Speaker 1 (00:07):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam, raised.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
By Earl.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Nolan, volted by the magnificent roller coaster ride that is
Houston Sports Chill late down for the only home grown
afternoon team is talking your Teams. Adam Clinton and Adam

(00:36):
Wexler are the eighteen.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
What's Up Houston? It is a Thursday edition of the
eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety four days, four days. Wex
Until the Dockets know where they're drafting in the lottery.
I'm sorry I have to do this. This to me
is actually probably more exciting than the Texans draft was,
mainly because they were picking like in the back half

(01:11):
of the first round.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Instapol. Do you wish the NFL did a draft lottery?
Actually it kind of do sometimes. So you got to
teams at nineteen through through thirty two, would you leave
them and the well, you made the playoffs, you're not
in the lottery. Teams one through eighteen, teams that might
have gone nine to eight or ten and seven and
missed the playoffs, maybe even eleven and six, you would

(01:33):
offer them ping pong ball lottery combinations to essentially move
up to number Can you believe you have a chance
to draft cam Ward, turn your whole franchise into an
average team with an average quarterback, which just happens to
be the number one pick this year.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
You do have to admit that of all the things
the NBA does get wrong when compared to the NFL,
the draft lottery is still I mean the draft lottery
to me, even though it's relatively speaking, much much shorter.
It takes a few seconds. They go to commercials too
much because that's just suspense. Just do it the suspense.
But it's it is to me still one of the things.

(02:12):
It's far more entertaining than the NBA All Star Weekend.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
There all that there were seven teams, there's fourteen teams
that don't make the playoffs. Thankfully this time around, the
Rockets were not one of them. There were really seven
teams that were awful the Raptors on Down, Raptors, Nets, Sixers, Pelicans, Hornets, Bobcats,
the team that plays in Charlotte, Washington, and Utah. Those

(02:35):
teams are awful, bad of basketball. They're not going anywhere.
The other seven teams that missed the postseason that are
in the lottery, Atlanta is an average team, Sacramento is
an average team. Dallas and Chicago are average teams, close
enough to five hundred to call them average, and in
Dallas's case, clearly injuries had a humongous impact on that,
as did Nico Harrison. Those teams don't You don't. Nobody

(02:58):
in the league should want a team like that to
get the Noumber one pick. Phoenix has way too much
talent to be playing basketball worthy of landing the number
one pick. And Portland they have had a hot high
enough pick the last several years that some of that
talent turned into we're playing pretty competitive basketball. This year
we won thirty six games, but all fourteen teams waited
in the manner that they are. I do think they

(03:20):
do a pretty good job, and especially since they give
the bottom three teams, it also kind of eliminates uber
super duper tanking because at some point, Charlotte, Washington, and
Utah we're kind of locked in. They all have the
exact same chance to win the number one pick. They
all have the exact same chance to land and stay
inside the top four. Whether you warn the twelve win
team or a nineteen win team, they all have the

(03:41):
same chances to get in there. It is exciting when
like the draft procedures are unchanged from last year. Now
the Rockets are involved, so there's more involvement with us
in excitement here this year. But the real reason there's
more excitement here this year is because there's a prize.
This draft lottery appears to have a prize. Some prizes

(04:04):
are better than others. Over the last three years, you've
had a generational talent going to San Antonio. This year
you have an extremely well liked prospect, very well liked
prospect and Cooper Flag and last year you had.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Crickets, you had reached Shepherd Man. Come on, now the
Rockets are excuse.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Me, A numbers in the twenty twenty four draft was
not a part of a playoff team's rotation. That is
not normally if you draft a player at number three A,
you're not usually a playoff team. So there's not much
to look at compaired to But you would hope and
in some other years, like if the number three pick

(04:45):
in this year's draft was Jabari Smith, Junior Amen Thompson
or Jalen Green, probably would have been a part of
the Rockets rotation. This year, Again, you're giving me a
little latitude.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Because it's not exactly, Lenn Bias going to the eighty
six Celtics before his unfortunate demise.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
No, and that wasn't even the number one pick.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
What was he too? Yeah? Who's number one in eighty six?

Speaker 4 (05:05):
That's a pretty awesome tale. Well, how did Larry Bird
get to the Celtics for crying out loud?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
It wasn't because they were bad? How did they drafted him?

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Though?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
And then they were allowed to sit around and wait
and before the draft and the next year, Yeah, this
is our guy. There's some the draft has changed quite
a bit. Yeah, and I do think the Rockets involvement
it is one hundred percent why the interest level is here.
And it's also why you push Fred's date back to
match the other free agents that have to make decisions on.
You're gonna get info about the lottery, You're gonna get
info on other teams. You probably have some pretty good

(05:36):
intel on the cap if you aren't having to make
that decision this week, but rather after all those things
have taken place. I'm not forecasting this to happen, but
it certainly could impact another team or two's decisions. There's
still eight teams playing basketball through the next week. There's
another four teams playing basketball for another month. There's another
two teams playing basketball within a week of the draft. Potentially,

(06:00):
any kind of significant injury to any one of their
older players like what happened with Damian Lillard could significantly
impact a team's thinking. So the more information the Rockets
have before making a how much for Fred? How many
years is there a deal to be made for any
of our guys, the better. And that's why they made
the decision. And luckily Fred and his agency were on

(06:20):
board with it. And they don't have to make a
decision for almost two months.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well four days to until you it's not like you're
gonna know one way or the other. I've been fascinating,
fascinated since rafel Stone and ima Udoka gave that press
conference a couple of days ago now to see the
reactions one way or the other from Rockets social media

(06:44):
reporters people like us as as far as deciphering what
it all meant one way or the other about what
they're gonna do. I mean, there are people that out
out and out are saying, well, clearly based on this quote,
they are standing back. They're gonna let it another year
of letting this this core jail together. And then there's
other teams that are or there's other people that are saying, well,

(07:05):
clearly this team is making a deal based on what
these guys just got done, saying it's hilarious.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
This is public commentary. They're saying it in public, right,
they're saying it in public. That's the point, which is
what every sports do. What did we do hear for
much of the show yesterday when we got to hear
from Brian Gregory the Phoenix Suns new GM, Well, not
a whole lot, because their owners already said publicly for
effect or for real, to put it out there or

(07:30):
to keep it close, it doesn't matter. He said it
for a reason. Well, Devin Booker's not going anywhere. We
already know he said it publicly, So you're free to
determine what you think that means. Just like with what
the Rockets said yesterday doesn't mean they're going this way.
You can always circle back and say, see, they told
us they were gonna beave this and they didn't.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Said he's never leaving LSU. Like that's what I'm talking
about here. It doesn't matter what they say or what
they even mean at one time or another because things change.
And I'm telling you right now, if it makes sense
for the Rockets to make a deal this offseason because
A it'll make their team better, b they won't have
to give up too much, or it's a fair deal,

(08:08):
or see some combination of both, it's you know, I
fully don't care what was said yesterday with regards to that,
because it doesn't matter what you say today on May
eighth about you know, what you feel about something can
completely be different based on things that happened to you
in your life over the next thirty days or whatever.

(08:28):
And then you talk about something the exact same way
on the exact same subject on June eighth, and you
have a completely different opinion on it.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
That's how life works. Or it's just simply was not
true and they just said it. Oh the lied, But
I don't even I mean, it is a life, it's
not true.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Remember in the rock who is the little guy? And yeah,
who else? That's pretty much so I Vanessa Marcel looked good.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
That's that's not pretty much it.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Then yeah, well, I mean she didn't have a she
had a minor role. It's good enough for me. Really
great scene on the roof with Nick before he goes.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
So I'm visualizing the rock now, So you want me
to lie? Yeah, that's right, Lie, who's the little guy?

Speaker 3 (09:06):
The little guy in that movie who's the head of
the FEDS plays the role perfectly like how a real
Fed would act. That That's what basically teams either will
do or are already doing in all across sports.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
The stuff about how they played and what they need
to do differently, and what players need to work on,
what they would have hoped to have unfolded that series,
how much they thought they were going to win it,
and now they wish they were preparing for Minnesota. That's
the stuff that I do think that there's a little
bit of value. I think Amy is pretty much a
straight shooter, even in this forum, and is going to
tell you from a basketball standpoint what he really believed.
And you know, where they could have been better offensively

(09:44):
as a coaching staff, where they could have been better,
you know, sending guys out there, especially Jalen, where they
could have been better individually? What does Jalen need to
work on, What does men need to work on? What
is he already good at? What are things that you
can already see for his future. That have you very
excited about that? The things he said about many of
their different players and how they handled everything. That's the
part of what was you divulged in this public forum

(10:07):
in a postseason end of season media session that I
do think has some pretty good value. But not only
could things change, it just could be this is what
we want the public to hear at this point in time,
and maybe even our players to hear publicly, even though
they'll hear the truth most likely privately, as they weren't
even at.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
That point done with all of us.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
They can handle it end of season meetings with each
of their individual players. They had gone through maybe half
of them when they met with us, and then had
set the other half for the following day.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Some people can't handle the truth, you know.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
I mean he said he was told he couldn't, but
I believe he could handle it just fine. I mean,
he lost the case, but he did, okay, as an attorney,
he did.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Yeah, Like he lost, right, I guess technically by the
letter of the law, but he won and that he
got the truth to come out.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Well, yeah, but you're he's not trying to get other
guys convicted or in trouble. He's trying to win the
case for his clients, which he was unable to do. Kafe,
Poor Daniel, even with all the great work with Kevin
and Demi on his side.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Kevin, Kevin looked like he was fifty years older than
both of you.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
You weinberg.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Deep down in places you don't talk about it, parties.
We gotta get some more. Uh, that's so far.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
That's one segment in The Rock in late nineties You're
best and then a few good men.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, that was early nineties ninety one. We need to
get with the program. The Rock was ninety six, twenty
five plus years old. We can do better than that. Again,
this is what I do. I know when random movies are.
Like we were talking about the new pope was selected today.
Everybody's all a buzz about it, not only because a
new pope is in place, but it came from Chicago.
It's an American pope, an American pope.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
It's an American pope because the best pope was always
going to come from America.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Believe me right, it's all about that, absolutely. It's about
the theme. As a unpracticing Jewish member of this country,
you care to practice it.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
I don't know that I'm so great at it. I
mean just practicing. I'm just trying.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
It's better than what I'm doing. It's good. I don't
even know it. It's complicated. That's my Facebook relationship, all right.
So what in the wide world of the NBA Playoffs
is going on? There was some two ends of the pendulum,
I guess, or two ends of the spectrum. I guess
I should say that was last night. We've got a

(12:31):
very very interesting best of X as it pertains to
the NBA Playoffs, and a lot of Rockets trade or
a lot of astros I should say trade chatter, and frankly,
Rockets trade chatter too, if we're being honest. Plus we'll
hear from Dana Brown and Brian McTaggart. There's a lot
to get to here. On a Thursday edition of the program.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
So, which drama filled NBA matchup would you like to tackle? First?
From last night? It was very Do you take the
easy one?

Speaker 4 (13:15):
There was no drama in the game played between Oklahoma
City and Denver.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
But I'll start there, and that isn't their drama because
of the way they just absolutely humiliated Denver.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
I mean, it took a while for Oklahoma City to
get a handle on this game. See if they could
maybe even up the series. We'll go to the first
quarter and see when exactly they shook free of the
Denver Nuggets. They weren't up ten until almost half the
first quarter was gone. They weren't up twenty until almost
nine minutes of the first quarter was gone. Just a

(13:46):
no contest game. And NBA Playoffs games at this level,
semifinals of each conference. I would hope we don't have
nights like that, but we did. It wasn't any closer
at any other point in the game. The game was
over nine minutes in, and the quality of basketball that
Oklahoma City played for most of Game one was on
display in full for all of Game two. They should

(14:08):
be kicking themselves for not being up two games to none,
because now it's going to take them five games to
get rid of the Nuggets instead of four. I mean,
I really can't argue with that. You're asking if you're
the Nuggets. You're basically saying, look, I know you're the MVP,
and I know you're awesome, but if you could just

(14:28):
be even better than that, then we have a chance.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
That's what he wearing Game one, barely, barely because they
won by one point. Yeah, and it wasn't even or
two points, and it wasn't even him, not his last points,
but he is.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
His excellence definitely paved the way for it.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Choker wasn't going to lumber up the floor fast enough
to get that shot and the time needed. That's why
Aaron Gordon had to take it from Russell Westbrook's hands.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
Yes, I would say that his work to get them
there in game one, talking about Nikola Jokicic he had
eighteen fourth quarter points, was probably pretty imperative to them
winning by two thanks to Aaron Gordon.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
It was noteworthy.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
On another hand, thankfully, not for how we would ever
need to continue the discussion, but at least it's noted now.
Playoffs began on April nineteenth, yesterday was May seventh, and
it was game number one in the postseason last night
for one Scott Foster.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Yeah, did you see what Legion Hoops released during the
day yesterday to absolutely fuel my nightmare? What it was
a montage of Scott Foster clips, which I'm not even
sure how they put together because I don't know where
you go to look for footage of that guy.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
It was set to enter Sandman and he's back. Maybe
I did see that night. I was like two plus
minutes long. Saw some other posts. Of of course, here's
Foster's return thunder down one nothing and fouling out the MVP.
Scott Foster with Nikola Yoka and I. That's why I said,
we're not. I brought it up so we would note

(16:04):
that he will now likely be working a regular postseason schedule.
He's obviously healthy enough to do so. So you'll see
him probably either other day or three or four times
the rest of this second round and on so forth.
The game was out of hand after nine minutes, had
no effect on it. It's no effect on the game
when the Warriors have any of his fouls in the first.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Quarter, when the Warriors starts trailing, he will walk through
that door.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
You know, there was a technical foul handed out to
Russell Westbrook. There was a lot of talk this or
there was a long conversation between the two, just typical stuff.
The other game certainly deserves much more conversation because of
how the Celtics have allowed themselves to get walked down
in both games by playing embarrassedly uncoached, unhinged basketball twice

(16:50):
in this series against the Knicks. They're now down two
games to I called it unhinged because I can't believe
what I'm watching.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Well, here's the thing. They are a defending champ that
is down. We've seen this before. Actually, I don't even
think the Rockets in ninety five. I know they were
down three to one to the Suns. Were they ever
down two to them?

Speaker 5 (17:12):
What?

Speaker 3 (17:13):
Or did they split the first two games? That's what
I can't remember. I know they were down two in
nineteen ninety four, but I feel like they were down
oh two to the Suns in the second round both
years in a row. I feel like that's the fact
the the uh history there. But regardless, I mean, because
they're the Celtics, because they're defending champs, and because they
still have that core together, I'm still not like, oh,

(17:35):
this is definitely over. But you're going to Madison Square
Garden for the next two that will be approximately two
billion decibels. I mean, that place is starving to have
a good Knicks team, and now they're coming home up
to oh in the manner in which they're up to
Oh I mean, I guess the Celtics are probably only

(17:56):
a team that could do this in the East, at
least take Oklahoma City to come back. But like that's
gonna be a tough, tough environment to play in for them.
Rockets were down.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
Two games to non to Phoenix both seasons.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
That's what I thought.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
There's no to me. I don't even look at it
like that because of how these games went.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
The Celtics.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
It's not that they're unable to figure out how to
beat the Knicks. They're just unable to have more figure
out how to have more points than them after forty
eight minutes because they're so dumb.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
They're just giving these games away.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
And I don't mean they made this huge mistake late
in the game, kind of like what happened in the
Nuggets opening game.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
They're just doing things.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Like I said, I cannot believe they have all these
coaches on the bench, and clearly a head coach, and
this is what they're letting happen, or allowing to happen,
or asking them to do. We didn't even get into
their third quarter of Game one. You can't it can't happen.
I can't believe it did.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Happen.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
You took twenty shots in the quarter. One of them
was inside the three point line.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
You can't do that. I cannot.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
You can't do it for the first five minutes of
a quarter, let alone all twelve. And the way they
let them back into the game last night, they could
not score. They could not figure out how to put
the ball in the bat way. Too much talent there,
the TIBs and his defense, and the quality of players
that the Knicks have one through five on the court
pretty much at all times. I respect it. And this
is not a bad team. They're not falling apart against
a much lesser opposing force. But you can't outplay these teams,

(19:15):
this very particular team for as much of the game
as you're not playing them for.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
And let's just let it all go away.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
And to score only ninety points and they were in
the nineties before they got to overtime in Game one two,
that's ridiculous for the talent they're putting on the floor. Absolutely,
this is it's both. I'll give it fifty percent on
the Jason Tatum Jalen Brown led group and fifty percent
on the coaching staff. They can win this series.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Rather easily.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
If you ask me today who I think is gonna
win the series, I'll pick the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
I kind of feel the same way because like it's
taken them completely gagging twice to be down oh two.
In other words, they were up big, meaning they can
get up big on this team. It honestly, it reminds
me a lot of the Rockets were your series, Like
why are they trailing this thing? They've been up double
digits on this.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Team every These leads are much Moniwice as big.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Yeah, well again, run in the second half, cutting their
teeth versus the defending champs doing what they're supposed to
do for much of the game until they stop doing it.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Yeah, you got guys who are probably, you know, Jalen
Brunson will land on definitely one of the first two
All NBA teams, first or second team. But you got
two Celtics who could land there in any given year,
and probably one of them at least this year. That
it should not be happening, not with as healthy a
group as they are, not with how they normally play.
I set it to somebody today, and I said it

(20:35):
to you and our listeners all throughout the year. I
thought they were basically sandbagging the regular season with how
they were playing. They were taking fifty threes, sixty threes,
forty nine threes pretty much regularity. They're the highest volume
three point shooting team in the NBA. And I said it, then,
there's no way this is how they're going to play
in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
It's a dumb way to play.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
I think they know it, but it's easy on their
bodies and they can probably win a bunch of games anyway,
and they did. They're clearly the best team in the East.
They were the best team in the East whenever they
cared to be, but they didn't. So they finished second,
and they shot a bunch of threes, and I knew
they wouldn't do it in the playoffs, and during their
series against Orlando they didn't. They shot forty threes or
less in all of those games. And then in this

(21:14):
series what they did in the third quarter. They went
back to it, and look what it did to them,
not for them, to them. As they are limping into
New York, I do think it'll be fun to see
the atmosphere there, and I think the Knicks pretty much
always show up, so they should feel good the math
says you only have to beat them two out of
the next five. They got to beat you four out
of five. The Knicks should be turning the station off

(21:37):
if they're listening on the iHeartRadio app to me right now,
what are you kidding me? You don't think we're gonna
win this series?

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Now?

Speaker 3 (21:42):
Why are they? Mike Tyson all of a sudden if
you don't like Antonia, station off.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
I'm not cursing or biting years or asking a reporter
if they want to get together, and we could then
bleep you And I allow you guys talk to me
like that, Mike. I allow I'm talking to you way
I want to talk to you. I allow anybody to
ask questions of me. Now, I don't say only these
reporters are allowed to ask questions of me, or only
these callers, only these listeners, or only these people on

(22:08):
social media.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
It's anybody. It's a wide open You certainly don't the
condition that they fornicate with you like he did.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
And I mean today it's six oh five when we
have our post show interview, our live post show interview,
I'm probably not going to mention any physical ailments that
might I might have they may have affected me today.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I mean, my back's not broken or anything. Final unbelievable.
All right, we'll take a quick time out. Best of
X is next. Paul Pierce is the star of the
show for this segment. You'll see why when we come back.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
The A on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Did you just see this?

Speaker 7 (22:49):
You should be putting out Between five and fifteen posts,
four hundred people were arrested for things that they said
on social media. History repeats itself type banguel, never doubt
that you're the one who Plus we go one building,
You're the BESTX.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Nothing's gonna have a top.

Speaker 7 (23:10):
You know you're the best of X posting every single day.
You know you're the best of X breaking the entire Internet.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
All Right, it's that time of the day. But before
we go any further, Also on X, Mike Garoffalo and
others reporting dolphins have agreed to terms with Quinn yours.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
I wish it wasn't a you know, like it is
for this reason, but I'm glad it is the way
it is for all the other reasons. Handful of years ago,
when people were sick of Sam Bradford getting fifty million
dollars before he played any NFL games. They put the
draft contracts in place. Essentially there's no negotiating, and especially
if you're outside of the first round, there's really no negotiating.

(23:59):
Here's what you're gonna make. This is what you get
paid because this is where you got drafted. Sign here
and your deal is done. And first round picks aren't
much different. There's some offset language that the teams have
to go through a little bit with some players. But
breaking news, player X has signed with the team that
drafted him. Unfortunately it's no longer major news. But that's
two days in a row. Dolphins backup quarterback Quinn you

(24:21):
Ors has been a part of the A team. All right,
let's see if we can make it three tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
That is true. I did not see that coming this week,
especially with all the things that we could have been
talking about. Monday should have been so much happier.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
I think he's the first quarterback to sign his deal,
so maybe we can go with that. I know Shador
has arrived at their facility since I saw that video
this morning. Texans will be visible to us tomorrow for
their rookie mini camps, so we'll get a look see
at Jay whatever, Jalen and Jalen and jj Den.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
I mean how many how many parents got together over
the last twenty years.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
I think Cole definitely your answer is yes, and I
hope Ac your answer is also yes, just because I
happen to see it again today. You know who Josh
Mancuso is? Yes, So he does videos. Oh yeah, he's
a TikToker or a reel maker content creator and one
of his videos does a lot of SEC stuff. So
that's why knew Cole would know who he is.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
He did it.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
He posted a video a long time ago of he
basically plays all the roles of the people in the video.
So it's just a little conversation. So maybe it's OU
fans talking to Longhorn fans talking to SEC fans, So
you get the idea. This was him being parents of
select baseball players and their coach, and so he was
talking about you know, what you have to do and

(25:45):
how you got to play and how much it was
going to cost and just the way that it is now,
and that's just the way it is now and it's
not like it should be. You was talking about how
much money it costs, and.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Okay, Bruce Hornsby.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
That's right, that's just the way it is, right.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
Yeah, some things will never change, all right. Well let's
just go that right.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
So anyway, there was a purpose there, But let's take
your path, okay.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Paul Pierce, legendary Celtic who by the way, doesn't believe
a marriage anymore. If you've been paying attention to some
of his podcasts drops lately, I don't know if you
saw that he said marriage is for old people and
rich people.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Paul Pierce poker playing videos made me stop watching Paul
Pierce videos period, because I got all I need to know.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
Well, Paul Pierce recent divorce, a who's getting taken to
the cleaners by his wife, is also the last guy
I want to hear about from when it comes to
marriage advice and when you should do it and what
age you should be and how much money you should have.
I think it's playing into it anyway. He also had
some thoughts on this this Celtic series with the Knicks.

(26:56):
After Game one. This was again legend and dairy Boston Celtic.
Paul Pierce, the Celtics.

Speaker 8 (27:05):
The Celtics lose games at all, I promise you to
I'm walking here tomorrow. I'm walking here. I'm walking here,
fifteen miles. I'm walking here in my road, no shoes on,
bare feet, walking out of the studio and seeing a dinosaur.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
Guess what happened, wex.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
I know the Celtics lost in the game. He made
this bet over I guarantee. He guaranteed they would win
and gave us an if they don't, which, as we
know in sports media, especially on sports talk shows, TV,
radio or podcast, it's always a dangerous game.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Well, I, to the best of my knowledge, nobody poked
their head out the door this morning and saw dinosaurs
or pigs flying for that matter. He didn't specify.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
You could have looked up and seen the pterodactyl or,
you could have poked your head out the door and
had your head bitten off by a velociraptor.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
But it didn't. Neither of those things happened. But you
did see Paul Pierce walking to work today.

Speaker 8 (28:01):
Man, it's really wild Dome. I can't believe this self.
That's got me out here like this. No, I really
walk in a here like this Now, I can't be
leave it. I got a loan, walk through down a
way out of here. I'm stepping th Here we go, man,
here we go?

Speaker 5 (28:18):
All right? Man?

Speaker 8 (28:18):
Every hour top of an hour, bey' all update on
where I'm at. Tell just got meat on what the
bolt of this gas station?

Speaker 9 (28:26):
Some of this gas station.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
He's literally walking down the street in his robe fifteen
miles or whatever it actually is. That's good stuff.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
When you do that, the people that you work with
or work for should absolutely and the person themselves you
capitalize on all this. I know it was short notice,
but you know, sponsorship on the back of the robe
like it's a jersey. Now he did what did he
say about his feet barefoot?

Speaker 3 (28:54):
He kind of missed opportunity there. Yeah, I mean you,
I'm not gonna expect him to walk fifteen miles bare
maybe five.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
The updates every hour on the air hour, I mean,
is he vlogging?

Speaker 6 (29:05):
This?

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Is he getting a sponsored is he? Is there a
radio station that's jumped on board like we would have Yeah,
and said, all right, well here he is.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
He's calling in.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
He's still about forty five minutes out with his walk.
He still got another what one mile to go? Yeah,
forty five minutes away. This was his and so he
said this on TV.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
But the make good if you will is on his
Instagram story at Paul Pierce on Instagram. If you will
want to follow that kind of thing.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
Paul Pierce post NBA gum flapping has been something.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I mean, it's not nothing is small.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
He's he's had, he's had quite an adventure as a
person with a microphone.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Look, I don't doubt and I don't din a camera,
Yes I do not. I don't take anything away from
his talent. Let's put it that way.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
Yeah, he's probably probably possibly maybe.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
Sniffing the top ten in franchise history. I don't eat,
I don't think. So think about that. Think how many
numbers they have in the rafters? How far do you
have to get down the list until you get to
Paul Piercet. He's known still more for two things that
have nothing to do well.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
One of them has something to do with basketball.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Yeah, being wheeled off the court because you bleeped your pants.
So what's the other one? Just I craped my pants.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
I just had a talk with your old grandma. Just
imagine this is a gallon of okay near mind. So
what's the non basketball thing? Do we already discuss it
the fact that his leather jacket saved his life. He
was stabbed multiple times in a nightclub, hence the nickname
Paul Piercet. And I didn't that's what Jimmithy used to
call him.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Looks like Paul Pierscet is at it again ever since
he survived getting nearly stabbed death in a nightclub because
he was wearing a thick leather jacket. He will not
stop flapping his gums. S.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
That's a tough one, man Like if a players involved
in something so nearly tragic he had He didn't bring
a gun, he didn't start a fight. He didn't also
have a weapon. He was a victim. He didn't shoot
himself in the incompletely Plaxico, right, And you're calling him
Paul pierced.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
By the way, Plaxico is the greatest first name for
a wide receiver in NFL history. No way, he was
an eva. The greatest last name of any player in
NFL history is bi Akapatuca. But I digress.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
That's a pretty good one. So yeah, Paul made good
on his bets. And that's why the series, like I said,
it's I can't believe what I'm watching either. I'm not
going to bet they're going to win the series. I
think they're going to win the series. I can't believe
they're allowing this to happen, and I really do think
they're allowing it to happen. It does sound like I'm
taking credit away from the Knicks. I kind of am, well,

(31:38):
because they're not the better team.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
They've won both games.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
They've outscored him in the allotted time, fifty three minutes
in game one and forty eight minutes a game too.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
I can't. This is why I mean, I still can't
agree or concede that the Warriors were the better team.
Still can't.

Speaker 4 (31:54):
Do you think the White Sox were the better team?

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Hell no? Do you think the Braves were the better
team in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
In the year they beat the Astros in the World Series.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Twenty twenty one, they were the healthier team.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
Do you think the Nope nope, nope, nope, nope, nope nope,
no team, Nope, nope, nope nope. Think Anthony Rendon, Juan Soto,
Steven Strassburg's team was the better team.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
No, you don't. I don't think either one of Max
Scherzer's eye colors were the better.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
I feel you you should. Baseball is a little bit
different because it's a whap. The Astros gagged that away.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
It started with them not winning a home game in
the first two and then it ended with them not
winning a home game in the last two. Not a
lot of close games in that series. Hey, here's a
Grand Slam in National's Park. You're not winning this game,
Jose Orkidi owns you facts unbelievable. Eighteen and nineteen back
to back, Houston sports fans were feeling it. All right,

(32:47):
that's about all we got on Paul Pierce, the third
best Celtic of the Big Three when they won the championship.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
The eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety, it.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Is the eighteen Sports Talk seven ninety Astros with the
night off after a day game, which always makes me
feel empty inside. It's just too long to wait.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
Well, you want to have to do it much the
next couple of weeks. The day off today is their
last day off until May twenty six. Light of that's
pretty likely they will have a six man rotation coming
out of that, So we'll see if that means everybody
just goes once. It should be what it means in
this upcoming six game homestand on her Brown set to
get it started and probably Ryan Gusto to get it finished.

(33:44):
Lance mcculler's junior is set to go on Saturday, and
everybody else that's in the rotation. We'll hear from Dana
Brown about his weekly visit on the Sean Salisbury Show today.
Normally it's Wednesdays. He had it today, so we'll share
with you a little bit of what he had to say.
That's coming up at three point thirty. Got a visit
from Brian MCA the MLB dot Com Astros dot Com
earlier on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross and Adam.

(34:06):
That's me, so we'll hear from him in the five
o'clock hour. But coming back home is where the Astros
have clearly played better baseball. Their road series this year
have all been two games to one, and after the
first road series where they won two of those three games,
they've lost the next five two games to one, including

(34:27):
these last two to not really awesome baseball teams. I
don't expect either one of them to be in the postseason.
Milwaukee's at least a competitive team, but not if you're
trying to be where you want to be. A team
you should lose too in the manner that they did.
And Reds and Royals, the two teams coming in Reds
are playing today in Atlanta, so either there'll be a
game over or a game under five hundred when they

(34:49):
arrive in Houston to play the five hundred Astros. After
thirty six games, eighteen wins and eighteen losses, last year's
team won the division and finished third among the division
wins and thus forced to play in the wild Card
round for the first time in a while. But last
year's team was six games worse than this team through
thirty six games at twelve and twenty four, twelve games

(35:12):
under five hundred. This much better version AC is not
twelve games under five owner. They're right at five hundred.
Clearly a much better team than last year.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
You know what I've noticed, And I saw somebody point
this out last night, and I was glad I wasn't
the only one that had seen this. And it's like,
it's not surprising. In fact, it's very on brand for
Major League Baseball and particularly social media and the media
that covers them, but more so in this case specifically
social media.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
You know who everybody's in love with now Arch Manning, No,
Sydney Sweeney, okay, major League Baseball, Mookie Bets no, shohy o, judge,
he used to play here. Kyle Tucker No, his friend Alex?

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yes, have you seen that lately?

Speaker 4 (36:03):
Why wouldn't you be with what he's doing?

Speaker 3 (36:06):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (36:06):
You know there's four players in the majors with an
OPS over one thousand, and he's one of them.

Speaker 3 (36:10):
You know, there's two teams that he used to play
for and now does play for, and they're both the
same percentage points with the record.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
I take it back, Alex Bregman's day today has dropped
him to nine ninety four.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Yes, he's currently batting though. Suck it, Breggy. I mean,
you would think that the Boston Red Sox are eighty
games over five hundred the way they are absolutely slobbering
all over this time. Tell us what their record is.
It's I believe eighteen and eighteen coming into today.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
You think there are five hundred team, that's what you're
trying to tell think, well, they're nineteen and nineteen technically bad.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
I mean, like that's fine. He's having a great start
to his year that he never had here, But like,
come on, man, I know he plays for the Red Sox,
and so now it's okay and it's acceptable to root
for him again. He's no longer a cheater because he
doesn't wear orange, and that's really the only how their
team is doing. And all that stuff is well and
good to add to the to the mix. But what

(37:02):
we suspected would happen is definitely happening. He's he's cleared.
He's a darling.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
He has been cleared of all booing and all negativity
because he doesn't play well.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
He'll still get booty Yankee Stadium, but for different reasons.

Speaker 4 (37:15):
Yeah, because he wears their costume, an opponent's rival costume.
It's all forgiven. It was the same for George. It
was the same for Carlos because he immediately got hurt.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
They see him.

Speaker 4 (37:29):
Honestly, I think all it took was don't put on
the Astros uniform and we're fine. It's not I don't
agree with it, but I know what's I've seen it,
and it's happening again.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
And while the Blue Jays and the Twins are certainly
not qualifiers for blue blood organizations, the Red Sox and
the Cubs certainly are right.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
But I'm not even talking about is he getting booed
at the stadiums. I'm saying the national perception as it's
being delivered by the national media and all the networks
and everything else. It's yeah, Why would you got to
remind me? Why am I supposed to say something additional
about Alex Pregnant. I'm just watching him play. He's playing
very well offensively. He's hitting a bunch of homer He's

(38:08):
got fifteen doubles. He's one of the best hitters in baseball.
Is there some other reason? Is there some angle I'm
supposed to take because I'm not familiar with that. I'm
seeing him in a Red Sox uniform. Everything's fine. You
have to remind them because it's like way down their
list now because they completely forgot about it completely. Yes,
because he doesn't play here anymore. But if he had
signed here, it would still be here.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
You know, he's he was consistently up to last year,
the second highest boogetter on the team. You know, Jose
is always going to be first, which is the most
ironic theme because every one of these idiots booing him
has no clue how stupid they look.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
Right, But send the exact conversation we had and now
apply it to al Tuve. He's the only one now
that has worn the uniform for this entire process, the
cheating years, that's worn it as a hitter.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
Thank you, plants. Mccullors would like a word. He's gonna
get boots so bad? So were they?

Speaker 4 (39:02):
Did they boo him this past weekend on the road,
which it doesn't matter while he was pitching?

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Did they say?

Speaker 4 (39:10):
I don't think that the uh, the team he was
up against, had had much to say about this.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
They're not booing Alex Bregman because he's on another team
that also cheated the last time they won a World Series.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Again aside, this is what we're getting. What we're here
of the cheating scandal. What's being posted is non fan related.
It's strictly here is a baseball player. He's playing good baseball.
He happens to play for a team We talk about
a lot, So we're gonna talk about him a lot.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
Because he's really worse.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
They're absolutely pretending there's nothing else to it.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
The fans are understandable because they're dumb, right, a lot
of them are.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
But what should they be doing? Of course they should
be applauding them. Of course they should be. We're hearing
it more. They're not actually talking about it as much
as we are pretending they are. We're just paying attention
to it. More like we went through a whole day
yesterday and we didn't bring up up once. The Jeff
pass An article on are we witnessing the greatest right
handed hitter in the history of our entire.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Solar system? I honestly he looks like the South Park meme.
And that's all I'm gonna say about it, you know
the one? Yeah, Oh, which one? I can't describe it
on SCC regulated station. Let's just say that a character
is sitting at a computer screen.

Speaker 4 (40:25):
Characters saying computer screen, Okay, this is Jeff Passing. Yes, huh.
I'll look it up during the break, Okay, then we'll
talk about it.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Yeah. So we come back speaking to the astros. MLB
network is now just throwing out trade proposals. Oh, astros
are going to get better. I love it. Apparently, Well,
maybe one segment they'll get better and one segment they'll
get worse. We'll have both of them for you next.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
The eight on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
Ninety two, Lifelong Houston Sports guys aimed at him, talking
your team, Adam.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Clinton and Adam Wexler are the a team.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
That is three o'clock on a Thursday edition of the
eighteen xac Cole Thompson here with you.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Set you up with what we got.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
Coming up the next three hours, and maybe a little
clean up from the last hour. A couple of items
that we discussed that we can finalize. Certainly the Paul
Pierre story we can finalize. I went off on a
tangent during that segment and kind of lost track of
my own thoughts and now remember where I was headed
with that. Dana Brown's gonna be heard from in about

(41:41):
half an hour from his visit this morning with the
Shawn Salisbury Shows. We'll have that four three thirty Brian
mctagger around five point fifteen, we got what's up with that?
Our signature segment on a Thursday that comes your way
at four point thirty, and obviously a little bit of
a discussion about the team that has the day off,
a team that has the postseason off, and a team
that's about to start their on field portion of their

(42:03):
off season. That's Texans, the Rockets, and the Astros in
reverse order.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Start with the Astros. Well, here's the deal. We are
obviously very aware us being Astros fans and what have you.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
That.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Well, the offense leaves a lot to be desired most nights.
Now I realize we're coming off a game in which
they just put up nine runs, so I know that.

Speaker 4 (42:31):
So this is Frank Dreben. Nothing to see here, Everything's fine.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
Disperse is that the Iraqi information minister that was like
everything is fine while the bombs were going off behind it.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
Something Frank Dreben is of course from police squad, and
I make it gun for those that don't know.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
But I thought it would be funny if I just
gave the other guy the same name.

Speaker 4 (42:52):
Yeah, nine runs yesterday, sans jord On Alvarez, who's still
probably further away than the minimum. But that it's just
a guess. Find out a little bit more as the
Astros get to the ballpark tomorrow and hopefully hear a
little bit about that.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
But yeah, they scored nine runs.

Speaker 4 (43:08):
Had they had games like that previously on the five
games of the road trip they'd already played and lost
four of, well they would be coming back home several
games over five hundred all is not.

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Well, no it is not. But yeah, you know they're
not the only team that's five hundred, like Alex Bregman's
new team is five hundred.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
But anyways, well, their their injury is a little bit
more one of their injuries is a little bit more significant.
The causes knee blow up probably a little bit more
serious than the minor hand injury.

Speaker 3 (43:37):
Well, it was the best news possible they could have
gotten on him. But what are your like, you right
now here on May eighth, what are your thoughts on
the Atlanta Braves remarkable recovery? Mm hm, it was like
it was bleak, like worse than last year's Astros start
bleak by far pretty much. Yeah, and they've somewhat righted
the ship. But if they don't fully recover, if you will,

(44:01):
because you just called it, what now, what kind of
recovery remarkable? Remarkable? What if it's not fully what if
it doesn't fully come around? What if they suck? What?

Speaker 4 (44:11):
Well, they were zero and seven, so you can't suck
orse than that. Now their record is seventeen and nine nineteen,
so they've gone seventeen to twelve. They're five games over
five hundred and a stretch of just under thirty games.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
That means they're probably pretty good. But if something goes wrong,
if they fade back to the pack, or if you know,
parts start getting sold off for whatever reason, which I
don't know why they would.

Speaker 4 (44:35):
I mean, after they finished with Cincinnati. Today they're playing
a team who's just fired their manager, so that's probably good.
It looks like they might even miss Paul Skeins on
that roll through, so that's good. They got the Nationals. Yeah,
but you're the terrible team. You're just talking the Boston
Red size. You can't even win more than a half
their games.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
You go after today, they're doing what everybody did last
week going into the series. The White Bradys aren't any good.
Tell me why you're telling me that. I can't tell you,
but someone else can, and I'll let them do it
right here. Number three, Sorry, Harold, I know you think
the Braves are still playoff team. They're turning things around.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
They can have above five hundred record by the.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
End of the week end. But Marcelo Zune, if they're
out of it, they got a movie. His value is
through the roof. When he plays, he's massively important. So
many teams need slug.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
They will give.

Speaker 10 (45:20):
Them tons of prospects for one Marcelo Zuna.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
Marcel Ozuna somehow, some way being traded to the Astros.
I don't even know what they're giving up for him.

Speaker 5 (45:33):
There.

Speaker 4 (45:35):
They've been buyers pretty much all the time for almost
a full decade, been buyers. I'm sure if they're in it,
they will attempt to buy again. But they're not landing
a player of that caliber. What did they do last year?

Speaker 3 (45:50):
What did the year?

Speaker 4 (45:51):
What did they do the year they landed Trey Mancini
and the year they landed Christian Vasquez?

Speaker 3 (45:57):
That's what you're looking at.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
You're not landing one of the biggest available power bats
at the deadline. If you're the Astros, how would they
or how would they do that? They're not What are
they giving up? Well, first of all, they don't. I'm
not sure because I don't know what the Braves would
want in their system for him. And second of all,
see a minimum salary guy, this Marcel Ozuna character. I

(46:21):
don't is the a minimum saying? Is he making like
eight hundred seven hundred thousand dollars or something like that
so he will fit under the very very tight constraints
of staying under the luxury tax threshold, the CBT figure
the Astros are very very aware of, even though they
got a touch of wiggle room. I'm making an assumption
that an acquisition by the Astros, first of all, I

(46:44):
would love it because that means they've played another three
months of baseball and are in it or feel that
they have a chance to win it. So they're going
after somebody. He's a rental at about sixteen million, so
their portion of it, obviously you'd be about a third
of that.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (47:01):
It's not crazy, but it still strikes me as more
than they would be trying to get a player that
other teams would be offering more for. Right, just at
some point, you can't keep trading for guys.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
Right, and when these guys, especially after you've traded one
of your best players and let the other one walk
in free agency.

Speaker 4 (47:19):
Well this is more like first the Verlander trade still
is a head scratcher, and I know he wasn't awful
when he first re arrived, but just didn't like it then,
certainly don't like it since the picture they let walk
to go sign with the Mets was a smart, smart
business move he's very unlikely to be the pitcher he

(47:42):
once was as the years go by, and that was
the first year of him not being that pitcher, and
you were smart and said, even if it's a short
term deal, we're not the team that's paying forty million
dollars for that. And now he's working on his third
consecutive year of not being a front of the rotation starter.
But in the middle of that, or early stages of
that first year of those three years, you traded Ryan
Clifford and Drew Gilbert for him. Clifford's having an awful

(48:05):
year at Double A, by the way, for the Mets,
and Gilbert is probably one roster move away from being
called up. He's gonna play for the Mets this year.
He's having a very good year at Triple A. And
he was the much closer, much more ballyhooed earlier draft
pick because he was such a star player in college
and Clifford had tons of potential still does, but you
drafted him out of high school smartly.

Speaker 3 (48:26):
That's when you win in the draft.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
When you draft a player later and are the team
that's manipulated their allowable funds to sign a player over slot.
It was a smart move. It was a less smart
move to move him in that deal. They're running out
of players like that that they actually have to count on.
They need some of the for the reasons you just said,
Kyle Tucker's not here, Like, look at their outfield right now,

(48:48):
what's it going to be next year?

Speaker 3 (48:50):
Is it any better?

Speaker 4 (48:51):
And why would you think it will be because Cam
Smith's better, because Zach Desenzo is better. I mean, I
hope in the case of Cam, yes, But while Zach's
having a really nice year and he's someone they like,
we're not forecasting him to be a clear plus level
everyday player, are we, because why would we?

Speaker 3 (49:11):
I just to me and I don't know. I mean again,
the trade deadline's what very end of July ish in
that realm, Yes, so a lot can happen between now
and then. But I mean, if you're guessing just based
on what's on the roster right now, how they're playing,
and an, I know, things can change because it's only

(49:32):
May eighth. If anything, I would think the Astros are
going to being sellers for the first time in a
long time.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
Yeah, I think they would have a hard time looking
at themselves in the mirror and the way that they
have operated, I think they maybe they should, and maybe
you're painting the right picture. I don't know that they will,
though I don't think it's too hard to do it
inside this clubhouse anymore. If they had a different team,
like if last year's team was sitting in this kind
of spot at that point in time, maybe with you know,
a team that's getting Kyle Tucker back and has Alex

(49:57):
Bregman and still has ord On playing the way he
was last year, and Al Twuovey has just signed his deal,
probably a little bit different. If this year's team is
kind of bouncing through the season and they're fifty seven
and sixty or sixty one and fifty eight. I mean,
if you're sixty one and fifty eight, you're probably a
couple games out of first, three four, five games out
of first. Maybe the first place team is, you know,
sixty six and fifty six or.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
Somewhere in that neighborhood. You're in it.

Speaker 4 (50:21):
You don't have to be that many games over five
hundred with two months of baseball left post deadline to
consider yourselves in it. But if you're at that roughly
five hundred mark, you should be recognizing you're not awesome,
you're not clearly great. Spun it all into the Astros perspective.
But I do would add the prayse aren't trading, They're

(50:42):
not gonna be sellers. It's fine to think that. I
think the opposite. It's just a debate we might have.
If I was sitting there with greg A and Harold
or whoever was on set.

Speaker 3 (50:52):
Craig was the one saying that, yeah the way, I
just in case you didn't know.

Speaker 4 (50:55):
I don't think they're going to be outside the playoff
picture too.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
We need to move on.

Speaker 4 (51:00):
They're getting something more helpful to their team, like if
they have bullpen issues or they have starting pitching issues
and Ozuna can help them maybe make their team better,
just differently. I don't think they're gonna be sellers for sure.
I mean I mentioned they lost their first seven games.
They were actually eight games over. Twelve games later, which
means they were still playing under five hundred baseball, and

(51:21):
then another last eighteen games they've gone twelve and six.

Speaker 9 (51:25):
There was another name mentioned that I do think actually
could make sense.

Speaker 3 (51:29):
With the Astros, or just mentioned, Cedric Mullins.

Speaker 4 (51:34):
That team is a perfect team to talk about as sellers,
and they don't have as many players to sell because
they're so young. But he's a great name to discuss
the the Orioles. Here's how bad the Orioles are. I
can't believe it. The Oriols are happy that the Rockies exist. Oh, like,
their record is awful, They're pitching is awful, their baseball

(51:55):
is often.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
Jeff, the lieutenants let this happen. And they just lost
again today already. Yeah, it's three o'clock, so thursdays in
the books. Yeah, five to two, lost to Minnesota, to Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (52:08):
To Carlos Correa's carcass. He's come around, alliteration. He hit
a nine hundred foot homer this week.

Speaker 3 (52:13):
Oh good good? How many is that too?

Speaker 4 (52:16):
It's just a couple and Mullins for to his credit
as he maybe gets moved, he's had a little bit
of a bounce back here, got an ops a little
bit above eight hundred. This definitely is a player that
could net something in return and helps the team he
goes to. Maybe this team, we shall see.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Yeah, the eighteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (52:48):
I'm just gonna say it before we get to the
other trade situation. I wanted to talk about here involving
the astros. Really Rockstar Games, really May of twenty twenty six,
May twenty six, twenty twenty six, we got to wait
that much longer to get GTA six? Are you serious
right now?

Speaker 4 (53:07):
So zero percent they're just now having the idea of
what they want in the game. One hundred percent is
they're putting the finishing touches on the exact marketing plan
they have for its release. Where do you think they
are in the creation of the game, knowing that it
will be launched on May twenty six, twenty twenty six,
zero to one hundred, Like they got to be pretty
close to the centish line.

Speaker 3 (53:26):
An ia right minimum. So what's left?

Speaker 4 (53:29):
What do they need to do over the next thirteen months?

Speaker 3 (53:32):
I don't know, because here's my thing, No less people
are going to buy this thing if you release it sooner,
Like all you're doing is delaying the money you're about
to make. This is six.

Speaker 4 (53:44):
Yeah, so between one through five they're having their meetings
and saying how much lead time do you think tease time?
Do you think we need to get massive sales and
drum up interest and have people frothing at the mouth
for it three months six months. Do you remember another
instance of one of the first five games released they
announced thirteen months out?

Speaker 3 (54:06):
Well, I can tell you this. The last time they
released the current game that we're all still playing still,
GTA five was released in the fall of twenty thirteen,
I believe, like I specifically remember where I was living
in an apartment over Yonder in the Galleria. Very single,

(54:27):
very single at the time, so single. I wasn't playing
that game a lot. I just I was doing morning radio.
That was the reason I wasn't playing the game a lot. Oh,
what did you think was the reason?

Speaker 4 (54:39):
I thought you were treating your single days? Accordingly, I was,
who's next.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
On the game? What's the matter with you? So anyways,
I'm playing this game, and I'm like, ah, they'll come
out with a new version, and like, I don't know,
two three years. I mean, imagine if they did this
with like Call of Duty or any other of the
staple games on any of the systems. We're still waiting

(55:07):
around on it, and I think the original announcement was
quarter four of this year would be as late as
you would have to wait. No, we're going to push
it back to over a year from now. Still, it's
only May eighth.

Speaker 4 (55:18):
Right, so you're basically talking about me teasing ahead to
the Rockets drafting Tyrone Riley. Yes, he will be a
Rocket in twenty twenty seven. Next year's draft lottery will
be complete.

Speaker 3 (55:32):
This year's hasn't even been completed before this game is out.

Speaker 4 (55:36):
Now, if they have a lottery pick next year and
they land inside the lottery, how about this, we could
be hosting a press conference with this player and his
dad in attendance, Cam and dad Carlos from Duke University,
Cam Boozer.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
Yeah, no, that's not happening. Nobody from the Jazz needs
to play for this organization, not even Derek.

Speaker 4 (55:58):
Do you think we could get your dad to put
on a Rockets uniform? That'd be pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
Now, Hey, we think you can get your dad to
use some shoe polish again again.

Speaker 4 (56:06):
Yeah, this is a good There's gonna be a lot
of anticipation for this. And you know what it also brings.
What a guarantee of a no off day for me leaks.
Oh well, yeah, there's already that. I mean, they released
the trailer this week too. I think, in my opinion,
soften the blow of this so do you know anything
about what's there that wasn't previously there that you didn't
know before the trailer was released?

Speaker 3 (56:25):
Like, what's going to be a part of this one
that makes it so much better? The storyline?

Speaker 4 (56:28):
Oh, you mean the game itself, for it will include
features just insane, that's a given, right, Yeah, but like
like plot, you're playing five right now, You're playing five
on the same now, what would you.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
Oh my god, I can't believe six is going to
have this? Well, okay, So I posted this on my
Instagram last night. Somebody had posted a picture of the
current version right and said the caption this was an
ex post. The caption said, after seeing the new trailer,
how am I going to go back to this? It
really is that big of a differ, which is crazy

(57:01):
to me because it's the same platform, it's the same engine,
all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (57:04):
But the game, I believe it's blown fans away. It
quote looks like a movie.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
It does. The trailer is actually see this is the
thing that they usually would get you in the trailers
for all of these versions in the past. And believe me,
I remember some of the old ones, like when I
was in college, when GTA four came out and it
was like I'll never forget the songs they used, and
Grand Theft Auto four available Sunday, like that kind of thing,
and we were all like, oh my gosh, I got

(57:29):
a graphics as.

Speaker 4 (57:31):
People can't believe how good the beer looks. In Grand
Theft Auto six.

Speaker 3 (57:39):
There's a female lead all I care about, and I
don't know the answer to this. Yeah, sure, she's I
mean for an animated whatever. She's hot. She is hot.
I don't care. I have no shame. You shouldn't.

Speaker 4 (57:51):
There's a whole group of people out there that appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (57:53):
My wife's one of them. She can't wait to play
this thing. You know what? Her only question is? Is
it two players? The two players? A two player?

Speaker 4 (58:00):
I'm familiar with some video games and some options you
have on those games, Football games, et cetera. Madden, you
have the ability to create a character. Yes, yeah, how
does that fly in GTA?

Speaker 3 (58:13):
Why haven't you asked about the characters I've created for
five so far, including Orienthal You mean a white Bronco
week horrible.

Speaker 4 (58:21):
I can't believe I'm playing these this game on these
awful five level graphics when now I know what six
is going to look like. Yeah, like degenerates will be
creating characters on six that are ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (58:32):
What was oj wearing when I created him? Go blazer nope,
White polo nope. Gloves there you go, you're getting warmer.
Was anything on his clothing?

Speaker 5 (58:44):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (58:44):
It's red? Well this was before before what the crimes
he committed in the When did the crimes get committed? Well,
you can keep committing them over and over again because
it's a video game.

Speaker 4 (58:56):
No, what when did his crime that he was not
found chrimely guilty of could happen nineteen ninety four, So
you're created this character when well after that. But it's
based on what he looked like the night of So
I ask you again, what is he wearing? You're wearing
a beanie? Yep, this is he wearing all black, Brune

(59:16):
Ali Bru, Molli Bruno, Molli Bruno, Molly shoes. Yes, those
quote ugly ass shoes he's wearing. Now, can you put
gloves on him? Are you allowed to pick gloves that
aren't the right size? Well, they don't give That was
how the line was delivered by Johnny. But I just
said it that way anyway.

Speaker 3 (59:33):
Yeah, what he should have said was the blood soaked
these things. So now they don't fit because he stopped
taking his mark.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
The right size. You can't give him no time. No,
that doesn't work.

Speaker 3 (59:43):
Doesn't work. I don't know what he said. I can't
remember the line the gloves don't fit. I know.

Speaker 4 (59:49):
So, have you created any other A team appropriate characters,
because that's a very big part of the eighteen I did. Oh,
he got a character. So what kind of car does
he drive? He doesn't drive anything.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
What does he do on the game? He gets driven?

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
Oh, he's a passenger. Well, he doesn't sit in the
back seat, does he everything? Does he have a driver?
Everything's gold like his building? Right, that's awesome. So what
is he wearing a blue suit and a red tie?
Of course, straight out of the set of his TV show?

Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
Sure right, I mean he looks exactly the same now
as he did on The Apprentice. He's just firing more
important people. Now, you create any characters of his relatives? No, okay,
give us give the eighteen listeners one more character creation
that I've made.

Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Yeah, well, I may appropriate to the show if possible.
Those two were I did make Ace Fentura. Oh okay,
like like I went and looked at the picture. It's
a long story. I don't even remember why.

Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
So you have to understand if you guys don't, if
you're not familiar with north Side Mike on X, he
and I would play online back in the day using
a headstet. I mean, this is like total nerd out,
just all I mean and hoping that it's embarrassing.

Speaker 4 (01:01:07):
Kids were playing against you in their basement so you
could yell at them and be meanies.

Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
It's not even like, okay, I'm forty four years old
and I'm not even like too ashamed to admit this.
Not only would we do that, we would talk to
each other with like voices, okay, like we're doing just
insane horrible things because it's GTA. It's not like just
any game when you get online and you talk trash
whatever has it always had the same rating? Yeah? M
A okay, Like, don't play this if you're my six

(01:01:33):
year old.

Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
Says life stands for mature audiences, and the picture you're
painting is of a very immature player.

Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Very just wait until I tell you. At one point
one night, for whatever reason, we were reciting lines from
Die Hard to each other, only there's a catch. We
were doing it as Kermit the Frog and Teresa comes in,
I kid.

Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
You not, it's what are you doing? Who are you
talking to this great? What's wrong with you? Come to
It's like one o'clock.

Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
In the morning. We're both way way needing to have
gone to bed earlier than this Mike and I and
she goes, I'm going to divorce you if you don't
shut the hell up. Very good, snailed it, And like
we're literally talking to each other as kram At the Frog.
I can't believe I'm revealing this, But you.

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
Know what, I'm looking forward to May twenty sixth, May
twenty seventh of twenty twenty six, So you'll be back
into work.

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
Would you? Would you do me a solid? I want
you to get a PlayStation five and I want you
to buy the game so we can play online together
with the headset and we can stream it.

Speaker 4 (01:02:35):
So this is May twenty sixth of twenty twenty six.
Huh that's a Sunday. Yeah, maybe I have the date wrong.
It's May, that's right, it's something. Well, what makes you
think I'm not taking the following Monday off? You just
said you only needed that day. That's not what I
say Sunday. You're taking words out of my mouth.

Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
I'll be taking the day off. I'll be calling you
gotta burn a day, all right. So there you go.
There's our GTA six up ate.

Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
It leads us directly into a conversation with the general
manager of the Astros, Dana Brown, who visited with the
Sean Salisbury Show this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
We'll hear from him next.

Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
The A team on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
It is the A team Sports Talk seven ninety. Wex
ac Cole Thompson with you on a Thursday afternoon. You
mentioned Dana Brown making a visit to the station today.
It's not as regularly scheduled time that's.

Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
Usually Wednesdays at nine am, so pushed it to today.
The Astros were fresh off of finishing off their road trip,
so he was coming in off of a dub heading
into a six game homestand Reds first for three, then
the Royals for three after that. I've seen the Royals
and they've already seen their more than their fill of
National League Baseball teams. So full conversation with Dana Brown

(01:03:58):
and Sean this morning can be found it's Sports Talk
seven ninety dot com portion we'll share for you. Here
begins with him talking about finding the identity of this
twenty twenty five Houston Astros team.

Speaker 5 (01:04:11):
I mean, we get a feel for what the team's
identity is, you know, coming out of spring training, and
it's just a matter of when the guys hit their stride,
you really see it come to fruition. And so I mean,
we we feel like this team has a really good identity.
It's just you know, we were waiting on that offense
to really turn around. And so this this, this is

(01:04:33):
a really good team.

Speaker 10 (01:04:34):
So when somebody asks if I were to say, right
the second we ended spring train and say Dana, what's
the identity of the Astros, what would you have told me?

Speaker 5 (01:04:41):
Yeah, I would say, Look, we're going to have a
nice combination of hitting and pitching along with good defense
and a good bullpen, and so that that's a recipe
for winning a lot of games. And so once we
get on all cylinders, you know, we're going to you know,
we're going to be explosive. So you know, you know,

(01:05:03):
just to be at five hundred right now. Look, we're
we're grinding through it, you know, grinding through a few
injuries as well, and so I think this team is
going to be really good and they're gonna turn it around. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:05:13):
How close are you Data in your mind the breakthrough?
How close?

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
I think. You know, we have a few guys that
are notorious for starting off slow. I think I think
we're right on the brink of turning this thing around.
I'm hoping that it's really starts this homestand we've been
playing very well at home this year, and so you know,
we can get the breakout offense going. You know, I
think you know, that's when we're going to get the
multiple games over five hundred and so you know that's

(01:05:39):
the goal, is to get this offense going.

Speaker 10 (01:05:42):
GM Data Brown for his weekly visit here on the
Seawan Stylesbury Show. Dana, I was able to sit down
with Joe before you guys went to spring training, and
what an engaging time it was. And we were talking
about from a rookie manager. And I remember last year
I asked you, is there a big learning curve for him?
You say, no, He's been in baseball long enough. She
should fit right in well, Bingo and and you know
you're going to learn along the way like a like

(01:06:03):
a new player, but he'd been in baseball, so from
year one to year two and asking him about, oh, yeah,
there's a lot of growth that happens. Have you seen
growth from Joe even though it's early in year two,
have you seen growth from a rookie year manager to now?

Speaker 5 (01:06:17):
Yeah? I mean, I think you know you grow in that.
You know, you learn through your decision making process. You know,
certain decisions that you have to make that you know,
whether it's to you know, play this guy or you
know not play this guy, pitch this guy or not
bring this guy in. There's a learning curve, you know.
You know, Joe's experience, though, will will help him to

(01:06:39):
bypass a lot of the learning curve. And so you know, look,
this guy has has been a good leader down in
that clubhouse. He's been here for a long time. His
presence is is well known, and he's got big respect
down there, and so we look for big things.

Speaker 10 (01:06:57):
Peter Brown joined us for his weekly visit Dana with
Lance McCully after his first start and then coming into
somebody had asked me and I said, well, I want
to see how he feels from start one to start two,
coming back after you know, all the injuries and how
he's feeling, So just kind of hanging around, what what
what's the kind of the feel for him on the
recovery process before he gets to make his second start.

Speaker 5 (01:07:18):
Yeah, that's a good point. You know, it's all about
how you feel after that start, and uh, you know
thanithfully Lance said, he feels good, and so that's a
good thing, and so you know, you know, I look
forward to good things at his next start. I was
very u satisfied with his with his start, you know,
he threw uh three and two third scoreless innings, pitch

(01:07:40):
count got up a little bit, uh, you know after
especially after he hit that batter, but stuff looked pretty crisp.
Uh change up, it's really good. Fastball's coming out real good,
uh and the sliders working. So you know, look, he's
he's working to get back to the old Lancemic Colors.
I think he's right there on the brink. And overall,

(01:08:01):
he looked good, very satisfactory outing, and I expect good
things to come out of him the rest of the way.

Speaker 10 (01:08:06):
All right, update on on yourd on and where we
are and how he's feeling.

Speaker 5 (01:08:10):
Yeah, feeling a lot better. You know, look, ultimately, you
know your lions had you know this, you know before
you know the you know, the muscle strain in the
right hand. You know, these power hitters, man, you know,
they swing big bats and sometimes you know, you know,
their hands will will get a little aggravated. The good
thing is that we don't think this is going to

(01:08:32):
be long. We jumped on it right away when he
said he didn't feel good, and so you know, this
muscle strain shouldn't you know, shouldn't take long at all.
You know, hopefully we get him back here, you know,
within the next week or so. But you know, I think, look,
that was probably part of you know, what he was
feeling and couldn't get through it, and this thing happens,

(01:08:54):
and and so that the best thing is to let
it heal, give him some time af and then get
the real jord On on the other side of this injury.
And so you know, but he's doing well, the pain
is gone, and we just have to let it, uh,
just let it heal and rest.

Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
Hey, Dana, is just just to make sure we're clear.

Speaker 10 (01:09:13):
So when we're not giving out any wrong information this
and you kept you're saying the muscle so this is
a soft tissue, not a structural issue with his hand, correct, It's.

Speaker 5 (01:09:22):
A muscle strain, and so that's a good thing. So
there's no ligaments or anything like that. Uh, just a
soft tissue, and we're feel he's going to be fine.
It's just going to be a few days. I mean,
you know for most people you know who are out there,
you know, when you when you strain a muscle, you
got you you really have to let it rest and
once it heals, you're you're back to normal. And so,

(01:09:43):
as I mentioned before, this guy swings a big bat.
He's a big power hitter, and these things happen with
with hitters from time to time.

Speaker 4 (01:09:50):
Retroactive to the third missed that Saturday game and has
missed the five games that followed. Today is technically day six,
so the weekend series with the Reds will be played
before he'd even be eligible to come off, and just
kind of listening to how he spoke about it. While
they do think they caught it early and could prevent
any longer term issue, it doesn't seem like he's going

(01:10:11):
to be activated after ten days expires. Seems maybe more
like a few more days probably are the prudent way
to handle this. It's unfortunate that the team without him
is still kind of split. It's better than it used
to be, but split in half. You have about half
your lineup actually starting to come around and show signs of, well,
this can be a helpful part of the offense. And
then the other half of the lineup is just they've

(01:10:32):
gone in the other not even poor, they're beyond poor. Myers,
Pena Yiner, and east sac Perettis They've been really good
over the last fifteen days.

Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
They're very good. On the road trip.

Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
They all have ops over eight hundred, all but Peretti's
hit a couple of bombs during that time. Jake's been
very good at the seventh spot or the ninth spot.
Jeremy's been awesome out of the number one spot. And
then the other part of the lineup Christian Walker still
not good, Brendan Rodgers very not good, Cam Smith not
good and not playing every day and still at the

(01:11:05):
bottom of the list. In the last fifteen days, their
least productive hitter is Jose Altuve by a pretty decent margin.

Speaker 3 (01:11:15):
I don't like that. I don't like a lot of
things about this season, but I really don't like that,
and I don't think it's gonna last either. These things happen.
I also don't like that Alex Bregman's having like the
hottest start of his career.

Speaker 4 (01:11:27):
Well, Alex Bregmant could be here and having a nine
hundred and ninety oh ps and it still wouldn't change
the fact that the Astros put three or four players
in the lineup every day that have an OPS under
six hundred.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
I mean, that's it. That's twenty twenty five in a
nutshell right there. So hopefully it turns around and in
the meantime we'll be watching every single at bat.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
The eight on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
When you think Matt Thomas is going to host a
show again tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
I kind of kind of came out of nowhere. Listeners, Well,
we were talking about our buddy here for an hour
and forty seven minutes before Matt Thomas slander came aboard.
I mean he slanders us like every segment of every day.
That is true, except for the days he's not here.

Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
Anyways, So the Astros and were you encourage at least
by a some of the things that Dana Brown said,
But be just the new because we didn't really discuss
this yesterday, even though it kind of came down almost
under the radar. And hey, by the way, we got
some imaging back on You're on Alvarez and it's it's
not that bad. Yeah, I mean a muscle strain.

Speaker 4 (01:12:43):
There's no ligament damage, no serious damage, no question about
what do you need to do to recover. He needs
to rest and hopefully it does not get aggravated or
become inflamed again. And I'm sure they believe whatever they're
doing to maybe prevent it in the future, despite the
fact that he's a big guy and swings a big
bat and swings hard. I mean we all do, so
I get that aspect of it.

Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
But this is.

Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
It was kind of described as a newer, non previous
injury from Joe Aspada, and it was described less like
a newer, non previous injury from uh Dana Brown. But
from his commentary, I'm still much more concerned and more
focused on they need fewer guys to be slumping altogether.
They spent the first two weeks of the whole team slumping.

(01:13:25):
You know, got like one or two guys coming around,
then they fell back down. I hope what we saw
what we've seen maybe the last fifteen to twenty games
from u Janer Diaz is at least more of what
we'll see from him, because he is enough of a
track record to me, you know, the guy should hit
well above two sixty. Somewhere between two seventy and two ninety.
I think is the kind of hitter he can be.
I hope his power returns to where it was his

(01:13:47):
first year. Last year was down a little bit. And
I don't just mean homers, I mean extra based power.
It's been down a little bit this year, and he's
slugging way below what I would want him to. But again,
in fact, past fifteen twenty days, past eleven games, to
be specific to a given set of stats, he's got
an ops of eight twenty six.

Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
He's slugging five hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
That would be tremendous if it was anywhere near that
the rest of the way, which is where I think
he can be as a major league offensive talent. Did
they find something in Jeremy And not only did he
already worked on things this offseason that we're already playing
out as the whatever hoole hitter he was for most
of the year, he was more patient at the plate,
his hard hit rate next at Velo or in places

(01:14:26):
that I think they would like, he was still aggressive,
which is a balance because most hitters, and he's definitely
one of them, Jake Myers is like the extreme case,
are better when they're earlier in the count or at
least not behind in the count. But the balance between
now batting leadoff and being patient but also being aggressive,
not Jose Altuve aggressive, normal human baseball player aggressive. Finding

(01:14:49):
that balance can be tough. His ten games as leadoff
hitter been borderline spectacular. You know, whatever extreme superlative you
want to use. That's what Jeremy has provided for them
as the leadoff hitter. Jake Myers continues to give them
something so when they flip the order over, there's guys
on base or runs have already been driven in. He's
been really, really good for probably as as extended a

(01:15:10):
period of time as anybody. He's got an OPS over
one thousand over his last twelve games. They've only played
thirty six games. That's one third of this season. He's
produced at that level. And you know to hear we're
we'll hear from Brian McTaggart in the five o'clock hour,
round five point fifteen. I obviously heard from him when
I spoke to him live this afternoon on the Matt
Tommy Show with Ross, but he said, you know, Jake

(01:15:31):
basically won a game all by himself, and the game
with the you know, the two home runs, the triple
and the double, and just hearing that be uttered is insane.

Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
Right. Well, I feel like they've had so many.

Speaker 4 (01:15:43):
Different guys where that name could be Jose al Tooba
just won this game by himself, your on, Kyle, Alex,
you name it.

Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Jake did it now. And while that might not be
the case for a game for Jeremy Pana, these two
names that we're talking about have certainly earned the praise
they're getting. And it's not just because the rest of
the lineup.

Speaker 4 (01:16:04):
Is yeah, this is aside from whatever anybody else is doing.
If the other guys were in the seven hundreds, if
the other guys were hitting two forty or two fifty,
they would have won four times on this road trip,
maybe five. They would be twenty four and twelve or
somewhere in that neighborhood. If they had offense with the
kind of pitching and the kind of bullpen pitching that

(01:16:24):
they've gotten Janner and Jeremy and Jake. I think I'll
deserve a little bit of a mention because of where
they were. Parentis isn't a lot better than he was
because he's been the only steady astro the whole year.
But he's hitting well over three hundred in his last
twelve games. He's got an ops up over eight fifty.
He's the only one that consistently from the first day

(01:16:45):
this year gets on base. Still patient at the plate.
You know, got the late hit in yesterday's game after
walking earlier in the game. They drew seven walks in
yesterday's game. They have to keep doing that, and that's
amazingly with all their offensive issues, that's a huge area
of improvement from last year to this year. They're way
more patient at the plate and it's paying off. They're

(01:17:05):
not getting into bad counts as often. By being patient.
They're actually forcing pitchers to use more of their arsenal
to get through their starting pitchers more quickly. And obviously
the simplest thing you want to do. You want to
draw walks, you want to get on base, you want
to provide traffic, and you know, a tougher spot, you know,
put the pitchers on edge and give your guys a
chance to put them in the other side of the stories. Clearly,

(01:17:26):
the other players I ran through that last segment just
slumping is one thing. They're getting nothing, literally empty at bats,
over and over and over again, from four to five
spots in the lineup for weeks on end.

Speaker 3 (01:17:37):
And we were talking about all of those guys you're
talking about being the top heavy portion of the lineup,
the guys we're talking about right now, Painia included. By
the way, well three.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
Of these guys are top five in the order Pania parties.
DA should be batting somewhere one through five.

Speaker 3 (01:17:53):
Right in there, and Painia wasn't at the beginning of
the season obviously because Jose was. But the entire the
easy and slash enticing thing to do here is to say, well,
I mean, some of these guys that aren't producing, they
got to eventually it's gonna come around. And then when
that happens, provided these guys are still doing what they're doing,
you're gonna be in business.

Speaker 4 (01:18:13):
You're talking about two players or three if you count
yard On who's hurt. You're talking about Christian Walker, and
you're talking about Jose Altuve, it's probably gonna happen for
al Tuove unless this was the offseason he got old
with that five years remaining on his contract while lating
this year.

Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
I mean it happened to Jose brad you pretty quick
after he was the MVP. Yeah, I don't think it's
gonna I don't think that's the case. And I guess
you'd say the same thing about Christian Walker. I don't
think this is the summer he got old. It's a
terrible TV show, by the way, the summer I turned old,
that would be awful and in their case, would be
the fall. But this is what and I'm not talking
about al Twova so much as I'm talking about a
bray you. This is why fans get upset that certain

(01:18:55):
guys walk out the door at certain ages. Especially in
the case of Alex brad You won't give them this money,
but you'll give this guy this money to come here.
I mean that's what.

Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
He did pay Christian Walker half what Alex Bregman's getting paid.
And I don't mean he got two million you paid one.
I mean he got forty you paid twenty. Yeah, that's
pretty signs it is significant, but al Tuve last year
showed some significant slippage, so this would only be a
continuation of that.

Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Yeah, but Alex Bregman also has been consistently a downturn
and with his numbers.

Speaker 4 (01:19:33):
He was very consistent. He was in the high seven
hundreds last four years. He just wasn't an all star.
He just wasn't an unbelievable offensive player. Is a good one,
and he brought a tremendous amount to the team Outside
of that, tremendous work on the field, in the field,
in the clubhouse, at the pitchers, bound, in the meetings,
helping everybody with everything, and there is a value in
that he did, an extreme value. But his offense was
pretty much the same the last four years. Altuve was

(01:19:55):
a nine hundred ops guy back to back years one
fifty op s plus one sixty ops plus back to
back years in twenty two and twenty three, and then
last year. Major drop off. This year, much bigger drop off.
I hope it's not a sign of h but it
certainly could be. Two hours in two hours to go

(01:20:16):
will reset the topics. Astros in general have been the
main focus here.

Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
Are they really going to be sellers?

Speaker 4 (01:20:23):
And to that end, what about your rocket.

Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam we're talking your
team is Adam Clinton and Adam Wexler are the eighteen eighty.

Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
Eight straight out four o'clock here on a Thursday edition
of the program. It's Sports Talk seven ninety. It's Space
City Home Network. It is the a team. Wex and
Ac along with Cole Thompson with you as we take
you up until six o'clock tonight. No Astros tonight. They
will return home for a series against the Cincinnati Reds

(01:21:05):
this weekend. Obviously, the road trip didn't go exactly the
way they would have liked, but at least they salvaged
that series in Milwaukee with a nine to one victory
yesterday and that Mattine you heard right here on seven nineties.
So we'll try to write the ship at home if
you will get above five hundred, you know, like the
Red Sox are trying to do the Red Sox. Oh okay,

(01:21:25):
so it's a final.

Speaker 4 (01:21:26):
Yeah, they helped the Astros out.

Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
Who are they playing again?

Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
One of the teams that's now trailing the Astros in
the division.

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
Who are they playing? Rangers? Oh? Okay, did Alex Bregman
hit ten home.

Speaker 4 (01:21:38):
Runs, not ten, one less than ten, but more than one.
I did not hit more than one home run today.

Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
Did he hit one at all? No? Okay, that's good.
We want to hear about it. Zero for four. Do
you know what I was talking about earlier with the
media and just basically the coverage of him becoming a darling.
All of a sudden, they'd made this huge graphic on
MLB's x account of him getting his two hundredth home run,

(01:22:07):
I believe is what it was.

Speaker 10 (01:22:09):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
And you know, on the side of the Green Monster.
I don't know if they would have done that here
in Houston, would they have? No? You serious? You're taking
two things.

Speaker 4 (01:22:20):
A doesn't play for the Astros and B he's not
hitting two seventeen with a six hundred ops in August
of a meaningless season. There's five hitters that have been
awesome this year.

Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
He's one of them.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
He's been a story from the moment they finally signed him.
So this story has never gone away because of how
late he got signed. He's been at the forefront of
this media darling status from the day he got there,
which was not that long ago.

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
He got there.

Speaker 4 (01:22:47):
They had turmoil. Rafael Devers is mad then they played
He's been awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
Here we are Bregman, Judge, Soto, Otani not Soto.

Speaker 4 (01:23:00):
Oh you mean he Soto hasn't been unbelievable this year.

Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
Yeah, but they had like the best record, so I
just figured they would throw him in there. Yeah, because
Pete Alonso. Oh so he's the guy. He has been
this year. Soto hasn't been awful, though he.

Speaker 4 (01:23:12):
Has not been anywhere near as productive as one polar Bear.
Alonso is second to Judge in the Majors in OPS
and first with him in RBI.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
When does Judge get hurt this year?

Speaker 4 (01:23:26):
I mean, they're probably gonna try to see if they
can prevent that because they have other injury issues that
they can easily overcome. Overcoming that name, Jean Carlos Stanton,
that's a big one shock. Honestly, I'll tell you this today.
I'll set the over under it twenty five. He's gonna
play less than twenty five games this year.

Speaker 3 (01:23:44):
Well, you know what's crazy about that is when they
have had success in the postseason, he's been the guy.

Speaker 4 (01:23:49):
He in Minisoto awesome last year. Yeah, and he's had
other good postseason.

Speaker 3 (01:23:54):
He was awesome against the Astros in twenty two when
they beat them in four games. Yankees didn't we that's.

Speaker 4 (01:24:00):
Because they're not doubling him and blitzing him. They're focused
on stopping somebody else.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
That's mean.

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
Wan Soto has been okay, you know, eight sixty ops
for most players is really good.

Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
For him.

Speaker 4 (01:24:10):
It's a significant downturn.

Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
Yeah, I look, I think he'll be fine. Yeah, I
do think he'll be fine. He's one of the best
players in baseball. By the way. Speaking of the Astros
and whether or not they're buyers or sellers or anything
like that at least uh well, MLB dot Com reporter
Mark finesand polled league executives about who would be the

(01:24:36):
biggest name moved at the trade deadline this summer. So
you had Sandy Alcntera and Luis Robert Junior were a
lot of the poled executives thought those are the most likely.

Speaker 4 (01:24:50):
What do those two teams that they play for have
in common? They suck, They're awful, They're going nowhere, they
have zero chance to win. Well, how would you designate
the Astros nowhere near as lost and pathetic as the
Marlins and White Sox.

Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
But also employing a guy who's gonna be a free agent.

Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
Right Sandy, al Kantara is who you build around. You
trade him when your management team has been unable to
land talent to play with him.

Speaker 3 (01:25:20):
I'm talking about the Astros player that they suggest here
from Bervaldez.

Speaker 4 (01:25:24):
Yeah, well, al Qantara is probably considered better, better long term,
even though he's had injuries, and of course he's getting
moved because his franchise sucks. Totally different, I can the
Astros would have to be unlike what we just talked about.

(01:25:45):
Look how bad the Astros offense is bad, bad, bad,
bad bad. Nowhere near as bad as they're about to play.
If they're gonna trade, Trumper's not getting traded unless they
are literally out of it, mathematically almost impossible for them
to accomplish anything. I know there'd make some beat, some
sense made. If you're a couple games under that, you're
probably not going to get there. But the team that

(01:26:06):
signs him or the team that trades for him, excuse me,
where's their inherent advantage in bringing him back? Are we
believing in that somehow now he might help you win,
but you're trading away pretty good players, because he's a
really good pitcher.

Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
For two months, it's a rental. Here's my question. I
guess that this makes me now that we're having this
conversation the way it's going, and I've always kind of
thought about this, at what point and how did it go?
Did the Astros have that conversation about Kyle Tucker? I
know they were talking about it for a long time,
but remember Dana Brown, not just James click or if

(01:26:45):
you want to call Jeff Bagwell, the interim prior GMS,
including Dana Brown, would go on the record and it
didn't even seem like it was just lip service, like
we expect to bring him back and then all of
a sudden, well we can't have this. He he's gonna
cost too much. But when did they determine all right,
we're gonna try and get something for him before the season,

(01:27:06):
as opposed to trying to get something for him at
the deadline or just saying all right, we're gonna go
one more year with him and then not get anything
for him.

Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
I mean, I don't remember any GM saying anything publicly
about Kyle Tucker. It was Dana Brown all the way.
And he was also timing wise, the other gms probably
weren't new. It wasn't on the radar yet. He wasn't
about to leave, He wasn't about to be in the
final year. You weren't certain that you would not be
able to do it. It was just so early in
the process. If he wasn't going to take one of
the deals like al Tuvey, Bregman, Javier and Jordan did, well,

(01:27:38):
then you were past that. You were at the year
getting closer to the Korea stage and the Springer stay.

Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
Now.

Speaker 4 (01:27:43):
Korea had a lot of conversations each of the several
off seasons before his ultimate departure where they were negotiating.
They were trying to have that happen, and it really
never seemed like it ever took off with Kyle, even
after Dana said it would.

Speaker 3 (01:27:56):
I don't really think they ever got anywhere.

Speaker 4 (01:27:57):
And I think that's why they hit this off seas,
knowing that this is the time to do it, if
we're going to do it, if we feel like now
this eighteen and eighteen team is going to make us say, well, now,
remind me why you did this again. It's because they
thought they did the moves, made the moves necessary to
be a little bit better than this, to have just
a little bit of offense. Just give me two more wins,

(01:28:20):
and you're twenty and sixteen, and the loss of Kyle
Tucker and the loss of Alex Bregman has you on
the cusp of first place without being great. I'm giving
you two more wins without telling you they've hit lights out,
if they've actually hit well, if Walker hasn't been a
total disaster, if some other if jord On for whatever reason,
is him just himself, they're definitely twenty and sixteen. What

(01:28:42):
if they're twenty one and fifteen now they're one of
the best teams in baseball still, or at least one
of the best teams in the AL And trading Kyle
and not signing Bregman and letting those three pitchers play
for other teams Presley Verlander, Kokuchi sounds like, yeah, this
is they did just fine in retooling the twenty twenty

(01:29:02):
five Astros and beyond, just a couple of games is
all the difference makes. Trading Kyle Tucker and Daalax can
keep doing what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (01:29:12):
We're not.

Speaker 4 (01:29:12):
I don't think we need to have revision his history
and say man, what a mistake the Astros make it.

Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
I wasn't saying it. Then what if I were to
tell you that Hunter Brown could have been extended, or
at least the conversations could have been going far down
that road.

Speaker 4 (01:29:30):
If you're I would think you're probably talking about the
time when he was hoping to keep his spot in
the rotation, because it's only we've only been here for
a year. One calendar year is how long he has
been an awesome, Oh my god, this guy's the best
thing ever.

Speaker 3 (01:29:44):
Pitcher this offseason.

Speaker 4 (01:29:45):
So if you were talking about a contract for him,
an extension for him, and he was listening to you,
then you were the side that was taking the chance.

Speaker 3 (01:29:53):
Well, I hope this guy's good.

Speaker 4 (01:29:54):
Well, I hope his major league careers as promising as
a minor league career was, because he had not proven
that yet.

Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
Like, would you have signed him this offseason based on
what you'd seen so far from the team?

Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
Yeah, this is that stuff's kind of no brainer, but
it's a two way street. I mean, as one hundred percent,
no question about it, easiest decision ever. I would have
absolutely given him that money. They did it with Christian
Javier probably a lesser figure. He's in the sixties. I
think Hunter would have been much more like alex Or
Jose where it was in one hundred million dollar range
for that or Al Alvarez their early extension.

Speaker 3 (01:30:26):
It was that neighborhood. But yeah, no quoe.

Speaker 4 (01:30:28):
If if you offered him six years, one hundred and
five million with multiple arbitration.

Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
Years like Lance mccullors deal.

Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
Absolutely yes, he got a five year, eighty five million
dollar deal four years ago. I would have had zero
reservations about how that would work out for the team,
and I might not have worked out.

Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
I would not have been concerned at all.

Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
If I was management, I was said, this is awesome,
I can't wait to pay him.

Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
Suh, she do it now.

Speaker 4 (01:30:53):
He would not accept a deal like that now. He
would be smart not to accept it. He's a break
the bank pitcher.

Speaker 3 (01:31:01):
So he's the next guy out the door. Yes, that's awesome,
I mean it's but he's not about to leave. This
is the problem I had, And I get it. I
get that it doesn't grow on trees. I know we
do this every single but like we keep doing it
every single time because.

Speaker 4 (01:31:16):
But they've never done it with a pitcher They've never
had a picture like this.

Speaker 3 (01:31:21):
Did it when Justin left the first time?

Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
Yeah, but I'm talking about a guy who they drafted.
He grew up all of his years of control in
front of him, and he's been awesome and now.

Speaker 3 (01:31:30):
Signed the one guy like that, which was Lance.

Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
That's correct, m But even then, like he got a
pretty good market deal. Oh yeah, he was one of
the most highly paid starting pitchers at the time, and
it looked.

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Like it was going to be a good deal considering
when they gave it to him and what he had
done for that franchise.

Speaker 4 (01:31:47):
I definitely think when Hunter signs his next deal, he'll
be one of the most highly paid pitchers and he
might not be looking up at any of the others.

Speaker 3 (01:31:56):
So, for the record, they're not trading fromber I don't
think so. All Right, there you have it solved all
the world's problems right here. In the first segment of
the four o'clock hour.

Speaker 1 (01:32:05):
The Age on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
I'm actually debating whether or not we should have Cole
play the breaking news sounder here. Don't debate it. It's
a big deal.

Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
Even me and Cole knows me, our listeners know me.
You know me, wife knows me, Our boss knows me,
spoke with him today. Even I won't have a bad
attitude about it, not even knowing what the breaking news is.
So I am welcome to it. I'm open to it.
I've just gotten the blanket out of the dryer here
at the office. We just installed it warm to toast
is no longer wet, So fire away please.

Speaker 3 (01:32:46):
The Texans. Yes, and rookie Jaden Higgins. Yes, they've agreed
to a deal.

Speaker 4 (01:32:53):
Awesome breaking news, just like we talked about earlier, when
draft picks, especially outside of the first round, have come
to terms on an agreement.

Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
Oh there's a catch.

Speaker 5 (01:33:04):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
Oh what? It's a fully guaranteed, four year, eleven million,
seven and twenty four dollars contract. It's the first first
example of a second round pick in NFL history to
have a fully guaranteed contract.

Speaker 4 (01:33:24):
So he got slot money.

Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
Yes, the slot receiver got no money slotted where he belongs.

Speaker 4 (01:33:32):
Exactly that he got the money, now, that is it's noteworthy.
But I think what we've seen in the last couple
of years, this is this was what was coming with
some other deals like his and other deals being made
with players outside of the first round, even quarterbacks and
other players signing their regular free agent deals. We're getting
further and further up the ladder of We just signed

(01:33:52):
one hundred and twelve million dollar deal with forty million guaranteed.
He just signed one hundred and fifty five million dollar
deal with sixty guaranteed. The percentage of guarantees on deals
in free agency and now obviously with his traff pick,
they've consistently been on the rise to the point where
they've risen to the maximum. You can't make more than
the guarantee. This is what you could be paid. This

(01:34:13):
is what you are going to be paid. And I
wonder if he and his agent played some serious, serious
hardball with Nick Cassario and the other Texans negotiators, saying, look,
I'm here, I've already started working out, I've flown in,
I'm ready to put on my brand new jersey for
rookie mini camp this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
However, you can.

Speaker 4 (01:34:33):
Forget it unless you have my deal done and all
of it better be guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (01:34:38):
My getting on the same page.

Speaker 4 (01:34:40):
With insert name of quarterback, which will throw him zero
passes ever in his NFL career, that he's going to
be working with this weekend. If you want me to
get on the same page with him, then you better
get this pen to paper. Give me a deal that
I can live with at slot money, just guarantee at all.

Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
And he's not even the slot receiver.

Speaker 4 (01:34:58):
No, he will be a Niko like body on the fields.

Speaker 9 (01:35:02):
There.

Speaker 4 (01:35:02):
Alvin Harper, Well, it's interesting that we're saying all this
about him today. As you know, Ceedee Lamb and George
Pickens team up. Good luck double teaming both of us,
which cannot be done. I'm not putting Jayden Higgins on
any of these four receivers level or three receivers, Higgins
alongside Collins and those two. But the body is the

(01:35:23):
body type some of the things he can do. And
when you have a receiver that's of that height and
of that build that appears to have the ability, his
foot speed, his quickness, his cutting ability, route running, all
the things. The buzz were the draft buzz words. But
you watch him do this kind of these kind of things,
and they're normally associated with a player who's not six'

(01:35:44):
four or even six three or six, two and he.
Is It's it's not what The texans have had as
a wide receiver set up probably ever.

Speaker 3 (01:35:55):
EVER i Mean DeAndre And andre other than, that But
andre was not that was. Good the same size As,
andre it's much. Smaller you know why it seems like
he was because he caught.

Speaker 4 (01:36:07):
Everything because he caught, everything and receivers that are ultimate
successful red zone, threats.

Speaker 3 (01:36:16):
Well you just.

Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
Automatically so it's a six, three six to four receiver
where when we're in the red, zone he's getting the,
ball he's running the, slant he's running the, fade we're
going up top to. Him DeAndre hopkins six one two
twelve probably not considered a BIG nfl. Receiver he's definitely
not considered a SMALL nfl. Receiver but, no he's not
on the upper end of the. Spectrum And higgins And

(01:36:37):
Nico collins are big time receiver for. Sure AND i
would you could play the breaking news for all four
hours of the show tomorrow And i'll take the day
off if those two guys produce anywhere near for their,
careers Like DeAndre hopkins And Andre, johnson Like Nico collins
his individual seasons now last, year in the year, before

(01:36:59):
even with games, missed plus his postseason. Work he's in
the same conversation with some of the seasons that they've.
Had andre had some healthy seasons And DeAndre had some
healthy seasons where they blew the doors off of the
totals For Nico, collins But nico's been a Better this
is an individually sounds awful and it's absolutely, true and

(01:37:21):
there's many other factors at. Play Nico collins has been a,
better more, productive more utilized red zone receiver Than Andre, johnson, which,
again for as much AS i love as, shucks just
some of the worst red zone play Calls i've ever.

Speaker 3 (01:37:36):
Seen don't sleep On dom also wasting him the first
couple of years he was in the.

Speaker 4 (01:37:40):
League a little easier to Give dom a pass when
it Was david as the trigger.

Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
MAN i will say, this my quarterback's getting.

Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Killed and THEN i want to be nicer To, gary
BUT i don't because he did Have Arion foster, there
and Giving Arian foster the ball inside the five yard
line was like a guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (01:37:57):
Touchdown some people.

Speaker 4 (01:37:59):
Haven't Marcus allen has a nose for the end, zone
And Arian foster certainly did as, well and not everybody,
does but he, did so there's a little there's.

Speaker 3 (01:38:07):
Some reasons for he had a nose For. Nicole for
those of you who didn't catch, That Nicole Brown, SIMPSON
i Mean OJ's.

Speaker 4 (01:38:14):
WIFE i met fault AND i did it on, purpose
BUT i thought we already had OUR. O.

Speaker 3 (01:38:19):
J simpson segment for not this, hour not this? Hour all?
Right so she's, dead you know for a? Waiter? Yep,
Yes fred he killed them And marcus it was a great.
Interview what?

Speaker 4 (01:38:34):
Interview, hey breaking news textan signed a wide? Receiver how
how do we do?

Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
This how did we get? Here like? Almost, Man i'm
so GOOD i asked the, question even Though i'm the.
Culprit he was At Radio row in twenty seventeen when
The patriots came back against The. Falcons, here, Right So
i'm doing a show at the time With Sean, jones
former Oiler packers.

Speaker 4 (01:38:56):
Player teammate of his with The. Raiders, yes, okay.

Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
That's how he knew. Him and of, course as all
of my co hosts have ever known who have done
a show with, me there are just some parameters nine
to ELEVEN, JFK, oj these are gonna be. Topics what
about the moon? LANDING i don't care about. That WHATEVER
jfk is involved there, see and it all comes. Back

(01:39:21):
so he says to, Me he's, like all, Right marcus
is coming by. Today i'm, like, Sweet, Marcus allen he,
goes DON'T i go what he? Goes he. Goes don't
ask about that off the air or on the. Air i'm,
like Why sean he, goes, Don't, well what are you going?

Speaker 4 (01:39:38):
To, Okay so you were, saying, yeah all four years
That Sean jones was The, Raider marcus was his teammate.
There unbelievable the first couple of.

Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
Years i've ever told you the story that he told
me about when they found out about what.

Speaker 4 (01:39:51):
Happened tell me more About Jayden higgins signing his rookie
deal with The.

Speaker 3 (01:39:54):
Texans sean is in some exotic. LOCATION i don't know
if there's A caribbean or one tooth. Maybe, anyway he's
there With marcus good. Times they see THE tv what's,
happened and they're, like we gotta get back to get
we gotta get we gotta be there for. Juice we
gotta get. Back marcus, says, ah let's just hold, off.

(01:40:17):
Guys true. Story no, Way i'm telling you the. Truth
you get shot on the phone right, now he will recant.

Speaker 4 (01:40:23):
It, well what was going, LIKE i don't believe he
would feel that way for one, thing or say.

Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
THAT i, LIKE i used to like to ask, him
do you think he did? It just to see his
face and we'll be right. Back god on that, note
we gotta go to break, Here. JEEZY i was amusing
to him, because unlike, you this is just a. Name
this is an. Athlete these are people we saw ON
tv during and after their. Career this was a friend

(01:40:52):
of his and another friend of, his and they both
had similar interest in the same person who got. Dead
that's WHAT.

Speaker 4 (01:40:59):
I was saying about from you're saying you were watching.

Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
The bronco coverage of the fact that she was no
longer with.

Speaker 4 (01:41:09):
Us, okay so for The, bronx that's WHY i said.
It it was like four. Days that's THE i don't
know what reaction to. Expect but this isn't a close
acquaintance and. Friend it's much more than. That and well he's.

Speaker 3 (01:41:23):
Learning well he.

Speaker 4 (01:41:24):
Didn't that's What sean, said, Right that's what everybody not
Named marcus. Said, well someone he's gross with wasn't a.
Suspect someone he was close with was not alive. Anymore
they were, unlived so that's the other. One that's some
kind of story and. Reaction but, Yes Jaden higgins will

(01:41:45):
be on the field tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:41:46):
With a contract.

Speaker 4 (01:41:47):
Signed fully, Guarantee oh, Guarantee i'm fully. GUARANTEED i would
imagine maybe even the next couple of days they'll be
able to work out just the small little details on
several of the other draft. Picks Jalen noel his teammate,
Again Jalen, reed and a few. OTHERS i would imagine
with this second round deal. Done he went at thirty,
Four ursery went at forty. Eight the rest of the

(01:42:07):
league will be on board in a similar. WAY a
lot of these deals will all get done very. Quickly and,
then though other teams might have a couple of issues
with their first round picks and even with rookie minicamp
getting on the, field players that don't sign their contracts
have necessary insurance, waivers proper things in, place so should
something happen during their limited on field, activities it's not

(01:42:28):
of any great concern. Financially it gets taken care of
even without a. Contract there are certain People i'd like
to ask about. That by the, WAY AC a question
FROM ac to know who he is, YEAH i question
FROM ac to ANOTHER.

Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Ac but, yeah just to see what their reaction would.
Be their, celebrities one of them runs the. Country for,
example all, right when we come, back what's up with?
THAT msg style.

Speaker 2 (01:42:53):
THE a team On Sports talk seven Ninety, yes.

Speaker 4 (01:43:00):
A new signature seven Called.

Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
What's up? With what's up with? That what's?

Speaker 3 (01:43:10):
UP i, say it's? Up do? That. NOW i need
to preface this by saying that it's not really out
of the ordinary for this to happen for this time of,
year or really any time of year where it's the.
POSTSEASON i, mean we all know THAT nfl tickets to

(01:43:34):
a playoff game are gonna cost even more ridiculous prices
THAN nfl tickets to a regular season. Game are they dynamically?
Priced you? Know dynamic is a fancy way of saying
we're gouging you.

Speaker 4 (01:43:45):
Dynamic you want this, Right, yes everybody wants it, Right,
yes so we can charge you more for, it please.

Speaker 3 (01:43:51):
Don't, well we're Gonna that's what they say these.

Speaker 4 (01:43:54):
People so The knickerbockers And celtics played two games In.
Boston it's the best of, saying so games three and
four shift To New. York they play their games AT
msg mono sodium. Glutamate sure have you been there for
a game? Before by the, Way i've only been outside the,
arena all, Right i've been there for two.

Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
Games neither one of them featured The rockets playing The
knicks because.

Speaker 4 (01:44:20):
Of basketball games TO nba, There.

Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
Yes And i've been there for a. Concert how did you.

Speaker 4 (01:44:26):
See AN nba basketball game AND msg that didn't feature The.

Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
Knicks, No i'm saying it didn't feature The rockets playing The, okay,
yeah it was JUST i was in, town so they're
playing fill in the. Blank that's what you should.

Speaker 4 (01:44:37):
DO i was in town and all we did was
walk by the arena with our bags as we picked
up our rental car and went about our.

Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
Way that's the wrong way to do. It it's cool
on the.

Speaker 4 (01:44:44):
Outside games three and four and Maybe game six later
on down the line are going to be played In
New york AT.

Speaker 3 (01:44:50):
Msg what's going? On, well according to Tick, pic just
a random brokender the. Mill, yeah the, Average so this
is just you take the cheapest, seat take the most expensive,
seat AND i would assume that's how you get this.
Number the average get in price to game. Three so

(01:45:11):
this isn't A game, Seven it's not even a deciding.
Game this series is very much still in play must, Win,
NO i mean If boston goes down, three then the
next game would be very. Good, literally but, uh the
average get in price to sit In Madison Square garden
and watch The knicks host The celtics In game three

(01:45:34):
is seven hundred and thirty four. Dollars now they're talking
about like the different venues that are still, LEFT i,
mean not that many teams left in THE nba season
at this.

Speaker 4 (01:45:47):
Point, yeah there's eight venues, left and none of them
house TWO nba, teams or none of them do anymore
because The lakers And clippers now have their own, facilities but.

Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
Both of them are sitting at. HOME, yep, one, two three.
Cancoon So game three is the most Expensive knicks home
game on. Record four and seventy nine dollars was the
cheapest ticket before the series, started and now the cheapest
ticket after The knicks go up two to zero in the,
series and it's the first game play TO msg is
seven thirty. Four the most eye popping, part well two

(01:46:20):
of these eye popping little. Tibits tickpit goes on to
report that the most expensive court side seat is selling
for fifty.

Speaker 4 (01:46:30):
Grand, YEAH i didn't come across that. One but in
what's described as amazing as the seat is, AMAZING i
can get you AND i in section ten d row
a two seats the low low price of forty three

(01:46:50):
ninety dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:46:51):
And that's both of. Us that's not even what is that?
Like the is d like in the on the. Roof,
no this is this is. Row this is front row
V ip.

Speaker 4 (01:47:00):
SECTION i think it's the very first row of seats
behind all along the court side in the. Corner, okay
so if, like uh IF i think you're behind one
row of four, seats.

Speaker 3 (01:47:15):
So it is very. Close, yes you're so close that
if you have a disagreement With Charles, oakley everyone will
see him choking you on, camera.

Speaker 4 (01:47:22):
More likely if you had a disagreement With.

Speaker 3 (01:47:26):
Jalen.

Speaker 4 (01:47:26):
Brunson, yes, okay so what's wrong with? This, Though Darren
rovel think other arenas Around america would do.

Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
Similarly they, would but not to this. Extent this Is
New York, city this is The, garden this is The,
mecca and The knicks are actually. Good, Finally Darren, rovel
this is where it just goes nuclear a pair of
court side tickets This. Saturday oh there's a. Pair and
as you, said for the lolo price of just one

(01:47:57):
hundred and nine thousand and eighty two, bus you can.

Speaker 4 (01:48:00):
Get that pair of. Tickets so let me ask you.
This at game three For Nick's, celtics they'll send out
an email or a correspondence text maybe to the broadcast,
media The Worldwide leader OR tnt whoever rest the, game
and other media members and of course the in house
marketing production game ops. Crew of the list of super

(01:48:23):
celebs that are, There Ben, Stiller Spike lee And hathaway
And hathaway and probably countless. Others still got, it they're
sitting in these in similarly priced seats and paying what
for those?

Speaker 3 (01:48:38):
Seats you, Know i've always wondered about, this because what
do we always, say the rich get? Richer how many
times have you seen a profet Like, OKAY C. J
stroud sat court side For game? Seven do you think
he paid for THOSE i. Don't, well he was also
part of a.

Speaker 4 (01:48:52):
Promotion, yeah but he was there to miss the first.

Speaker 3 (01:48:55):
Shot, yeah he's Getting so that's more money being spent
that he didn't spend spending other people's money to? Miss
do you who do you?

Speaker 4 (01:49:03):
Think asked him if he wouldn't mind paying Not, patrick
COULD i know where You're you're here a? Lot and
Uh like there're players who will have season tickets or
some sort of ticket package and go to a lot
of games and not expect their agent or the team
to just, say, hey come on, in it's, cool we
got a spot for.

Speaker 3 (01:49:23):
You isn't it wild that the last time there was
a Prominent warriors playoff game that The texan sitting court
side WAS Jj watt and then now it's C. J.
Stroud that's how long.

Speaker 4 (01:49:34):
He was there to try to fit into HIS t,
shirt barely that she.

Speaker 3 (01:49:39):
Read one that it was A. RAGLIN i believe it
was run as. One no, no, no, no it was a different.
One it had the retro logo on. It, okay BUT
i could be getting my name my.

Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
Game he was actually sitting courtside next to the, bench
The rockets.

Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
Bench these seats.

Speaker 4 (01:49:54):
We're talking about for first shot participants or tank AT, cj.
Etcetera they're almost always on the oposite side of the,
court either close to or pretty pretty near Where Tillman
Dream biggie.

Speaker 3 (01:50:06):
Are usually seated on either side of THE t AND
t table that has their.

Speaker 4 (01:50:09):
Seats you're, taken, Yep well it's a lot of. Money
will not likely would not have. BEEN i wonder if
his plans and travel changed because he is currently In.

Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
Italy he's the. Ambassador he's Letting patrick run the team real.
Quick Charles barklay not a huge fan of the three
thirty eastern tip off For game three On.

Speaker 1 (01:50:31):
Saturday The nicks just did it to The Boston so
why do you play that game at?

Speaker 3 (01:50:35):
Three? Churt that has to be A saturday night In
New York.

Speaker 10 (01:50:38):
City, Well saturday missed that.

Speaker 3 (01:50:45):
Game he's got a. Point why is that not in prime?
Time is it the same day as The warriors? Game
and they're playing In San? Francisco so it's a time zone?
Thing you mean?

Speaker 4 (01:50:59):
This they're, like think about who these teams are and
the markets Therein how could you possibly choose? That and
yet they have they're BOTH abc. Games The warriors are
on The West. Coast they have the seven thirty our
time tip and the two thirty Tip our time Is Celtics.
Knicks you didn't want how about playing?

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
THEM i don't.

Speaker 4 (01:51:20):
KNOW i don't know if they were limited on which
two windows they. Had how about playing The warriors game mid.
Afternoon you played the last five o'clock before The rockets
game Last.

Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
SUNDAY Tolli curry's going to be playing, anyway, exactly just saying.

Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
THE A team On Sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:51:43):
One of the more rude liners we, have name calling and.
Whatnot you think that was called. For it is THE A.
Team It's Sports talk seven. Ninety it is A thursday
edition of the. Program, well we just talked about the
fact that the playoffs continue on, today and you absolutely

(01:52:05):
wex experienced this much sooner during the week THAN i.
Did today was the first day WHERE i was, like
WISH i was getting ready for A rockets, Game LIKE
i WISH i was doing the pregame. PREP i WISH
i was gonna go to the, arena wish they were,
playing you know whatever game too tonight Against Anthony edwards and.
COMPANY i still it's it's again going back to twenty.

(01:52:26):
Eighteen it's not even close expectations of that. Squad they
should have won THE Nba championship in twenty. Eighteen you'll
never convince me, otherwise nor will anybody that wants to
try and, say, well if The warriors hadn't won that,
series who would have won THE Nba finals that? Year,
seriously you're asking me, that did you watch AND i
know this isn't even this is like a small sample.

(01:52:47):
Size did you watch the two times they played The
calves that? Year The? Rockets they absolutely they did basically
What Oklahoma city did to The nuggets last. Night slightly
less of a, mauling but they bludgeon, them especially In.
Cleveland In cleveland they Were that's WHEN i was In
minneapolis doing the game on the. Radio go make that.

(01:53:08):
WORK i had a com rex in our hotel room
because we were At Radio. Row you WERE.

Speaker 4 (01:53:13):
Mt, NO i wasn't played by Play. NO i mean
that's what he does. Now he was does his show
on a Com rex from his hotel.

Speaker 3 (01:53:20):
Room he, yeah but he was doing the game In.
CLEVELAND i was doing the color In minneapolis as the
game was being broadcast back here In. Houston because that's
just we were stretched thin because we were all up.
There not On Radio, row mind, you we had gotten
kicked off of. That but it was the week leading
up to the latest upset in The Super, bowl Where

(01:53:44):
Tom brady lost Every Super. Bowl i've been intimately involved
in the two here In houston and then that one
THAT i went. To brady's been involved as, well but
he usually wins the ones here and then he loses
the ones to The eagles quarterbacked By Nick.

Speaker 4 (01:54:01):
Foles just The rockets so beat The calves that year.
Twice one was a thirty plus point. Victory the close
game they won by just a couple of. Points one
seventeen one thirteen here In houston At Toyota.

Speaker 3 (01:54:15):
Center is that the one where there were early in
the season incident With James harden kicking somebody in The
Crown Jewels or was that a different?

Speaker 4 (01:54:21):
Year it must have been a different. Year james was
great that. Night trevor was great that. Night Eric gordon
was great that. Night Clint capella was great that. Night
pj And nanay both came off the bench double figure.
Scores Ryan, anderson lesser helpful player he was in the starting,
lineup scored five points and somehow they beat A cavs
team led By lebron And Emon schumpert And Jay crowder J.

(01:54:45):
R smith And Kevin love rounded out their starting. Lineup
this championship caliber team that they had that.

Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
Year, yeah in The Eastern. Conference it was so.

Speaker 4 (01:54:52):
Formidable but the only other player that was awesome in
that game Besides, lebron who had thirty three and eight,
turnovers was Current Houston Rocket Jeff, green.

Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
WHOA i forgot he played for The.

Speaker 4 (01:55:06):
Calves, yep he knows off the bench went for twenty.
SEVEN i bet you if you asked him right.

Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Now, Hey, JEFF i know it's been a, minute but
let's go back to twenty eighteen when you were playing
With lebron In cleveland And kyrie had already. Left, like,
you guys get to the finals and it's The rockets
instead of The, warriors you're still getting, smashed, RIGHT i.

Speaker 4 (01:55:27):
Don't think you take kindly to. That got a kind of?

Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
Question, well IF i asked, IT i would do it
in my, way he would. Laugh he knows that was
the de FACTO nba championship That Scott foster.

Speaker 4 (01:55:39):
Ruined, well after they beat The celtics In game seven
to reach the, finals they didn't win any more.

Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
Times, right it was it was. Over that's WHY i.
Knew we walking out of the arena that. Night you
know WHAT i did WHEN i got, HOME i sat
in The darkness.

Speaker 4 (01:55:55):
Alone jeez, man they only got that outscored by sixty
points in the.

Speaker 3 (01:56:00):
List, Like, OKAY i know this sounds.

Speaker 4 (01:56:02):

Curry Clay thompson And Draymond green And Andrea guidala wiped
the floor With Lebron, James Jerr, Smith George, Hill Rodney,
Hood Tristan, Thompson Larry, Nants Junior jeff and. Others Tristan
thompson WITH i did skip Over kevin love With Chloe
kardashian at the, Time, well what does that?

Speaker 3 (01:56:23):
Mean what does that? Mean? No you know what she
might have been Dating james at that? Time was that
the year that she was showing up At toyota cinemare
often than.

Speaker 4 (01:56:31):
Not that's not something THAT i can recall. Happening, REALLY
i can recall seeing a video of them at a. Cafe,
no she can't be game much games or she was seen?
Once where was she was not court?

Speaker 3 (01:56:44):
Side?

Speaker 9 (01:56:45):
Oh yes she?

Speaker 4 (01:56:46):
Was well, no it wasn't like every, night but, yeah
when they. WERE i DON'T i Just i'm being. TRUTH
i just don't remember seeing her period at the. ARENA
i was told she would be very easy and nice
to deal.

Speaker 3 (01:56:58):
With i'm, like, right because she's Not kim or any
of the other ones that are not fun to be
with or.

Speaker 4 (01:57:07):
Around, well then how come they keep specially people to
be with them and be around them because they're rich
and famous? RICH i mean you lump them all. TOGETHER
i think they're their own.

Speaker 3 (01:57:18):
People by the, Way, no they're. Not by the, Way.

Speaker 4 (01:57:20):
Britney has a character. Flaw, yeah she talks like. That,
no it's the person she was with for way too,
long which One Scott, courtney his name dissick Whatever courtney
has a.

Speaker 3 (01:57:34):
Flaw obviously that is not.

Speaker 4 (01:57:38):
It she chose other mates that did not have any
respect for their relationship at, all And Tristan.

Speaker 3 (01:57:46):
Christos and Lamar, Odom Kristin thompson and Lamar odom who
they found in a.

Speaker 4 (01:57:57):
Brothel all, right half dead segment is approaching its, end
but we have just enough. Time how good would this team?
Be basketball? Team they have to have been in a
relationship with either A jenner or A. Kardashians you're bearing

(01:58:18):
the lead on this whole conversation that we didn't know
we were going to. Have what one could be on
her way back To, houston or To houston for the first,
time but a member of that family would once again
be here In houston Because i'm pretty sure the d
book is still With. Kylie well that's ALL i was
really getting.

Speaker 3 (01:58:37):
At and there is whatever they all start with A
k when you do, That George, foreman.

Speaker 4 (01:58:44):
Three of them are from this family and two of
them are from that. Family they're, different.

Speaker 3 (01:58:51):
They didn't use the different.

Speaker 4 (01:58:52):
Letters also accurate and still. Different but Between book And
Chris humphrey and Lamar, Odom.

Speaker 3 (01:59:01):
Chris Humphries griffins barely AN nba. Player he. Didn't he
wasn't even married to her for like a.

Speaker 4 (01:59:08):
Commercials yeah, cool, Dude, right why did he get that?
Gear he had fresh gear because he happened to have fresh.
Gear Russell westbrooks put mustard all over. It, yeah all
these other guys you're missed and knocked a plant over
they also had fresh.

Speaker 3 (01:59:21):
Talent he. Didn't he, played he's in the. League he
was a time.

Speaker 4 (01:59:26):
Millionaire who was the guy that played for The. Celtics Bryan.
Scalabrini he cuts shade from Uh tibbs this.

Speaker 3 (01:59:34):
Week, well, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:59:36):
Tibbs was talking about his great time In, boston all
the history.

Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
There he BASICALLY i loved.

Speaker 4 (01:59:40):
It everything great about this everything excepts The alabrini what's.

Speaker 3 (01:59:43):
His, Nickname Big? Red, no The, janitor and he ran
circles Around Chris. Humphries Chris humphries is an embarrassment to
THE nba. Legacy what a terrible big. Man goodness.

Speaker 4 (01:59:56):
Gracious five o'clock hour means more of that except, up
none of. That we're talking football at. Five next.

Speaker 2 (02:00:04):
THE a team On Sports talk seven.

Speaker 1 (02:00:06):
Ninety Adam clinton And Adam wexler are THE A.

Speaker 3 (02:00:15):
Team, well we've already given you the fantastic news that
a fully guaranteed deal has been agreed to Between Jaden
higgins and The Houston.

Speaker 4 (02:00:35):
Texas, yeah it's not of great consequence whether it's guaranteed or.
Not he's gonna play here four, years is gonna get
paid for four, years and now he's under contract again
in THE. Nfl it's just changed where the magnitude of
these announcements are relatively. Small it is interesting that it
is all, guaranteed but just an indication they're happy with the,
player happy with the. Pick glad they were able to

(02:00:56):
get that, done As nick was very busy on draft
day maneuvering his way. Through they'll be on the field.
Tomorrow i'm not sure the players we will speak with,
tomorrow but might be one of. Them mini camp on
going for The, texans and a little bit of the
time they give us to see them comes tomorrow morning
before the, show so we'll bring that to you. Tomorrow, Higgins, Noel,

(02:01:18):
Reid ursery and the rest of the young, players along
with a handful of their currently rostered young group and
undrafted free, agents should all be out there tomorrow doing
not a whole heck of a, lot but it is
a little bit of a crash course for them because
the whole team will be in next. Week so as
much as they can, learn it's more about learning the

(02:01:39):
playbooks and learning what the coaches are looking for from,
you and kind of learning the procedures of what you'll
be doing now that everybody else is there next week
and the rest of their OTAs will come quicker than you.
Think they'll have their mandatory mini, camp it will not
be In. Maui that's saved for The, rams and then
they'll be ready for the season to. Start they have,

(02:02:01):
well they definitely have everything in place there'll be four
or five notable signings between now and opening. Day they'll
sign a couple players after cut, day but THOSE i
don't even know If i'd considered. Notable they'll release a
couple players you'll be surprised. At they'll keep a couple
of players you're surprised, at and then somebody else will release,
somebody and you'll fill in the. Gaps these aren't gonna
be frontline, guys but between now and, then there might be,

(02:02:23):
one two or three.

Speaker 3 (02:02:25):
Notable additions to this.

Speaker 4 (02:02:26):
Team and certainly the offensive line is a spot that
they could still do that with if a player becomes.
Available there's Still Will hernandez out, there and they're still
making waiver. Claims they've made a couple of those here
in the last handful of, days and they still have
to get these players signed a league. Wide it's at
least become official the deal between These steelers and The.
Cowboys cowboys Get George, pickens receive a sixth round, pick

(02:02:50):
send out a fifth and a. Third the third pick
is the only third round, pick is the only pick
in the upcoming. Draft each of the other two come
in twenty. Seven Gave davis his release from The jaguars
was reported, yesterday and as it becomes official, today it's
actually with a failed physical, designation THOUGH i don't believe
that is of any consequence when and if some OTHER

(02:03:13):
nfl team, says, man we could use an average receiver
and are you, interested he'll get his, place and he
will sign and we'll move on from The Gabe davis.
EXPERIENCE i don't know that he'll play a significant role
for ANY nfl, team let alone a team in this,
division which was probably the only reason his name even
came up last, year since he was going to be
in this division and be one of the targets The
texans would have to attempt if they could shut, down

(02:03:35):
which turned out to be a much more difficult task
because he wasn't out there Because Brian Thomas junior. Was
and NOW i ask if you are interested in a
reunion with recently released No Jadevian.

Speaker 3 (02:03:51):
CLOWNEY i, mean how old is he?

Speaker 4 (02:03:53):
Now he's ninety, six ninety six years, old thirty two
year OLD nfl Veteran Jadavi clowney.

Speaker 3 (02:04:00):
Might as well be ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:04:01):
Six he will play in THE nfl this, year not For.
Houston pretty unlikely plays For. HOUSTON i was only not
really asking.

Speaker 3 (02:04:08):
And how much would? He will he play wherever he?

Speaker 4 (02:04:10):
Plays, now he's been on the field quite a bit
actually the last four, years albeit with three, teams and
he's if you, recall he played five years In houston
and should have at least been here for he's sixth
after his rookie contract expired after the first five because
they just messed up how they franchise tagged him and
ultimately moved.

Speaker 3 (02:04:28):
Him why he was running the.

Speaker 4 (02:04:29):
Franchise william O'Brien has played For, Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland baltimore And.
Carolina since he's Like Ryan hollins that followed except for,
nice but He's ryan's. Nice he's nice and. Mean they're both.
Nice he's. Okay Genevian clowney's a perfectly nice. Human he's.

Speaker 3 (02:04:48):
Fine you. Don't he's Not Ryan hollands. NICE i just
don't know him as. Well you don't hang with. HIM
i Know. Ryan i'm not trying.

Speaker 4 (02:04:55):
To i'm trying to prevent you from talking negatively About
jadavi And i'm not trying to to prevent you talking
positively About Ryan.

Speaker 3 (02:05:02):
Good BECAUSE i. Won't i'm not asking you to. NO
i think he'll have AN nfl.

Speaker 4 (02:05:07):
Job he'll be he's much more of a specialist, now
and even though he's a specialist as an edge, player
his specialty's not necessarily being super disruptive in the past.
GAME i thought he was pretty disruptive last year With,
carolina but he's still very good against the. RUN i
think that's why he'll still have a home somewhere again
in a limited, role not as a, starter not taking

(02:05:27):
probably more than forty to fifty percent of the snaps if,
that in any.

Speaker 3 (02:05:31):
Game but he is still just two years removed from
what he did In.

Speaker 4 (02:05:33):
Baltimore he's part of a really good, defense a team
that had a good long. Run had his career high
in sacks three. Times he's been over not or four.
Times he's been at nine or. Better still has no
double figure sack. Seasons but as a number one, PICK
i know he'll always be looked at as someone who
didn't perform up to what a team decided he should.

(02:05:53):
Be but he's going to play into His he's playing
into his second decade of OF nfl. Football that they
don't all do, that He'll i'll have a, home it
just won't be.

Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Here how many players do you think See bill O'Brien and, Think,
Ah i'd like to go up and say hi to.
Him that's a positive part of my.

Speaker 4 (02:06:11):
LIFE i didn't even realize that would take us. HERE
i would have pulled the, audio BUT i can just
tell you WHAT i. Heard And i'm not sure When
carl nasib was a guest On The, pivot the podcast
With channing crowd Or Fred taylor And Ryan.

Speaker 3 (02:06:27):
Clark pretty sure it was last.

Speaker 4 (02:06:28):
Week, Okay so he is former defensive END nfl player
played his college football At Penn. State his head coach
At Penn state Was bill. O'Brien it was In Happy.
Valley his path to THE nfl was not what you'd
expect of somebody who was as successful in THE nfl
As nacid. Was he was pretty successful a pass rusher

(02:06:49):
and was drafted to be such out Of Penn, state
but when he got To Penn, state he was not on.
Scholarship he was a walk. On he was doing anything
he could to impress, coaches be a part of the,
team get to a point where he could be literally
on the. Team and after his first year of, that
or first semester of, that you, know you have your
end of season meetings with your coaching, staff And bill

(02:07:11):
O'Brien was the head coach who had a meeting with,
him and you, know he was pretty tight with, somebody
his brother who had made it to the, League ryan
Nasib and you, know he explained To bill in the
initial part of their, conversation you, KNOW i want to
be in THE. NFL i want to play in THE.
Nfl and this is while he is not even technically
on the, team and he'd walked.

Speaker 3 (02:07:30):
ON i GUESS i shouldn't say it that. Way he's
a walk.

Speaker 4 (02:07:32):
On he, SAID i want to be in THE, nfl
and he explained it this, way Saying bill basically cut
him off right there and, said that's. Ridiculous that's almost
insulting for you to think, that as, in you stink
that's never going to. Happen and he basically that was
the end of our, meeting and he walked out the, door.

Speaker 3 (02:07:50):
Like think About DeAndre, hopkins. CLOWNEY i, mean let me
let me get to the rest of the, story all.

Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
Right so then that what does that do to a
player who isn't going to give up on his dream
just because some guy said he.

Speaker 3 (02:08:03):
Should it fuels.

Speaker 4 (02:08:04):
Him it fuels, him so he put on fifteen pounds of.
Muscle he worked his butt. Off he gets called into
the office the next time next, year and a bunch
of his, buddies same. Situation why are we getting called
in the? Office is this? IT i guess this is
it for. Me my hopes of playing are. Over and
he goes in there and he says he's impressed with
what you've. Done we're putting you on, scholarship and you

(02:08:26):
proved me. Wrong And Carl nassa, Said bill told him
you proved me. Wrong so he's getting softer in his old. Age,
no he's just, SAYING i don't think he set it
to try to get the player to be better and
work harder and become more of what he ended up.

Speaker 3 (02:08:39):
Being but it.

Speaker 4 (02:08:40):
Worked it's how the player handled it very well and
dealt with it very well and became AN nfl, player
at least in his. Mind some of it from a motivational,
standpoint because someone told him he. Couldn't but that sound
LIKE i like hearing stories from players with people that we,
know people we've, covered, coaches, players, executives. Whatever WHEN i

(02:09:02):
know it to be true that sounds exactly. Right it's totally.
Believable he's not embellishing the. Story he didn't make it
up for. Effect it's not even. TRUE i know that's.
True of course that's what. Happened we've heard too many
other stories like. THAT i don't think It's bill getting
softer on the other side giving him a. Scholarship bill's,
LIKE i guess this player is pretty. Good i'll give

(02:09:22):
him a. Scholarship this is good for. Me we have
a better team. Now this player is. Good it WASN'T
i love the way this guy went after, it and
might that might be true factored, in but.

Speaker 3 (02:09:31):
He's, yeah he proved him. Wrong the funny the funniest
thing to me about the bell O'Brien, Era and believe,
me there weren't a lot of funny. Things you. Know
he's a good.

Speaker 4 (02:09:40):
Coach, yeah that's definitely on your family feud list of
top eight things wex says that you, Hate.

Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
It's it's at the. TOP i don't know that there's
something that you say THAT i hate.

Speaker 4 (02:09:52):
More but as A gm and and everything, ELSE i get.
It he's not so.

Speaker 3 (02:09:56):
Good you can't have. You, YEAH i mean he's just,
like but how about. This this is actually something that
we hardly ever talk. About what did both damico' ryans
and Email udoka instantly Do basically when they walked in
the door after they got, Hired i'm in, charge, Correct

(02:10:17):
but they changed the, culture which is What bill O'Brien
fancied himself as when he got, here taking everybody's picture,
down trying to let anybody who would listen, Know i'm in.
Charge now it's. Different there's a new sheriff in. Town
we're gonna do things differently. Now like basically put all three.

Speaker 4 (02:10:37):
Together dimiko took over a franchise that was headed, nowhere
and Emay udoka took over a franchise that had been
doing what nothing And bill O'Brien's first year was following
too and, fourteen so they were going to dead. Place,
remarkably each of them after two season in. Charge demiko

(02:11:01):
has been in charge two, seasons has been a charge two,
seasons and after the first two seasons Of bill O'Brien
when they all took over comparably pathetic can't win, outfits
none of them had a losing season in any of
those six. Seasons bill won immediately nine and, seven nine and.

(02:11:21):
Seven demiko obviously won, immediately AND i did say didn't
have a losing season because our.

Speaker 3 (02:11:27):
Games, yeah it were on the.

Speaker 4 (02:11:29):
Schedule i'm a little bit, Surprised LIKE i DON'T i
agree the culture wasn't really, changed but they did win
immediately With.

Speaker 3 (02:11:35):
Bill by the, Way i've been told by someone anonymous
to let you, know not to use the phrase worked
his bleep off when referring To Carl. NASSIN i can
understand why fools would say. That, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:11:51):
The a On Sports talk seven, Ninety i'm.

Speaker 3 (02:12:01):
Sure you've seen the video Of metallica finally playing At
Virginia tech Football, stadium.

Speaker 4 (02:12:08):
Like we've all been waiting for this they.

Speaker 3 (02:12:09):
Have i've seen.

Speaker 4 (02:12:11):
It, yeah it was pretty. AWESOME i, mean AM i
missing as? Something i'm truly being not trying to be.

Speaker 3 (02:12:16):
Dumb is this some?

Speaker 4 (02:12:18):
Significance this particular football stadium that they're playing, at Okay.

Speaker 9 (02:12:23):
So Lane, stadium which hosts The hokies fifty five.

Speaker 3 (02:12:27):
Thousand it is.

Speaker 9 (02:12:28):
Known for having one of the greatest walkout traditions in
all of college football because walkout to enter and they've
never gone To Lane stadium to. Perform and last night
you got to see the entire field filled with people
who probably were even younger than me embracing what is
that song being performed?

Speaker 4 (02:12:47):
Live, YEAH i just, sometimes you, know in my old,
AGE i just never, clicked even though it's Obvious i've
already Said i've seen.

Speaker 3 (02:12:56):
IT i, mean it didn't. Click it's not like this
is Not this song came out in nineteen ninety, one
so it's not like they've been doing this since the,
sixties like some traditions in college.

Speaker 4 (02:13:05):
Football, no BUT i think a lot of the traditions
like this have. Changed by the, way there actually was
some college football news that we certainly should be pushing
for our, people especially as we are the home Of longhorns.

Speaker 9 (02:13:16):
Football how but we wait and tell you in case
you missed, it since that's one of the things that
we have on occasion missed.

Speaker 4 (02:13:20):
It we could, wait but it seemed appropriate. Here, okay,
OKAY i, mean you're not going to run out of.
Things you're making it sound like these the only thing
on the. List every, day they're in here for three
and a half hours and they never missed. Anything what
AM i supposed to do at five thirty when it
case you missed it comes on these guys are so
good at touching on every single. Topic we were so

(02:13:42):
good at that where we're like the opposite of. That
in case you missed, it since these guys talked about
only three things all.

Speaker 3 (02:13:47):
Day, today what's wrong with?

Speaker 4 (02:13:49):
That there's a bunch of other things that took place.

Speaker 3 (02:13:50):
Today so what? Happened miss?

Speaker 4 (02:13:52):
Nothing i'm now being guilted into?

Speaker 3 (02:13:55):
Guilty but What just? Still come, on, man now people
will still. Black, hey let's, Go oh my. Gosh by the,
way the video of the exterior of the stadium from
very very follow far away as the crowd is singing,
along just. Spectacular by the, Way june, Fourteenth you, going you?
Coming you going with over at An Urge? Stadium james

(02:14:20):
And lars And kirk and uh? Yes and why AM?
I why AM i drawing a blank on? True?

Speaker 4 (02:14:28):
Heo why CAN'T i think of true hello's first? NAME
i don't know his first. NAME i can't Help, Yes,
danny that's what it. IS I tad the guy From.
Machete you Mean Trey.

Speaker 6 (02:14:39):
Hoe.

Speaker 3 (02:14:41):
No the basis FOR i hate both of you right
now and all of the rest of you that are
inevitably laughing at me and watching and.

Speaker 4 (02:14:47):
Laughing they're probably with you and mad at.

Speaker 3 (02:14:50):
Us It's Robert robert true, here Not, danny not the
guy from machetey, uh No angerman who's getting the crowd
warmed up to you Know?

Speaker 4 (02:15:00):
Pantera, okay well that's that's pretty.

Speaker 3 (02:15:01):
Good Actually pantera is not going to be warming the crowd.
Up they're going to be. Opening THERE'S i can't remember
who the band is before, That but.

Speaker 4 (02:15:08):
Do you just do you know the configuration from a
capacity standpoint for this shows what they would normally.

Speaker 3 (02:15:15):
Have it's in the, round but not because it's a snake,
pit so you haven't in the round. Setup but then
you can also stand inside of, there Which i'm HOPING i.

Speaker 4 (02:15:24):
Do what is the metallicaally? Reach as you attend this?
Show for you you'll be at how many?

Speaker 3 (02:15:30):
Shows? Six and the last show Was arlington and it
was how long? Ago twenty three so.

Speaker 4 (02:15:38):
They were spent a lot of time In, Arlington so
probably not much different performance now from. Then the only
in your mind has there been any difference along this
road from in their heyday and their awesomeness and.

Speaker 3 (02:15:48):
Youth they're sixty, now that's WHAT i. Mean but they
still sound like they're at least, forty.

Speaker 4 (02:15:53):
And like bands who produce music Like james, produces that's
hard to do to perform.

Speaker 3 (02:16:01):
It you mean for? HIM i think they can play it. Still,
yeah Well lars is. NOT i mean that's, no that's
no picnic. Playing, no IT'S i don't none of it's
easy at this. AGE i do think the person belting
it out is a little bit more. Difficult robert And
kirk can handle it as long as they don't have.
Arthritis that's WHAT i.

Speaker 4 (02:16:16):
Mean it's like It's i've talked about him many. Times
you go see like Before eddie's, passing you go See Van.
Halen regardless of whether it Was michael or Whether wolfgang
was with, them and this was with wolf But eddie
And alex.

Speaker 3 (02:16:29):
ARE i could have been any.

Speaker 4 (02:16:31):
Year one thing for, sure the singer was out there with,
him and he was embarrassing and he was, awful and
he ruined the whole.

Speaker 3 (02:16:36):
Show and you can't. Sing and now it's the other
guy who sang for, them who anytime anybody says anything not,
him it didn't. Happen it's Like rocky, Five it never.
Happened that. Guy anytime he hears a whiff of somebody
mentioning something about Van halen Or eddie or. Anything, Oh
i've got some thoughts on that. Here let me insert

(02:16:57):
myself into this. Interview are you Anti? Sammy i'm not
Anti sammy the, singer like.

Speaker 4 (02:17:02):
He's still out there. Performing, yeah it's a lot of different.
People we like a.

Speaker 3 (02:17:06):
Lot, Yeah, NO i would go seeing he's With Joe,
Satrianni i'd go see. Him but, like just shut up
about Van. Halen, man it.

Speaker 4 (02:17:12):
Was a part of what has been an exceptionally long rocketing.

Speaker 3 (02:17:17):
Career a lot of good records, together and that's all these.

Speaker 4 (02:17:20):
They made nothing but good records.

Speaker 3 (02:17:22):
Together, well some people disagree with you because he is
Not Diamond.

Speaker 4 (02:17:26):
Dave you can have him. Both it's, okay And i'm. Fine,
like do you not like any of The sammy produced Van?
HALEN i don't like. IT i don't like Van halen Pre, Sammy,
RIGHT i.

Speaker 3 (02:17:38):
Don't like Van. Halen fans are, like oh anything for
everything After david was, no can't have, that OR i
don't think there's anybody that's like A Diamond. Dave can't do.

Speaker 4 (02:17:48):
THAT i mean the harder back, Then dave was a super,
showman great performer and could sing then like a few
others could a little bit like unless.

Speaker 3 (02:17:59):
You isolated vocals and you, realize, no he.

Speaker 4 (02:18:01):
Couldn't but then you added a lead singer who also
plays the guitar and.

Speaker 3 (02:18:07):
Could probably sing at the truest definition of the word
better Like David Lee roth was more about squeaking and
squealing and just you, know or told you. That teresa
used to be able to do a like dead on
Accurate David Lee roth impression until she Had carson.

Speaker 4 (02:18:28):
As a performer or like a, speaker, no just like
his little mannerism so that he would do all. Right
and once she Had, carson she couldn't do it.

Speaker 3 (02:18:36):
Anymore she was out or she couldn't do. It that's
not for. Me have you outgrown?

Speaker 9 (02:18:41):
That?

Speaker 3 (02:18:41):
No like he, like having the experience of having him
in childbirth changed her vocal chords at least in that.
Regard he's very active in the womb and still to
this day very. Active Now so, Anyways Virginia.

Speaker 4 (02:18:56):
Tech now things like that are cool and the.

Speaker 3 (02:19:00):
But how long have they done? This that's my.

Speaker 9 (02:19:01):
Question H it's been twenty nine, years twenty If Frank
beimer was still, there SO i.

Speaker 3 (02:19:08):
Really don't know, this AND i think like things like
this are one of my favorite things about, sports like
The Chicago bulls introductions During, jordan like The pulp's. Introduction yeah, Yeah, well,
HONESTLY i Think ross might have won the day as
far as memes about, that Because i'm not even gonna
say what he. Did you can go to check out
His instagram account at SPORTS. Rv but, no LIKE i,

(02:19:31):
if how did this come to? Be like usually this
kind of stuff? Happened, well, always this kind of stuff happens,
Organically like for, example when the bull started using The
Alan Parsons project music that everybody knows and loves, now
it's because the THEN pa announcer at the, time Not
Ray clay that everybody. Knows he was doing the lineups

(02:19:53):
and he heard that song in an elevator or something
at a hotel and he, thought, well that would be.
Cool we need to use something different that nobody else
is using for starting lineup. Introduction why was it being
played in an, elevator is my. Question, well it's it's
it's a progressive rock and it was the. Eighties, okay fair,
enough that's what you play in. Elevators it's called ish elevator.

Speaker 4 (02:20:13):
MUSIC i wish they play that kind of music in the.

Speaker 3 (02:20:15):
Elevator what do they playing? Now? Worse what is?

Speaker 4 (02:20:19):
It unlistenable? Nonsense are we talking like two thousand? Music
or are we talking like EVEN i, mean IS i
know the idea behind elevator? Music how could anybody really dislike?

Speaker 5 (02:20:30):
It?

Speaker 4 (02:20:30):
Though so we'll just play this generic nonsense because it's. Jazz,
well why can't we just play good music Like Van halen,
anything it's anything that's, popular it's not especially with all
the avenues you have to get.

Speaker 3 (02:20:41):
It so Lady gaga is going to be on the. Elevator,
well it depends on the venue, Too like you're not
going to go to a real classy joint like a
hotel Like, okay for, example like we were In. Vegas
how do you say? It it's not fountain contained. Whatever
however you say That French canadian you got into the,

(02:21:01):
elevator and there, after of course you inhaled THE i
don't even know what you call that they're piping. There,
well it's something to kind of distract from the cigarette
smoke that's wafting through and ruining the brand new. Walls
you get on the elevator there there was music, playing
but it was of course classy.

Speaker 4 (02:21:17):
Music one more reason why not the greatest venue there In,
vegas but being playing gaming at THE uh Hard rock
when it was there was awesome because the music was
tremendous hard rock so.

Speaker 3 (02:21:31):
Good you, know it's not cool getting out OF T
Mobile arena and walking through the is it The Monte
carlo that connects right, there that's close. By so of
all of the casinos and Alder one smelt like, cigarettes
that was the most effective. One where after you walked
out of, there whoever you were with or weren't, WITH
i guess when you got to, them they're, like how

(02:21:54):
many did you? Have as in? Packs that's what you
would smell like just walking through that. Place so one
thing About VEGAS i can't. Stand, well it's, legal everything's legal, there,
right BUT i don't want to smell like you because
you do, that you third world. Citizen sorry If i'm
offending all the smoking, listeners but that's just HOW i.

Speaker 4 (02:22:11):
FEEL i, mean you can control what you can, control
you don't do.

Speaker 3 (02:22:15):
IT i cannot wait Until cole tells us what you
wouldn't tell us this?

Speaker 4 (02:22:20):
Segment what, yes it does involve Your university Of Texas
longhorns and college. Football we'll give that to you next
when we get you caught up With In case you
missed it.

Speaker 1 (02:22:32):
THE A team On Sports talk seven Ninety.

Speaker 4 (02:22:41):
It is time for in case You BUT i want
to tell you here that's. Good we've missed a few.
Items it's a regular day here on THE A. Team
we've missed a few. Things there's also usually a thing
or two that probably deserves a little more thought provoking
intel from the three of us. Here so those things
often come up and in case you missed, it but
we actually tease something rather specific for in case you
miss to today as the home of The, Longhorns, cole

(02:23:03):
what do we have?

Speaker 3 (02:23:03):
Today?

Speaker 10 (02:23:04):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (02:23:04):
Wax do you Like? THANKSGIVING i love? It lots of
Show do you like It? Friday DO i Like Black? Friday?
Yeah there's a lot of acs mess Of Black? FRIDAY i?

Speaker 5 (02:23:14):
Like?

Speaker 9 (02:23:14):
Sure do you like the fact that you now can
watch The Lone Star showdown be played On Black? Friday
because The university Of texas And TEXAS a AND m
no longer going to have A saturday showdown Playing Friday
november twenty, eighth six THIRTY pm on the forty ACRES
Dkr rock And, rolling the second.

Speaker 2 (02:23:32):
Time the rivalry is.

Speaker 9 (02:23:33):
Back since twenty, twelve with both teams playing in the se.
Scene an opportunity to now gotta get away from the,
family maybe Leaf, houston go up north and see a
little bit of what we could actually get, of maybe
a game that has massive colleg FOOTBALL.

Speaker 4 (02:23:46):
Playff i'd say odds are very very. HIGH i will
be watching this Year's Texas TEXAS a AND m game
from somewhere different than WHEN i was watching last Year's
Texas TEXAS a AND m, game which was WHERE a
both field side and in the booth In utah For
Cougar's what was the temperature, Again, well The longhorn. GAME

(02:24:07):
i think it ended by the TIME i really got
freezing down there on the field With.

Speaker 3 (02:24:10):
STORMY i remember That.

Speaker 4 (02:24:12):
Stormy she was THE espn sideline reporter for that evening's,
game Storm View. Bontonomy that's not The STORMY i thought you.
Were does also have blonde, hair but she's a sports,
reporter a gambling, analyst so we like her a. Lot,
yeah she's. Cool she is nice of a, lady handy
if you don't have if there's ANYTHING i can do
to help you out With cougar, Football, Intel i'm happy

(02:24:34):
To she didn't.

Speaker 3 (02:24:35):
Need any help from.

Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
Me she was freezing. Too she was properly dressed for the,
cold as WAS. I but, YES i will not be
watching it From utah this Year i'm looking FOR i
think this is. Good it's a little bit more stand
alone on A, friday not all. Alone what will we?
Have probably three games On.

Speaker 9 (02:24:53):
Friday, well the Egg bowl got moved From thursday To.
Friday that's going to start off the day at eleven.
Am Usually Penn state plays On Block friday at this,
point so they probably are going to be the two o'clock,
game and then you're close.

Speaker 3 (02:25:03):
Out with The Lone Star. SHOW i love. IT i
think this is. GREAT i would you prefer On? Thanksgiving,
yes that's my.

Speaker 9 (02:25:10):
THING i am somebody who is embracing tradition of college
football and grew up in such a big college football
home that like that and The Egg bowl were things
THAT i. WATCHED i may watch THE nfl On, THURSDAY
i watched college football On.

Speaker 4 (02:25:21):
Thursday i'm always explaining to the reason why that makes
sense to so many. People, yeah And i'm not like,
that SO i love the fact that both days are
full of, football regardless of where it's coming from and
who's playing out a full day OF, nfl now the
evening game, too and now a full day of college
football both.

Speaker 3 (02:25:39):
Days i'm always interested, BECAUSE i, mean this is one of,
those you, know not common, occurrences something like this that
has gone away for a long, time and now it's
come back to where you can have a debate about
the actual. Date would you prefer It Aggie's longhorns, fans
if it's On Thanksgiving, night if it's on for if

(02:26:00):
it's On, saturday or do you?

Speaker 9 (02:26:01):
CARE i will, say as somebody that covers THE sec
and loves THE, sec having a game on every single
day makes it easier for. Me but at the same,
time there's something about tradition that always stands, out and
for me growing up having friends that went TO, ut
having family members on the other side that were Big,
aggies we'd always go sit around the, House we'd always
go to a. Tailgate sometimes we would actually go to

(02:26:23):
the pacaity and get ready for the game. Itself it
was just part of the tradition THAT i think is.

Speaker 3 (02:26:28):
Really hard to.

Speaker 4 (02:26:28):
Surpass pardon my. Ignorance is there ANOTHER sec matchup normally
slated for that three day? Weekend, well the Egg bowl
is always, On, yes that's, one and Then, texas Tex
a and m is now? Too was there is not
a third annual?

Speaker 3 (02:26:43):
Game?

Speaker 10 (02:26:43):
No there?

Speaker 3 (02:26:44):
Is, okay, oh.

Speaker 4 (02:26:45):
The Auburn alabama. Game that's WHY i, said what missing?

Speaker 9 (02:26:51):
Something and then of course you also got to throw
in the game which is always going to take place
between a somehow national Champion Ohio state that can't get
Past michigan Without Jim.

Speaker 4 (02:26:59):
Hart still on the. Sideline, YEAH i, MEAN i know
there's plenty of other games for that. WEEKEND i had
obviously blanked again, Today good day On Auburn.

Speaker 3 (02:27:07):
Alabama what else do we? Have whoa two in one.

Speaker 9 (02:27:12):
Show you mentioned That Jaden hagen signed a four, year fully,
guaranteed eleven million dollar, deal but he was not the
Only texan to sign his contract. Today Kyante, hamilton the
seventh round defensive, tackle also has great terms on a
four year, deal so he is locked up on a
new contract through twenty twenty eight and will be on
the field tomorrow as he Signed.

Speaker 3 (02:27:32):
TEXAN i, mean for, me it doesn't get any better
than when you lock up your seventh, round.

Speaker 4 (02:27:35):
Seventh, round as you guys, Mock i'll ask a serious football.
Question sure so, resigned fully fought. Acasi Tim settle returns
from last year's. Team he's already under a two year. Deal,
Currently Denico autry is into the second year of his
CONTRACT u two year deals two years for twenty and

(02:27:55):
then they re Signed Sheldon, rankins and then they have
some other players who could see Time i'm there and
certainly would be in the mix to try to earn time.
There who Is keyante most like from a technique in size?
Standpoint and do you see him making the. Team my
answer to that second question is, YES.

Speaker 9 (02:28:15):
I see him making the team because of if you're
saying him Or Kurt. HEINISCH i Know i'm Getting, kurt
SO i might as well trust What i'm gonna get
In kiante if.

Speaker 3 (02:28:21):
He ends up having a better. CAMP i see.

Speaker 9 (02:28:25):
A much more fluid version Of Sheldon, rankins but, bigger
like he's not as big As Tim, settle but he
ALSO i think is more agile Than Tim.

Speaker 4 (02:28:34):
Settle they have had a very clear Vision Dimigo ryans
and Coach burke and their defensive line Coach Rod wright
now their new assistant d line, Coach frank Oakum okam
on what they want from that, group and that's why
they shuffled the deck dramatically after year one two year,
two and that's why the group that they're bringing back

(02:28:56):
looks a lot like even with some new, names this
group they had a.

Speaker 3 (02:28:59):
Year what else do we?

Speaker 9 (02:29:00):
Have so congratulations are in order to The United states
because for the first time, ever we do have a,
pope A Pope leo From. Chicago leo the fourteenth was
named as the successor For Pro francis and now there
is a tiff that is going on in The Windy.

Speaker 3 (02:29:18):
City because The Chicago.

Speaker 9 (02:29:21):
Cubs decided to release a congratulations statement claiming that he
was a fan of the team THAT i despised the
most and as somebody that has family From chicago that
grew up in The White sox, household The White sox
also releases statement Congratulating Pope leo the. Fourteenth, well he
has yet to be able to confirm the angel question

(02:29:41):
are you from The South side or do you root
for The North? Side but family members they might be
able to have a better answer for you on.

Speaker 3 (02:29:47):
This, yeah he was never ever A cubs, fan SO
i don't know where that came. From he was always
A sox. Fan but for The white sce that's. Right
but where it came, FROM i don't, know because he
would have been the only. One it's.

Speaker 9 (02:29:58):
Beautiful i'm so thankful THAT i live in a world
where the first, pope as somebody who Is, catholic does
not root for that cesspool of an organization that they
call in The Windy, city The Chicago.

Speaker 6 (02:30:08):
Cubs what's important is whether you root for The cubs
or The White. Socks he's An american, pope and that's what's.
Important many many popes. Auditioned there were a lot of popes,
actually but not the one that they chose today From,
america The United states of popes right.

Speaker 3 (02:30:26):
HERE i think he's probably pretty happy about where this
pope came. From when was the last time we had
An american? POPE i didn't even know this was the first.

Speaker 4 (02:30:33):
One the last time was earlier today when they announced
that he was the new.

Speaker 3 (02:30:36):
Pope. Yeah, really? Huh were they all all the other
ones From, Rome.

Speaker 9 (02:30:39):
Italit, Italy, Russia There's, Austria argentina was the last one
In Pope.

Speaker 3 (02:30:45):
Francis the winning never. Stops even The pope Is. American
that's what he would.

Speaker 9 (02:30:51):
SAY i THINK i got one more for you because OF,
wex AND i might have to Eat crow on this,
one But i'll wait until after the commercial.

Speaker 3 (02:30:57):
Break oh, okay all, right, finals two people on the
show not named me are gonna Eat. CROW i look
forward to that when we come back the age On
Sports talk seven.

Speaker 1 (02:31:10):
Ninety.

Speaker 3 (02:31:17):
Where DID i? MISS i don't, know what did you?
MISS i don't. Know cale had something that he was
going to. Say, here all, right.

Speaker 4 (02:31:23):
The last item from in case you missed, It in
case you missed it comes, now.

Speaker 3 (02:31:28):
Fire AWAY Wex Sports.

Speaker 4 (02:31:31):
Talk seven Ninety Your, southwest your Deep? Southwest what are
Your dallas?

Speaker 9 (02:31:36):
Sports so congratulations are in. ORDER i guessed to The
Dallas cowboys for making a tray to Land George. Pickens
there's a slight problem with that. Though according to the
Athletics Jeff, howe multiple teams were inquired to make a
trade For George, pickens and when Omar con was on the,

(02:31:57):
phone they laughed laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh
saying that they would not bring in that type of
culture to their locker, room especially for a stay two.
Selection so The, cowboys based off everything that we're hearing
right now coming out Of, pittsburgh they may have been,
swindled And pittsburgh once again continues to know when it's

(02:32:18):
the right time to split ship with the wide receiver
as The Dallas cowboys stay mediocre in twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:32:24):
Five you know you're mentioning all this about The, cowboys
and obviously the tongue in cheek not so tongue in
cheek imaging for this. Segment what is? It how did
you correct yourself on the? Fly Your, southwest your Deep.
Southwest we haven't made one mention of the fact That
Nico harrison's taking no prisoners In dallas for The. Mavericks

(02:32:46):
not only.

Speaker 4 (02:32:47):
We don't usually mention non balancing the ball personnel moves for, franchises.

Speaker 3 (02:32:53):
But in this case we'll make an exception because not
only did he ship out the best player on the,
team he also shipped out the training. Staff he's just
taking him achetdy to that whole. Organization, seriously if you
think that the conspiracy that they're trying to tear this
thing down to get it To vegas doesn't exist and
isn't gaining steam with each move that he. MAKES i,

(02:33:16):
mean why else would you start firing people that have
nothing to do with bouncing the BALL i.

Speaker 4 (02:33:20):
Do this is also the second Time harrison's done a
little bit of house cleaning on the performance, staff and
that's Why tim McMahon and others In dallas brought it
up so many times over the last couple of weeks about,
well you've made this move and you've Alienated dirk and
you got rid of these performance people that now he's
kind of acknowledging and this last. SEASON i don't, know

(02:33:41):
it's always hard to, say, well look at what injuries we,
had so it's your. FAULT i don't know that one
plus one equals two every, time but they did.

Speaker 3 (02:33:50):
Have an inordinate amount of, injuries Plus Anthony davis on the. Roster,
well they had all those.

Speaker 4 (02:33:55):
Injuries, now a couple of them did happen right after
he got the. Average but what's your theory? Goal, YEAH
i truly believe.

Speaker 9 (02:34:02):
At this point That Nico harrison is doing a favor
for the city At dallas and that because they're eventually
going to find their way to land the number one
overall pick With cooper. FLAG i have no idea how
it's gonna. Happen THE nba made sure that they were
going to send off a superstar To Los angeles to
make a name for The. Blakers With lebrona's way, Out

(02:34:22):
we're gonna give, You we're gonna give You. Cooper you
can hit the reset. Button but he's also lowering expectations
for the city because there's only one franchise and it's
the single worst franchise who ever exists in the history
of sports that has a shot of winning anything in
the next five. Years, well just because you brought it,
up they are in the, lottery The. Mavericks they're the
thirty nine and forty three.

Speaker 4 (02:34:43):
Record the tiebreaker with the other team at thirty nine
and forty three put them in the eleventh, spot eight
and a half percent chance of top. Four you Said cooper.
Flag they were one point eight percent chance of Landing Cooper.
Flag but because you brought up the draft, LOTTERY i
ran one and then. A i ran two, simulations AND
i WISH i was screen recording at the. Time simulation

(02:35:06):
number one of the, day which literally happened in the
last sixty, seconds Had phoenix landing the number one. Pick
that's The. Rockets that's The rockets. Pick dallas did not.
Move THEN i hit. Reset i'm kind of a stickler
BEFORE i run a new, SIMULATION i reset it makes it,
fair and THEN i pushed sim lottery. Again hat tip To,
takathon WHERE i do my. Simulations SO i ran simulation

(02:35:29):
number two And phoenix landed the number one.

Speaker 3 (02:35:32):
Pick, again that's The, Rockets AND i wish the draft
lottery is today on your.

Speaker 4 (02:35:36):
Computer, yeah hopefully we'll find out in the next couple of,
days both publicly who The rockets will be sending in
the other participants that will be going for their respective.

Speaker 3 (02:35:44):
Teams it's just.

Speaker 4 (02:35:45):
Fun it doesn't mean anything brings any, luck but it
is fun to see whose faces we get to, watch
cringe and celebrate as the envelopes are unveiled and.

Speaker 3 (02:35:56):
Once AGAIN i know who's going to be attending on
behalf of the. Rocket IT'S i think It's i'm just gonna.
Leave i'm just gonna leave it at that perfect breaking.
News no, no, no no no, NO i can't reveal.
It i've been told not. To gotcham BUT i like
if they get the number one. PICK i REALLY i
think some people think they. KNOW i don't know what

(02:36:17):
they're gonna. Do people are just gonna, assume will you
Take cooper flag you? Idiot but there's.

Speaker 4 (02:36:23):
Options there definitely are, Options and from a trade, standpoint
it opens up even more options because you're looking at
who who are we giving up and what are we?
Getting but you've now added a player to the, roster
any player you. Want it's in the. Draft we obviously
know who that player, is but now he's on your.
Team so IF i was looking to move PLAYER, x
who would be in front of or competing with him for,

(02:36:43):
MINUTES i don't really have to worry about it. ANYMORE
i just make SURE i keep one of. Them presumably
it's the newer, guy the shinier, toy and that gives
you SOME i, mean or is IT i said presumably
doesn't necessarily have to be their opinion because he also
if he's the shiny new toy for, you he's probably.

Speaker 3 (02:37:02):
A shiny new toy for them.

Speaker 4 (02:37:03):
TOO i, mean just Say Jabari Smith, junior because that
is very likely the position that he's playing a Men
Thompson Tauri east in those minutes that the three. Four,
okay well you're, fine you're going to be fine either.
Way what makes the most sense around how you're fine
Trading Cooper flag in everything you can get back in that,
deal or Playing Cooper flag and moving on from one

(02:37:26):
of those three PLAYERS i Mentioned Jabari Smith junior maybe
and what you're building Around cooper and the other, Stars.

Speaker 3 (02:37:33):
Or Does, cooper regardless of his position and this the
answer is, yes make it easier for you to reach
out and get someone else that plays another position of
need because now you've got him as a trade.

Speaker 4 (02:37:46):
Ship, yeah this is kind of the. Thing You're you're
all set now at that. Spot it's just a matter
of are you using them to get better Around cooper
in a and he's kind of your new, player or
are Using cooper to go get you that new player
that you think could really make things.

Speaker 3 (02:38:02):
Change and that's what's, crazy BECAUSE i understand why people would, say,
ah you draft him and you keep, him because if
you draft him and then you trade him for someone who's, established,
admittedly you're gonna know what you're getting, back obviously because
they have AN nba, Resume but you don't know What
Cooper flag is going to be in THE, nba and
he may very well be a highly. Touted, eh but

(02:38:24):
he might be, whatever and then you're going to have
to live with that one way or the other if
you deal him before he's ever played a minute in
A rockets.

Speaker 4 (02:38:34):
Uniform do you think he's better Than Andrew?

Speaker 3 (02:38:37):
Wiggins, GEEZ i don't.

Speaker 4 (02:38:41):
Have basically what you're talking, About Andrew wiggins is the
key to the deal as the number one, pick and They,
Yeah cleveland could have had, him but they chose to
Have Kevin love basically.

Speaker 3 (02:38:59):
Instead now was the final piece of the. Three. MAN
i had forgot about that because now he's Gotten Jimmy
butler to The, warriors.

Speaker 4 (02:39:07):
Right But i'm merely talking, About, hey let's Put Andrew
wiggins on our team and let's go play great. Basketball
they chose to Put Kevin love on their team instead
by Using wiggins to land that caliber player.

Speaker 9 (02:39:18):
And then build a big three that could win a.
Championship do you do the same thing?

Speaker 3 (02:39:21):
Here, oh, Man i'm probably.

Speaker 4 (02:39:25):
Not Now, again you had six years Of love as
A timberwolf at the.

Speaker 3 (02:39:30):
Time, Yeah i'm just not as oh my gosh About
Cooper flag as a lot of PEOPLE i think. Are
i'm in the agreements with.

Speaker 4 (02:39:38):
YOU i think he's going to be, outstanding AND i
would say better Than Andrew. Wiggins wiggins is a really
good defensive player and a good offensive, player non ALL
nba caliber.

Speaker 3 (02:39:48):
Play for the sake of, ARGUMENT i know we're about
we're up against, it but say they get the number one, Pick,
yay who is? He who is he uprooting on the? Roster,
yeah that's WHAT i was just. Saying Though maari's going
out in some other deal.
