Speaker 1 (00:03):
Back in the winter, former Yankees baseball player Brett Gardner's
son Miller Gardner, was found dead in his hotel room
on a family vacation in Costa Rica, and after the
initial investigation and one that was supposed to be put
to bed, it was determined that Miller's room was next
to a maintenance room or some kind of a mechanical

(00:23):
room that had accidentally put too much carbon monoxide from
the machines through the ventilation into his room. Now, Miller
apparently was sleeping off some food poisoning that he had had,
and there was discussion that the food poisoning may have
caused or been attributed to the death. But after the autopsy,
apparently they determined the officials in Costa Rica that it

(00:46):
was it was ahixiation because of carbon monoxide. But the
authorities in Costa Rica still aren't satisfied because the hotel
denies that there was any hotel room that had any
high levels of that that there was a couple of
maintenance rooms, and that there was zero chance that could
have gotten into his room unless it was purposely put

(01:07):
in there. So they are looking into the further to
see if something was sabotaged or something was done. Brett
Gardner was one of the most beloved Yankees that I
think is played in the last thirty years for that team.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
He was.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Not a captain, but he acted like one on and
off the field for that team for a long time.
And from what I can remember, John Sterling and Susan
Waldman talking about him Salt of the Earth. I doubt
very seriously if this is a family thing that happened,
but it would to me. Obviously, I'd want to know
for sure if I was a parent, but I also
would want to make get closure on this as quickly

(01:47):
as I could. And so I don't know if the
Costa Rican officials are grasping in straws and trying to
search for something that is unexplainable, or if they have
some solid evidence that there's something other than what the
official the original report said. But it's really sad, I think,
because I'm sure the Gardner family is trying to move

(02:08):
on from this. I can't imagine losing a child and
they and I know people who have and it's and
it's devastating. Uh and so uh, it's it's something that
is still going to happen for a little bit longer
in Costa Rica.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, And I mean, who's to say that maybe the
the Gardner family didn't something looked odd to them as well,
So maybe they're just trying to possibly get any more
potential answers as well. But also if there was a
instance to where that was happening, you know, hey, they

(02:41):
have to figure out why or who possibly did that,
you know, so even possibly maybe prevent something from happening
in the future in that hotel, in that in that
room as well.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
All Right, coming up in the six o'clock hour, we're
gonna give you a big US Open update. Most of
the players are done. There's a few still out there
trying to finish up the round, and we're down to
three players under par and two or three at even par.
We've got another baseball story to get to. We'll talk
more about the NBA playoffs, and the question that we

(03:12):
will ask is would you want Russell Westbrook to come
to San Antonio. Russell Westbrook has opted out of his
player option with Denver and he is an unrestricted free agent.
That discussion and more coming up is we approach the
top of the hour on the tickets
