Speaker 1 (00:00):
A skin show ninety one point one the Eagle. This
segment right here is brought to you by Rollertown beer Works.
That's the brewery in Frisco, Texas, right there on Main
Street by the Silos and FC Dallas' Toyota Stadium, and
Ben and I are partners and that bad Boy. We're
so proud of it. Fresh local beer, cocktails, great food,
and we do have fun shows like this weekend. We

(00:21):
have Fleetwood X, the Ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute band. They're
playing Friday night and then on Saturday, Y two K band.
It's the ultimate nineties and two thousand's tribute. Lots of fun,
great music, great energy, and great vibes. We have a
big giant lawn and it's supposed to rain Thursday, but
after that the great weather comes back. So spend some

(00:42):
time this weekend with the Rollertown beer Works. Also a
great place to watch the games. But right now it's
time for this.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
It's time.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
I've got a tractor, a load of stories about food.
Huge tractor.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Here you go. Yeah, it's excited pulling in some stories. Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Are you guys familiar with the steakhouse chain known as Sizzler,
The old Sizzler, the old Sizzler.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Oh yeah, that's uh. It is treated me poorly in
the past.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Sizzler, the one that was at Spring Valley in seventy five,
remember that?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Was that not Steak and Al? Was that Steak and Ale?
Maybe I'm maybe confusing the well, no, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
You're right Steak and Al was off of LBJ near
seventy five.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I think you're right. I think there was a Sizzler
over there.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
The Sizzler definitely feels old timey and feels like something
that wasn't from around here. But it was always mentioned
in movies and stuff. What movies I mean. It was
definitely mentioned in Happy Gilmore okay, where the guy that
shooter McGavin pays to go heckel uh Happy Gilmore and
then he wants to hang out with him afterwards though,

(01:55):
and shooters like just go away, and she did heckle
Happy Gilmour ruin him is a go to the Sizzler sometime.
And if I just looked up their locations and they're
pretty much all western United States, a lot of California,
that would make sense in Texas. Nothing in Texas now,
But I don't know if there was in the past.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
There was in the past, there used to be a
Sizzler in town. There had to have been.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, And I just you know, sometimes you just perk
up when you see a headline. I saw a headline
that was beloved steakhouse chain is making a comeback. So
the Sizzler is making a comeback, guys, I believe it.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
And because like what Texas Roadhouse has done, There's always
been inexpensive steak joints like Steak and Ale, like Sizzler,
like that, and Texas Roadhouse has cornered that market. I mean,
they crush, they do so freaking well, and those are
inexpensive steaks compared to like a nice steakhouse. There is
a marketplace there, especially when the economy is struggling, I think.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
And I'm also trying to remember if Sizzler is one
of those that has the old school salad bar, the
ones from the seventies and the eighties and the early
nine days nineties. They used to have salad bars that
you would walk up to the pizza huts and if
you were a kid, you would put one hundred crewtons
on your plate.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
You don't go to the salad bar. Actually, you know,
I would. I was always excited to load up on creutons.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
So the Sizzlers very hung Chief growth officer says that
they're seeing sales have been up forty seven percent in
the last year.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Wow, good for them.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
A couple locations saw cells lift one hundred percent. They're
doing renovations to make it look a little bit nicer.
So Sizzler's back, and I just want to know, can
we get a Sizzler. We'll just put another spot up.
It takes three days to put a restaurant up. We've
learned this across the street from our studio in Addison.
They put up at Portillos and literally under a week

(03:50):
without any warning.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
You know what, even New.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Year's construction going on.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
It was insane, full service. The drive throughs packed, and
it's on the edge. It's right by the road, like
it's not even tucked back into the parking lot, Like,
how did that happen?

Speaker 4 (04:03):
You know what's going on in that same parking lot
is Dick's Sporting Goods move across the street, like on
the other side of the toll way. No, same side
of the toll Okay, yes, And it's just a whole
new concept for them.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Have you seen it?

Speaker 3 (04:17):
I have, but I haven't. I don't understand what's going on.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
But it's a bigger Dix. Okay, it's a bigger Dicks,
because what are they calling it, Ben, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
It's like the I think it's like the Dick's experience,
like the Dick's Sporting experience or the dis thing.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
I think there's like rock fall fall there.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I got Dick's House of Sport and there's a rock
hard wall right, Oh yeah, I think so. I think
it's climbing on top of.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
On the sign of the old one, which is literally
right across the street. It just says a big sign
that says going, going, gone, yeah, but it's not pointing
no at the one to go to.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
It's very frustrating. I don't understand what's happening.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Let's do a field trip over there, because I'm confused
by what y'all are explaining with this Dick situation.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
I think there must be it must be all experiential,
like rock walls and pickleball courts and basketball courts in there.
They're trying to make let you go try on the clothes, yeah,
go being in it.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
I guess I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Well, building out of like because they always focused on golf,
you can we have the simulator and then on every
Dick's Sporting gets has too big of a golf section, honestly.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Like so now it's like, well, let's do that for
all the other sports. You can batting cage. Maybe I
don't know what's over we need to go in there.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
So there's Dick simulators. Yeah, apparently that's cool.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Apparently moving on, KFC is getting ready for Thanksgiving. They're
launching something that has twenty five dollars fried chicken bundle
with sides in a flight of gravy. They have gravy flights.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Let's go that is that is.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
A restaurant that could not decide on which gravy was best. Yeah,
you gotta flight. It's a chef inspired are we have
a new one? We had two finalists for our new gravy.
We couldn't decide which one is better. And then we
don't want to piss off everyone who loves our old gravy.
Let's just have a flight. Okay, So do they consider
Aujo a gravy? No, Classic white and peppercorn.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
So there's only two three Classic white, white, Classic brown yeah, gotcha.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yeah, okay, I think three constitutes a flight. Yeah it does.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Oh, they've also got a brand new Southwest Cheddar gravy
you can try as well, So maybe you give them
hell behind when you're going through to drive through, you're like, uh, okay,
I want the gravy flight. Okay, well what shoe ones
do you want?

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Well?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
What kinds do you have? Again?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
And everyone's honking behind you. You're now have your back
and forth. People have to hate flights. I love that
y'all do flights at Rollertown. I absolutely love it. But
I know it can't be anyone's favorite thing to go make.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, it's a beating is uh?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
So this really does call in the question the difference
in gravy, and so because I don't know that you
can have more than two gravies.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
I mean, that's why I was so intrigued. And then
also that third one of Cheddar one fourth one Southwest
Cheddar gravy.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Is that not caeso?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (07:12):
It's the gravy sounds like a soup. Yeah, it's the gravy.
Once they're frying the cheese. It's the gravy that drips
off the cheese like what are we describing here?

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Do you think a well, I don't know, and I
didn't see a picture of it. But do you just
think a all flight restaurant would work? I mean, it's
a concept that I'm not sure has been.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Tried where it's just every single you just get a
little samples of everything, as opposed to like a full thing.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
I would think that the all appetizer restaurant should Yes.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
The all appetizer restaurant would be incredible. The Triple Dipper,
that's that's tapis, that's what tapas is. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah, and sports bars really yeah. But I just think
that's something that could work all flights, the flights I'm
trying stuff. A lot of people want to try new stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Do you guys know what a QSR is? Like, what's
the QSR on this quality service robot? Do I know
what that is?

Speaker 3 (08:04):
I immediately thought QR code.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
That's what I was thinking. But what is a QSR
quality service robot?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Okay, okay, here, that's not it, but it's a good guess.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
I'm very proud of that guess. Quality sex robot? Okay too,
what's QSR?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Any other guesses?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
No?

Speaker 3 (08:20):
No, it is a quick service restaurant which is different
though or the same as a fast food restaurant.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
No, I think that.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I think a fast food restaurant has to drive through,
like Chipotle is a QSR.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
So I learned this morning that QSR restaurant, though, is
something that can be a little bit of both. It
can be order at the counter, drive through a kiosk,
payment is made before the food is served. So they
have this food you know thing, and they had like
ten thousand people take a survey on it food website, big,

(08:58):
big publication, ten thousand people. What are the top qs
rs in the nation quick service restaurants? Chip Yeah, not
in the top five, but that would that would allow it,
and that gets us through the loophole we always fall
into when we do this with fast food.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
You're gonna be surprised.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
What number one is?

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Roses Qdova.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Thank you for the quizdom shout out, but no, not Kdova,
not Roses, Taco Cabana.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
No Roses should be up there, dude.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Number five is Chick fil A, number four, Canes, number
three in an out Burger, number two Quick Trip, and
number one.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
BUCkies.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
So it's three fast food restaurants and two gas stations.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
The number one quick service restaurant in the world is BUCkies.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
I go there and sit down and eat all the
time with my family. Taste sit down, yeah, no, we
go to the counter behind the person that's buying their
lottery ticket, and then we place our food order and
go sit down.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
We go eat in the bathroom just because it's cleaner
there than most restaurants.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
And have you ever gone in there and there's a
whole family just eating right there? Is the best place
to go if you really need to see it. The
only reason that quick Trip is number two is because
quick is in the name.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Yes, yeah, people saw that. Oh pretty great though, because
quick service. Think about the quick service though. I want
a pizza or a sandwich or a taketo that's quick service.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Yeah, taste and go.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
I mean, yes, I get it. I mean i've I
was going to invest my money in something it would
be quick Trip.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
You know it.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Right, Let's let's hold everybody, it's time to eat. Let's
all meet it BUCkies and Melissa, the whole show is
on the way. We'll meet you guys out there. I'll
never forget the time that KT wandered up to the
counter there at Quick Trip. He ordered some lotto it gets.
He had a couple of zag nuts his hand. He
looked the lady in the eye and.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
He said, did you know that butterflies they studied them
across the Atlantic Ocean only took eight days.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
That was a fun fact. Christina.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
You gotta stick around, play some music till ten o'clock.
All right, hang with the homie right here on the eagle.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
There you going. Well, so I'm gonna get some cheeks
after this horse power joint

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
