Speaker 1 (00:03):
It is the Monday before the NFL Draft, which takes
place on Thursday night. And let's talk about the Cowboys
at twelve. I do not think that Ashton genty will
be there at twelve. I think the Raiders are going
to take him at six. Somebody's going to take him
before he gets to the Cowboys at twelve. The running
back position is all of a sudden now becomes something
(00:24):
that's important. Again, shocking, and it should have been a
long time ago, because as I documented throughout the entire
football season last year, the team that led the game
in rushing won eighty five percent of the time. It's
not rocket science. Especially in a league like the NFL
where you're trying to control possessions and limit plays. You
want to run about fifty five to sixty five snaps
(00:46):
a game. Max College usually wants to run more because
you want you have more depth, and even though the
depth may not be that good the NFL, you got
fifty three guys, forty five are active and probably only
twenty two. You were twenty three on offense and maybe
even less than that, and you just don't have enough
depth to risk people getting injured. So the Cowboys draft
(01:08):
at twelve, and there's a plethora of offensive linemen that
are there, and there's going to be running backs that
are there. I do think Omary and Hampton, the running
back from North Carolina that is considered the number two
pick in this draft, is going to be there with
that pick. So here's the question again for both of you.
Would you take omaryon Hampton at twelve and go offensive
(01:29):
line second round? Or if you like Calvin Banks, or
if there's somebody else that is a really good offensive
lineman that is say that you think is the next
Eric Williams, that you think is the next Zach Martin,
somebody that can open holes for your running back, would
you go offensive line. Now here's what I think Jerry
(01:51):
will do. I think Jerry is going to be about
sales first and about everything else second. And I think
Jerry will take o'mary and Hampton if he's available at twelve.
But Steven may want Kelvin Banks or one of the
offensive linemen, especially if a couple of a couple of
them drop a little bit further down in the draft.
There are some good running backs later in the in
(02:12):
the draft. One in particular is someone that I saw
and that's Dylan Sampson at Tennessee. So I believe he
was in the game two years ago when UTSA played
in Knoxville, and not that Utsa's defense stopped really anybody
that day until the game was in the end of
the second half. That team was just so fast. It
was it was a boys against men very early on
(02:33):
in that game. But Dylan Sampson could be a good
running back. There's a couple of others in that in
that situation, I think in the third round you could
get Saveon Williams or Isaiah Bond at wide receiver. I
think later on in the draft you might be able
to get the Syracuse tight end. But to me, I
would not be disappointed if the whoever I can't have
(02:55):
Tyler Goiden. Tyler Gouiden's a project. Tyler Gouiden's learning to
play offensive line, and I think he'll be eventually good
when he gets the right coaching and the right toutelage.
Hopefully that happens in Dallas. But if you're gonna go
offensive line, he's got to start day one, hopefully at
left tackle or right guard, and he has to be
the next stud ten to twelve year offensive lineman. Hopefully
(03:18):
does he stays healthy. If not, then I go on
Marion Hampton. But I think the if there's a lineman
there that's a generational lineman, it's not the sexy pick.
It's not the pick that's gonna sell a lot of jerseys.
You're gonna get a lot of booze on Draft night
from the Cowboys. But I if the Cowboys brass determines
(03:39):
that this guy's the next star star offensive lineman, I'm
okay with that. So you want Hampton or offensive lineman?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Hmm, okay, So a couple of a couple of things
to unravel in that. Here's my biggest concern with the Cowboys. Obviously,
in the off season so far, they've somewhat at least
address the running back situation. They signed Miles Sanders from Carolina,
you know, because they have behind He was behind Tiba Hubbard.
(04:08):
He's twenty seven years old. Shane let me know, reminded
me that he has been injury prone, so that's a concern.
Then they went out and also signed or either signed
or traded for I can't remember, Javonte Williams for the
from the Denver Broncos. Again had injury concerns. What I'm
worried about there is that they look at it and say, well,
(04:31):
we already have two running backs that we went and
signed in the off season. If this is such a
deeper running back class, why don't we just wait until
the fourth round, fifth round, somewhere around their third round,
and we'll go get Cam Scattabo or whoever you know,
one of these other guys down the road. That's my
biggest concern. And then they decide to do a well,
(04:51):
we'll take Kelvin Banks catch I'm not opposed to.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
I'm not opposed to.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
If you can take a talent of say in an
Omrian hand In or a Ted McMillan, the wide receiver
from Arizona, or a Matthew Golden from from Texas wide
receiver which you are beyond, you want them to get
a legit wide.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Second wide receiver to protect Ceedee Lamb.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
It wouldn't surprise me if the Cowboys do the unsexy
thing and if he is there, decide to say we'll
take him, or will take Kelvin Banks.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
If Calvin Banks is highly Calvin Banks has dropped in
some drafts, but if he's if he's a top twenty
pick in your mind with your scouts, I'm okay with that,
or whoever, whoever the next offensive lineman is. I think
Golden could be there. But how much better is Golden
than Bond?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I would say, I would say he he is. I
would put Matthew Golden at like a minus and then
Isaiah Bond maybe like a B minus.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Is that B minus, B plus college or pro? I
would say pro right now, because I guess if it's
only a little bit, if it's like ninety to eighty
two on the great scale, If if Matthew Golden's in
ninety and and Isaiah Bond's in eighty eighty two, I'm
waiting for Isaiah Bond because I can get him cheaper
in the second or third round and plug him into
(06:18):
that other side of the field. From Cede Lamb got
to I've got to address if the Cowboys don't draft
a running back in this draft that can make the
team and at least play and share share snaps with
Miles Sanders. I don't care about anybody else, but Miles
Sanders is the right now the running back one until
they I want them to draft running back one A
(06:39):
or one B. However, you want to look at it.
I don't care if it's the first round. I don't
care if it is second round, but I think it's
first round, and offensive linemen have to go one and two.
That's the twelfth and I guess forty fourth pick in
the drafts, and then in the third pick in the
third round, then I'll go address the wide receiver spot.
If you think Matthew Golden is as good as CD Lamb,
(07:00):
that's fine, but understand you've just paid CD and you're
five years away from having to pay Matthew Golden if
he turns out to be the next CD Lamb. Now
at that point you can move off of CEEDE Lamb
and start back over again. I don't think you want
to put yourself in the Jamar Chase T. Higgins thing
with two people at the same position that demand a
lot of money, because that's going to take money away
(07:21):
from your defense. But those are the three things that
I want to see the Cowboys address in the first
three or four rounds. They don't have a fourth round
pick right now, so in the in the first three picks,
it better be And I don't care what the order
is running back, offensive line, and wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well, at least according to ESPN. Matthew Golden obviously is
rated as the number two overall wide receiver in the class.
Isaiah Bond is the tenth rated. I mean, what's the
one thing that we always talk about with football players,
and we talked with Dot Garrett about you can't teach speed.
Matthew Golden is Lightning McQueen style. He is speed. Yeah,
(07:59):
thats what he is. And he's dependable.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
All right, So we'll see. We'll talk more draft as
the week goes along. But those are some things to
think about when Thursday night, and of course Friday rolls
around as well. All Right, Cooper Flag is going to
the NBA and everybody wants him. Where he would fit
best and where it would be a total disaster. We'll
talk about that next. It's the Andy Everage Show on
