Speaker 1 (00:00):
Freedom is here to stay. Time for Brian Mudds Top
three takes the center from Florida America's comeback starts right now.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The moderators, the candidates, and the rules of the VP debate.
My top three takeaways as we get ready for tonight's
vice presidential debates. As I always kind of frame these
big debates through these three categories because they each played
their role in how things will end up going. My
top one the moderators. One of the biggest story lines

(00:32):
ahead of any debate is the role that the moderator.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Is going to play.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Now, moderators, as I have always said, they're like referees
and umpires. If we come out of a debate talking
about them, you got a problem. And following the Trump
hers presidential debate, boy did we ever have a big problem, right?
I mean, if you were to objectively take a look
at the two presidential debates, what would you have said
about them that the first one moderated by and hosted

(01:02):
by CNN, pretty objectively done, the second one moderated by
ABC News David Muir he have good hair, and Lindsey Davis, Ah, yeah,
not so much, right, not nothing actually objective about their
situation in the least, they became a big part of

(01:22):
the story, became a major part of the debate. You know.
In the Media Research Center study from July twenty first,
when Kamala Harris entered the race through September sixth, leading
up to that debate, one hundred percent of the coverage
of Kamala Harris had been positive. During the same time,
ninety three percent of the news coverage of Donald Trump
was negative. And boy did they ever moderate the debate

(01:42):
that way, didn't they? It was kind of like that
wasn't smoking mirrors. So it was like, yeah, you know,
the product we put out to you know whatever, people
are are still around to look at us. And I
understand why, David Muir, I mean to the extent that
people still tune in at six o'clock and watch the
evening news, like that's still a thing. But to the
extent that people do I understand, I mean, the hair,

(02:04):
it's a draw so maybe, but see Joel smiling, I
do that three quarters the way for you for Joel
just to see Joel's yeah, he likes David mers here
and the references to it.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I think it's just the thought still like Newsom's hair better.
I just can't. I can't work that in here.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I can't make that work for you, although I do
think it'd be and I don't think you could have
done worse if Newsom had been a debate moderator. Crazy
good point, but anyway, Look they they did. ABC News
moderated the debate like it was a three on one matchup.
You had the moderator's fact checking Trump five times her
in the debate, zero fact checking of Hairs despite her

(02:44):
lobbying multiple whoppers out there. The question is, is Tonight's
VP debate said to potentially be more of the same.
CBS News is the venue. Nora O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan
are the moderators. According to the Media Research study, CBS's
coverage has been eighty four percent positive for Kamala Harrison

(03:05):
her campaign, compared to seventy nine percent negative for Donald
Trump and his campaign. Not exactly objective news coverage being
presented by CBS News, But hey, I mean that's still
better than one hundred and ninety three percent.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Right with ABC.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
So yeah, I mean, look, there's obviously the potential for
tonight's debate to be to take on a similar field
to what we saw during the most recent presidential debate.
And while there are many examples of critically unjust coverage
of the Trump campaign by both O'Donnell and Brennan, maybe
the most instructive was their breaking news coverage of the
first assassination attempt of Donald Trump. This was recent and

(03:44):
they both were there to weigh in. And what was said, again,
this is breaking news coverage, you know that weekend. It
wasn't like, you know, the first day out of their mouths.
But during their breaking news coverage the weekend of the
first assassination attempt, it was stated, he is recovering from
these injuries. Now, this was a traumatic event, no doubt

(04:07):
for him. But I did notice there was no call
for lowering the temperature, condemning all political violence, and really
trying to signal to his supporters as well not to
retaliate or have any kind of escalation here that one
I see a confused look on Joel's face, Right, what huh? Yeah,

(04:30):
the man had just been shot, had come within an
inch of being killed. One of his supporters was murdered,
and the O'Donnell and brennan response was what to effectively
condemn Trump because they didn't think his response was appropriate.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
So yeah, there's the potential for.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
The moderators to factor in a one sided way. Again,
this will be a true test of objectivity if they
have it within them. One thing that is is probably
the case, though it is likely the advance is prepared
for that eventuality that happens, that they become part of
the story. But as I talked about debate moderators and

(05:17):
advance of big debates, I always introduce questions, my questions
for this one. How will the questions themselves be framed?
How will the moderators frame the questions? Will the focus
of the questions beyond the issues that matter to us
or the moderators? You know these days and we saw

(05:39):
this a lot in the ABC debate January sixth, Threat
to democracy and all.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
That kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Right, they get into that, nobody gives a rip about
it except for your godless holes and slanders news media.
So that's always a tell. So will that happen? Three?
Will Tim Walls, let's be confused with Tom some voter
bills they were mailed out of Palm Beach County. But
to Tim Walls, will he be properly pressed on his

(06:08):
lack of public access since becoming Kamala Harris's running mate.
You know, I mean, all the focus is prominently on
Harris for not doing interviews or pressers, that kind of thing.
But did you know that Tim Walls has done exactly
zero interviews since becoming the running mate.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Zero.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
They have not allowed Tim Walls to run out there
and do one. They only allowed him to be the
emotional supporter animal for Harris and the first as she did.
That's the only So will that be brought up? I mean,
Vance is out there like every other day doing interviews,
and will he also be pressed on his ticket's failure
to provide comprehensive policy plans so that Americans may better

(06:46):
understand what the ticket stands for and for Kamala's stated
flip flops and key issues. A fourth question of mine
will will the moderators let the candidates speak during they
are allocated time or will they step in there?

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Will they intervene maybe cut off mics?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
All these kinds of day the way that ABC News did,
So we'll review all those tomorrow. A second takeaway for
you today is the candidates could the younger and lesser
experience politician JD.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Vance.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Can he stand tall on the debate stage in comparison
to a veteran politician and current Minnesota Governor Tim Walls?

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Will JD.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Vance be able to effectively redefine himself to a country
of people who have been conditioned to think that he's
a weirdo who has a particular bug up is but
about cat ladies. Will Vance be able to effectively turn
the tables and paint Tim Walls as the weirdo because

(07:48):
there's plenty of opportunity to be able to do that.
Will Walls be able to credibly come across as the
everyman that he portrays himself to be, or will he
potentially come across and as an incecere politician trying to
fake it? Will Vance be able to effectively paint Harrison

(08:09):
Walls as the leftist radicals that they're voting records suggest
that they both are, with Walls be able to effectively
paint Vans as an out of the mainstream conservative conservative
extremist the way that he has often suggested is the case.
Will Vance be able to effectively combat the questions about

(08:32):
his previous criticisms of Donald Trump as a one time
never Trumper. This is a very this is something you
can pretty much it's money in the bank tonight. You're
going to have the moderators go after Vance with his
own words, the stuff from way back when that he
said about Trump when he was never Trumper. It's an
easy way for moderators to say some really negative things
about Trump without making its saling it's about them. So

(08:54):
Vance is going to have to deal with that. He's
going to have to be ready for it. He's been asked,
you know, many times up to this point, but on
the debate stage, is going to be put in a
position to have to navigate that. Will Vance, a millennial,
be able to come across in a way that connects
with younger voters, a traditional Trump weakness.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
You know, it's interesting JD.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Vance and Tim Walls two very different people at very
different paths to the debate stage and a greater age
separation than Trump and Harris the Bigger Eight. You know,
Harris is trying to make a big deal about her
age and Trumps that you have just around nineteen years
that separate the two of them. You have twenty plus

(09:34):
years to separate Vans and Trump or Vans in no walls,
so there should be quite the contrast in just about
every way that's on display here. Third takeaway today the
rules of the debate. There will be no studio audience.
There will only be pin, paper and water allowed on stage,
No pre written notes allowed on stage, nor will any

(09:54):
sitting be allowed during the course of the ninety minute debate.
That is all consistent with what you saw in to
presidential the debates. There will be commercial breaks, though neither
candidate will be allowed to consult their political teams. And
then there is this one that is the most different
rule from the presidential debates. The candidates microphones may be
muted if the moderators fiel it's necessary. However, they will

(10:16):
otherwise remain hot throughout, so you're going to have hot
mikes the entire time. The candidates will have two minutes
for closing statements, and Vance, like Trump before him, won
the coin toss and opted to go last, so Dvance
will have the last word in what is probably the
last debate of this cycle. So get your popcorn ready
for what's likely to be the last one of these.

(10:38):
Is we are now just five weeks, just five weeks
away from election day,
