Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam, raised by Earl Nolan and multifid the
magnificent roller coaster ride that is HoustonSports. Chill lhdown for the only home
(00:25):
grown afternoon team is Talking Your Teams. Adam Clinton and Adam Wexford are the
A Team A. It's a Tuesdayedition of the A Team here on Sports
(00:52):
Talk seven ninety and about the nicestthing I can say about the last twenty
four hours is that it was equallyas crazy in the sports world as the
twenty four that preceded it for avariety of reasons. We'll start locally because
we the next run the Astros scorewill also be the next run that they've
scored or the first run that they'vescored in the last two days after they
(01:15):
somehow found a way to get blankedby the Oakland A's, and six of
those innings were of no hit variety. So that was fun last night,
but not nearly as fun as itwas for New York Jets fans. I
don't think I've ever seen an injuryas quickly in the NFL of a marquee
player in my entire life, asI saw four snaps into the Jets season
(01:40):
in a game they won against aSuper Bowl contender or at least would be
contender in the Buffalo Bills. Butyeah, if you're keeping track at home,
one of the worst teams in themajors, the Oakland A's came in
and beat the crap out of theAstros last night. There's no other way
around it, because they looked likethey rolled over and died in every facet
Fromber had double digit strikeouts, bythe way, and no run support.
(02:04):
And then the Jet season basically endedbefore it began. Yeah, I would,
let's see, I mean, howmany things can I disagree on?
The Jet season obviously isn't over.Yeah, okay, Uh, the Astros
just didn't hit. There's nothing wrongwith the way they pitched. For Amber
if he keeps pitching likes that, and I think that what we saw last
night, granted they're gonna be playinga lot better offense, is than that.
(02:27):
I think that's what we're gonna seefrom Framber in the postseason. He
clearly had his best stuff and hestill couldn't spend dominant shutout baseball, which
he's done on occasion, and hislast four starts have all been quality starts
and all been good, and allbeen the Astros should win those games.
But you know, a solo homerhere, a solo homer year here,
and anywhere, they string together acouple of hits, and on a day
where your offense isn't gonna score, sometimes you just think, let's get a
(02:51):
little bit more out of our ace. But that is an ace like performance
come the postseason that I expect toget just didn't matter yesterday because the Astros
just simply working to get any hitswung. A lot of first pitches,
were super aggressive after the first inning, and every once in a while,
even with a team that's been justcrushing the ball and scoring runs a mile
a minute best offense and baseball forbetter than two months, after that first
(03:13):
inning, it just seemed like thatwas a real opportunity just to go ahead
and end the game on the positiveside. And with two runners on and
only one out, Clearly, theheart of your order is always up when
you're the Astros, and they justcouldn't push one across. And then they
really just didn't have much of anopportunity to do so, because, like
I said, very aggressive with boththe final inning for the starter and then
all of the innings for Waldechuk.I think he deserves a lot more credit
(03:36):
than he's getting because he was absolutelyhitting his spots. It was black black,
black, black black the entire fiveinning stint for him, and they
were off balanced the whole time.He did a fantastic job and he just
hasn't pitched like that very much thisyear. So you kicked one, you
let one get away because the A'swere on the other side. And then
there's only so many games left. You've played them eleven times, you've beaten
(03:58):
them nine times. It's probably aboutwhat you could expect, even for a
team that's about to lose their hundredthgame of the season. There's four teams
in the race for these three spots, the division championship and the two wildcard
spots that this division hopes to claimthree overall. Obviously, Tampa has one
of them, and the you know, with Toronto and Texas playing one another,
(04:19):
three teams can lose. One team'sdown to win, and that's what
happened last night. Now, theRangers beat the Blue Jays, so the
Blue Jays lost, the Astros lost, and the Mariners at home lost to
the Angels. And the Angels reallydon't have any players left. It's amazing
that they were able to put eightruns on the board, though five of
them came in the two extra inningsthey played yesterday. So the division lead
(04:44):
did change. It didn't change interms of how far back Seattle is.
It changed in terms of they're nowbehind Texas by that half game, Texas
is two games behind Houston. Obviously, Houston has the tiebreaker over the Rangers.
They do not have the tiebreaker overthe Mariners. Should set up of
these teams tie It's again, it'sit's nothing different today than it was the
day before. They managed to winthe series against the Padres after losing the
(05:08):
opener, and I suspect they willdo the same come late Wednesday evening when
the Oakland As say goodbye to theAstros for the remainder of the season,
that they will have taken care ofthe necessary business. Well, we didn't
think they were going to sweep thesenine games over the next twelve they had
against Oakland in Kansas City, Butcorrect, I kind of did. Why
(05:30):
because they suck? And I'm sorry, you're like talking about giving credit where
it's due, and that's fine forone night. Yeah, that's all it
is. One night, all right, that's all the crety he gets then,
because if he was that good,we'll see him again. But that's
the thing, like you're talking aboutthe Astros pitching versus hitting, they're gonna
see, you know, better pitchingin the post. That's not what I'm
saying at all. I'm just sayingon any given night, That's why baseball
is so ridiculous. It really is. That's the word. If the Jets
(05:54):
want to be like a baseball team, well, four days from now,
they're going to be starting some guywho's place high school football. If you
know the difference in your starting pitcherson on a football team, there isn't
any I just can't the same startingpitcher every game, I know, but
I just this offense right now,not this offense in July or this offense
you know, of the same guys, and in a lot of senses,
(06:15):
even though there's been some injuries, just the way they've been playing, it's
it was the most twenty twenty threeloss ever, Like the Oakland a suck.
The pictures that they faced last nightsuck. And you couldn't even probably
pretty good. He just hadn't beenhealthy enough this year. He's probably their
best hope for the future. Butyeah, you you only faced him for
two innings and wald Chuck's had toomany outings where everybody's hit him. The
(06:39):
Astros are no different. They havetwo but you're gonna play them thirteen times
this year. They're gonna lose onehundred and five one hundred and eight games
this year. Well, they're alsogoing to win fifty fits. Well.
The thing is Oakland's now beaten Houstontwice. It's it happens sweeping a team
even though it's now no longer nineteengames, no matter how poorly they are
(07:00):
going to play, or how poorlyoutfit that they are from a talent standpoint,
it's just it's almost impossible to takean entire season series from anybody Oakland
within the division this year, theybeat the Rangers four times. They beat
the Angels five times and still havethree games remaining. Last night they were
one and nine against Houston, nowtwo and nine and Seattle they've only beaten
(07:25):
them once. So really, youalready have the advantage on the Rangers.
If you take advantage of it,you beat them the next two games and
you're a plus two in the gamesagainst Oakland. The key is making sure
that happens also against the Royals. And the same thing with the you know,
the matchup, so to speak, that the Mariners have The Mariners handled
the Royals five out of six.The Rangers handled the Royals four out of
(07:46):
six. The Astros have yet toface the Royals, so they're over six.
They haven't seen them yet. Andthat I mean at the end of
the day or at the end ofthe season. I guess in this case,
I do end up thinking I dothink that the Royals will end up
at actually with the worst record inbaseball. Like it's not because the A's
have shot up to the Astros. It kind yeah, no, I know,
but but I'm kind of going tothat end. I think the Astros
(08:09):
will handle them well. They alreadyhave the chance to handle them better because
they could still sweep those games. That was not out the window last night.
But now they've got two wins asyou mentioned against the Astros. Do
the A's, But you know,I'm not. I don't want to go
like complete hyperbole going into tonight's matchup, but if Justin Verlander doesn't throw a
no hitter. I'll be mildly shocked, like they suck. I don't care.
(08:30):
I don't want a rooker and allthat. Like in April, or
excuse me, in September, theAstros are five and five, the Rangers
are four and six, the Marinersare three and eight. So you're saying
the A's are six and four.Oh my gosh, what are the angels?
Unimportant? Were the discussion? Okay, they're not playing the angels?
(08:52):
Uh? Yeah, it was justa weird night. And you like when
they didn't bring home those two runnerson second and third early and the gay
I think it was the first inning, was it not? Again, It's
like I said, it's always theheart of the order up teenth time.
Yeah, the one out, twoon and they didn't end up scoring.
(09:13):
I was like, really, butI never thought it was going to be
like, oh, nine innings later, I'm sitting here on the starter.
You knew he wasn't gonna go deafanyway, and you just never expected anybody
to come out of their bullpen forthat long. And Frombert Cruise in the
first inning the whole night, reallyhe did. He just made a couple
of pitches that I'd like to haveback, and they weren't just singles and
(09:33):
doubles, they were homers. Yeah. The first one was like, here,
have this meat ball that I servedto you with sauce and pasta and
take it out over the I mean, that was a destruction of that baseball,
but it made it one nothing. But yeah, you know, you
put it behind you and take careof business tonight. Justin Verlander. The
good Justin Verlander is hopefully out thereand the Astros bats can do what they've
(09:54):
been doing too much better competition oflate before the A's got the town.
It's just I don't know, thistime of year, with the way things
are in the division. I justwanted a little bit more of the hometown
nine than we got last night.Yeah, it's just it's weird how it
works out. Never seems like itshould. It did, and hopefully it
was more of a one game thingversus a Yeah, they don't hit well
(10:16):
at home, because that still holdstrue even with what they did to the
San Diego Padres. They're still muchbetter offensive team elsewhere. There's still a
much better overall team elsewhere, andtheir home schedule is not yet complete,
so these games are far too important. Can't expect Seattle. I don't think
to continue losing. They have lostfour in a row. The Rangers have
obviously played a little bit less welland than you, and you've been able
(10:39):
to hold them off, but theymaybe, you know, I kind of
pushed back at somebody who said, yeah, I think the Mariners are peaking
too early, and I thought itwas so late in the season. It
kind of felt like, well, there's not enough season left for me to
call it early. And I don'tknow that they've fallen apart. But they've
won three games this month, They'velost eight times. They're not as hot
as they work. Yeah, thatis clear. It's just a matter of
(11:01):
if this, you know, stopstonight and they start winning again, everything's
fine. If this continues, thenyeah, I would have to agree after
the fact. Yeah, they probablydid peek too early. Pitching was fine
last night. From their starter. It usually has been Castillo, continues to
give them good starts. Last nightit was Gilbert. As long as they
don't need a ninety first pitch fromGeorge Kirby, everything should probably be fine.
(11:22):
On his end. What a horrible, horrible look for him to say
what he did. I mean thatis as gutless. So when the Astros
are up one nothing in the topof the seventh inning and Verlander strikes out
the first batter to continue throwing shutout baseball, and he looks up at
the banner ribbon boarding, and heknows that that was his ninety first pitch
(11:46):
on that last strike to that batter. He's just gonna stare daggers into Dusty
and into Josh Miller and lay like, are you coming to get me?
Because that's it for me. He'llalso fine, I shouldn't be out here.
He'll also find Dana Brown in hisbox and throw daggers at him as
well, because everybody's in charge andneeds to relieve him. Truly, Dana
Brown still in charge. On atotally different note, that's true. We
(12:09):
will get to that. But whenwe come back X and I are going
to fight to the death about somethingwe disagreed on early on in the show,

Wis, the Two Adams, theeights and eight eights. Oh, Sports
Talk seven ninety huh for your records. Early on the show, Wex and
(14:03):
I were discussing the Jets plight afterthey moved to one and oh last night
following the death of Aaron Rodgers Jetscareer four plays in done achilles tear confirmed
this morning. And I say they'reseason's over. You say it's not.
And I need you to explain tome how that's not the case. Well,
(14:24):
they need to be three and threeafter six games, and to do
that all they have to do isbeat Bill O'Brien and beat Sean Payton.
I don't expect them to go toDallas and win. I don't expect him
to win at home against Kansas City, and I don't expect him to win
at home against Philadelphia. But theydid just beat the Bills, and I
wouldn't put anything past they. Again, this was this has nothing to do
(14:45):
with Aaron Rodgers, and it actuallyshould be. It's not just that Zach
Wilson played the entire game. ZachWilson played the entire game after not practicing
at all for the Buffalo Bills,so he was even further behind it.
Then you know your typical starting quarterback. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the way
he played. Far from perfect, far from excellent, but there's absolutely nothing
(15:07):
wrong with the way he played. And keep in mind, and I was
mentioning this to uh, the otherguy on Next Up, since he's not
regularly on our show. He relegatedto other guys status and Chris Gordy.
They won a bunch of games lastyear with bad, really bad Zach Wilson,
and they did it the same waythey're going to do it this year,
except this year's team is better.Do you think last year's team?
(15:28):
Okay? And I'm willing to traveldown this road with you because he And
that's the reason I made the statementthat I made, because if that's your
guy, he was awful last year. Is Zach Wilson capable of I'm not
even gonna remotely compare this to Drewbled So Tom Brady, because that would
(15:48):
mean that Zach Wilson is to TomBrady in that scenario, and it's just
not that's what you mean. Youwould have had to have done that before
he hit the field, we've seenhim play. He thinks we hadn't seen
Tom Brady play, right, Well, he had seen his his pro day
or his combine. In other words, we hadn't seen him play. Yeah,
but I just like, is hethe type of guy that can use
(16:11):
this as a chip? I mean, it already should have been, because
they just brought in Aaron Rodgers toreplace you. See, I don't think
of how could you think that?Who are you? You're nobody. He's
a Hall of famer. Of coursethey brought him in. He's way better.
Yeah, no, I get that, But like you were a guy
that was taken prior to him gettinghere with a you know, valuable draft
pick to be the guy. Butyou've been on the field for two years.
(16:33):
Yeah no, I know. Listen, I'm not trying to. I
think they're still comes from bad play, doesn't come from Aaron rodgers arrival.
His chip should be I want toprove to them and to everybody else that
doesn't think I can play, orto prove to my supporters that think I
can play, that I can play. And now he's got another opportunity to
do it. He's been given opportunitiesin both of his seasons. Obviously last
(16:55):
year did not go well from astatistical standpoint and a bunch of other stuff
on and off the field, buthe goes in I think with a different
mindset. They've made a bunch ofoffensive changes. That's the thing. Bringing
in Aaron Rodgers was one thing. They brought in a whole new offensive system
as well, which the other quarterbackthere is very familiar with Tim Boyle for
his time in Green Bay and playingwith Aaron Rodgers. He remains and now
(17:17):
Nathaniel Hackett works with him exclusively. He'll get to practice this week end game
plan for arguably the best defense inthe NFL when they go to Dallas to
take on Dan Quinn's Micah Parsons leddefense. This is an unbelievable challenge.
We're days away from really talking aboutthat because there's so much from last night
and the fact that Aaron Rodgers, you know, big Ballyhood season in New
York with a team around him that'sjust like the team around Zach Wilson.
(17:41):
It's super Bowl caliber team. Youget regular quarterback play, reasonable quarterback play,
You're gonna win ten games. You'regonna win. You can win playoff
games without having your quarterback go off. I doubt the Jets are gonna do
what they did last night defensively everygame, dominate the quarterback, create four
turnover from the quarterback, three ofwhich winterceptions, and and the game on
(18:03):
a special team's touchdowns. That's alot. That's like everything you could possibly
want out of your special teams, you got it, or your defense and
special teams, you got it allin one game. But if Dallas is
the best defense in the NFC,good nights sell you that the Jets are
the best defense in the AFC,and they're gonna win games by being an
even better defense than they were lastyear, by being an even better running
(18:26):
team than they were last year, because the safety for Bruce Hall is there
this year. The safety for himlast year wasn't, and when he got
hurt, the running game suffered. This year, he's there, Dalvin Cook
is there. Hall looked really, really good. They ran the ball exceptionally
well, They handled everything offensively prettywell. The one interception obviously stood out,
but then they just kind of wentthrough the motions and you know,
(18:47):
they really at the end of thegame going forward on the fourth and short
with the quarterback sneak was in myopinion, the right call, and then
they got it, didn't weren't ableto burn much more time off the clock,
and they left just enough for theBills to force overtime. Then the
defense completely shut him down. Billsgot the ball first and overtime went three
and out, and when the ballhit their punter's foot that was basically the
end of the game. There wasan awesome punt return, great reverse of
(19:11):
field, an impressive, like anall timer effort from the punter on his
attempted tackle. Game was probably overanyway. He could have made the best
tackle of any punter's life. TheJets still would have been inside the twenty
and they would have ended up scoringand winning the game. But he was
an awful, awful effort. Itwas a really fun way for the week
to end. But yeah, thatthe biggest thing that happened this week as
(19:33):
it relates to the rest of theseason. Took plays took place for offensive
plays into the game, speculation aboutwhat it was for much of the night,
and then with most people realizing, well, if you look right here,
you can see the achilles pop.You can see it pop all the
way from the bottom of his foot, through his calf, and on the
back of his leg. And obviously, like you said, it was confirmed
(19:56):
today. I probably have five unsenttweets to multiple different here's the list of
free agent quarterbacks available and who theJets should be looking at. Because I
just couldn't figure out the nicest wayto tell them how stupid they are.
We'll do it here. Yeah, exactly. Every quarterback that is available in
free agency is worse than the quarterbackyou have. Every quarterback that's available in
(20:18):
free agency is less capable of helpingyou win. Right now, You're more
than welcome to bring in a veteranquarterback as a backup, as a helper,
as a sounding board, as aanother person a body. But there's
no way that player, especially whenyou start your lists with Carson freaking Wentz
and then you go to Matt Ryan. It's embarrassing. Okay, let's just
(20:42):
cut to the chase. Let's getto the obvious name as it pertains to
both us and this situation case.Keenum makes sense because they don't have a
veteran there, unless you consider TimBoyle one veteran in literal terms but not
in terms of being on the fieldand playing He's already proven in the past
with Minnesota with Denver at times wherewhen the ball had to be given to
(21:04):
him perfectly capable of keeping where theyare or producing the greatest play in Minnesota
Vikings football history, arguably in theplayoffs and Ian case Keenum started an NFC
Championship game. Case Keenum, NickFoles, Blake Bortles, Tom Brady the
final four quarterbacks, and Brady didnot win the Brady did not win the
(21:25):
Super Bowl here, But yeah, that makes sense taking on this year and
the second year of his contract. It's not overwhelming, it's it's a little
bit. It shouldn't It wouldn't beanything prohibitive, I don't believe. I'm
not sure what the Texans would demandin return. Texans have Case Keenum on
the active roster to comply with thenew quarterback rules on game day that quarterback.
(21:45):
If you want a third quarterback ongame day, he must be on
the active roster. He can't beelevated from the practice squad. He's inactive
on game day, but designated asthe third QB if both of the two
active quarterbacks have to leave the gamedue to injury or equipment failure, things
like that. I'm sure the Texanscould manage their way through the season without
(22:07):
carrying that quarterback. They might valuehim because their quarterback is CJ. Stroud,
And for sure they might value whathe can help him with why he's
here to begin with, if there'smore they think he can do over the
next you know, thirteen fifteen, seventeen weeks. I'm completely speculating when I
say this. I would think thatCase Keenan is mentoring CJ. Stroud a
(22:27):
whole lot more than Davis Mills is. Yeah, that's not Davis's fault.
He just doesn't know as much.He hasn't been on the field very much.
He's been in a even in hissituation, him being on the field
is I mean, the learning curvefor him is just pick one game.
That's it. Every game was thesame for him. He didn't learn and
get better because the team wasn't anybetter. There wasn't more for him to
learn from unless he was much muchbetter than he is, which he showed
(22:48):
he's not. He can help himjust because he's been on the field,
but not much more than that, and not much more. Yeah, he
has a little advantage and that he'sworked with three offenses already and it's only
year three. But I think he'sbeen as helpful as he can be.
He's just not in the same positionas Case. That's the only thing I
would say if I were in thejets shoes, and I think Coach Sala
pretty much acknowledge that today when hespoke. The player that they should add
(23:11):
because it doesn't cost them any assetsis probably Coult McCoy. Same thing he
just did last year in Arizona. Is this and many places before that is
what I would think he could providefor Zach Wilson, Nathaniel Hackett their offense
as a reserve in New York. What a story if they did something with
him, That's what I mean,if the Jets or anybody really, if
(23:33):
I mean, after this happens incertain name quarterback comes to town and they
wind up, you know, doingsomething with this season of note that's the
name of it. It's that whata story. It didn't matter who it
is. Coult McCoy would be atCase. Keenan would be that. Anybody
they would sign would be that. But you mentioned the best thing they have
going for them is the rest ofthe roster around that court, everything else,
(23:55):
and again, I mean I couldbe in the minority, which is
why I just don't see it.For the other standpoint, they they already
have the best quarterback. He's notawesome, but he's better than everybody else.
It's been proven time and time again. These other guys can't win.
They can't win. They've gone outthere and played football and they cannot win
anymore or they never could, andthey don't know your offense. Makes no
sense to me to slide one ofthem into your team and ascend a past.
(24:19):
Zach Wilson, if he wants toplay himself onto the bench, that's
what I would do. I wouldlet him it is. I think he's
a little better than that. Hejust his decision making in the past has
been questionable, and he's got anopportunity to change the narrative. I think
there's some some more layers to thiswe need to get to as well,
in addition to Astro's conversation, andof course the hometown Texans will get into
(24:42):

a C. Dan Matthews with youon a Tuesday edition of the program.
(26:37):
Just real quick on this Kevin PorterJunior stuff. I know that it's been
reported that essentially, I don't wantto say it's like out of the Rockets
hands, but it kind of is. From what I've read, the NBA
is gonna be the ones to handlethis. Yeah. From from an NBA
punishment discipline standpoint, the NBA isin charge of that initially, and their
(26:57):
Rockets can't enact any of their ownuntil the NBA allows. Basically they would
do it for them essentially without completelyspeculating, but I'm gonna go ahead and
do it he's not playing for theRockets ever again. And I don't know
if he's playing in the NBA everagain again. I mean, yes,
if what is reported to have takenplace, then yeah I would. I
(27:21):
wouldn't even think there's much to debateabout that. And you know what's sad
about that statement. I'm making itnot because of what happened here. I'm
making it because of his history. In other words, what I'm saying is
if this were his first strike,if you will, I'm not sure I'm
making that statement. As sad asthat is, well, you also have
precedent for it from less than youknow eighteen months ago with Bridges in the
(27:45):
Charlotte basically he was out for awhole season. The NBA suspended him for
only thirty games. I say onlyonly thirty games because essentially they suspended him
for ten games. He was givena well you're getting twenty games served because
you didn't play in the league lastyear, because nobody was going to sign
him, because of the situation thathe was in with the potential, you
(28:06):
know, whatever was going to happenwith the case against him, and so
now he will serve a ten gamessuspension ended up resigning with them for this
upcoming season. It would be outthe first ten games, you know.
I mean there's definitely more to it. You know, everybody has if there
have been instances that they matter. This is no different than encourt stuff.
That's why it was always silly whenthe players who are constantly involved with altercations,
(28:30):
technical fouls, this, that andthe other, and they're like,
well, of course they're going totake that in consideration. It's you.
It's not random player, it's notrandom person. It's your pattern. It's
you and your history. Yet soyeah, and the pattern of behavior might
not all equal this particular type ofbehavior, but issues that have had him
away from the team, dealing withcertain personal anger issues or all sorts of
(28:52):
things. Yeah, there's far toomany of them for this to even be
considered remotely close to He just gotin the batter's box and watched a pitch
go by that the umpire called tostrike, far far from it. And
again, the additional details come outtoday, some with the initial arrest all
look extremely bad, especially when youconsider the amount of harm that appears to
(29:15):
be inflicted on his hopefully former girlfriend. But yeah, it's nothing about it
is good It's bad from an everysingle way you look at it. Worst
on her end because she was onthe receiving end of this punishment from his
fists and hands allegedly, Yeah, fractured neck, vertebra, a cut above
(29:36):
her right eye, and there's ahistory of abusing her specifically in addition to
things we're talking about in his pastthat have nothing to do with her,
including an incident in which he rammedhis car into hers. It's just I
was talking to some people about, you know, this incident, and this
was before today's details came out,but I was my mind was made up
(29:57):
way before I read anything today. And you know this is people talking about
how he's a professional or he's alwaysbeen. I'm sorry, Like, if
you do this to another human, particularly if you're a man doing this to
another woman, you're a bad person. You're a bad guy. There's not
like sugarcoating it. There's not oh, we you know, cash checks from
(30:18):
the team. So we're gonna no, Like, this is a bad,
bad guy that does something like this. And I don't want to see him
in a Rockets uniform or any otheruniform for a very long time, if
ever. And I just don't thatshouldn't be a controversial statement to make in
twenty twenty three, by the way, but apparently it is for some people
in this room. No, no, no, I'm not saying you,
I just, uh, it's gross. That's the word I would use for
(30:41):
this whole situation, this whole scenario. And if the final thing on this,
if you are Kevin Porter Junior, and you have the contract that you
do with the parameters in the languagethat you do, which essentially is like,
if you screw up even a little, you're not getting this money,
any of the future money. Andthen you have a situation where a very
(31:07):
very highly paid person at your player, at your position, has just been
added to the team this offseason, and you do this less than a month
before training camp. I stin't know, like, I don't know what he
wasn't thinking, well, I mean, that's why. And there's not nothing
to rationalize here, and you know, what did he give up? And
what's he now you know kicked awayand what's he it's I don't need there's
(31:29):
no reason to even get into allthat. It's just such an obvious this
is something you just don't do.And again, obviously this will go through
the proper litigation and you know, the arraignment court hearing. All those things
still to come, details coming fromyou know, the authorities and police reports,
et cetera. Nothing, no statementon his end, no real statement
from the Rockets beyond what they cansay at this point about gathering information,
(31:51):
and the NBA obviously taking the leadon that as they would with any team
and the players situation. So yeah, I don't. I don't really know.
The only other side of it is, you know, it's it's it's
sometimes dangerous to assume what you hear, what you read, even though this
is coming from authorities, is youknow, taking as fact, because it's
not always the case. I don'tknow that we're gonna see much differentiate from
(32:14):
what we've seen, but time willtell. And I can't believe this last
thing. I cannot believe that thisis just four years in the NBA for
him. I feel like he's playing. Maybe it's because of all the incidents,
Maybe it's just because of how roughthe last three seasons with the Rockets
have been. I just thought hehad been in a league longer. Former
first round picks, super talented.I think he's more than capable of basketball
(32:37):
wise of having an unbelievable season inthe role that he might even be better
suited for with the players that arenow here. But I also thought he
was much better than as a basketballplayer than pretty much everybody else, including
the guy in this room with you. I mean, they were an awful,
awful shooting team, and he wasn'tjust the best shooter on a bad
team. He was an actual goodshooter on the team. He just wasn't
(32:59):
allowed to take the shots that hecould make because he had to give everybody
else their shots. Nobody said himthat tells me more about the rest of
the roster. Yes, that's whatI mean. Like, if if he
was in a position like I thoughthe would be in this year, I
think they might have been able toaccentuate some of those things. But I
you know, three forty three onTuesday the twelfth, I won't be having
any thoughts of how he might fitinto the Rockets offense moving forward, or
(33:20):
any offense. And I mean,it's it's awful some of the stuff you've
read, and then seeing him takeninto custody as some of the pictures were
out there. He just made somereally bad decisions in his life. These
are more of them, and wemay find out that there were even more
leading up to this, and that'skind of where some of the additional information
is is coming from. The it'sjust hard, hard to believe. And
I'm curious what you know, thepeople who know him best obviously, or
(33:44):
family and close friends and his teammates, and I'm curious how they view this
whole situation, not at all froma basketball standpoint, but in that they've
basically been living with him for eightmonths a year, for a year or
two years or three years, dependingon who we're talking about. Any time
this kind of stuff happens, well, not this kind of stuff, because
it's this I don't think. Ican't remember the last time this kind of
(34:06):
thing has happened involving the Rockets. But I just think of John Lucas,
because if if John Lucas can't reachyou, I don't know if you can
be reached. And I really domean that sincerely, and that's that's intended
to be a compliment for Lucas becausehe's helped so many guys over the years,
and a big reason why he's beenable to is because he had rough
instances in his life that he cameout of on the other side and has
made it better for others. Butthat that didn't take here, I don't
(34:30):
think with Kevin Porter Junior. We'llwrap up the three o'clock hour coming up
next year on the eight team SportsTalk seven ninety take barrels his way to
the basket. If the window inhe back to the eighteen Adam Wexler,
Adam Clinton, two happens, ohmy Sports Talk seven ninety black Ship Station
(34:51):
of your rockets. So, asis the case a lot of times here
in the studio will have you know, sports on the screen in here,
and they just happen to be showingAnthony Richardson highlights at this exact moment from
(35:15):
his Colts team's loss to the Jagsover the weekend in Week one, and
that is who, obviously the Texansare gonna be facing off against this upcoming
week And one of the things tomake O'Ryan said in his comments yesterday was
the fact that in a lot ofways, Lamar Jackson and what he does
(35:37):
prepared the Texans defense for what theycould see back here at home this upcoming
weekend when Anthony Richardson and company cometo town. This is what the Rock
or the Texans head coach had tosay about that. It's always a challenger
you go against a running quarterback, and Lamar is definitely one of the top
quarterbacks in this league. You talkabout athleticism and being able to create with
(35:59):
his leg, so it I thinkour guys did a good job of just
continuing to work right. You neverknow when he's gonna be down. You
have to keep hunting, and that'swhat our guys did and it'll be the
same this week. Another quarterback who'sathletic. He can run the ball,
so we have another talent and that'sthat's the kind of theme of the league
(36:20):
and that's where I think the trendis going with more quarterbacks who are athletic
and can run the ball. Sowe'll see a lot of that each week.
Now, Wax, he is questionableat this point in the week.
Yeah, unofficially, since there isno injury report on a Monday or Tuesday.
They'll be one tomorrow when they actuallyget on the field and practice.
And this stems from his injury latein the game their last drive of the
(36:40):
game. On his way down ona run, he hit his knee.
Looked to me like he hit hisknee on the turf hard, which is
where the bruised knee came from. Some people thought it was a shoulder injury
for the manner in which he wentto the ground and the force with which
he was hit, but he saidafterwards he's fine. It is at bruised
knee and he should be fine.I mean, the Colts might have a
decision make because of the nature ofthe investment and the likelihood that three,
(37:04):
four or five years from now theywanted to be at his best rather than
in Game two on the road atthe Texans. But I have at this
point on a Tuesday, I justguessing. I think he'll be out there.
He carried the ball nine times avariety of designed runs. His touchdown
run was a designed run. Itwas a quarterback draw. I took a
step back then ran right through thedefense very easily. Looked exactly like Carolina
(37:24):
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, as asawesome as Cam Newton was running the football
as an absolute blueprint in the redzone for how a Jonathan Taylor less Colts
team should think about Anthony Richardson unlessthey wanted to turn out like Cam Newton
(37:44):
and That's where the balance comes from. Cam Newton could have played a lot
longer had he not been treated like, oh, well, what difference does
it make. You're six five, two fifty. You're gonna last forever.
Let you get absolutely pummeled. We'regonna set you up for punishment. I
think he was horribly officiated in termsof how much punishment he took from defensive
(38:06):
players on pass plays, because Ithink the referees did the same thing.
Well, you're just as big asthey are. Why should we flag it?
Because I'm the quarterback and I'm likeeverybody else in that sense, your
dummies. But it's only one gameinto Anthony Richardson's career. The same question
was asked if Denzel Perryman, theTexans linebacker, did you know playing against
Lamar Jackson prepared you a little bitfrom Anthony Richardson. He said no.
(38:28):
He basically said, there're two differentquarterbacks. Great two forty four, he
hid me. And then the waythat they are going to run the football
so completely different. Jalen Hurts mightprepare you more for a game against Anthony
Richardson for the way that he's likelygoing to run the football. Of Anthony
Richardson. I mean, he's apretty big quarterback. I think people forget
(38:51):
he's no, he's not Anthony richardsonside. But he's also much more well
built than Lamar Jackson. But LamarJackson's an excellent running quarterback because he has
all the attributes of I'm the bestathlete on the field, good luck,
and that's what he does most ofthe time. He only technically carried the
ball six times, and there couldn'thave been maybe one, maybe two plays
(39:13):
where he was asked to run thefootball. He just basically took it on
his own to run it when thingsweren't there for him. And that's where
the Texas defense actually played pretty well. I thought in coverage that forced him
to run, which you get again, you balance that, do you want
him to would you rather him flingingit to Bateman and Flowers and likely and
Odell or would you you know,do what you can in coverage and still
(39:35):
hope you have the speed to containhim to keep him from getting a from
three yards behind the line of scrimmageto twelve yards in the forward lane,
and it's another first down. It'salso game two for Anthony Richardson, like
it's there's so much difference there thatI'm sure they would like to force him
to throw the football. And thegood news is there should be no change
(39:55):
to the Colts running success aside fromrichards Dion Jackson thirteen carries fourteen yards.
That's their number one, and theydon't really have anybody else to go to.
They've added a running back. Obviously, Taylor cannot come back for another
three games because he was placed onthe injured list in season, but Richardson
(40:16):
is probably going to be their leadingrusher again if you just force everything on
his shoulders their run game and theirpass game, and Stingley and Nelson can
do a better job on Pittman thanthe Jaguars corners did on Pittman a week
ago, which is a tall task. I don't really know who else is
gonna beat you. I think thisis a very very untalented team. The
(40:37):
Texans deserve to be favored. Theyhave to prove that to be accurate.
All right, four o'clock hour, right around the corner, we will get
back into some astro's conversation as theysomehow, some way, wex have to
find a way to defeat the OaklandA's at home. I don't know how
they're going to do that. Maybethey look at the nine times they've already
(40:58):
done it this year through Verlanders onthe Mount two. I knew I could
rely on you to get a slatheringof sarcasm on whatever statement you were about
to make. All right, there'sno sarcasm involved when I tell you,
guys about Classic Elite Chevy Sugarland orClassic Elite Chevy Highway six, two of
the three locations owned and operated byJeff and Tiffany Sebastian that have got you
(41:21):
covered with anything that's got a boattie on the front of it. We're
talking about Chevy. We're talking aboutan American brand that you can count on,
and the best trucks on the roadcoming from Classic Elite Chevy Sugarland,
Classic Elite Chevy Highway six. Iknow because I drive one of them.
The z R two Silverado is absolutelyincredible. And if you're in the market
(41:42):
for any kind of Silverado, howabout the fact that they've got over three
hundred to choose from four door Silveradofifteen hundreds with payments of four ninety nine
a month with one point nine percentAPR, or if you want to go
up a little bit, a littlebit more of a truck, four door
Silverado twenty five hundreds him it's asix ninety nine a month, one point
nine percent APR. Over one hundredof those to choose from the Sugarland locations.
(42:06):
The GM Dealer of the Year twelveyears in a row and counting.
The Highway six location is open everySunday for your convenience. Classic Elite Chevy
dot com. Classic Elite Chevy Sugarlanddot com. Those are the two respective
websites. Tell them. Adam Clantonfrom Sports Talk seven ninety sent you in
two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adamtalking your team. Adam Clinton and Adam
(42:35):
Wexler. Are d aighteen ay ournumber two of three here on the A
team sports Talk seven ninety wexa cDan Matthews with you, taking you up
until six o'clock tonight. That pointwill make way for Astros on deck.
(43:00):
And I'm actually not sure who's hostingit tonight, but I do know this.
They won't be running any astros highlights. Yeah I will, or they
won't. I will. Actually you'redoing it? Yeah what highlights? Defensive
Homer remember gets the double p andChaz makes a great cat. Are you
(43:22):
reading aloud from the system, Well, yeah, I mean I could make
the little block a little wider andI could read the full clip, so
it's cut off. It wasn't spelledthat way. Yeah, I mean there's
probably ah if Rooker is not anAstro's highlight. You know that, right,
it's a game highlight. Yeah, the game rewind. Yeah, but
it wasn't an Astro's highlight offensively becausethey didn't have any there. It's confirmed,
(43:43):
I see it. Yeah, Imean, I wasn't doubting the accuracy
of the typist. I didn't knowif I was going to be able to
continue this segment until I found thatout. But look, it's you already
mentioned it earlier in the first hour, the fact that the A's have managed
to not only beat the Astros twice, but beat some of the other teams
ahead of them, like all ofthem in the Al West. And that
(44:04):
kind of stuff can happen because itis baseball. I just don't think it's
acceptable to happen at this juncture inthe calendar, when every game counts so
much. Well, Diaz will bein the lineup tonight, batting seventh playing
third base. First name Jordan, and he plays for the A's. The
other ds are trolling right now,is on the bench, Jeez, man
(44:27):
aldmus Ds. He was in thestarting lineup last night, but tonight Oakland
and Mark Kotze will have him onthe bench. The other farther, Daz,
will be on the bench tonight forthe Astros for Dusty use whenever the
opportunity presents itself, or he couldchoose to use Michael Brantley in that situation.
Those two relative starters will be athis disposal at any point in the
(44:49):
game should they be needed. Otherwise, It's a very typical lineup on a
day that Justin Verlander will make thestart. Altuve, Paena, Alvarez,
Bregman, Tucker or Brayu, Jazz, Mauricio and Martin. Obviously, Mauricio
is in center and Martin is doingthe catching for JV. I'm not gonna
him in the harm I'm not gonnaI would hope not, because it's totally
(45:10):
unnecessary. We ate the good JVtonight or is it gonna be another stupid
night? I mean, if that'swhat last night was. If he can't
yeah, but again, if hepitches like fran Per Valdez and the answers,
Yes, you got the good one. I mean that was perfectly fine.
If you can't win a game athome while your starter gives up three
runs for seven innings, then you'renot very good at home. Yeah,
no kidding, we've been here allyear. They are not. And there's
(45:32):
some pretty eye popping numbers when itcomes to the number of runs the Astros
must score to win. How aboutfifteen straight losses when they score five runs
or less fifteen straight loss when theyscore five runs. Do you la have
(45:53):
the games in front of you?Yes? What were the finals? Just
run th eighteen to one, fifteento three, nine to two. I
mean they've been scoring so much, they've really been at that number. But
when they score four or three ortwo or last lights because their pitching isn't
slowing. Some of the best nightsoverall nine innings of pitching for the Astros
(46:14):
have been in these lopsided wins wherethe bullpen gives up a homer late and
it doesn't matter because they were upeleven to two because they did get good
pitching on a night where they reallydidn't even need it mattered last night because
a three nothing deafsit became four nothingbecause Montero couldn't keep him in the yarder
at all, because they weren't goingto do. When Rooker hit his homer
in the second, it was over. The game was over. But yeah,
(46:36):
August second, the Astros beat theGuardians three to two. Every game
they've played since August second, whenthey've scored five runs or few where they've
lost, and that wasn't even againstLucas Giolito. No. I look,
it's justin Verlander on the mountain tonight. You feel good and all that kind
of stuff, and it's the ace. You should just But I'm gonna admit
(46:59):
it. I was just penciling inthree wins last night, tonight, and
tomorrow. I figured they'd win eighttimes in these twelve games, only including
Baltimore because they're Sandwich in between theseKsey and Oakland games. Have you win
eight out of twelve, which isn'tgreat considering the low low level of hundred
lost team competition you're playing in nineof those games. Almost last night was
(47:20):
a ninety nine lost to night isa ninety nine lost team. Yeah,
but if you just win eight, you're still making the other teams, the
Mariners, the Blue Jays, theRangers. Then they have to win nine.
They've got to win ten. It'ssimple, Masks, Yeah, it
is very simple, and eight andfour is not overwhelming. They should absolutely
win ten out of twelve, andthey still can. Now, trying to
(47:40):
make that happen while Baltimore is threeof the eleven remaining games gets more and
more difficult. They're also, youknow, still trying to win their division.
These two games or the two seriesat the end of the season are
looking more and more important because Arizonahas has not seen themselves fall further far
enough out of the race that I'mready to say for sure those games won't
matter to them. We know they'regonna matter to Seattle. So yeah,
(48:04):
it's nothing's ever changed. I'm doingmy best to give the information without acknowledging
any scoreboard watching because last night Iwasn't scoreboard watching at all. I was
literally watching. I was literally watchingthe Mariners Angels game, and man,
the Angels are really really trying tomess this up for everybody else. Spoiler.
Well, they did win last night, but they had runners on second
(48:28):
and third, nobody out top ofthe ninth tie game and you got a
fly ball to Jared Kelnick out inand he wasn't charging in on it.
He wasn't in a very good positionto throw, and the runner on third
just completely botched it. He headedfor home on a fly ball from third
base with none out, and sowe didn't have time to go tag up.
(48:51):
And then with the bases loaded andone out, they managed to not
score at all. Well, thenthe Mariners matched by not scoring in the
bottom of the ninth with the basesloaded themselves. That was a miracle.
Angels got a two run homer ona two strike pitch with two outs in
the tenth Julio Rodriguez the one out, two run, absolute smash of a
homer to match, I mean, and this was a pitch way out of
(49:15):
the zone, super low, andhe's absolutely rocketed out of the ballpark for
his thirtieth homer this season. Buttheir bullpen is just has a lot of
good arms, and they just haven'tbeen as reliable as they thought they would
be after trading away Seawall. Nowfor the five, six, seven,
eight weeks now since the deadline, gig gave up three more runs to the
Angels. I mean, literally theAngels have nobody in their lineup anymore.
(49:36):
They play every day without Rendon, without Trout, and without Otani, without
the players that they let get claimedvia waivers. They literally are so bare
bones from a team that wasn't thatgood offensively to begin with, and they
managed to score eight times against theMariners and winning that game in eleven,
crying the clubhouse afterward. No,no, he's he's in good shape to
(49:57):
that end, though I'm not sureyou were where. Uh yeah, season,
his hand is fine, it's mentallyfine. He's in good shape.
Okay, he got it. Hegot an a base hit in the game
yesterday for him. Yeah, goodfor them. They're fans. So that
was what we would call it anunfortunate baseball rule related loss. And he
(50:20):
played extra innings and you lost thegame. We lament that for Houston all
the time, right, yes, okay, So if you were unaware,
that dropped Seattle to six and thirteenin extra inning games, still better than
the third worst winning percentage in extrainnings of the American League, but the
worst. The Rangers are two andeight in extra inning games, that's the
(50:43):
second worst mark, and the Astrosare one and eight. The three teams
battling to say, beat our chests. We're the best team in the American
League West. We cannot win anextra innings thirteen losses in nineteen games for
the Mariners, eight losses in ninegames for the Astros. The worst team
(51:04):
in baseball and extra innings, thewinless San Diego Padres eleven tries, eleven
losses. I think so there arezero teams. Unless you think nine and
four is unbelievable. There's really noteams that dominate. I mean seven,
there's a seven and two team.I guess that's close, six and two
Atlanta, seven and two Mets. But there are more teams that are awful
(51:30):
than teams that are great. Andit's all flukiness. It's all nonsense.
It's not strategy. You know, these teams that have won seven to nine
or six of eight. It's notbecause oh they always bump the runner over
and get home that run. No, everybody's playing for a big inning and
extra innings because they know the otherteam's gonna score pretty much every time.
It's just a very tough way togo through the rest of your game when
(51:50):
the rules are different. When youget there, I get it, and
it certainly has protected teams. Somethingto keep in mind, though. The
Mariners had two extra innings of baseballyesterday and con you to play with it
without additional days off. The Royals, who are the astros next opponent,
their game yesterday was postponed, sothey got to play three games in the
next thirty six hours. They're doinga quick turnaround. They're playing two today,
(52:15):
they play again tomorrow. Obviously theywon't be playing the Astros on Thursday,
because like them, they have theday off, But certainly not an
ideal way to go through the lastthree weeks of the season with additional games
because you had a game postpone. The Yankees are playing a doublehead or tomorrow
after their game was postponed yesterday aswell, but they're not in the playoff
(52:35):
race and not currently playing a teamin it either. Down five nothing in
the bottom of the first, theycan't getting and they're getting paper cutted by
the White Sox walk single, single, walk, single single. It's it's
been hard on the terrible worst teamin baseball, Kansas City Royals, if
they got paper cutted in the firstinning. What happened to the Astros last
(52:58):
night was that more like a U. I need I need the equivalent because
the home run is not a papercut, that's a laceration. Right.
It's more like, why are westill here? Can't we just? Can't
Dusty just wave to the other dugoutand say, this is like a spring
training game. You guys have scored. It's can't we be done? Why
are we still? You know it'sworth like and you know how I feel
about bad baseball, which I'm notsaying the Astros play, but you know
(53:20):
how I feel about bad baseball.I'm on record of saying it. Dan.
Maybe you're learning this about me forthe first time because you're new to
the show. I hate bad baseball. I am a fair Weather baseball fan.
When the Astros start losing one hundredgames again, I'm not watching that
bleep for all nine innings every singlenight like you will. You act like
last night was like that. Iknow I'm getting no but I'm getting type
of loss. It is when youknow about two, three, four,
(53:45):
maybe innings in, you're completely wastingyour time. If the Jorda on Alvarez
ninth inning rocket has a launch angleof twenty, everything they hit was nothing
last night. It was also softit would have been a three run home
or it would have been four threein the bottom of the ninth with nob
out, and they probably would havewalked it off because they would have been
like, all right, we'll care. I mean, he didn't care last
(54:05):
night. I do think I saidit. It's it's total nonsense. How
could you honestly watch that game anddispute it though? You know what I
mean? Come on, yeah, you know how football teams will gather on
the field, you know for anoon game eleven twenty eleven, twenty five,
Big Ra Ra Rossbach, and theyhead in the locker room and then
they come back out and usually thingsare set in the locker room too.
Is that what the Astros do afterBP? We know they don't do that
(54:29):
on the field because we're there, but in the clubhouse before they make their
way back out there for their finaluh, getting ready for the game,
running from the foul line into centerfield and back and all that good stuff
that they do. Is there someonein the clubhouse that makes sure everybody's on
the same page. Remember, guys, tonight game one of our series,
last series of the year against Oakland. It's a Monday night. There's a
(54:52):
Monday night football game tonight. Wethis is a game we're not supposed to
try. We're not supposed to care, So everybody don't care on three,
one, two, three, don'tcare. And also, next Friday is
Hawaiian Shirt Day, So if you'dlike to wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans,
go ahead and do that. MeanMichael Brantley is clearly we have to
acknowledge it on the negative side justas much as we on the positive side.
(55:13):
From a results standpoint. We spentfive years telling all the naysayers and
the ridiculous cheater theorists, Look howgood these guys are. They're just good.
They can do, they can dowhatever they want. They make it
to the Championship Series every year. It's not luck, it's because they're good.
They're so good that they said, look tonight, we already decided where
you don't care tonight. So we'reswinging at the first pitch. I'm going
(55:37):
to intentionally ground it into the dirty. We are not going to have a
single hard hit ball until the sixthinning. Marty, you get it,
and uh again, Marty, we'reso good at this. Watch it.
Watch this. It's like Kobe refusingto take a shot to prove a point,
which he did, Which he did. The Astros are just you know,
they don't care. I'm just tellingyou what. Watch us, not
(56:00):
how good we are at hitting theball into outs. Watch us. We
are board. We need a littlebit more of a challenge than this division
has already been this year. Sowe're gonna go ahead and drop a game
just to see what happens for bleepsand giggles across the division. You know
they're playing with fire for a challenge. That's what they're doing. They're board
right now. Justin Verlander restores orderin a matter of hours. Tonight here

about Aqueduct Plumbing Company. Free quoteson repiping, repairs, or any of

got a little, let's just callthis some intel yesterday from a good friend
of mine who actually sells some ofthe material that Aqueduct Plumbing Company uses when
they repipe your home. It's expandablePEX pipe. So it is something that

is you know, it's a betteralternative, and it's something that can make
your home absolutely full proof when itcomes to lowering temperatures. I know it's
hot right now, but pretty soonyou're gonna have those temperatures in the teens,
believe it or not, because that'sjust how life is down here in
Houston, Texas. And if yourpipe's freeze, if they're like that for
(57:27):
twenty four hours or more, forexample, there's a good chance that'll happen

(58:39):
A team here on Sports Talk sevenninety and it is say what I want
to go? Grammar police. Absolutelywell, come on, who are you
talking to here? Kind of abig deal. Last night, four plays
into the offensive season for the Jets, Bills had the ball first. Jets
got the ball. Fourth play,Aaron Rodgers after a woful attempt at a
(59:02):
block by former Texans tackle Dwayne Brown. Aaron Rodgers was spinning around its fault,
running for his life and he wastackled. Nothing really out of the
ordinary with it. It's just aquarterback got hit. He got hit and
spun down to the ground foot planetin the turf. Ankle flexed to the
point where he's now officially on injuredreserve. They did do the MRI.
(59:24):
They know that it is torn asachilles as they feared last night, and
his season is over. He hadzero or he had one sack on the
season. He was over for onepassing and that's that it will result in
only a second round pick going backto the Green Bay Packers as part of
the contingencies on that deal. Hadhe played a higher percentage of the snaps
(59:46):
than technically this will be zero pointsomething. It's percent of the snaps this
year, so it goes to asecond round pick rather than a first.
But when it happened last night, obviously this is one of those sports related
moments that you know when you're onX, not the drug, the social
media platform. Something has clearly happened. Someone's you know, one of out
(01:00:09):
away from a perfect game. JoseAltuve is about to hit looking for his
fourth home run in a game.Uh, some UFC fighter has just been
mangled. It's usually going you're goingto know about it immediately via social media,
and oftentimes that's in the Twitter verse. Well, one of his contemporaries,
one of his quarterbacks soul mates, took to Twitter as it happened,
(01:00:32):
and the kind of the news cameout and the visuals of him needing help
to get off the field, headinginto the tent, ultimately taking him out
of the tent and right onto acart. So it would be a shorter
path to the locker room and xrays Patrick Mahomes two On Twitter at Patrick
Mahomes tweeted hate that man praying forthe best. He should have put he
(01:00:57):
said, hate that man praying forthe best and put a comma after.
He then edited this tweet because heis verified and he typed hate that comma
man praying for the best? SayI love Patrick Mahomes clarifies his comment,
(01:01:19):
Aaron Rodgers, hate that man.Have you ever seen the clip? I
almost I can't. There's no waywe can do it because I didn't know
you were going to talk about him, and therefore I didn't have Dan get
this ready, which takes far, probably far longer than a commercial break,
although I don't want to put itpast him. Have you ever seen the
clip floating around of Patrick Mahomes onone of the late night shows and then
(01:01:43):
it immediately cuts to Kenny Powers.Yeah, we've played it on the show,
but we have. Yeah, I'veput it in there. Sure did
you play that? I hear thatday? I mean, there are so
many of those days to deal with. You might have been out that day?
Is that a shot at the amountof vacation? I take? Well,
why do you take a lot ofvacation because I get a lot vacation.
X. It's very It's no problemat all. When are you gonna
start taking more like you did thisyear this summer? I was barely here.
(01:02:06):
I know it was like weird, you were having an out of body
experience fun. He really does theysound exactly alike? Did you find it?
No, because it's said if youhave to play it edited because obviously
Kenny swears a lot. But yeah, that was that is unfortunate. And
just speaking of that whole situation, did you see what are you familiar with
Zach Rosenblatt? He's on Twitter?I mean X No. Aaron Rodgers had
(01:02:31):
expressed two Jets coaches that he doesn'tlike the play calls involving the cut blocks
because he can't extend the play andit forces him to get rid of the
ball quickly. Sources tell me andd M. Russini you know who that
is Twitter hand, because she's nolonger an ESPN employee, but rather with
(01:02:51):
the athletic When did that happen? She was just on the other day,
although that was before she left, like a few days ago. It's been
a couple of weeks. Really, wow, I didn't know that. He
continues it failed twice on his fourdropbacks. One resulted in a throwaway,
on the other he got injured whenDwayne Brown's cut failed to stop Leonard Floyd.
(01:03:14):
Yeah, and cut blocking is prettyto me. It's very dangerous for
all the wrong reasons. But it'salso dangerous for what actually happened on that
play. The danger, as youmiss, the danger is the players not
in a good position for you tohit him, as in he was smart,
or he realized it, or heplayed off of it. So well,
you know, some guys are alittle bit better at it than others.
(01:03:34):
I don't know that Dwayne Brown gradesout one way or the other as
a cut blocker, but it wasan absolutely disastrous result. Well, he
didn't do anything to impede his progress. So we're talking about Rosenblatt and you're
talking about Rassin either both you know, employees of the Athletic obviously. And
Jordan Moore chimes in and he hasa screen grab to back up what he's
saying, which is quote. I'llbe the one to say it. Rogers
(01:03:59):
injury is on him. He hadGarrett Wilson wide open on the play,
he's got to get rid of theball, especially on a three step drop
back like he had. And whatfollowed that was a cascade of primarily Green
Bay Packers fans weighing in saying, this is what Aaron Rodgers would do.
He would hold onto the ball forway too long after the snap. He
(01:04:21):
would you know, chee easier passesthat were available in order to try and
make the home run play or whateverfor whatever reason, but constantly holding on
to the ball longer than he should. I think I think it's interesting because
we're talking about basically back to backquarterbacks that are the Packers modern legacy did
(01:04:45):
have this, I guess suppose itdepending on who you ask. Fans and
otherwise fatal flaw in their games.Farv had you know, the thing he
would do, That's why he wascalled the gun slinger. The thing he
would do, Yeah, he wouldthrow the balls the other team, so
crushing pick exactly. That's what hewas known for. It's amazing how these
two guys played for the same team, did all this winning and one of
them was arguably the greatest ever atnot throwing picks, and the other one
(01:05:10):
is the complete office. That's whatI'm saying, and that's who you've had,
And now here comes Jordan Love onegame in it's pretty good the Bears.
Well, yeah, I said thatyesterday too. I get it.
I mean, it's amazing. AndI don't know if it's twenty twenty three
or I'm being oblivious or blind ornaive. The blame game. Really he
got hurt playing football? Do youknow why? You know? Well?
(01:05:31):
And I mean, come on,I'm not saying this for a fact,
but it just it's ironic considering thesubject of who we're talking about here,
because he always plays the blame game. He's played it right out of Green
Bay, right. This is aguy who never wanted to point the finger
in himself for a variety of reasons, and now we're talking about who's to
blame for his season ending injury. So Rogers is to blame for this injury
(01:05:54):
after playing this way for I'm justthe mess And I don't necessarily agree,
which he now shouldn't be doing becausewe all know that the Jets o line
is a massive issue, so heshouldn't. He's on him, yea to
have changed. I've got to Ican't do that anymore. I'm on the
fourth snap ever with this team, and I'm too good. I'm an MVP
(01:06:15):
guy, I'm a Hall of Famersoon to be. They're gonna fit a
jacket for me. I should knowbetter. That play was designed to get
rid of the ball, and itshould be in Garrett Wilson's hands. Yeah,
they're right, that's my fault.I am out for maybe ever because
of the decision I made. Notyour fault. It's not your fault.
Man. He's not retiring. Idon't think he should. He's still certainly
good enough to get it done, and I don't know where that will be.
(01:06:39):
I have a feeling it will beright back where he is. I
don't envision them winning a Super Bowlwithout him, but they certainly have a
roster capable of putting them in contentionto do so both this year and with
who's still likely under contract and playingwell next year and maybe even further into
the future. Very very good division. I mean, think what it looks
like right now. After one week, the Patriots nearly took the lead in
(01:07:00):
the last minute of the game againstthe Philadelphia Eagles champions. The Miami Dolphins
played a pretty good Chargers offense,a pretty miserable Chargers defense and TWA and
Tyree Hill looked like the most unstoppableduo in the NFL, and the last
couple of years, for one Sunday, the Bills and Jets finish off the
week. Somebody please get behind thisstatement besides me. Josh Allen is to
(01:07:28):
turnovers as what is to what andyour what's are two things that love each
other. Josh Allen loves turning theball over peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti
and meatballs. I mean, heabsolutely loves giving the ball to the other
team. It doesn't matter what they'rewearing. If he sees them and he
goes that is not a bill. You can have the football. He will
(01:07:49):
give it to you as often aspossible. He fumbled twice on one play.
Well, that's allegedly, No,it's not. He was stivilly liable
lieble. That means responsible. That'swhat that word means. Responsible for their
death. It means he was responsiblefor cutting their heads off. He's responsible.
Well, they were alive and thenthey got dead and it was his
(01:08:11):
fault. How's that? Uh?I won't No, I'm not fun.
The language, the language liable fortheir deaths not one, but two,
Yeah, liabel responsible. But whydon't they say in a civil suit,
why don't they just say yeah,he killed him? Because they can't.
When we come back. No,when we come back, we hit the
break and OJ's done. I'm justsaying OJ's done. Man, no need
(01:08:35):
for any more OJ. Right raw, Yes, correct, We'll continue.
We got another half of the showto do. Hey, it's Craig Visio.

argue with me over that? Right? Yeah? Yeah, the answer is
because we're sitting here at least you'rehonest. Gosh, by the way we

he keeps talking. He always laughsnervously, like he's just committed another murder

I'm just saying, hey, Twitterwill yours truly? Definitely, he

coming. What a terrible hup.Hey you know Danny Brown. Yeah,
go ahead, No, I don't. I'm not gonna play your little sick
game. I'm done. There's nothingleft exhausted. Remember when he was hired
(01:17:30):
to run the Astros, and therewere a bunch of names that were in
the hat supposedly probably never were really, but there were names people like you
and I would throw out to say, hey, this would be a good
guy. You remember, David Stearnswas one of them. Well that's real,
that's not made up. No,I know, but he made it
very apparent that he didn't want todo that then exactly, and apparently now
(01:17:51):
either, at least in terms ofmaybe he had a better offer. David
Stearns gonna be hired by the NewYork Mets to be their president of baseball
operations, could have made returned toHouston, whereas once the assistant general manager
to Jeff Luno, then spent severalvery good years in Milwaukee, stepped away
from them following last season and wastalked to and pursued, but politely declined
(01:18:14):
all overtures, and then recently wasreported that the Mets were trying to get
him to come their way. TheAstros were involved in discussions. They do
not have a president of baseball operations. They do have a general manager who
reports directly to the owner and whomeverelse he listens to, and that could
have created a little very different hierarchy. There's a good reference to Jeff Bagwell,
(01:18:35):
whoever else he listens to. WellEnis Cabell's a special assistant, Craig
Visio's special assistant, Reggie Jackson.I mean several people, Okay, I
just wanted to cover not just tonight'scolor analyst, Jeff Bagwell, and last
nights and last night's and tomorrow's nightsas well, to make it all full
full wex. Yeah, so allthose things are in place now. This
(01:18:55):
reporting of the Mets moving in thisdirection with David Starns, did elicit a
not sent tweet from yours one ofthe ones you deleted. No, it
never made it since in the drafts. Yeah, I just I could.
I couldn't craft it. The It'ssometimes it's easier to convey the exact proper
(01:19:15):
amount of sarcasm with an actual voicerather than a Twitter voice. God,
you have a radio show, sosometimes I just I just don't ever hit
sand or just never get to it. And uh it was the news breaker
was probably your favorite Jeff Casson,Jeff pass here, Jeff and impression.
That's terrible. I don't even likeDan. Dan hasn't heard it yet.
(01:19:36):
It's so good. Come on,man, you haven't done it in like
three months. Okay, oh,thank you. Not a TWSS. I'll
leave that out there. So hetook to the old Twitter verse x World
whatever OJ's calling it these days, and he reported that this was taking place.
(01:19:58):
It's a big deal in Major Leaguebase Ball the manner which he reported
though so obviously needing my comment. And he says the Mets are hiring David
Sterns and the most significant front officemove since Andrew Friedman went from the Rays
to the Dodgers nearly a decade ago, Nicka, why are you so good
(01:20:18):
at that? Because he says theMets are hiring David Sterns in the most
significant front office move since Andrew Friedmanwent from the Rays to the Dodgers nearly
a decade ago. Why is hesuch a massive tool? I haven't put
the Wexler research team on it.They have the rest of the day off
till Astro's on deck. How manygms have been hired in the decade plus
(01:20:43):
since Freedman has been hired? Howmany vps and presidents of Baseball offs have
been hired? I know how manyhave been hired here, including one who
won the same number of World Seriesas Andrew Friedman has put together a team
who's still competing for them. Sothat's that's James Click. He's such a
was a Yankees home So this wasthe unsent tweet quote tweet of the slobbering
(01:21:09):
done by Jeffrey Starns. This isme now. Sterns very highly regarded,
great in lesser role with Houston, great in greater role with Milwaukee. His
Brewers went seven and ten and fourplayoff appearances, one Championship Series appearance,
shocking A All Caps New York higheris all Caps most significant sense a all
(01:21:31):
Caps Los Angeles higher. See youknow I and I added, well,
he is championing a Luno disciple.I guess that's something he didn't think of
that, did he? Yeah,he kind of forgot. He's he's screwed
up. He gave the Astros creditby proxy? Is it us? Is
it me. Is it Houstonians? Is it fans? Is it Astros's him?
It's Jeff pass and that's who itis. I can't read this and
(01:21:55):
think team I want to cover andwin, and team I want to cover
and win. That's what matters tome. On one coast, the Dodgers
on the other. There are people'sover here. Yeah, it's it's never
ending. There are people in thisbusiness who you used to like and then
they became douchebags. Jeff Passon's notthat guy. He's just always been a
(01:22:18):
douchebag. He's just got a biggerplatform now now he's the guy wears suits
that are five times too small heand he does it in like blazing degree
whether all the time outside doing standups. He has ridiculous hair. And
this is not a jealousy theme becauseI've had TV hair before. He's a
(01:22:39):
douchebag in every sense of the term. He is a gigantic douchebag. It's
amazing what Cohen is willing to do. This is this is a great right
now. It's September twelve, twentytwenty three, the Mets with Sterns running
the ship. See what I didthere? And Steve Cohen's money, we'll
(01:23:00):
win a World Series in the nextfive years of this higher I'll take the
under I mean, it's not amember this and that's why I put it
in there. Milwaukee won a coupleof series, they played in a bunch
of playoff series. They advanced tothe CS one time during his seven years.
(01:23:20):
You just put it in five yearsnow. Granted you might think they
have a nice start. I don't. I wouldn't think that, but you
might. But they're gonna win zeroWorld Series in the next five seasons.
Take it to the whatever bank you'dlike to bank at. The Braves are
going to be better than them formaybe all five of those years. Yeah,
the Dodgers are going to be betterthan them for maybe all five of
(01:23:42):
those years. And they obviously thenhave to beat somebody who's coming from the
American League. What I look atwho they've been losing. Oh, thank
my god. How could they everget Shohotani without David Stearns. Well,
maybe he's better in the uh,in the room with people than anybody else.
He's not signing because he likes thepresident of Baseball ops. I wouldn't,
But he's signing because he likes togo where he's going, And have
(01:24:05):
you softened your he's staying on theWest coast dance that was never really my
stance stance, and no, Ihaven't. I think he's staying on the
West coast. If he goes tothe Seattle Mariners, I'm gonna throw up
in my mouth. And they shouldimmediately start by a firing Scott's service because
he deserves better than that guy. What an absolute red ass idiot? Oh
show hey deserves better than Yes,I love show, hey man, I
(01:24:26):
am a diehard show hey fan.I'm not Ben Verlander level where I'm like
sleeping in his jersey. Shout outto Ben. That's a joke, but
not really. I doubt it's ajoke. I don't even think. You
don't think he sleeps in a Otanijersey, maybe not atual jersey. Well,
why would you sleep in an actualjersey. You're gonna sleep in some
other form, you know, areplica at best, You're not gonna sleep
(01:24:47):
in the real jersey. I don'tthink that'd be comfortable too, because like
those those numbers are stitched on thesood, you'd be a man cut you
sleeping in a nightshirt. Yeah,yeah, I don't. I wouldn't recommend
it as much. Zero when womendo that, I would agree. But
yeah, I think Sterns in NewYork with Cohen's resources is a recipe for
success. Yeah. Well, we'llsee how the hierarchy works, but absolutely
(01:25:11):
I would. I mean it's gonnabe good. I mean, far be
it for me to say that's abad deal. It's a great deal.
The braves are loaded better than them. Since we're reading tweets that were that
remained in drafts and didn't get putout there, can I read the one
that I wanted to send last nightbut didn't because, as Matt Thomas put
it, I'm level headed. Yeahyou can if you'd like really inspiring stuff
tonight at Astro's. Maybe after thegame, I can improve my night by
(01:25:36):
jumping in the pool with a lifetoaster. And the tweet that he didn't
send last night was what was yourfavorite Astro's score to run tonight moment?
Right? Probably what was your favoritemoment of Aaron Rodgers Jets career? Which
snap wasn't he didn't say that?Did he know that? I'm making it
up like you did? Yea,it's not very nice, but that's what
(01:25:57):
we do here on the show. We're not very nice. You know,
it is nice getting rid of roachesor mosquitoes or anything else that is a
pest literally in or around your home. That's where Campbell's Pest Control comes in.
Seven one three, six nine, four thirty four thirty three seven one,
three, six nine four thirty fourthirty three. You know what it
looked like last night, It lookedlike Astro's runs were mosquitos, and Chris
(01:26:23):
Campbell came through and was like, none of that anymore. That's what happened
to the astro's runs last night. That's what he does to the mosquitoes.
We have a mosquito missing system thatwe just got installed at the home courtesy
of Chris and his crew, andit just comes on really subtle, but
they stay away and it makes thebackyard a whole lot more comfortable without that
infestation of the unofficial state moniker ofMosquitos. Congratulations to new Campbell's Pest Control
(01:26:48):
higher ken Waldchuk now works for thecompany Eliminates Runs Done, Eliminates, eradicates
runs. He will literally, likethe rest of the people over there,
Chris and the crew will, theywill eliminate them from your home, from
your residence, from your commercial location. Seven one, three, six,
nine, four thirty four thirty threeCampbell's Past Control year round maintenance of necessary,
(01:27:12):
best customer service in every service youchoose. That means lawn maintenance and
service, outdoor design work, landscaping, as well pool service maintenance. Campbell's
Past Control can handle it all brilliantlyfor you. Good McCall seven one,
three, six, nine, fourthirty four thirty three four Campbell's Past Control.
Adam Clinton and Adam Wexfler far theaighteen eighty A. You're right at
(01:27:36):
fustil Football's five o'clock. Some fiveo'clock football over there, professionals. Footballs
in America is a special game,And just like that, another edition of
Football at five starts our number threeof the eighteen here on Sports Talk seven
(01:28:00):
ninety wex ac Dan Matthews, hereto penetrate the airwaves in the great city
of Houston and get you ready foranother addition of Texans football where they're favored
against the Colts this weekend at home. And as bad as both of these
(01:28:20):
teams are and as much as theTexans can say they've improved, on the
defensive side of the football and technicallythe offensive side, because let's face it,
anything is better than Davis Mills.Yeah, I said it. I'm
still somewhat surprised given the Week oneperformance of Anthony Richardson, and I know
(01:28:41):
what you've said already during the showthat there's nothing else they have, including
the fact that they're starting running backis not going to be there. I'm
still kind of surprised a little bitthat they're favored. Well, it just
came off at ten point loss. What's the line? One and a half?
Okay, never mind, that's justabout right. I thought it was.
I don't know why I thought itwas more. But there at home
they would be three and a half. Well, I mean, unless I'm
(01:29:01):
missing something the Texans, and againthat I don't have these numbers from the
same source I wish I did.I don't know exactly where it was with
the draft King Sports book is justfor us. We tend to use that
when we get stone called locks,so it's all uniforms. We're all coming
from the same place. Still, better Cults are the favorites as of right
now by that same point and ahalf, which would be a three point
(01:29:24):
swing since the original line appeared, which surprised me a great deal. Based
on our conversation, I wasn't surprisedat all that the Texans are favored,
so I am surprised now that theyare not seeing now, I'm not surprising,
but when did that happen? Justover the few days that they have
been since their game concluded, andsome of the things that have forced them
called for them to have the linesswing a little bit. Just a couple
(01:29:46):
of notes about CJ's statistical performance ifyou were unaware, not a lot of
history here. Clearly, there onlybeen a handful of rookie starting quarterbacks for
the Texans, includes t J.Yates, Savage, Car Watson, and
his teammate Davis Mills and Keenum forthat matter. Also his teammate started as
a rookie. He did throw forthe most passing yards and he Texans rookie
(01:30:12):
has ever thrown four in their openerby a lot. Nobody had ever reached
two hundred yards before. No Texansrookie had ever even completed twenty passes in
a game. In that game before, obviously he did. He threw the
ball forty four times so rather easilypass. When does this segment get positive?
This is positive. He's really reallygood. He's better than Davis Mills,
David Carr, Tom Savage, DeShawnWatson and Case Keenum and t J.
(01:30:34):
Yates. He's better than all thoseguys after one Sunday, better than
all of them. TJ. Yates'sgetting He was was the starting quarterbacks.
TJA Yates was the quarterback when theyclenched their first postseason birth. You know,
he passed Van Walter with no son the just a little bit better
(01:30:56):
decision making against Baltimore. I gotso many people lament the going to New
England and losing the playoffs both timeswith really good teams. But it's to
me, it's the Baltimore game, the game that would have sent them to
the you know, the next round, the championship round. They outplayed the
Ravens in my opinion, that day, they were the better team and just
(01:31:16):
Yates couldn't keep from throwing the ballto the Ravens. And it wasn't because
we helped, Yeah, but theytotally that's so easy to in my opinion,
it's so easy to have overcome.Well, where did t J.
Yates give Baltimore the ball both ofthe times that he did or three times
that he did it. I mean, I don't know, because Jacoby gave
it to them on the doorstep, did he not. I mean, it's
(01:31:40):
a punt return. Theoretically, you'repretty deep or as deep as the punter
is gonna put it, and youmuffett and they recover it. You're in
the red zone like that. I'mjust saying. I'm just saying. I
know you're just saying, come on, play it again. You still have
it at your disposal. No,I need to get one of those things
(01:32:01):
that you have in front of youover there, a computer. Yeah,
you get that slick the fire offOJ whenever I want, or just make
see there he is. I knewhe wasn't far behind because Dan's got back
the nervous laughter, like you justkilled two people. It gets me every
time Bills continue what you were saying, they're own one juice. So I
(01:32:21):
do think he's gonna be even better, Like I think the whole season.
There's gonna be a game that slidesin game five, game seven, game
nine, whatever it is, wherehe's ten of twenty one, a fumble
in two picks and we're saying, man, what a regression. I mean,
it's almost a bound to happen withwhat else they have. But they
were very uncommitted to the run. They did not have much upfront, and
(01:32:45):
they might not have much more thisweek. I'm hopeful that George Fan is
healthy because I'd like them not tohave to scramble their line again. I'm
curious what the health situation is ofLyle Collins, who was released by the
Bengals today, and I'm sure theyknow why, and it's probably because he's
not capable of helping them right nowand thus wouldn't be able to help here
(01:33:06):
either. But getting Fan back,as much as that might not sound very
good, would allow you to goback to a much better configuration on the
line. There's probably a pretty goodreason why Michael Dieter was released, then
brought back, then I made activeand then put into the game. But
they also, for those very samereasons, kept him off the field.
If everybody that could be healthy wasand they play all played in front of
(01:33:28):
him, no way. Damian Piercetouches the ball as a runner only eleven
times this week, and I hopethe split between him and Devin Singletary is
much wider. I think we wereall accurate when we talked about him needing
some volume. He didn't need twentyfive carriers, but he needs a lot
more than eleven, and against theColts, I think that's much more doable.
Keep out of you know, didc J. Stroude get hit too
much? I think it's pretty obviousthat everybody could see that early in the
(01:33:53):
game and all throughout the game, and it's something they would I think any
coach would answer that the same way, something they'd liked it on that part
of that hit as much. Sowhere we have to be better I think
overall, just as a group inprotection is how we how are we helping
I thought we had some really goodsnaps of protection at times, but it's
just being more consistent in our protectionin our pickups, and that applies to
(01:34:15):
more than just those five guys.Keep in mind, the Texans only carry
three tight ends. Rev and Jordanbasically did not play offense, so it's
really just the two. And someof what will slow Dalton Schultz pass production
is his past protection because they're oftentimesgoing to need it if that's what they're
looking at. And I don't knowhow much better they regard Quatriano versus Schultz
(01:34:40):
or Schultz versus Torriano. In termsof blocking. I know they'd like to
not have to need it, butwhile the offensive line is in this current
state, they probably do. Andagain in the preseason game, the only
touchdown the c J. Stroud hasbeen on the field for in the four
games that he's appeared in in anNFL uniform three in the preseason was the
play where both Pierce and Quatriano madegood blocks in the red zone to give
(01:35:00):
Stroud the ability to literally plant hisfeet and stand. He didn't have to
do anything. He stepped into thisthrow. He had all the time in
the world and it was a veryeasy pitch and catch. Taniko Collins for
six. I believe if he wentunder his pass props on touchdown passes and
it was a half, it willremain a half for the upcoming game.
(01:35:24):
Anthony Richardson went under last week. That was one of my losses as well.
Uh, he did oh two touchdownpasses. He scored two touchdowns total
touchdowns. Right, it was passes, but I think it was one and
a half. I don't think itwas. Yeah, it was one and
a half he threw one. No, what was I gonna say? Oh,
methinks that this week we see moreDalton Schultz involvement as well, because
(01:35:50):
all those things you're talking about withreceivers and whatnot. If he's and I'm
not saying it's because the Colts havethis like phenomenal pass rush or anything like
that, but I was actually, especially in light of how he was getting,
you know, flushed out of thepocket at times and whatnot, I
was surprised that Dalton Schultz didn't gettargeted even more than he did this in
(01:36:10):
week one. But I just thinkthat he's going to ultimately be a guy
that settles it. It's not gonnabe In other words, I don't think
we're gonna get in here on Mondaynext week and to be talking about Robert
Woods the way we were this lastweek. Be interesting. That's twenty three
passes thrown their way. That's alot. I mean, basically half of
his throws were thrown. And cowho's the most accomplished receiver on the roster
(01:36:32):
Robert Woods. You don't think it'sDalton Scholtz. Just a receiver of any
kind, not wide receiver. No, I don't I mean took careers,
work at full resume. I getto read every page, right, not
just last year's page. But shewould have said Brandon Cooks a year ago.
Oh, Brandon Cooks blows away RobertWoods exactly. But Robert, you
(01:36:53):
forget when they actually were teammates. They were very good together, very very
good together. Robert has some reallygood seasons in his past. He's capable
of helping the offense. He's notcapable of making the offense great though.
That's the difference. Not anymore. And you could probably argue that in previous
editions he was good in Buffalo,he was really good with the Rams.
(01:37:16):
And he's thirty one. I mean, the expectations probably right where they should
be. Why don't you just saywhat it sounds like you're about to say
he's too old. He sounds likehappy Gilmore. I mean, he's he's
gonna pass eight thousand receiving yards thisyear and a career. I'd say that's
better than what uh Dalton Schultz hasdone. Dalton Schultz is in what year
(01:37:36):
five? No, year six? They were closer probably past twenty five hundred
yards this year. It's that man. He has one season over six hundred
and fifteen another season with six yards. I can admit when I'm insanely wrong.
Well, it's just he's not. He's only been a huge part of
(01:37:58):
their offense for three years and he'sa tight Yeah, but that doesn't I
get you know what, I'm probablyjust getting my judgments getting clouded by the
era of the tight end in whichwe are currently existing. Not saying everybody
has a Travis Kelsey or a Gronk, but I just thought in that offense
with that quarterback that he had donea little bit more than he did.
(01:38:18):
Well, let's make him feel alittle bit better. No, we don't
have to do that. No,we're gonna be stupid. You're smart.
I was wrong, you were right, You're the best. I'm the worst,
all right, as long as you'rewilling to admit that. Kyle Pitts
Dalton Schultz same number of catches thisyear. They both have two. So
(01:38:39):
it is a good era for tightends. How many games have they played?
They've each played one. See,it doesn't really that doesn't help me
or him in reality. I knowwhat you're trying to do. Though.
You're a good person, all right. When we come back in case you
missed it here on the A TeamSports Talks seven ninety But in case you've
missed us telling you about this inthe past, and I don't know how,
(01:38:59):
because we've been telling you for along time, what are you doing
about your joint pain? And itcould be in a variety of different places,
your hips, your knees, yourshoulders, your back. What are
you doing about it that allows youto avoid operations, surgery, the downtime
that comes with it, maybe evenaddictive pain medication. You are calling QC
Kinetics. And when you call QCKinetics, is wex is going to tell
(01:39:23):

advanced regenerative medicine, always with thelatest advances in precision regenerative medicine. It's
gonna attack your pain. It's gonnabring you lasting relief. All you have
to do is make that call ormake that visit to QC Kinetics any one
(01:39:44):
of their four locations in the Houstonarea, the newest in Cyprus. Because
of all of you that have listenedto us and taken advantage their ability to
get rid of that joint pain foryou. Cyprus, the Heights, the
Woodlands, the Sugarland location seven onethree nine one three fifty two eighty five.
You get on the phone with QCKinetics and you get set up with
a free consultation and they'll tell youhow through their cutting edge technology they can
(01:40:08):
take care of that chronic joint painfor you. Seven one three nine one
three fifty two eighty five. ForQC Kinetics, he's technical. How do
you know that? Because he's freakingawesome and well he's a spectacle. I
have taken this segment and just flungit out this window. Adam Wexler,
(01:40:28):
Adam Clinton. The eighteen continues onSports SoC seven ninety. Undoubtedly, today's
show has produced a number of itemsthat will land here in in case you
missed it. What do we whatdo we start with today? Dann?
All Right, So we talked aboutthis a little bit earlier on The Matt
Thomas Show, and it was announcedearlier today that PBS is going to release
(01:40:55):
a docu series on the Astros twentyseventeen Eating Scandal, The Astro's Edge,
Triumph and Scandal in Major League Baseballgonna premiere October. The third is part
of Frontline. That is part ofPBS gonna focus on the trash bang trash
can banging signs stealing scheme that helpedthe Astros win their first title and made
them arguably the most villainized team inthe sport. Do we care how much?
(01:41:23):
Alright? How many particulars do youknow other than what you just read
on the air. The only particularthat I know is been reader or writer.
Okay, of course wrote Astro ballYEP is going to be featured,
And aside from that, there's nomention of is Mike Fire's gonna be in
it? Is Jeff Luno or aJ. Hinch, nothing else that we
know. I bet Evan Drelick hasalready called the producers to try and get
(01:41:45):
on it. But if it's alreadydone, I mean, okay, all
right, PBS. I mean itwas bound to happen. I guess I'm
if anything. I guess I'm kindof surprised that it's happened so soon.
But and I'm also prize that it'snot. I don't know any other entity
doing this well. The report cameout after the nineteen season and prior to
(01:42:11):
the twenty season. We'll call theCOVID season a full season a year past,
so the twenty twenty season, thetwenty one season, the twenty two
season, to a call at thetwenty three season. Well, the regular
season will be over by the timethis hits the airwaves. It comes the
first week of October, which isthe second of the five days off the
Astros will have after winning the divisionprior to the their first postseason game.
(01:42:32):
So it's good timing on that. How many years in the future would it
need to be everybody's retired from baseballif it was a part of it,
Definitely a different vibe. If they'rewilling to say things they would not be
willing to say if they were activeplayers. That includes both Astros, and
that's what tells me that this isnot going to be not that it would
(01:42:53):
be, not that any version wouldbe something that Astros fans would like,
but if this is going to bea situation where we're just go and talk
about the Astros and like no oneelse was doing anything, no one else,
I mean, come on, it'sjust I already know what this is
going to be. This is acheap, low hanging fruit type of attention
(01:43:14):
grab for the people that from PBS. Yeah, that's why I said a
surprised about the entity called the Astro'sEdge. Yeah, it's described as the
making of one of the best teamsand worst scandals in modern MLBT scandal the
limited accountability and how Astro's Baseball changedthe spot. Honestly, all of y'all
(01:43:38):
need to get bent, like it'sit's like pathetic at this point that some
of you are trying to still runwith this version of how things went down.
A that they weren't the only one, that they were the only ones
doing it. B that it hadany significant impact on them winning that year.
(01:43:58):
I just it didn't statistically speaking thenumbers that WEX loves so much.
So back it up. If youwant to say Marwin Gonzoz had the season
of his life, fine, I'llgive you that. I can't. Yeah,
I can't agree with that. Iknow you can't, but you should.
It's the same thing my view onal Twove. Everyone wants to say
he's like clean. I mean he'son a team that cheats, right,
(01:44:19):
which can be said for like abaseball He's batting with three guys on base
like Marwin who are cheating to geton basse like, yeah, I can't
totally with performance enhancing drugs coursing throughyour veins, but somehow that's not as
bad as the Astros. They're bigbat trash cans. That's what I'm getting
at here. Yeah, see Idon't. I mean, I've said,
(01:44:41):
you guys have heard this so manydifferent times here from us. I try
to like, there's so many differenteras of this, and you're bringing up
the asteroid era, which is comical. Yeah, just as comical is the
Stein Ceiling era. It's it isand how it's pursue. You can.
Everybody's got their own ways to viewit. And here's what I of my
own saying that Barry should be inthe hall, that Roger should be in
(01:45:01):
the hall, that Rafael Palmerra isa liar. All of these things are
true. Now I understand. It'sjust I try I don't need. I
don't want to go back to thesteroid era because it's not necessary. It
was fun. We could just talkabout the era they're in where the other
teams are doing the same things they'redoing, yeah, just with different way.
Like Goldilocks baseball, the idea thata cheating with the different baseball or
(01:45:28):
cheating with a massage gun against adifferent baseball that was different from you than
it was for other teams in thesame season. Yeah, and because it's
the same era, because he's talkingabout just the last couple of years with
the Yankees or others. Uh,it's definitely part of the conversation. So
but it won't be in this docI have a feeling. Yeah, that's
the problem. I think this ismuch more a story telling of here's what
(01:45:51):
their season looked like, here's whatthe investigation looked like, and here's how
they were treated after. I don'tthink we're gonna find much out. I
could be wrong. Only were goingto find very very little out in the
way that this would be portrayed well. And the only reason I would even
give this a second look is becauseI actually do respect Ben Reader, like
he's been about as objective about coveringthe Astros before, during, and after
(01:46:15):
the schedule or scandal. I shouldsay, as anybody in the media out
there, local or national. Sowhat he did was akin to something that
happened yesterday, right, he predictingthe future. He wrote the article and
Sports Illustrated with George Springer on thecover that predicted projected the fledgling Astros and
their young young tears prior would goout there and they would crush it.
(01:46:39):
They would go out and win aWorld Series. And yesterday, about two
and a half hours before last night'sgame, someone on Twitter, just apparently
some random person, I don't Ihaven't seen any background that suggests otherwise,
said Aaron Rodgers is going to tearhis achilles on a rain drenched MetLife turf
in two and a half hours signedsix zero one pm. What happened to
(01:47:00):
that guy's account? I don't believeit's active. I mean, what in
the world did the FBI get involved? I don't know, man, We're
gonna need some more FBI guys.I was in Vietnam. I can't say
the rest of the line high Ohthat's right, I was in junior specially
screwed it up. No relation, all right? Hit us with one more.
All right, So angels rumors becauseBob Nightingale yesterday coming out with a
(01:47:25):
little bit of an interesting one.The team is opening to trading Mike Trout
this offseason under one condition, ifhe wants out, they will help him
get out. All right, Doyou want to go First, are you
ready for me? I'm ready foryou. Let's review how the Angels have
bungled this entire situation. You didn'ttrade Shohey Otani when you could get something
(01:47:46):
for him, because you went allin and you traded for guys that are
terrible, who major team even worsethan it already was. Then showhe got
hurt, he's not even gonna helpyou anymore. And now after all of
that, you're going to be willingto trade a guy whose value has never
been lower because he's injured all thetime and makes a ton of money.
Did I get all that right?Angels, you're the worst run franchise in
Major League Baseball? I said it. I mean, it's hard to argue
(01:48:11):
that there's there's a worse run thatat least fancies hisself as trying. Let's
put it that way. I'll puta caveat on there. They appeared to
be trying when the year began. They probably didn't know that Mike Trout would
play one more game than half theseason. Eighty two games play is what
he's going to finish with this yearhe does not return. Can I make
a prediction? Yeah? Sure?Whoever does trade for him. Should that
(01:48:35):
come to pass, he will magicallybe healthy, produce and help that team
win and go to the postseason justby changing the uniform. We Chelsea,
they're that curse. They're like theClippers in the nineties. Think about it
from the best possible way. Atleast next year. If Mike Trout's not
there and Shoheotani's not there, thenforty percent of your division is non competed.
(01:49:00):
Astros are getting easy. How manyhow many games do they play each
other now? Fourteen? Thirteen?Yeah, that's thirteen wins. Actually,
just kidding. I'm just kidding. It's gonna be like eleven and two because
we know they're gonna drop an egglike they did last night against the stupid
as the Astros beat the A's andAngels. So far, with two games
remaining of the twenty six, eighteentimes they've beaten them both nine times,
(01:49:21):
two more games, eighteen out oftwenty six. She said, so far
eighteen out of twenty four. Iwould not like any more. On the
lost side of the Ledger police, thank you? Can I get to one
that I missed earlier? Oh?Yeah, please? All right? So
you called for Patrick Mahomes sounding likean HBO character, and I was able
to find it of course edited.Oh so we started off, y as
(01:49:43):
you do a nice party for usat the hotel. The chain Smokers came
through DJ Colle, It came throughto Seattle. I had the gut boon
Man and the sound guard videos comingto much no way. Oh yeah,
talking six grills burn at all times, tiki torches, three whole pigs,
loads of macaroni and cheeses, bakedpotatoes, colored greens, Patrick and the
Boys. Now was Patrick on atalk show interview to be combined with Kenny
(01:50:09):
Powers. No, it wasn't.It was all Kenny Powers. That's right,
that's what I heard. Unbelievable. All right, Uh, we gotta
tell you one more time about thebest way to get rid of mosquitoes or
roaches, or ants or anything else. Hey, you got a possum problem?
You got you gotta sure, hopenot phone just ring? You got
(01:50:30):
a raccoon? Can you head onback to the house. Hey it's it's
doing it again. The roof isscurrying. I can hear it. Yeah,
raccoon up there in your stupid attic. Get Chris Campbell over there to
kill all those things, get ridof them and make sure they don't come
back. Twenty five years plus inthe business at seven one three, six
nine, four thirty four thirty three. When you call that number, you
(01:50:53):
get Campbell's pest Control, Campbell's pestcontrol, Campbell's outdoor design work, Campbell's
landscaping and lawn maintenance, Campbell's poolmaintenance and service as well. Handle all
those services brilliantly. I know manyof you have taken advantage of the opportunity
to use Campbell for some of thoseprojects and have been very pleased with the
work. Of course, you aregreat stuff. Nearly three decades in the
(01:51:14):
business seven one three, six ninefour thirty four thirty three. Pride themselves
on providing the highest level of serviceto their customers. Get them out to
the house seven one three, sixnine four thirty four thirty three for Campbell's
past control. Hey Sparky from theAstros broadcast team. Catch every Astros game
(01:51:35):
of Sports Talk SNE and iHeart Radioapp Home of your Astros. Yeah,
what's up? We talked about theparameters I guess of the Pat McAfee show
(01:52:06):
when it when it came to ESPNor when he made that move and got
all that money and they had tofire all those other people so they could
pay him. Remember that? Sure? Sure, well, I mean he
and Stephen A. Smith combined makelike, I don't know, eighty five
percent of the payroll at ESPN asfar as the talent, right, uh
huh? So I think Dan isthe one that brought it up originally that
(01:52:29):
they did, like the show dida disclaimer. Yeah, right before the
first show air they ran a wemight cuss be aware what happened after Aaron
Rodgers? Well yeah, let's hearthat disclaimer. Allowing program is a collection
of studies he's talking about happening againthe sports world. It is make comedic,
informative. The opinions expressed, Ijust show you got yes, you
(01:52:50):
sharely reflect the belief of their peers, their boss or ESPN, their back
bishop. Cuss words because yes,y'a cuba the real world talk. All
right, that's enough, that's enough. Jeez. Yeah, hey, hey,
hey, Pat McAfee dropped an apptoday. Oh my god, he
(01:53:13):
couldn't like but this is a guythat I mean, he had Aaron Rodgers
on his show once a week everyweek for a while there, and he
was going to be a regular guest, which I believe will probably happen at
times, we'll probably not quite asregularly. It would actually be better if
he did it every week. Well, I think that was the plan.
I don't know that there would keepthat in place now that his season is
already over. It didn't surprise meat all that Pat McAfee got so excitable
(01:53:40):
about discussing this that that he saidthat. And by the way, Pat
McAfee, and who was the otherguy that's uh, that's close to Aaron
Rodgers that we're both like, there'sno way he goes out like this.
Danika Patrick, No, I don'tthink it was noodlink stop. Is he
single right now? Uh? Maybe? How many nights in darkness is he
(01:54:08):
going to go in now? Ihope not. I hope he doesn't need
it because he's so distraught, ButI guess anything's possible. I'm just like,
I know everybody's saying that he doesn'twant to go out like this,
kind of like Charles Barkley here inHouston, he ripped his quad and he
came back to grab a rebound,I guess, and just make an apparent
like you can't really do that inthe NFL, They're not going to put
(01:54:28):
him out there for a snap andthen say, Okay, he came back.
I mean the other team would haveto go for it, like when
you let a basketball player like catchthe first two points in a game and
then they check out something like that. Yeah, it's it's not there's not
really a way to I mean,I guess there is, but people do
you can recover from it. He'sjust gonna be And the one thing he
has going for him is that whilequarterbacks don't necessarily need to be as explosive
(01:54:53):
using their achilles as say, Idon't know ninety five percent of other position
players in the NFL. If hisarm is fine, he can rest,
and his arm should be, butit's still a grueling rehab to get back.
It's gonna take the better part ofa year, and then you know,
that's another year off your odometer whenyou're at the age that he's at.
(01:55:15):
In a lot of ways, it'salmost it's a lot like justin Verlander,
but it's just such a different Imean, I mean it's to me,
it's not like it if you wouldhave, you know, thrown out
his elbow if he's having elbow surgerythat cost him a year, or had
neck surgery where or a college youknow something that's you know, this is
(01:55:35):
a structure in your elbow, inyour arm, which is all that you
have when you're a pitcher. That'sthat's what you use. He's this is
part of his foot, Yeah, but sliced up his achilles. Look at
Philip Rivers played with one knee fora game and then played a whole career
with almost no ability to outrun. There's twenty two guys on the field.
(01:55:56):
He was probably the twenty second fastest, including his own offensive line. He
had an entire career of not beingable to move. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers
can at the I mean I'm sayingthat the very very low end of his
return could at least do that.Plus he has a better arm. Still,
what's this contract situation. I mean, it'll he took a pay cut,
and I think the guaranteed money ispretty simplistic even over these first two
(01:56:17):
years or the two years. Sohe's he's back there next year, I
would think. So he's not goinganywhere else, I don't think so.
Do you think he makes sure thatyou think he's in the war room on
draft day helping out with offensive lineimprovements, or in free agency helping out
with offensive line. You think he'salready told them, Hey, Dwayne Brown,
(01:56:39):
you gotta go. It was yourfault. I don't think so this
summer, you gotta sign a threeyear restructure of his of his deal.
I don't. I don't think they'reactively hoping for his involvement on what they
should do moving forward. But he'stechnically under contract for two more years and
it would it would hurt them quitea bit dead money wise. They said,
(01:57:00):
hey, anybody can happen, wejust gotta Yeah, they're not doing
that. Plus their quarterback situation outsideof him, as we've gone over extensively
town Today's show. Not exactly tiptop shit. Sound weird saying it,
but I will have never been morebullish on Zach Wilson then. Now,
just keep in mind where that baris. I predicted they to win the
(01:57:21):
division and I can't have any dooversnow after four snaps of the season for
Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, they're gettingtheir team is is You went out got
Aaron Rodgers, just like the Broncoslast year got Russell Wilson. They thought
our roster. We're too good.We can't waste a year hoping if this
is out there, if we cango get Russell Wilson, we think we
can win immediately. Because of that, Let's do it. And the Jets
(01:57:41):
were in the same position. Theyknew last year they had a really good
team. There's nothing they could doin season. So in the off season,
when the opportunity presented itself, theywent out and said, yeah,
of course we want them. Wellwhatever, we don't care about Zach Wilson's
future immediately because the future is nowwith this roster. Well, the future
is still going to be now throughoutthe season and on into next season.
But their roster is so good evenin that division, even playing the NFFC
(01:58:03):
West as their division inside the AFCthat they see all four teams, I
think they're still in a pretty goodposition. I think they're that good that
even with Zach Wilson, I wouldnot write off a postseason visit for them
just yet. They play the NFCEast as well. That's why they are
playing the Dallas Cowboys Sunday afternoon nextweek. Tom Brady is not unretiring,
(01:58:29):
by the way, Yeah, Imean every now and then I figure something
out with the algorithm algorithms on socialmedia. So you remember how the I
don't know if you saw it.The Manning Cast auditions they put out before
Week one of the NFL season.Jared Goff, Livy Dunn, a bunch
of other people said, acted likethey were trying to audition for a spot,
and they left Tom Brady in thewaiting room and then he had to
(01:58:51):
call his age and he goes, yeah, I didn't get their Manning Cast
job. He made a commercial aboutunretiring recently. I guess I'll have to
come back and play football. Iimmediately you remembered he said that. So
I took the video of Aaron Rodgersgoing from the medical tent to the cart
and just let that run for afew seconds, and then immediately cut to
(01:59:11):
Tom Brady video saying, I guessI'm gonna come back and play Guess I
have to come back and play footballagain. And the cut line was first
called Jets make after Rogers goes down, And I threw that up on my
little old TikTok account at Adam J. Wexler. Somehow I got something right
for once, eight hundred and fourteenthousand views later, people are still commenting
(01:59:33):
on it was half that earlier.Dummy. He's a part owner of the
Raiders. He can't play. It'sstill the comments here are comical, Like
some people are so serious about this. Do you feel like me for a
little bit when people come after mefor the dumbest things, Well, they
weren't even talking to me. It'sother people. Man, that would be
great. Oh, he could dothe most Tom Brady thing ever, Go
play for the Jets. I gotpictures of him in a number twelve jersey
(01:59:56):
and the Jet's great. Oh,there's been a lot of photoshops out there
now live on the Manning cast lastnight, as the injury happened, and
as he got out of the cartand onto the he goes, oh my
god, I can't believe it.So I took that and took out the
football video and dropped in Jordan Alvarezhitting his homer against Robbie Ray, and
(02:00:17):
now you see Manning and Eli WattPeyton and Eli watching it and saying,
oh my god, I can't believethis, even though everybody in the stadium
that knew what was what could believeit. Because that's what Scott's Service does.
All right, one more segment togo here on a Tuesday edition of

of the Strolls. How I gotnothing for you If Roger has done playing,
all my studying is on Rogers play. I was watching Packers film.
I'll watch cal film to get usedto the jersey number. I have nothing.
Were you not watching the preseason? You didn't watch all three preseason games
(02:02:47):
and watch Zack Wilson play played thewhole time. What do you do?
What do you do? What? They don't do it every single week,
but they put out their schedule andusually I immediately forget it's a Manning cast
night, and then immediately because ofsome social media platform that I'm feverishly following,
I remember I always watched the gameswith them. Fitz he was on
with them last night. Johnny McEnroewas on with him last night, and
(02:03:10):
he'd actually done a sit down interviewwith Rogers earlier in the week. So
pretty good crew. And they madeFITZI stay like a man. We're going
over time, we gotta stay withus. And of course Fitzpatrick had the
ability to put on whichever team's helmethe wanted. He played for both of
them. What was his level ofchest hair? In what they did make,
they made fun of Eli for justsimply not having any Oh did they
(02:03:33):
Yes, they put a picture hisbeach photo up that you know, he's
famous for for not being able togrow or not just simply not growing it.
I just now thought of this onthe fly when you said that the
NFL, this is kind of likewith the NBA with load management, which
they've kind of tried to curtail, and actually the one of the few ways
they could have. Maybe we'll discussthat tomorrow because we're almost out of time,
(02:03:54):
but that's the way to get peopleto watch Thursday night games. You
should put the Manning cast on theWell, you're Amazon games, You're able
to grab all of your viewers andput it into one number, so you
know, to them, I don'tthink they mind that some is coming from
this pocket and some is coming fromthat. They put out the numbers on
the Saturday night game this past week, the Bama game against the team that
(02:04:15):
beat them, Yes, and theyhad a McAfee I don't even know what
they call it, a McAfee sidebroadcast. And between those two numbers,
it was the biggest number for themon a Saturday night game. And you
know, I don't know how muchhow long ago it's been, but they
do. They're they're getting eyeballs ona lot of these alternate broadcasts handful of
years ago when they brought it outfor the National title game and some of
the playoff games and all the varieI think usually a mega cast. It's
(02:04:41):
it's so infrequent that you get theopportunity what Manning often does with his guests.
They're so they're talking so much football, Why the formation? What they
would do here? What you're lookingat defensively? You know, literally,
they're they're running quarters here, they'rerunning they're doing that. And you got
the same thing when they would havethe coaches sitting in a room together doing
game, you know, and itwas all varieties of coaches. It was
(02:05:02):
great. I love it. Ilove all these options that we have.
Even Apple TV has the option ofmuting their people and listening to Robert and
Steve. Wish it would have hadthat option last year when Katie Nolan was
on the broadcast one year, oneyear of my life, I mean,
get back. I'm gonna guess thatwas like twelve games she worked like twelve
(02:05:24):
days, twelve too many? Whatdo you got on the on Deck show?
Astros? What you got on deckfor the Astros pregame show? Oliver
Lander all the time? Nice? How many strikeouts over? Under? Eight
and a half? Under? You'retaking the under against the A's. Yeah,
okay, I think he's gonna mowthem down with their system yesterday.
(02:05:45):
Okay, good to know. Well, that's that's gonna be straight ahead.
Yeah, talk to you about ClassicElites. Well, I got the opportunity
to do so here, and likeI said, I made a couple of
visits over there in the last handfulof days. Took care of some maintenance
for me. Took care of awindshield replacement. Hard to see through all
these spidering cracks in that windshield andit could not have been easier. Great
(02:06:05):
