coordinators. That has been a brilliant f and a
hat tip to Cliff Kingsbury for the job that he's
doing there. This is about winning football games, and your
(02:00:06):
quarterback impacts winning football games more than any other player
you put out there every single week. And Daniels just
keeps making those things happen whether he has to run
for it, and he could easily have an eight hundred
nine hundred yard rushing season, if not a little bit more,
depending on how often he scrambles. Moving forward, he's been spectacular.
The numbers are going to look very different than CJS.
(02:00:28):
He's only got nine touchdown passes this year, but it's
about making winning football plays. That's what CJ did last
year that made so many people realize this guy is elite.
This guy's one of the first five best quarterbacks at
least in the AFC, if not maybe in the entire league.
After watching him play only fifteen games plus two playoff games,
I'm not sure where you want to rate Jaden Daniels
(02:00:50):
right now, but it's got to be pretty high, and
it's certainly very high in the NFC, and I don't
really see why that's going to change next year. The
year after unless other things don't work out see the
Houston Texans in year two for CJ strout.
Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
Yeah, and it's not all on the other factors. CJ
has some culpability. It sounds like too strong of a
word as to why things aren't going as well this year.
Speaker 4 (02:01:15):
J should you have found you know, some other receivers
some checkdowns on a few plays, probably over the last
three weeks.
Speaker 5 (02:01:20):
His answer would be yes.
Speaker 4 (02:01:22):
I wouldn't be much more than that, but yeah, there's
some of it there, very small percentage.
Speaker 2 (02:01:26):
I just by the way, since we're on the subject,
do you think.
Speaker 3 (02:01:32):
Do you think Jayden Williams is having a better.
Speaker 2 (02:01:35):
Now you're confusing me which one James Daniels or Caleb Williams?
Speaker 3 (02:01:38):
Sorry?
Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
Jad and Daniels, I'm sorry, is having a better rookie
season than CJ's up to this point.
Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
I mean, I know it's not complete.
Speaker 4 (02:01:45):
Probably yes, Like it's more I would say, probably just crazy.
He was taking over, would you say, a floundering franchise. Yeah,
a franchise that was clearly in front off his disarray.
They're just removed from the horrific Daniel Snyder era. They
changed head coaches. Dan Queen is the new head coach,
new offensive coordinator. He had more experience than Bobby Slok did. Obviously,
(02:02:09):
Chris or Cliffs Kingsbury was not only the OC but
essentially the play caller. He was running the offense with
Kyler Murray and uh Arizona. But they are They're awesome,
They're dominant, they're doing they've they've had multiple games where
your five, six, seven possessions into the game and they've
scored points on every single one of them. They've won
(02:02:31):
a bunch of close games too, you know, some field
goal fests, but they're they've been incredible. And remember this
season opened with a loss. The last eight games for
the Commanders seven wins. They're seven to two and atop
their division.
Speaker 2 (02:02:48):
And he didn't he hasn't had a dud game or
multiple ones like CJ had last year. I mean, I
would say the Carolina game. He's got to give him
a whole season to get there.
Speaker 5 (02:03:02):
But yeah, Atlanta game. Yeah, he had a very.
Speaker 4 (02:03:04):
Brief game a couple of weeks ago when he played
against Carolina. Obviously he was hurt in that game and
Mariota finished that one out.
Speaker 5 (02:03:11):
But other than that, he's been pretty good.
Speaker 4 (02:03:12):
His game against Cleveland probably wasn't awesome, but they also
won it very, very easily. He also ran for eighty
two yards in that game. He's been incredibly effective. He's
been incredibly accurate, which was one of the things for
as little as he played at that high level at
LSU or in college. I think some people were concerned
(02:03:34):
about it.
Speaker 5 (02:03:35):
Is that going to be here?
Speaker 4 (02:03:36):
Is he going to be able to, you know, complete
passes at the rate we think you need to, And
he's far surpassed that.
Speaker 5 (02:03:44):
He's doing it differently.
Speaker 4 (02:03:45):
I've said it a couple times already this segment, but
he's having a comparably strong, if not better season to
date than last year's offensive rookie of the year.
Speaker 2 (02:03:55):
I just never I mean, it's one thing to say
we're never going to see this again. It's another to say,
actually you will, and it's gonna be the very next year.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:04:02):
Seventy one point five completion percentage. I mean, Jared Goff
might think that's not very good, but it's incredible, And
as I pointed out, I think there's a really good
chance here you're looking at a Michael Vick Lamar Jackson
type of ground game from him permanently. Certainly you're gonna
see that this year. He's already sitting at four hundred
and fifty nine yards in his eight full games plus
(02:04:24):
the game he was heard in.
Speaker 5 (02:04:26):
That's but it's incredible. It's not done yet. No, it's
not done yet.
Speaker 2 (02:04:29):
And I'm not saying things are gonna go horribly south.
But you gotta finish strong. You gotta finish year. And oh,
by the way, you need to lead your team to
the playoffs the division, and you gotta win at least
one playoff game.
Speaker 5 (02:04:40):
I like their chances of doing those things.
Speaker 3 (02:04:42):
I really do.
Speaker 4 (02:04:42):
They're they're again, if you don't win the division in
their games, remaining in the division might help dictate that
they're lined up to host a playoff game.
Speaker 2 (02:04:51):
And he's clearly going to be the rookie of the year.
That's not even a question, just like it was with CJ.
Speaker 5 (02:04:56):
Totally agree.
Speaker 3 (02:04:57):
All Right, five o'clock hour coming up next.
Speaker 2 (02:04:59):
It is going to be football at five when we
return for our fourth and final hour of the show.
Speaker 4 (02:05:05):
Yeah, we also will give you another minute of content
here before we get to the break.
Speaker 3 (02:05:08):
Oh did I jump the gun?
Speaker 11 (02:05:09):
That?
Speaker 4 (02:05:09):
I mean, it's up to you I mean, I probably
could handle it. If you want to step out early.
I don't know if maybe there's a reason for that.
Speaker 5 (02:05:14):
I'm not in any hurry.
Speaker 4 (02:05:15):
Okay, well hang with me for the next minute. We'll
talk sports all ready for the final hour?
Speaker 3 (02:05:18):
All right?
Speaker 2 (02:05:19):
So when these when CJ and the Lions get together
on Sunday night and Nico Collins has his nine catches
for one hundred and twenty yards and two touchdowns, the
final score is close, is it a you know, that
would buck the trend if the Texans have anything other
than an absolutely nail bier. Right, it's not gonna be
(02:05:43):
decided on the final series.
Speaker 3 (02:05:45):
I don't want it to be either way.
Speaker 4 (02:05:47):
He doesn't like drama on the football field, even though
everybody else I've had enough of it this year.
Speaker 5 (02:05:52):
Sorry, we're just past the halfway. Why does every game
have to be that way? That's not completely a loss?
Speaker 4 (02:05:57):
Hey, NFL, what are you doing to make everybody's so
interested in your games?
Speaker 3 (02:06:00):
It's weird.
Speaker 5 (02:06:02):
Yeah, it's gonna be that way. That would be great.
Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
I'm all for it.
Speaker 5 (02:06:04):
Five o'clock.
Speaker 1 (02:06:05):
Next, the A team on Sports Talk seven ninety two
lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team A.
Speaker 4 (02:06:33):
It's five o'clock and for us that means the final
hour of the program, and for you that means, I hope,
if not already, get the heck out of there, enjoy
watching us on.
Speaker 5 (02:06:43):
Your way to wherever you're going.
Speaker 4 (02:06:45):
If you're already there, maybe you're happy ho or on
your way through your Sports Talk seven ninety app or
in your car, or right there on Space City Home
Network as we deliver football at five here on the
A Team. If you were unaware, We've let you know
a couple of times. Now it's a good time to
do so again. Texans did open up the practice window
for a wide receiver. Nico Collins, had been designated for
(02:07:05):
return off of injured reserve, was participating in practice today
listed as a limited practice participant, unsurprisingly and also unsurprisingly
listed as questionable today, but both of us believe that's
a mere formality in front of being put on the
fifty three manter active roster before the game and being
(02:07:27):
not a part of their inactive list, thus returning to
the field to help the offense Sunday night against the
Detroit Lions. Will Anderson is officially out, as he was
listed today on the injury report and will not be
available to the Texans. Missed a couple of games last year.
This is the first game or games he will miss
this upcoming season or this season, I should say. Their
(02:07:50):
defensive line may also be without fully Foughtacasi, although I
bet you he will be active.
Speaker 5 (02:07:56):
He's listed as questionable.
Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
He had Dylan Horton missing a practice this week due
to ill Derek Barnett was limited a little bit earlier.
Speaker 5 (02:08:02):
In the week.
Speaker 4 (02:08:03):
Both of them should be available, and Jerry Hughes, also
along the defensive line, had his practice window opened up
earlier this week. He practiced throughout the week, listed as
questionable and that he's not yet on the roster as
same way as Nico. It's also the same story for
Jeff Okuda. Could note that Deniko Autrey did not practice today,
but that was only due to rest.
Speaker 5 (02:08:23):
He will be ready to go for the.
Speaker 4 (02:08:25):
Team on Sunday night, and their backfield will once again
be without Damian Pierce, same as it was a week
ago and for much of the season. Unfortunately, two different
leg injuries. If you call a groin a leg injury.
That's the current injury for Damian Pierce.
Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
What did you call that? Not a leg?
Speaker 5 (02:08:41):
But it's not the middle.
Speaker 4 (02:08:43):
Of your torso, bottom of the area underneath your waste
and above the legs that attach to your hips. That's
probably what I would say in a very short way.
He's missed a lot of time, is the point, and
that's unfortunate. Their running backs available this week on the
roster JJ Taylor, Daria Gobwalle, and Joe Mixon. I presume
those are the three they will have for this game.
You always have the option of elevating a running back
(02:09:05):
off of the practice squad, and if they did that,
it would be the first time for Jawar Jordan. It
was one of their draft picks and has not played
in a game yet. For the Texans, a wide receiver
group with Nico Collins likely back. I'm hopeful that Tank
Dell's limited participation today due to a back injury and
thus listed on the injury report because of it, is
(02:09:27):
not of great significance. He's coming off of his most
productive game of the season, had several plays that should
remind CJ and everybody else of what he was doing
for the team last year, a couple of long plays.
Speaker 5 (02:09:41):
One a deep route got behind the defense, the.
Speaker 4 (02:09:44):
Other a much shorter reception that he turned into a
long play got some nice blocking on it. Those are
the plays that have really been absent in this Texans
offense throughout much of this year that I think we
all believe should be a part of the offense this year.
But something to keep an eye on with him, And
on the Lions side, Taylor Decker is out as their
(02:10:04):
starting tackle left tackle. He's not missed a game yet
this season, showed up on the injury report yesterday, and
when Dan Campbell talked this morning, he didn't make it
sound like they would have a decision on him, saying
they wanted to see how he was doing over the
next twenty four to forty eight hours. But in fact
they found out a little bit sooner, so they'll have
a little bit different looking lineup on their front. It's
an absolute strength of the team. Doesn't mean they don't
(02:10:25):
have a bunch of strengths. They're a wide receiver group
as they strength the Amon Ross, Saint Brown and that
group along with everybody else. This was a hard to
believe number that showed up in their game notes this week.
There's a couple teams near the top of the NFL
and drops with five and six counted drops so far
this season on the passes thrown to their teammates.
Speaker 5 (02:10:46):
The Lions are number one in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:10:48):
They have one.
Speaker 4 (02:10:49):
It didn't out the one player who has the one
drop on the Lions, and I haven't done the research
to figure out who it was, but that's incredible. And
the connection between Amon Ross, Saint Brown, as evidenced by
his appearance on Our Stone Cold Locks, and Jared Goff,
it's tremendous. That's an impossible matchup. You just kind of
try to limit things. He is very much like you
(02:11:09):
know Stefan Diggs and the routes that he will run
and a lot of underneath stuff and a lot of
quick game stuff. Not likely to just line up and
try to outrun somebody or double move somebody on a
long game. But they have players to do that. One
of them is coming back this week, jameson Williams. Sam
Laporta is a really tough matchup at tight end, even
though he hasn't had any huge games this season and
(02:11:32):
won significant change for the Texans. We haven't mentioned, but
once today now a chance to hear from him, and
it's more uniform than performance because of his performance and
who he is. We spend a little time earlier this
week giving you comments from CJ. Stroud and their offensive
coordinator Bobby Slok on Joe Mixon as in when he talks,
people listen, and from CJ. He's not afraid to call
(02:11:54):
people out. He's called me out, he's called our teammates out,
he's called line it out, he's called coaches out. Well,
those sound like the kind of things that come from
someone who came here to win and knows it. He's
told us that before and it sounds like a captain,
which he was recently named. And I had a chance
to talk to the media a little bit today about
the fact that he is a captain for this Texans team.
Aaron Wilson among those there with us for us listening
(02:12:16):
to what Joe had to say. Joe on how he
got the news that, yeah, man, you're a captain.
Speaker 12 (02:12:21):
I found on a team earlier to day. Earlier, this
money to his highlighted things that you know, he wanted
to see come up after he ended up basically putting
up a whole power of one me basically seeing that
I believe.
Speaker 2 (02:12:40):
Been getting wrong the right thing.
Speaker 12 (02:12:41):
He was doing everything the right way, and you just
want to highlight you and thank you and team captain.
And I was just super surprised, obviously, very gregs ban
appreciate that, you know, the accomplishment.
Speaker 4 (02:12:55):
Very appreciative, humbled by it. He also took to Loader,
translating that was, you know, we're not there. I'm usually
pretty good at as ideal. Yeah, I couldn't make a
lot of that out there.
Speaker 2 (02:13:06):
Well, then one of you just go to Joe's comments
that he gave you.
Speaker 5 (02:13:09):
That are much easier to determine because.
Speaker 4 (02:13:12):
He as usual, went to the X platform honored and
humble to be named captain mid season for the Texans.
Speaker 5 (02:13:18):
It's testament to the hard work we all put in together.
Speaker 4 (02:13:20):
As General Patton said, lead me, follow me, or get
out of my way.
Speaker 5 (02:13:26):
The mission is clear, victory, Let's get it. Did anybody
ask him about the CARDI b tweet? Though? Come on now,
I don't know the answer to that.
Speaker 2 (02:13:36):
It's not every day you get an NFL running back
quoting Paton either.
Speaker 5 (02:13:40):
But we got that today. Yeah, No, I'm I'm proud
of them.
Speaker 4 (02:13:43):
He also commented about your favorite topic this week. One
you are convinced is happening Sunday night, just after kickoff
when the Texans have the ball on offense and number
twelve runs out on the field. Joe Mixon on the
boost they might get if, in fact, Nico Collins returns.
Speaker 12 (02:14:01):
He's been lessing some time, and obviously he's gonna, I
mean work this way in there, and I think that
he's going to be a great addition to doing that
for what we do. And I think that in this
thing is a lot easier for everybody in the offense.
Speaker 5 (02:14:15):
Man now thinks he's a good fit like that he
fits into the offense.
Speaker 2 (02:14:19):
Well, I mean he's played with him before, so yeah.
It look, it's there's a number of things just from
a drawing attention away from whatever else they could focus
on if he wasn't out there, standpoint, And I don't
know what Tank Dell's gonna be in Like, as far
as we know he's got a back injury. If he's
(02:14:39):
out there, okay, he's gonna be one hundred percent, Like
what's he I tend to think if it was anything
more serious, we'd have hurt a whole lot more about it.
Speaker 4 (02:14:45):
I think total pure I'm not even a doctor or speculation.
This is the kind of thing that it was giving
him trouble today, It could give him trouble Saturday, could
give him trouble Sunday, and they'll deal with it as
they see fit.
Speaker 2 (02:14:58):
Or everything could be fine and Alex Bregman slept on
his arm supposedly.
Speaker 4 (02:15:02):
I think that's maybe a little different because it's a
back injury for a football player, only in that there
could be something that set it off. You know, Thursday's
practice is a little more vigorous than others, not saying
it happened there, not saying it happened overnight and in
his sleep. But I would think that it's probably a
game time decision. It probably is something for it to
(02:15:25):
be that. Yeah, I'm a little concerned about it.
Speaker 5 (02:15:27):
Yeah, I don't like to hear that.
Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
So just kind of.
Speaker 4 (02:15:30):
Thinking back through these games with Nico and the fit
that Joe Mixon likes to have with him. You know,
Nico Collins was fantastic in game one. He was fantastic
in all five games that he played. His most productive
game twelve catch game one hundred and fifty one yards
in a score game against Jacksonville here at home. It
probably not coincidentally came in a game where Joe Mixon
(02:15:53):
was unavailable and not playing.
Speaker 5 (02:15:55):
See that's yeah, I mean you're has been.
Speaker 4 (02:15:58):
I don't mean to say that's the only game he's
had a huge game and he can't have one because
Joe's there. I'm not saying that at all, but I
do think that it's not a coincidence had probably happened
in that game. It was also a very sadly close
game with the Jaguars, when one of those where you
didn't feel like it should be.
Speaker 3 (02:16:14):
Was that the very next game after the Chicago game
that he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (02:16:18):
The Minnesota game was the first one after the.
Speaker 5 (02:16:20):
Shots right, okay, and then jackson.
Speaker 4 (02:16:22):
Minnesota totally held him in check. He only had eighty
six yards. Technically I would have called that this worst
game because he already had seventy eight on nine SNAPSAH
against the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (02:16:34):
I just think that more than anybody of the big names,
if you will, on offense, he is the one that
can just even exceed obliterate expectations. So obliterate expectations. You
were aware of what Jamar Chase did last night, right,
there's not much that he didn't do two hundred plus.
Speaker 4 (02:16:51):
He was awesome. He is now second in the NFL
in yards per game. He's averaging ninety eight point one
receiving your yards per game. It's barely ahead of Justin Jefferson,
and there's a couple of receivers that are getting eighty plus.
And then there's Nico Collins at one hundred and thirteen
point four yards per game, way ahead of everybody. Granity's
miss time, but he has been that good. And that
(02:17:16):
number dips because he only played nine snaps in a game.
That's his worst receiving total of the season because he
only managed seventy eight yards on nine snaps.
Speaker 5 (02:17:26):
Was the Lion just playing better back then? They had
an opportunity.
Speaker 4 (02:17:29):
Think about the play we're talking about, seven step drop
tick tick tick gone. CJ had all freaking day to
throw that pass against the Bills and he did.
Speaker 2 (02:17:41):
You know, the Lions are looking at that as they
head into this matchup.
Speaker 5 (02:17:44):
On Sunday.
Speaker 3 (02:17:47):
The eighteen, on Sports Talk seven ninety, talk.
Speaker 2 (02:17:52):
About your testosterone level and the only place to find
out what it is, what you can do about it
if it's not where it needs to be should be
men Clinic. There's a lot of companies out there that
say they're the best, but only Men's Tea Clinic is
celebrating its tenth anniversary because they've been around longer than
all of them. And the reason for that is they
are the best. And not only that, they've got your
(02:18:14):
performance injections. So when it comes to all right, you
found out that you have low testosterone, you're gonna do
something about it. You've got the testosterone therapy individualized plans
set in place at one of the five Houston area locations. Well,
now they can boost that performance with those injections like
the B twelve, like the G shot, the LiPo amino.
(02:18:35):
Those are the ones I get along with the testosterone
each and every week. It get me through the next
seven days in the heights where I go Cypress Paarland,
Pasadena and Spring Visit Men's TA Clinic dot com.
Speaker 5 (02:18:47):
That's Men's t Clinic dot com.
Speaker 3 (02:18:50):
Adam Clinton at Adam weck for it. The eight team.
Speaker 5 (02:19:03):
People are funny. It is the eight Team.
Speaker 2 (02:19:05):
Sports Talk seven ninety winding down the show winding down
another week here on Sports Talk seven ninety and Space
City Home Network WEX and AC with you.
Speaker 3 (02:19:15):
We take you up till six o'clock.
Speaker 2 (02:19:17):
Rockets coverage against the Oklahoma City Thunder getting underway at
that point. Before you know it, they'll be tipping it
off from the Heartland of America.
Speaker 5 (02:19:27):
That's what they call it up there, Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
They're a really good basketball team, and shay Gilles Alexander
really really scares me. He goes off every single time.
But the Rockets seem to play them very well no
matter what. Each time they played last year, it was
like an epic battle. I don't even know if I'm sure.
There was probably one blowout, but I feel like they
were all just back and forth, nip and tuck, some
(02:19:51):
higher scoring than others, but always entertaining when those two
teams get together, and so obviously looking forward to that tonight,
and it's going to be entertaining. I think, especially in
light of Nico Collins' non official return, that it will
be much more entertaining than it would have been. Like
think if Nico Collins had played the Jets game, that
would have been different. It just would have I don't
(02:20:12):
know if the Texans would have won, but I like
their chances a lot better even with everything else going
the way it did. That's what I mean when I
say you got to account for him on the field,
I mean if that means you're not able to bring
an extra defender over to spy ONTG. I don't know, like,
but I just feel like when Nico Collins is on
the field, even with everything they're going through with the
(02:20:35):
lack of protection, because you mentioned it, he did have
all day to throw on that play. But maybe there's
a reason for that more than just the line was
playing better at that time of the season. I don't
know if Nico Collins can buy proxy make that offensive
line look or block better and pass protection, but I'm
(02:20:56):
really looking forward to finding out.
Speaker 5 (02:20:57):
Yeah, that's on them.
Speaker 4 (02:20:58):
Those things help a little bit and you maybe get
something out of a play that with somebody else out
there you either can't run or you can't succeed with
as much. Maybe it's a five yard game instead of
a fifteen yard things like that. But he's done play
offensive line. He's not a head coach, or he's not
an assistant coach, or he's not the offensive line coach
or the OC. It's as much on them as it
is on those five players that are gonna get the
(02:21:19):
start at the offensive line positions they cannot.
Speaker 2 (02:21:22):
I've said it. I feel like I've said it so much.
I don't want to hear it anymore.
Speaker 4 (02:21:26):
You can't run the offense like you're running it until
they show you otherwise. They've been trying to prove to
themselves that they can't do it, and in doing so,
they've hurt themselves. Luckily, they haven't hurt the quarterback, and
I don't think it had anything to do with Kenny
Green's injury, being literal about it, but they're making it
easier for teams to defend them. They're making it easier
for teams to get after the quarterback. All they have
(02:21:48):
to do is throw something exotic at them. All they
have to do is overpower them. You literally anything you
would tell a defensive lineman. If you're the D line coach,
you're the DC saying this is gonna work. Watch, Hey,
do this, It's gonna work. Watch And it does, and
it has for three straight weeks, and they were not
one of the better offensive lines in the five games
prior to that, the six weeks prior to that.
Speaker 5 (02:22:06):
This is an ongoing issue.
Speaker 4 (02:22:08):
It's just been highlighted even more so over the last
three games. I don't think it's really coincidental to or
tied to Nico's absence. It's not exact, for one thing,
but I just don't really feel like you put a
wide receiver out there and your offensive line starts getting stronger, well,
starts recognizing twists and games better, starts passing guys off better.
(02:22:31):
One literally has nothing to do with the other. The
mistakes that they're making, and the physical mistakes that are
I don't know how.
Speaker 5 (02:22:38):
You fix them.
Speaker 4 (02:22:39):
If you're physically getting run over, if you're not technique
wise using whatever strength that you have to prevent the
pocket collapse constantly up the middle pass rush.
Speaker 5 (02:22:52):
How does Nico Collins impact that at all? He doesn't.
I also, I'm sure you saw this article that what
was it that wrote this on it? This was oh yeah,
this was djbmmy.
Speaker 2 (02:23:05):
The difference between and not just the offense, both sides
of the ball in the first and second halves. And
you know, last week was a good example of that.
They were up seven to nothing, so it's not like
they were lighting the world on fire offensively, but I
also hadn't allowed any points and then the second half
was just like an absolute disaster for both sides.
Speaker 5 (02:23:22):
But it's a it's a seasonal thing.
Speaker 4 (02:23:25):
Thirty one point advantage in the first half, thirty point
disadvantage in the second half.
Speaker 2 (02:23:30):
Yeah, and it's they're averaging nine points in the red
zone in the second half compared to thirteen in the
first half.
Speaker 4 (02:23:40):
Their red zone efficiency post halftime adjustments has been poor.
Speaker 2 (02:23:44):
It's just it goes everything that you look at in
that article goes against logic because that's when you're supposed
to make adjustments.
Speaker 5 (02:23:50):
Well that there's another team.
Speaker 2 (02:23:52):
No, I know, and they do too, but like, I
don't know, I just feel like probably the theme of
this season, in light of everything with the offensive line,
I get that. I just feel like I find myself
expecting more from a team that has CJ.
Speaker 3 (02:24:06):
Stroud at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (02:24:08):
And I know that sounds overly simplistic and it doesn't
account for the offensive line because that's the most important
thing for a quarterback to be successful, in addition to
having weapons.
Speaker 5 (02:24:17):
But he's got all the weapons. One of them's hurt.
Speaker 3 (02:24:19):
He still has weapons.
Speaker 4 (02:24:20):
Yeah, there are offensive issues in yards and success and
points first half to second half. As DJ points out,
it's a really good article. If you missed it earlier
this week, check it out. He covers the Texans for ESPN.
They're very pronounced. Some of their defensive numbers are even
more pronounced, and he talked about that. Yes, I'll read
(02:24:41):
from the article. Yeah, eight point seven points per game
allowed by the Texans defense in the first half. That
seventh ranked seventh in the NFL. That is elite, that
is top top shelf. It goes to thirteen point six
points in the second half, five more points essentially, that's
twenty seventh in the NFL.
Speaker 5 (02:24:58):
That's losing football.
Speaker 2 (02:25:00):
Well, and going back to the red zone, they're top
ten in the first half, they're bottom two in the
second half in the red zone, so they can get there.
Speaker 5 (02:25:08):
Hey, wec's first time, long time.
Speaker 4 (02:25:10):
Can you guys tell me the ways that the Texans
needs aren't as good in the second half as the
first half.
Speaker 5 (02:25:15):
I'll hang up and listen. I mean, it's it's amazing,
but you.
Speaker 2 (02:25:18):
Know, teams go through this all the time where they're like, ah,
we're slow starters and then we come on in the
second half.
Speaker 5 (02:25:23):
That's the exact opposite of the Texans.
Speaker 4 (02:25:25):
And what again, the math ain't math, and they're possessing
the ball so much more than their opponents, Right, it's
not just that their first and league. Take the actual math.
You have the ball for thirty three minutes a game, well,
that means the other team's offense has the ball for
twenty seven minutes a game. The play counts do match
up with that. The Texans offense has run way more plays,
(02:25:48):
but that means the Texans defense is running way fewer
plays each and every week.
Speaker 5 (02:25:55):
That should keep.
Speaker 4 (02:25:55):
Them fresh, sure, that should allow them to play at
this elite level for longer periods of time. You would
think that's supposed to go hand in hand with your
ability defensively to keep it up to continue playing at
that high level because they're not fourteen to fifteen play drives.
I just was looking at another post unrelated to this,
(02:26:16):
but the Texans are in the top three in most
drives defensively, most drives of two minutes are less, meaning
it's probably a three and out where it's just a
very short drive.
Speaker 3 (02:26:27):
Well, you get to go to the.
Speaker 4 (02:26:27):
Bench and quote unquote rest and get ready for the
next series. That should help you over the course of
a game, which I think it does. But these numbers
don't show it.
Speaker 5 (02:26:37):
Are you ready for something else?
Speaker 2 (02:26:38):
That surprised me A that it was said to begin
with because and then b that CJ's the one that
said it.
Speaker 5 (02:26:46):
What did cjsay? Now? The Voltemore material.
Speaker 2 (02:26:49):
Light them up at the very tail end of this article,
and this is also pertinent in light of the fact
they're playing at home. By the way, he says an
away game, I feel like we're a little dead in
the second half because we don't have the crowd with us.
I believe that we have to honestly keep the swag,
keep the juice on the sideline. We have to be
more pumped up. Everybody has to stand up and root
(02:27:11):
for each other and celebrate. That's not something I would
expect CJ. Stroud to say. It's there's nothing wrong with it, It's
just accurate. I don't know the performance is to that. Yeah,
but because of the crowd, isn't well that What are
the reasons why? Maybe that's why you wouldn't expect him
to hear him saying how many times have you heard
(02:27:31):
a good quo, a killer like him self described talk
about loving to go into a road environment and shut
those crowds up and all that kind of stuff. I mean,
Tom Brady loved it, he talked about it. That's just
a little surprising to me that he would bring that up.
And that's on you, guys, Houston. If you're going on
Sunday when the second half starts, maybe be in your seats.
(02:27:55):
I don't know, like apparently it matters that much if
CJ's going out of his way to say.
Speaker 4 (02:28:00):
I do think the numbers kind of know. They definitely
back him up. The reasons why we can certainly debate
their road performances have been poor. Their road second half
performances definitely fit into that. You go back to the
beginning of the season. They did open the road open
this season on the road at the Indianapolis Colts. They
were really good in the second half offensively, and they
(02:28:22):
had to be in order to win the game. Scored
two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, scored seventeen of their
twenty nine points in the second half, and their last
drive was five minutes long and they didn't score any
points on it because they were able to run the
clock out. They were really really successful there. The only
other game they've had success in the second half is
one i'd kind of throw out because it was the
Patriots game. I don't want to throw it out because
(02:28:42):
it was on the road and you needed those points
because you let the Patriots get a little momentum, and
they were great in the second half. They scored twenty
seven points of their forty one after halftime. They haven't
scored a touchdown on the road since then. They've scored
a bunch of field goals, but that's it that the
Patriots game was obviously well within reach, but they didn't
(02:29:03):
score any touchdowns in the second half. Jets game was
well within reach, but they didn't score any touchdowns in
the second half.
Speaker 5 (02:29:10):
That's crazy to think about.
Speaker 2 (02:29:11):
Again, going back to what I said originally, a team
that has CJ straded quarterback should just they should expect more.
We should expect more of them. He should expect more
of himself. Anything else I've missed any other.
Speaker 4 (02:29:23):
I mean, if you want to see, if there's time
for you to head on over to the facility and
get an even bigger mirror for him to put in
front of his locker, just say it's on him.
Speaker 2 (02:29:30):
Why don't you drop that on him? I love look
at the mirror CJ. Come on, man, it's not the fans,
it's not the ad line, it's not missing Nico.
Speaker 5 (02:29:37):
It's not your new captain, Joe Mixon.
Speaker 3 (02:29:39):
It's you.
Speaker 5 (02:29:40):

Time for a case you missed it here five thirty.
Try to crank that out for each and every day
here on the show. Some items we've not yet gotten
to or are ones that deserve more time. Gave you
the update on the Texans and Lines injury situations just
a few minutes ago. I will say I am expecting
Nico Collins return, and the logistics behind that possibility are
(02:30:25):
in place. We'll find out a little bit more over
the weekend. Taylor Decker of the Lions is out and
listen closely to the remainder of In case you missed it,
as you always would, We've got tickets to give away
to the Big College Hoops doubleheader over at Toyota Center
this weekend. It is tomorrow, and we have several pairs
of tickets to give away. It's the Battleground. Two K

Auburn Tigers, the Rice Ales against the Florida State Seminoles.
Some tidbit of information divulged here over the next few
minutes will be the answer to the question we ask
you when we get back next segment.
Speaker 5 (02:31:00):
What do we have today?
Speaker 3 (02:31:01):
Dan?
Speaker 8 (02:31:01):
All right, So we are ten games into the coaching
tenure of JJ Reddick with the Los Angeles Lakers. This
happened a couple of nights ago. They lost to the
Grizzlies one fourteen. They went one in five, one in four,
excuse me, on their five game road trip. So, like
I said, we're ten games in and we already have
the very pompous JJ Reddick walking off of a postgame
(02:31:24):
press conference.
Speaker 13 (02:31:25):
JJ, you're talking a lot about two out of the
three two or three guys getting them to put in
the effort. Talked a lot about wanting to play hard
and Lebron being the guy that played hard in tonight's game.
How do you address that with the team. What's your
philosophy for approaching.
Speaker 3 (02:31:38):
I just did. I'm so glad you've accomplished so much, JJ,
you're awesome?
Speaker 2 (02:31:48):
Did I mean, come on, dude, here's the thing. You
can't do that, and you can't of course you can't. No,
you can't do that, and you can't do what he
did in his chair the other night when some player
a shot where he I think it was Dangelo Russell.
It's definitely the Angelo Russell where he started like convulsing
his chair up and down like a little kid would do.
(02:32:09):
I mean, that's your how many times I had a
conversation with aj Hinch one time before everything happened, and
he was talking about how it's ineffective if he goes
in the clubhouse and he's yelling all the time at
players because eventually they're gonna tune you out.
Speaker 5 (02:32:23):
That's Tom Thibodeau to a t. He's pretty gruff.
Speaker 2 (02:32:27):
Yeah, like you're gonna balance, you're gonna wear out.
Speaker 5 (02:32:30):
You're welcome. Like this is his first year.
Speaker 2 (02:32:33):
He's got two All Stars on his team, one of
the all time greats.
Speaker 3 (02:32:37):
Most nights, yeah, three.
Speaker 4 (02:32:40):
Of their nights, he's only had one, and he was
brought in because those very two same All Stars couldn't
get it done last year with admittedly not a great
cast of characters around them, but there's still two of
the best players in the league, So it's on you,
and that's just probably not the best way to go
about it. I I hear what you're saying, especially for
(02:33:00):
his lack of experience as a head coach, and lack
of experience at all as a coach, not an assistant coach.
He wasn't part of the staff anywhere else. This is
new territory. He's extremely familiar with how a team runs
and how you held practice and how coaches talked to players.
Perfectly fine with all that and any others. There will
(02:33:21):
be many more in the future that go from no
experience to running the whole team. The things he's doing
may seem a little bit off for a coach. I
don't think they'll have any impact on the lack of
success or success that they have. There's a bunch of
other coaches that keep getting jobs or have long held jobs,
and man, they just don't They don't know what they're
doing either, and it shows year after year after year
(02:33:42):
and year a job after job after job they get
that won't name names here. I think JJ Reddick's probably
a pretty good basketball coach. And communicator, and he only
has to do one thing. It's the same thing every
coach who's been there since Lebron got there got there.
As long as he's fine with how you do things,
you're fine. It's not gonna impact whether you win or not.
(02:34:05):
And Lebron, I don't even think it cares if it's
what you do to win or not.
Speaker 5 (02:34:10):
They're going absolutely nowhere.
Speaker 4 (02:34:11):
If Anthony Davis is beginning another season where he struggles
to stay on the court and that's the star that
they've missed for three of those games, they might not
be going anywhere even with him, because they're I don't
I wouldn't say they're hamstruing. There's nothing that they have
done to make the rest of their roster good enough.
They've got two really good players, like every other team
in the West, and they don't have enough good players
(02:34:34):
around them.
Speaker 2 (02:34:34):
Reason number five, three hundred and sixty eight that Lebron
is never gonna be in the same category as Michael Jordan.
Michael was like, I'm not playing for another head coach,
and if you fire him, I'm out. Lebron is like,
get me a new one, because the last ten have
worn out their welcome who.
Speaker 4 (02:34:52):
You're talking about, Philip Philip. Okay, I know it's gonna
take a little time. Dan, you feel free to assist here.
I will hold who's the best coach that Lebron has
played for among the litany of coaches he's gotten fired.
Speaker 2 (02:35:07):
It's way way worse than Phil Jackson. It's got to
be what's his face in Miami? No, it's Spolstra, no question. Yeah, okay,
that's a very easy answer.
Speaker 3 (02:35:15):
I just didn't remember his name.
Speaker 5 (02:35:17):
But yeah, and what did he do to Spolstra try
to get him fired?
Speaker 3 (02:35:20):
He did? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:35:21):
Is that accurate? Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (02:35:23):
He did.
Speaker 5 (02:35:23):
Yes, I'm not even I'm not your there's no sart
know about this.
Speaker 4 (02:35:27):
He tried to get Eric spos basically a lifetime contract
there because he's so awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:35:32):
He went and tried to get him acted,
