Speaker 1 (00:05):
Two sides to the story. There's only one side to
the facts. Welcome to the Brian Mud Show and thank
you for listening. As we take a look at November's
hurricane history. The finish line for hurricane season is in sight.
So as we are into the final month of hurricane season,
we've made it this far with a total of thirteen
(00:26):
named storms having formed. That is too fewer than at
the same point a year ago, well below forecasted levels. Additionally,
we're currently on paces to avoid the landfall of a
hurricane within the United States for the first time since
Remember the last time we went a year where there's
no hurricane making landfall of the United States, You'd have
(00:47):
to go back.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
A decade ago. Twenty fifteen was the last year. Now
before discussing what typically happens in November, trivia time, and
this is something that Joel is well versed on over
the U years. Of these six months of hurricane season,
which is the most inactive?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Most inactive would be the first month June?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
You got it. What is the second least active?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
That would be the one we're in November.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
You've got it. And so ranking the six months of
hurricane season by activity, September, of course, is the busiest,
followed by August. Third most busy is October, followed by
July which is fourth, November fifth, and June sixth. And
since hurricane tracking began in the Atlantic in eighteen fifty one,
(01:33):
for everything that's been detected, how much of everything happens
before the month of November. The answer is ninety three percent.
Ninety three percent historically of all tropical storms and hurricanes
that have formed have happened prior to the month of November.
And so when you take a look at what we
typically see during the month, which is again only about
(01:56):
seven percent of what's developed, we average one tropical storm
about every other year, and about one tropical storm that
develops into a hurricane about every three years. So you
might say the wind is at our back as we
like to close out hurricane season and what will be
the most benign in over a decade.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
All right, just before we give you a couple of
Florida headlines, want to give you some breaking news. Former
Vice President Dick Cheney has died at the age of
eighty four. His career in public service began back in
nineteen sixty nine, when he joined the Nixon administration and
announcing his passing. Cheney's family said his death was due
to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. Also,
(02:40):
there are elections on the Treasure Coast today. Indian River
County voters in Vero Beach and fellsmere voting on a
couple of city council seats. Each Fort Pierce voters electing
a new commissioner to fill a seat left vacant by
the resignation of James Taylor, who was arrested last summer
for allegedly sending nude picks to a twelve year old
Illinois girl. Those polls will open at even o'clock this morning.
