I've often said that if we could tape what goes
on in the radio booth between the breaks at a
UTSA football game, and then find a platform to put
it on. But understand that everybody has there's there's a
get a jail free card for every statement that is made. Uh,
it would be it would be great entertainment.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I'm telling you, I think you just found a way
to raise some ni L money.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Sell subscription. Well, a lot of these schools now have
the radio. What is that that was not good? Again?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
The Grimlins are still are still here, the hamsters on
the wheel, but the Grimlins are still here. The a
lot of these people now in order. And I haven't
been asked to do this yet, but I know it's coming.
Because it's a revenue stream. They put the booth cam
in the booth and so you see the call as
it's being made.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
But you don't see the field.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
They can't show video of the game because that's copywritten
or the property of ESPN or whatever network's doing it.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
But the radio broadcast can have a U two stream.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Of what's going on in the booth, so you can
see what the announcers are doing, you know. But sometimes
we have hand signals for each other. That shouldn't go
on the air, if you know what I mean. So
it's I gotta I've gotta have a We're gonna have
to have a separate engineer if we ever do that,
because that definitely needs to be to be blacked out
during the breaks.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, you need.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
There's way too. It takes way more than a dut
button for that, do you like.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Uh, It's like whenever Eli through the double bird on
the first Manning cast, It's like, I thought you all
just blur that out.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Yeah no, no, no, that's going straight for it. All right,
we do have a show to get to today.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
It is.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yesterday it was cold and today it's warm, So we're
figuring that out as we go as well.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I did not see the Spurs last night because UTSA
was playing basketball. It was an ugly game early and
it turned out to be a pretty good one after that.
But anyway, I have some thoughts on Spurs Warriors, and
it goes along with two things that I've said about
the Spurs over the last few weeks as we start
the season. And we'll get to this more in depth

in the next segment. But number one, I don't think
Victor women Yama can guard Steph Curry thirty feet for
the basket, and Steph doesn't necessarily need to penetrate. He
can just do whatever he does to get his shot off.
So Steph is the type of player that maybe we
need to go back to what we talked about before.

(02:26):
Defense on the ball and defense when Wimby's not on
the floor is something where the Spurs need improvement. Great
team defensively when Wimby's on the floor, usually not so
great when he's off the floor.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
And then the other part of.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
That too, is is that you got you can't let
Steph Curry's score forty six and you can't let the
Warriors go to the free throw line thirty six times
to your twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, that was that was the main problem.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I mean, Curry had forty six, but he was fifteen
of sixteen at the free throw line, didn't really shoot
and didn't have a good shooting game. I think he
only made like five out of fifteen, five out of
sixteen on threes.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
It was a.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Lot of tiki tac fouls that were putting Golden State
at the line because the other one you can't allow
Golden state to shoot thirty six free throws, but also
very rarely are they going to make thirty two of
them like they did last night as a team. Meanwhile,
on the other side of it, you're only shooting sixteen

for the game, but Spurs did shoot at a high
clip themselves.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Well, I do have one question to ask today, because
they play again tomorrow night. What golf course is Steph
playing today? Oh that's a really good question. Now, I'm
sure he's playing anonymously there, so no one's going to
tell us.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
But could he be playing a golf course?

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Could he play thirty six today and kind of wear
himself out a little bit?

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Okay? I like where that.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I like Michael Jordan played forty five before a playoff game,
So I mean, what can what can Steph do?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And they also drank on the front nine every time too,
just to take.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
The edge off a little bit. Where would he play?
Would he drive all the way out here to play TPC?
Would he go up to Loch in Terra.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Well, my guess is is that And I don't know
where they're staying, but if they were staying at either
one of those places, that would be where he's playing.
But I don't know where they stay, and I don't
know if they stay downtown or if they stay out
of town or up in one of the highot or
wherever where the golf courses are. But I'm sure he
has all the golf courses on speed dial. And I'm

told that Steve Kerran courages bringing your golf clubs on
the road.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I mean it's a good way to you know, I.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Think Steve likes to golf too. I hear, That's what
I was about to say. Now, did you ever hear
the Devon Brown Pop story?

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Oh, educate me.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
No.

So Devon's in the league for the first, like his
second year in the league, and they've got like a
five game road trip and two days off in San
Francisco and two days off in Phoenix or as some places,
or maybe it was Miami Orlando, but good golf weather.
And Devon shows up at the airport with his golf clubs,
and Pop's like, we're going.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
To play basketball, not golf, which is.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Amazing because Steve Kerr played for Pop and and uh
and here here's the deal. Pop wouldn't have cared if
Devon would have gotten ship sticks his clubs or you
know had a mail to the golf course he wanted
to play at, and just left the hotel and went
to play. Nobody would have ever known, but he didn't
want the idea. Hey, we're on a we're a business
trip here. It's not a golf vacation. But I'm told

Steve Kerr says, you play golf. We got we got
fifteen those suitcases and fifteen sets of golf clubs.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
It's a team bonding exercise. I do no offense to Devin.
I do wonder if it would have been the same
message if say Tony had brought the clubs.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Or ormanu ormanu David I think was the only other
one that actually played golf. I don't know if mine
who ever played golfer. I know Bruce Bowen did, but
I don't think he ever brought clubs on the road either.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Now, the rest of those dudes were probably just playing
Tiger Woods golf, since they were all gamers, all playing
against each other on the plane.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Yeah, well, listen, if you have if you're given an
off day, what else are you gonna do? Sit in
the hotel room and do nothing. Go make yourself more competitive.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Well, I was about to say I will report back
tomorrow when I'm filling in for you, and let the
listeners know if I see any of them ountain about
downtown later to not.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
When the when the Warriors used to come to town
all the time, back in the late nineties to about
twenty ten or twelve, they brought a pretty good entourage
with them and some of the radio TV guys. We
would all go golf, and they would I would invite them,
or they would invite me. However you look at it,
but there was one of me and seven of them,
so we would we'd go play golf.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
But we got other things to do than that.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
All right, we got Well, we're gonna visit with Matt's
wired here coming up in a little bit. He's the
voice of the Charlotte forty nine Ers. The road winners
play Charlotte. This is a game that I think both
teams think they can win, and Charlotte hasn't won a
game against an FPS team. UTSA has struggled on the road.
UTSA is hoping that they can get to play a
little bit better. So all visit with Matt at the

bottom of the hour. I also was listening to Doug
Gottlieb today talk about one of his favorite rivalries in
the NFL with Saints Falcons when both teams were good.
I'm not sure I remember both teams being good at
the same time, but apparently that's a big rivalry. But
I've got an Atlanta Falcons story. I think I've shared
this with you in the past, but we're going to
rehash that coming up in a little bit. We'll get

into the best NFL matchups of the weekend.

We've got some baseball discussion to get to because tonight
we're going to find out whether cal Raley or Aaron
Judge wins the MVP. Now I am an apologist for
Aaron Judge. I think he's one of the best players
in the league, but I think he's one of the
best people in the league. I've heard him do interview
and we don't know what these guys are in real life,
but to me, he seems amazingly genuine and not that

cal Rawley isn't. But I think we see more exposure
from Aaron Judge. But I think the MVP goes to
cal Rawley this year because he had sixty home runs
and he broke Mickey Metal's switch hitting home run record.
Plus he's a catcher and he caught about one hundred
and fifty games this year too, so that to me
gets him a little bit of an edge over Judge

and the Barners win a little bit further in the playoffs,
even though this is supposed to be a regular season award.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, I think I think all of the reasons you
just laid out are probably gonna be why cal Rawley
wins it. But at the same time, the next Aaron
Judge had a nine point seven ward this sea. The
next closest guy in all of baseball was number eight,
and it wasn't Sho heeo Tani or cal Rawley, So
I'm not exactly sure.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
See war is what's that stand wins above replacement?

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Okay, so basically, if if he was out of the lineup,
the Yankees would have lost nine point seven more lost
nine point seven games.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
That's basically the way to look at it.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
It's it's taking the average performer at their position and
basing someone an individual's numbers off of what the average
MLB player would have done. And you're talking like this
year in the league, so Otani was actually second because
the other guy didn't really didn't qualify. You had judge
Otawny Paul Skeins who just won the cy Young last night,

and then then you had cayl Rawley.

But cal Rawley was closer to Bobby.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Witt Junior this year in turn that he was he
was to judge again. I've been telling my co host
on the podcast for months, this is cal Rawley's award
because of all the reasons you just laid out the
sentimental side.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Well, that reminds me of the Tiger Woods stat when
Tiger Woods was number one in the world and Phil
Micholson was number two. Phil was closer to the number
one thousand golfer in the world than.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
He was to Tiger and this is similar. Yeah, that's insane.
Every time you say that, it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
UTSA soccer team is headed to Lebbock. They're going to
play Texas Tech tomorrow night in the first round of
the NCAA tournament. That's where a chat with Derrek Pittman,
their coach, will do that at five point thirty. We've
got some big college football games this weekend, especially Texas
Georgia and OU Alabama. Playoff implications for sure on the
line with those two games.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
We'll be getting to all of that. Now.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
I want to talk a little bit in a little
bit to about two other things. One is Aj Brown,
the wide receiver from the Eagles that always seems to
be disgruntled, and I'm wondering is he a prima donna,
is he just a diva athlete, or is he genuinely
say gimme the ballack can help us play better offense.
And I think it may be a little bit of both.

But I thought Colin Coward brought up a really good
line today when he said he's got a Super Bowl,
he's got money, he's been a All Pro and a
Pro Bowler. Now he just wants numbers. He wants catches,
he wants targets. And I don't know that Jalen Hurts
is the best quarterback in the world to target one
specific wide receiver.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
He's gonna thought to whoever's.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Open, and Aj Brown's going to get a lot of
attention with probably a safety help on almost every play.
So we'll get into that a little bit. And then
there's this story up in Baylor. Mack Rhodes, the AD
at Baylor, has gone on a leave of absence now
they're saying this is the situation, but everybody's kind of
pointed to an incident that took place in a game
in September when he went up to one of the

players right before kickoff and like put his hands on
his shoulder pads and said, why are you blank wearing
that yellow shirt? And apparently this player had a yellow
shirt on that was covering a brace on his shoulder. Well,
yellow is one of the colors of Baylor, and I
guess they were wearing green and a little bit of
yellow that day. But I'm kind of curious as to

who would care. And he said, well, he put hands
on him. It's not like he grabbed him by the
face mask and wrestled them to the ground. He just
reached over and grabbed his shoulder pads and said, hey,
what are you wearing that yellow shirt for? And I
don't know if he'd been in a mean spirited way,
but to me, when you look at what was swept
under the rug at Baylor about seven, eight years, ten
years ago and let fester into a place where a

coach has basically been exiled from the sport for the
rest of his life. And I still think that the
president at the time, and the AD had some responsibility
that they never either admitted to or or held accountablefore
And now you're concerned about the ad because he walked
over to player and asked why he was wearing a shirt.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
That don't make sense to me.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, I think it feels like the part of the
story that we've gotten so far is just that only
part of the story, because it also it wasn't just
the player. Now we're hearing he also had a bit
of a physical altercation with one of the assistant coaches
that was trying to talk the player down after he
had confronted the player. It feels like this might not

have been the only isolated incident. It just might be
the one we know about so far.

All Right, we had a milestone yesterday. I wasn't here
to talk about it yesterday, but yesterday in Philadelphia they
printed the last or are minted the last penny. So
when all the pennies run out, which will be never
because I think there's way too many of them, but
we're getting rid of the penny. If you hadn't heard,
what else should we get rid of? I've got some
new things that I'd like for them. To never get

off the ground, let alone a penny. We'll discuss that
