Speaker 1 (00:04):
This is Florna's news that impacts you on the Brian
Mud Show. Em Ran money in Joe Malkin with you
as we take a look at this story out of
Plantation that is both heroine but also serves as a
reminder for everyone. This is Box seven, Miami reporting.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Forty five year old Travon Gaines charged with two counts
of kidnapping. Police say it was raining that evening a
woman left her car running with her two children in
the back and tried to run inside for just two minutes.
All the time Gaines needed, police say, to take off
with the car.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Polisse A.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Gaines dropped the children off miles away, where the ten
year old holding her infant sister asked for help. After
dumping the stolen car, police a Gaines started using the
mother's debit card using his own name. Cop say he
took a cab to the Hollywood smoke shop, where police
say he's seen on camera charging one hundred and twenty
dollars to the woman's car.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Okay, so be by the grace of God that the
kids are okay here and that it's gonna end up
being all right in the end. But the real lesson
there isn't just about hey, you know, don't leave the
car running with your kids in it. That should be
an obvious takeaway. But the other is just taking things
for granted. There are times where maybe you think, oh,
I'm just going to run in real quick, run out,
and that sometimes it all takes.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
But the bigger thing beyond that.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Most you'll hear about cars being stolen, car break ins
and that kind of thing.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
It's actually kind of a misnomer.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I mean, a break in implies what that somebody's like
breaking out glass or doing something to force their way
into the vehicle. That is rarely the case, most itn't happens.
But actually most car thefts are due to doors being unlocked.
Most stolen vehicles are due to vehicles that are unlocked
and in some cases do have the keys inside the

(01:52):
car if not actually running. And so one of the
things that increasingly happens these days. People get busy, you
got stuff going on, you're on your phone, you're just attracted,
you forget to lock your vehicle. Simply locking your vehicle
will eliminate over half of the kinds.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Of theft that we see related to vehicles. So that's
that's a takeaway there.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
As I mentioned in my takeaways, Pending home sales in
Florida rose nearly ten percent in August, the largest year
of a year gained since last November, the second largest
monthly increase ince twenty twenty one. All property types saw
increase by an interest led by single family homes. A
renewed proposal for redevelopment of Lakeworth Beach called Horizon is
in focus. The cop brands of development proposal, which revises

(02:35):
and elaborates on a proposal first ignored by the City
Commission in January what included Jack Nicholas designed golf course,
a Hyatt hotel, and community pool. The developers have created
a website complete with plans in an FAQ ridelines anticipated
station in Stuart will not be coming anytime soon. Martin
County's request for a forty five million dollar grand from

(02:56):
the federal Federal Railroad Administration, which is central to the
construction proposed station, was not issued as part of the
federal government's fiscal year, which ends next week. Instead, the
county will have to reapply for the grant with the
earliest possible award schedule, delaying construction of the station until
at least twenty twenty eight, afternoon showers thunderstorms possible today,

(03:16):
Highs up for eighties, touch warmer than usual for the state. Then,
plume of Saharan Dusty is tracking through Hispaniola and the Caribbean,
with more significant Saharan dust just behind it, approaching the
Leeward Islands and extending across the Central Atlantic. That continues
to act as a headwind for tropical development and related
as the Hurricanes Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic.

(03:37):
Hurricane Gabrielle tracking ease across the northern mid Atlantic, prompting
hurricane advisories in the Azores. Tropical storm Umberto is the
northeast of the Leeward Islands, expected to develop into a
major hurricane as it approaches the Eastern Atlantic, posing most
likely if it's going to be a threat to any
populated area. Bermuda, a tropical wave crossing where to Rico

(04:00):
and Espaniola today, has an eighty percent chance of developing
as it passes over the Caribbean and is the system
to watch for the Carolinas and so a couple things
about this. The Saharan dust I mentioned, you get these
systems have all been impacted. You didn't see Gabrielle take
off until it got north of where the Saharan dust
layer was. Same thing with umberto the reason that it

(04:23):
didn't develop sooner. The reason it's not becoming stronger sooner
is because it's still dealing with some of the effects
of the Saharan dust. And then the one that we're
talking about that is crossing over towards the Caribbean, same deal.
The reason it's not gaining more steam is you have
a lot of Saharan dust that it's around it, and
once it gets above that, that's when you take a

(04:44):
look at this thing that could really gain some strength.
The good news for us about that, aside from the
fact that the modeling shows that the most likely outcome
is still that it stays off shore, but that if
it does make a landfall, it would be you know,
Carolina kind of the event. The other part of it is,
even from a strength standpoint, if it did develop, you're
talking about something that is not going to be more

(05:07):
than a depression absolute max tropical storm as would pass
to our east because it Gusa Aaron does.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
That's that's problem I going to rein it in.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Until that point, gas price has dropped another penny per
gallon yesterday. Average price four regular unleaded sty three two
in the Palm Beaches three point fifteen. Martin blood Stave
average at two ninety eight, right there at the average
in Saint Lucie at three two, and Indian River County
three oh three per galln all.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Right, it's just real quick, A national headline in a
story that could make Brian Mudd and others hope for
a partial government shutdown. Not to speak for you, the
White House telling federal agencies to prepare for potential mass
firings of Congress fails to pass a funding bill by
September thirty.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
At the Office of End.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
You might be able to speak for me. The Office
of Manage I figured I know you well enough. The
Office of Management and Budget issued a memo yesterday directing
agencies to create reduction enforced plans to find programs that
could face cuts or permanent job losses.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
There you go. I think I love you,
