How long hang out with my friend walking on the radio.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Boys kame and talking on the radio.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
It's time to to just walk.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Ah baby wingo, Kati, Christine up in seeing all up
on radio.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Bye, Yes, Hello, and welcome everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
It's the world famous Ben and Skin Show on a Tuesday.
Ben Rogers, Jeff skin Wade, Kevin, Kat Turner and Christina
A little baby corn bread ray All hands on deck
here on a Tuesday, On a Cowboy Tuesday. Cowboys win
Monday Night Football last night, thirty three to sixteen over
the Raiders. I'm sure we will get into that quite
a bit throughout this presentation. I just, man, I think
(00:51):
the NFL is just there's so much great parody in
this league, and it's like almost any game as a
coin flip. You could look at the Raiders and say
the Raiders suck, and you could style point this win.
But I think a win is a win, especially for
the Cowboys when they've struggled as badly as they have,
especially on one side of the ball, particularly with their defense.
(01:12):
So not gonna style point this, I'm just gonna celebrate it.
This is awesome and the Cowboys are now just barely
in the hunt enough to be in the hunt to
where all the NFL shows, all the sports talk shows
when they lay out the standings and who's alive and
who's not, the Cowboys will probably be the last team
listed that is still alive, and so Jerry Jones gets
(01:34):
his wish. The Cowboys will still be in the conversation.
All the sports talk shows out there in the world
will get their whisk because they get to include the
Dallas Cowboys and all of that chatter at least for
another week. Cowboys play the Super Bowl Champs on Sunday
and they're eight and two, and if they win that game,
then man, we're going to be riding extremely high and did.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Fun to be in the hunt under five hundred no November,
I mean, that's that's when it's cooking, baby. It's just
you know, they are technically in the hunt. The problem
is that so many of the wild card teams have
already beat them, so you're gonna have to leapfrog them.
You got to get a two game advantage on them
(02:16):
basically no ties, so that makes it hard. But to
Ben's point, think about the way this team is gonna
feel about himself if it beats Philly and they are
quote unquote getting healthier and the idea of reinforcements and
what it could mean. And it's always a disadvantage for
(02:37):
the other team to have to fly to your building
on Thanksgiving. You've always got the advantage and then you
always have yo. If we take care of business this week,
we got ten days off before we have to see
another opponents. That is tech shram genius right there, and
they are still bearing the fruits of that forty years later.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
I think they have.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
I think the NFL screwed them on that one, though, Right,
what do you mean I think after Thanksgiving? I think
that it's a Thursday night game against the Lions.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Oh so it's more than ten. Oh it's Oh so
it's a week.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
So they have like three games in like thirteen days. Oh,
I didn't realize that. So you've got Philly at home,
they're eight and two. Then you've got the Chiefs at
home for Thanksgiving obviously and they're five and five.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Then you're at Detroit they're six and four. Minnesota is
struggling a little bit there, four and six. Then you
got the Chargers who are seven and four, and that's
your next five. That's the Gauntlet. After that, you finish
at Washington and at New York against the Giants. Those
teams are three and eight and two and nine, respectfully, respectively.
So you would think that they should be able to
(03:46):
win those two games if they're still live and fighting
for their lives. And so it all starts with this
game against Philly, but this five game stretch will decide
what if they're going to the postseason.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Chargers just got smoked thirty five to six. Minnesota's quarterback
J J. McCarthy is so bad the fans are booing him.
So we'll see what's going on there. I think last
night they're like just like, look in at what happened
and what they've been through over the last two weeks. Trades,
new people in the building, a player died, Like pretty
good night for Brian Schottenheimer. And I think the easy
(04:18):
thing to say is, well, if you're going through some adversity,
the Raiders on your schedule is a good thing. Well, yeah,
everyone plays someone, right, so it doesn't really matter. Can
I play something just real quick? Yeah, it's the locker
room right after the game. Shottenheimer gets a little choked
up for a minute, but it tells me that I
really like him more than the last two coaches we've
had here.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I just know that much about him.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Hey listen, hey, before before we do all the celebration stuff.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
So proud of you guys. Man, Amen, tough couple of weeks.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Oh, here we go. I'm back. I'm good, I'm back,
I'm back.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
All right, here we go.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
That get just out City just touched down TV that
got touched on the Floe or Keith.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
And the ball was deflected by.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
So keep going through all the players, and I immediately thought, man,
what if NBA.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
Did that after each game? What's that every stat? Luca
had a dunk, Yeah, then he had a three pointer, yeah.
Then he had an assist, Yeah, then he had another assist.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
We just take a shower and get on the plane.
We really need to get going.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
I just noticed jayon Hardy's plus minus most got some time.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
You know what was great.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
There's a lot of things that are great, but Dak
throwing a touchdown or you know how many different dudes
had touchdowns four or five? I mean spreading it around
and the other thing you were talking about with Shoddy one.
If you do feel like you're losing it. I think
if you turn into barking country guy, you can pull
out of the ditch.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
He did that with his voice, you know, he kind
of wit shot.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Yeah, but like kind of go to loud, barking country guy,
and you can pull out of any emotional moment. But
the other thing that you're talking about about liking that guy.
When they cut, I don't know if y'all saw this,
but they cut to after the game one of his
next players, Lockett, wanted to take pictures with him. Yeah,
wanted to do selfies. And I was looking at that going.
That says a lot about how much players liked Tyler Lockett,
(06:23):
who's rumored to be a virgin.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Really yeah, uh rumor.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
It wasn't the thing a long time.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I don't know if he ever got married and went
ahead and knocked it out.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
But so the question is can they fix their defense.
Their offense is fine. Their offense is quite possibly the best.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
In the league. It's definitely top five.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
So can you fix the defense which has been bottom three,
bottom five in the entire league. And you could look
at it and you could say, okay, uh, they just
got all these reinforcements we talked about the six guys,
the six new bodies, Quinn Williams, Logan Wilson.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
They've traded for both those guys.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Marvion overshown back from injury, Chavon Revel Junior, their draft
pick who they drafted. He was hurt, That's why they
got him in the third round.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
He's back. He looked pretty good.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
That's the first time he's played, obviously, and then you
got both your safeties Wilson and Hooker back, so you
could look at it and say, Okay, they got a
bunch of new bodies. They're getting healthy, and they have
some reinforcements as your Rocky's getting better and better every
single week with more playing time and experience. Clowney settling in,
looking pretty good. Kaylin Carson is coming on nicely. I
(07:32):
still don't understand what happened to Trayvon Diggs. It's still
such a weird thing. Darn Bland bounced back from a
bad game. He looked much better. So you could squint
and look at it and say, okay, okay, maybe could
they be a top eighteen defense the rest of the way,
even top fifteen, top twenty defense if they are. Their
(07:53):
offense is good enough that man, they could rattle off
a bunch of wins here. They could go five and
two or six and one.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah, I think for them, the hope is to be
opportunistic with turnovers and the offense can't turn the ball over.
We had a good stretch earlier in the year where
we were not turning the ball over, and then we
went back to old ways and we were like turnovers
and penalties. Let's be that team. They did have the
early fumble last night, but the Raiders are not very good,
(08:20):
and man, it would have been. There's always so much
that informs the end of a game. At the end
of the first half, and as the Raiders were going down,
they were going to get the ball back, but that
interception led to another Cowboys touchdown, and then it put
the game out of reach. The Raiders are right there,
they have an unfortunate interception on a tipped ball, and
(08:44):
if that doesn't happen, you know, it becomes a closer
game and then you can't make the mistakes. But when
you build up a twenty four to six lead, you
have so much margin for error. At that point you
can play a different style of football. And that's what
earlier in the year, the Cowboys were not playing from behind,
and then they had about a three or four week
stretch where they were and they got their asses handed
to him.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Early in the game was fourth and three, and Troy
and Joe kind of have a running bit where they
just kind of make fun of analytics, like and it's
more of like almost making fun of Troy for like
not being like I don't know about that, but they
have the little thing on ESPN says that our analytics
models his go for it and fourth and three, they
kicked the field goal, and then Troy mentioned that Ryan
(09:25):
Schottenheimer told him that he's on the conservative side of
the coaches. There's a play where it was ten to
six and the Cowboys are driving and Dak had to
check it down his third and didn't check it down
to Hunter Lipkey and he got nine yards. It is
fourth and one and they end up going for it,
and they should have on the six yard line.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Of course, you go for it there. Troy didn't want
to go for it.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
And Troy was kind of thinking about, well, I said
earlier about taking the points right here, and he's not listening.
He said he's a shot. He talked about his dad
and his ear told him take the points or whatever,
and he's like, well, he's not listening to his dad
right now. And they go for it on fourth and one.
Jack Ferguson walks to the end zone and turn and
they throw to him because everyone on the field is
thinking about Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Dude that man. I'll tell you what, why don't we
carry this over because I do want to. I'm excited
about the Cowboys. I am excited about the way that
they played. There is some hope. But there's something from
last night's game that maybe takes away from that. We'll
tell you what that is next right here on the
Ben and Skin Show ninety one point one. It's the
Ben and Skin Show ninety seven point one. The Eagle
(10:27):
Look all week long. We have bad Omens tickets. They're
coming to the American Airlines Center and you can have
your chance to win those tickets. You need the iHeart app.
There's a talkback feature where you leave your name, your
phone number, and your email address and you will have
a chance to win those tickets. All right, we're talking
Dallas Cowboys football.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
So then there was a play towards the end of
the first half. It was touchdown play for George Pickens,
and he ran a dig route and then he went
right back to the outside and he got all the
way and ran down the sideline, cut back again and
went into the end zone. You remember the play I'm
talking about. Yeah, all right. I don't know how many
times you watched that or saw it. It was striking
(11:10):
as to how many people were on the field in
Raiders jersey that weren't trying to tackle the player, including
the original guy that got torched. So keep in mind
he got burned and then he started running after Pickens,
and Pickens cut back again. How can the man in
pursuit that got torched get beat again on a cutback
(11:33):
when he's behind him unless he had zero interest in
actually touching the player. So, while I'm very excited about
things that I saw yesterday and you kind of start
thinking about, all right, gets these teams, maybe these things work,
that was a Raiders team that had absolutely zero interest
in playing football.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, you know, they really only have two good players
on their team, right, Crosby and Genty. Outside of that,
I don't think they really have any other good players.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Which his name Brockers is good. Band did good job
on him yesterday.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Drum Blaane was really good after two weeks on Monday
Night football getting his ash shown to everybody, honestly, like
that was a really big rebound game for him. The
other thing I'd say is very interesting to me just
going forward thinking about contracts and where we're going with
George Pickens. Max Crosby sat there and was like, I
don't know, don't even entertain trading me. I don't want
to be traded, and then to play for that team
(12:30):
that doesn't seem to care. Miles Garrett, who has fifteen
sacks already, all right, he's going to probably set the
record right, was like, I don't want to be in Cleveland.
And then they gave him the highest paid contract in
NFL history at the time.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Took it.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Okay, Yeah, I'm good. And now after the end of
each game he's sitting at the end of the bench
by himself, and I saw des Bryant had a crazy tweet,
but it was like, hey, George, just remember there's more
things to think about them being the highest paid wide
receiver blah blah blah blah, and then the tweet spun
out of control. Into nothing about George Pickens and the Cowboys.
(13:04):
But it just made me think, like that's the type
of thing that they will need from someone. George Pickins,
I don't can you can you like get paid like
the best number two U Pro Football Talk's already putting
out stuff. The Cowboys are gonna have to make a
decision between George Pickens and Cedee Lamb. And I'm like,
we don't need to start this today. Ceedee Lamb's contract
is not movable right now, Like we don't need to
(13:27):
start having that conversation. But this George Pickens thing because
you didn't trade him at the trade deadline, can go
in a number of different directions. And my point is
I don't trust the Cowboys to handle it properly.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
That's fair, And I you know, I think he's probably
not looking at it this way, but and he was
dominant while Ceedee Lamb was out, but he's probably helping
him that CD's on the other side. Yeah, right, this
the tweet you're talking about from des Bryan, I had
it pulled up, says George Pickens. I want you to
understand that whenever it's time to negotiate your new contract,
your legacy will be worth more than being the highest
(14:01):
paid wide receiver if you stayed with the Cowboys. Now,
think about that. That's something des Bryant would have never
followed himself. Now, like he's staying with the Cowboys for
your legacy, for your brand, and I love that he does.
Is such a Cowboy fan. He's trying to sell him.
Then here's where it gets weird. He says, there's a
(14:21):
lot more to the thought process. But think about it.
If I were Jerry, I would respectfully go in a
different direction than D. C. Eberflus, not because he's a
bad coach. I would offer Al Harris the DC job
and let him find his defensive support.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
You have to be the best at what's current.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I've watched great teams and been a part of great
teams the Cowboys have had over the years. Also, you
have to keep the roster young and hungry. I played
with guys who were past their due date and didn't
love the game.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Hey Dad, who are those guys?
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Yeah said respect for respectfully, A lot of these guys quit. Man,
I I just don't. I mean, I think this is
the same for all sports, but more so football than anything.
Trying to get some guy to take less money when
you can just cut his Assnar's one hundred percent injury
(15:17):
rate and they have high rates of head injuries. I'm sorry,
there's that whole selling someone on being a part of
some team's legacy. There's a very few group of people
on planet Earth that are wired that way, and most
of them had joined the military like that is. I
don't think any of that talk resonates. Hey, man, you're
(15:40):
probably not gonna be able to walk in your forties
and get a head injury. But man, show your allegiance
to Jerry, who's slumped over in his chair right now.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
We're talking about him having claw hand. Yeah what was that, Christina?
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Oh that was right at the beginning with the national
anthem and you've got a little claw hand.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
They have been a tribute to fritzwan Eric uh I hope.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
So that is the most slumped over I've ever seen him.
His shirt collar was above his ear. He was like
laying down in the chair.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
He was laying down.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
And then when Charlotte put that blankey on him, I
was like, we're finally staying his age.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Lord, All right, there you have it.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
We'll get back into the Cowboys all throughout today's shows.
It's an exciting Tuesday when the Cowboys went on Monday
Night Football all Right?
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Coming up next.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Kat wants to know why women don't like to podcast.
We'll do that next
