It's the info you need to start your day in
the Palm Beaches and the Treasure Coast.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Protecting the Palm Beaches.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Tribute to those who serve and sacrifice and one of
the many stories fell law enforcement in harms way and
also doing heroic things. Fox's Gary Barmgarden cops say.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
The thirty six year old gunman was shot and killed
by a third Fairfax County officer on the scene. The
wounded officers were rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds
to their arms and are expected to recover. Please say,
the gunman slammed on his brakes and became hostile toward officers,
pulled his gun in open fire. That's when the third officer,
(00:54):
who had arrived to back them up, shot the man dead.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
To always say so often as you know part of
this The reason I do this is to pay homage
to those who have literally laid down their lives and
served to their communities. But the other is just the
rest that's out there every day that you know, folks
in law enforcement, they put in that badge, they laid
their families to go to work, never knowing that, hey,
that could be their day that day. And you know,
(01:20):
unfortunately we had made progress in prior years, but not
last year. We saw a significant increase in the line
of duty debts last year and that included in Florida,
and in total, three hundred and forty two officers were
shot in the line of duty, made one hundred and
sixty five heroes that we lost last year, eight in Florida.
(01:41):
This year, the pace has been a bit better, but
still twenty two officers have fallen in the line of duty,
one in Florida, including the most recent loss in Texas.
Deputy Jesse Perez died from injuries to staying during a
traffic stop when he was struck by debris from a
passing vehicle. And as we remember that we've lost, important
to remember the families as well. The average age of
(02:03):
fallen officer forty years old, ten years of service, and
there are twelve whidows and twenty seven children who've lost
a parent. So the weekly reminder to back the badge
and spread the word because the Lord knows that they
need us just as much as we need them.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
