Speaker 1 (00:04):
Brian Schottenheiner spoke the other day after Cowboys OTAs, and
he said, we're going to have a great season this year.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
We're all about winning.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Dak Prescott said basically the same thing, that he can't
wait to be in a situation to win. Thomas tea
Tree just three punt from five feet?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
He did? Did he just wow?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
He doubled, he had five. He had a five footer
for par and then three jerked it. So he's back
to minus one and JJ Spawn and Burns are now
by themselves at three under as Oakmont's winning. All right,
we'll get to golf in a minute here, but he said,
we're going to be so good that all of our
coordinators and assistant coaches are going to be sought after
by other teams in the NFL because of what we're
(00:43):
going to do this year.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, I don't expect him.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
To say, you know, we're gonna suck this year, no bother,
no reason to put us on TV or show up,
don't buy any tickets.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I mean, what is the coach supposed to say? Now?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
If you listen to Colin Coward, he thinks the Cowboys
are going either four or five win, And I like Colin.
I agree with Colin on a lot of stuff and
I and he gives me a lot of chowfodder because
I disagree with him on a lot of stuff and so,
and that's what sports talk basically is all about. Is
you like something and I don't. And we talked about
it for a little while. Uh JJ sponds down in trouble.
(01:17):
He's got a.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Long putt for part. That wasn't a good chow. That
was a terrible chip.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
So anyway, if you look at the NFC East, I
think Philadelphia has a great roster, and I think they
have an OK coaching staff, and I think they have
an OK team. And yes, they're the defending Super Bowl champs,
and I get that, but teams don't usually repeat unless
you're Kansas City, and I think that the Eagles are
going to have a little bit of a Super Bowl hangover,
(01:43):
especially early in the season the Cowboys. I think the
team that's going to win the NFC East this year
is Washington. I think they're the best team from top
to bottom. I think they have the best quarterback in
the in that division, and they're the the maturation of
that team with Dan Quinn running the show, there. They're
(02:03):
going to be a thirteen to fourteen win team I
think this year, and I think there are not only that,
I think they're a super Bowl contender as well. It
wouldn't be surprised if Washington is in the NFC Championship game.
I don't think the Cowboys are a super Bowl team,
but I think that they are a playoff team if
the dominoes fall correctly. And here's where I think the
(02:24):
dominoes start to fall. If you look at the fact
that the NFC West is the Rams should win that division,
and Seattle should challenge, and Arizona will be slightly better.
And I think the team that's going to be fools
goal this year is San Francisco. And if you look
at the NFC South, I think the winner of that
division is going to win eight or nine games. You
(02:44):
could have a losing record with Atlanta or Tampa winning
that division. And then if you look at the NFC
NFC Central, You've got a lot of teams that.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Could be beat up on each other.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Detroit's probably the best of the teams, but how much more,
how much longer.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Is their window?
Speaker 3 (03:03):
NFC North, NFC North, Yeah, North, I said Central North,
NFC North.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
So you got so you got Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit,
and Minnesota. I think Detroit slightly better and wins that division,
but I think the other three take terms beating each
other up and they could. They could basically negate more
than one team coming out of that as a wildcard.
So you've got four division winners and three wildcards. I
(03:31):
see a scenario where Washington, Philadelphia, and Dallas could make
the the playoffs, Dallas being the seventh seed basically and
probably not win a playoff game.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Maybe they get lucky and win one on the road.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
But I like what they All of this to me
is predicated by hell healthy and how good Dak Prescott
can be. They address their wide receiver spot with Pickens
and Ceedee Lamb. They may have addressed their running back
room by committee with the guys that they got with
and having Jane Blue, and I think Blue is going
to be the starter before the season's over. I think
(04:06):
they've addressed the offensive line with the draft. I think
that they've also a draft the defensive line with trades
and acquisitions in draft, and if Revel can play corner
just a little bit, and I'm sure they've got grades
on him from whatever he was able to do, if anything,
at the OTAs. He still may be restricted on how
much he can do coming off that ACL, but by
(04:27):
the time we get to the end of training camp,
Revel will know how much he can play or not play.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
So I like the Cowboys roster.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
They've got a great kicker, great they've got good special teams.
They've got another edge rusher to help out Micah. We're
going to see a signing of Micah if it's the
hour before kickoff on Opening Day or before. I don't
hate the Cowboys roster, and I think there's probably ten
teams that are a legit playoff teams. Those three teams
(04:56):
that I mentioned in the NFC East, all four teams
in the NFC Central, and then Los Angeles and maybe
Seattle and then either the Tampa Bay Atlanta team whoever
comes out because Carolina New Orleans aren't ready to win yet.
So I don't hate what the Cowboys have. It's a
matter of what can they win nine games? Can they
win ten games? They were seven and ten last year
(05:19):
with a worst roster than they have now. And I
know that Brian Schottenheimer's not a household name as a coach.
But if you look at what the Cowboys have had
as a coach in the last since Jimmy Johnson was there,
is he any worse than anybody other than Bill Parcells.
Is he a worse coach than Jason Garrett? Is he
a worse coach than Wade Phillips. I'm not saying he's
(05:40):
better than they are, but is he Is he worse
than they are? I think he's basically the same guy.
I would say McCartney. McCarthy was as good a coach
as they've had since Jimmy, but Dave Campo and then
you got Parcels, who had the credentials and the Super
Bowl rings.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
I don't forget about Chan Gaily.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Chan Gaily was before him and had Wade and Garrett.
I don't think Brian Schottenheimer's I mean, he's been around
the league forever. He's a legend the son of a
legendary coach. I don't know that he's he's he's been
around the league long enough to know how to call
a play and run an offense. So you're not getting
(06:18):
Belichick and or the good Belichick from New England, and
you're not getting necessarily Andy Reid or some hot shot
play caller like Shanahan. But you're not getting a terrible coach.
At least he's been around the league for a while.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Well he has knowledge. If nothing else will put it
that way, he's been in the league. Uh, and he's
been around the league. It's the the I think we're
we're the uncertainty. And I guess the dislike for the
Cowboys and what the potential win total could be is
it's a Dak thing. It's a nobody in the national
(06:55):
media likes Dak Prescott as a football player.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
A person, nice guy, but football player.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
You know, well, they always bring up, well, he's a
fourth rounder for a reason. So and the fact that
he's the Cowboys, you know, America's teams quarterback. And then
you have Brian Schottenheimer because of the prestige of Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
It's well, this isn't sexy enough, but I get that.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
But you can look at the Detroit Lions. I mean
Dan Campbell, what four years ago, three or four years
ago when he got hired to be the head coach
of the Detroit Lions. He's sitting there talking about biting
people's ankles and being a Mosquito and all this other nonsense,
and people the national media are like, this.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Guy is just dumb. What is this guy?
Speaker 1 (07:42):
If Dak played for any other team other than the Cowboys,
they would have annoyed him, annoyed him to the Hall
of Fame exactly. Dak Prescott's never been the problem. It's
everybody else around Dak and the annoise around Dak. And yes,
Dak was a fourth round pick, but Tom Brady was
a sixth round pick. What they haven't had his culture
and leadership in Dallas, that is is predicated on winning,
(08:05):
and that's what they had had to do. I mean,
Andy Reid's a great play caller, but and a great
play designer, But is he that much better of a
play caller than other play than other coaches who are
I mean, compare Andy Reid to Shanahan because it's worked
because Pat Mahomes has made it work and and Donovan
mcnahb made it work before them. Andy Reid gets annoyed
(08:26):
as one of the best play callers, and I think
he is a great play caller, But I don't think
that there's a night and day difference between those guys
and somebody else. At some point it comes down to
players executing what plays are called, and Dak's got to
have somebody other than CD to throw it to. And
he said he he's really not had a running back
for a while. I mean, I didn't like ric O Daddle,
(08:49):
but I didn't like any of the other guys since
they had Murray, so they haven't really had a great
running back for a long time for a few years. Yeah,
Zeke was fine, but but Murray was before ze Right,
the Marco Murray to marcol Murray. Yeah, you on'tly liked
him because he was assuming. No, he was average player
at oh you, but at least he could do a
little bit. But this is a team that I think's
(09:10):
got a decent roster, and I think people are overlooking
the talent on the roster. Whether or not they can
put it together or not, that's for Colin or me
to be right or wrong on. But I think this
is a nine win Cowboy team and maybe ten, And
if they can get to ten and seven, I think
they have a chance for a wild card spot.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
I do too, I do too. It all depends on
it all depends on health. Obviously, everything depends on health.
And I know everybody right now. Is the sexy thing is,
you know, the young rookie with Jayden Daniels and the
Washington Commanders.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
But not that.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
I don't think that Jayden Daniels is going to be
a fantastic player for the.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Future, foreseeable future Washington.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
I mean, let's pump the brakes a little bit because
we were all on the same high horse.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Stroud.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Well, I don't think Croud had a bad year last year.
He just didn't have as good a year as his
rook had a average year last year. He had a
very average year last year. I think Jane Daniels his
Hall of Fame material if he keeps this up. I
think I think we thought that. I think the Commanders
are going to win thirteen games. Well, I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
And I'll go on record and say is the Philadelphia
Eagles will win seven games this year.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I think they'll win nine.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I think they will win seven because the Madden curse.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Okay, all right, the NBA playoffs have have been good basketball,
but that doesn't necessarily resonate to ratings. Adam Silver had
some discussion and some thoughts on that the other night.
I have some opinions on what he said those necks
from the ticket
