Speaker 1 (00:03):
The US Open gets underway tomorrow at Oakmont, so I
have all the details on the show tomorrow. The overwhelming
favorite in this is Scotty Scheffler, but who may also
be in the works to win this golf tournament. It's
time for our golf picks. Major one went to me
at the Masters with Rory's win. Major two went to
(00:26):
you with Scotty's win at the PGA. Yeah, and since
you won the last major, you get the first pick.
And I can't imagine that you're not gonna take Scotty Scheffler.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yes, I will take one Scotty Scheffler, mister Venmo himself.
I will not be requesting money from Scotty because he
doesn't know who you are. Noah, that too, and I
wouldn't do Scotty like that.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
All right, I have a list of several players on
this list that I'm going to go after McElroy. I
am not picking Roy with my first pick. He is
on the board if you want him later. I am
going to start with Justin Thomas. I just wanted he
wanted to hear Hilton had a few weeks ago. Uh,
(01:12):
he's playing you gonna hit it far enough? And he
usually hits it straight. I'll go with JT.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
He is in the pairing with min and Brooks Koepka.
And are these Eastern standard times?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
I'm sure they probably are, unless it's unless your Dell's
race SAT.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
What time are they ting off?
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Three pm?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
I would assume that's eastern yn.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Eastern standard times, So, uh, you know what, not a
bad pick?
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Eastern daylight time? Actually, what did I say? Standard standard
light saving time?
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Whatever? East coast time?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
So who's your second pick?
Speaker 2 (01:44):
My second pick is going to be and I was
trying to give him to you. He's been playing well recently,
irishman Shane Lai.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
All right, you can have him well since you left
him on the board and he is, he's been playing
better of late.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I'll go with Colin Marikawa.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
If only he could putt, maybe Colin, that's Colin right, yeah, yeah,
he can't putt. Telling you he needs to watch that
happy Gilmore and he'll learn how to put real quick.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
It's all in the hips, man, It's all.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
In the hips and apparently so all right, Well, as
much as I want to take my fellow cowboys brethren,
Bryson de Shambo, you have said that there has not
been a repeat winner, repeat champion.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I think the last one was eighty eight eighty nine
one or eighty nine ninety went No.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Eighty eight eighty nine one to Curtis Strange one twice.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
So I will not be taking Bryson to Shambo.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, I thought a Cowboys an SMU guy. That's a
big difference.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I am going to take one.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Just to tea, just to tick you off.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I really want to take John Rahm. I don't think
he's gonna win, man. You know what, give me Dustin Johnson.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Wow, he's he's gonna shoot eighty tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
He's in the field. He's in the field, but barely.
He's with John Rob Jordan's beef.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I think DJ will shoot the highest score of those
three players tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
No, I'm gonna go with Phil on that one. No,
I mean of that group. Oh that that DJ, Speith
and Rob group. Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I think DJ will have a DJ may not break
eighty tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
You know what, I'm changing my pick. You better, I'm
changing my pick. Give me my guy, Ludwig.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Oh, man, you stole my pick. That was what I
was gonna take next. I should have made you stay
with DJ.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
You know what, I'll give you Louvig, give me Tommy
Fleetwood in'stad. I'll go with Tom.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
No, you can have lud Digg because I've got another
pick that I'm gonna pick in here. Kegan Bradley. Nope,
he had he could have won it. The Masters. About
Justin Rhodes.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
You know what, he has been playing well as well.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
So I got two Justin's Thomas and rose In Marikawa.
You've got Scotty Lowry and Ludwig Ludwig Ludwig.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Saying his name is Ludwig. All right, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
The Pride of Texas Tech. You got a Texas tech guy.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Fine, you know what.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Every now and then, I don't mind rooting for Shane's
tech attacks. You know when he was a cowboy, I
rooted for Zach Thomas. You know, Thomas a good tech,
a tech guy.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Now we talk about the US Open being truly an
open competition, and basically what that means. There's one hundred
and fifty six golfers in the field, and eighty five
of them are exempt based on past performances in majors,
past performances in US Opens, PGA Tour, world ranking status.
(04:43):
There's a lot of ways that you can be exempt
from having to qualify, meaning you're automatically into the tournament.
You just have to fill out the entry for him,
and you're in.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Your name is one Eldrick Tiger.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yes, he's got a lifetime exemption.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Actually I don't know if he does or not, but
he won he won the Masters in twenty nineteen, so
you would have a five year deal. So I'm sure
he's exempt in some other category, maybe that one where
if you've only won eighty two times.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
You get in.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Him and Sam Stey would be the only ones that
still would qualify with that, and Sam unfortunately is no
longer with us, but anyway, so everybody else has to qualify.
You have to have I think a zero point five
handicap index, so you have to be a really good player,
and you fill out the form usually in the winter time,
and sometime in March or April, they tell you where
you're qualifying spot is for your.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Your sectional.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
You're the first thing, your regional thing, like in San Antonio,
I think it was at Cedar Creek. Sometimes it's at
Commanche Strike Trace up in Curville. They move it around
the area, so you fill that out, you go play
and they have five or six people out of maybe
two hundred that are qualifying for that that advance to
the next stage, which is the thirty six hole qualifier
two to four weeks before the tournament, and so you
(05:57):
play thirty six holes in one day to see if
you can be amongst those who get in. And depending
on the site and how many people are at each site,
there's a number of players that get the chance to
fill out that one hundred and fifty six man field.
One of them is Johnny Keiefer from San Antonio. Johnny
Keefer was in a seven man playoff and he was
(06:18):
the one that made the first birdie and he got
in and that was after the sexual qualifying a few
weeks ago another one, and so we want Johnny to
do well. Johnny's trying to make it out there on
the PGA Tour and taught by Brian Gathryde who's up
at River Crossing teaching golf, and Brian's been one of
(06:40):
the top teachers in the country and in the San
Antonio area for thirty plus years. So we hope that
Johnny does well. But there's also this story about a
guy that is a full time dentist. He lives in Indiana,
not too far away from Pittsburgh, and his name is
Matt Voight. And he's going to be the first guy
to tee off tomorrow in the US Open. And he
(07:01):
qualified as as an amateur to get into the event.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
So you're telling me you have a chance. He has
no chance. You have a chance.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
I don't. I have no chance.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
First of all, I'm not going to play thirty six
holes in a day without a golf cart ever again.
Uh and number two, I don't have a zero point
eight andicap, no matter how how will you slice it?
Speaker 4 (07:22):
I don't know, man.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
You know, after playing, after playing Scotland anything after that, everything.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Looks my seventy four at Mirfield would not even make
the cut at a US Open qualifier.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
I mean he's not close.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
I doubt that, not, not, not from the tea box
that I would normally play compared to the tea box
that you have to play for this.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Here's the funny thing, people is to talk about it
all the time. Andy has slowly he's been like I
love you for this. He's been like a tick in
a leach, just just slowly but surely burrowing his way
into me to watch golf. I'm sitting here watching Golf
Channel earlier and we're they're they're talking about Rory and
(08:06):
they're you know, we were sitting here like, man, Rory
is just still on cloud nine, and the golf commentators
is like, Rory is the most is the most unpredictable
guy right now, because here we were a couple of
weeks ago talking about he won the green jacket, he
won the Masters, and now we're talking about him possibly
not even making the cut.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah, I got a thought on that because I want
to I want to get to that in the next segment.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
We'll do it coming up on the ticket
