(00:47):
the way, then you can look for the microphone button.
You see that microphone button, you tap it. You can
leave the message right there, maybe for a future Q
and A. So yeah, today's note reads like this, Brian,
I am not in Florida, but listen to you every
morning on iHeart. Appreciate that we have people in our
lives that we dearly love. They are not legal they
have been here over twenty years, and their children are

(01:09):
like our grandchildren. The oldest born here will be attending
college next year. The youngest, also born here, attending Catholic schools.
My question is, what does all the deportation talk have
to do with folks that have been here a long time?
I understand getting rid of the people that rush the
border during Biden's tenure, one of the people that have

(01:31):
been here working at legitimate businesses and paying taxes for decades.
Your insight is very important in this matter. I hope
you can respond or talk about it on your show.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Thank you. I appreciate your question.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Having broadcasts over the past twenty years in South Florida,
I have heard from many with similar considerations. In fact,
our remember addressing a couple you had a listener's wife
is not legal last fall. I mean, these things do
come up frequently, and it is certainly easier to ubiquitously

(02:08):
say that we should support all illegal immigrants that it
is to consider cases such as your friends on an
individualized basis. So I'm going to address your question from
two directions. I'm going to start with the stated deportation
plan of the Trump administration. The current ICE operations are

(02:30):
what are known as targeted enforcement operations. They are defined
as the planned arrests of known criminal aliens who threaten
national security or public safety. Okay, So the ICE directive
that is out there in the field to the agents
right now is that planned a rest of known criminal
aliens who threaten national security or public safety. So from perspective,

(02:55):
there were one point four million illegal immigrants who went
through a legal process during the Biden administration were court
ordered to be deported, but weren't. President Trump's executive order
addressing this matter is protecting the American people against invasion.
Under the order, the official directive that is to be
carried out is this. So I just gave you what

(03:17):
the field order is rise agents today, but what the
overarching order. So the view of the possible here is this.
It is the policy of the United States to faithfully
execute the immigration laws against all inadmissible and removable aliens,
particularly those aliens who threaten the safety or security of
the American people. Further, it is the policy of the

(03:39):
United States to achieve the total and efficient enforcement of
those laws, including through lawful incentives and detention capabilities.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Okay, So that is the actual directive. Now.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
It is for this reason that it's unlikely that your
friends would be in the cross hears of the Trump
administration's initiative over at least.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
The near term.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
During the first week of detentions and deportations, the only
non targets who were detained and set for deportation those
who lacked legal status and were present with the targets
at the time of the ICE detentions, which certainly seems
like it makes sense. Right if you have people that

(04:24):
are hanging out with criminal illegal immigrants, whether they're on
somebody's list or not, they're not here illegally.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yeah, they definitely should be gone.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Additionally, with the current legal interpretation of birthright citizenship, the
children that you mentioned that are like grandchildren to you,
they are American citizens and therefore would be protected from
deportation concerns, regardless of how broad they may eventually become. Now, well,
that having been established, let's discuss the contextual considerations that

(04:56):
you've asked about, including my perspective on the matter.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You'll often hear me talk of the premise.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
If the premise of anything is false, anything built on
that false premise will fail too, and that is the
way that I've used situations like that of your friends,
and I realized that at risk sounding heartless and breaking
this down, and I assure you that I am not.
But I am a person of principle. And I'll use
two analogies. One that's rooted in law and another. As

(05:25):
you mentioned that one of the children attends Catholic school,
I'm Catholic as well. I'm going to provide a faith
based perspective. If a person successfully violates the law one time,
but is caught and is prosecuted, does it make them
more guilty than a person who violates the law daily

(05:45):
for many years, but who successfully evades authorities? Think about that,
How long should one be able to engage in illegal
behavior before we, as a society, law enforcement included, just decide,
you know, it's okay.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
You've been breaking the law long enough.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, well, we'll just kind of give you a permanent
pass in this one, right. And that's the point here.
If you embrace the false premise the problem will persist.
Breaking the law for an extended period of time does
not at some point make it okay. If anything, the
extended illegal behavior may complicate matters, As the example of

(06:25):
the family that you have described would apply. You know,
if they were nabbed right away when they got over
here and deported, then all these very difficult considerations would
would not apply. As for the faith based perspective, if
you send long enough, there's nowhere in the Bible where

(06:46):
God at some point suggests, well, you know what, you've
been sending that way for a really long time. You
gone against my teachings, my words for a very long time.
So you know what, I guess it's okay now, Yeah,
it doesn't work that way. There's never a time in
which sin is acceptable, and extended periods of sin, especially

(07:07):
when one is aware of the sin, well, that only
makes matters worse in the.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Eyes of God.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
And so my point is, whether it's God's law or
man's law, breaking it for an extended period doesn't make
it okay. You know, over the prior twenty years, your
friends made a series of choices that seemingly have worked
out to their benefit to this point, and it remains
a choice to still continue down the path they've traveled

(07:34):
without seeking a fully legitimate, illegal means of being here.
That's a choice, and with compromised choices, there can be
unfortunate outcomes. You know, the Biden administration was a case
study on the selective interpretation of laws. I don't fault
the Trump administration for express consistency in enforcing laws. Ronald

(07:55):
Reagan didn't make many policy errors in my view. However,
this was one of them. In fact, it is the
one that Reagan really blewed on in my opinion. You know,
President Reagan went along with amnesty, accepting the premise of
the example that you've provided. You know what, these people
are established, they've been here a long time. We're just

(08:17):
going to say, everybody here, you're fine, and now we're
really going to get serious about enforcement going forward. And
all that proved to do was further incentivize people seeking
to unlowlawfully enter the country, because it's set the president
that hey, if we can just get there and if
we can just get ourselves established a bit, we're going
to get amnesty too, and everything's going to be fine.
That's not okay, that's not right. And so the only

(08:40):
way to stop incentivizing illegal behavior is to stop incentivizing
the illegal behavior. You've got to stop rewarding that practice, right.
So I genuinely wish you and you, your friends, they're children. Well,
but I do think that you know, there's there's always

(09:02):
two sides of the stories, one side of facts, and
there you go.
