Speaker 2 (00:14):
Have a question or topic you want to have addressed,
just ask. This is the Brian Mud Show. Yeah, so,
I mean questions. It's so confusing these words. What do
they mean? You know, what is a protest? What is
a riot?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Well, Brian, I keep hearing about all these people that
are getting arrested for protesting. I thought that was within
our constitutional rights.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well, it is, Joel, and that's why Trump is a dictator.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
That's why it explained it.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Okay, it's just because Trump is a dictator, that is
why you would have protesters arrested. It's by no means
a riot. Not, by the way. Today's Q name, potentially
the easiest I've ever addressed, is brought to you, as
always by Melissa and Ashes. Check mark collections each day.
Future and listener questions sent by one of these methods.
(01:02):

(01:24):
You see it, it's app it you mail it down
a message right there, maybe for a future Q and A.
Today's note this one at Brian Mud Radio. Why don't
you do a Q and A on what a protest
is and what a riot is? Keep up the good work.
And I saw this yesterday and I mentioned it on air,
and I was like, you know what, maybe I should
do it and enjoy your You're in favor of this.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I thought it was a good idea. I think we
know what it is, and I'm talking to the listener
as well, but I think for us to share it
with people that don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
There's not I want to know well. And also so
just because of the walking contradiction that these leftist politicians are,
especially in California. Take for example, this is Los Angeles
Mayor Karen Bass yesterday.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
That I have declared a local emergency and issued a
curfew for downtown Los Angeles, to stop the vandalism, to
stop the looting.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I thought they were a protest. And by the way,
in other breads, she was going after Trump and talking
about the protest. Why do we need curfews? Why did
we have looting and violence taking place if it's a protest,
(02:46):
And that's just it. These people are talking about both
sides of their mouth. They know exactly what's what, and
they just treat the rest of us like we're stupid.
And so, yeah, we can go ahead and do this.
In the wake of the organized anti ice riots in
Los Angeles that have spread to other cities, seems as
(03:06):
though this conversation might as well be had because if
nothing else, like what Joel is saying, you can take
the story, share it with others in your life who
might refer to what we've seen in LA and other
places as protests. So let's get straight to it. According
to the Oxford Dictionary, and so this is where the
definition is driving a protest. It's a noun. It's a
(03:34):
statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something. Okay.
A statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection is
something okay. So when does something arrive at a riot?
While the definition of a riot is this, it is
a noun, a violent disturbance of peace by a crowd,
(03:59):
a violent disturbance of of the piece by a crowd,
and just for good measure, I went ahead and defined
violence as well, so that there's no room for ambiguity
about what violence is, because you do have some people
are like, whose are violent? Words? You hurt me? You
know that kind of so be ironically the same kind
(04:20):
of people that will call these protests behaving or behavior
involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone
or something. Okay, so violence is behavior involving physical force
intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Well, who's to say what the intent is, Brian. If
you're you know, throwing a chunk of concrete at a cop,
maybe just trying to get their attention.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, so it's not intended to hurt or to damage,
just to get their attention. M Okay, sounds reasonable enough.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
There is probably somebody that would make that usefully on
my dad trying to get your attention.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yes, So the moment that protesters engage in physically destructive behavior,
the moment it turns physical. Basically, it's a riot period
by definition, no ambiguity. Therefore, every outlet, every last one
of them that is referred to what has transpired in
(05:20):
LA and some of these other places now, as well
as protests as opposed to riots, have demonstrably engaged in
false reporting. It's not open to interpretation. There aren't questions
about this. It's black and white and these have been riots.
I'll law all the headlines that I brought you yesterday
in my takeaways, like ABC News saying LA immigration protests
(05:46):
live updates, CBS News Los Angeles anti ice protesters clash
with police, because you can have protesters that clash and
that not be right. NBC News crowds protesting immigration raids, CNN.
Trump seizes on Los Angeles protests and the one that
(06:11):
was credible that I brought you the La Times. LA
officials struggled to curb disgusting vandalism. That's violence in downtown
La bing Goo. And for one for additional contexts pertaining
to the LA riots, I do not know what happened
in LA last night. I mean, for that matter, it
(06:35):
still could be going on at this point or this
is also does not include any destruction in any other places,
just what happened in LA as of this time yesterday.
One park had been destroyed, a minimum of five cars
set on fire, minimum of seven buildings to face by
(06:55):
the one with one with paint saying remove Trump's Head.
A minimum of twelve businesses looted, thirteen law enforcement professionals
suffered injuries, a minimum of ten million dollars in damage,
with some estimates suggesting that number could go to as
high as three hundred million by time by the time
(07:16):
full assessments taking place. And again this was just for
what had taken place by yesterday in LA. Only those
are outcomes that obviously do not occur during protests. As always,
two sciences stories, one side of facts. Those are the facts.
