Speaker 1 (00:05):
From West Palm Beach to Tallahassee.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This is Florida's news that impacts you.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
On the Brian mud Show.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
It is Brian and Joel Malcolm with you. It's Friday,
so I'll do a little indulgence on the sports side.
A tale of two football teams in the state of Florida.
One that's good, one that's not. We'll start with the
one that's not.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Twenty five percent of the NFL eight teams need new
head coaches. The Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel Thursday after
four seasons on the job. McDaniel's teams compiled a record
of thirty five wins and thirty three losses seven to ten.
This season. The Dolphins missed the playoffs each of the
last two years, after McDaniel had led them into the
postseason each of his first two years.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
I did something I don't usually do. Usually I'll only
reference the Dolphins just to get reactions from Joel. Yes,
and Joe'll be the first two minute kind of has
a disproportionate impact on his life. That is still fair, right,
Like it consumes so you don't think it consumes a
disproportioned amount of here.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yes, it doesn't really affect my moods like it did
years ago.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Okay, so you're saying you have recovered from peak. Yeah,
I mean, look, I care I still have. Yeah. I
have known you historically to like in the day to
day be very impacted by whatever is going.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
On there in your opinion of it. Yeah, okay, So
it's not quite at that level now, all right, it's
an entertainment thing for me and I you know.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
All right, Well that's good if you see it viewed
as entertainment, that's progress. So I was. I had this
conversation with Joel yesterday and Rare Candor that a couple
of things. First, I actually think that Tua has gotten
a bad rap. I think while not being a great quarterback,
he still has the potential to be a good quarterback.
And he was a victim of McDaniel in particular, and

(01:51):
the way that McDaniel is a really bad coach in
my opinion. So in the analogy I like to use,
I really think this is instructive and all aspects of life.
You could be an entry level manager at a retail store,
or you could be a head coach to the Miami Dolphins.
Whether you're a coach, whether you're a manager at any level,

(02:11):
you will very quickly be able to spot people that
either are good or bad managers, or have the potential
to be good managers through this one thing. A good
manager or a good coach will take a look at
the people they have that are working for them, playing
for them, and try to find the best aspects of

(02:32):
what it is that they bring to the table, and
then play those people to their strengths. A bad manager,
a bad coach will go, this is the way we
do things here, this is my system. Figure it out,
and in the case of the Dolphins, trying to force
players to perform in a system that might not be

(02:53):
geared to them, rather than going, here's the talent I have,
let me adjust my system to what they do best.
And so for that reason number one, McDaniel being gone
I think is a plus for your Dolphins, Joel. The
other thing is this is really about Ross as much
as it is anything. If he just waited until Thursday
to ax him, that might speak to incompetence. If the

(03:15):
next coach is not Hardbaugh, I think this means that
Harbaugh's coming, John Horrbaugh's coming to the Dolphins. And if
that's the case, then this year was a huge success
for your team, Joel, because McDaniel not a good coach.
Harbaugh at least one of the two or three best
in the NFL over the past twenty years.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
I'm rooting for him. We'll see what happens.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Meanwhile, the team that's good, the University of Miami said
to playing its first college football championship game, following that
to twenty seven win overall miss and the Fiesta Bowl
last night, playing the winner of tonight's Peach Ball between
Oregon and Indiana, and then what will also be like
a de facto home game at hard Rock Stadium as well.
I mean last won the national title in two thousand
and one. CDC's latest flu map shows Florida now has

(03:58):
a very high rate of loose breading across the status.
We've reached what's typically the peak of flu season. Overall
influenza cases have risen by about thirty three percent week
over a week, driven by holiday travel and get togethers.
Martin County reported record use of its Marty bus system
in December, the first full month of free bus service
offered by the County Transportation Program. Those approved by the

(04:19):
county Commission in early November. Ridership rose by thirty five
percent during the month. Marty has five fixed routes that
go across the county, fourteen buses, sixty seven stops. Another
beautiful day to day sunny skies, temps upper seventies. Gas
prices off another two cents per gallon yesterday, near five
year low's average price for regular unloaded two to seventy

(04:40):
three per gallon in the Palm Beaches two eighty eight,
Martin two seventy three, two seventy four in Saint Lucis
and Indian River County two seventy nine a gallon.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
All right, let's go to look at some national headlines.
President Trump turning to oil execs today, hosting them at
the White House as you push us to rebuild Venezuela's
oil industry. The meeting comes, of course, after the US
military captured Venezuelan President now ex President Nicolaus Maduro. The
Supreme Court's ruling on the legality of President Trump's global tariffs,
and Brian, you were talking about this as well, could

(05:10):
come as soon as today. The justices heard the case
in early November. The Court's decision could have implications for
American consumers and businesses. Oregon's governor demanding answers after a
federal shooting in Portland left two people wounded. Governor Tinakotex
says homeland security actions are eroding public trust and guess what,

(05:31):
she's calling for a full, transparent investigation involving Portland police
and local DA. This was another case of somebody trying
to run over an ICE agent allegedly, and at this point,
I guess it was supposedly or reportedly a Trenda Arragua
gang member, So I guess that'll be the next George
Floyd too. Meanwhile, the Minnesota National Guard will help support

(05:54):
local law enforcement following tensions in Minneapolis after an ICE
agent fatally shot a woman, Renee Good on Wednesday. Press
release from Wallace's office as the support will be to
help protect critical infrastructure maintain public safety. In other news,
the world is on fire. Those are your headlines. No
it's not. No, I'm just no, it's not
