Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Brian Munt Show and thank you for listening.
It's time for today's top three takeaways. Helpful, useful, repeatable.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, American apples and.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
It's not just Florida calusome peak heat.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
My top three takeaways for you as we get going
today on this Thursday. My top one is if you
raise it, they will come. If you raise it, they
will come. What the heck am I talking about. Well,
it's related to what went down at the White House
in the Oval Office yesterday.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yet apples.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Tim Cook that joined President Trump and had this to say.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm glad to be here with you today, and I'm
very proud to say that today we're committing an additional
one hundred billion to the United States, bringing our total
US investment to six hundred billion over the next four years.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
All right, So yeah, six hundred billion. I'm going to
take my five hundred billion and raise it by another
one hundred billion, And so that's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
If you raise it, they will come.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
My trivia question for you as we get started today,
what percentage of your typical apple product is made in
the USA? And by the way, a lot of this
is convoluted because you have parts coming from different places,
they can be assembled in different locations. So if you

(01:29):
take a look at the entire Apple universe of products,
you grab your phone, like, what what percentage is made
in the USA?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Joel's just giving me this.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Because I can. I change my answer from I.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Changed my answer, but your original answer I think might
be representative of what people might think.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Yeah, I went with thirty percent.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Thirty percent, okay, So by the time that you consider
the parts, the components, the assembly, the answer is about
five percent. About five percent. Joelda is not like.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
That, not happy with what thinks. We want to throw
my phone out. No, it doesn't, not really.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, two things have become clear with President Trump this week.
Last Friday's Immiration Day two point zero was not the
end of the rising tariff story for countries without US
trade deals in hand, might have just been the beginning
of what's had to happen from here.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
A couple of things.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Today is actually the day the last week's tariff increases
take effect, So last Friday was the deadline, and then
today is the implementation day, so the higher tariffs do
kick in as of midnight last night. The next is
President Trump as it really appeared to be in a
good mood for those who currently lack good standing. Already,

(03:04):
this week he said he intends to raise India's terrorist
rates higher than he had previously announced.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
He said twenty five percent before.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Now he's saying we could go substantially higher because they
continue to increase Russian energy purchases. And by the way,
Russia is a whole other thing right now because Russia
tomorrow is the Russian deadline. Remember how Trump last week
said ten days, ten days, Russia has to end the
war with Ukraine or else whatever is going to be.

(03:34):
And so tomorrow is the tenth day. Friday's the tenth
day in this whole thing.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
He did have.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Glad you did have the Impaler yesterday who indicated that
he was going to be meeting personally with President Trump.
So I mean, we'll see figures to be an interesting
couple of days on that front. But anyway, back to Apple, well,
President Trump has been pressing CEO Tim Cook to ramp
up Apple manufacturing actually since his first turn, which by

(04:00):
the way, didn't net results. Back then, Apple did build
a plant in Texas where it now is symbols the
MacBook pro, so it wasn't for nothing. But anyway, apparently
tariff rates in China and India may speak louder than words.
You know. Earlier this year, when the Chinese trade war
was raging into high gear, Apple ended up moving its

(04:24):
iPhone production to India from China, and I remember thinking
in that, I believe they even said it at the time.
I don't know that's going to be the best strategy here,
just going from one country that's currently in the crossiers
to another. That could be. But anyway, yesterday, with India
now potentially facing higher tarif rates than China, Apple's American

(04:48):
manufacturing program was announced, you might say it was born,
maybe even again. As Cook joined Trump at the Oval
Office on Wednesday, he did pledge what you heard, They're
in additional one hundred billion dollars in investment into American manufacturing.
That does bring the four year total by Apple to
six hundred billion dollars. Now, notably, President Trump has exempted

(05:11):
smartphones and many consumer tech products from reciprocal tariffs up
to this point, so it could just be the threat
of that exemption being taken away, which Trump could do
at any time, and he actually did say as recently
as yesterday chips and other tech products, he could go
to one hundred percent tariffs on. So he is very
much warning that could be coming here because he does

(05:32):
want chip manufacturing take place in the US.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Two.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
So it could be that is doing the trick, or
could be that Tim Cook is finally becoming serious about
Apple returning to its roots. In any event, by the
time apple six hundred billion dollars build out is complete,
they'll still mostly be manufacturing.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Ever, sees, what do.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
You think the percentage after all of this take place
will be for Apple? How much of your average iPhone,
how much of your average iPad, your your MacBook, whatever,
how much of it is likely to be produced in
the United States.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
I'll stick with my original thirty percent.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
It's closer.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
It's good.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
We'd be up to twenty. We would quadruple the American
aspect of your Apple device to about twenty percent.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
So yeah, that's it.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
But it would also create three hundred and thirty six
thousand jobs in the process. My second takeaway for you
today it is not just Florida. Now, before we get
into what I'm going to bring you here about Pennsylvania, first,
a word from what's happening in Texas, this whole redistricting
thing and the Democrats that have fled to try to

(06:50):
avoid it.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Governors in blue states are standing with Democrats. Illinois Governor JB.
Pritzker appearing on the soon to be canceled Late Show
with Stephen Colbert.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Where did they decide to come to the safe haven
of the state of Illinois, where we're going to protect
him and take.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
Care of Governor Greg Abbott has filed a lawsuit to
remove state Representative Jean Wu from office for abandoning his
duties after he fled to Chicago, labeling him the ringleader.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Wu defending his actions.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
This seat belongs to the people of the state of Texas. Okay,
who comes to mind? Old Rick Flair Woo for mister
Wu there, because.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Say what.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
I mean, look, agreed, disagree whatever with the Texas redistrict
team plan. Your argument here is that the seat belongs
to Texas.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
That's why you fled to Chicago.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Maybe there's a maybe there's a town in Chicago or
in Illinois, somewhere near Chicago called Texas. I'll have to
do some geographical studies, Woo.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
The other development there that's kind of interesting is I
wondered if Greg Gabbott, He's always kind of struck me
as being like more bart than bite, not exactly.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
You know, you're your conservative leader.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You compare Abbot, for example, to DeSantis and take a
look at it. When times really get tough, like during
the pandemic, it took a while for Abbot to take
a look what DeSantis was doing and go that's better.
So just on that note, it is notable that he
is doing something here. So wu who is the leader

(08:34):
of this whole thing. He has done what he can
up to this point to try to remove him from office.
So it's like tomorrow we're going to learn more about
whether that takes place. So he's not going after all
fifty one here at the onset, but he is going
after the leader of the pack. But my second takeaway
actually isn't about the Texas redistricting thing. It is about

(08:54):
another state of interest. So each month I bring you
the latest and four voter registration news. And as we've
seen over the years, the best indication of voter intent
is not what happens in political polls and all election years,
those are basically worthless. It is the changes in voter
registration information. You know, the people that actually will be

(09:15):
voting the next time they go to the polls. Off
election year voter patterns have a very strong track record
in demonstrating momentum heading into election cycles, and in Florida
through the first six months of the year, Republicans have
added to their advantage by a net of greater than
one hundred and sixty thousand voters so far this year,
so it has been clear that Florida's right war trend

(09:38):
continues to take place. Meanwhile, the state that has replaced
Florida as the ultimate swing state still showing similar trends
to what Florida looks like basically. Entering twenty twenty, Pennsylvania's
Democrats now hold a voter registration advantage of only fifty

(10:01):
nine thousand voters. To give you an idea, last November,
on election day, Democrats held an advantage of just over
three hundred thousand voters in an election won by Trump.
There So Republicans have never held an advantage in Pennsylvania.
Sound familiar, but that could be about to change, and
if it does, boy could be a whole new political world.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Pennsylvania goes right. My third takeaway for.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
You today peek heap, you're ready for a break from
the brutal summer heat. Joel's case, he just took off
his parka.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
My hoodie that I have to wear in the news room.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
So yeah, yeah, Joel's been sharing the same ac as
Glenn Beck and Glenna likes to keep things cool just
a little and so Joel has been wearing a very
thick hoodie, like a very wind to rise kind of
hoodie here at the best couple of days. But he
just took it off, drawing out in the control room.
So have good news and bad news for you. The
bad news is that if you entered yes, that you're

(11:03):
ready for a break from the brutal summer heat.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I mean, look, you know you're not getting that right.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
What we're statistically in the hottest week of the year
for Southeast Florida. The better news is that it does
actually appear as though we already had our peak heat
for the year.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Give you an idea.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Historically in the Pond Beaches, the hottest day of the
year has been August ninth, So Saturday it's like the
peak of it. You take a look at the high
temp there, you'll see it's only eighty eight right now,
give or take bas upon where you are. The eighth
through the eleventh the hottest few days of the year
in Southeast Florida, producing average daily heights of ninety one.

(11:39):
But as we are set to enter the typical few
hottest days of the year, they are actually going to
be the coolest days that we have had in well
over a month. In fact, you have to go back
to July seventeenth to find the last time that our
high temp for the day was below the average for
that particular date. So that is getting ready to change here,

(11:59):
and a courtesy of some wetter conditions as well. Instead,
it appears that July twenty seventh this year will prove
to have been the hottest day of the year, and
it looks like we hit the peak a bit earlier
than usual.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Now.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
The one thing that of course does not end anytime
soon summer, I mean on the calendar. If you want
to do the meteorological thing, technically, it ends in September.
If you want to do it differently, it'll be around
the twentieth I forget the exact day this year of fall,
but anyway, autumn we'll hit some time later in September.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
But anyway.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
By way of temperature patterns, it is our longest season
of the year. Florida enters it's hot weather phase, meaning
advertise of eighty six or higher on June fifth, and
we don't typically leave that pattern until September thirtieth. So yeah,
I mean, obviously it's like I'd be cool anytime soon
unless you go join Joel in the newsroom. But you
can't take solis one come having.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
Actually warm it up. We get you know, plenty of bodies,
get some body heater on you. Yeah,
