Speaker 1 (00:04):
This is Florida's news that impacts you on the Brian
Mudshall Yeah, Brian London and Joel Malkin with you as
we take a look at news from around the state
and as mentioned in my takeaways, Governor de Santus has
named State Senator Jay Collins to be the state's new
lieutenant governor, replacing Jeanette Nunez, who became the president of

(00:25):
FIU earlier this year. Speaking of state related news, you
have this development on the back of policy by Florida's
Attorney General James Uthmeyer.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Two more people were arrested and charged in July, according
to a report that Florida's Attorney General is required to
file after defying the ruling from a federal judge. Both
men were arrested in Sarazona County in charge in separate
incidents of driving without a valid driver's license and offenses
related to driving under the influence of alcohol. The illegal
entry charges against them were dismissed.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Right so, Heaven forbid, Heaven forbid. The State of Florida
arrests people in the country illegally who are driving illegally
and driving under the influence while in the country. In
the state and inside of that driver's seat illegally. How

(01:21):
dare they do that? Right? That's why this is even
a new story in the national news story of that
you have these so called immigrant rights groups that are
fighting a Smyer on this. I would say they're anti
American activist groups.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Unless you are cool with because evidently they are. These
so called immigration advocates are cool with drunk illegal immigrant.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Drivers on the road. Where's mad on this? By the way,
I'm sure the uh so. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Florida's property insurance industry turned out its best year since
twenty fifteen last year. According to the latest Property Insurance
Stability Report from Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation, twenty twenty
four mark the first year in a decade which property
insurance the industry took in more in premiums than it
paid out in claims.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Pretty remarkable.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
This came amid multiple major hurricanes making landfall in the state,
but against the backdrop of successful reforms passed by the state.
And what that really shows is that the reforms have
passed work and we absolutely have turned the corner in
the crisis. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission set
to meet at eight thirty this morning to hold a
final vote on whether a bear hunt is going to

(02:36):
be allowed this year. A preliminary vote advanced the measure
in May. Florida has not authorized the bear hunt since
twenty fifteen. It'll be sunny in hot highs today in
the low nineties, touch warm at the usual for this day.
Dense layer of Saharan dust passing through the Leeward Islands
and Caribbean Sea today and retwards the Gulf of America.

(02:56):
But tucked in right behind that plume of Sahara and
dust is tropical storm Erin. So as we take a
look at the tropics, Hurricane Center is tracking three disturbances.
You have one in the northwestern Atlantic also a disturbance
in the Caribbean Sea that are unlikely to develop, although
the one in the Caribbean Sea is worth watching a bit.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Tropical storm Erin.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Is expected to develop into the first hurricane of the
season or the next day.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Plus I said tracks across.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
The Southern Atlantic, becoming a major hurricane this weekend. Longer
range models do generally show the system turning north on
the approach to the Caribbean, towards Bermuda. Is worth keeping
an eye on this week. The best news with the
five o'clock update this morning is that you now have
Puerto Rico outside of the Cone. Gas prices they rose

(03:43):
by eight cents per gallon yesterday. The average prize for
your on leaded state ye three to nine per gallon,
and the Bond Beach is your average price three twenty four,
Martin three point thirteen, three to oh eight in Saint Lucie,
and in Indian River County the average three to ten
per gallon
