Speaker 1 (00:03):
The news you need to start your day, and the
Bomb Beaches, pat the Treasure Coast. This is the Brian
Mud Show, all right, So let's talk about what's best
for your brain. What's best for your brain, Joel, what
do you think is best for your brain?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Probably more sleep than I get.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Okay, it's a good place to go. That would be helpful.
In fact, that's very specific to what we're talking about here.
Do you have trouble sleeping?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I do not have trouble sleeping. I just don't like
to sleep, which is weird.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
But anyway, you're not alone. You're not alone. CDC data
shows an average of thirty seven percent of adults fail
to sleep a minimum of seven hours per day, which
is the recommended level to maintain optimum health, and for
whatever reason, in Florida, our sleep habitory even worse, with
about thirty nine percent of adults failing to sleep enough.

(00:57):
But aside from frequently feeling sluggish and less sharp than
you'd like to feel, what are the implications. Well, a
lot of sleep research has been done every time, A
lot of it has been done in regard to the
body's ability to restore and heal itself. Now, new research
shows the impact prolonged sleep problems can have on your brain.
A new study published in e Biomedicine, a medical journal

(01:20):
at the Land said, shows that your brain and it
may be taking the brunt of your inability to get
a good night's sleep. The study is a big one.
Over twenty seven thousand middle aged and older adults. Found
people who regularly sleep fewer than seven hours a day

(01:40):
had brains they're old, old brain chronologically older than the rage.
Those chronologic uh, those chronically sleep deprived had brains that
age about a year beyond their actual age. Those who
had somewhat sleep deprived brains about seven months older. Also,

(02:02):
the researchers link the accelerated brain aging but the increased
likelihood of cognitive decline, including potentially elevated risk for dementia.
So that is all of the negative stuff and happier
news there's this. They identified five sleep happits that are
consistent with those who have healthy brains, and you don't

(02:23):
have to do all five. You just need to nail
four of these on average sleeping between seven to eight
hours per day. Now, Joe, you think you.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Get there, I definitely don't get to eight. I think
I get more often than not to seven with the nap.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Okay, we'll get to that here in a second. Next
trait being an early riser as opposed to a night
ol and I'll say this much, I don't think in
our case, Joel, that applies.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I think it's so early early riser that did you
do it on by choice?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Yeah, like you know.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Enough, probably six is.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, that's what they consider probably as opposed to what
three point thirty for.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Me, Yes, rare bouts of insomnia, not snoring, and not
feeling the need to sleep during the day. And that's
one that you do have an issue with. So that's
the deal. If you nail four of these five, sleeping
between seven and eight hours a day, being an early

(03:27):
riser as opposed to a night owl, have rare bouts
of insomnia, you don't snore, and you don't feel the
need to sleep during the day. Four of those five,
and you almost certainly will have a healthy brain. Researchers
found that only forty one percent of adults maintain four
of those five characteristics and thus have healthy brains. But
the better news is that, hey, if you fall short

(03:50):
of that, if you can get to four, then you
can improve your brain health.
