Hey, Brian, this is Mike from Stewart.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
I have a question for you. Do you think it's
a good idea if the President would start to focus
on some legal immigration to counteract all the go immigrants
that were deporting and demonstrate that legal immigration works. That
might be a good SoundBite and upset the lives. Love
(01:11):
your show man, Thank.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
You, Yeah, I appreciate the support, Appreciate the note in
the answer.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
To your question, I.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Don't actually think that a focus by President Trump on
legal immigration at this point would be the best strategic
move politically or pragmatically. And I'll explain starting with the
pragmatic aspect of the President's immigration policy. It is rare
for a data walk like me to come across something
that is really eye opening, but that is what happened
(01:41):
recently when breaking down the monthly jobs report. After analyzing
the data last month, I found the most eye opening
immigration related takeaway I'd ever found within the Bureau of
Labor Statistics monthly Jobs report. As I said in my
Top three Takeaways from July eighth, based on government data,
of thirteen point four million jobs added under the Biden administration,
(02:04):
seven point nine million, only seven point nine million went
to native American citizens, while five and a half million
went to foreign born workers of both the legal and
illegal variety, And within the first five months of the
Trump administration went completely the other way, nine hundred and
eighty five thousand jobs net added, with a decline of
(02:27):
seven hundred and thirty five thousand foreign born workers. In
other words, in the real economy, for the average American,
the job market opportunities have been rapidly improving the old
excuse that illegal immigrants do the jobs that Americans won't do.
What the data showed is that illegal immigrants were taking
the jobs that Americans needed. And what's more is that
(02:48):
the delide of seven hundred and thirty five thousand foreign
born workers running well ahead of detention and deportation numbers
from the Interior so far this year. So it also
suggests that the likely self deportation numbers could be huge.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
And that's the key here.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Why when forty one percent of all jobs added during
the Biden administration they were going to immigrants, would we
suddenly see at the cloud of nearly one hundred and
fifty thousand immigrant workers per month during the Trump administration
thus far, While the overall economy has still added nearly
a million jobs, it would almost certainly seem to reflect
(03:27):
a massive shift towards self deportation.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
And that serves two major functions.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
First, the cost for the Trump administration to arrest, detain,
and to deport an illegal immigrant has averaged over seventeen thousand,
one hundred dollars most recently.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
It obviously doesn't cost us anything when they just like,
I'm out of here. Right, they're just gone on their
own accord.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
It's even more efficient than when they make use of
the CBP one home app which comes with the one
thousand dollars bonus for self deporting, and but that we
also pay for the flight to leave. So this is
by far the most efficient way for the Trump administration
to carry out mass deportations when people are just doing
it themselves. What's more is that the deportations obviously not
(04:15):
getting hung up in the courts at that point. Starting
with February, the first full month of the second Trump administration,
how many deportations from the interior per month do you
think have taken place? Joel, You are all over this one.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, and it was just a shot in the dark,
but about fifteen thousand a month.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
And the actual number is paced fourteen thousand, seven hundred,
so right there, it's a really good call. So, yeah,
we for everything Trump has tried to do to get
people that are not here legally outside of the country,
he's only been able to remove fourteen thousand, seven hundred
on average per month. What this means is that during
(04:56):
the same five months, where it's likely seven hundred and
thirty five thousand or more illegal immigrants self deported. Homeland
Security was only able to deport seventy three thousand, five hundred,
or literally only one tenth of the number. So self
deportations look like they're running ten to one actual deportations.
(05:18):
So what's more is that there's likely to be among
a lot more people who choose to self deport going forward.
While on the one hand it can be really frustrating
to see and hear jaded, one sided, just outright false
reporting pertaining to conditions and detainees at Alligator Alcatraz for example,
among others, it actually serves a purpose because the media,
(05:39):
without realizing it, is playing into Trump's hand. You know,
we tend to view these situations from our own perspective
on the outside. However, the worst the media makes the
ice detention situation sound, the less likely illegal immigrants are
to wait around and see if they're going to be
detained next. So it plays that hand and assists that effort.
(06:00):
The Pew Research Center has has been studying that dynamic
since March. Among a category they call immigrants, so these
could be legal or illly legal. That pe just puts
everybody in there. Forty three percent, a record forty three
percent now quote worry a lot or some that they
(06:20):
a family member or a close friend could be deported.
That is a record high sample and it was up
from a previous record of thirty three percent in March.
So in other words, as this reporting is ramped up,
you've seen the concern ramp up as well into the administration.
So that type of sentiment actually helps direct self deportation
(06:41):
decisions into the future because people at that point go, hey,
I want to do this on my own terms, not
you know, go to alligator Alcatraz or whatever. So last
banal Le's there's the politics of this to consider. If
your concern is how this is going to play politically,
that is also backfiring nine Democrats in the media when
they carry on and lie and play the woe is
(07:02):
the illegal immigrant card. Now what the average American hears,
Great Trump is doing what I voted for him to do.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's what they really hear.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
You know. Immigration remains President Trump's top performing issue, with
an average of two percent more Americans improving of his
handling of immigration and the Real Clear Politics average of
polls compared to his overall approof or rating. And that's
something that is likely only to continued toize is more
job opportunities and higher wages are available with fewer illegal
immigrants occupying them. That's in addition to lower housing costs
(07:32):
and more affordable housing options becoming available, and less crime,
which I've also covered too. And so, while it is
true that legal immigration plays an important function in this
country with too many incredible success stories today, but let's
start with the world's richest man and one time Trump fan.
What the Trump administration is doing, led by apparent mass
(07:52):
self deportations, is working, so strategically, it makes sense to
keep the focus where it is as opposed to talking
up legal immigration, which might lead some that might otherwise
self deport go home. Maybe Trump is getting soft on
this issue. Let me stay around and see what happens.
Because many illegal immigrants have believed that the longer they
remained in this country, the more likely they are to
(08:12):
be granted illegal status, just as was the case during
the nineteen eighties when amnesty was granted. So ending that
narrative that is a key to Trump's plan to combat
illegal immigration
