Speaker 1 (00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Team
who series? Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
A What's Up Houston, Texas?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It is a Tuesday edition of the A Team Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
He's wex I'm Ac.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
We've got you for the next three hours before we
give way to Rockets basketball coverage.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
What what? Nothing? That's not incorrect. We start coverage at
five o'clock today. Awesome. That's why I said three hours tremendous.
Why did you make the face? I don't know, man,
We gotta wean you off of this. We gotta ease
you in, just continue.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
It's only January seventh. Man, you gotta pace yourself. You're
gonna burn out fast like me. Anyway, we got you
until five o'clock and then wex will have you until
five thirty, and then I'll have you at five thirty
up till six o'clock, and then they'll tip off in
Washington and beat the brains out of the Washington Wizards.
I was doing a little research last night for the pregame,

(01:10):
and I just could not believe exactly how bad the
Washington Wizards are. It's absolutely incredible how they've managed to
win six games, but they have not against the Rockets.
They played them on their opening night. It was the
second game of the season for Houston and the Rockets
beat them up. Then hoping to do so again tonight,
and then I guess hoping to get out of town

(01:31):
safely since there's weather all over the country that's affecting things,
not here in Houston, but.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
That'll be later on.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
We will obviously continue discussing what happened over the weekend,
but more so looking forward to what could happen this weekend.
There are already pundits out there giving the Texans probably
less of a chance than even I did yesterday. Coming
in in the first segment, Rex Ryan went so far
as to call it a bye week for the Chargers.
That seems a little strong, that seems a little extreme.

(01:59):
But we'll continue to discuss getting you ready for that
thing as that'll kick off at three point thirty. Of course,
on Saturday, we'll be over there in the stadium. It'll
be the first time since last year's playoff game that
I've been over there at the stadium to take in
a Texans football game. And I just keep going back
to the fact, and we're gonna hear from Demiico Ryans
about this. Something he said yesterday that it's just last

(02:23):
year means absolutely nothing as it pertains to this season,
even though a lot of the principals involved the same,
namely the head coach and the quarterback. Another ten win season,
another division championship. But I just can't get over the
fact that it could not feel more different, and it's
not wex to me. It's not just that they were
the young upstart. Maybe you call them a surprise team

(02:47):
last year. You know something we've seen this year from
the Commanders and maybe the Broncos to an extent in
the AFC. That's kind of how you felt as a
Texans fan. But something you said yesterday, and we talked
about it all sorts of times. In last season's campaign,
you always felt like you had a chance with CJ.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Stroud.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
And while I don't think the reason you don't feel
like they have a chance necessarily is explicitly because of CJ. Stroud,
I just never thought we would be, for example, having
the conversation we did yesterday, keep an eye on CJ.
Stroud in year three so that you don't necessarily make
the mistake that some other teams, even within the division
have made and invest in a guy who's not the guy.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I don't think that's gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
That's more of a timing issue. I mean next year.
He's only done with year three. You don't have to
you don't have to extend him. Then you don't even
have to extend him after year four, so they have
more time to make their decision. Keeping an eye on
him in year three is more about did we do
anything or will we be the next AFC South team
to make a major change now that everybody else has
done it in the last three days.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh yeah, there's more since we were last on the
air as you called it this morning in a text message,
that Titans were tightening.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
And he doesn't mean getting less space. He doesn't mean puckering. No,
though that's what their managing partner continues to do with
every single.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
About it, not even once a year, but more than that.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
To have changed head coaches as often as they have,
to have changed the leadership from a personnel side as
often as they have recently, it's a sign of a
rudderless ship, and it is the ship that is guiding
itself towards the number one pick in the draft. Ran
Carthon got thirty four whole games two NFL seasons to
try to fix what was wrong with the Titans. You know,

(04:38):
the last two years of Mike Gravel were losing seasons.
The last of those two years coincided with the first
of the two years of ran Carthon's run, the second
of Ram's run, the first of Callahan's run. Even worse.
They won three games. They have the number one overall pick.
And now you're in a situation where I don't think
anybody outside the organization knows who really is in charge

(04:59):
over there in terms of the football and inside the organization,
it seems equally confusing. That means you're going nowhere. That
is phenomenal for the Texans. Jaguars have a long list
of candidates that they announced they planned to interview. Jets
are continuing to finish with interviews just so they can

(05:19):
get to the next twelve that they have lined up,
including Rex Ryan, who has completed his interview today, the
third coach to do so.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
And we've mentioned some of the other moves.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
One of the moves made inside this division since we
last spoke was Gus Bradley was told that, hey man,
if it wasn't for your terrible defense, we might have
won this division.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
This year.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
The Colts told their DC Gus Bradley to get lost.
He was a carryover from the previous staff. So we
worked two years under Shane Steichen and was on the
team prior to that. Probably have bigger problems just me.
I mean, this is an outsider looking in. Probably have
more things to concern themselves with. So those are the

(05:59):
other three teams in this division. Far be it for
me to pretend the Texans don't have problems, because they
have one problem that is so alarmingly large. They aren't
expected to win this weekend. Vegas doesn't expect them to win.
And we're gonna put out a request to you guys today.
Everybody listening, Everybody on the iHeartRadio app, everybody that will

(06:19):
tune into the simulcast today beginning at three, just go
ahead and help us out here. If you see it,
if you read it, send it our way. Somebody who
predicts a Texans loss, I guess if you want to
say predicts the Chargers win, that's fine too. Either one
predicts a Chargers win, calls it a bye week, says

(06:42):
they have no chance.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I want to see it.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
I want to hear about it now on the outside
chance you want to hit us up at Adam Jay
Wexler at Sports Talk seven ninety, at Adam Clinton at
yelling at you, Dan Matthews hou in all caps, feel
free to also indicate if somebody is predicting the woebegone
going nowhere, terrible offensive line have no chance, Regress quarterback

(07:07):
Texans to win the game at three thirty on Saturday.
I see a lot of it. You see a lot
of it. I don't want to miss any of it.
So that's what the request is for. You see it,
you read it, send it our way so we can
add it to the tally.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
You mentioned.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Rex Ryan in his current role he's NFL analyst on television.
He thinks it is essentially a bye week for the Chargers,
who arrive in the postseason playing some very very good
football provided they don't play the Kansas City Chiefs. Most
of their season has been pretty awesome. They're eleven and
four against the rest of the league. They lost both
of their games to them. Eleven and four sounds pretty

(07:44):
good provided you're not playing the defending champion, and I
think that's accurate to how they've played. And you look
at the rest of the postseason. A bunch of people
put some numbers together to help back.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Up the obvious.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
I didn't need the numbers, but I'm glad to use
them today. There's fourteen teams in the player and there's
pretty much a consensus out there, even though a handful
of them are at ten and seven. The ten and
seven Steelers and the ten and seven Texans widely regarded
as the two worst performing teams that have arrived in
the postseason for very different reasons. The quarter Okay, yeah,

(08:19):
what are the different reasons?

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Well, the biggest ones the quarterback play, right, I mean.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Yeah, CJ stroud season could arguably be discussed as worse
than Russell Wilson's.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
What else, Well, I feel like you have to start just.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Let that go now the statistics will actually back me up. Yeah,
but there's not a person walking the earth whose name
isn't that of Russell Wilson's wife that would choose Russell
over CJ.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
How about?

Speaker 5 (08:44):
But the numbers are, that's how unfortunate this season's CJ
Stroud quarterback numbers happened to be.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
He didn't even start the season for them.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Are you forgetting well he was hurt, Yeah, I know,
but if he wouldn't have been hurt in camp because
they won four out of six games with justin fields
and they not get to Russell Wilson fast enough, right,
And then they won a bunch of games and they
got out to a ten to three season, and then
they played playoff teams and they lost, lost, lost, and
lost their way into the postseason.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, they backed in.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Now, No, they didn't back in because one of those
ten wins is against Baltimore. You know, they did have
some nice wins earlier in the year. But they're they're
clearly playing their worst football, even with an upticking competition.
There's really no excuse for it. They're playing bad football.
They're not competing with these teams that oh my god,
the last three minutes got us. Oh they kicked a
field well late, Oh, we made a mistake. They're not
playing good sixty minutes worth of football. If not for

(09:35):
the Texans embarrassment on Christmas Day, you know, their performance
against the Chiefs were probably looked at as such. Other
game against the Eagles, there other game against the Ravens,
which they lost and obviously finishing the season. Cincinnati had
something to play for, but they were just in search
of their ninth win and a season that wasn't yet
over wasn't over until Sunday they lost to a non

(09:57):
playoff team playing for something.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
In Joe Borrow.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
They if there can be a debate, I love it
because I'm here for it.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
We got four hours with you a little less today.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
As Ac pointed out, They're just that's why it's so overwhelming.
Nobody believes in the two teams playing their worst football
at the wrong time.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Well, yeah, because that and that can go for I mean,
how many times has the World Series winner been a
team that might have even been a wild card and
just got hot at the right time. I know it's
different sports, but same the same principle applies.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
It does, except you can't just say, well, he didn't
have a very good game.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Let's just throw the next guy, like you're right, it's
one and done. Well, it's not only is it one
and done.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
After you throw your ace in game one, after you
throw CJ. Stroud in Game one but lose, well, you
can't turn to well, you can turn to the next
guy in game two, David Mills starting games out there.
I mean, that's where the real difference is. You could
throw your ace in baseball in a three, five or
seven game series and lose and still actually have a chance.

(11:05):
But if your ace like hockey's probably the best example.
When you talk about a hot team, it's a hot goaltender.
When a goaltender standing on his head, any team can
win eight beat ones. You know, teams that had terrible
regular seasons because the goalie just didn't have that. He
just all of a sudden figured it out or got
in his zone or as they say, stood on his head,
and you could just roll through this postseason. I think

(11:27):
it's a little bit more difficult to do in the
NFL because so much is different week to week, whether
it's location or certainly you know, the defensive style, the
defensive scheme, your health, you know, quarterback being in the zone.
You know, we've seen some awesome quarterbacks win Super Bowls.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Aaron Rodgers has won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (11:44):
Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees are basically the best
quarterbacks that have ever played. And I wouldn't probably categorize
any run that immediately sticks out to me where they
won three straight postseason games the Super Bowl included.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
And won it all.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
But I would immediately think of awful Joe Flacco and
terrible Eli Manning. Eli did it twice. Yeah, and they
won four games in both instances. And Joe Flacco did
the same thing. He did get hot, He stopped making mistakes,
he only threw touchdown passes, and you know the miracles
that the Giants needed in both of their runs, they

(12:19):
just kept happening. That to me strikes me as a
team getting hot because their quarterback all of a sudden
played out of his mind. The reverse happens all the time.
Lamar Jackson wins an MVP and doesn't win a playoff game.
Josh Allen has an unbelievable see any pick any quarterback.
I don't mean to pick on those two, but it
can happen to it. I mean, Tom Brady and Peyton

(12:41):
Manning lost their opening playoff.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Games since the mid nineties.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Well, yesterday was a nice little reminder, historical reminder. You
see Mike Holmgren chomping on his gum on the sidelines
as Seattle Seahawks head coach, knowing and I don't know
what we're gonna do with these final few seconds here.
After Martine Gramatica kicks this go ahead field goal and
we're down twenty three twenty one.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
We're gonna advance. Oh wait, he did Did he just
drop that? He snapped to Romo. Oh, he dropped the ball,
and he's gonna pick it up, but he's gonna run it. No,
he's not.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
It was, you know, just the anniversary of yesterday. How
nothing is certain until it's certain. When it comes to
the kicking game.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
It's so good, it's so good, especially when it happens
to them. All Right, we dropped the ball, Jim, he
Didna he did on the field and look up at
the booth. But then he picked it up and I
thought I could run it. In June, your coworkers, this
got from behind me. He caught me.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Jim, gosh, I think at that part in my hands
on my helmet, Jim. He was still dating what's her face?
The country singer? Or was that Jessica Simpson a country singer? Yeah,
Carrie underwould break your head light for cheating on it.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
So Tony Romo was with his wife who's currently with
uh huh with Jessica Simpson.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
He got a carry Underwood. He's got a type. If
you ever check out these three.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
I need some more help. You guys know what that
type is. I don't know if you can figure it
out from the clues he's just given and the females
and what they look like. Give us a call seven
more three to two, one two five, seven ninety What
is Tony Romo's type?

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Jim let us know.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (14:18):
We now returned to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexworth.

Speaker 7 (14:21):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Eighteen.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
We're rolling along here on Sports Talk seven ninety. By
the way, since it's on the screen in here, I
I've got a running gag with Matt Ross that I
sort of you're aware of, but you're not really a
part of it.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
Yeah, he's a bum, I got it.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
There. You go, Kobe White dunking on you in a
loss to the Bulls. You can save all of your
oh my gosh, the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
He's got more blocks than Check, He's got more points
than Jordan. I don't want your stats about him. I
don't care about Victor wimbin Yama until he's facing the
Rockets in a playoff series that's more than just a
first round matchup. I don't care what he puts in
this year. I don't want I don't care about his stats.
As a matter of fact, I don't want to hear

(15:15):
from you until they're like several games above five hundred,
because it doesn't impress me. A bunch of guys putting
up stats on loser to five hundred teams does not
impress me. And when you get dunked on by Kobe White,
it really doesn't impress me, especially when you lose to
the freaking ass bulls.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
I'm done, perfect no reason for me to even respond.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
It's just hilarious because I'll send something like that to
them because they send stuff like this to me and
they know they know how to.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Get my goat.

Speaker 5 (15:45):
They sent you the video of Kobe White jumping up
and reaching the rim and Victor eventually got over there
and he was already passed him, but he's in the shot,
so it's a good poster.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Pick stop it. Kobe went down the lane from the
top of the key, knew he.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Was near him, got there late, like he's the dreaking
alien everybody wants me to believe he is.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
He should have gotten there because he's so awesome at
everything else he does. Gotten there. Stop it, man, Gosh,
the hype. It's one basket, no good. You lost to
the Bulls, one player, you lost to the Bulls, the.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Team of the number one pick one year ago in
the NBA at five hundred one year later.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
But he sucks, I mean, is honestly, I mean, just
a realist.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Exactly, So am I and I don't think he's the
second coming of Christ.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
And that's okay. Like I people don't want to hear
the levels, No, but there are levels, and people need
to touch grass on this, Like I'm it's getting out
of hand. I'm I get it.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
You want to have this narrative, you want to have
the clicks, you want to do this, that and the other.
What I'm disappointed in is that people that I thought
had actual basketball knowledge that we work with, and I
know they're doing it on purpose because this is what
people do when they know how I am.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
But it's it's just it's because he plays for the Spurs.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
It's because the Rockets had a crap season and then
once again, the Spurs manage to get the number one
pick and pick a big man when the Rockets clearly
had earned that just as much as anybody.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
And and by the way, the Spurs with all their
winning and then all Greg Popovich is the greatest front
off his mind and coach we've ever seen this side
of Phil Jackson and Red Arba. They mismanaged their way
into this. The Rockets had a fat guy put his
fat suit on and blow up the franchise. That wasn't
their fault. They mismanaged it horribly. They mismanaged what letting
a player run the team. Yeah, that's never happened in

(17:38):
the history of the NBA. The difference being, well, the difference.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
Being they were like as close they were a hamstring
away from the NBA finals.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Yeah they did. Then that happened, right, that's not the
that's not franchise has three more championships under the same management.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Yeah, which they drafted well and accumulated the talent to
do that. After they stole the number one pick from
the Celtics that year with a healthy David Robinson sitting
on the bench for like eighty games.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Yeah, Rockets have the number one.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
So innovative that the Spurs were able to arrest that
healthy guy.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
I think people can hear what you're saying pretty clearly. Well,
Ross and Matt don't, Yes, they do.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
No, you let them go. Gee, you can't help it,
and you stop is the second coming of Michael Jordan.
He's not He's a highly skilled big man.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Why don't you just stop right there? I can't, literally,
I can't stop. I know that you don't know everybody
on the face of the other so and I don't either.
But there is not even one person, not even one
that thinks that there's not one person I disagree with you.
Nobody thinks that a bunch of people in San Antonio
do no way. Yes, even the people that Charles Barkley
talks about in San Antonio, the fat women, think that

(18:46):
this player is going to be widely regarded as the
best player to ever play in the NBA. I think
that I hear what he's going to be A generational talent,
a Lebron like. We can follow this guy for the
next ten years and he'll carry our league if the
team that he's on can play to that level of
reaching the finals. And for all the negativity around Lebron

(19:08):
for whatever reasons, at least in this debate.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
I mean his team went to the final. You know,
they dominated the East for eight years.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
The crappy East.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
Yes, the crappy East. I acknowledge it wasn't at its height,
but after he joined up with two other superstars, nobody,
that's nobody else did it. Nobody else did it, and
that's not accurate. He played with them the whole time.
He won eight straight Easts with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
No, you're right, I'll give him credit for taking Booby
gibbson too the finals and getting swept by Ironically.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
Again, Victor is already one of the twenty best players
in the league. He plays on a team that's pretty
still under talented. But they chose this path, I think,
to not have him go through a bunch of losing
seasons when they can't play Harrison Barnes anymore because he's
too old, and when they can't play Chris Paul anymore
because he's too old, which is rapidly approaching, and less

(19:58):
Stephen Castle, and they've bumped.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
It back to the Castle. I thought you said, Vassal.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Devin Vessel, Right, Stephen Castle is their point guard of
the future. And they actually might have gotten that pick right.
I'm not sure what they're waiting for, but I think
it's because they're trying to win now and not have
losing seasons if they don't get any other picks right.
And they spent pretty much every year prior to the
Victor pick getting it incredibly wrong. Vessell's the only other
player they picked that was that's basically even there. It

(20:27):
was first round pick after first round pick after first
round pick, that was awful.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
I'm just patiently waiting for the next narrative because I've
got it for you. Well, they're going to trade for
Daron Fox because they've got all this young.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
Talented I mean, Victor's really really good.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
He's two years into the league, he's one hundred plus
games in the league, and he's one of the twenty
best players.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I get.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
So the graphic that came the anger about him is unnecessitating.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
No, it's not unnecessary.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
When the and I know you know the graphic I'm
talking about, I just for the life and we can't
remember what entity put it out there, but it might
have been the on ESPN, one of those accounts that
put up the graphic of all of these like generational players,
Hall of Fame players that whatever given statistic, he's better

(21:13):
than through his first however many games he's played. I
don't know if it's how many games has he played?

Speaker 2 (21:19):
What year? Is this too?

Speaker 8 (21:21):
Year?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (21:22):
There was.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I think it was probably through his first hundred games
was probably the graphic just off the top of my head.
You know, more threes than Steph, more block shots than Shack.
I mean, they just cherry picked what looked good on
this graph. And if that's fine, I get it. It's
for clicks, but don't expect me to a take it
seriously and b don't expect it to not whip up

(21:45):
a bunch of morons who think. My biggest thing with
him is that I don't think he's gonna stay healthy.
And I've got reason to believe that. I've got I've
got history on my side right here in Houston, by
the way, with not one but two athletes that were
around his size, one of them was much bigger. But honestly,
I forget YAO mean, this guy's Ralph Sampson. The way

(22:07):
he's built it, and it's you know that, And for that,
from that standpoint, he'll probably last longer because Ralph did.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
I believe his career was longer than.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
He played it for a while, but very early in
his career he wasn't the same player because of injuries.
He didn't immediately leave the league, but he couldn't play
the way he used.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
And Ralph was not camped down on the three point
line taking thirty six footers from the logo like Wimby's doing.

Speaker 5 (22:32):
Well, he made that one one of them.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Well.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
He also was playing in San Antonio where their logo
is enormous, So I sure, I'll call it a logo.
And if it's a retro ni you know me and semantics,
I can't have people say, oh, from the logo, I mean,
you better at least be standing on it to for
me to let it go. But some of these logos rockets.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Mid nineties logo when they changed to blue, it touched
the top of the three point line because that stupid
rocket was blasting off with smoke everywhere.

Speaker 5 (23:01):
Hey too much paint launches nine and a half threes
per game, hitting number thirty five zero point four percent
this year, up from thirty two and a half last year.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
And maybe I'm an old head on that. Of course
they would because no one is shooting. What's the highest percentage?
Dylan Brooks at what thirty four?

Speaker 5 (23:16):
Dylan and Jabbari among what would be considered regulars, are
above that.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Too soon, man, huh, too soon? You mentioned Jabari's name.
It hurts my heart. He's only missed two games, barely
been without him.

Speaker 5 (23:27):
A long way to go anyway, Just last statistical item
for the important topic. We just broached four blocks per
game this year, up from three to five eight of
last year. But season not over yet. Don't know that
he finishes the season with four blocks per game. The
last time an NBA player blocked four shots a game,
how long do you think it's been?

Speaker 2 (23:47):
Who do you think it might have been? Dream?

Speaker 5 (23:50):
No, Dream did do it in nineteen ninety two ninety three.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
So it's been since then.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
One other player did it. Since then, he did it twice.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Ben Wallace. No, that's a fine guess. Well, that's all
he did besides rebounding and fighting.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
Power their former Rockets big though. He did it when
he was hugging basketballs in Denver.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Nana Ken Bay. That was that was intentional.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
I forgot average four and a half blocks per game.
Nobody else in the league has averaged four blocks per
game since then until potentially this year. Victor stays there,
hence the nickname Mount Matumbo.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
That's a pretty good one.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
It's one of the best of all time in my opinion.
Sounds good as dream though. All right, when we.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Come back, I guess Wemby has more career three pointers
made than to kenba By now.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Probably more attempts as well, undoubtedly. What's uh, what's his nickname?

Speaker 2 (24:43):
Victor?

Speaker 5 (24:43):
Yeah, I mean we got to go to the source
for this, right, I don't know what's the source basketball
reference that only has nicknames.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Because Jesus is my first guest.

Speaker 5 (24:54):
Very young, he's from overseas. Haven't had a lot of
time with him. Stifle Tower, he only as one. That
name has already been given to.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
A guy who's not as good defensively as him.

Speaker 5 (25:05):
Absolutely correct. His nickname is Wimby. That's it for now.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
That's dumb. That's all he's got. Wimby.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Your last name is long, so we just shortened it.
There's your nickname. Hmmm, look at the creativity. All right,
speaking of creativity, we have the best of X and
you are not your NBA bigs.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Yeah, Well, that's actually accurate in this case. But yeah,
what's going on in the streets of Yes you are, no,
I'm not. Yes, I am, No, you're not Yeah I
am Yeah. Are you kidding me? Two grown men on
the X platform camer NBA players.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
We're not kidding you. The best of X is.

Speaker 7 (25:40):
Next the eight on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Hey, is your joints hurt because you're a big man? Okay,
maybe you're not a big man, maybe not seven foot tall,
Maybe you're not seven foot four from France.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Maybe you're just a regular one of the mill guy
or gal. And you've got you know, knees hips, shoulders,
anything that's requiring you to not live life to the
fullest because it's a joint that's in pain.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
You've got to snap out of things.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Right now, you're already seven days into twenty twenty five
and you haven't made the call to QC Kinetics.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
What is wrong with you?

Speaker 5 (26:15):
It's just not normal to neglect that phone call to
just deal with it and say, oh, I've got chronic
joint pam.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
IM just gonna keep on going that way. You don't
have to do that.

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Make the phone called QC Kinetics seven one three nine
one three fifty two eighty five. They'll get you set
up with the free consultation. They've got four Houston area
locations for you, the Heights, their Cypress location, the location
of the Woodlands, and in sugar Land. So you can
deal with your joint pain now and make the most
of your new year, all three hundred and fifty eight

(26:43):
days remaining seven one to three and the years to
come lasting relief mind you. Seven one three nine one
three fifty two eighty five. Again, get set up with
that free consultation with q QC Kinetics seven one three
nine one three fifty two eighty five.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
We now reach len to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexworth on.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
Sports Talk seven ninety Did you all see this should
be putting out Between five and fifteen posts a day.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Four hundred people were arrested. Four things that they said
on social media history repeats itself type an you'll succeed.

Speaker 7 (27:21):
Never doubt that you're the one who plus we go
one build lead.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
You're the best of X. Nothing's gonna ever top you
know you're the best of X posting every single day.
You know you're the best of X breaking the entire Internet.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Well, I think we teased it properly, and we should
probably since we're talking about X and I'm seeing it
just fly across my timeline, we should probably go ahead
and update you on the latest head coaching firing.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Antonio Peers is out in Vegas. That sucks. I liked him.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
I thought he could have done a good job, maybe
not in that organization necessarily, and so I think he
still potentially could do a good job.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
But he is out, according to various reports.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
So all the people who are on the beat for
the Raiders now have at their disposal. Well, here's what
Antonio Pierce said yesterday after the season ended and told
us that, well, as far as I know, I'm still
the head coach. Day later, he's not again. Teams not
sure what they've been doing. The season was eighteen weeks long.
You're allowed to discuss things internally throughout that entire time.

(28:39):
Played your final game Sunday afternoon. Typical Raiders, strong effort,
typical Raiders, less talent team lose to a playoff team.
So what'd you do that night? What'd you do the
next morning?

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Nothing?

Speaker 5 (28:54):
You waited till after he met with the media to
then have your most important meetings, probably with him maybe.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
You know, Mike Brown.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
It's so unnecessary and it's so avoid Like, did something happen.
Did he yell at somebody after they said they were
keeping him. Did he yell at somebody after they said they.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
Were firing him?

Speaker 5 (29:13):
Like what's been happening for the two years? He's been
in the building for longer than that, he's been their
full time head coach here now for this season. I'm
not even debating whether it was the right or wrong move.
It's just, well, I don't like this. To me, is
is no different this past year than what happened in Jacksonville.
And unfortunately, I think Jacksonville just made Doug Peterson coach

(29:35):
out to the rest of the season knowing they would
fire him. I think he knew it. I think they
knew it. And the season ended and they fired him.

Speaker 4 (29:41):
What.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
I don't know what you're doing. If do you not
know this.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
I don't understand.

Speaker 5 (29:47):
I mean, come on, Tom, don't you know how to
run a football team? Tom Brady's football team decided to
fire their head coach. It's only Tuesday, It's only one
day after They've had a whole day to figure this out.
But that is six NFL had coaching openings. Now you've seen,
as we discussed yesterday and now at more length today,
these teams shouldn't be wasting time, and they're not. There

(30:09):
are two Texans or former Texans coaches worthy of bringing
up in this conversation, which we will when we get
back to the coaching circles. But there's thirty two NFL teams.
Fourteen of them will likely keep their head coaches. They
still have games to coach this year, and presumably each
of those fourteen teams likes the direction their franchise is

(30:32):
headed in. So of the eighteen teams that fell just
short of the playoffs, six of them have said this
isn't for us.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
We're moving on.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
Robert Solid, one of the coaches that got fired during
the season, scheduled for an interview for the Jaguars opening,
and there may be others. Mike Rabel, who spent the
season not head coaching but rather consulting for Deshaun Watson's team,
has already been on interviews and probably is going to
get one with every team if he's so inclined. He's
been on his Jets interview already, and others are set

(31:04):
to follow as early as tomorrow. Like I said, we'll
get back into that last segment. We were talking about
some of the greatest big men of all time, even
those who once wore rocket colors, and we will continue
here during this segment. Dwight Howard, former Rockets big part
of the legacy of Biggs, if you will. The whole
parking lot facade was essentially erected, painted, postered, and he

(31:29):
was a centerpiece in his honor the day he signed,
the day that he brought such luminaries as Rachel Nichols
and Stephen A. Smith to town for that big announcement,
and there he was up on that under garage wall
with many others that have been part of the legacy
of Biggs. Shack's been a part of trying to slow
down the legacy of Bigs. Games against Yao have become legendary,

(31:54):
and other assorted Rockets tall players, But he's most known
for his bat verbally with Dwight Howard, and it's been
rekindled one more time. Who do you say started this
war of words behind their keyboard? Was it Shack or

(32:16):
was it Dwight? Because it's definitely gone back and forth
so many times. I lost count of who I actually
posted the initial Hey man, let's talk about this.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Well, this particular exchange.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
I don't know, I haven't scrolled that far back, but
if you're asking who started it originally.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
I'm saying it specifically to promote how pathetic it is
it is.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Hey, he started it.

Speaker 5 (32:40):
Yeah, that is what this best of X is literally
all about. You can't get my name out of your mouth.
I can't believe what you've been doing all these Hey,
I don't care. It's you that care. No, it's you
that care. I don't care. Two grown men, former NBA
players long considered the owner, proving they still are.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yeah. The only thing that makes us more pathetic is
that it likely started over the fact that Dwight Howard
had the audacity to call himself Superman and Shack thought
he owned that nickname as far as NBA big men,
And that's what really started this whole rivalry years ago.
But the latest incarnation had Shack saying too Dwight, tagging
him at Dwight Howard, the fact.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
You think I care about you is funny, But I
won't ever bring your name up again. Sensitive big man,
A jokester that can't take a joke. Won't ever say
your name again ever again. Have a great day, and
now you have been deleted. Have a great day.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
So this was hashtag I never cared hashtag trust me
hashtag don't need validation, you do hashtags stay off podcast
hashtag the fact you think I care is funny. Hashtag Yeah,
gotta show respect to get respect. Hashtag now you're dead
to me. Sorry, now I'm done.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Ummmm, that's the whole Some of those hashtags have actually
gotten subtraction, especially you gotta show respect to get respect.
I like that one. I'm assuming the context the caption there.
The actual non hashtag portion of it was sent while
he was ordering food, riding in an elevator, talking on
the phone. I mean, have a great day and now

(34:13):
you've been deleted. Have a great day. I think he
kind of stopped in between sending this multiple times.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
But how you're dead to me? You don't forget that.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
You get to continue playing, shack, all play Dwight, Oh,
I should have read it, ass shack. Do you have
another one? So we'll get to it, all right. Dwight responded,
I know you care because you yo. Ah man, this
is tough.

Speaker 9 (34:31):
I know.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
I gotta read this as I go through.

Speaker 5 (34:33):
It, clean it up and cause your insecure backside, big
hating and talking mess for twenty years.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Backside and mess have been redacted. You too big to
be this insecure.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
I feel like I'm Colin Jost hosting pop Culture Jeopardy
on Netflix. I hope you don't bring my name up again,
fifty two years old, tweeting me and still Hayden. Now,
all this time you was joking you all. He's been jealous,
jealous of Kobe, Penny d Wade, You jealous of Charles two.

(35:06):
Go move around, big lazy, insecure backside.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
I still have that long five paragraph direct message you
sent me a couple of years ago telling me that
I'm not that great to hate, and you're still doing it.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
It's twenty twenty five. Grow the heck up and move on.
Signed at dwightehard.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Shack continues, Still don't care.

Speaker 10 (35:29):
Nice move. I see what you're doing. Your legacy is
your new podcast. That's how you will be remembered. And
you need views. Damn I taught you well. Great job,
Hall of Fame podcaster. I still don't care. You need
the sit down, you need my validation. I don't need yours.
How will you be remembered? Think about that podcast? Boy,

(35:49):
I have an empire to run. Now leave me son,
that rhymed I've been talking twenty years, but you want
to squabble at fifty. Well, I decline, I'm too old.
Two with one zero again, Nuice, move, love you son?
Hashtag take care of kids? Hashtag take care of your
family hashtag you're not a hall of Famer yet?

Speaker 5 (36:10):
I mean no additional aside about the you're not a
hall of Famer yet?

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Well, you can't technically grammatically right it the right way?
He probably should without the hashtag being like, why can't
we put apostrophes in hashtags?

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Come on now, come on?

Speaker 5 (36:29):
So I ask, come on now, was we're either of
the first two hashtags from Shack some sort of shade
throne for the size of Dwight Howard's family, specifically his
numerous kids.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
I'm sure there's something in there I get is I don't.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
Is Shack the one that should be pointing that out
to him?

Speaker 2 (36:53):
How many kids do Shack have? Are we really doing
this right now? That's why I ask? Do you think
that's what he meant?

Speaker 5 (36:59):
Or do you think he's just kind of a typical
get out of here, just take care of your family,
to go back to your life.

Speaker 3 (37:06):
You know it's probably a low hanging fruit splash, low
dig by the way. One of the responses it was
great Shaq colin, I don't care, Also Shack, and there's
like zero point five font paragraph square picture of all this.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Right, it's so true.

Speaker 5 (37:21):
Hater says you don't care, but wrote two essays. Jokic
Clears says, oh, you definitely care.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Definitely care.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
Yeah, Jack, While you're responding, no, we shame in podcasters, Lamo,
just I want to know that telling Dwight to take
care of his family when Shaq is on a podcast
every other month talking about he's alone after cheating on
his ex wife is wild.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Yet neither guy here is going to come down.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
Millionaires, creators going at each other.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
They're not going to come out of this looking good
at all.

Speaker 5 (37:58):
Would you like to take Luke to ask as you
like to take people to task on their NBA views,
Luke says, Yokich better than you both. I mean, how
many VP legacy is being the figurehead for icy hot
and the general barely remember you on the court.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
I'm not gonna make fun of him for that he's
getting paid.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
Yes, of course those are two endorsements of many Shaq
still has.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Usually, if two legendary figures are at odds on social media,
you'll hear about it on the Best of X, Thank
You Shack.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
You would never do this on social media looking unbeatable.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
The on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (38:46):
We now return to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexlwerth on
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
I did not have irrash Victor wimbin Yama hate or
irrational back and forth on Twitter between Shaq and Dwight
Howard on my bingo card for today's show, but back
to back segments. That's where we are right now.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
We should let you know that the fact that Demiko
Ryans and c J.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Stroud will be.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
Speaking in a matter of well within the next hour,
let's put it that way, and we'll hear from what
they have to say. But I did want to get
back to the Texans by drawing on something that Demiko
Ryan said yesterday that was completely innocent, innocuous, yet really
shines a spotlight on what I was trying to say

(39:41):
in the first segment and what I feel is my
biggest fear heading into this upcoming playoff game at home,
by the way, where the Texans are not favored, and
the feelings around the team, as I mentioned, are completely
different in my opinion here after the twenty twenty four
campaign versus twenty twenty three, it's cut seven from Demico

(40:02):
yesterday Dan, where he's just talking about, you know, nothing
that happened in either his and simultaneously CJ. Stroud's rookie
campaigns as head coach and quarterback respectively for the Houston
Texans has anything to do with this season.

Speaker 11 (40:19):
The mindset of our right, our young guys, right, they
just want to play. They love playing football, all right,
And that's that's how I like them.

Speaker 10 (40:27):
Like.

Speaker 11 (40:27):
Their mentality is straightforward, like, let's get to it, what's
the next opponent, what's the game playing, Let's go to work.
And that's how I want our guys to be. It's
just laser focused on what matters right now, right, and
we'll have guys who have experience in the playoffs guys
who don't have experience. At the end of the day,
for me, when the ball is snap, like are you

(40:48):
doing your job.

Speaker 12 (40:49):
Or are you not?

Speaker 11 (40:49):
Are you playing? With the Texans relentless mindset or not, like,
that's what matters, right, and our young guys, older guys,
it doesn't matter. Our team collectively. We have to play
complimentary football. Everybody has to. We have to play smart football,
eliminate mistakes I have played together and that'll be that'll
be good enough for us.

Speaker 3 (41:09):
Again, what he's saying is true, and he's saying all
the right things. And this is basically any press conference
Tamiko Ryans has ever given, let's just say, since walking
into town as Houston Texans head coach.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
They're pretty much all like that.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
In fact, I don't have a single complaint about anything
media wise that he's really ever said. But at the
same time, he is, you know, pointing out almost highlighting
why I'm just concerned that the Texans are gonna be
won and done this upcoming weekend because he's saying nothing
matters about last year.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
He's saying experience doesn't matter. Yeah, well, experience also applies
to him. It applies to CJ and their experience last
year in this round of the playoffs. By the way,
was euphoria a home game against a team that had
beaten you prior to that game in the regular season,
Rather handily and you got case Keenum. Well, yeah that's true.

(42:06):
But against that defense, Yeah, that ended up scoring something.
I mean they did all right, they scored two touchdowns. Yeah,
they did pretty good that day. Joe had a great
day in the regular season. Not so much when it counted.
Amari Cooper embarrassed them and done not so much. The
Buffalo bill I brought this up the other day. I
don't agree with most of that. The experience that you're taught,

(42:28):
you know, are young guys.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
This that Kamari Lassiter, Kaylen Bullock, Blake Fisher, That's that's it.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
That's pretty much.

Speaker 5 (42:36):
These are the guys that don't have experience in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Once you have it, you have it.

Speaker 5 (42:40):
You canna have ten games, you got have twelve games,
you can have tough losses, whatever.

Speaker 2 (42:44):
These guys have.

Speaker 5 (42:44):
All the other guys, whether they were here or not,
they've all been there, They've all been through seasons. Most
of them have playoff experience, and clearly those that were
with this year's team have plenty of it. Two games,
that's more than the other team does with their team.
Justin Herbert's played in one playoff game.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
He didn't win it.

Speaker 5 (43:00):
The Chargers were a freaking plus five in the turnover
battle in that game and lost. In they had a
twenty seven point lead and lost. I think being there,
having played there might not be a determining factor. Both
teams have been there, both quarterbacks have been there. That's
what I would say about experience.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
The ad on Sports Talk seven ninety here's what I
would say about experience in that you need to experience
Big City Wings, Houston's wing joint.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
We have been speaking.

Speaker 3 (43:34):
About them on this station for a long long time,
but WEX and I are joining the fight. The fight
to convince you guys that there is no other competition
when it comes to wing joints here in the city
of Houston. Wall to wall TVs to watch the games,
the only wing joint to offer specials every single day
on both food and drinks. You're talking about the best

(43:55):
in the biz when you're talking about Big City Wings.

Speaker 7 (43:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (43:57):
I've had a chance to go to quite a few locations,
but there are so many now, thirteen of them and
more on the way.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
There's gonna be one close by.

Speaker 5 (44:04):
There's one right near the station, of course, the one
in Ito, and many others. Specials every day Today's Tuesday.
That means two for Tuesday, buy one, get one free,
boning or boneless. Big City Wings can cater any special
occasion as well. Bigcitywings dot com to find the location
near you.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam Talking Your Teams series,
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A Team A.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
It is the A Team Sports Talk seven ninety. It
is a Tuesday edition of the program Straight Up three o'clock.
As we begin our simulcast here on Space City Home Network,
wexen ac with you taking up until five o'clock two
hours from now. We'll step aside but not really from
a show standpoint, to get you ready for Rockets basketball.

(45:02):
They are in the nation's capital for their lone appearance
there this season. I feel confident in saying that seeing
as how the Wizards are six wins into the season
after better than a quarter of it being passed. They're
a very bad basketball team and the Rockets. The only
I think drama surrounding tonight's game is whether or not
Jalen Green ends up playing, since he was questionable with

(45:24):
a knee contusion. You're not going to likely have Tarr
Easton again. You obviously don't have Jabari Smith Junior because
of that fractured left hand. But everybody else should be
available for tonight at coming off that big win over
the Lakers. I guess it's a big win except Reed Shepherd.
Oh well, Reed Shepherd has been jettisoned.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
He is playing tonight.

Speaker 5 (45:44):
He's playing against Oklahoma City the Blue versus the Vipers.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
Wait wait, wait, their name is the Blue?

Speaker 11 (45:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (45:52):
How did I not know this?

Speaker 5 (45:54):
You don't follow the G League quite as closely as
I do.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
I guess correct, But I just didn't know that Blue was.

Speaker 3 (46:01):
A what's the best word for this?

Speaker 2 (46:05):
A color acceptable name for a team?

Speaker 5 (46:09):
Yeah, I mean, if you type in Oklahoma City Blue
into your search bar, it will have put a dash
next to it, and next to that it says basketball team.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
It's just I mean, I guess I wasn't expecting that
when you tell me that the Astros minor league affiliate
of any kind is going to play like the Woodpeckers
or something like that. Yeah, minor league baseball.

Speaker 5 (46:30):
You don't like like the idea of calling them the
Shreland Scarlets the Shreland Reds.

Speaker 3 (46:38):
The Scarlet is too extravagant for this we're talking about blue,
it would be red or shade of red.

Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yeah, the Blue do exist.

Speaker 5 (46:48):
They're part of the landscape of the w NBA, along
with the WNBA, the G League. There's the there's the
the Go Go, the Go Go, the smaller unit of
the Washington franchise, the Capital City Go Go.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Really. Give me we continue, Yeah, give me some other horrific.
Give me an.

Speaker 5 (47:07):
Alia team, and I will tell you who their affiliate is.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
Well, I did all of the hate on the Spurs
in the first hour, So let's go ahead and go there.

Speaker 5 (47:16):
You are unaware of their affiliate. Do you even know
what city they plan?

Speaker 2 (47:20):
Austin? Yes, okay, they went wild with their name the
Cowboy Boots.

Speaker 5 (47:29):
Nope, they're called the Spurs Austin.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
Come on, manah, I play for the Spurs. Really? Yeah?
In Austin.

Speaker 5 (47:35):
Iowa has done the same for Minnesota, the Iowa Wolves.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
Well, at least that's shorter.

Speaker 5 (47:41):
The Los Angeles Clippers outfit in Oceanside, the Clip Joint,
the San Diego Clippers, Santa Cruz Warriors, South Bay Lakers,
the Valley Suns, the Osceola Magic, the Main Celtics, the
Long Island Nets, and everybody else has a different name

(48:01):
than their NBA I mean fathers.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
I'm not trying to be biased here, but clearly the
most creative and cool name that I've heard is the
Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets affiliate.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
Actual good name. I overlooked.

Speaker 5 (48:14):
The Westchester Nicks and the Wendy City Bulls.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
My bad, like the worst than I'm gonna try.

Speaker 3 (48:19):
That's what they said in these these corporate meetings they
had in these boardroom meetings.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
Do you like Rip City Remix? Yes? I do.

Speaker 3 (48:26):
I don't know what remix has to do with Portland.
I also left I would have called them Antifa left out.
The Stockton Kings my bad.

Speaker 2 (48:33):
The Stockton Kings.

Speaker 5 (48:34):
Dallas's affiliate. They are Legends. They play in Texas, the
Texas Legends.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Couldn't use Texans. Uh. The Detroit Pistons outfit. They are
the Crews.

Speaker 5 (48:45):
The Cruise like Tom Motor City Cruise.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (48:49):
People in Indiana very very unhappy that they're a franchise.
There G League affiliate. It also calls Indiana home. Also
plays at the Gainbridge Field House. They're the mad Ants,
Blue Coats, the Swarm of the Charge the Skyhawks, the Squadron,
the Pels outfit in Birmingham. I mean that should satiate

(49:10):
your appetite for G League team names.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
This is the third segment of our show that we've
hosted an hour and change of that I did not
see coming.

Speaker 5 (49:16):
Reed Shepherd is expected to make his G League debut
tonight with the Real Grand Valley.

Speaker 2 (49:22):
Vipers over under Helma City.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Twenty five and a half Just points, Yeah, twenty five
rebounds A lot.

Speaker 5 (49:30):
Of times, there's points this plus assist.

Speaker 3 (49:33):
Twenty five and a half is a nice round number
for a guy who will be playing against the equivalent
of eighth graders going up against the varsity squad in
high school.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
Well, they're all the same, they're all eighth graders.

Speaker 3 (49:46):
Yeah, but I feel like the number three pick in
the draft who was a good shooter coming out of college.

Speaker 5 (49:51):
Yeah, there's some element of summer league. This element most specifically,
they don't play any defense that's good. Their defense never
has been any defense played in the G League. So
the number of shots you get, the number of points
you can get, the number of threes you can launch,
these numbers are they actually have been worse in previous
years than they have been this year, but that's what
he's going to do out there.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
So twenty five averaging like forty right.

Speaker 5 (50:13):
No, not quite but it was close. No, I don't
think it was quite anywhere near that.

Speaker 2 (50:18):
But he gets that.

Speaker 5 (50:20):
It was pointless. It wasn't even just this homestand that
should have shown the Rockets he got put in the
rotation without earning it.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
He was running away on the bench too.

Speaker 5 (50:29):
But there there was no reason for him to have
been in the rotation from day one, and he was other.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Than he was the number three pick in the draft.
Who cares? Well, I'm telling you that's probably what the
thinking was.

Speaker 5 (50:40):
I understand that. But are you he may goes to
all the games, right, I'm I'm as stunned as you are.
That's the one guy that I would be like, he
doesn't cared. This guy was taking number three overall.

Speaker 3 (50:50):
He has a rotation in games to win, and to
his credit, despite Reid being in the rotation with not
very quality minutes, given the returns or for the most part,
Rockets are absolutely surging past expectations this year.

Speaker 5 (51:05):
I don't think him being in the rotation over Aaron
Holliday was going to derail the team. So that's why
they are where they are. But super passive, way too
passive to be a rotation player, way too passive to
be a successful NBA player, and that he's got to
get that out of him, and I mean, he personally
needs to work his way out of that, because you
can't help the team if you can't do the thing

(51:26):
that you do well while you're out there.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Made four of his last twenty nine three point attempts.

Speaker 5 (51:30):
He wasn't shooting it well before that, but that obviously
was untenable and the team just wasn't getting anything out
of the position. So the halftime of the first game
of this homestand you basically saw that shift. He was
in the rotation of the first half, and he basically
never played again the rest of the home stand until
there were minutes to eat up for somebody that wasn't
going to impact the outcome of the game. And now
he finally has the opportunity, I think, and there should

(51:51):
be quite a bit of time, barring injury, for him
to go out there and play.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
Run a team.

Speaker 5 (51:56):
Run point, continue working on your handle, continue working on defense.
Players of at least equal size, but usually bigger and
stronger and often you know, difficult matchups for a player
of his size. All these things you're only going to
get better at in season by playing. He can get
better at it during training camp when they literally play
against one another every day, but they're not doing that

(52:17):
during in season practice is nearly enough for him to
get his only work at practice. He's got to get
work in game, even if it has at the G
League level.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
Although you could argue that he could have gotten some
very meaningful minutes in this game tonight, and maybe even
Dunnis if you wanted to hold Jalen out, Let's give
rit A spots start in this game, just because it's
the Wizards and they're terrible, so there will be no
defense being played against him in that regard.

Speaker 2 (52:45):
I would probably shy away from that. Yeah, I figured
you would, all right, So that's your Rockets breakdown, if
you will.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
We've been talking a lot about the Texans and that
they've got a playoff game this weekend, and the fact
that Demico Ryan's any minute now is going to step
up to the podium and give his latest thoughts. You
heard from him last segment talking about he basically experience
does count somewhat, but they're not looking back at anything
that's happened in the past. Going into this weekend's game

(53:14):
against the Chargers, it's all about focusing and being locked
in and being ready to play this home playoff game.
They are not favored him, by the way, But I'll
go a step further before Rex Ryan retakes his position
as head coach of the New York Jets. At least
according to him in his camp, that's what it sounds
like is gonna happen. He's very confident he's got as
good a shot as any to get that gig, which,

(53:36):
by the way, he said if he did, he would
end the quote country club for Aaron Rodgers. But he
doesn't seem to think that they should even play this
game this weekend.

Speaker 2 (53:46):
I know that the number was two and a half
on this game. Rex Ryan is like, this is essentially well,
just listen to what he calls this game for the Chargers.

Speaker 8 (53:55):
I never realized the Charger's gotta buy that it qualify
for bye, but they did because they're playing Houston. This
team right here number one in the National Football League
in scoring defense. And by the way, Quintin Johnson he
actually can catch the ball.

Speaker 7 (54:09):
He was under thirteen catches.

Speaker 8 (54:10):
Remember this is a kid that couldn't catch a cold,
like all of a sudden, now he's catching the ball.

Speaker 7 (54:15):
They're moving it.

Speaker 8 (54:16):
They can they can pound you with the run game.
They also realize they.

Speaker 7 (54:19):
Have a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
So the foot fetishist is very convinced that they shouldn't
even play this game. That as soon as the Chargers
get off the bus, they've won. It's a bye week
for them. I understand thinking the Texans aren't going to
win this football game. I even understand thinking that, yeah,
it's not going to be particularly close or competitive or whatever.
I don't know if it's that lopsided.

Speaker 5 (54:44):
I also understand something Rex Ryan Television, Yeah television, that
bye week, off week, have an opponent.

Speaker 2 (54:53):
Stuff.

Speaker 5 (54:54):
Wasn't even the most inflammatory comment. Mister zero wins in
the playoffs is a Hall of Fame quarterback. Justin Herbert's
going to the Hall of Fame. I did not know that.
I did not realize somebody with the career trajectory of
I don't win divisions or playoff games is headed to
the Hall of Fame. I was unaware. Thank you for
enlightening me.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
Rex Well, he does that almost on the daily with
various topics, good opinions and bad opinions, And bottom line
is the incredible majority of national voices will pick the
Chargers to win, and there's a pretty good chance they're
going to be right.

Speaker 5 (55:31):
So it's not even crazy for him to have presented
it that way. And that is a reflection even though
he was way too into the Chargers. And if the
Texans are and off week for the Chargers, then why
do you care that Quinton Johnson caught all those footballs
against the team that just fired their coach that probably
wasn't off week too, wasn't It took up till the

(55:52):
second half to actually win the game, put the game away,
make sure they would even get to this game as
opposed to having to go to ball more. By taking
out one of the worst teams in the NFL, good job, congrats.
It's still more of a reflection of Houston the way
they played the season, the seventeen games that these people
analysts have to look at, they stink. It's not good tape.

(56:13):
They're not a good football team the way that they
have been playing. A five and one team finished five
and six and gets to host a game against the
Chargers on Saturday.

Speaker 7 (56:25):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
Tell you what you need to host, you need to
host getting back to yourself in your life. Just make
it a point here in twenty twenty five to go
over to Men's Tclinic dot com. Find out where the
closest Houston area location is to you and get back
to being you.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
You can go over to.

Speaker 3 (56:46):
The Heights where I go each and every Thursday, right
there at Itan and Durham, but they also have locations
in Cyprus, Paarland, Pasadena, and Spring.

Speaker 2 (56:53):
Here's the thing. They are going to individualize the treatment
plan for you. Should you discover and determine that you
do have low testosterone, and it's a simple blood test
to get it done. Then you find out for sure,
and then you can go about treating some of the symptoms.
And they're not all just related to sexual wellness. It
can be the case when you have low testosterone, but

(57:14):
you could also have the inability to lose weight, to
build muscle mass, to have hair, vitality, and so much more.
For total wellness optimization here in the new year, go
to Men's TA Clinic dot com. That's Men's Tclinic dot com.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
We now return to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexeler.

Speaker 7 (57:33):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (57:41):
An update tamik O Ryan Still he's not with the podium.

Speaker 5 (57:45):
I think we'll be okay with or without his timeliness.
They also practice before they speak, so unlike teams who
can easier stick to their exact schedule by doing so
horribly before practice.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
Hey, so, how did he look today? I don't know.
Is he going to practice day? Maybe?

Speaker 5 (58:02):
I mean, I'm glad the textans do it this way,
but yes, at time to time, it could throw off
the schedule a little bit. On the practice field today,
of course, Aaron Wilson was out there are insider and
I think it's noteworthy and I think it might just
play out this way when we get to Saturday, considering
this is technically the first day of the work week.
On field today, Tomorrow and Thursday off day, Friday walk through,

(58:26):
they're no travel, and then they play on Saturday. John Metchi,
who took a shot to the head in the game
on Sunday, did return, but not practicing today. I'm curious
how that will be listed on the injury report. Denico
Autry who was held out of the game and has
been dealing with something for a couple of weeks, also
did not practice, and Shack Mase not practicing today at

(58:49):
least according to what was seen out there, and that's
normally very very accurate for the time that the media
gets to spend on the field. We might not see
what's happening truly from a practice standpoint, but attend is
usually something we can take care of. Jack Mason not
practicing should lead to Shaq Mason not being on their
active roster list for Saturday and thus not playing Saturday.

(59:12):
So I would expect the same five players, barring a
practice week injury to say out there as their offensive line.
That means Blake Fisher and Laromy Tunsel at tackle, means
Juice Scruggs and Titus Howard at guard, and Jarret Patterson
continuing at center. They did designate tight end, tagging Quatoriano
to return from ir and they have a couple of

(59:32):
those options available to them once the postseason begins, and
he's the first that they've used, it might be the
only one even if they continue to play based on
other guys availability, not thinking they're going to play four
tight ends or have four active tight ends, but for
the first time all year, they have four tight ends
on the active roster. As they get ready for the game,

(59:53):
he makes it four. I shouldn't say it that way.
He's technically not yet on the active roster. He's only
been designated to return. But Quatriano with IRV Smith Junior
and Cad Stover and Dalton Schultz probably helps them make
the best decision. But I would think they unless they less,
they plan on throwing the ball to the other tight ends.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
A whole lot more.

Speaker 5 (01:00:16):
That would be the only reason why maybe you'd have
Teagan out there if they value him as a pass catcher,
because they certainly don't value IRV Smith Junior as a
pass catcher yet to even be thrown at in a
game so far this season, but they do value him
as a blocker. Also on the practice field, fully fought
Acasi who's missed some time here late in the season.

Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
Will Anderson Junior and Christian Harris.

Speaker 5 (01:00:35):
Probably if something was to be earned by beating the Titans,
probably both would have been available to play for the
Texans this past Sunday. Neither did, and both should be
good to go. Christian Harris and Aziz Al Schier on
the field together for the first time Saturday afternoon against

(01:00:57):
a balanced offense. A running game that if you can
corral then you're obviously in a much better position. It's
not an overwhelming running game by any means, and it
is a little bit of running back by committee. Clearly,
I think will Disley has become a more important target
as the tight end, and with how the Texans are
deploying the players in the slot in Petrie and Ward's absence,

(01:01:18):
there may be some opportunities for them to have a
little bit of different look defensively than we've seen much
of this year, to try to, you know, keep the
chargers for moving up and down the field.

Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
So and we're gonna get to you know what Demico
and of course CJ. Stroud have to say today in
anticipation of this game. Just to go back to what
we talked about a little bit earlier in the program
and before we got onto the simulcast here on Space
City Home Network, the fact that the latest casualty of
the coaching carousel Antonio Piers there in Vegas, means that

(01:01:50):
an additional spot has opened up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
Really really good one, very desirable job.

Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
I was just about to say, you know, you mentioned
Robert Solid looking at Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Why would you go there?

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
If you're any head coach worth his salt, and in
particular him who just dealt with a volatile quarterback situation.

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
Let's just leave it at that.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
I know it's completely different there you go, but it's
a different set of problems that are very real. Altogether,
He's got youth on his side. And that's about it.
Talking about Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 5 (01:02:24):
Yeah, I mean arguably speaking this just in it's an
available head coaching job.

Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
I know. I mean you can't.

Speaker 5 (01:02:33):
I'm not sure how highly you think of yourself. Not
everybody can be Ben Johnson, who has basically told teams
don't hire me as your head coach, even though you've
entered me and loved me to be your head coach,
because I don't want your job or I'm not ready
to take your job, And now he's possibly I would
say he's definitively going to be a head coach this year.
There's six teams that have openings. The Jets' job is awful,

(01:02:55):
the Raiders' job is awful, the Saints' job is awful,
and The other three jobs are the Bears with Caleb Williams,
the Patriots with Drake May, and Jacksonville. You can grave
them out however you want. And some franchises may actually
be okay from a talent standpoint, but clearly they're in
trouble because they don't have a quarterback. If you feel

(01:03:16):
like you trust management in each of the three bad organizations,
you can't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
You don't even know who management is yet.

Speaker 5 (01:03:22):
With the Jets, they are the only general manager opening
right now in the NFL. I guess, and I say
that knowing that we opened the show mentioning Ran Carthon.
Titans GM fired after two seasons, and I'm still not
even ready to say there are two GM jobs open,
because that's how poorly run the Tennessee Titans are. The

(01:03:47):
Vegas Raiders fired Antonio Pierce. They made it official in
a very typically worded statement. Of course, they didn't use
the word fire, because I guess you can't anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
It's so silly.

Speaker 5 (01:03:59):
They relieved him of his d We appreciate his leadership
first as an interim head coach in this past season
as the head coach. Grew up a Raiders fan and
his silver and black roots run deep. We're grateful for
his ability to reignite what it means to be a
Raider throughout the entire organization, with nothing but the best
for Antonio and his family in the future. A couple
of sentences simple, it was nice about him, applauded him

(01:04:19):
for kind of bringing back the feeling of what it's
like in their mind to be amongst Raider nation. Nothing
more needs to be said, and most teams know that
Titans don't. Titans had to release a statement from two
different people, one of which was released on social media.
That from Amy Adams Strunk, controlling owner Tennessee Titans. The

(01:04:41):
other one was sent out to some media, not posted
on social media, and then sprinkled within the internally written
article on their website. But the one that was sent
out is essentially the Titan statement on the firing of
Rand Carthon, and it reads, I've loved the time I
spent with Ran. He's a talented football mind, a great

(01:05:03):
man and friend to everyone along his path. It's impossible
to ignore that our football team hasn't improved over the
past two years. I'm deeply disappointed in our poor win
loss record during this period.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Nine to twenty five. I've added that.

Speaker 5 (01:05:16):
Of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern
about our long term future. Should we stay the course.
I love this team more than you can imagine. To
our fans, we know this level of performance isn't acceptable.
Where we were humbled by your support as we continue
to work towards building the team you expect and deserve.
Signed Amy Adams Strunk, trolling owner Tennessee Titans. If you

(01:05:38):
missed it, it's impossible to ignore that our football team
hasn't improved over the past two years. My decision also
speaks to my concern about our long term future.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
Should we stay the course. She is firing the GM.

Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
We understand what that means, but if we don't, she's
telling us his vision for where we should be going.
The moves that we're mat during his tenure were awful.
That's why we're a three win team. He's terrible at
his job, and so he's fired. Most teams don't do that.
Most teams. The firing is the hard part, that's the
mean stuff, that's the man.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
I hate to see a good person go.

Speaker 5 (01:06:16):
They don't usually also kick them on their way out
the door, which in my opinion, this statement, does we
get it. You don't like that. That's why you fired him.
We already understood, we know what it is. He's not
there anymore. You don't like where things are headed. The
other statement was the much better one anyway, where they said,
here's our president of football ops and he's going to
run the organization and he's going to lead our search.

(01:06:38):
Oh and by the way, buried in this statement, he
also has final say on the roster, so as he
interviews general manager candidates, he'll close with, don't forget I'm
your daddy. I have final say on the roster.

Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Why would you go work there? So you have named
for me?

Speaker 3 (01:06:56):
Or we have discussed here one, two, I'll say three,
and probably four places that even though as you said,
they are a head coaching position in the NFL, I
don't want any part of them.

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:07:13):
The NFL coaching career for David Keully ended with him
taking the Texans job for millions and millions and millions
in the Bible. Yeah, made twenty plus million from the
Texans by saying yes, I will advance my career and
end it at the same time.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
And immediately left to replace his hip.

Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
But none of the other coaches that are in these
searches I think are comparable to what that did?

Speaker 11 (01:07:39):
You know?

Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
This last coaching cycle, Gerrodmeo took a job with the Patriots,
Antonio Pierce went through the interview process after being the
interim head coach and got the Raiders' job, And one
year later, they've both been fired and I can't I
don't believe in either case it's the end of their
coaching career. It prevents them from being a head coach again.
It stinks, it's awful, you don't feel good today. They're

(01:08:04):
both going to get another job, and maybe, and it's
not always the case, especially for a certain group of
head coaches or gms, that they get another chance, but
not taking the job is still probably the worst alternative.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
Fortunately for the Texans, two of these vacancies are right
there in their division, so probably two different opportunities for
you to beat up on two other division rivals over
the next several years.

Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
The ad on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Hey, it's Craig Affort.

Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Listen to the Home of the Rockets on yours smart speaker.

Speaker 1 (01:08:43):
Just ask hey, Google play Sports Talk seven ninety on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
It is the a team.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
Sports Talk seven ninety AC with you here simulcast on
Space City Home Network. I mentioned kind of in passing
earlier that Rex Ryan was supremely confident in his uh
just his thinking that he's going to be rehired by
the Jets. I think that's the most fascinating part of this.
This wouldn't even be the first go round for him there,

(01:09:19):
and we all know about the ownership there and all
the kind of stuff that goes into that. But Robert Sala,
who again as you mentioned, is at least looking at
the Jacksonville position.

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
They planned to interview right right right, there's mutual interest.

Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
In other words, why was Rex Ryan ousted to begin
with in jets Land?

Speaker 5 (01:09:42):
Because despite having more success than those who preceded him,
in way more success than those who have since followed him,
they just slowed to their winning.

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
That's what I thought.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
I was trying to figure out if there's anything more
to this, Maybe there's a personality conflict.

Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Which could His firing wasn't like I can't I believe
they did that, but it just they weren't quite but
at the level they were earlier and he and Mark
Sanchez's time together.

Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
It hasn't exactly aged like a fine whine the decision. No,
but that's that is a risk you take. They fired
a four win coach. That's not outrageous. Rex Ryan had
zero winning seasons in his last four years there. He
had two Jeff Fishers, but none of them were winning seasons,
so they fired him after the fourth consecutive non winning season.

Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
That's totally reasonable.

Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
They had one of the worst offenses in the league
for multiple years running, their defense was no longer quite
playing at that level, and they weren't winning, so they
moved on to Todd Bowles, who immediately won ten games,
and then in the now nine seasons that have followed,
they have zero winning seasons. They finished above second zero

(01:10:48):
times since then. Bulls got four years, Crazy Eye, Adam
Gase got two, well respected, Robert Sala got three plus,
and I don't believe jeff O Brick will be getting
a real interview to continue and do what Antonio Pierce
did a year ago, go from introm to head coach.

(01:11:09):
There are six openings the Jets reportedly have requested to
interview just these people for their head coaching position. We
know Rex Ryan, Mike Rabel, and Ron Rivera have already interviewed.
They have requests in for just this small group of people.
Brian Greasy, Joe Brady, Matt Naggi, Arthur Smith, Josh McCown,

(01:11:32):
Brian Flores, Bobby Slowick Vance, Joseph Aaron, Glenn, Ben Johnson.

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
That's it. That's it so far. How many did the
Texans interview during their when they initially not this season
they hired Miko, but the season before weren't there like
a ton the season they hired love Lovey Smith.

Speaker 5 (01:11:52):
Yeah, the Texans interviewed these three non lovies twice.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
And real quick, are you reading from the spreadsheet?

Speaker 5 (01:12:00):
Of course it's right here at my disposal that Brian
Flores interviewed twice. Yes, Bird Gang Guy interviewed twice.

Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
I love that you still call him that.

Speaker 5 (01:12:08):
He's the Arizona head coach. Jonathan Gannon at the time
he was the Philly d C. Josh McCown interviewed twice.
Why did you have to bring that up? Because I
have some additional information to add to that. Gosh, which
I can't believe, I can't even remember. Hines Ward interviewed
Joe Lombardi, who's awful? Who was the Buffalo DC getting there.

(01:12:30):
Oh sorry, heines Ward, Joe Lombardi, Kevin O'Connell. Very confusing situation.
He was the RAMSOC at the time, and there were
so core requests put in and the timing when he
was available, and did they actually interview him. It took
a while, but he did interview with the Texans. I
think you're thinking of Leslie Frasier. That was not the

(01:12:52):
year that they interviewed him. Okay, because again they were
in a coaching search three consecutive years.

Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
You can understand my confusion.

Speaker 5 (01:12:59):
I bring up Josh McCown because Josh McCown being requested
by the Jets and maybe other teams is not the
same as the Texans interviewing him. It's not well, I
guess the Texans were right. You can think that all
you want. Jack easter By, nobody said, even me, I'm

(01:13:20):
in the Nobody said he can't be a good head coach.
I said, he doesn't deserve this as an interview opportunity.
And they interviewed him in both of those first two years,
and obviously in this instance they interviewed him twice, so
they were serious about him. He had not done anything
as a post NFL career player to warrant a job

(01:13:43):
interview for the head coaching position. There's no reason to
have interviewed him. He hadn't coached anywhere. They're totally ridiculous.
And now, multiple seasons later and multiple years after he
has been an NFL coach, it's super early. It's almost
unheard of for someone who's coached as little as he

(01:14:04):
has to get head coaching interest. But he also coaches
in Minnesota, and he's the quarterback coach, and their quarterback
just had the season of his life and the team
just played for the number one seed into the final
night of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
This is different.

Speaker 5 (01:14:21):
You interview successful coaches on successful staffs. He happens to
be one, albeit with very limited coaching experience.

Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
But it's exactly what you're saying is not only true,
it's fair when it comes to this thing. Here's my question.
Are you surprised that Aaron Glenn's name isn't being mentioned
more considering what the Lions have done, not just this year,
but also last season.

Speaker 5 (01:14:45):
Well, yesterday, the Patriots job opened, Today, the Vegas Raiders
jobs opened. The other four jobs were all opened roughly
earlier or the Jacksonville job opened yesterday too. He's been
requested to be interviewed by all those openings, and I
assume he'll be an enter reviewed by all that he wants.
I do applaud and this is rare applaud the Detroit

(01:15:06):
sports fans. If you missed it, Piston's had a home
game the other day yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Aaron Glenn was there.

Speaker 5 (01:15:13):
He was in one of the sweet court side areas
where he's got a nice couch for his vantage point.
They do that at Toyota Center as well, and they
put him up on the big screen and the place
absolutely went wild for him over I mean a long minimum,
at least thirty five seconds. So that's what the video
showed of a standing ovation for I already think people
knew what a good job he'd been doing, even though

(01:15:35):
a lot of the numbers suggested otherwise. They're running out
of players, and they just turned in a we want
the number one seed type of performance against Minnesota. Darnold
helped by just playing poorly, but the defense had a
little bit to do with it. He's unlikely to remain
with Detroit because two of the interviews he's going on
he has a lot of history with those outfits.

Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
The Jets are going to interview him.

Speaker 5 (01:15:57):
He obviously played there and knows that organization very well,
and he spent time as a coach for quite a
long time and knows that organization from his playing days. Similarly,
with the New Orleans Saints, neither of them have a quarterback.
I hate to think that Aaron Glenn is finally going
to get his chance to be a head coach and
he and whomever the GM is in New York and

(01:16:18):
however they manage their awful money and their stupid forty
million dollars quarterback in New Orleans, Derek Carr, he doesn't
get saddled with a job he cannot win with because
they don't have a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Well, he has to say yes as well. And if
you listen to Rex Ryan, it's not going to matter
that he goes and interviews with Jets because Rex is
the best.

Speaker 13 (01:16:37):
You think you're going to get this job, right? You
think you're going to be the next head coach of
the Jets. Oh? Absolutely I do. And the reason I
think I'm gonna get it is because I'm the best guy.
And it ain't close. The thing that you have to do,
you have to connect with the football team. You have
to connect with your fan base and the way they play.
That's the most important thing, not just the x's and o's.

Speaker 7 (01:16:57):
And all that.

Speaker 8 (01:16:58):
Look this Ben Johnson, I love them, I absolutely love him.
But I'm a better candidate for this job than he
would be.

Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
He needs to stay on TV because of sound bites
like that. I mean I kind of like him as
a head coach. I know who sound bites like that?
Who do you think is going to win this week?

Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
We are next? You guys just got beat thirty five
nothing last week? You feel confidence?

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
Yes, let's go get a bleepy, bleeping snack.

Speaker 7 (01:17:25):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:17:30):
Back to Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler. Two a's Hey,
the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety You're a home
for your home teams and these two apps.

Speaker 2 (01:17:50):
It is the eighteen Sports Talks seven ninety. Yeah, this
is worth it, especially considering that both my co host
and my elf have a vested interest in Friday night's
game up in Arlington. This is not good breaking news.
Are you ready for this?

Speaker 5 (01:18:08):
I don't know it, but the way you've set it
up makes me think I do.

Speaker 2 (01:18:13):
I just.

Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
Well, I'm gonna read from the following account at Ted Cruz.

Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Oh not what I thought.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Hey, jd Vance care for a wager on the ut
Ohio state game. Loser brings beer and food from his
home state and delivers it wearing the winning jersey hashtag
hook him. Now, this has nothing to do with politics
other than the fact that these are two political figures.

(01:18:46):
But I just mean from the standpoint of what you believe,
don't believe, who you voted for, whatever, This has everything
to do with the fact that when Ted Cruz gets involved, well,
that team tends to lose a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
It seems like in big games.

Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
The good news as the fine folks on the X
platform let me know yesterday you need not worry. Formerly
a Houston meteorologist now in the Fort Worth Dallas fort
Worth area the Metroplex, Colin Myers rolled out on the
X platform and it says, Dallas snow, My goodness, the

(01:19:19):
euro again.

Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
I just can't believe my eyes.

Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Run after run the display of what this city, Arlington
and the Cotton Bowl location will be engulfed by between
Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
The game is Friday, isn't the European model far more
ominous and than the non European one isn't.

Speaker 5 (01:19:40):
Very important information for our conversation here. As you try to,
you know, wonder if he's even gonna be accurate.

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
For my point, we'll leave it as is.

Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
Edgar, the Tunnel, Evil Mopack have all added some context
to Ted Cruz, the Longhorns, and the Cotton Bowl. The
bet is fine. JD can even accept the bet. They
can continue to talk about the bet. But as each
of those three individuals on x I mentioned note, Edgar says,

(01:20:12):
as he quote tweeted that weather report, Ted Cruz already
on his way to Cancun as we speak, Tunnel says,
I guess what the weather expected Friday. We won't have
to worry about Ted Cruz being at the game. He'll
be in can kuon hook, Evil Mopak about to be
so cold in Texas that Ted Cruz has probably already

(01:20:32):
left for can Kun. I'm a little concerned. The game
being played at at and T Stadium, not the actual
Cotton Bowl. The actual Cotton Bowl does not provide indoor temperatures.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
There's no roof on that old, old, old building.

Speaker 5 (01:20:49):
There is at at and T Stadium, So the conditions
inside the building will be fine.

Speaker 2 (01:20:56):
Enjoy this is the Cowboys game.

Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
Enjoying the game from the comfortable indoor temperatures of a
football stadium are at your disposal should you decide to
get inside the building, travel potentially to that area between
Thursday and or day of Friday to enjoy the game.
My only hope is somehow this rather powerful person who
can probably make a phone call or two and kind

(01:21:18):
of get done whatever he needs to get done in
terms of making it somewhere in short notice or in
rapid fashion. My hope is, for the very reasons you
suggested this be breaking news, is he will be unable
or unwilling to attend the Cotton Bowl and go see
I guess his beloved Longhorns. The Governor will be there.

(01:21:40):
He's been at most of their games. You'll see him
on the sidelines. He'll be wearing his burn orange. He
also went to Texas. It's a little different and he
does not carry the curse that Ted seems to carry
with any of the Texas teams games he attends on
the regular So hopefully this will be one he just
can't quite get to. Built in excuse for Longhorn fans

(01:22:01):
if As sizable, nearly touchdown underdogs they come up short
against Ohio State. If he attends, there's your built in excuse.
Not because of Quinn. It's not because of their defense,
not because of Burt Auburn. It's not because of Burt Auburn,
not because of Steve Sarkesian giving the worst pre kick
motivational speech of all time. It's because Ted Cruz attended.

(01:22:22):
Hopefully that will not be the case.

Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
He was in attendance when the Astros clinched against the
Phillies couple of years ago.

Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
Was he not I'll take your word for it. I
don't I don't follow politics.

Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
Well, no, I just there was a lot of hope.
Like George Strait was there that night. You know, matthewmcconaughey
was there the night the year prior and they lost.

Speaker 5 (01:22:38):
But you know, I mean Matthew McConaughey in his lifetime
as a graduate of Texas or as a supporter, a
long supporter of the war, he's been a I mean,
he's attended every National championship game they've won, right as
far as I know. I mean, it's I can't remember.

Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
Was he on the sidelines for v Y. I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
As you recall, this was the undefeated fifty point per
game Texas Longhorns against the best team of all time, ever, ever,
all time ever. It was promoted all week like that.
They got a bye week against the Texas. Both sides
had their personalities to help pipe up the game. Matthew
who did the voice work for the intro to the game?

Speaker 2 (01:23:23):
I forgot about that? And Willa Will Ferrell, Who's where
do you put him?

Speaker 8 (01:23:28):
Now?

Speaker 12 (01:23:29):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:23:29):
Well, where do you got to tell me where Matthew
is so I know where to place Will well? As
you're talking about celebrity football fans or prominence in the
acting world currently, Yeah, the last part, I mean, like
he Wress Ferrell's need to attend because he's a nominee
at awards shows doesn't really exist. Matthew goes quite often

(01:23:51):
because he might even win because he acts well in
movies like that, and Will doesn't do many movies like that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
Matt's a bigger start, right.

Speaker 5 (01:24:00):
I don't compare McConaughey and Adam Sandler either.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
True, but there's more range, clearly, but both are pretty
I mean mcconney's a.

Speaker 5 (01:24:09):
Bigger star, though much bigger movie star. He's much star
star A star. Well, Will Ferrell's pretty well known.

Speaker 3 (01:24:16):
Correct, That's why I mean, I think it's more. It's
a It is a conversation.

Speaker 5 (01:24:19):
Stop talking for two seconds and clear your mind for
three seconds. Okay, I say the name, and you tell
me the first movie that comes to mind, Will Ferrell Anchorman, Okay,
it's not Elf.

Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
Uh you ready to go again? I know we're coming
off the holidays again. Matthew McConaughey.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
That's tough because, believe it or not, as a guy
who sits here on a radio show with a microphone
in his face and has numerous times, both recorded and live,
done an impression of this guy.

Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
For the fact that.

Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
I have seen or not seen un inordinate amount of
mcconniey films, that fact still surprises even me.

Speaker 5 (01:25:03):
Which rom com do you want to say? And you
easily you have so many outs. You could have said
a Wolf of Wall Street. But I've seen that Dallas Buyers.
He's in that movie for ten minutes.

Speaker 8 (01:25:13):
I know.

Speaker 5 (01:25:13):
Even though he steals the show, it's very memorable. He
still beats his chest at Longhorn practices sometimes.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Oh but I have not seen like I've seen Lincoln lawyer.

Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
I have not seen Interstellar. I have not seen what's
the HBO show he was on. I haven't seen that,
you know, the one where he.

Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Was the cop.

Speaker 5 (01:25:31):
I wouldn't call him a movie star because of a
product detective television.

Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
I haven't seen his most iconic Just name a j
Lo movie or a Kate Hudson movie. How hard is this?
Those are not even real movies. Well, then I guess
Will Ferrell wins.

Speaker 5 (01:25:50):
It was for you and you had options. You could
have said, step bros.

Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
You ever seen Dallas Buyer's Club. That's a very, very
wide ranging role.

Speaker 5 (01:26:00):
None of the people we mentioned are thought of as,
oh my god, please don't come to our game. We're
going to lose. Ted Cruz is that person. So I
think many people are hoping that doesn't happen. Hancoon Joe
told you that the head coach showed the Houston Texans
set to speak a little bit ago.

Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
He's just wrapped up.

Speaker 5 (01:26:16):
Wait till you hear his response to Rex Freaking Ryan
calling the Texans game for the Chargers an off week.

Speaker 7 (01:26:25):
The a team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam talking your Teams series.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the A team.

Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
A four o'clock hour is underway here on Sports Talk
seven ninety. At the start of the five o'clock hour,
instead of football or five, we'll bring you Rockets basketball
because they're on the East Coast.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Probably, I mean, it's not my no, my discretion. So
wait when you start the local Rockets pregame show launch
Pad loan as launch Pad are you going to fit
in a reference to this weekend's Texans Chargers Tilt.

Speaker 5 (01:27:14):
Well, if something happens of consequence between five and five thirty,
like a seventh head coaching job becomes open or something
else of note, I'll probably sneak it in after.

Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Practice or something horrible, and god forbid, I would.

Speaker 5 (01:27:30):
Yes, I will probably mention that maybe the same will happen.
I mean they will be playing at the same time
on Saturday. Rockets tip off a little bit earlier, there's
a lot going on, and then the Texans kick off
a little bit later, but both in the afternoon, so
we'll have all that covered for you, but probably goes
straight into launch Pad straight up at five. You've got

(01:27:50):
network coverage beginning at five thirty with a Rockets countdown
and you an MT with the call Whiz and Rockets
coming up at six p m.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
It's going to be amazing in DC tonight and I
believe me.

Speaker 5 (01:28:02):
The one trip there for the Rockets and no jokes
unless they meet in the playoffs. So bad they are
as their record indicates their thirtieth in the league record
wise and thirtieth in the league and some rather important
team defining categories, and hopefully the Rockets play that way
and just go ahead and make it a night where

(01:28:23):
they're remaining games of this road trip, they can have
some rested players. There's still two people down, probably Tar
Eastan's not yet ruled out tonight, but he would be
missing his tenth consecutive game, and Jabari Smith Junior will
continue to be out with the broken finger. We went
into the break and noted that the Texans availability today
just wrapped up with the coach ongoing with the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:28:43):
We obviously gave you a little bit of what Rex.

Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
Ryan, the television analyst, had to say earlier today about
the Chargers going into the postseason off an eleven to
six year off of a victory over the Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (01:28:55):
Raiders one whole win more than the Texans this season yep,
bye week and not a division championship.

Speaker 5 (01:29:01):
They only missed out on that by four games to
a team that only played sixteen games. They didn't try
in game seventeen or else, but in a five game gap.
How many times did they beat the Chiefs this year?
The same number as the Texans. Okay, nunts, good to
know Rex. He also made some comments about he's clearly
the best candidate and by name called out another candidate.

Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
So Rex is just rare form, just the best.

Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
But he made a comment about the Texans being a
bi level opponent, an off week level opponent for the Chargers,
who will waltz into the final four of the AFC
as the fifth seeded team, the top rated wild card
team with their Hall of Fame quarterback Justin Herbert Demiko
Ryans meeting with the media just a little bit of
go this obviously long after Rex yesterday said that, Yes,

(01:29:50):
Dimiko was asked about this, Yes, he had a response.

Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
Here's what he said.

Speaker 11 (01:29:54):
It doesn't matter if anybody gives us a shy It
really doesn't matter to me. At the end of the day,
when the ball is kicked off who's the best football
team right on Saturday? And that's where our focus is
on playing really good football. Everybody have an opinion about
us one way or the other, but outside opinion really
doesn't drive what we do here internally, Like our guys

(01:30:16):
put the work in. They know what we're about. We
know what we're about, so it really doesn't matter to
me on all the outside noise.

Speaker 5 (01:30:24):
The expected response from the very measured Demiico ryans coming
from a television analyst, former coach, but not coming from
a current player or a member of the Chargers or
they're head coach, that even to Demico might have elicited
a more Well, well, we'll note that. I mean, I've

(01:30:45):
got whiteboards here, We've got a bulletin board right outside
my office. If he wants to turn the clock back
to years when people had bulletin boards, he might take
that route. If that was where the comment came from,
and it still could. Today's only Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
Can you recall a few segments ago what I said
about Demiko Ryan's as it pertains to his.

Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
He said anything at the podium that you've frowned upon, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:31:05):
Like I've agreed with at least if not, he's what
he's saying, then how he has handled himself in those
settings from day one when he walked through the lobby
in that suit and had the pep rally for him.

Speaker 5 (01:31:17):
Yeah, if you could, Dan, could you fire Themico? Ryan's
response off again, and I'll indicate when we've.

Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Heard enough, it doesn't matter. That's right there, It doesn't matter.
Now let's take that aside and let.

Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
Him say it doesn't matter. Will he said it doesn't matter?

Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
You remember the weirdest part of the movie Ghost, Don't
where I'm going somewhere with this?

Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
Well again?

Speaker 5 (01:31:39):
A second current reference to a television show, pop culture Jeopardy.

Speaker 2 (01:31:44):
They had an entire category on Odame Brown on Whoopi Goldberg?
Right naturally, one of the answers was what is Ghost?
What was the senior referencing here? She's involved in it? Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:31:56):
You remember when she's at Molly's apartment, okay, and she
and Sam want to touch each other again, There's only
one way to do that for Sam. He's got to
use Oda May's body and then it, you know, exhausts
her after she does that. Right, you know the part
I'm talking about?

Speaker 8 (01:32:13):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
What if? Yes? What if I'll be Sam and Demico.

Speaker 5 (01:32:19):
By the way, Sam is played by Patrick Swayze, the
late Patrick Swayze of Houston and late in the movie
as well, he was not alive at the.

Speaker 3 (01:32:26):
Time, but still around on this mortal coil. Okay, go ahead,
So uh, I'll be Sam and Demico will be Oda.
Mae Brown. You get where I'm going with this. I'm
going to overtake the answers way of thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:32:40):
What have you of? Demico?

Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
Ryans at the podium when asked about Rex Ryan. You
know what I would say, not what he said. What
would you say? Guy didn't even coach anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:32:50):
He's on TV with his foot fetish about his wife
talking about our football team having a bye week.

Speaker 3 (01:32:55):
Get the bleep out of here with that. Rex, You're
not going to coach the Jets. And that's how bad
you are. You can't even get a job within the
second time around, and they're terrible right now, That's what
I would say.

Speaker 5 (01:33:06):
That seems a very reasonable measured response.

Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
Sometimes I wish I were a head coach, not for
the actual x's and o's, but so that I could
just like address some of the dumbest things that these
guys are asked about, or just you know, the dumb
people that ask them at times. Not anybody in particular
I'm talking about here in Houston, just in general.

Speaker 5 (01:33:26):
I mean, he could have said, you know, I hope
he gets interviews speaking of Rex all over the place.
I mean, heck, Jacksonville has an opening, Vegas has an opening.
I hope he gets one of those jobs so he
can kick his behind next year. I mean, but he
said what I think from his heart.

Speaker 2 (01:33:45):
That is.

Speaker 5 (01:33:45):
You remember, now we got to take in about his
word at the podium, but then we can guess what
he really says behind closed doors.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
I don't think it's different in this case.

Speaker 5 (01:33:55):
He might use Rex in a group because, as I
noted in our sho tweet today, the Texans are going
to be picked to win.

Speaker 2 (01:34:03):
This game by probably nobody.

Speaker 5 (01:34:04):
When we get to Saturday's pregame shows or Friday's yellfests
on television and they put up their graphics of who
they're picking, it'll be a series of Chargers logos all
plastered up everywhere, possibly at one approval rating. For the
Chargers to win, it is they might use that the
team the player like players might give a different answer yeah,

(01:34:25):
the coach is going to, I think, treat it, certainly
publicly as a humongous, delicious, tasty nothing burger.

Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
A couple of things as it pertains to what you
just said.

Speaker 3 (01:34:37):
First of all, does that surprise you given that they're
not even by far the worst dog this weekend at home?

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Especially? I mean it's only two and a half, right,
it's yes, two and a half. Yeas, aren't their bigger
favorites this weekend? Not at home?

Speaker 5 (01:34:52):
I mean yes, but those teams are all at home.

Speaker 2 (01:34:54):
So they're the only team that's not favorite at home,
is what you're saying.

Speaker 5 (01:34:56):
Well, the Vikings are favored on the road as well. Okay,
against the Rams by less well one and a half.
I believe it was one and a half last I
looked against the Rams. They are coming off a pretty
poor performance. It's still one and a half. Yes, yeah,
they're only just so everybody knows. Bucks at home against
the Commies, they are three point favorites. Eagles at home
for Jordan Love and the Packers. Jordan says, I'll play

(01:35:19):
eagless rookie quarterback bow Knicks. Longtime excellent NFL head coach
Sean Payton on the Road in Buffalo. They are eight
and a half point underdogs, a Buffalo favorite at home
by eight and a half largest favorites of the weekend,
very unsurprising. At home against the Steelers, your Ravens are
nine and a half point favorites.

Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
Okay. The other thing is if there were to be
a member of the Texans locker room that you had
to guess, without a shadow of a doubt, would give
said different response than how Demico handled that. I have
one name of mind. You hopefully have the same one.

Speaker 3 (01:35:54):
Yeah, you go down the line, you ask, let's just
say the ones that would be more want to.

Speaker 2 (01:35:59):
Do availability and be good at it. On top of that,
there's only one name that comes to mind, right, Uh.

Speaker 5 (01:36:05):
I mean there's probably more than one, but it's probably
the only one that won the award for being the
best Texan to deal with.

Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
From a media standpoint in the.

Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
Year, Joe Mixon would eviscerate Rex Ryan if ask about this.
I think, well, he.

Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
Will get asked about it around six point fifty seven
when the locker room opens and the Texans are advancing.

Speaker 2 (01:36:26):
You are so sure of this. If that happens, oh okay, Okay,
he might get.

Speaker 5 (01:36:30):
Asked about it during the week, and again the locker
room will open up a little bit with the CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
Stroud meeting with the media.

Speaker 5 (01:36:35):
It opens up today at that point in time, so
hopefully we'll get a little bit of an idea of
if anybody has a response. It's absolutely a question that
should be asked by just about anybody who is available
to be interviewed today.

Speaker 3 (01:36:47):
More thing, if the Texans win this game, does the
Miko's postgame speech conclude with let's go get a bleepity
bleep snack.

Speaker 5 (01:36:57):
No, unfortunately it won't. He's not gonna take the Lord.
I'm trying to run through the Texans postseason coaches and
see if they might have done it differently. There have
only been two before Demiko. Gary probably wouldn't even know
whatever aired on Hard Knocks.

Speaker 2 (01:37:14):
I don't even know what that is. Was it What's TV?

Speaker 5 (01:37:17):
Bill would because he and or his staff would make
sure that he did, because he had rabbit ears, so
he would know about the snack. He would know about
Let's say Rex Ryan had said Texas they got no chance,
they got no chance at all winning this weekend with
that brock oswa are you kidding me of course, Connor
Cook and the Raiders can beat that horrible outfit there,
and he's by week for Connor, he would know that

(01:37:39):
going in, and so he might take the bait.

Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
And he knew about me. I was shocked, and he
probably would enjoy it.

Speaker 5 (01:37:45):
He I do think he Well, he's not trying to
be unfriendly with other head coaches who he eventually might
work with and or for. And that's kind of the
nature of the business. When coaches go at each other
like Sean Payton did recently, most everybody kind of, you know,
cut his head off for it.

Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
It's not something you normally do. But this is an
ex head coach who sits into TV booth. I think
Bill would have done it. Jack v. Dwight. Those are
two Those are that's different. Those are knuckleheads.

Speaker 5 (01:38:13):
Well, they're players, They're not running anybody's outfit.

Speaker 3 (01:38:16):
Well, I was just two guys that had the same
profession having a war of words in a public forum.

Speaker 2 (01:38:21):
That's what I was going with, all right.

Speaker 3 (01:38:22):
The eight team continues here on Sports Talks seven ninety
What did CJ. Stroud have to say about the Chargers
and this weekend's playoff matchup?

Speaker 2 (01:38:30):
We will get to that quickly.

Speaker 1 (01:38:34):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety back to Adam
Clinton and Adam Wexler, the.

Speaker 3 (01:38:43):
Eighteen eight team rolling along here on Sports Talks seven
ninety Space City Home Network, wex and AC with you.
On a Tuesday ndition, the program mentioned that CJ. Stroud
just concluded his presser, his media availability and anticipation of

(01:39:06):
this game between he and a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
Yeah, properly attired. He had a ski cap on. It's
very cold here in the h they were outside practicing.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Did it have a logo on it? Texans logo? H
That's what I figured.

Speaker 5 (01:39:18):
He had a few things to say. We'll save this
for probably Thursday or Friday. When he was asked about
the Cotton Bowl and his teammate playing against his team.

Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
I knew this was coming up with.

Speaker 5 (01:39:33):
Yours former Ohio State quarterback who he knows well. And
Quinn also this week in his media veil, mentioned his
recent conversation and some of the things he talked about.

Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
With Simon the first time this week that CJ has
been asked about and spoken about another quarterback. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:39:52):
The timing of the Texans game and the close of
the Panthers game allowed Bryce Young to be asked about
out what CJ. Stroud just said just hours earlier about
him in his own post game. But they obviously keep
in touch and are very keen on each career. Probably
will lead me to a text exchange I had with

(01:40:13):
the biggest needler outside of this studio for me in
my life from a sports standpoint.

Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Your brother, Seth, No, this is from those fools.

Speaker 8 (01:40:22):
What up, Seth?

Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
What up?

Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
Seth?

Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
Did you tell? Seth? I said, what up? He's not
an entourage.

Speaker 5 (01:40:30):
These are the clowns I went to college with and
found themselves as Mass fans and Spurs fans and Longhorn
fans and sports fans.

Speaker 2 (01:40:37):
I would fight with, like all of them. It sounds like,
well this this is a pretty good one. But anyway,
so CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:40:43):
Stroud, we'll get to that a little bit later this
week because it's more pertinent to that particular Friday tilt
at the Cotton Bowl the simple stuff today. Somebody by
name that Demiko Ryan spoke about quite a bit on
Monday on the Chargers defense, not on the front end
but on the back end. Who plays like he's on
the front end.

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Well.

Speaker 8 (01:41:03):
C J.

Speaker 5 (01:41:03):
Stroud similarly had a lot to say in a good
way for who the player is in a bad way
for the Texans to combat him and his defense on
Derwin James.

Speaker 12 (01:41:13):
Yeah, you know Derwin you know, jumps off phone. My
thing he's having is almost his best year of his career,
you know, rushing quarterback, playing in Nicols safety, you know,
doing doing great in coverage, you know. So yeah, he's
definitely you know, I feel like one of the best
players on the team, along with with Bosa and Calobe
Mack and you know, Deyon who is one of my friends,

(01:41:34):
is playing really well as well, you know, and then
they have a good back end. But the d line
as well, really good. So I mean all around, they're
really good. So you know, but that's what the playoffs
are is, you know, their best verus our best, and
got to do our best to you know, handle what
they're gonna do and play hard and you know, try
to execute every play as best as we can.

Speaker 3 (01:41:53):
Try to execute every play against the Chargers defense, and
try to do so with what could best be described
considering injuries and just lack of talent, which is makeshift
too strong of a word to talk about the Texans
offensive line. I mean, I know that sounds like that.

Speaker 5 (01:42:12):
I started the year with Laramie Tunsel at tackle, somebody
else at guard, somebody else at center, somebody else at
the other guard, and somebody else at tackle, So I
think makeshift fits.

Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Okay, So Titus Howard, who you've mentioned just yesterday, moving
to the guard position, albeit not his favorite place to be,
but he's always on the move, which is part of
the problem. CJ was asked or spoke on that subject
because again, the guard play has been probably the achilles
heel of the achilles heel in general of this team,

(01:42:43):
that being the offensive line as a unit.

Speaker 2 (01:42:46):
This was CJ on Titus at guard.

Speaker 12 (01:42:48):
Yeah, you know, he's been able to do a great
job in there and holding his own you know, definitely
just being a being just a comfort blank he you know,
I knowing that he's gonna do his job every time
and just have that interior lockdown or you know, the
interior structure like it's kind of like a wall, you know,
those three interior guys. So you know, it's definitely helpful

(01:43:08):
having him in there. I'm just you know, happy that
you know, he's happy doing it, and you know, I'm
proud of him. That he, you know, is that type
of guy for the team is to go in there
even though he's his natural positions tackle, you know, but
to go in there and have success has been really
awesome to watch.

Speaker 3 (01:43:22):
Okay, I know I have been wearing out the Bingo
card reference here in the new year, and really a
couple of weeks before that, I did not, I repeat,
did not have CJ. Stroud calling any member but particularly
a member of that offensive line playing the guard position
a quote comfort blanket on my Beingo card going into

(01:43:45):
the opening round of the playoffs. You know, my son has,
and it's not as prevalent now he's six and a half,
so you know, these things fade with time and age.
He had rankings of his blankets that he liked. He
had several very soft blankets, and he would rank them.
I need number one. Where's number one? I can't sleep
without number one. I would not equival. I would not

(01:44:08):
equate number one, which was a very soft blanket. He
was very on point about this with Titus Howard on
that offensive line.

Speaker 5 (01:44:18):
So let me ask a couple very important questions about
the blankets. Okay, so they're essentially not ranked by looks,
but merely softness. Feel, yes, feel okay, So a soft blanket,
that's the one I want, the softest, most comfortable.

Speaker 2 (01:44:33):
I want that one that's really fresh out of the dryer. Washet.

Speaker 5 (01:44:37):
So if you and Tea also had in the closet,
the hall closet where you keep the additional blankets, there.

Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
Were his bottom drawer in this case.

Speaker 5 (01:44:46):
Okay, there'd be additional older blankets that some of this
softness wasn't quite there anymore. And on in the back
of this bottom drawer there would be sand paper. He
would probably rank the sandpaper blanket last.

Speaker 2 (01:45:01):
That's Kenyon Green. That's mean, isn't it. That's pretty mean,
isn't it?

Speaker 10 (01:45:06):
For me?

Speaker 5 (01:45:07):
I can appreciate where you thought I was taking you,
because you're correct.

Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
I was talking about them in general. I was necessarily
going to say by name, But that is it.

Speaker 5 (01:45:17):
Interestingly, I crushed Amy Adams Strunk for saying the completely
unnecessary personal stuff out loud in her statement about the
Jackets fire. Yes, well, I don't know if it's accurate.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
Why are they better than they were? No, that's what
she said in the opening line of the statement, So
that is accurate.

Speaker 5 (01:45:37):
They had a losing season, with Rabel, followed by a
losing season with Rabel, followed by far fewer wins and
a losing season this past year.

Speaker 2 (01:45:46):
Impossible to ignore. Our football team hasn't improved over the
past two years. That's as black and white as it gets.

Speaker 5 (01:45:51):
That is correct, as you like to discuss when we
talk about the CJ regression angle. Yeah, but why but
come on, the five guys in front of him, No,
come on, give.

Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
Me something I would give you. How are they supposed
to improve? You're still playing awful quarterbacks. Awful.

Speaker 5 (01:46:11):
It's a miracle they weren't worse.

Speaker 2 (01:46:13):
With Rabel, but it's not who they like.

Speaker 5 (01:46:17):
I would make the point that, yeah, we got worse
because Rabel's a better coach than Brian Callahan, who was
also dealing with the same problem of trying to play
Will Levis and Mason Rudolph and thinking we could win games.
But yes, what CJ is essentially saying it without getting
after his current teammates, none of whom will play in

(01:46:38):
this game barring injury. M we me are in a
better place. I feel better about who we have. He's
only seen this group together for one game. He's only
seen Titus Howard now for a couple of games at
this current position. But he's the one who knows better
than I do, better than you do, better than PFF does.
Of course, this is the best group he's had so

(01:47:00):
far this year, and it has gotten better now twice
because the two starting guards at the beginning of the
year have both now been replaced. And I think you
could argue the guard or the center at the beginning
of the year was worse than the current center. Cheus
Scruggs is still playing, but at a position I think
he may hurt the team less. And you know, I'm
not a huge believer in some of the grades that

(01:47:22):
we see. I do like run, stop, win raid and
you know, pass block, win rate. I'm very much on those.
We'll share those with you coming up later this hour
at four forty five. But since moving to guard this year,
these are the best tightest Howard guard grades he's produced
as an interior aligneman. Not that they're awesome, but they're

(01:47:44):
much better than they've been in previous serviceable. Can you
please move back inside. We don't have anybody else. Can
you please play here? This guy can only play tackle
and we don't have any other alternatives.

Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
But can't play this guy guards. You have to do it.
You're making a joke.

Speaker 3 (01:47:57):
But like if he were to verbalize that, he would
be well in his rights to and he would know
better than anybody. Wow, you guys really can't feel a
good offensive line because you keep asking me to play
out a position.

Speaker 4 (01:48:08):
Right.

Speaker 5 (01:48:08):
They paid him to play tackle and they are once
again forcing for their own hand to play him at guard.
And I think there's a little bit of extra plaudits
that should go on his ledger. They played to Andre
Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons and he played for a half,
and I think they did a good job. That's a
pretty good and certainly huge defensive interior. You know, the

(01:48:29):
Chiefs games falls within this time. The Baltimore Ravens game
falls within that time. They did a job that you know,
I know, they didn't do anything against Baltimore offensively. I
don't really think it was one hundred percent. And I
said this the Thursday and Friday after the game.

Speaker 2 (01:48:44):
It wasn't.

Speaker 5 (01:48:44):
Oh my god, another disastrous day for their offensive line.
They have gotten a little bit away from that. They're
not one of the best lines. They're definitely one of
the worst in the postseason. But you don't have to
be the best if some other areas of your team
are and some other areas of their team are and
the one area that they've gone backwards on this year
so significantly their quarterback play. Well, it doesn't fully wholly

(01:49:09):
get remedied one week after another by getting good offensive
line play.

Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
But TJ.

Speaker 5 (01:49:14):
Strout has time to throw against the Chargers, they can
win this football game.

Speaker 2 (01:49:17):
If CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:49:18):
Strout has time to go through progressions against the Chargers,
they can move the football.

Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
That's what has to happen to give them a chance
to win.

Speaker 5 (01:49:24):
And a few other things, but that's the most notable
thing that has to happen in this game, which maybe
what they've done with this change in line could produce
that more from CJ. Tough year, he believes, So he'll
talk about his Texans next.

Speaker 7 (01:49:38):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (01:49:43):
Hey, it's Robert Ford from the Astros broadcast team. Catch
every Astros game on Sports Talk seven ninety and the
iHeartRadio app Home of your Astros.

Speaker 1 (01:49:55):
This is Adam and Adam sweekly chunked through mind buckling
almost that make you.

Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
Go, hey, what what taig?

Speaker 4 (01:50:08):
What is here?

Speaker 6 (01:50:09):
No, what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
On a Tuesday pray what O daan I dare you
now say?

Speaker 7 (01:50:16):
What?

Speaker 5 (01:50:18):
Signature segment time here on the A team Tuesdays. That means,
as you heard say what we do have something to
give you from an event last night, but wanted to
start you off with this announcing teams for the games
this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Wild Card Weekend announced.

Speaker 5 (01:50:37):
Uh, we should be talking with the analyst on the
CBS side four o'clock on Thursday. That's Charles Davis Iron Eagle,
a veteran of Texans football. He's done quite a few
of their games, as has Charles and Evan washburn is
on the sidelines. Or you could listen to Sandy Dylan, Patrick,
Bob and Nate on the alternate broadcast, Nate doing the

(01:50:57):
play by play on Nickelodeon, Nate Burlson on the play
by play. Bob, of course, is SpongeBob, pat Is, Patrick Starr,
Dylan Schefter is related to Adam Schefter Schefty and Sandy
Cheeks also on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (01:51:18):
I'm seriously asking you when I say this, why do
we do this?

Speaker 5 (01:51:22):
Because no way, my kids, your kids are anybody else's
kids would ever even dream of growing up watching NFL
football and television unless it was presented Nicolas.

Speaker 3 (01:51:35):
Okay, in all seriousness, like last night, Carson was looking
at his idiot box is what I call it, the
screen in front of him iPad and managed to look
up from it to notice, Oh, look, ras On and Cody.
You know, Cody Rhodes is part of things like he

(01:51:56):
in the Rock came out all this.

Speaker 2 (01:51:58):
Friend of the Texans, Cody Rhodes. Yes, yes, that's true.

Speaker 5 (01:52:02):
Actually, and you know it was the guy with the
gold hair.

Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
Yeah, okay, Well he didn't used to have it. What
did He used to have dark hair and he was
known as Stardust. What happened to him?

Speaker 3 (01:52:14):
It was a bad character, and he changed so that
he wouldn't fail as a personality.

Speaker 5 (01:52:18):
I know we have some audio. This is say what
this is radio and TV, so we need to get
to it. Yeah, but aren't you fascinated like I am,
how there's such a small pool of perfectly chiseled athletic
performers that they stick with the same one and just
that didn't work. Let's try an a different character. They

(01:52:39):
don't just say we can't have you. It's not your fault.

Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
It's not you. It's me.

Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
You can perform well, you're nice, you look great, you do,
but the character's not working. So we're gonna move on,
and we're gonna hire a different person that looks almost
exactly like you, that's worked out almost exactly as well
as you, that has almost exactly the same number of
abs as you, that is almost exactly as desirable were
whomever the audiences were trying to get, and is great
on camera. No, no, no, never mind, We're not gonna

(01:53:05):
do that. We're just gonna give you a new name
and we'll dress you up differently.

Speaker 3 (01:53:07):
Both of those things happen all the time. Its funny
you should mention that sense. That's exactly what happened to
Steve Williams as Doctor Death No different One. Eric Bischoff
fired him via FedEx and oh, do you have to
sign for this? You're firing?

Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
Sure? Sign away.

Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
After a brief stop at ECW at the time, he
then moved on to what was then known as the
World Wrestling Federation, where one of the names that Vince
McMahon wanted to give to him was Frost mcfang among
a list of awful names, and he told his wife
at the time. Hey, I cannot think of a name.

(01:53:46):
The ring Master's not doing it for me, but I
gotta come up with a gimmick. And she said, you'll
think of something. You'd better drink that tea I made
you until unless it goes stone cold. And then he said,
I got it. I'm gonna start flipping off my Austin
call myself stone cold, Steve Austin.

Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
So history all right, So speaking of wrestlers.

Speaker 5 (01:54:06):
We had some raw commentary in this signature segment yesterday
with the mizz Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:54:12):
So you know, somebody asked last night on on X
if I was going to give a recap, and.

Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
I don't know it's watched.

Speaker 3 (01:54:20):
Yeah, I didn't watch the entire thing, like with complete attention.

Speaker 5 (01:54:27):
The first phone I'm watching raw, well kind of it was.

Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
At the dinner table, but we are all kind of
watching it because there's a big deal. It's on Netflix.

Speaker 3 (01:54:34):
First time in a long time, well ever that this happened,
but first time in a long time that it was
a different venue bringing you this longest running.

Speaker 2 (01:54:43):
Episodic weekly television. I mean even the Simpsons take the
summer off, right, they don't in wrestling. Ever, So it's
been since nineteen. It was actually almost to the date.

Speaker 3 (01:54:53):
It was January eleventh, ninety three, was the first ever episode.
This one was obviously far bigger, far far far reaching,
far more far reaching, I guess I should say. And
you know, they were pulling out all the stops. Great
introduction video which I had seen earlier in the day.
Just absolutely fantastic what the WW creative team puts together.

(01:55:16):
And then Triple H came out to you know, start
the show, and then the rock comes out.

Speaker 2 (01:55:19):
I mean, they're pulling all the stops.

Speaker 3 (01:55:20):
It was great, and you know, it was also a
typical show with some matches that had been pre promised,
if you will. But then they started to bring out,
you know, some of the greats, you know, the legends,
if you will. Stephanie McMahon even made an appearance, and
lots of comments were made about her old man even

(01:55:41):
though it weren't for him, you wouldn't have this situation,
even though he might have done some bad things too,
might have Yeah, speaking of a guy that's done some
bad things.

Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
Haul Cogan came out and.

Speaker 3 (01:55:53):
That didn't go very well, as it pertains to the
crowd that was on hand there at the end to
it Dome in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (01:56:00):
Greatest part of my life was being part of Aren't
this great? Tapia Tapia?

Speaker 9 (01:56:05):
Guys?

Speaker 8 (01:56:08):
Yo.

Speaker 13 (01:56:09):
I've had all.

Speaker 4 (01:56:09):
Kind of tag team partners over the years, but you're
the fans have been my greatest tag team partner because
you guys have stuck with me.

Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
You're picking thing, dudes.

Speaker 5 (01:56:22):
It doesn't sound like he was received very well. No,
that was That was hull Koga.

Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
That was Terry. That was Terry Bolea.

Speaker 5 (01:56:29):
That's the most famous wrestler ever, right, yeah, of the
Golden Era, of any era.

Speaker 2 (01:56:35):
Yeah, he's probably most well, most famous. Yeah, so he
was booed. Why, well, that was the thing.

Speaker 3 (01:56:41):
At first I thought maybe he had to do with
the fact that they were smack dab in the middle
of California in Los Angeles, and the guy in question
on the microphone, you know, spoke at the Republican National
Convention for Donald Trump.

Speaker 2 (01:56:54):
So it was just a political thing. And I think
a lot of people thought that initially as well. But
as I kind of was just all right, let me
super pair was saying that about this on social media.
I think, and I could be wrong, maybe that was
something to do with it, but I think it had
more to do with the fact that just time after
time after time, this guy's just done some really crappy

(01:57:17):
things to other human beings and they just are done
with him. And I'll admit I didn't think he was
going to get that kind of reception, but it doesn't
surprise me.

Speaker 5 (01:57:30):
So if I could, Yeah, this is a legend they
brought back for this event. What and his beer legend?
Could they have brought back? It's the guy where we
were just talking about that would have gotten the greatest reception, the.

Speaker 2 (01:57:45):
Guy we just mentioned.

Speaker 3 (01:57:47):
And I don't know if it was a scheduling thing,
if it couldn't have been a money thing, because they
have more money than they know what to do with.

Speaker 5 (01:57:53):
Now. Sena was there last night.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
He's making his last run this year and he's last
run at what this the belt?

Speaker 3 (01:58:02):
This like wrestling. He's like, I'll be an ambassador, but
I'll be wearing a Suason actor. Well, yeah, they all are,
but they're also athletes. He's also in movie. But no,
if stone Cold had walked out last night.

Speaker 5 (01:58:14):
Oh so stone Cold more than either the Rock or Johnson.

Speaker 2 (01:58:17):
And by the way, real quick on the on the
whole thing, why were they booing him. The reason I
think that they didn't boo the Undertaker, and he's a
big time Trump supporter, so just just saying that might
have had something to do with it is We continue
here on a Tuesday edition of The A Team. More
from the Texans Today. Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (01:58:35):
The A Team on Sports Talk seven ninety. Back to
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler. The A Team on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:58:54):
Texans and Chargers were a little bit closer to the
final product for this season. For one of these two teams,
you're gonna hear more about a awesome the Chargers defenses,
because everybody's gonna run out there. Man there, you just
can't put any points up on the board against them.
They are the number one defense in the NFL based
on points allowed. They give up the fewest points. That's fine,

(01:59:18):
go ahead, trot that out there.

Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
I don't mind.

Speaker 5 (01:59:20):
That's what you want to run with, Go right ahead,
as a very legitimate number to look at and base
your thoughts on how good that defense is. I'm not
even saying with as much sarcasm as it sounds like
I am, but are you sure there are other ways
to grade out defenses? A lot of other ways to
do so, and I think the Texans have shown to
be a pretty good defense this year. Yards per play

(01:59:44):
probably a pretty good way to do it. Texans are
fourth in the league. The Chargers also good, but not
in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (01:59:51):
They're close.

Speaker 5 (01:59:53):
Rushing yards per game or per play Texans are good,
and I wouldn't call them great. They're eleven, but eleventh
sounds a lot better than twenty seventh. That's where the
Chargers are. Rushing yards allowed per play noe. Your rushing
yards allowed per game can often be lowered by the

(02:00:14):
fact that the other team stinks, so they're losing, so
they're passing. So interestingly enough, the Chargers are awesome against
the pass, so what I said can still work as
a positive for the Chargers. They're fourth in the league
against the pass, also worse than the Texans, who are

(02:00:37):
second in the league against the pass. Based on yards
per play, sacks per pass attempt, Texans fourth, Chargers eighth,
third down conversion percentage. Okay, finally, Chargers better than Texans
their fifth Texans or seventh. Just so you know, the
Texans may be playing a very very good defense that's

(02:00:58):
extremely difficult to score on. The Chargers are playing at
least as good a defense, or arguably a better one,
despite the fact that a number that you're gonna hear
a ton about looks very good in their favor. I
mentioned the run stop pass rush win rate ratings earlier,
and we get to them at four forty five. Well,

(02:01:18):
it's four to forty nine. Time to get to them.
Number one in the NFL in edge edge rusher pass
rush win rate seasons. Now over, these are your final numbers.
Nick Cassario free agent signing daneil Hunter, number one in
the NFL best. In other words, five more players follow
before you see will Anderson Junior.

Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
He's seventh best.

Speaker 5 (02:01:40):
At least thirteen other players follow before you see any Chargers.
Because they only list the top twenty. None of them
are on it, none of them.

Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
Not one.

Speaker 5 (02:01:48):
They play eleven guys to start every game most NFL
teams do. Usually they have two edge rushers out there.
They're not on this list. I'm sure they're good players.
I mean, I've heard them, heard of them, had a
few sacks. They're good, But individually speaking, that's just not
very good at winning on the pass rush. Hat tip
to Laramie tunsl he vaulted into the top ten for

(02:02:09):
the season ending rankings. He'd been twelfth and thirteenth and
eighteenth much of the year, but at the end of
his season, despite his two fall starts, they don't have
anything to do with blocking guys, because the play is dead.
He was number ten in the NFL among tackles and
their pass block win rate rankings. But your bestie was fourth,

(02:02:29):
Joe Alt. He was unbelievably successful as a rookie tackle.
That is who Daniel Hunter, Will Anderson Junior and others,
Derek Barnett, who will be up up against at times
this Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (02:02:43):
You ready to get to the teams now?

Speaker 5 (02:02:45):
Things shook out for the Texans and the Chargers, both
on the O line and D line in terms of
pass rush and run stuff and run.

Speaker 2 (02:02:53):
Block and all that good stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:02:54):
Sure, Chargers offensively, their pass block win race and their
run block win rate there are eleventh to thirteenth in
those two categories. Okay, we'll get to the Texans in
a minute. Yeah, the Chargers from the defensive side, their
past what rush win rate mirrors the fact that neither
of their top guys are in the top They were

(02:03:14):
twenty second in the NFL. The Texans were first first
in the NFL pass rush win rate. They create more pressures,
they win more often than anybody else in the NFL.
That's what Hall of Fame quarterback Justin Herbert will be
up against Hall of Fame quarterback per non voter Rex Ryan.

(02:03:36):
The run stop win rate Chargers are even better there.
They were twenty second on the pass side, but stopping
the run seventh, very good, only five spots behind Houston,
who was second in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:03:49):
This just in we're in week nineteen.

Speaker 5 (02:03:52):
I've been talking about the twenty twenty four Texans defense
for nineteen weeks. They're very very, very very good. The
Texts do not block very well on the offensive line.
Twenty second in past block win rate, thirty first in
run block win rate.

Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
Doesn't surprise me?

Speaker 5 (02:04:11):
Is what you have been talking about for nineteen weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:04:14):
Well, that's the problem.

Speaker 3 (02:04:14):
I mean, you just gave a bunch of numbers that
should make me feel confident about the Texans having a
chance in this game.

Speaker 5 (02:04:22):
Do you want to at least hat tip the Patriots
since they at least were thirty second, to prevent the
Texans from being last. Thanks Patriots.

Speaker 2 (02:04:29):
I'll do it.

Speaker 3 (02:04:30):
Do I make a reference to three point shooting percentage
tonight and the fact that there is a small victory
for the Wizards coming in in that they are third
to last in the NBA, whereas the Rockets are second
to last.

Speaker 5 (02:04:41):
It's one of the categories few categories where the Whiz
aren't thirty out of thirty but exactly.

Speaker 3 (02:04:47):
But going back to this, I look's that's what's most
frustrating because all the other things, all the other numbers
where the Texans are ahead of the Chargers, and I
maybe that's why Vegas has made it closer than some
of these other teams.

Speaker 5 (02:05:02):
And let's try to continue to be fair. The Texans
finished their season playing the Colts twice, the Jags twice,
and the Titans twice. And the mirrored games, so to speak,
were the Chiefs twice, number one seed, the Broncos twice,
who they beat twice, the number seven seed, and the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
There is a difference, yeah, and that's why when people say, well,
the rest of their schedule as well.

Speaker 2 (02:05:26):
Yeah, But that's why when people say, well, the Chargers
are playing as well as any team out there right now,
and they're playing at the best time of year to
be playing their best football, and then you look at
the Texans Christmas Day. I mean, I guess the small
solace we should take is that they're not opening against
the Ravens coming here, which was that was a scenario
that was alive, albeit very convoluted. To get there.

Speaker 5 (02:05:49):
All Pittsburgh had to do was not lose every game
for a month.

Speaker 3 (02:05:52):
But they lost it them, I mean, which is why
you wanted them to come here. But ironically that's why
they're not here. So it's I like what the Texans
have defensively as a you know, as going up against
an offense like this. In other words, I don't worry
about oh man, they're gonna just gonna run up the scoreboard.

Speaker 2 (02:06:14):
I'm worried that they're going to get to CJ. And
it's not gonna matter what he wants to do because
he won't be allowed to, which is every time things
have gone wrong for the Texans this year, that's been
the number one concern.

Speaker 5 (02:06:27):
Fourteen teams headed to the postseason, Lions and Eagles. They
won ten of their last eleven. Chiefs, Vikings, and Bills.
They won nine of their last eleven, all five are
head of the postseason. Chargers, Rams, Ravens, Commis. They won
eight of their last eleven. They're all headed to the playoffs. Packers, Bengals, Seahawks, Broncos.

(02:06:49):
They won seven of their last eleven, went seven to four,
all but the Bengals and Seahawks in the playoffs. I
gotta go down a little bit further. There's the Steelers.
They want six of their last eleven, they want six
and five. Scroll down more. I think there's another playoff
team left. Oh, Texans five and six in their last eleven,
almost five hundred, Chargers eight and three down the stretch,

(02:07:11):
Texans five and six down the stretch, and you could
shorten it up and it would.

Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
Still be the same. Get out the stretch five and
one to start the year.

Speaker 5 (02:07:17):
It's not how you start, you think, well, the team
that they started with, ironically enough, had at least as
much about more O line issues, but they just didn't
win a lot of games to close out the season.
That's the team that's headed to the postseason. We're headed
into Rockets coverage next
