This is the Brian Mud Show.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
A new vote, a new trade deal, a lot of
news going on, and our White House correspondent John Decker
right in the middle of it yesterday, including getting the
first question of the President following his exiting of that
trade deal with the UK yesterday.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Good morning, John, Hey, good morning to you, Brian.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Happy Friday. It's been another incredibly busy week at the
White House. I'm glad it's Friday, Brian. But you know, look,
I think it was a good day for the President
yesterday with the announcement of this first trade deal with
the UK. The President told me in that first question,
and to answer to that first question that I asked
him yesterday, that more are on the way. He said
three specifically are on the way, and he said those

(01:06):
countries want to have some sort of an event at
the White House, so get ready for that, John.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And that leads me to a little bit of intrigue.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
So a couple of days ago, the President said that
he was going to have an announcement, might be Thursday,
might be Friday, might be Monday, but it would be
about as big as it gets. And I'm guessing it
didn't involve anything that would be nuclear, for example. So
I am thinking trade. Do we have an indication as

(01:36):
to if that UK trade deal was what he was referencing,
or could be there be something maybe even bigger, that
happens before he leaves DC on Monday.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Yeah, that's a great question. I don't know the answer
to that. I don't know if the UK trade deal
was what the President was referencing earlier in the week,
but I agree that I believe whatever he was alluding
to likely had to do with trade. I don't think
you delay an announcement as it relates to the war
in Ukraine or the war between Israel and a Musk

(02:08):
and getting those hostages back to their families. But a
trade deal sometimes takes some time to get the eyes dotted,
teeth crossed, and maybe that's what the President was referring.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
To, you know, John.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
And one of the other interesting takeaways for me, obviously,
the President has long talked about tariffs having a place
in the world, you know, and how much he likes
a word and everything else. The tariffs are remaining in place,
you know, the ten percent he called the floor yesterday,
and there are specific exclusions on tariffs within this deal,
but looks like no matter what happens here, tariffs at

(02:43):
a ten percent level will kind of be the price
of doing business into the United States going forward.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
So there is a permanent shift and policy.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
We are taking a look at whatever these specific deals
may be country by country.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Well, I think that what other countries around the world
were really waiting on is for that first country to
strike a deal, to see what this first deal looks like.
And now they've seen that first deal, what does the
UK trade deal look like? As you just mentioned, Brian,
that ten percent baseline tariffs, the auto tariffs at least
for the UK have been reduced from twenty five percent

(03:21):
to ten percent, and then there's no terraffs as it
relates to steal coming from the UK, and no tariffs
as it relates to airline parts like jet engines coming
from Do you think about how Boeing relies often on
those rolls. Royce engines. There will be no tariffs on
those either, so we'll see you know about We know

(03:43):
that other countries have been talking to the US, India,
South Korea, Japan. This will give them an idea about
what it is that they can and cannot negotiate.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Also, you mentioned Boeing, and that's interesting because there were
three real areas where you could kind of focus wins
for American producers, and that would be agriculture that would
be the steal industry, and then Boeing specifically as the
President's carrying ten billion dollars and Boeing aircraft that'd be

(04:13):
purchased by the UK. So now you begin to see
where there could even be specific corporate winners perhaps in
some of these trade deals as well.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Oh, Boeing certainly needs the help. They've been just battered,
you know, there's stocks been battered, they've been battered as
a company that they could use the help. And this
was a big victory for Boeing as it relates to
the trade deal that the President arranged with the UK.
Negotiated with the UK, and the UK seemed pretty pleased

(04:43):
as well. You know, you heard the Prime Minister Starmer
on that speaker phone. You also heard from the UK
ambassador to the US. They both seem pleased with the
deal they struck with the President, and of.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Course on the Pope, the President please that we had
an American named as Pope. What was the rate around
the White House yesterday with that announcement.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, the President came out to out of the West
Wing entrance after that announcement was made. He said he
was pleased, looks forward to meeting with Pope Leo. And
I think that there's a really just good feeling that
many Americans, particularly those who are Catholic, feel with something

(05:27):
that I thought I'd never see, Brian, an American pope.
I mean, it's pretty remarkable. The kind of American that
I think most of us thought about was someone from
you know, from an archbishop or a cardinal coming from
a certain diocese here in the United States. But you know,
Pope Leo is very worldly, you know. I mean, I
don't think he ticks a lot of boxes, is what

(05:48):
I'm trying to say. Brian, in terms of I think
the reason why the Conclave ultimately decided that he is
the person to carry on the work of Pope Francis.
And obviously this is a good feeling that exists. You
saw it yesterday with the video, the way the crowd
reacted when the Pope came out. I addressed all of

(06:09):
the throngs that came out to see him. It was
just a good feeling all the way around.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
And also not speaking a word of English, which was
likely purposeful as well. John, great update, Thank you so much.
Enjoy your weekend YouTube.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Brian, thanks so much, Bye bye,
