Speaker 1 (00:04):
The news you need to start your day, and the
mom beaches at the Treasure Ghost.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
This is the Brian mud Show.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Been in quite a week, and earlier this week our
White House correspondent John Decker had quite the day, forty
five minutes in the Oval office with the President, twelve
questions that were asked and answered, and even one of
the pens from one of the signing of an executive order.
John joining us now morning, Hey.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Good morning to you. Yeah, quite a week and it's
just been a busy week at the White House, Brian.
You have visits by three world leaders. You had French
President Metcron on Monday. Yesterday it was the UK Prime
Minister Keir Starmer. Today it's President Zelensky of Ukraine. I
can't recall a week like this at the White House
in a very long time. In fact, you know, I've

(00:55):
covered the White House going back to Bill Clinton's first term.
I don't think there's ever been a week like this
at the White House in the thirty years that I've
been covering it.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
What seems, I guess aprobo, because everything has been moving
at as fast off a speed as we've ever seen.
The record executive actions that have been signed. You have
everything that's happening with Doge that's been unprecedented, and now this,
and so as you're talking about Zelenski, obviously this is
going to be closely watched around the world, and we
have the report that, hey, there's going to be a

(01:24):
deal that is struck here today.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, the deal is one that you have to keep
in mind, has nothing at all to do specifically with
a ceasefire or ending the war. It takes two to tango,
and in order to get a ceasefire, which is the
first step to ending the war, you need to get
buy in from Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he has
not in any way agreed to end the conflict. The

(01:49):
deal that's going to be announced today is a mineral
rights deal that the President and his team negotiated with
President Zelensky. And this is something that the President believes
could potentially provide a significant amount of revenue to the
US in some way compensating the US for all of
the military assistance that it has provided to Ukraine over

(02:11):
the course of the past three years.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
It's also consistent with another executive order he signed. They
didn't necessarily gain a lot of attention, but it is.
It was regarding copper and the importance of copper to
the US interest and that you know, you've got Chile
that accounts for ever half of the world's production. We
are kind of beholding to certain sources. We need to
do a better job of diversifying, and so it's kind

(02:33):
of part of a broader theme as well. But yeah,
to your point, I mean, historically, and this has been
a criticism by by many, especially conservatives, that we give
and give and give in other countries, like you know,
Europe they've given money too, sure, not anywhere near as
much as the US, but they also did it as alone,
and so you know, in theory they'll be paid back.
Every time the US we just give stuff away, never

(02:55):
get anything back. Trump saying now we're going to do
something differently here with this this mineral rights deal.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Well, as French President Matcron pointed out, and yesterday it
was the British Prime Minister kir Starmer pointed out, the
money that Europe has provided is not all in the
form of a loan. It's essentially in the form of
brands that will not be repaid back to those countries
that have provided it. That being said, this is something
that the President really wanted to pursue. In fact, he

(03:24):
actually sent some of his team to Ukraine to work
out the details of this deal that will be signed
at the White House today, and of course, beyond that
deal itself, working to find a place that is a
middle ground, some place to bring about the end of

(03:45):
the war is the primary focus of President Zelensky coming
to the White House today. And look, when will the
president I think it's when, not if, When will the
President meet with President Putin? Certainly it's going to happen,
I believe, and within the first year that President trump'son office.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
And John, you know, in line with kind of this conversation,
the President hasn't explicitly said it, but it kind of
is implied that, hey, you know, if we have Americans
on the ground that are involved with you know, the
extraction and distribution of minerals in Ukraine, good chance that
you're not going to have Russia bombing those places. I mean,
that would be good for them. So you know, kind

(04:25):
of this half measure in terms of de escalation of
conflict that just having us here for this is probably
good for your national security.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Well, we certainly know what, and you can't do that obviously,
inserting American personnel into a war zone. You have to
have peace before you can start that process. But I
think that's part of what those talks that happen this
week at the White House. We're all about what does
the peace look like in Ukraine after a peace deal

(04:56):
is reached. And there has already been a commitment from
France from the UK to put their country's boots on
the ground to maintain Ukraine's security. The President has said
time and time again the US will not put American
boots on the ground in Ukraine. It will be a
European effort in that regard.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
And so you know that is that's additional good insight.
And you know, perhaps the implication here with the mineral
rights piece, that this becomes that that first role piece
towards you know, the de escalation with Russia. And so
it'll imagine a lot of news I'll be coming out
later today with all this. You'll be on top of it.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah, absolutely, Brian. A lot of news has already come
out this week, not only with those visits that we
just mentioned, but of course also the President holding his
very first cabinet meeting. That was the meeting in which
Elon Musk attended. That's another first, Brian, I cannot recall
in all the years I've covered the weight Ouse a
private citizen, which is what Elon Musk is, a private

(05:53):
citizen attending a presidential cabinet cabinet meeting, and that's what
we saw happen on Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Our White House correspondents on Decker appreciate it as always
