Friday: “Elimination” Games

Multiple teams need to win to stay alive for the CFP.

I think you can say we have a couple of
elimination games when it comes to the college football playoff
rankings this weekend, and I say we.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Start there because I think the.

More likely outcome if you're going to choose between who's
more likely to get a win on Saturday, Texas or Oklahoma.
As crazy as it sounds, I think Texas traveling to
Georgia is probably the more likely winner amongst the road teams.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
As it takes the road dogs over the home dogs.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Well, I mean, Oklahoma's got to travel to Bryant Denny.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
But Oklahoma did at the very least. Oklahoma did beat
Alabama last year.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Last year it was what a three loss Alabama team
at the time.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Right exactly. That was pretty much the loss that said
Bama's not getting into the playoff.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yeah, I do think I will.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
If you have, if you were relying on ESPN and
YouTube TV to come to some sort of an agreement
before Saturday. Does not look like we're going to get that.
And it's unfortunate because the three best games of the
weekend are a triple header on ABC tomorrow throughout the
day eleven AM, notre Dame at pitt that's your game

day location two thirty kickoff Oklahoma at Alabama, and then
your night game Texas between the hedges at Georgia. So
you might need to scramble and text all of your
friends as I was doing two weeks ago, trying to
find someone's ESPN log in or their Spectrum cable log

in or some other way that you can find besides
stream East.

The streamy's still up and running, I haven't.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I feel like the government shut it down the same
way they did Silk Road and Pirate Bay. I think
they have gone the way of the DODO. But find
a way to get a ABC if you are still
on YouTube TV, because the greedy corporations are not going
to come to an agreement by tomorrow and you don't
want to miss the best games of the Saturday slate.

The mentioning South Carolina and A and M. That's an
eleven am kickoff. It is still an SEC opponent. Although
South Carolina massively underperforming this year, sure had the injury
to Leonora Seller's early still never have gotten been able
to get back on track. The only the only way

A and M loses this game is if they're already
looking ahead to Thanksgiving. In the matchup with Touches game,
it's and it's I hate to call it a trap
game because what it is is it's an SEC conference game,
and you can lose those games if you don't come
out fully focused, ready to play at eleven AM. I

think the early start time, combined with the South Carolina
team that had higher expectations when it came to conference
standings as compared to what they've shown us so far
through nine games. I don't think the Aggies are in
trouble at all there, but it is a game where
you let an SEC opponent hang around late in that

early kickoff window, you don't want to find yourself chasing
points in the fourth quarter of that game. Interesting matchup
in the American Conference amongst utsa's colleagues South Florida right now,
who is the highest ranked a group of six team.
They're taking on Navy at Annapolis at the Naval Academy,

both seven and two teams. Navy, coming off the hills
of getting their teeth kicked in in the snow by
Notre Dame last week, could maybe climb back into the
playoff race, or at least can at least stay in
the playoff race, an elimination game in a sense. For Navy,
Tech has a chance to respond in a big way

at home again this week, coming off the big win
over BYU where they dominated BYU in every facet of
the game. They've got the Golden Knights of UCF traveling
d Lubbock. Which is still insane that UCF at Texas
Tech is a big twelve game, But I digress. It
is what it is. It's guaranteed. We might actually have

bad weather in LA this weekend.

What'd you hear. I didn't hear about bad weather.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
We might have some rain during that USC Iowa game,
Okay in LA. So I think there is a chance
that Iowa might be able to play Iowa style football
and hang in that game with USC.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Again, that's a big ten game.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Iowa traveling to Los Angeles to take on USC pretty
unstable if you ask me. Ole Miss might have a
challenge night game at home going up against Florida. I've
heard the cliche thing to say is well, I mean,
Florida might have the most talent of any roster in
the SEC. That's crazy, it's wrong, it's wrong, it's crazy.

They have good defensive players, I'll.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Say, and that's why they might hang in this game
against ole Miss. Obviously ole Miss counting their playoff waiting
for their playoff invitation already, and then Byu the late
late game, we do get a nine o'clock window game
on ESPN, the Mighty horn Frogs traveling out to Utah.

We'll see how BYU bounces back after that first loss
of the season last week in Love It.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
You know what's crazy is that you mentioned it about
two minutes ago about like how the Texas Georgia oh
Ubama games could be sort of elimination games for Texas
and OU, and I would agree that if both those
teams lose, which is a chance they could, they would
essentially be out of the running for the playoffs because
of how stacked it is towards the back, especially because
if there's gonna be three teams that are outside the
SEC they're gonna make They're gonna make it with the

group of the group of six champion the at large bid,
and then you also have the other commerce champions that
get automatic bits as well. There's other underrated I would
say elimination games for contention, So let me give you one,
Baylor hosts number thirteen Utah.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
That's a good one.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Utah needs to win out and and to just play
for the Big twelve championship, because I think right now
they need to win out not only to get a
get talked about maybe getting the twelve spot in the playoff,
but the best way to get in is to very
much at least play for your conference championship.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
And if BYU drops a game, Utah has that tie
breaker because they won the heads up earlier.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Right Exactly another one that I would watch out for.
And this is like kind of like an under the
radar one, but like like long term, you don't think
about it as much. But Michigan Northwestern because if Michigan
is able to again beat Ohio States YEP advance to
the Big Ten Championship, they would essentially win the Big
Ten and get the automatic bit as well.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
So I love where you're going because that doomsday scenario
is exactly what I'm rooting for, where the committee has
basically ten two lost teams for six or seven.

Spots and they have to give them up to people.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
And they've got to figure out how they're going to
decide who gets in. So yeah, we are in the
best part of the college football season where now truly
every game on Saturday does mean something towards the playoff rankings.
