We're just over three weeks away from Opening Day for the Astros. The A-Team talks about just how much of a threat the Rangers or Mariners are to the Astros hold on the American League West. Yes, the Rangers made some moves to improve their team this offseason and maybe get them back to the postseason. But, are the Mariners in for a regression in a department that is supposed to be a strength for them?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
But I think why at Langford was trending more towards
being a twenty five one hundred ops plus one twenty
player than a Doulas Garcia.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
So what do you think like if he if he's
not right?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
For example, I mean, we know what they did a
few years back on the infield, if you will, spending
all that money and ended up looking like it was
going to pay off. You were convinced they were going
to be fantastic from there on. Now because they had
all that young talent coming up, have you adjusted your
expectations because if it's not the Astros winning the AO West,

(00:37):
I honestly don't know who has the inside track to
be the underwhelming AO West champion Between Seattle and Texas
just looking at their rosters right now.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Yeah, I would say Texas without any hesitation because I'm
just kind of a believer and you don't get lucky
with your pitching over and over and over again. I
think both cases had they had poorer offensive seasons than
the talent suggest that they should. The Mariners should not
be that bad offensively, and neither should the Rangers have
been this past year. If Singer and Simon are healthy,

(01:08):
if Josh Young is healthy. That's three really good hitters
to start with, and like you said, that's their infield.
That's pretty amazing. Well, Jake Berger's now added to that.
That's twenty five home runs. That's probably eighty rbids, even
if he doesn't have a great season. If he has
a great season, now you're looking at one of the
best off season ads of anyone. Pitching staff's clearly a
question because of injuries and other reasons, but it can

(01:30):
be very good. I just can't imagine the Mariners needing
only six starters for the second year in a row.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
But they were so good though.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, and they kept pitching every sixth day or every
five days, I should say, I just I don't envision
that happening back to back years with all five of
them basically never being hurt. And they also have some
incredible splits. I don't know how many people brought it up.
We brought it up here on the show. One of
the reasons why they look so good pitching wise is

(01:57):
because they basically pitch in the best pitchers park in
the majors. It's also why their offense looks so bad
because other pitchers come to Seattle and look great because
they're pitching in that ballpark. Seattle's pitchers pitching that ballpark,
so they look great. Then take them on the road,
go ahead, and add a run and a half to
the opponents, because that's about where their starter's era came

(02:19):
from in Seattle and went to when they weren't pitching
in Seattle the other eighty one games. They were one
of the many Major League teams to play eighty one
games on the road and at home. Last year, the
Astros were not. They got one extra day off so
they couldn't play the finale. I wouldn't bet on the
Mariners bouncing back offensively and repeating what they did pitching wise.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Plus their bullpen probably took a turn for the worse. Okay,
but they still have the best rotation in the ale?
Right is that fair to say?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Sure, I can't ignore that. I know what you're saying
about the offense they did last year too. I know
what happened.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Their offense sucked, But you just got done saying you
don't think it'll suck that much again.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yes, their offense will go up, in their pitching will
I don't think the pitching will be as good. Yeah,
I got you. I don't know it is the You
don't know who's going to finish. I really don't know
who's gonna finish.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Going to finish first, definitely think it's the Astros without
a shadow of a doubt. Okay, we shall see. I
want to have to wait too much longer. I just
I'm still on that Campsmith watch. That's my thing. I
want him to get to the big league's asap.
