Speaker 1 (00:10):
Yeah, August hurricane history, and if you are familiar with
the Atlantic hurricane season, you know that heading into August,
we're going to be heading into the peak time of
hurricane season. Plenty of good news as we do wade
tomorrow into what is historically the second busiest month of
hurricane season. And due to regular and significance, say herring

(00:32):
dust plumes that have been crossing the Atlantic, what had
been predicted to be a historically active hurricane season this
year has only been average, and actually by way of
what has formed, as weak as it's been, you can
make the case that it's been below average. We've had
three named storms entering August, the same as last year. However,
no hurricanes have formed. By way of comparison, last year,

(00:56):
we already had a Cat five hurricane barrel that eventually
made a landfall. So the combination of light, total activity
and the relative strength, you take a look and we
have the slowest start to hurricane season since two thousand
and nine, so we'll take that. By the way, two
thousand and nine are really the nine year, so I
like Comps two that one sixteen years ago. Since tracking

(01:19):
began in eighteen fifty one, fourteen percent of all tropical
storms that have formed have happened prior to August ten
percent of all hurricanes prior to August. So while a
third of hurricane season is behind us, based on dates
on a calendar today, about ninety percent of actual hurricane

(01:40):
activity does happen in the final four months of hurricane season.
So as we advanced through the month, hopefully free from
the thread of hurricanes, we do begin to enter peak
hurricane season. The absolute peak of hurricane season historically has
been the final two weeks of August and the first
two weeks of September was Timber tenth being the absolute

(02:01):
peak day. And the reason that is not you know,
you have a short peak on the other side of
September tenth. The ramp up to September tenth is a
very big period, and then there's a small window after
that peak time where things start to drop off quite
a bit. By the time you start getting past best
second week in September, things activity slows down considerably. So

(02:24):
for perspective, we have had more tropical storms and hurricanes
in August than in the first seven months of the
year combined. Historically, during the month, we typically average two
point four tropical storms and one point six hurricanes. So
basically what we end up with, you know, a couple

(02:47):
tropical storms in just under two hurricanes. Now, an average
of one storm or hurricane has made landfall in the
US every other year. Let's hope it's that other year
as we head straight into the heart of hurricane season
with our fingers crossed.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
A couple of Florida headlines Boyt Beach commissioner formerly charged
with battery nearly eight months after the incident. Thomas Turkin
accused of grabbing a cell phone belonging to Dominic Vargas,
who was running against him during this year's municipal elections.
Incident occurred at city Hall in January, and Vargas caught
some of it on cell phone video. FDL says there
is probable cause to charge Turkey, who will be in
court on Monday, and the countdown on for NASA's SpaceX

(03:29):
crew eleven, leaving on a six month mission launch to
the International Space Station, and launch is currently set for
twelve o nine pm this afternoon. Brian
