Speaker 1 (00:04):
The Raiders and the Cowboys getting set for Monday night
football in about an hour and twenty minutes or so.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Glad that you are with us this afternoon.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
We've been talking a lot about the college football landscape,
the NBA gambling scandal that's going on. Day Day Hunter,
a basketball player at New Orleans that has admitted that
he shaved some points for prop bets with his shooting stuff,
basically said, I didn't I missed a few shots here
and there. I made a few shots here and there,

(00:34):
and I made sure I stayed under the number. So
that's his story, and he's sticking to it a little bit.
And so that's kind of where we're at with that.
And I think Adam Silver's got a big thing to
worry about coming up in the next few weeks as
they uncover potentially more people involved in the prop betting stuff.
Let's get to Cowboys and Raiders as we talk about

(00:56):
the NFL games this week.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
And to me, the Cowboys are certainly I don't think
worthy of saying that they're a playoff team, but they're
certainly not out of the picture. If they get onto
a three or four game winning streak. The NFL is
a very volatile thing, and teams that you think are
good this week may not be good the next week.
But this is a game that if the Cowboys are

(01:20):
going to be in playoff contention at some point, they
need to figure out a way to win. The Raiders
are not a playoff team, and I don't even think
if they got on a two or three game winning
streak they're going to be a playoff team. There's three
teams in front of them in their division that are
better than they are, so to me, this is a
game that Dak's got to come out strong offensively.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'm not sure how much the defense can stop them.
From the Raiders' perspective, can Genty have a big day?
I think Gino Smith is a very hot and cold quarterback.
When he's good, he's very good. When he's bad, he's
very bad. There's usually not a lot of middle ground,
but Gino, it's either I win the game going out
in style, or I stink it up and throw three picks.

(02:00):
So that's kind of the way I look at this game.
The Cowboys are playing with a lot of emotion in
this game because of the DeMarcus nieland the situation from
last last week when he uh was died a self
inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase and going through
the things with lots of demons. They haven't played since,

(02:21):
and now they've got to go out there and perform
a game in Las Vegas against a Raider team that
I think will be good in the future.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
I think Pete Carroll is going to.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Make them, uh make them good. But we'll see what
happens tonight. I think this is one of the for
the Cowboys that they got to get.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I'm excited because remember we get we get the debut
of Ford new Cowboys. Well new was obviously like a subjective,
but four new players add to this defense. Remember they
made the trade for quent for Quinn Williams, who's going
to play demons tackle next to Osa. They also made
the trade for Logan Wilson, who I just saw report
is going to switch in and out with Kenneth Murray
at Mike linebacker. Thank god, you know how much I've

(02:59):
been trying to get killed Murry off the field. And
also you got two guys coming off injury. Demarvin Overstone
he's back. He'll probably play in rotation and then Savonne Revel,
the cornerback out of East Carolina. He's gonna make his
debut tonight. It looks like the Cowboys, if nothing else,
the reinforcement should help in this game. What sucks though
for them which actually might help, just because like they
forget they kind of had, Like it's kind of the

(03:19):
little jump start to the head between now and next
Thursday when they play the Chiefs. Some thanks given, they're
gonna play three games. They got the Raiders tonight, they
got the Eagles on Sunday, and then obviously they got
the Chiefs. Some thanks given. So that they have three
games that attend within a ten day span. Now that's
nothing usual. That's nothing unusual if you're a Cowboy or
a Cowboys fan, that's something that come along with it.
But a team that's been decimated by injuries, who's finally

(03:41):
getting some replica, some reinforce.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Do they have Sunday? They have Sunday, they eat, they
have the Eagles, They're at home, the home they got
to win tonight.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I don't think they're beating the Eagles, and I don't
think they're beating the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I feel like I again like, I feel like for
some reason, the Cowboys match up with the Eagles every
single year. I don't know why it is, and they
always seem to split.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
With the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
The Eagles win in Fit, the Cowboys win in Dallas.
And this year's Chiefs team, and if you saw the
games yesterday against Denver, this Chiefs team is very much vulnerable.
I think you're right. I think against this Raiders team
because remember they traded away with the number one receiver
at the deadline, Jacobe Myers. He's gone, and so now
their biggest weapons are going to be Brock Bauers, who's
a huge influence on the receiving game and the running game.
The receivers are really young, so it's really hard to

(04:20):
gauge them. Their offensive line is beat up. Ashton GenZ
has one game this year over seventy five yards into
the Cowboys credit. I think what they've done well is
they've built the depth on the defensive line. I don't
know how much of a factor gens will be just
on the ground. I think they're gonna want to use
him because the Cowboys defense overall is vulnerable. I think
it's more vulnerable in the back end. Good news. It

(04:40):
looks like that to earlier today they returned, but they
brought back both their safety they're starting safeties Mileie Cookers
off ir Donovan Wilson is gonna be back in the lineup,
so they have their starting safeties back. If nothing else,
they're getting healthier quote unquote at the right time, and
against an opponent that they won, they should win in
two because they're about to have a three be a
three game, three game stand in a ten game in

(05:03):
a ten day space. This is a game not only
that they need to win, but if they have any
hope of making the playoffs, which I actually think they
do still have a shot at least in a wild
card because of the way the rest of the schedule
sets up as opposed to other teams ahead of them.
You're right, this is this is a game they have
to win.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I think I said Marshawn Neland's first name. Wrong. It
is Marshan, marsh whatever whatever.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
I think you said, DeMarcus, but you're in the middle.
You're a middle talking.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
I don't want to Yeah, it was it's Marshawan, so
uh but uh, I think it's frustrating. It's for cowboy
fans because you know, and I don't think that Jerry
is doing things with the idea of not trying to win.
I think in his mind he thinks these are things
that are going to win. I still think the Green
Bay trade with Micah Parsons, While I didn't like it

(05:47):
at the beginning, I think it's going to turn out
to be a better pick because you're still gonna have
to pay Dak for a couple more years or have
a bunch of dead cap space, so you might as
well roll with that for a while. I still think
you to get better at running back. I think you
got to get better on defense, and you got to
show up your offensive line, and you would like to
be able to do it with players that are, for

(06:09):
the lack of a better word, as Colin says, aren't
getting paid much. It's kind of kind of interesting when
we say somebody making five million dollars a year is
a getting paid much, but in NFL money, that's not much.
And so if you can get good young offensive linemen,
good young running backs, and good young defensive players while
you're paying CD and while you're paying Dak, and you're

(06:30):
potentially gonna.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Have to pay Georgia Pickens.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Those are games that kind of puts you in a
situation where I think they're giving up Mike is not
that big a deal. Now, there's a lot of stats
about Micah Parsons. He doesn't play well against the run,
or doesn't do this, or he doesn't do that. I
think Mike is an elite to edge rushing player. But
if I cannot have to pay him forty five million

(06:55):
dollars and I can get three or four players out
of the draft, and with the trades and all that
that I'm paying the equivalent of that, to me, that's
a win win. I didn't think the Cowboys were a
playoff team this year anyway, and if they were, they
were going to be a seventh seed. But they could
be a playoff team more in the future because as
long as they play pay Pickens, all these guys are
coming back next year.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I think. I don't think there's they're missing much.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
George Pickens is a free agent after this year, and
so is Jabonte Williams, who's had a really good jump
start in this week, so I would.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Still I'm fine with Chavonte Williams, although I.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Already know how I keep both of them off the cheap.
I already know how to do.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
That, but but I would rather draft a running back
in the second or third round that can challenge them
and Blue as well, because I don't think you can
have a shortage of running backs sure. I mean, what
he marks is showing that you can have good games
in Houston if the offensive line blocks for you, and
if you can and if you can keep people off
of the offensive line thinking you're going to pass occasionally.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
To me, having CJ.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Stroud back, if he comes back this week or next
is huge for the Texans in their playoff push. But
I wonder if the Cowboys are going to have draft
picks to be able to replace the loss of.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Mike in other areas.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
First off, I don't know if they're going to play
s CJ's because of the games on Thursday. It's kind
of a quick turnaround. But that's a different talent for
a different day. But for this game, what I like,
especially just because I already mentioned that the Raiders offensive
line is beat up. Colton Miller, They're starting tackle as
has been deal with injury all year. Jackson powers Johnson,
their starting center. He's out for the year, so that
tells me Quinn and Williams should be able to eat

(08:28):
in this game alone. I think what I've been impressed
with because you always have to go into a season
where you don't have high expectations, you want to find
who you think you can build on in the future.
I think they've hit on a right guard. Tyler Booker
has been a great addition to this team. I know
you weren't a big fan of like drafting offensive line.
I think you wanted them to get a running back
or corn. It didn't matter. He's been a good player.

(08:48):
Donovan Azaraku their second round defensive end out of Boston College.
You could argue he's been their best edge rusher. Him
and Genevian Clowney, who they signed five games into the season,
have been their two best guys out on the I
think that's been a huge get for them. What you what,
I think you can work within this And by the way,
I kind of tease it a little bit, the way
you keep Jamontai Williams and and and George Pickens is

(09:10):
you franchise tag Javontai Williams, only pay him ten million
dollars for that year, and then you signed George Piggins
to a big two or three year deal so we
can go in freegency earlier. That way opens up your
money sooner. But that's a different that's a different topic,
a different day.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
All Right. One other NFL story.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Jamar Chase suspended for next week's game, and he'll get
fined the equivalent of about five hundred thousand with the
miss game check and the miss roster spot.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Bonus copy in Jalen Carter.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Uh yeah, well they they That's what Jalen Carter got
was the game he set out. So they're not going
to go more than that right now. They'll probably increased
he's down the road if they can.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
It's like the fourth player that's spat on somebody this year. Yeah,
it's been multiple.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
By the way, is Chevelle. I see cheven Ravel's coming.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Back his debuts tonight.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
I didn't get to see him play last year against
UTSA because before they can't two games before. Yeah, but
I was told you it's good thing because you're not
throwing in his direction. So let's see how good he
is when he's on the field night. But anyway, Jamar
Chase told reporters yesterday, I didn't open my mouth to him, Well,
you obviously did to trash talk him, and there's video

(10:12):
evidence that said that you did. So see you you're
gonna you're gonna miss next week's game. I don't know,
Jamar Chase, but if you're gonna be my franchise wide receiver,
you got to have a.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Little bit more self control than that.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
I don't want to put up with that, and neither
should anybody else.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
There's things that.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
You can do to trash talk people, and you can
get under people's skin if you want, but there's no
room for that, and that's a pretty low situation for
him to do that, and he should be punished accordingly
as he is.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
I mean, it makes sense that he would. He would
he would he would have defaulted. I mean, he would
have combat it because there's still technically in the playoff
push because the AFC North right now is vulnerable. The
Ravens won yesterday on again like just coming back at
the end Pittsburgh, you don't really know whe're going to
give it them, and Joe Burrow supposed he's gonna come
back probably in the next two weeks or something like that.
So you want to stay as in the hunt as
you as you as much as you possibly can. And

(11:05):
the Bengals without Joe Burrow obviously are dead in the water.
But without Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase, they're dead to rights.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
All right. The College Football Playoff took a little bit of.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
A twist and turn this weekend with Texas losing, with
Alabama losing, and we've got the new CFP pole coming
out tomorrow night, I believe, So we'll get to all
of that coming up, and what would a potential playoff
look like? And there's a team from Texas that no
one thought about that is going to potentially be that
Group of six champion. We'll discuss all that coming up

(11:34):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
