Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hope you enjoyed your sports weekend. And of course Game
seven always good.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Game seven. We had a great game last night.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Indiana actually had the halftime lead before the Thunder took
over with their amazing defense in the third and fourth quarters,
got the lead up to twenty two, saw it shrink
to ten, but they ended up winning the championship and
the first time ever. Now I will caution people because
I saw some hints to this the other day. There

(00:32):
are some people out there that say, well, this is
the first time since the franchise was in in Seattle.
This franchise was never in Seattle. This is a new team,
very much like the Baltimore Ravens. They did not take
any of the Browns records with them to Baltimore, and
they're still the Browns were basically in hiatus for several years.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
And when Seattle gets.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Another team back, they'll become the Sonics again, and the
Sonics will have a twenty plus year eight with their records.
Because the way that it was described when the Thunder
made the move is that this is a new franchise.
So I saw last night where somebody said first win
for the franchise since the team and the organization was

(01:17):
in Seattle. According to the people at the Thunder, this
team was never in Seattle. This team has always been
in Oklahoma City. And the Sonics will get theirs when
they get back into the deal. All right, So here's
the first thing that ivery comes out of everybody's mind.
What is the future of the Thunder. We didn't even
let them celebrate for ten minutes before we started talking about, well,

(01:38):
what about next year? What are you going to do
for me? You have won now, so you got to
validate it by winning again. We've had seven NBA champions
in the last seven years. Toronto won in twenty nineteen, Boston,
the Lakers won in twenty twenty, doesn't count Millwell, yeah,
it was the Bubble Game, Milwaukee twenty one, Golden Take

(02:00):
twenty two, Denver twenty three, Boston twenty four, and the
Thunder in twenty five. You've had the Toronto's, the Milwaukee's,
and the Boston's. From the East. You've had, if you
count the Lakers, which were not but we'll put them
in there anyway, Lakers, Warriors, Nuggets, and the Thunder from

(02:20):
the West. This is now a balanced league, especially in
the West. But there's no guarantee next year that with
Halliburton's injury, that Indiana's going to get back here. There's
a lot of issues in Boston that they're trying to fix,
and now they've got to determine what that roster's going
to look like with the salaries that they've been taking on.

(02:42):
Right now, I would say the New York Knicks and
the Cleveland Cavaliers have the best chance of representing the
West or the East in the finals next year, which
could potentially give us another non repeat champion, and maybe
not any of the guys. I see a scenario with
a Thunder don't make it and Denver doesn't make it.
Right now, the second best odds to get back to

(03:03):
the championship is Houston.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
But that's what we do.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Every time that somebody wins, we start talking about, well,
let's repeat dynasty in the making. I don't think this
Oklahoma City team is a dynasty. I think they can
win more championships. I just don't know that they're gonna
be in consecutive years.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, first off, let's back up to your potentials of
Cleveland and the Knicks. I would at least give a
little bit of leeway to the to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
But Andy, the New York next don't even have a
head coach.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
How can we how.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Can we put?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
I haven't broken the news yet, but I'm gonna go
coach the team and I'm gonna say give it to
Brunson and let's go.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
You're gonna trade Karl Anthony Townstown as soon as I can.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
You should. I think you're for a cup of coffee
in a donut.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I think you're forgetting the Orlando Magic are going to
be a very good team next year.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
That they are, They're gonna be there.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
There is a there is a scenario that they could
be in the mix too.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, because last year they they they the record doesn't
indicate how good that team was because they did have
a lot of injuries throughout the season to a lot
of their big they're you know, leading guys obviously at
the beginning, if I remember correctly, Paula ban Carroll, the
former number one pin a couple of years ago.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
They've stacked draft picks, They've made some slight trades here
and there. They've got a good a good nucleus. Yeah,
they Miami could be better too. I don't know that
they will be, but they could be.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I don't, I really don't.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I think Miami is unfortunately in a purgatory hell to
where they can't really add anything.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
They have to just beg.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
They are not good enough to add any other pieces,
and they're not bad.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Enough, so they don't have They don't have players whose
salaries will let them go get superstars that are making
a big, big unless they get rid of Tyler Hero,
which is one of their best players, or Bam, which
is one of their best players. But if they can
get lucky in the draft, uh And I think they've
got maybe the top three co Chin, Spolstra. I think
that they have a great opportunity to get better. I

(05:04):
don't think they're listen. I don't think anybody in the
East is going to matter next year because Boston's going
to have to retool. Cleveland I may been a one
hit wonder. Indiana's got their best player Hurt, Milwaukee's got
its second best player, Hurt. The Nets aren't very good,
the Knicks are up and down, and they need to coach.
There's a lot of turmoil in the East. But just
as there's a lot of turmoil in the East, everybody

(05:26):
in the West is going to be good again next
year too. You've got the Rockets now with Durant and
his thirty points a game, are gonna matter. I think
you've got You've got Dallas, who's going to get Cooper
flag and while Kyrie may be an All Star break returnee,
but they have a lot of good players and a
great nucleus there. Denver had a good run this year,

(05:48):
but they've got to figure out how they're going to
fix their roster and get healthier. They had too many
guys that were injured. I hate the Clippers, but they're
still the Clippers. I think the Lakers are going to
be for a little bit further down in that group,
and we don't know. I don't think the Spurs with
this roster can get to fifty five wins, but I
think they can get in the high forties with the
right pick in the draft. So everybody in the West

(06:10):
is coming for Oklahoma City, and it's gonna be Game
seven every time you're playing Oklahoma City. That's what That's
the storm they're gonna have to weather just to get
back to be the number one and number two seed
in the West.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Well, with Dallas obviously unless Nico Harrison has some type
of you know, brain fart or is gonna get like
you mentioned, it's gonna get Cooper flagged. But you're gonna
be without Kyrie Irvy Irving at least until you know,
after the All Star break. You you hope and pray
because we saw it happened within the first half when
Anthony Davis.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Anthony Davis is now going.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
To be a year older, you have to hope that
he doesn't get injured in any time during the season.
That is going to be a lot of pressure put
on Cooper flag and we'll see early on if if
he can or if he can't, you know, handle that pressure.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I think you could make a case going into next
season that every team in the West except for Portland
and New Orleans and Utah. Although Utah will improve with
what their organization and the drafting that they're going to
do and all that, I think those three teams are
not playoff teams right now going into next year.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I would say Phoenix as well. Yeah, I would to I.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Get tol Phoenix because they've got way too many guards
and nobody else, everybody else has a chance to be
in that top ten so that's fourteen. That's four of
the fifteen teams. The other eleven teams could easily be
penciled in as a top ten team. And now with
the injuries that Boston, Milwaukee, and Indiana have, it opens

(07:44):
the door for a lot of other teams in the
East to assume control there. I still think Boston's got
a retool its roster and get off the big salaries.
I think that New York, if they can find the
right coach, will be a decent team. I think Brunson
and the Villanova group is is pretty good. I don't
think the Nets are very good, and I don't care

(08:04):
what they do to get better. I don't see them
them getting that that much better. I think Philadelphia is
they're They're They're have all the potential to be the
best team in the East. But it's all up to
whether Joel Mbi cares about playing and sometimes playing a
little bit banged up because he's either damaged goods or
he's had a year off to since the Olympics to

(08:26):
really get healthy. That you give Mbi and Maxie and
and Paul George and the third pick in the draft,
and that team can't help.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
But just my accident win games.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
So this idea of dynasty, I think it's it's fun
to talk about, and I think everybody wants it, and
if you're a Thunder fan, you certainly want it. But
I don't think it's a it's a sure thing. I
think there's way too many good teams. The balance of
power is exactly what the lottery and the draft is
has said that it should. It's maybe it's given a
few teams like Washington, who doesn't care, a chance to

(08:59):
always be Washington and always be in the lottery. But
there's so many good teams and so many good players,
and you're not gonna be able to stash a third
player on your roster and play in max money. That's
why when you talk about Oklahoma City's long term future,
you gotta pay Shay first, you gotta pay j Deb second,
and Home's gonna be third, third, fiddle or fourth, and

(09:20):
you're gonna have to pay them significantly less, like sixty
seventy percent less than you're paying your top heavy guys,
or you're gonna be like Boston was or like Milwaukee
is this year with Dame and Jannis both making one
hundred million dollars if I'm Milwaukee, I'm trying to trade
Donnis as badly as I can, because you're not a
championship material team.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
You're gonna spend one hundred million.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Dollars on one half of that on one guy that,
if he plays, is going to be playoff time at best,
and I would eat the Dame contract. I would trade
Jonnis to whoever will take him and get that ridiculous
payroll off, and I'd get draft picks and start over.
But because by the time that you're able to be

(10:03):
good again, hopefully those two guys are off your payroll.
The money situation is getting crazy, but there's going to
be There's going to be sixty players that get paid
in the league and everybody else is going to get
significantly less.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Yeah, the Milwaukee Bucks depending on which of these players
decide to re up on their player options. Right now,
the only players that matter on that team at least
to me, that are at least guaranteed Joannis Dame and
Kyle Kuzma.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
How much as Kuzma make Kuzma is at twenty two
point four, say.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
He's a bargain right now, And I'm not a big
Kuzma fan. I've always thought he was vastly overrated. He
may have a good game every now and then, but
if you're going to be if you're gonna get paid
more than that or even that, you've got to be
more consistent. I think the entire Milwaukee Bucks roster should
be unloaded if somebody will take them all.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
I play with the CBA.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Team for a year and and and kind of get
everything else, uh in in a little bit better situation.
I just think there's way too many players on that
team that are spares.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
I do too, And and that's where, you know, the
scenario could potentially come in to where if Joannis, if
the organization goes to Jannis and says, look, we're only
gonna have seven players on this team. The rest of
these guys are gonna be you know, G league guys,
or we're gonna have to go get Andy's favorite player
from the retirement home and Kyle Lowry for like one pay.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
He was my favorite player when he was younger. He's
for he's still his favorite player. It's not there's a
shrin I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Go the shrine in this room in the corner of Kyle.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Eddie Murphy and coming
to America.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Kyle Lowry's one hundred and thirty seven years old. He
can't play anymore. Yeah, you would still pay him if
he if he wanted to, but.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Not for any team I want to win. Yeah, I
would have paid him three years ago, but that was
three years ago and maybe even two not that.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Not now. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
So brook Lowe, as you know, is on the last
year of his contract. So do they does he want
to come back? Do they want him to come back?
Bobby Portis has a player option, Pat Connaton has a
player option, Kevin porter.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
They're just the the time past them.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
They got their championship in twenty one and it's over
and and that's why Giannis may want to stay there.
They may want to keep you on us, but to me,
it's it's a team that is is still in disarray
because of Dame's injury. If Dame was healthy, then you
could put a couple of free agents around them and
give it, give it a shot. But Dame's not playing

(12:34):
until at least at least March next year, if even then,
and very much like Halliburton, they may not play at
all next year. So this is that. So that's why
I think this, this talk of dynasty, it's always great,
and it's always every time somebody wins.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
We talked about it.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
We were talking about Denver being a team of destiny
and a dynasty team. We talked about Boston last year,
but now we know about their contracts that you Golden
State was certainly a dynasty twenty thirteen to twenty nineteen
or twenty eighteen, and then they won again in twenty
twenty two, but they basically kept the nucleus of the
team together. In the salary cap allowed for three people

(13:14):
to get paid. Now the salary cap doesn't allow for
three people to get paid because it's way too expensive
to pay three people. I mean, the salary CAP's going
to go up to like one hundred and sixty million,
and if you're paying three guys fifty, then you've spent
one hundred and fifty of one hundred and sixty. Now
you're automatically going to be in luxury tax hell. So
I think that there's going to be another champion next year.

(13:35):
I don't know who it's going to be, but that's
why I said it was so important. Once you get here,
you better win it, because you may not ever get
a chance to get back. All Right, there was a
championship of the College World Series, and because it was
Coastal Carolina and LSU, I wouldn't not necessarily talk about
it if it weren't for the controversy that took place

(13:55):
in the game with ejections from the coaches. I'll tell
you what happened and why. I think sometimes umpires and
officials get way too much a part of the game.
And we'll discuss that next. It's the Andy Everage Show
on the ticket
