Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Bomb Beaches and the Treasure Coast as we are
protecting the Bomb Beaches. The weekly tribute to pay homage
to those who pay the ultimate price in service, but
also just a service reminder of water. Please do resk
every day they leave their families, go to work, but
on the badge, never knowing what might happen next, just
like this officer in Philly this week.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
The Philadelphia kappho's name has not been made public, was
hidden the stomach under his protective vest as he tried
to break up a fight outside Overbrook High School in
West Philadelphia. The officer was taken into surgery and critical condition.
Commissioner Bethel said, a suspect is in custody.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Fox is Granald Scott there and that happens far too
I mean last year, for example, three hundred and forty
two officers shot in the line of duty. That's basically
one to day it's crazy an led death overall did
ryans by seventeen percent nationwide.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Last year.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
We had five additional losses in Florida, and in total,
we lost one hundred and sixty five heroes in line
of duty last year, eight in Florida. The improved news
is that the pace is much lower so far this year.
The still unfortunate news we've lost twenty five heroes in
the line of duty, one in Florida, including these losses
over the past week. In Ohio, Deputy Larry Henderson was
(01:34):
murdered while directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati. A
driver intentionally targeted Deputy Henderson with his vehicle driving onto
a sidewalk, striking him at a high rate of speed.
A Marine Corps veteran, Larry is survived by a wife
and five children. In Louisiana, Lieutenant Alan Crudor was killed
(01:56):
while serving a search warrant for an attempted murder at
the same gunfire broke out. Alan was struck by what
was believed to be friendly fire. As we remember those
we've lost, important to remember the families that are left
behind as well. The average age of the fallen is
only forty years old with eleven years of service. There
(02:17):
are fifteen widows and thirty seven children who've lost a parent.
So this is the weekly reminder to back the badge
and spread the word because Lord knows they need us
just as much as we need them.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
All Right, good morning from Florida Headlines. We'll start with
the Pombach County Sheriff's Office. Yesterday, they took time to
honor their fallen deputies. Of course, they held their fallen
deputy memorial ceremony yesterday at the Sheriff's office, including the
three deputies lost last November. You may remember Corporal Louis Paiez,
(02:50):
Deputy Sheriff Dan Diaz, and Deputy Sheriff Butch Waller. They
were killed after a driver hit their motor unit along
Southern Boulevard. Meanwhile, in real time, police in Palm Beach
say ten suspected illegal immigrants have been taken into custody
after a boat landing on the beach near Ocean North
Ocean Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue. This happened early this morning,
(03:13):
landing reportedly near the breakers A. Police have not said
where the immigrants are from, but if you see any
suspicious people at the northern end of the island. You
are asked to call Palm each police or nine one one.
The new Pope has ties to Florida. Robert Privos named
Pope yesterday. Poor Charlotte's Lou Prevost is the new Pope's
older brother. He remembers when he thought of Robert as
(03:35):
he called him his stupid little brother, But now couldn't
be prouder. He says. Lou doesn't expect his brother to
make a lot of changes off the bat of One
thing may change is how often the two can talk
to each other. Lou worries he might lose connection with
his brother as the schedule gets a lot busier. Florida
powerlight preparing for the upcoming hurricane season. An FPL spokesperson
says they're hardening the power grid. This is a continuation
(03:57):
of what's been going on for years now. He says.
Many power lines are now to ground, plus those above ground.
The wooden poles replaced with concrete ones, and FPL says
one hundred percent of its transmission lines or either steel
or concrete. Fl held its annual storm drill yesterday after
a couple of recent wild life attacks in Florida, involving
a black bear and gator, both of those fatal. A
(04:19):
bison attack and Yellowstone National Park has happened, and it
involves the Florida Man in the National Park Service as
a forty seven year old Cape Coral Man was in
the Lake Village area when he got too close to
the animal, and at Gordon he suffered only minor injuries.
First time this year a person has reported being injured
by a bison at Yellowstone happened twice last year, once
in twenty twenty three. And an event this weekend to
(04:42):
celebrate manatees and moms on memor on Mother's Day. FPL's
Manatee Lagoons Sunday event is free to attend. It'll include
a free build your own flower bouquet, bar, food vendors,
and an appearance from Manite Lagoon's costume mascot and happens
from eleven to three. Brian
