Speaker 1 (00:03):
You know, the one thing that has not been talked
about at the US Open. Not one peep of this
has been talked about, the fact that you have gotten
me into golf. No, that's we've already established that. Nobody
has said the ball goes too far. Nobody's complaining about
how far the pros hit it. Nobody is complaining about
the drivers are too hot, the ball is too hot.
(00:24):
The golf course is set up to where if you
don't put the ball in play, it doesn't matter where
you hit it. If you hit it close to the
green and you're in the fair way, you have a
pretty good chance of making at least a par of
nott a birdie.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Anything else, you're making a big number.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
And one peep has been talked about about the players
hit the ball too far. So for all of those
of you that want to dial back the driver and
dial back the ball and make it golf boring again,
then just watch the US Open and understand that when
you grow rough six inches the players, the players will
take care of themselves in Bryson just airmailed the green.
(00:58):
All right, let's well get into the golf discussion coming
up at the top of the hour. Let's talk about
the potential trade possibilities that keep out there for the Spurs.
And you and I were talking during the break that
Brian Wright is probably sitting back in his chair right
now saying, who's online? One Oh Phoenix is how about Milwaukee?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Are they calling today?
Speaker 1 (01:15):
And everybody knows the Spurs have as much draft capital,
if not more, than anybody else, And everybody knows that
they have the pieces of the puzzle that are very
tradable in order to get.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
A star on their team that they may or may
not want.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
And I'm sure they're in consultation with the entire basketball
op staff to determine exactly what it is that they
want to do, and they're going to get to People
are going to have to keep up in the ante
until the Spurs say, you know, we like that deal. Yeah,
And I think that's a great position to be in.
And it shows the work that they've done over the
(01:50):
last three or four years to obtain the draft capital
and to not just push the panting button to be
able to grow a team from scratch. You know, you
look at back when when David Robinson got here, and
David was out for two seasons with his military service,
and then he started. He came on a team and
he and Sean were rookies at the same time. But
(02:12):
they had Rod Strickland and eventually Mo Cheeks and then
eventually Rod Strickland as their point guard. They had Terry
Cummings who they got in a trade. They had a
pretty decent player in a second or third year in
Willie Anderson. They had a couple of guys off the bench.
I think David Wingate was on one of those teams.
It's not Cadillac Anderson, right, No, no, it's not. And
(02:35):
so they had a pretty good nucleus of a team
and they won fifty six games that first year that
David and Seawan were in the league. And when Tim
came into the league, they already had David established and
he would have another five or six seasons in the league.
And Sean, although he was getting ill at the time
with his kidney stuff, was still very effective and eventually
when he was able a couple years later to get
(02:56):
that taken care of and make the great comeback, he
was certainly, you know, part of the Memorial Day miracle
and so many other great things that the that I
think that was before the Kidney stuff. But still Sean
was a really good player for this team for a
long time. They had a very good guard in Avery Johnson.
They had added Mario Eli. So the team was built
(03:18):
not Tim added to the structure.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
You had Jaron Jackson senior. Yeah, you had the first
year in Jackson. You had Steve Kerr on some of
those teams.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Oh who was the uh.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Oh my god, former Trailblazer something something Tigue. Uh no,
it's Cursey, thank you. Yeah, Jerome Cursey was on that team.
So you had a really good nucleus of the team.
When Tim left, the cupboard got pretty bare in a hurry.
Now you got some good players like Murray, and then
you got Vissel and you had LaMarcus.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah, LaMarcus for a little bit, but they weren't a
team that was destined to win, you know, a championship
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Tanks number two.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
So this team is gradually just built piece after piece
after piece, and they have it panned twins. It's come
time to just grasping its straws to try to find
a try to find a piece of the puzzle with
a free agent player or via trade. And so if
they do nothing I'm fine with that. Just draft Dlan
Harper at number two. See if you can move the
(04:16):
fourteenth pick to maybe move up and get mallow Watch
or Can Nipple or a Queen, and let's go. Let's
go to battle with that roster, because I think they're
all good enough. If you think that Kevin Durant or
Giannis is the piece of the puzzle to get Wimby
in the championship right away, then make that trade and
give up whatever you have to give up, and still
know that you're not going to give up every pick
that you have. If you only have k Kad for
(04:39):
a year, or if you only have Giannis for two
or three in twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty and thirty one,
you've got still a slew of draft picks that you
can go after. So the rumor is is that Philadelphia
wants the second pick so they can get Dylan Harper,
or they want the Spurs to pick Dylan Harper and
they'll pick somebody else and then they'll swap and another
player gets added. Right now, the Six don't have anybody
(05:00):
on their roster that they're going to give up that
I want. They're not giving up MAXI. They're not giving
up Embiid. They're probably not giving up Paul George. All
of those players make too much money anyway, and they're
too valuable.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
To just do a second to the third pick.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
It would probably involve swapping picks and getting another draft
pick that they could use for draft capital if they
choose to go after you know, Durant or Giannis or
another free agent.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
The only potential player that I would even relish at
taking from from Philadelphia he would be on a player option,
would be Kelly Uber Junior.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
And how much does he make he would if he
opts in. It's eight point three million.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
That's pretty inexpensive from NBA standards. And I think you
could probably find some minutes for Kelly in the A
as a player coming off the bench. But I don't
think this person have to do something. But if they,
if they are offered an opportunity that makes them instant contenders,
then you got to do it. Because the best way
(05:58):
to keep Wemby around is to get him winning early.
And he'll begin his third season this next year, and
I don't think Wimby's going anywhere even when his free
agent free agent days come. I think he's going to
be a Spur for a long time. But I also
think that if he can win a championship right away
in his third season, that would solidify his desire to
stay here, and especially if the nucleus of the team
(06:20):
is with him for a good chunk of the next
several years as well.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well, yeah, you know, you talk about the nucleus of
the team, Uh, deeron Fox is going to be the
Iaron Fox sped up that clock of the I would
say maybe the commitment that the team, the organization has
to winby that says, hey, we told you from day
one it was going to be a little bit of
a process. There was going to be some struggles, but
(06:46):
the addition of dearon Fox and then winning the games
that they did, despite the fact of hey, deeron Fox,
uh only played a few games and then got shelved
and then Wimby got shelved because of the blood clock issue.
They have the potential to be a playoff contender next
year if you add one piece or two pieces, whether
(07:08):
it's through the draft or uh Steven Adams.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
You know, I think that audit that definitely puts them
at least five seeds, even.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
If they even if they have to trade, they even
if they move the fourteenth pick for a possible trade situation.
And I'm I don't know that much about Dylan Harper.
I've seen zero minutes of Rutgers basketball in the history
of Rutgers playing basketball, So I don't know how good
Dylan Harper is or isn't from my own eyes.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
I'm just going by what the scouts are.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
But if you're whoever you draft with the second pick,
and I always say this, you've got We mentioned this
in the last segment. I don't know that Dylan Harper's
got a starting job on the Spurs, but he better
have a rotational situation on the Spurs. Like Steph Castle,
I don't want to see him, and he's not going
to be on the G League train, and he shouldn't
have any DNPS coach's decisions unless he's hurt or on
load management. And I don't think a twenty two year
(07:59):
old kid or twenty year old ed should be on
load management to begin with. If you're gonna draft somebody
in with the second pick, I think they need to
be a major part of your rotation. And we've seen
that Oklahoma City can get far with a young team,
and there's no reason why the Spurs can't get that
far with a relatively young team as well, assuming that
Dylan Harper becomes part of that roster and they and
(08:21):
they trade Vessel for as part of another blockbuster free
agent acquisition or trade acquisition.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
The other team that I saw last night that got
thrown into the mix. The New Orleans Pelicans also have
been rumored to being contacting Brian Wright. All I can imagine,
and I'm sure at some point somebody's gonna make this
ai at or photoshop it is you have what is
it is? Don Corleon right from the GODFA card. Yeah,
(08:49):
it's just have him sitting there is like, you know,
Brian Wright's like, somebody just.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Make me enough or I can't to refuse. That's what
I'm picturing Brian Wright right.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Now, because to me, I'm like, the phone lines are open,
just keep offering. We'll let you know about June twenty
third if we want any of the deals.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Yeah, that whole notion of hey, we'll don't call us,
we'll call you.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
No, you're gonna call us and tell us what you
got and then we'll call you back if we like
the deal. Yeah, we'll let you like that deal in
Moneyball where Brad Pitts like get me that got San
francisc go on line.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, I need you, I need you to pay for
for sodas or whatever whatever the kicker is.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Yeah, all right, Charles Barkley called out the Knicks and
we'll update you on the US Open all coming up.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
It's the ticket
