Just hit that big red microphone icon at Ticket seven
sixty dot com on the iheartapp Enjoy this podcast of
the Andie Every Show. Welcome to the program. Thank you
so much for being with us. Sorry we didn't make
it yesterday. Either the computer hal from Airplane Too or
Skynet or both decided to take over our control of
(00:45):
the radio station and so we were unable to go
local and live yesterday. So we are back today and
hopefully that bug has been erased forever, so we'll get
into all the other stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yes, you're Mic Cork, We're on. We're on Cool have audio.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Disciminators Shane Carter today and also Michael Bartlett, the producer
of the show, whose blood pressure is far less today
than it was yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Let me just put it this way, people. Andy's one
of the nicest guys that I know. He was about
ready to ring. Mind, I was going brooks Kepka yesterday. God, Yes,
did you hear the quote from brooks Kepk.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
No, I didn't hear it.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
They asked him about missing the cut at the Masters
and the PGA, and he said, yeah, from the Saturday
of the Friday after round two of the Masters until
about a week ago, I was not.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
A very good person to be around. Yeah, I can see.
So that was me for a.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Couple hours yesterday. Yeah, pretty much. You know, Brooks last
eight weeks. Mine lasted two hours. There we go, Yeah,
all right, we're all good.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Though.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
We have JJ Spawn still atop the leader board at
the US Open through thirteen holes, he's still four under
on the You don't know JJ Spawn he won the
Vallero Texas Open a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I thought that was the Oh no, that's right, that's
the right neck guy's name.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
And then we have Tristan Lawrence in the mix at
minus three. By the way, Sam Burns had a great
day to day at sixty five. That's a remarkable round
on this golf course that they're playing. But Tristan Lawrence,
if you've never heard of him, joined the club, neither
of I. He is ranked two hundred and ninth in
the world on the as far as the World Ranking start,
I think he's ninetieth on the World Ranking Tours. He's
(02:22):
two hundred and fifth on the FedEx Cup, and he's
got no wins on the PGA Tour, no top tens
on the PGA Tour. And he's from South Africa. And
at one point today he was at six hunder. He's
now gone back to reality a little bit and he
is at minus three. We got Thomas d three at
minus two and Victor Hobwood at minus one. But Oakbond
(02:45):
is showing its teeth a little bit here on this
Friday afternoon, and the cut line when the morning way
finished was at plus four and now it's creeping towards
plus seven. So there's some other guys that may have
a chance, including Michaelroy Andy Shane, although I think McElroy
still needs to get at least one birdy coming in.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
He needs to he needs to eight.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
He's eight over the projected because right now, yeah, but
they're thinking the algorithms say it's probably going to go
to seven, So he probably needs to be one for sure,
and two would get him comfortably into the cut line.
But he's not playing very good golf right now. And
I mentioned this the other day. The one thing it's
surprising to me that Roy won a congressional back in
twenty eleven because of all the majors that I would
(03:27):
think that would be the hardest for Roy to win,
would not have been the Masters, it would have been
the US Open. And I have this discussion quite often
when we have the Golf Show on Saturdays, and we'll
bring this up again tomorrow. Most amateur players should not
hit a fade unless they're really strong and really fast,
and most professional golfers preferred it a left to right shot.
(03:50):
Most professional golfers are a good percent each of him,
and especially US Open winners hit left to right shots.
Left or right shots tend to land and stay where
they land. Right the left shots tend to hit and
bounce a lot further than they should. The reason amateurs
should not play a fade unless they are really strong
and really young and really good is that they can't
(04:12):
make solid contact and still hit a fade. They hit
a swipe and so the ball doesn't go anywhere, and
so a lot of instructors will teach amateurs to draw
the golf ball because that's the way you're going to
get solid contact. Rory, on the other hand, hits a
draw in a big draw, and when he hits fairways
at the US Open, they usually don't stay in the fairway,
whereas the other majors, those shots are okay. But the
(04:35):
US Opens a little bit of a different animal, by
the way, tomorrow on the Golf Show, Joe Caruso is
going to join me. That'll be part of our topics
as to why I don't think Rory plays US Opens well,
even though he played at Pinehurst last year. Well, except
for a couple of miss putts. We'll get into that
tomorrow on the Golf Show. But nonetheless, the guys that
are hitting that are up amongst the leaders are hitting
(04:58):
really high, good solid contact fades, and they're in pretty
good contention right now.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
How about our guys, Andy, How are our guys our picks?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I think Scotty is the best of the bunch, don't
I didn't see where Mari Kawa finished. I'll need to
look at that leaderboard here in a little bit to
see because I think Marikawa is is my best choice.
Markawa's plus four, the Scotty's plus three, plus four. Yeah,
Scotty shot one over today. And my guess is is
that three under is going to be leading this because
I don't know that J. J. Spaond's going to be
(05:28):
able to get in the house in the last six
holes wellout at least one more bogie. Uh. And I
think before Sunday's over with over Par is going to
win this tournament. I said somewhere between plus two and
plus four when a tournament began, and as Oakmont, you know,
shows its teeth a little bit more, I think those
those numbers are certainly in play.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah, you had what you had, Morikawa?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
You had I had Justin Thomas Trunk slam for him,
he's like fourteen over, I think.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Okay, And who else did you have? Mind me? Jesin Rose, right,
Justin Justin Rose.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, he's way out of the out of the contention. Yeah,
I think Marikaw is my only choice. Chance you had
Scheffler Oberg was in the mix for a while. I
think he's at five or six. Justin Rose is twelve
over by the way. Yeah, see ye at the Open
Championship in a couple weeks.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Where is Justin Toomas? I can't find Justin Thomas. Justin
may have quit by now. I don't know he was.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
He was twelve or ten over when I saw saw
an update earlier in the day.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Well, like you said, mine were Scottie, Shane Lawie and then,
oh my god, who was my other pick?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Shane? You remember who my other pick was? Top of
my head? Did you have, Oberg? Oh, yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, So yeah, Oberg, I think it's going to make
the cut. We'll get more US Open discussion coming up
in a little bit. We've got Game four tonight of
the NBA Finals, and I think this is a must
win for Oklahoma City. I thought that they had a
chance to win Game three on Wednesday night and they
just did not execute in the final minutes of the game,
and I think Shaye was tired. The Pacers did a
(07:01):
good job of saying Shay is not going to beat us,
somebody else is. And I think somebody else is going
to have to step up for Oklahoma City. I'm a
big fan of Caseon Wallace, mainly because his brother Keaton
played at UTSA and I'm glad to see the Wallace
family do good things because they're really good people. But
I think Cason Wallace was playing too many minutes. They
didn't have enough offense on the floor, And Doug Gottlie
(07:22):
mentioned that today. A couple others on his show and
on Collins Show today talked about that as well, that
Caseon's a good defender, his offense is still in progress,
and perhaps they need to have somebody out there that
can put the ball in the basket other than Shay,
Gilgas Alexander. But we do have a game four tonight
and if the Thunder can bounce back, and the Thunder
(07:44):
are favored in this game despite being the road team
and down two one, I think the Thunder can get
back in this series and have a chance to win
both home games and maybe win it in seven.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
I'm just happy that the series it's has been fantastic
basketball to watch.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
It really has been, and it's not getting credit for
that because the drama isn't there with the celebrity status.
Halliburton and Shay aren't those aren't popular social media people. Yeah,
they don't live extravagant lives, even though they're very, very wealthy.
Uh and I think that's part of the reason why
we have low ratings. It's two small markets and it's
(08:23):
teams that don't have a lot of drama.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah, but I don't even look at it from that standpoint.
It's is it good basketball to watch? Yes, it's fantastic
to watch. Even in the Game three, if you want
to call it a quote unquote blowout, it was still
a good game.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Here's the problem though, with sports, and it comes to ratings.
What does it take to get the casual fan or
the non fan to watch the finals.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Like in golf.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
I watched golf in the seventies, eighties, and nineties and
I was entertained. But the person that doesn't really like
golf was entertained until Tiger showed up. And now that
Tiger's not there, some of those have waned in, some
of them have stayed. If you're a basketball junkie, you
appreciate the basketball that's being played. But if you're the
basketball junkie's wife, or the basketball junkie's husband, or the
(09:14):
basketball junkie's best friend that casually watches sports, then you're
probably watching Lebron more than you're watching Shay, just because
you know who Lebron is Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Because when you're sitting there watching, you're like, well, who
is that person?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Who is this? Now?
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Why do I need? What do they do for me
to either root for them or root against them. I
don't think Halliburton or Shae are players that are polarizing.
You're not going to get angry if Shay is successful,
and you're going to be happy for him if he is,
regardless of whether you're a thunderfan or not. But when
it comes to Lebron and even it goes back to
Kobe and Michael, you either loved him or hated him,
(09:49):
and you need love and hate in order to create
the drama that creates higher ratings.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
It's the same notion, a little bit of the Taylor
Swift effect, you know, exactly for the Kansas City Chiefs,
there were so many Taylor Swift fans that, hey, now
they know who Travis Kelsey is. But because you know,
save some for instance, some of your daughters, they're like,
they know who Travis Kelsey is, and now they may
know who Patrick Mahomes is.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
But in the music genre, there are those who love
Taylor and there are those that don't like her. Yeah,
and she's polarizing, but she saws at every arena she's in.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
But she still pay attention to her whether you like
her or not.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
By the way she has the Taylor Swift effect has spread.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Now they're gonna buy a hockey team? Is that the
apparently that's Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
They were at the fantastic game last night, even though
the Dang Connor McDavid's pulled off overtime. They were at
the Florida Panthers game last night, and well, here's.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
What hockey did for me.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
I happened to turn on hockey because there was nothing
else on, and I heard Kenny Albert say they pulled
the goalie, and so I watched the last two minutes
and the Panthers scored with nineteen seconds to go. They
went intermission, and I forgot to turn it back over. Yeah,
so I didn't see the finish.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
They were Flora was up three to nothing, and then
I think it was three to one by the end
of the third or by the end of the first period.
The Dang Nick Jesus and the Oilers managed to tie
it up three to three and then took the lead,
and with about twenty six seconds left, the Panthers pulled
their goalie for an empty net and managed to score
(11:20):
with about twenty six seconds left to send it into overtime.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
And then the dang Mick Jesus. So that's why he's good,
all right.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
The Spurs and Sixers are now apparently allegedly talking about
swapping picks, that the Sixers really want Dylan Harper and
the Spurs aren't sure whether they want him or not.
Here's to me is the simple question about Dylan Harper.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
The simple answer to.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
That, the question has to be asked, are the Spurs
gonna get Kevin Durant and are the Spurs gonna get
Yannis one of those two players where Devin Vessel would
have to be moved in order to make the money
match or part of the deal to make the money match.
Right now, the Spurs have a court, a three team
(12:02):
back court basically with Deer and Fox yep and Devin
Vassel and Steph Castle yep, and those three players are
going to play at least thirty minutes a game, So
that's ninety minutes out of ninety six at those two positions.
And I think they can rotate those guys around where
one of the two of those three are always on
the court, and sometimes they will all three be on
(12:24):
the court, and so you're really only going to need
a guard to play another six minutes to get because
there's forty eight minutes per position when you look at
minutes per game, and so they only need So they're
going to need Devin Vessel are they don't need to
They don't need Dylan Harper if they're going to keep
(12:44):
Devin Vessel And the only way you're going to get
Giannis or Durant is to include Devin Vassell in a
trade unless you do something really crazy.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
So the rumor that went around earlier in the.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Week was that the Spurs could keep the second pick
in the aft and there's other pieces that they would
want plus players to make that trade with Phoenix. So
if if Vsel stays, then yes, I would trade.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
I would trade for Uh.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I would use Vessel as if a Cell stays, I
would I would trade the second pick because you need
bigs and.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
You need shooters. You don't need the guard.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
But if Vassell's gonna leave, now there's a spot for
Dylan Harper to play in the backcourt.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
I have a feeling that they're probably everything is just
gonna stand Pat and I'm.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Fine with that. I really, I'm really fine with doing.
If you look at Oklahoma City, other than they traded
for Shay five years ago, everything else is basically draft
picks and development of players. Yeah, they traded for Hartenstein,
but he's a role player's free agent was free agent,
so they signed him to a free agent deal.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Caruso was the trade. Yeah, Crusoe is the So Crusoe
is the trade.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
So it's it's basically a homegrown team and I'm fine
with that, and I and I don't think that's out
out of the question that the Spurs will do because
we're seeing in the end to be successful with it,
or seeing Oklahoma City be successful with it, and even
to a certain extent, Denver has been successful with it.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
I think the.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Notion what would be is the Andy Everett philosophy of
if you're drafted, you know, position ABC or D this
high up in Andy's world.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Within ten games, you need to be a legit starter.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
And I agree with you to a certain extent, especially
with the number, if the potential number two overall pick
with it being Dylan Harper, I do agree with you
that he would need to be.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
A starter, or at least in his first year playing
thirty minutes a game. Yeah, I don't. I'm not drafting
Dylan Harper to develop him. If he's If he's worthy
of the number two pick, he should already be developed.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
He may need to learn the NBA and they'll have
his come to his AHA moment in the NBA
