Speaker 2 (00:30):
Sans Andy today, as he travels to Charlotte for the
UTSA game tomorrow, I told him he should just start
the pregame show as soon as we are off the
air here because they're going to be starting bright and
early nine am tomorrow morning for your pregame right after
the golf show. Remind me again what we're being preempted for.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah, So, I'm sorry for all the listeners out there
that want to hear our great and always correct sports opinions.
But at six, all about the at six o'clock, we're
gonna be preempted by and Louisville, which you know, I
mean in most in most years, that would be a
game that you consider. You know, maybe game day is
gonna show it. Maybe it's gonna be a top twenty
five matchup. Clemson has gone the way of Penn State
(01:12):
this year.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, it's as much as I love cade klub Nick
Austin's own, I I do enjoy seeing Dabo Sweeney swarm
a little bit and have a bit of a bit
of a hot seed a.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Is alma mater.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Remember, Dabo still hasn't sent that resignation letter in he
told us he would resign and never coach again as
soon as a single college football player received a single
penny for playing, and still haven't gotten that resignation letter, So.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Killing him too.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
You know what's crazy is that Clemson, a year after
a year removed from making the Coachetball Playoff, they're in
danger of not even making the bowl game this year
because they have Louisville tonight in Louisville, which I think
will be a win. And then you go and then
you have back at home, you take on Furman, and
I'm not really sure Ifreman is even from that feels like,
you know, Clemson, you in that game South.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Carolina, I think South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I think it's an in state Well, I mean the
Furman game. I think Furman is in South Carolina. I
think that's a in state rivalry with the FCS team and.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
South Carolina is hard to pin down, you know, So
like Clemson really is in danger not making a bowl
game one year removed from a.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
College ball playoff of appearance.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, the South Carolina is actually going to pop up
on the run sheet again as we talk about college football,
because the Aggs have South Carolina on the slate this weekend.
You mentioned it might be a game where game Day
would be in the past game days of all the
games that we have to look forward to Saturday, College
(02:42):
game Day is at the NFL stadium that Pitt plays
in for the Notre Dame matchups. So showing the ACC
some love after all of the hell ESPN has been
taking for being in the SEC's back pocket where they
should be at OU versus Bama or Texas versus Georgia.
Instead we're getting Notre Dame and pit.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Game Day was always better when it when necessarily at
the game of the week.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Necessarily they always changed it up for one week.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Yes, you know Oregon Ohio State would be and most
weeks would be the game you want to go to.
But they also made a habit every year of going
to under underviewed programs.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
I remember one.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Year Notre Dame is not an underviewed program.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Literally like five years ago, they went to North They
went to North Dakota South Dakota. Okay, so like that's
a game you only really care about come January when
they were likely going to play each other in the championship.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yeah, that's a good bit.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Or they went to James Madison the first year James
Madison moved up to full Division one.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
They went to a Apps state one year, right.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I believe that again all of those I'm fully on
board for picking a random Notre Dame pit game just
to appease the ACC. I think they could have made
a better decision there. But we will get in. We're
going to do a truncated football happy hour during the
five o'clock hour. As I say, we're out at six,
so that means it's Friday. We'll close it out by
(04:04):
doing a little spelunking into the cave, and the final
segment today see what all we have going on in
San Antonio this weekend. And of course we are thirty
two days away from the Emirates NBA Cup Final. I
will keep reminding you every time I'm in this chair.
So we got to talk about the Spurs NBA Cup
(04:24):
matchup tonight, the rematch with the Warriors.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
We'll get to that here in the four o'clock hour.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Do a couple do a couple Spurs segments before we
close out the hour talking about the MLB awards that
were handed out last night. But as is customary anytime
I am in the big chair, I like to start
the show with what I watched last night, what we
all watched last night.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
And I think I mean it's hit the time, It's hit.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
The part of the calendar where, unless the Spurs are
playing on a Thursday night, pretty much everyone's luck into
Thursday night football. Despite a pretty subpar, to say the least,
matchup last night, Patriots played with their food though there
was there were at least moments laid into the third
(05:13):
quarter where you could, if you were a Jets fan,
close your eyes and envision some sort of scenario where
you win that game similar to the one last week.
Remember the Jets were on a two game winning streak
going into last night's game. Now you might also remember
there two and seven, so they broke their seven game
losing streak, had a winning streak going until last night.
(05:38):
Like I said, similar to last week. You could you know,
justin fields with under one hundred total yards last week,
but they pulled out the win. They were not able
to achieve that last night. And I think the obviously
the bigger takeaway the Jets are a mess.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
They held a fire cell at the deadline.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
There's nothing newsworthy about the result from a Jets pp active,
But I will say how impressive is Mike vrabel first
year back with the Patriots. Last two years they had
been under four wins each season, and now he has
them sitting nine and two and clear of the.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Buffalo Bills in the AFC East.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And the team really doesn't look all that much different
than it did last year. Just from a personnel standpoint,
I understand they got guys like Milton Williams, Drake May
year two blah blah blah, Sefon Diggs obviously having a
career revival.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
May year three. Yeah, oh sorry, it just feels like
he's been around.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
It does Yeah, I guess, yeah, you're you're right, My bad,
your three Drake Drake May. But it largely a lot
of it has been the same personnel, And I think
part of it is that, yes, a lot of people say, well,
they've had an easy schedule.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
They don't know, I stay corrected. Your credit's year two,
Drake May.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Okay, then yeah year yeah, you have me second guests
with myself. Don't do that. I think.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I think what it is also is like it's it's
not just the schedule. Yes, Like you can look at
their schedule and say, like, oh, they play everybody.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Their one big win was the Bills.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
I would still consider that a signature win, even though
the Bills are having a bit of a down year.
But you still have to realize that this is a
Patriots team that last year was not good offensive or defensively.
They were really young, inexperience, and right now all those
pieces are kind of meshed together, and let's just be real.
Travon Henderson He's not gonna win offensive Rookie of the Year,
but he is definitely a difference maker on that team.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
He's gonna win quite a few people out there listening.
He's gonna win them some fantasy leagues as he comes
on late in the season, trick. Yeah, the guys that
held him on the roster despite getting limited snaps early
in the year. That's paying off now. Speaking from experience,
because my co host on the podcast, Cap is riding
the Traveon Henderson's train right now as he tries to
(07:50):
make a push for a playoff spot, I should say
those of y'all that don't follow along, if you do
enjoy what you hear today or any day I'm filling
in for Andy, you can always download the podcast Sports
Cave with Biggest Puma, Come hang out with us over
there else. The other takeaway thinking about that game last
night as we were watching it as we did the podcast,
(08:14):
the fact that here's your AFC top three teams. Okay,
all of these teams are two loss teams so far.
Patriots now lead nine and two, Colts are second at
eight and two, and the Broncos are third eight and two.
Who had that ten games eleven weeks into the season.
(08:36):
Who had that as your top three in the AFC
twelve years ago?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
I did?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah, it was Brady Mannon and Andrew Luck twelve years ago.
I did not this year because, like the Broncos are
winning in similar fashion. The UC Eagles where they're not
really winning convincingly, but they're holding on with a really
good defense and having enough offensive score enough points.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
The Colts obviously might.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Be the biggest surprise in the NFL, especially just because
of Dale Jones. I think people expected a jump from
Drake May. I don't think anyone expected a jump from
Dane Jones. And like I said, the Patriots, we we
just talked about it again. I'm not going to take
away easy wins on their schedule. You play who you play,
but they're also winning in dominating fashion. And Drake May,
for his credit, does look marginally better than he did
(09:16):
last year.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, and we should also point out, as we were
talking on Wednesday, with the push amongst certain media members
to try to eliminate the Group of six team from
the college football playoffs, let's just look at the rest
of the AFC, because right now a team that's five
and four and might end up under five hundred, the
(09:39):
Pittsburgh Steelers are leading the AFC North, which means they
are guaranteed a playoff spot. So fine Baum comparing the
Group of six team to a triple A team, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
He made three big time stupid errors in that one.
And these aren't like just biased opinions. He just made
three things. He said three things that were factually incorrect.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Well, I mean that's if you listen, if you watch
ESPN for a twenty four hour cycle. Unfortunately, I fear
that's the majority of what you get content wise from
multiple of their personalities.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I don't have to have YouTube TV, so right now, hey,
you're free. Yeah, unless I want to watch a game.
That's what all I need ESPN for anymore, because I
don't like a lot of other shows they have.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Now, so hold that thought.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
We're going to talk about that in the five o'clock
hour because all of the three major college football games
this weekend, it's a triple header on ABC.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Nice and so we're going to get into a little.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Bit of the YouTube TV owned by Google, ESPN owned
by Disney, their corporate slap fight, and how we're just
the kids stuck in the middle while parents are fighting.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
It's never a good position to be in.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I will also add for my fellow hockey fans out there,
the Stars put a touchdown on the board last night
in Montreal. They beat the Montreal Canadians, who are leading
their Division. The Eastern Conference Stars won that game seven
to nothing on the road with their backup goalie Casey
de Smith in net given Otter a day off. It's
(11:12):
a Stars team that continues to get points, but it
hadn't been pretty. It had been a lot of comebacks,
a lot of overtime shootout wins. It was nice to
see them put a decisive victory on the board. I
also gonna add here, as we think about the football
weekend that we have ahead of us, the glorious fact
(11:36):
that the Cowboys once again are not playing on Sunday,
so we can enjoy an entire seven hours of commercial
free or minor commercials during red zone now, but seven
hours of straight football in the afternoons going into the
Sunday night game. I've got a couple tips that I've
developed over the last few weeks to make the football
(11:59):
weekend you experience significantly better. It's an enhancement, one might say.
So here's the here's the trick. Friday night or Saturday morning,
depending on what time you get up. I'm one that
sets my alarm on Saturdays for eleven am.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
For that first kickoff.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
You need an alarm for eleven am.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Oh, buddy. Yeah, yes, I told. How many times have
I told you? You'll show on Sunday morning? Is too
early for me.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
The thing is, though, is like you know, I'm already
up early, especially on Saturdays, because I'm not just doing UTSA.
I'm also the golf show producer with Andy, so I'm
already up by at least seven.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Burn the midnight oil grinding, and I will be I
will be praying for you as I'm waiting for my
alarm to go off at eleven.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Because I'm leading from the golf show right into UTSA football.
So I'll be done tomorrow some time between four and
five more likely.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
See, it's a good it's a good, healthy day behind
the board. So the trick is Friday night or Saturday morning,
eat Mexican food, get some text mechs, plenty of options.
As you're paying, add to your bill an order of
chips and salsa chips and Queso chips and walk something
some kind of chips and dip to go, So then
(13:13):
you take it with you. You've got chips and dip
all day Saturday for the rest of football of you.
Because you're not you shouldn't be leaving your couch your
obligations should be in order. You've got nothing. It's it's
the pinnacle of football season. These games are elimination games.
You need to be locked in on your couch, but
(13:33):
you're gonna need some nourishment. So have some chips and
dip options available. Hell, get get every chip and dip
they have on the menu, because it will still be
good come Saturday night as you're watching Texas and Georgia
play between the hedges.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I would just make your own caso. Do you not
like to cook?
Speaker 2 (13:52):
This is this is advice for those that might not
do that might not have the time's then come Sunday,
as we get ready. Of course, after you leave the
church service and you're heading home to watch the noon
kickoff window, stop by your local movie theater.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Get a large order of popcorn.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Make sure you ask for it to go, because if
you ask for it to go, they'll give you that
second scoop. They'll give you that refill because every large
order comes with a refill, and they'll put it in
a giant ziplock bag. And I'm telling you from experience,
it's still good come Monday night. So you get the
popcorn Sunday afternoon it'll still be good for Monday Night
football when you get home from work to watch the
(14:36):
Cowboys come Monday night.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
The combo of having chips and dip.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
All day Saturday from your favorite Takoia and having movie
theater popcorn with extra butter all day Sunday for NFL
this weekend to Monday for the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
I'm telling you you will not regret your life choices.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Okay, before we go to break, I have to say
that last. I don't know about the chips and dip
to go. I feel like you can just bube whatever.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
It's never as good as your favorite place.
Speaker 5 (15:04):
The popcorn is genius, I'm telling you. Here's why. Here's why.
Because I can.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Get equal or better Honestly, chips and dip at AGB
I can make the same stuff.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Now, you're not going to the right tacarias.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
Can't get better popcorn than at a movie theater.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
That is fact that we can't agree on.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
And on that note, hell go get movie theater popcorn tonight.
Because it's a late Spurs game eight thirty tip off,
another one of these crucial NBA Cup matchups. Let's get
into the rematch with the Warriors next here on the
Andy Everett Show.
